Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of prophylactic hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (P-HIPEC) in patients with locally advanced gastric cancer (AGC) after laparoscopic radical gastrectomy. Additionally, it explores how the frequency and timing of P-HIPEC influence treatment outcomes. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 227 patients with locally AGC who underwent laparoscopic surgery at Maoming People's Hospital from January 2016 to December 2022. Patients were stratified into the HIPEC group (n=101) and the non-HIPEC group (n=126), based on whether they received postoperative P-HIPEC. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to adjust for baseline characteristics, facilitating a comparative analysis of survival outcomes, postoperative complications and recurrence patterns. Cox regression analysis was performed to identify prognostic factors. Furthermore, the impact of varying P-HIPEC frequencies and initiation timings was evaluated. Results: No significant differences in overall survival (OS) or postoperative complication rates were observed between the two groups in the original and PSM cohorts. But the disease-free survival (DFS) of the HIPEC group was significantly higher than that of the non-HIPEC group (HR 0.569; 95% CI 0.362–0.894; p = 0.013) in the PSM cohort, with 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year DFS rates showing notable improvement (77.9% vs. 69.7%, 60.1% vs. 43.0%, and 46.2% vs. 25.5%). The incidence of isolated peritoneal metastasis (PM) was significantly lower in the HIPEC group (5.3% vs. 17.3%, p = 0.039). Multivariate Cox regression analysis identified P-HIPEC as an independent protective factor for DFS. Further analysis indicated that neither the number of P-HIPEC sessions had a significant impact on OS (p = 0.388) or DFS (p = 0.735), nor did the timing of P-HIPEC initiation affect OS (p = 0.620) or DFS (p = 0.488). Likewise, different P-HIPEC frequencies or initiation timings had no significant impact on postoperative complication rates or recurrence patterns. Conclusion: P-HIPEC effectively reduces the risk of postoperative PM and improves DFS in patients with locally AGC without increasing postoperative complications. However, it does not significantly impact OS. Additionally, variations in the frequency and timing of P-HIPEC initiation do not significantly affect survival outcomes, postoperative complications, or recurrence patterns. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Five novel manganese (I) tricarbonyl complexes were synthesized by the reaction of Mn (CO)5Br with quinoline‐2‐carboxaldehyde and different anilines. The IR, UV, and myoglobin results indicate that these complexes can be used as photoCORMs (photo photoinduced carbon monoxide releasing molecules) activated by red light. The visible range spectra display strong charge transfer (CT) bands, the maxima of which are sensitive to the ligand substituents. Density functional theory (DFT) and time‐dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) computations show that these CT transitions are admixtures of metal‐to‐ligand and aniline‐to‐quinoline charge transfers and that increasing the electron‐donating ability on the aniline functionality can lead to shifts in the absorption bands of the corresponding compounds to longer wavelengths and to enhanced band intensities, thus enhancing their photoactivity. Photolysis of these complexes in aerobic solution leads to CO photodissociation followed by oxidation of the Mn(I) center to Mn(II). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• Conducted high-speed impact tests on fiber metal laminates (FMLs) composed of titanium and UHMWPE within a velocity range of 915.7 – 1290.6 m per second. • The study detailed the transformation of damage modes in FMLs due to changes in velocity, particularly focusing on the primary failure modes of the fibers and the perforation and tearing patterns of the titanium alloy. • Established and validated a three-dimensional numerical model that was confirmed through a combination of theoretical analysis and experimental data, capable of accurately simulating the behavior of FMLs under high-speed impact. • Further explored the dynamic response and energy distribution mechanisms of FMLs. • Placing the metal layer at the back enhances energy absorption efficiency, but this configuration increases the degree of material bulging. Fiber-metal laminates (FMLs), known for their lightweight and high strength, are widely used in structural protection in the fields of shipbuilding, military, and aerospace. Experiments were conducted using 12.7 mm hard spherical projectiles at speeds ranging from 915.7 – 1290 6 m per second to study the high-speed impact on FMLs composed of titanium and Ultra-high Molecular Weight Polyethylene(UHMWPE). The primary failure modes of the fibers were tensile failure and compressive shear failure. With increasing impact velocity, the proportion of tensile failures in the fibers gradually decreased, transitioning to shear plug failure as the main failure mode, while the titanium alloy primarily experienced erosive perforation and petal-shaped tearing. At a speed of 1290 6 m/s, the titanium alloy began to exhibit significant adiabatic shear tearing in four directions. Further, a three-dimensional numerical model was established, which, through theoretical analysis and experimental validation, proved to be highly reliable. Using this theoretical model, a deeper analysis of the dynamic response and penetration mechanism of the structure was conducted, explaining the energy distribution mechanism and dynamic response mechanisms of various parts. Based on this model, improvements and optimizations were made to the laminar structure of the UHMWPE/titanium alloy FML.
