To mark this celebratory milestone, it is with great pleasure that I present to you NAVIGATE. In the ever-evolving landscape of medicine, the ability to navigate through challenges and unforeseen obstacles is paramount. NAVIGATE serves as a timely invitation for our colleagues to reflect on the distances traversed and to envision the new horizons that lie ahead. We sought to highlight the constellation of tools utilized when we feel lost and to acknowledge the beacons that steer our actions. The subsequent pages offer its readers profoundinsights into the extraordinary journeys undertaken by the greater UCI Health community. This article focuses on Elpis Kesaratsian (1830–1913), the first Armenian female editor who founded and published the Guitar magazine (1861–63) but has been neglected in the field of Armenian history and culture studies for more than 160 years. This study sheds light on the geopolitical and historical contexts in Constantinople in the second half of the nineteenth century, the imperial censorship, the criticism regarding the magazine Guitar, the unbreakable will that the first Armenian female editor, who also acted as a writer, journalist, and translator, Elpis Kesaratsian was guided by throughout her life as a representative of a Christian national minority living in the nineteenth century Ottoman Empire. The many roles of Elpis Kesaratsian, including those of woman-editor, woman-publicist, woman-publisher, woman-book author, woman-translator, woman-lead nurse, woman-teacher that she fulfilled under the oppression and censorship of the Ottoman Empire, were revealed through investigative, biographical and comparative analyses. On 20th April 1949, «Repertorio» began its publications. The magazine, edited by Umberto Colombini, not only published the texts of radio dramas broadcast by Rai, but also featured a wealth of critical essays questioning the artistic and expressive potential of the new mass medium. Among the protagonists of the Rai radio season examined were names that were already famous, such as Diego Fabbri, or that were to become so shortly afterwards, such as Alberto Perrini, the young winner of the Stresa Prize for radio playwrights, sponsored by «Repertorio». Among the columns was an enquiry, Will television cancel radio theatre?, in which the answers of various ‘insiders’ are recorded. A list of the scripts of works broadcast on the radio published by the periodical is presented in the Appendix.

The article is included in the range of works devoted to the study of genre characteristics of texts and genre forms. The relevance of the study is determined by the specific nature of speech genres and their variability. The purpose of the work is to research the magazine “Tram” as a speech genre and its genre forms. The material for the study was the journal issues published between 1990 and 1995. The article tries to consider the relationship between the concepts of “genre” and “genre form”. The authors adhere to the point of view that a “genre form” is a genre that is part of the structure of another, more complex genre. One of the genre characteristics of the magazine “Tram” and its constituent genre forms is creolization/polycode, a combination of verbal and paraverbal components. On the one hand, the interaction of these elements turns out to be a feature of all magazines for children and teenagers. On the other hand, drawings, sometimes their predominance over the verbal text, their location on the page, color, variety of fonts distinguish the analyzed magazine from others. The magazine “Tram” distinguishes genre forms, which are divided into two groups – traditional and new ones. The analysis shows that traditional genre forms are stories, comics, riddles, fairy tales (folk, author’s, fantasy ones), works of young readers, instructions; new genre forms include a conversation with the reader, the genre of limericks, words-epigraphs, fairy tales, messages about Orthodox holidays, cooking recipes (“gastronomic pages”). The authors of the article considers “traditionality” to be conditional, because while maintaining the genre form, the content of the texts presented in the magazine differs from the texts of the same genre forms from other children’s magazines: the basis of the riddle is not comparison or metaphor and epithet, but irony; the stories are constructed as a dialogue that continues from issue to issue, or they are preceded by comments from the compilers regarding the author or the content of the work; there appear intertextual tales, in the creation of which readers take part.

En Chile, la década del Centenario de la República presentó una preocupación por la corporalidad y su perfeccionamiento. El bienestar nacional se vio representado en los cuerpos, que podían mejorar por medio del ejercicio físico. En este ámbito, el rol de la mujer fue fundamental. Para ellas se estableció el ejercicio físico desde tres perspectivas: la “mujer madre”, en su relación al trabajo doméstico y la maternidad; la “mujer moderna”, que se hace parte de actividades masculinizadas en el espacio público, como el deporte; y la “mujer bella” preocupada del “mejoramiento” de su aspecto, desde una noción moderna de la belleza. Uno de los vehículos de difusión de estas ideas fue por medio del género magazine, en revistas orientadas a un público femenino, como Familia, que presentó múltiples discursos en torno al ideal corporal de la mujer. El trabajo analiza los discursos sobre el ejercicio físico que debe, o no, hacer el cuerpo femenino, expresado en artículos e imágenes de la revista Familia entre 1910 y 1915. Para ello, se discute tanto el contenido visual, fotografías e ilustraciones, como el material escrito, artículos y titulares.

This paper addresses the optimization of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) working time through the strategic positioning and grouping of cutting tools. Our analysis primarily focused on evaluating the previous arrangement of tools in the magazine and exploring the potential for repositioning them to enhance CNC operational efficiency. The work methodology is based on the collection of direct data from CNC as well as through CAD/CAM simulations. The collected data are analyzed with the Python programming language, which is one of the most used and efficient languages now. By grouping the tools according to the same function, tools were repositioned next to each other, which we obtained. After collecting the data and processing them in the Python programming language, we made a visualization of the data. Working time is reduced from 27.44 s to 26.46 s and results are analyzed in the Python Programming language. The working time is reduced by 0.98 s, which is approximately a 3.57% reduction in the working time. This indicates a significant improvement in efficiency due to the optimization of the cutting tool positions in the magazine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AbstractThis project responds to calls by scholars to interrogate how gender was depicted on the early commercial internet. More broadly, it examines how the idea of “users” was and is constructed in different times and places. Specifically, it examines images—advertisements, photos, and other illustrations—and how they depicted gender norms and user behaviors on the internet—in their “idealized” forms. Our study looks at how magazines, such as Internet World and Yahoo! Internet Life shaped internet culture from the beginning. They differed from webzines in their crossover appeal to women, men, power users, and casual fans. We utilize a close reading of these primary sources and deploy a feminist historical approach to help understand how these images were constructed and received. In this, we are inspired by Megan Sapnar Ankerson and Jesse Lingel, with their research on the early civilian internet. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The spread of the Internet has radically affected the world of media. As the main source of information in the 21st century, it inevitably became the new home of the media. This transition was not just a copy-paste of existing content: instead, the media had to change their content during this transformation. This analysis will identify these changes and observe what is being offered to audiences by online magazines. It will explore how the content of online magazines differs from what was offered to an audience in the 20th century. The object of analysis is the Kosovarja magazine, which has been published since 1971. This magazine is now only available online and the package of the Python programming language was used to extract the data necessary for this activity. In addition, the magazine Hylli i Dritës is used as a case study to explore the reasons why some magazines have not managed to be reproduced in the online market. In order to understand the audience's perception of these changes, a public opinion survey of 1,051 respondents was conducted for this study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Publishing is a significant part of the cultural, creative, and economic sectors. Its research, assessment, and forecasting require grounded, reliable, accurate, consistent, and comparable statistical data. Considering the lack of research in periodicals statistics and the relevance of publishing statistics, as well as the fact that in the Baltic countries, publishing statistics data are collected by institutions at the same level, the problem arises whether the national libraries' applied foundational recommendations and legal documents, as well as data collection methodology, can ensure data validity, reliability, comprehensiveness, and comparability. This article aims to examine and compare the data collection practices of periodical statistics in the Baltic States. The research object includes the legal foundation of publishing statistics in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, as well as the 2022 publishing statistics resources and official statistics data collections. UNESCO recommendations and International Organization for Standardization standards can be considered guidelines for such data collection and accounting. The legal foundation of publishing statistics consists of legal deposit laws, which must ensure the sources of statistical data. Even though publishing statistics data are collected by national libraries and the source of statistical data in all countries is legal deposits, the statistical data collections are not identical. Countries choose which data to collect, what criteria to apply, and in what form to present them. It is important to emphasize that data on the publishing industry are not presented in statistical collections, although their collection guidelines and presentation importance are highlighted in international recommendations and normative documents. Statistical data on electronic periodicals are provided only by Estonia. National libraries in the Baltic States are official statistics compilers, so summarized publishing statistics data are provided to national statistics institutions, opening new technological possibilities for data analysis and integration of new data. The collections of statistical data on newspapers and magazines can only be compared according to a few main criteria, as countries have chosen different statistical data presentation features, the main ones being the varying categorization and periodicity characteristics of newspapers and magazines. Both society and human beings are evolving at exponential speeds. Health and medicine are following the same path. Digital technology and data are turning our world upside down. Information is becoming ephemeral, shared, sometimes inaccurate, incorrect and fragmented, and knowledge is shifting, evolving and sometimes uncertain. However, medical journals are still a vital channel for the transmission, validation and discussion of medical knowledge. They are an essential pillar of the medical community, contributing to the continuous improvement of healthcare and scientific progress in the medical field. Medical journals are both drivers and vehicles for medical innovation. They must, however, evolve and adapt to changes in society, and reinvent themselves in the light of medical issues, those of healthcare professionals and patients, and even new medical trends and themes such as data, artificial intelligence, sustainable development, transhumanism and unique health.
