The development of effective catalysts for the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) is essential for transforming atmospheric CO2 into valuable chemical scaffolds. While numerous catalysts have been developed for the CO2RR, few are suitable for use in aqueous systems due to inherent design challenges. In this context, Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs) have emerged as promising materials for the CO2RR in water, offering potential solutions to these challenges. Thanks to their porosity, high surface area and crystalline structure, COFs are excellent hosts for single-atom catalysts (SACs), enabling the immobilization of high-value species and their utilization in heterogeneous catalytic processes. For this reason, we have explored the catalytic activity of a terpyridine–manganese complex integrated into a COF lattice, which was successfully synthesized and characterized, confirming the presence of the metal ion in the material with spectroscopic techniques such as XPS and EDS. This new material has proved to be an active heterogeneous catalyst for the CO2RR in water as solvent, achieving a faradaic yield of 42% for CO at 300 mV overpotential and 16% for formate when 600 mV was applied. Furthermore, an ab initio theoretical study was performed to provide a plausible mechanism of the CO2RR to elucidate the CO evolution pathway. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Patients with secondary acute myeloid leukemia who previously received hypomethylating agents for prior myeloid neoplasms (HMA‐sAML) face a dismal prognosis. Methods: The authors analyze the characteristics, therapeutic approaches, and outcomes of patients with HMA‐sAML from the Programa Español para el Tratamiento de Hemopatías Malignas (PETHEMA) registry. Results: A total of 479 patients were included, mostly from prior myelodysplastic syndrome (84%). Frontline therapy consisted of intensive chemotherapy (IC) in 31%, low‐dose cytarabine‐based in 19%, supportive care and clinical trial 17% each, and HMA‐based therapy in 12% and 4% in venetoclax‐based regimen. Complete remission was achieved in 95 patients (27%), with higher rate among IC and venetoclax‐based groups (44% and 41%, respectively). The median overall survival (OS) was 4.93 months, with 7.68 months for IC patients, 7.82 months after HMA monotherapy, and 4.66 months after venetoclax‐based regimens. Patients who underwent allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in first remission (n = 33, 9%) had a better survival outcome (median OS not reached). Multivariate analyses identified age (≥65 years), Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group >2, higher white blood cell count, and adverse risk cytogenetic as adverse prognostic factors, whereas NPM1 mutation was a favorable factor. Conclusions: Patients with HMA‐sAML have a poor prognosis and suboptimal outcomes with conventional treatments, including BCL2 inhibitors, highlighting the need for clinical trials targeting this population. Climate change-associated disturbances such as storms, wildfires, and pest outbreaks increasingly destabilize forest systems, threatening their ecological, economic, and social functions. These disruptions impact the forest value chain (FVC) by causing fluctuations in timber supply, from a quantity and quality perspective. This study employed the operational resilience framework (ORF) to assess FVC resilience in five European case studies (CZ, HR, DE, FIN, and ESP), focusing on timber supply as a key system variable. A resilience assessment was conducted using resilience thresholds, considering sustainability from both ecological and economic perspectives. Principal component analysis (PCA) identified three predictor groups that influenced FVC resilience: wood production (WP), harvesting systems (HS), and management and silviculture (MS). Findings revealed that regions with proactive management and sufficient processing capacities (CZ, HR, and ESP) maintained relative stability despite natural disturbances, while others (DE and FIN) experienced prolonged instability due to market-driven logging practices and limited adaptive measures. The study highlighted the frequent breaching of resilience thresholds, particularly during high-volume salvage logging following disturbances such as bark beetle outbreaks, windstorms, and wildfires. The results emphasized the importance of integrating adaptive and proactive strategies to mitigate these impacts. The ORF demonstrated potential for operationalizing FVC resilience and provided guidance for improving preparedness against future disturbances.

Cognitive changes associated with PASC may not be uniform across populations. We conducted individual-level pooled analyses and meta-analyses of cognitive assessments from eight prospective cohorts, comprising 2,105 patients and 1,432 controls from Argentina, Canada, Chile, Greece, India, Italy, Russia, and the UK. The meta-analysis found no differences by country of origin. The profile and severity of cognitive impairment varied by age, with mild attentional impairment observed in young and middle-aged adults, but memory, language, and executive function impairment in older adults. The risk of moderate to severe impairment doubled in older adults. Moderately severe or severe impairment was significantly associated with infection diagnoses (chi-square = 26.57, p ≤ 0.0001) and the severity of anosmia (chi-square = 31.81, p ≤ 0.0001). We found distinct age-related phenotypes of cognitive impairment in patients recovering from COVID-19. We identified the severity of acute illness and the presence of olfactory dysfunction as the primary predictors of dementia-like impairment in older adults.
