Objective: To determine the correlation of burnout syndrome with emotional intelligence at workplace. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in six public sector hospitals of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between June and November, 2022. Male and female clinicians from Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics / Gynaecology, Paediatrics Medicine, Paediatric Surgery, Gastroenterology, Anesthesiology, Psychiatry, Radiology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Nephrology, Urology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Endocrinology, Rheumatology and Cardiology were included in the study. The study was initiated after ethical approval from ethical review board of Khyber Medical University. Informed consent was taken from all study participants. They were given a proforma to fill. The proforma was divided into three categories; clinician demographics, Maslach Burnout inventory, and Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale. All questions on the Maslach Burnout inventory and Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale pertained to their duty hours from 8am to 4pm. The Maslach Burnout Inventory was stratified into three sub-scales of emotional exhaustion, personal accomplishment and depersonalization. Results were compiled in SPSS 25. Correlation between the three strata of MBI was made with SEIS and stratified on the basis of gender, specialty, designation, institute, and clinical experience. Results: Emotional exhaustion has a negative correlation at Spearman correlation = -0.272 with SEIS; Personal accomplishment has a positive correlation at Spearman correlation = 0.402; Depersonalization has a negative correlation with SEIS at Spearman correlation = -0.349. Conclusions: There is a weak correlation between burnout syndrome and emotional intelligence among clinicians. Further studies need to be conducted on a larger scale to explore the reasons behind this weak correlation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to understand job characteristics of generations Y and Z who present a new workforce demographic challenge for organizations. Using the Work Design Questionnaire, data were collected from 582 representatives of these generations residing in Pakistan and Russia and analyzed using a latent profile analysis and a multinomial logistic regression. The analysis resulted in three profiles across both generations that point to weak, moderate, and strong preference for job characteristics. The results indicate generation Z have higher preferences for feedback from others and from the job than generation Y while generation Y have higher preferences for work conditions than generation Z. Specifically, we examine the effects of generation and work experience on the membership in job characteristics profiles. The results could assist organizations in re‐calibrating their work design approaches and practices to better integrate, motivate, and retain these cohorts of employees. Adjustments should be made to the attraction, recruitment, selection, and onboarding strategies for new employees and motivation, communication, and retention practices for current employees. Superior Vena Cava Syndrome (SVC syndrome) due to a retrosternal goiter is exceptionally rare, with only a handful of documented cases in medical literature. The utilization of radionuclide venography is a valuable, noninvasive procedure that plays a crucial role in the comprehensive assessment of these rare occurrences. We present here a case of 55-year-old male patient referred to nuclear medicine department for evaluation of neck swelling. He had neck swelling for a past 06 years accompanied by dyspnea on lying down and had visibly dilated veins in the neck and anterior chest wall. Based on sign and symptoms of the patient, superior vena cava syndrome was provisional diagnosis and radionuclide venography with thyroid scan (and SPECT/CT) were performed. Scintigraphic findings favored SVC syndrome secondary to retrosternal goiter. Patient was referred to surgical department where subtotal thyroidectomy was performed. Histopathology showed benign thyroid nodular disease. The patient is now clinically stable, on thyroxine and his symptoms have resolved. Radionuclide venography stands out as a non-invasive and safe diagnostic tool that not only aids in the initial identification of SVC syndrome but also provides essential insights into collateral circulation dynamics.
