Parkinson's disease (PD) represents one of the most frequent neurodegenerative disorders for which clinically useful biomarkers remain to be identified and validated. Here, we adopted an untargeted omics approach to disclose lipidomic, metabolomic and proteomic alterations in plasma and in dermal fibroblasts of PD patients carrying mutations in TMEM175 gene. We revealed a wide dysregulation of lysosome, autophagy, and mitochondrial pathways in these patients, supporting a role of this channel in regulating these cellular processes. The most significant altered lipid classes were Fatty acyls, Glycerophospholipids and Phosphosphingolipids. The plasma level of Phosphatidylcholines (PC) and Phosphatidylinositol (PI) 34:1 significantly correlated with an earlier age at onset of the disease in TMEM175 patients (p = 0.008; p = 0.006). In plasma we also observed altered amino acids metabolic pathways in PD patients. We highlighted that increased level of L-glutamate strongly correlated (p < 0.001) with the severity of motor and non-motor symptoms in PD&#95;TMEM175 patients. In dermal fibroblasts, we disclosed alterations of proteins involved in lipids biosynthesis (PAG15, PP4P1, GALC, FYV1, PIGO, PGPS1, PLPP1), in the insulin pathway (IGF2R), in mitochondrial metabolism (ACD10, ACD11, ACADS) and autophagy (RAB7L). Interestingly, we quantified 43 lysosomal or lysosomal-related proteins, which were differentially modulated between TMEM175 patients and controls. Integrative correlation analysis of proteome and lipidome of PD&#95;TMEM175 cellular models identified a strong positive correlation of 13 proteins involved in biosynthetic processes with PC and Ceramides. Introduction: The number of retracted articles in the bio-medical field, including dentistry, is increasing. The objective of this study was to identify retracted articles in endodontic-related literature and outline their main characteristics., Evidence Acquisition: The Medline and Scopus databases were searched in January 2024. Additional records were identified by consulting the online database www.retractiondatabase.org. Retracted articles concerning endodontic topics and the relative retraction notes were retrieved and relevant data extracted., Evidence Synthesis: Sixty articles were identified, published between 2004 and 2022, with a mean of 3.0±2.3 retracted articles per year. The number of retracted articles per year did not significantly grow over time. The average time between the article and retraction note publication was 36.1±22.3 months. The majority of articles originated from Asia and were in-vitro studies. Only 6.7% of the articles were retracted due to honest errors. The main reasons of retraction were image/data manipulation (20%), plagiarism (18%), unavailability of raw data (10%), authorship issues (10%) and publication process issues (10%). A single research group accounted for 17 retractions., Conclusions: Unlike the dental field, the number of retracted articles in endodontics has not increased significantly over the time period considered. Despite this, controls against research misconduct must be increased to preserve the credibility of scientific research.

Marine hydrothermal ecosystems represent extreme environments connected to submarine volcanic areas characterized by vents, having high temperatures and particular chemical compositions. The hydrothermal marine system of Panarea, located in one of the seven small islands belonging to the Aeolian Archipelago (southern Tyrrhenian Sea), is characterized by a range of vents exhibiting diverse physical and chemical conditions. We aimed to analyze the microbial community of a peculiar hot spring belonging to the Panarea hydrothermal field, known as "Black Point" (BP), in two separate sampling expeditions (May and August). Our results demonstrated that the chemical-physical variations within this hydrothermal vent, such as temperature fluctuations, mineral content, and hydrothermal fluid dynamics, play a role in shaping the structure and diversity of microbial communities. The differences between the two sampling expeditions suggest that seasonal changes, i.e., in temperature, pH, and redox potential (Eh), could drive microbial community shifts over time.

Over the past 70 years, there has been extensive research focused on preventing chemotherapy-related cardiovascular complications. However, the current state of cardio-oncology research has raised more questions than answers. Experimental studies often present data that are difficult to compare and, at times, contradictory. One notable limitation in translating experimental findings to clinical practice is the reliance on models that administer only one chemotherapeutic drug to experimental animals, despite the common use of multidrug cancer treatments in real clinical settings. Patients with diabetic are at a higher risk of developing hepatic disorders compared to non-diabetic individuals. This increased risk can be attributed to the diabetic environment, which triggers and exacerbates harmful pathways involved in both diabetic complications and hepatic disorders. Therefore, it is important to consider the use of antidiabetic agents that offer benefits beyond glycemic control and have positive effects on liver tissues. Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) mimetics are a novel class of antidiabetic medications known for their potent blood sugar-lowering effects. Emerging evidence suggests that these drugs also have favorable effects on the liver. However, the precise effects and underlying mechanisms are not yet fully understood. The aim of this retrospective multicentric case series is to describe the CT findings of ovarian neoplasia in dogs. Twenty dogs with pre- and postcontrast CT exams and cytological/histological diagnosis of ovarian neoplasia were included. Five dogs presented with bilateral tumors, for a total of 25 neoplasms: 15 carcinomas (4 bilateral), 4 granulosa cell tumors, 2 poorly differentiated malignant neoplasia (bilateral), 2 luteomas, 1 teratoma, 1 dysgerminoma. In two dogs, the tumor developed from an ovarian remnant. Ovarian tumors showed variable size, lobulated shape, and precontrast heterogenous appearance. Mineral foci and/or fat components were rare, observed in teratoma, granulosa cell tumors (2), and ovarian carcinoma. Tumor type was not found to be associated with any CT features. Larger masses were more likely located in the central abdomen ventral to the ipsilateral kidney, demonstrated signs of tumor rupture, and were associated with abdominal or sternal lymphadenopathy and peritoneal effusion. A tortuous ovarian artery was constantly detectable, associated with an enlarged gonadal vein (12 cases). Related cavitary changes were peritoneal effusion (14 dogs) and sternal lymphadenopathy (7 dogs). Presumed or confirmed metastasis was reported in 9 of 20 cases, with CT evidence of transcoelomic (serosal thickening, peritoneal nodules, omental cake, implant lesions to the liver, spleen, and diaphragm), lymphatic and hematogenous spread (lungs, liver, bone, muscles, and spleen). In conclusion, the present study reports the CT features of different canine ovarian neoplasia. In the period of increasing prevalence of metabolic disorders such as obesity and diabetes, healthcare professionals are facing significant challenges. Therefore, an accurate global assessment of insulin resistance is of utmost importance. Current medical research is focused on identifying an easily accessible and reproducible gold-standard surrogate marker for insulin resistance. Ideally, such a marker would enable healthcare providers to predict the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. The triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) is a promising marker for preventive cardiology and cardiometabolic medicine. This narrative review article aims to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the credibility of TyG as a surrogate marker of insulin resistance among patients at different stages across the cardiometabolic continuum.
