Introduction: This study aims to determine if intraoral 850 nm LED irradiation could reduce the duration of lower anterior crowding alignment. Methods: In a parallel-designed, randomized controlled clinical trial 60 patients with 2 to 6 mm of lower incisor crowding who need non-extraction treatment, were randomly assigned to the intervention and control groups by block randomization (36 females, 24 males, mean age: 19.93 ± 3.05). MBT brackets (0.022 × 0.28-inch) were bonded for both groups and the NiTi wires in sequences were put in place until correction of crowding. The intra-oral LED device with a wavelength of 850 nm and power density of 70 mW/cm2 was used for 5 min per day in the intervention group. The control group did not receive any light. The primary outcome was the duration of crowding correction. The patient's pain according the modified McGill pain questionnaire was the secondary outcome. The Cox regression model was used to compare groups. Mann–Whitney test was used for pain analysis. Results: The crowding at baseline was the same between the two groups (P > 0.05). Duration of treatment in the intervention group was 104.7 days (95% CI: 95.6 -113.8) and significantly shorter than 161.9 days (95% CI: 151.5 -171.2) in the control group. The control group experienced a significantly higher pain score of 6.8 (95% CI: 6.1–7.5) immediately after archwire placement than the intervention group 5.4 (95% CI: 4.6–6.3). Conclusions: Intra-oral LED 850 nm significantly decreased the relieving time of lower incisor crowding by up to 36% and reduced pain experience. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy stands as an innovative neurostimulation modality that has demonstrated both efficacy and safety in improving brain function. This therapy exerts multifaceted influences on neurons, blood vessels, and their intricate interplay known as neurovascular coupling (NVC). Growing evidence indicates that NVC may present a promising target for PBM intervention. However, the detailed mechanisms underlying its therapeutic benefits remain to be fully understood. This review aims to elucidate the potential metabolic pathways and signaling cascades involved in the modulatory effects of PBM, while also exploring the extensive repertoire of PBM applications in neurologic and psychiatric conditions. The prospects of PBM within the realm of NVC investigation are intensively considered, providing deeper insights into the powerful capabilities of PBM therapy and its potential to revolutionize neurostimulation treatments. Background: The use of low-level laser is a therapeutic resource that has been widely used in medicine in general, which has properties capable of modulating inflammatory effects such as pain, edema, and trismus resulting from oral surgeries for the extraction of impacted third molars. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of laser therapy at two different wave frequencies (660nm and 808nm) in patients undergoing impacted 3rd third lower molar extraction. For this, 30 patients were selected and randomly distributed into three groups with 10 individuals each (Control Group, 660nm Group, and 808nm Group)., Material and Methods: Each participant, according to their experimental group, received irradiation before the start of each surgery and immediately after the surgical procedure. The data regarding edema, pain intensity, and trismus collected before the surgeries, immediately after, and after seven days were spreadsheeted and analyzed to determine the mean and standard deviation. After the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, differences between the experimental groups were determined using Multiple Analyses of Variance, considering a significance level of 5% (p<0.05)., Results: The results showed no statistically significant difference between the experimental groups in the analyzed items. Despite this, both groups irradiated with 660nm and 808nm frequencies experienced a reduction in the perception of postoperative pain, thus suggesting the benefit of using low-power laser therapy as an adjunct in the surgical treatment of impacted lower third molars., Conclusions: Despite the results showing no differences between the groups, using LLLT resulted in lower pain perception in the irradiated participants compared to those in the control group. This fact supports the use of LLLT as an adjuvant therapy in patients undergoing oral surgery procedures to remove impacted third molars.

This review provides a comprehensive summary of the latest developments in acne management, exploring a range of topical, systemic, and procedural treatments. The mechanisms of action, pivotal trial data, and potential role in clinical practice are reviewed for emerging therapies such as 1726 nm laser, sarecycline, clascoterone, trifarotene, minocycline foam, and fixed-dose combination topicals.
