Objective: Attending college involves a stressful period of adaptation for many first-year college students. The aim of the current study was to better understand the relationship among maladaptive perfectionism, daily hassles, and depressive symptoms. Participants: The sample comprised 454 Chinese first-year college students. Methods: All participants completed a battery of questionnaires including the Almost Perfect Scale-Revised, the Chinese College Student Psychological Stress Scale, and the Beck Depression Inventory. Results: Conflicts with roommates, forming the bad habits, and difficulties in learning were the top three stressful daily hassles. Maladaptive perfectionism predicts daily hassles, which in turn predicts depressive symptoms. Conclusions: Maladaptive perfectionism asserts its effects on depressive symptoms of first-year college students experiencing minor events on a daily basis. Ambient pollen proteins play key roles in the incidence of allergenic respiratory health, and numerous reports have focused on respiratory diseases caused by air pollutants. However, there is still a lack of understanding of the specific mechanisms underlying the involvement of microbiota in the respiratory tracts and effects induced by air pollutants. Therefore, an allergenic animal model was established to investigate the characterization of microbials in the lung induced by allergenic Platanus pollen protein (Pla a3) and ambient fine particulate matter. Our data showed that the mice exhibited strong immune and inflammatory responses after being exposed to PMs and Pla a3 protein. This included increased levels of immunoglobulins IgG and IgE, as well as elevated levels of cytokines TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-4, and IL-13. Furthermore, the amounts of pathogenic bacteria, such as Desulfobacterota, Enterococcus, Ferruginibacter, and Pseudoxanthomonas, in the lung microbiota of the Pla a3 exposure group increased significantly. Correlation analysis revealed a strong association between specific lung bacteria and alterations in cytokines from the lung samples. Probiotic bacteria, Deferribacterota and Bifidobacterium, was associated with changes in the level of IgG and IgE. However, pathogenic bacteria, like Prevotella and Fusobacterium, were linked with the cytokines IL-4 and TNF-α. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Considering the traditional time-consuming synthesis route and diffusion-limited micropore system of SAPO-11 (i.e., SAPO-11W), a hydroxyl radical assisted method has been developed to prepare hierarchical SAPO-11 within 5 min (i.e., SAPO-11M). Compared to previous reports, the unique contribution is to induce hydroxyl radicals by exposing carbon materials to microwave irradiation in an oxygen-containing atmosphere. Carbon materials play a dual role as mesopore filler and hydroxyl radical initiator. When employed to prepare deoxygenation catalysts for stearic acids, a higher selectivity for C15–C18 and isomers is observed due to the mild acidity of SAPO-11M. The Lewis-rich acidity of SAPO-11M exhibits an electron deficiency to interact with the hydroxyl oxygen atoms and promotes the hydrodeoxygenation of stearic acids with excellent atom economy. These results are important for opening up a new prospect of synthesizing SAPO molecular sieves (e.g., SAPO-11 and SAPO-5) by an efficient and facile route. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a heterogeneous and aggressive disease characterized by a high risk of mortality and poor prognosis. It has been reported that Laminin γ2 (LAMC2) is highly expressed in a variety of tumors, and its high expression is correlated with cancer development and progression. However, the function and mechanism by which LAMC2 influences TNBC remain unclear. Methods: Kaplan–Meier survival analysis and Immunohistochemical (IHC) staining were used to examine the expression level of LAMC2 in TNBC. Subsequently, cell viability assay, wound healing and transwell assay were performed to detect the function of LAMC2 in cell proliferation and migration. A xenograft mouse model was used to assess tumorigenic function of LAMC2 in vivo. Luciferase reporter assay and western blot were performed to unravel the underlying mechanism. Results: In this study, we found that higher expression of LAMC2 significantly correlated with poor survival in the TNBC cohort. Functional characterization showed that LAMC2 promoted cell proliferation and migration capacity of TNBC cell lines via up-regulating CD44. Moreover, LAMC2 exerted oncogenic roles in TNBC through modulating the expression of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers. Luciferase reporter assay verified that LAMC2 targeted ZEB1 to promote its transcription. Interestingly, LAMC2 regulated cell migration in TNBC via STAT3 signaling pathway. Conclusion: LAMC2 targeted ZEB1 via activating CD44/STAT3 signaling pathway to promote TNBC proliferation and migration, suggesting that LAMC2 could be a potential therapeutic target in TNBC patients. Objective: To compare the effectiveness of robot-assisted (RA) minimally invasive surgery versus traditional fluoroscopy-assisted (FA) open posterior fixation surgery in treating thoracolumbar fractures with ankylosing spondylitis (AS)., Methods: A clinical data of 21 cases of thoracolumbar fractures with AS who met the selection criteria between December 2016 and December 2023 was retrospectively analyzed. Ten cases underwent RA minimally invasive surgery group (RA group) and 11 cases underwent FA open posterior fixation surgery (FA group). There was no significant difference in gender, age, fracture segment distribution, fracture type, time from injury to surgery, visual analogue scale (VAS) score, and American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) grading between RA group and FA group ( P >0.05). The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, radiation exposure time, radiation dose, hospital stay, and complications of the two groups were recorded. According to Gertzbein-Robbins criteria, the accuracy of screw implantation was evaluated by CT within 1 week after surgery. During follow-up, pain and nerve function were evaluated by VAS score and ASIA grading., Results: All patients underwent surgery successfully, and there was no significant difference in operation time ( P >0.05). The intraoperative blood loss and hospital stay in the RA group were significantly less than those in the FA group ( P <0.05), and the radiation exposure time and radiation dose were significantly more than those in the FA group ( P <0.05). A total of 249 pedicle screws were implanted in the two groups, including 118 in the RA group and 131 in the FA group. According to the Gertzbein-Robbins criteria, the proportion of clinically acceptable screws (grades A and B) in the RA group was significantly higher than that in the FA group ( P <0.05). Patients in both groups were followed up 3-12 months, with an average of 6.8 months. The VAS scores of the two groups after surgery were significantly lower than those before surgery, and the differences were significant ( P <0.05). The RA group had lower scores than the fluoroscopy group at 1 week and 3 months after surgery ( P <0.05). There was no significant difference in neurological function grading between groups at 1 week and 3 months after surgery ( P >0.05). In the FA group, 1 case of deep infection and 1 case of deep vein thrombosis of lower extremity occurred, while no complication occurred in the RA group, and there was no significant difference in the incidence of complications between groups ( P >0.05)., Conclusion: Both RA minimally invasive surgery and FA open posterior fixation surgery can achieve good effectiveness. Compared with the latter, the former has more advantages in terms of intraoperative blood loss, hospital stay, and accuracy of pedicle screw insertion.

Antimicrobial resistance represents a global health emergency, necessitating the introduction of novel antimicrobial agents. In the present study, lysozyme and holin from Shigella flexneri 1.1868 phage SGF2, named LysSGF2 and HolSGF2, respectively, were cloned, expressed, and characterized. LysSGF2 and HolSGF2 showed lytic activities against S. flexneri 1.1868 cells at 4-55 °C and pH 3.1-10.3. LysSGF2 exhibited antimicrobial activity against five gram-negative and two gram-positive bacteria. HolSGF2 showed antimicrobial activity against four gram-negative and one gram-positive species. The antibacterial activities of LysSGF2 and HolSGF2 were determined in liquid beverages, including bottled water and milk. The relative lytic activity of LysSGF2 combined with HolSGF2 against the tested bacteria was approximately 46-77 % in water. Furthermore, the combination markedly decreased the viable counts of tested bacteria by approximately 3-5 log CFU/mL. LysSGF2 and HolSGF2 could efficiently remove biofilms on polystyrene, glass, and stainless-steel. The efficacy of the LysSGF2 and HolSGF2 combination against the tested bacteria on polystyrene was 58-71 %. Combination treatment effectively killed biofilm cells formed on stainless-steel and glass by 1-4 log CFU/mL. ese results indicate that LysSGF2 and HolSGF2 can successfully control both the planktonic and biofilm cells of common pathogenic bacteria, suggesting that the combined or single use of LysSGF2 and HolSGF2 may be of great value in food processing., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest None., (Copyright © 2024.
