Virtual exchanges through the Trans-Atlantic and Pacific Project (TAPP) allow instructors to design collaborations that engage students in global, international, and intercultural (GII) competencies, which are increasingly emphasised through the ongoing process of internationalisation of higher education. This article constitutes a practice report that describes two TAPP virtual exchanges designed by an instructor in Spain and one in the United States between master’s level translation students at a research university in Spain and 1) undergraduate students enrolled in a specialised technical writing course at a research university in the U.S. and 2) students in a graduate editing course at a regional university in the U.S. A content analysis of pre- and postlearning reports authored by the translation students demonstrates that students engaged in GII competencies such as openness, adaptability, and intercultural communication, which further reinforced the internationalisation of the curriculum.

Abstract Objectives MAchine Learning In MyelomA Response (MALIMAR) is an observational clinical study combining “real-world” and clinical trial data, both retrospective and prospective. Images were acquired on three MRI scanners over a 10-year window at two institutions, leading to a need for extensive curation. Methods Curation involved image aggregation, pseudonymisation, allocation between project phases, data cleaning, upload to an XNAT repository visible from multiple sites, annotation, incorporation of machine learning research outputs and quality assurance using programmatic methods. Results A total of 796 whole-body MR imaging sessions from 462 subjects were curated. A major change in scan protocol part way through the retrospective window meant that approximately 30% of available imaging sessions had properties that differed significantly from the remainder of the data. Issues were found with a vendor-supplied clinical algorithm for “composing” whole-body images from multiple imaging stations. Historic weaknesses in a digital video disk (DVD) research archive (already addressed by the mid-2010s) were highlighted by incomplete datasets, some of which could not be completely recovered. The final dataset contained 736 imaging sessions for 432 subjects. Software was written to clean and harmonise data. Implications for the subsequent machine learning activity are considered. Conclusions MALIMAR exemplifies the vital role that curation plays in machine learning studies that use real-world data. A research repository such as XNAT facilitates day-to-day management, ensures robustness and consistency and enhances the value of the final dataset. The types of process described here will be vital for future large-scale multi-institutional and multi-national imaging projects. Critical relevance statement This article showcases innovative data curation methods using a state-of-the-art image repository platform; such tools will be vital for managing the large multi-institutional datasets required to train and validate generalisable ML algorithms and future foundation models in medical imaging. Key points • Heterogeneous data in the MALIMAR study required the development of novel curation strategies. • Correction of multiple problems affecting the real-world data was successful, but implications for machine learning are still being evaluated. • Modern image repositories have rich application programming interfaces enabling data enrichment and programmatic QA, making them much more than simple “image marts”. The COVID-19 pandemic had numerous consequences for work and family, but one of the most important was the substantial increase in remote work. Despite interest in changes to remote work and questions about whether the new environment of remote work will persist long-term, we know little about variation in workers’ experiences with remote work since the beginning of the pandemic. In this data visualization, we use longitudinal data on U.S. working parents from 2020–2023 and group-based trajectory models to illustrate varying patterns of remote work for partnered parents. The heterogeneity of parents’ experiences with remote work throughout the pandemic reveals important nuances not previously identified in tracking polls and highlights important gender differences that likely had implications for mothers’ and fathers’ well-being and gender equality.

During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, remote work became the new reality for many fathers. Though time availability theory suggests that this newfound flexibility should lead to more domestic labor on the part of fathers, many were skeptical that fathers would step up to shoulder the load at home. Indeed, the findings are decidedly mixed on the association of fathers’ remote work with their performance of housework and childcare. Nonetheless, research has yet to consider how contextual factors, such as fathers’ gender ideologies and mothers’ employment, may condition these associations. Using data from Wave 1 of the Study on U.S. Parents’ Divisions of Labor During COVID-19 (SPDLC), we examine how gender ideology moderates the association between fathers’ remote work and their performance and share of childcare during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic in both sole-earner and dual-earner families. The results show, for sole-earning fathers and dual-earner fathers with egalitarian gender attitudes, that the frequency of remote work was positively associated with fathers performing more, and a greater share of, childcare during the pandemic. Yet, only dual-earner fathers with egalitarian gender attitudes performed an equal share of childcare in their families. These findings suggest that the pandemic provided structural opportunities for fathers, particularly egalitarian-minded fathers, to be the equally engaged parents they desired.

Canada's northern cratons record a complex poly‐metamorphic evolution in response to multiple orogenic events. The Snowbird Tectonic Zone (STZ), the principal suture between the Archean Rae and Hearne cratons, is a highly debated structure; it is argued to have accommodated modern‐style accretion in either the Neoarchean (2.6–2.5 Ga) or Palaeoproterozoic (ca. 1.9 Ga). To resolve this controversy, we use Lu–Hf garnet geochronology to date an eclogite collected from the East Athabasca mylonite triangle of the STZ. Garnet shows prograde trace‐element zoning, and we obtained an age of 1914.5 ± 3.4 Ma. The age is interpreted to date the timing of collision related to deep burial of crust along the STZ. This strongly supports Palaeoproterozoic terminal collision between the Rae and Hearne cratons, and that to constrain high‐pressure metamorphism during supercontinent assembly, dating eclogite itself is key. Increased emphasis has been placed on elucidating the contribution of client variables, such as treatment preference, to optimize evidence-based practice. This analog study sought to better understand variables associated with treatment preference using a convenience sample of college students (n = 54) who read brief descriptions of three interventions for negative thoughts—defusion, noticing, and restructuring. They rated each on acceptability and practicality and completed measures of cognitive fusion, emotional distress, and experiential avoidance as possible moderating variables. Restructuring was overwhelmingly preferred and rated as more acceptable than the two alternatives by both the overall sample and a distressed subsample. Preference for defusion or noticing was not predicted by ratings of acceptability or practicality but by elevated levels of cognitive fusion and emotional distress consistent with a compensation model. Limitations of the study and its implications for further research on psychotherapy preference and its integration within evidence-based practice are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
