Polymer electrolyte is a crucial component of solid‐state‐lithium‐ion batteries that role both as separators and electrolytes. The host polymer and lithium salt selection are crucial for producing a solid polymer electrolyte with optimum characteristics. This research aims to study the effect of lithium acetate (LiCH3COO) salt on carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)‐based solid polymer electrolytes. The LiCH3COO‐complexed CMC solid polymer electrolyte was prepared using the solution casting method with various weight percentages of LiCH3COO, that is, 0%wt, 10%wt, 20%wt, and 30%wt. The ionic conductivity analysis was conducted by using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), infrared analysis by Fourier transform infra‐red (FTIR), mechanical analysis, crystallinity degree analysis with X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and thermogravimetry analysis (TGA), differential thermogravimetry (DTG), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The interaction between Li+ ions and CMC enhanced ionic conductivity, decreased mechanical strength, reduced crystallinity degree, and lowered thermal properties. The CMC/LiCH3COO (70/30) SPE was selected as the optimum condition because it exhibited good ionic conductivity and sufficient thermal stability, while it needs a mechanical strength improvement. Molecular dynamics simulations were also performed at the density‐functional tight‐binding (DFTB) level to unravel the molecular mechanism of the Li‐ion hopping in CMC. The CMC/LiCH3COO (70/30) showed the highest electrochemical window as high as 3.5 V. Based on the results, CMC complexed with 30 (%wt) LiCH3COO salt showed high potential as a polymer electrolyte for lithium‐ion battery applications. Among energy storage systems, lithium-ion and sodium-ion capacitors have recently gained increasing attention. However, the pre-metalation stage remains a challenge in constructing and further developing these capacitors for industrial application. In this article, we report on the system with acetate salts added to the electrolyte solution to facilitate the assembly of metal-ion capacitors in a one-step process. At a specific concentration, acetate anions underwent chemical reactions, providing the charge to balance the system and enabling the negative electrode to undergo complete insertion. Two- and three-electrode studies demonstrated the performance of the full cell as well as of each electrode. The lithium-ion and sodium-ion capacitors achieved energy values of 104 Wh kg−1 and 89 Wh kg−1 at power densities of 368 W kg−1 and 22 W kg−1, respectively. The reported systems surpassed 100 cycles of charging and discharging. Moreover, operando gas chromatography with mass spectrometry was employed to identify the gases generated during the acetate reaction, and no toxic gases were identified. It has also been demonstrated that the hybrid cell response depends on the reaction origin (within the pores of activated carbon or on the external electrode surface). However, the acetate anions effectively serve as electrolyte additives, enabling the one-step assembly of metal-ion capacitors. • Acetate anion demonstrates redox activity in aprotic medium. • Redox-active electrolyte allows for facilitated assembly of hybrid capacitor. • One-step pre-insertion is possible for various anode materials and metal ions. Paper-based assays have revolutionized POC diagnostics, offering significant values across diverse sectors due to their simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and portability. Detecting E. coli is critical for public health but faces challenges in traditional methods, prompting ongoing exploration of alternative approaches. To address the need for heightened sensitivity, this study introduces lithium acetate as a novel element in a paper-based E. coli detection assay, accompanying absorbance analysis using microplate readers. Utilization of lithium acetate as a lysis reagent and carrying out absorbance measurements in paper microtiter plates provide a significant stride in improving sensitivity and assay efficiency. The assay substantially reduced the analysis time to 4 hours with a lower quantification limit of 103 cfu/ml for detecting E. coli in pure cultures. The results suggest that the assay could determine 10 cfu/ml of E. coli in a contaminated milk sample with 4 hours of enrichment time. Thus, the study contributes towards improving E. coli detection with lower quantification limits and shorter analysis times. It is anticipated that the diagnostic methodology would circumvent the challenges in conventional E. coli detection methods, placing emphasis on absorbance analysis to achieve a streamlined, accurate, and rapid paper-based detection technique. Chelation of lithium with readily available α-hydroxy carboxylic acids is a sustainable recovery method from spent Li-ion battery wastes as well as a possible lithium extraction method. In this work pyrolytic decomposition of a series of selected lithium chelates of glycolic, lactic, malic and tartaric acid were studied and compared with lithium acetate as a potential lithium recovery method from chelates. In thermogravimetric analysis, the four α-hydroxy carboxylic acid chelates studied showed lower initial decomposition temperatures in the 313–356 °C range, in comparison to the lithium acetate with an initial decomposition temperature of 444 °C. The ease of decomposition of α-hydroxy carboxylic acid chelates may be due to their favorable decomposition pathways through dimerization and tetramerization of α-hydroxy acids via esterification and free radical coupling mechanisms leading to a complex mixtures of products; including alkenes, dienes and enones. The lithium α-hydroxy carboxylic acid chelate pyrolysis residue formed above 300 °C was identified as lithium carbonate and further heating above 700 °C, lithium carbonate decomposes to lithium oxide, allowing the recovery of lithium as Li 2 CO 3 or Li 2 O. • Pyrolysis of Li chelates of glycolic, lactic, malic and tartaric acids were studied. • Li-hydroxy acid chelates decomposes > 130 ºC lower than LiOAc, in air. • Li-hydroxy acid pyrolysis residue formed at 300 °C was identified as Li 2 CO 3. • Li 2 CO 3 decomposes to Li 2 O at 700 °C, allowing the recovery of Li as Li 2 CO 3 or Li 2 O. • Calorimetry and X-ray powder diffraction data for (Li,Na)acetate salts. • The Li 1- x Na x CH 3 COO phase diagram has a eutectic at x = 0.55. • Li 4 Na(CH 3 COO) 5 and LiNa 3 (CH 3 COO) 4 compounds give rise to peritectic reactions. • Quenched samples with x <0.55 are glasses that crystallize when heated. • Samples with x >0.55 are mixtures of glass and crystals. Anhydrous mixtures of lithium acetate and sodium acetate were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray powder diffraction. A tentative phase diagram is derived from these data. The Li 1- x Na x CH 3 COO system has a eutectic for the NaCH 3 COO molar fraction of x ≈ 0.55. The relatively low eutectic melting point at 448 K (175 ∘ C) may make this composition an interesting molten salt solvent. Peritectic reactions correspond to phases with compositions near Li 4 Na(CH 3 COO) 5 and LiNa 3 (CH 3 COO) 4. On the Li-rich side of the eutectic, the system, prepared as a glass, can crystallized deliberately. This allows checking the data validity with the first law of thermodynamics. The stability range of the supercooled liquid increases with x up to Li 0.55 Na 0.45 CH 3 COO. For higher sodium concentrations, the samples remain mixtures of glass and crystalline phases, with the amount of the vitreous component decreasing linearly from x = 0.45 to x = 1. The fragility of the liquid state, highest for pure LiCH 3 COO, decreases by a factor of two over the range 0 < x < 0.2 , and remains constant for higher x. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
