2. Heterogeneous Peridynamic Neural Operators: Discover Biotissue Constitutive Law and Microstructure From Digital Image Correlation Measurements

Human tissues are highly organized structures with collagen fiber arrangements varying from point to point. Anisotropy of the tissue arises from the natural orientation of the fibers, resulting in location-dependent anisotropy. Heterogeneity also plays an important role in tissue function. It is therefore critical to discover and understand the distribution of fiber orientations from experimental mechanical measurements such as digital image correlation (DIC) data. To this end, we introduce the Heterogeneous Peridynamic Neural Operator (HeteroPNO) approach for data-driven constitutive modeling of heterogeneous anisotropic materials. Our goal is to learn a nonlocal constitutive law together with the material microstructure, in the form of a heterogeneous fiber orientation field, from load-displacement field measurements. We propose a two-phase learning approach. Firstly, we learn a homogeneous constitutive law in the form of a neural network-based kernel function and a nonlocal bond force, to capture complex homogeneous material responses from data. Then, in the second phase we reinitialize the learnt bond force and the kernel function, and training them together with a fiber orientation field for each material point. Owing to the state-based peridynamic skeleton, our HeteroPNO-learned material models are objective and have the balance of linear and angular momentum guaranteed. Moreover, the effects from heterogeneity and nonlinear constitutive relationship are captured by the kernel function and the bond force respectively, enabling physical interpretability. As a result, our HeteroPNO architecture can learn a constitutive model for a biological tissue with anisotropic heterogeneous response undergoing large deformation regime. Moreover, the framework is capable to provide displacement and stress field predictions for new and unseen loading instances.

It is defined as painful uterine cramping associated with menstruation. Primary dysmenorrhea occurs in the absence of an organic cause, whereas secondary dysmenorrhea is pelvic pain associated with an underlying pelvic pathology. The purpose of this review is to discuss the pathophysiology of dysmenorrhea and provide a discussion of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment options. Prostaglandins play a large role in the pathophysiology of dysmenorrhea by causing myometrial contraction and vasoconstriction. The first-line treatment for dysmenorrhea is with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs due to the inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzymes, thereby blocking prostaglandin formation, as well as hormonal contraception. Other pharmacologic treatment options include Paracetamol, as well as Gonadotrophic Release Hormone Analogs, which are typically used in the treatment for endometriosis. Non-pharmacologic treatments with strong evidence include heat therapy and physical exercise. There are less evidence-based data behind other modalities for treating dysmenorrhea, such as dietary supplements, acupuncture, and transcutaneous nerve stimulation, and these methods should be used in conjunction with first-line therapy after a discussion of risks and benefits. Lastly, for women who fail medical management, surgical options include endometrial ablation, presacral neurectomy, and laparoscopic uterosacral nerve ablation. Further research is needed to measure the socioeconomic burden of dysmenorrhea on the healthcare system and to evaluate the efficacy of treatment combinations, as a multi-modal approach likely provides the most benefit for women who suffer from this condition.Keywords: dysmenorrhea, prostaglandin, NSAIDs, hormonal contraception, pelvic pain, pharmacologic management, behavioral interventions, surgical intervention

We searched six electronic databases and grey literature to identify primary studies in English published since 2000. We synthesized quantitative and qualitative outcome data simultaneously using a convergent integrated approach and used a Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT) to assess methodological quality of the included studies. Nine articles derived from seven studies were included (3 qualitative, 3 quantitative, 1 mixed method). Four main themes related to parents’ self-reported experiences were identified: 1) appropriateness of the ED to manage and support their child; 2) acknowledgement/recognition of their child’s IDD and incorporation of those considerations into overall care and management; 3) managing and navigating the ED environment; and 4) decision to disclose their child’s condition when visiting the ED. Two articles provided data relevant to information needs, highlighting parents’ desire to have resources supporting ED orientation and access to services within and outside of the ED setting. From the limited number of studies, it was evident that parents wanted better communication with healthcare providers and a greater understanding by ED staff around physical space settings needed to support their child. Resources supporting ED staff and parents to communicate effectively and work together can ensure that children with IDDs care needs are met. Further research into understanding parents’ experiences and information needs related to managing a child with an IDD in the ED is needed to guide the development of effective resources.Keywords: child, developmental disabilities, parents, emergency service, communication

Background: This study aimed to identify factors that influence the mortality rate of patients with coronavirus disease (COVID-19)-associated pulmonary aspergillosis (CAPA). Methods: In this cross-sectional study, data from 23 centers across 15 countries, spanning the period of March 2020 to December 2021, were retrospectively collected. The study population comprised patients who developed invasive pulmonary aspergillosis while being treated for COVID-19 in the intensive care unit. Cox regression and decision tree analyses were used to identify factors associated with mortality in patients with CAPA. Results: A total of 162 patients (males, 65.4 %; median age: 64 [25th–75th: 54.0–73.8] years) were included in the study, of whom 113 died during the 90-day follow-up period. The median duration from CAPA diagnosis to death was 12 (25th–75th: 7–19) days. In the multivariable Cox regression model, an age of ≥65 years (hazard ratio [HR]: 2.05, 95 % confidence interval [CI]: 1.37–3.07), requiring vasopressor therapy at the time of CAPA diagnosis (HR: 1.80, 95 % CI: 1.17–2.76), and receiving renal replacement therapy at the time of CAPA diagnosis (HR: 2.27, 95 % CI: 1.35–3.82) were identified as predictors of mortality. Decision tree analysis revealed that patients with CAPA aged ≥65 years who received corticosteroid treatment for COVID-19 displayed higher mortality rates (estimated rate: 1.6, observed in 46 % of patients). Conclusion: This study concluded that elderly patients with CAPA who receive corticosteroids are at a significantly higher risk of mortality, particularly if they experience multiorgan failure.

IntroductionBlood parasites pose a significant threat to livestock production in southern Egypt, yet there is a scarcity of information regarding their circulation and epidemiology in sheep in this region. This study aimed to investigate the seroprevalence of blood parasite infections in sheep in Assiut governorate, Upper Egypt.MethodsA total of 400 blood samples were collected from sheep of varying ages and genders. The preliminary screening for the presence of piroplasms, mainly Babesia and Theileria spp., via microscopic examination, followed by investigation of the potential risk factors linked with the exposure to infection. Moreover, molecular identification of both parasites on some of positive samples was performed using PCR targeting Babesia 18S rRNA and Theileria annulata Tams1 gene.ResultsThe microscopic examination revealed that among the examined sheep, there was an overall prevalence of blood parasites at 44% (176 out of 400), with Babesia spp. observed in 14% (56 out of 400) and Theileria spp. in 30% (120 out of 400). Furthermore, the infection rate was non-significantly higher in young animals (50%) compared to adults (38.5%) (P = 0.246). Male sheep exhibited a significantly higher vulnerability to both parasites' infection (63.3%) compared to females (35.7%) (P = 0.011). Interestingly, the prevalence of both blood parasites was significantly higher during the cold season (66.1%) compared to the hot season (15.9%) (P = < 0.001). The molecular analysis identified the presence of Babesia ovis and Theileria annulata among a subsample of the positive sheep's bloods films. The identified species were recorded in the GenBank™ databases and assigned specific accession numbers (OQ360720 and OQ360719 for B. ovis), and (OP991838 for T. annulata).ConclusionsTaken together, this study confirms a high prevalence of piroplasmosis and offers epidemiological and molecular insights into blood parasites in sheep from Upper Egypt, highlighting the importance of detecting these parasites in various hosts and their competent vectors (ticks).

31. Analysis of the Prevalence of Lumbar Annular Tears in Adult Patients Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging Data

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the lumbar annular tears prevalence regarding the patient’s history factors, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) recorded data. Materials and Methods: In this study, 218 patients (106 men and 112 women) were evaluated; 136 cases (63 men and 73 women, 20-80 years, mean: 45.4±14.8 years) with Lower Back Pain (LBP) and High-Intensity Zone (HIZ) were diagnosed based on MR images. The diagnosed annular tears from the MRI data, Body Mass Index (BMI, kg/m2), and physical activity of the patients were recorded, and the prevalence of lumbar annular tears was evaluated regarding the mentioned parameters. Results: The prevalence of annular tears was 31.6% at L5/S1 (43/136 patients), 43.4% at L4/L5 (59/136 patients), 16.9% at L3/L4 (23/136 patients), 4.4% at L2/L3 (6/136 patients), and 3.7% at L1/L2 spinal disc space (5/136 patients). Most patients with annular tears had LBP (>60%). Based on the patient's history, 25% of patients had BMI above 30, 8.8% had post-traumatic history, 15.4% had a history of falling down, 19.1% had slipped down history, 16.2% were athletes, and 15.4% performed heavy work. Conclusion: The prevalence of lumbar annular tears was higher in patients having LBP and a BMI over 30, which should be considered possible risk factors. This study demonstrated that annular tears are more likely to occur in lower lumbar discs, especially in L4/L5 and L5/S1 discs.

The performance of a packed bed reactor for CO2 conversion to methanol was investigated. Because of the exothermic reaction, temperature and concentration gradients happen along the reactor. A 2D packed-bed reactor model was applied for numerical investigations, coupled with detailed reaction kinetics and transport phenomena. The effect of feed inlet pressure and temperature on CO2 conversion and temperature profiles along the reactor was evaluated. The results showed that firstly increase in the temperature in the reactor because of the presence of exothermic reactions and then slight decrease in the temperature at top section of the reactor. Pressure was decrease from 55 bar to around 54 bar along the reactor. It was found that the CO2 conversion at outlet of reactor was 18.18 % at T = 475 K and it was increased to 23 % at temperature of 498 K and 555 K. The CO2 conversion was reached its maximum at short distance from the reactor entrance at T = 555 K. Also, the outlet temperature of gas mixture was increased from 522.53 K to 534.56 K with increasing feed inlet pressure from 35 bar to 55 bar. The CO2 conversion was 18.12 %, 20.77 %, and 22.96 % at pressures equal to 35, 45, and 55 bar respectively.

Incorporating narrow band gap oxide semiconductors and metals into zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures broadens the range of light sensitivity to include visible wavelengths. In this study, the photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) dye was studied as a model for environmental pollution in aqueous media. This study describes the use of photodegradation catalysts, including gold (Au), ZnO, and Au–ZnO nanocomposites (prepared in ratios of 90:10 and 95:5) using the extract of Citrus medica leaves. X-ray diffraction (XRD) findings have shown that ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) have a hexagonal wurtzite structure. Field emission-scanning electron microscopy findings have depicted that ZnO NPs have diverse shapes, including spherical, quasi-spherical, hexagonal, and anisotropic, with some clumping. Au exhibits consistent spherical shapes and sizes with even distribution. Au–ZnO (90:10) shows quasi-spherical NPs with interconnected spherical Au, forming a porous and uneven surface. Au–ZnO (95:5) has spherical gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) dispersed on a textured ZnO surface, with some clustering and size variation as evident from the transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and diffuse reflectance UV-visible spectroscopy analysis. The characterization results have demonstrated the uniform distribution of Au across the ZnO lattice. Additionally, the XRD patterns confirmed the hexagonal wurtzite structure of ZnO. Furthermore, energy-dispersive analysis of X-ray (EDX)-mapping verified the inclusion of zinc, oxygen, and Au in the hybrid Au–ZnO nanocomposites and their effective distribution. The topological analysis revealed a rough surface for the generated nanostructures. By comparing the results of various techniques, EDX analysis using atomic and weight ratios confirmed the presence of oxygen and Au in the nanocomposite. Additionally, the surface area analysis (BET) test has reported that the adsorption and desorption of nitrogen follow a Type III isotherm. The presence of an H3-type hysteresis loop further confirms the mesoporous nature of the composites, which reports the presence of wedge-shaped pores. The Au–ZnO (90:10) nanocomposite exhibits a higher surface roughness compared to other composites. In addition, this UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy has enumerated the band gaps of various nanomaterials using UV-visible spectroscopy. Moreover, the analysis has unveiled that combining ZnO with Au NPs (doping) improved the photocatalytic performance of ZnO. This improvement is attributed to the formation of additional energy levels within the ZnO band gap due to the presence of Au ions. Experimental investigation of the breakdown of RhB dye under visible light irradiation revealed superior photocatalytic activity for the Au–ZnO (90:10) nanocomposite compared to both Au–ZnO (95:5) and pure ZnO and Au counterparts. Multiple experiments confirmed the effective photodegradation and removal of RhB dye from the aqueous medium using the nanocatalyst under visible light irradiation. Under optimal conditions (1.0 g·L−1 photocatalyst, 10 ppm RhB, and pH 10), 99% photodegradation efficiency was reached within 50 min of irradiation. Investigation of reactive species revealed that the increased effectiveness of photodegradation in Au–ZnO (90:10) stems from the presence of photogenerated holes and hydroxyl radicals. The study also analyzed the reaction kinetics and order, and the reusability of the best photocatalyst Au–ZnO (90:10)) was confirmed through five consecutive cycles, demonstrating its sustained effectiveness in photodegradation. These findings highlight the potential of Au–ZnO (90:10) nanocomposite as a promising material for photocatalytic degradation of organic dyes.

Electrospinning is a cost-effective but very intricate method of producing polymeric nanofibers at room temperature. Unfortunately however, it is extremely difficult to predict the diameter or other properties of the fibers produced via electrospinning a prior. In this paper, we present a new approach to simulate fiber formation during electrospinning. Our work builds on the mathematical framework that was originally developed by Reneker and Yarin in 2000. Our approach incorporates the 3D electrostatic field that surrounds the fiber in a Lagrangian discrete particle tracking algorithm that tracks the trajectory of the fiber in air and predicts its deposition velocity and diameter. We investigate the effects of electrostatic field spatial variation on fiber electrospinning and compare our results with those obtained using a constant electrostatic field, the traditional approach, and with experiments (conducted using polyurethane). We considered three different electrospinning configurations of single-needle-plate-collector, single-needle-drum-collector, and two-needles-drum-collector to investigate how different electrostatic fields impact fiber formation. Chondroid hamartoma is the most common benign tumor of lung, which account 8% of pulmonary neoplasm. Most often they are seen peripherally in the lung parenchyma. But very rarely it can originate endo-bronchially and present as collapse of lung or lobe. To be precise less than 10% cases was reported to be found. Here we mention a case of endobronchial chondroid hamartoma in a 63 years old gentleman presented as right middle lobe collapse and was diagnosed after repeated attempts of bronchoscopic biopsy or trans-thoracic fine needle aspiration. ETABS software is used to analyze the structural response of reinforced concrete (RCC) and post-tensioned (PT) slabs under lateral loading. This study investigates RCC and PT slabs’ behavior by using finite element analysis to determine bending moments, shear forces, and storey drift. Prestrassed slabs display lower bending moments and shear forces than RCC slabs, demonstrating the effectiveness of prestressing in reducing structural requirements. A reduction in storey drift also indicates improved resistance to lateral deformations in PT slabs. In terms of structural performance and cost-effectiveness, PT slabs offer potential benefits for constructing layouts and construction, making them an attractive choice.

This study optimizes the production of activated carbon (AC) from two distinct agricultural wastes, barley husk and maize cob. The process is refined using the Taguchi method with the goal of enhancing water treatment techniques. The study emphasizes how crucial it is to make the transition towards renewable and affordable raw materials for the manufacturing of AC given the predicted expansion of the worldwide demand for AC. The study assessed the impact of four crucial variables on the production and quality of AC using a L9 orthogonal array: phosphoric acid concentration, heating by microwave time, power from the microwave, and nitrogen flow rate. Findings indicated that the most important element for maximizing the production of AC from these agricultural leftovers was microwave power, along with the percentage of phosphoric acid and the time frame of the heating process.

Although floating columns can be useful and an achievable choice, it is important to research their structural performance and cost-effectiveness in the event of substantial ground motion imposed on by an earthquake. A building’s overall dimensions, geometry, and shape all impact how it acts and acts when subjected to seismic loads. For this reason, it is necessary to assess how well floating column buildings perform in seismically vulnerable places in comparison to conventional buildings. In this work, the performance of structures with floating columns for seismic loading is observed using dynamic analytic techniques in accordance with IS 1893 (2005). This study analyses both the floating columns and the conventional building without floating columns. When compared to a regular building, the research reveals that the floating column buildings exhibit a very quick increase in base shear and story displacement. The horizontal displacements experienced by floating column buildings are proportionally larger due to an increase in the fundamental time period. If the lateral displacement exceeds the codespecified maximum limit, damage to structural and non-structural parts may result. The Indian Government is providing grains to those in need at affordable prices through a process known as the Public Distribution System. However, the current distribution methods employed in the public distribution system rely on manual processes, which may lead to errors, be time-consuming, and foster corruption. To address these issues, the proposed work employs Advanced Interdisciplinary Techniques such as RFID cards and readers to authenticate ration cardholders and ensure precise ration dispensing, significantly reducing inaccuracies and fraudulent activities. Furthermore, it incorporates a GSM-based mechanism with OTP authentication, adding an extra layer of security and efficiency. The GSM module sends a one-time password (OTP) to the user’s registered mobile number before dispensing rations, ensuring that only authorized individuals receive their entitled goods. Customers can select the goods they need from the allocation provided by the Government, and the amount will be automatically deducted from their RFID card based on the goods selected. A microcontroller manages the motor and relay to dispense items, while an alarm system alerts in cases of incorrect OTP entries, effectively deterring unauthorized access to rations. This system promises to make the ration distribution process more efficient, transparent, and accountable. In order to improve and restore the functions of biological tissues and organs as well as for the identification and treatment of diseases, biomedical materials a developing subject of materials science are indispensable. Materials like these are frequently employed in many different medical equipment employed in clinical settings, such as scaffolding, sutures, substitute teeth, artificial bones, and even heart replacements. Innovative methods for identifying, treating, and regaining physiological functions have been made possible by biomedical materials, which have completely changed the healthcare industry. The development, categorization, and therapeutic uses of biomedical materials are examined in this study, with a focus on metallic biomaterials, synthetic polymers, and bio ceramics in addition to their biologically derived counterparts, such as collagen, silk, chitosan, and alginate. The functionality of medical devices has been significantly advanced by bioengineering improvements, that have produced healing implants and progressive diagnostic imaging that improve patient effects. Biosensors are essential for transforming biological signals into electrical ones and have a wide range of uses in the biomedical, agricultural, and environmental fields. A biosensor is a device that combines biological and physicochemical elements to detect changes in physiological or biochemical states. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the development and application of enzymatic and immunological biosensors, emphasizing their significant role in environmental, agricultural, and biomedical sectors. By leveraging the unique properties of natural polysaccharides, particularly cellulose, for their construction, these biosensors offer enhanced biocompatibility, robust mechanical strength, and costeffectiveness. This study discusses the principles underlying biosensors, including their biological recognition elements, transduction mechanisms, and output systems. Enzymatic biosensors, characterized by their use of enzymes as bio receptors, and immunological biosensors, utilizing antibodies or antigens for the detection of immunocomplex formation, are evaluated in detail. Through comparative analysis, the paper highlights the diverse functionalities, sensitivities, and applications of these biosensors, ranging from glucose and hydrogen peroxide detection to monitoring of protein markers and E. coli bacteria. The study underscores the biosensors’ ability for facilitating rapid, incredibly sensitive, and specific detection capabilities, critical for advancing scientific diagnostics, environmental surveillance, and food protection.

Composites are replacing more conventional materials due to their advantageous properties, such as high strength, hardness, low weight, and wear resistance. In this study, the stir casting method is used to create an Al7075/SiC aluminium matrix composite, and its dry sliding wear behaviour is examined. The EDX and SEM results both show that the silicon carbide is evenly distributed throughout the matrix. The dry sliding wear behaviour of the composites is investigated using the Taguchi L16 orthogonal array to reduce the number of experimental runs. Four key process parameters—reinforcement quantity (0%, 3%, 6%, and 9%), load (15N, 30N, 45N, and 60N), sliding velocity (0.75m/s), sliding distance (1.5m/s), and sliding distance (3m/s)—are evaluated across four levels to determine the best parameter combination for reducing wear rate. S/N ratios are best when the following conditions are met: 3 wt.% SiC reinforcement, 15 N load, 3 m/s sliding velocity, and 800 m sliding distance (as shown in the main effect graphic). Wear rate, frictional force, and coefficient of friction are all affected by the four process parameters, and their effects are often studied using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) outcome indicated that the probability value associated with the applied load was below 0.05, signifying statistical significance.

This work investigates the impact of several polymer matrix types, which are utilised as a capping layer around gold particles, on the optical properties. Nanocomposite materials consisting of gold and polymers such as polyethylene oxide, polyvinyl alcohol, and polyvinyl pyrrolidone were produced by a chemical reduction process. Tri sodium citrate was employed as the reducing agent. using the drop casting approach, nanocomposites based on gold were successfully put as a film on glass substrates.. An investigation was conducted to determine the influence of the polymer matrix type on the optical properties, including surface plasmon resonance, direct band gap, and indirect band gap. Furthermore, the absorption spectra of the materials that were synthesised demonstrated that the selection of the polymer that was utilised during the preparation process has a considerable impact on the location of the plasmonic absorption peak as well as the magnitude of the energy gap. Within the range of 1.9 to 2.3 electron volts (eV), the band gaps were found to be present.

Nanocomposites materials of silver (Ag) with polyethene oxide, venal polyalcohol and polyvinyl pyrrolidone were synthesized by chemical reduction method using trisodium citrate (TSC) as a reduction agent. Silver based nanocomposites deposited as a film by dropcasting technique on (2x2 cm2) glass substrates. The effect of polymer matrix type on the optical properties (surface plasmon resonance, transmission and direct and indirect bandgap) were investigated. It was observed from the absorption spectra of the various synthesized materials that the type of polymer used in the preparation process significantly influences the location of the plasmonic absorption peak and the amount of the energy gap.
