Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) conventionally occurs at the interface of a thin metallic film and an external dielectric medium in fiber optics through core‐guided light. However, this work introduces theoretical and experimental evidence suggesting that the SPR in optical fibers can also be induced through light scattering from Au nanoparticles (NPs) on the thin metallic film, defined as nanoparticle‐induced SPR (NPI‐SPR). This method adheres to phase‐matching conditions between SPR dispersion curves and the wave vectors of scattered light from Au NPs. Experimentally, these conditions are met on an etched optical fiber, enabling direct interaction between light and immobilized Au NPs. Compared to SPR, NPI‐SPR exhibits stronger field intensity in the external region and wavelength tuning capabilities (750 to 1250 nm) by varying Au NP diameters (20 to 90 nm). NPI‐SPR demonstrates refractive index sensitivities of 4000 to 4416 nm per refractive index unit, nearly double those of typical SPR using the same optical fiber configuration sans Au NPs. Additionally, NPI‐SPR fiber configuration has demonstrated its applicability for developing biosensors, achieving a remarkable limit of detection of 0.004 nm for thrombin protein evaluation, a twenty‐fold enhancement compared to typical SPR. Foodborne allergies and illnesses represent a major global health concern. In particular, fish can trigger life-threatening food allergic reactions and poisoning effects, mainly caused by the ingestion of parvalbumin toxin. Additionally, preformed histamine in less-than-fresh fish serves as a toxicological alert. Consequently, the analytical assessment of parvalbumin and histamine levels in fish becomes a critical public health safety measure. The multiplex detection of both analytes has emerged as an important issue. The analytical detection of parvalbumin and histamine requires different assays; while the determination of parvalbumin is commonly carried out by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, histamine is analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography. In this study, we present an approach for multiplexing detection and quantification of trace amounts of parvalbumin and histamine in canned fish. This is achieved through a colorimetric and surface-enhanced Raman-scattering-based competitive lateral flow assay (SERS-LFIA) employing plasmonic nanoparticles. Two distinct SERS nanotags tailored for histamine or β-parvalbumin detection were synthesized. Initially, spherical 50 nm Au@Ag core–shell nanoparticles (Au@Ag NPs) were encoded with either rhodamine B isothiocyanate (RBITC) or malachite green isothiocyanate (MGITC). Subsequently, these nanoparticles were bioconjugated with anti-β-parvalbumin and antihistamine, forming the basis for our detection and quantification methodology. Additionally, our approach demonstrates the use of SERS-LFIA for the sensitive and multiplexed detection of parvalbumin and histamine on a single test line, paving the way for on-site detection employing portable Raman instruments. Lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (LHP NCs) are generally prone to surface defect formation during the purification process, resulting in a reduced photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield. The purification of LHP NCs using antisolvents leads to the detachment of surface atoms and ligandsin the form of alkylammonium‐halides or A‐carboxylates (A: Cs, methylammonium, MA, or formamidinium, FA. Currently, intense research is being carried out to improve the surface stability of LHP NCs using various long‐chain organic ligands that strongly bind to the surface of NCs. Herein, the findings on the higher surface stability of hybrid (MAPbBr3 and FAPbBr3) LHP NCs compared to that of inorganic CsPbBr3 NCs against purification with polar antisolvents are reported. It is discovered that the CsPbBr3 NC surface stability can be enhanced (reaching that of hybrid perovskite NCs) by the incorporation of a small amount of MA or FA A‐site organic cations into their lattice, corroborated by the evidence that the PL quantum yield of mixed A‐cation CsxFA1‐xPbBr3 and CsxMA1‐xPbBr3 NCs remains unaffected after several purification cycles. It is hypothesized that this is attributed to hydrogen bonding between the organic A‐site cations and the neighboring halides on the surface. Noble metal nanoparticles, particularly gold and silver nanoparticles, have garnered significant attention due to their ability to manipulate light at the nanoscale through their localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR). While their LSPRs below 1100 nm were extensively exploited in a wide range of applications, their potential in the near-infrared (NIR) region, crucial for optical communication and sensing, remains relatively underexplored. One primary reason is likely the limited strategies available to obtain highly stable plasmonic nanoparticles with tailored optical properties in the NIR region. Herein, we synthesized AuAg nanorattles (NRTs) with tailored and narrow plasmonic responses ranging from 1000 to 3000 nm. Additionally, we performed comprehensive characterization, employing advanced electron microscopy and various spectroscopic techniques, coupled with finite difference time domain (FDTD) simulations, to elucidate their optical properties. Notably, we unveiled the main external and internal LSPR modes by combining electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) with surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). Furthermore, we demonstrated through surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy (SEIRA) that the NRTs can significantly enhance the infrared signals of a model molecule. Plasmonic nanoparticles (NPs) have played a significant role in the evolution of modern nanoscience and nanotechnology in terms of colloidal synthesis, general understanding of nanocrystal growth mechanisms, and their impact in a wide range of applications. They exhibit strong visible colors due to localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) that depends on their size, shape, composition, and the surrounding dielectric environment. Under resonant excitation, the LSPR of plasmonic NPs leads to a strong field enhancement near their surfaces and thus enhances various light-matter interactions. These unique optical properties of plasmonic NPs have been used to design chemical and biological sensors. Over the last few decades, colloidal plasmonic NPs have been greatly exploited in sensing applications through LSPR shifts (colorimetry), surface-enhanced Raman scattering, surface-enhanced fluorescence, and chiroptical activity. Although colloidal plasmonic NPs have emerged at the forefront of nanobiosensors, there are still several important challenges to be addressed for the realization of plasmonic NP-based sensor kits for routine use in daily life. In this comprehensive review, researchers of different disciplines (colloidal and analytical chemistry, biology, physics, and medicine) have joined together to summarize the past, present, and future of plasmonic NP-based sensors in terms of different sensing platforms, understanding of the sensing mechanisms, different chemical and biological analytes, and the expected future technologies. This review is expected to guide the researchers currently working in this field and inspire future generations of scientists to join this compelling research field and its branches.
