- Abstract
Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is the most common chronic hepatic disorder worldwide in both adults and children. It is well established that MASLD represents the hepatic manifestation of the metabolic syndrome whose definition includes the presence of obesity, type 2 diabetes (T2D), dyslipidemia, hypertension and hypercoagulability. All these conditions contribute to a chronic inflammatory status which may impact on blood brain barrier (BBB) integrity leading to an impaired function of central nervous system (CNS)., Aim of Review: Since the mechanisms underlying the brain-liver-gut axis derangement are still inconclusive, the present narrative review aims to make a roundup of the most recent studies regarding the cognitive decline in MASLD also highlighting possible therapeutic strategies to reach a holistic advantage for the patients., Key Scientific Concepts of Review: Due to its ever-growing prevalence, the MASLD-related mental dysfunction represents an enormous socio-economic burden since it largely impacts on the quality of life of patients as well as on their working productivity. Indeed, cognitive decline in MASLD translates in low concentration and processing speed, reduced memory, sleepiness but also anxiety and depression. Chronic systemic inflammation, hyperammonemia, genetic background and intestinal dysbiosis possibly contribute to the cognitive decline in MASLD patients. However, its diagnosis is still underestimated since the leading mechanisms are multi-faceted and unexplained and do not exist standardized diagnostic tools or cognitive test strategies. In this scenario, nutritional and lifestyle interventions as well as intestinal microbiota manipulation (probiotics, fecal transplantation) may represent new approaches to counteract mental impairment in these subjects. 4. Perturbations in Microbial Communities at Hydrothermal Vents of Panarea Island (Aeolian Islands, Italy).

- Abstract
Marine hydrothermal ecosystems represent extreme environments connected to submarine volcanic areas characterized by vents, having high temperatures and particular chemical compositions. The hydrothermal marine system of Panarea, located in one of the seven small islands belonging to the Aeolian Archipelago (southern Tyrrhenian Sea), is characterized by a range of vents exhibiting diverse physical and chemical conditions. We aimed to analyze the microbial community of a peculiar hot spring belonging to the Panarea hydrothermal field, known as "Black Point" (BP), in two separate sampling expeditions (May and August). Our results demonstrated that the chemical-physical variations within this hydrothermal vent, such as temperature fluctuations, mineral content, and hydrothermal fluid dynamics, play a role in shaping the structure and diversity of microbial communities. The differences between the two sampling expeditions suggest that seasonal changes, i.e., in temperature, pH, and redox potential (Eh), could drive microbial community shifts over time.

- Abstract
Background and objectives : Due to the regeneration potential of growth factors (GFs) and platelet concentrates (PCs), facial rejuvenation has been a major area of attention in esthetic medicine. The effectiveness and safety of PCs and GFs in promoting face rejuvenation are examined in this systematic review, which is complemented by a case series. GFs are essential for collagen production and dermal matrix remodeling, while PCs, like Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), are abundant in bioactive chemicals that promote tissue healing and cellular regeneration. Materials and Methods : A comprehensive literature search was performed on PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus, focusing on human clinical trials published between February 2019 and February 2024 related to PRP and facial esthetics. Results : Thirteen studies met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed. Conclusions : The review summarizes the most recent data on patient outcomes, treatment regimens, and possible hazards. The case series that goes with it shows real-world examples of how to improve skin elasticity, texture, and general facial appearance with little negative side effects. These results highlight the potential use of PCs and GFs as minimally invasive procedures.

6. Gestational Weight Gain and Neonatal Biometry during the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Multicenter Observational Cohort.

- Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to test the hypothesis that being pregnant and delivering during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic was associated with changes in gestational weight gain (GWG) or frequency of small- (SGA) or large-for-gestational-age (LGA) neonates., Study Design: Secondary analysis of a multicenter observational cohort comparing pregnant people who delivered during the COVID-19 pandemic (June-December 2020) to people who delivered prior to the pandemic (March-December 2019). Those with multiple gestations, fetuses with major congenital anomalies, implausible GWG values, unavailable body mass index (BMI), or who were severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2-positive were excluded. The primary outcome was frequency of optimal recommended GWG based on prepregnancy BMI. Neonatal outcomes included birth weight, ponderal index, and frequency of SGA, LGA, and small head circumference for live births. Multivariable regression analysis was used to assess associations between exposure to the pandemic and outcomes., Results: A total of 10,717 pregnant people were included in our analysis. A total of 4,225 pregnant people were exposed to the pandemic and 6,492 pregnant people delivered prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Pregnant people exposed to the pandemic were older and more likely to have gestational diabetes. The frequency of appropriate GWG was 28.0% during the pandemic and 27.6% before the pandemic (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]: 1.02, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.93-1.11). Excessive GWG was more likely (54.9 vs. 53.1%; aOR: 1.08, 95% CI: 1.001-1.17), and inadequate GWG was less likely during the pandemic (17.0 vs. 19.3%; aOR: 0.86, 95% CI: 0.77-0.95). The frequency of SGA was 5.4% during the pandemic and 6.1% before the pandemic (aOR: 0.90, 95% CI: 0.76-1.06), and the frequency of LGA was 16.0% during the pandemic versus 15.0% before the pandemic (aOR: 1.06, 95% CI: 0.95-1.18). Other neonatal outcomes including birth weight percentile (62.1 [35.8-83.2] vs. 60.2 [34.4-82.2]; adjusted mean difference (aMD) = 1.50, 95% CI: -0.28 to 3.29), ponderal index (2.6 g/cm

- Abstract
The aim of this retrospective multicentric case series is to describe the CT findings of ovarian neoplasia in dogs. Twenty dogs with pre- and postcontrast CT exams and cytological/histological diagnosis of ovarian neoplasia were included. Five dogs presented with bilateral tumors, for a total of 25 neoplasms: 15 carcinomas (4 bilateral), 4 granulosa cell tumors, 2 poorly differentiated malignant neoplasia (bilateral), 2 luteomas, 1 teratoma, 1 dysgerminoma. In two dogs, the tumor developed from an ovarian remnant. Ovarian tumors showed variable size, lobulated shape, and precontrast heterogenous appearance. Mineral foci and/or fat components were rare, observed in teratoma, granulosa cell tumors (2), and ovarian carcinoma. Tumor type was not found to be associated with any CT features. Larger masses were more likely located in the central abdomen ventral to the ipsilateral kidney, demonstrated signs of tumor rupture, and were associated with abdominal or sternal lymphadenopathy and peritoneal effusion. A tortuous ovarian artery was constantly detectable, associated with an enlarged gonadal vein (12 cases). Related cavitary changes were peritoneal effusion (14 dogs) and sternal lymphadenopathy (7 dogs). Presumed or confirmed metastasis was reported in 9 of 20 cases, with CT evidence of transcoelomic (serosal thickening, peritoneal nodules, omental cake, implant lesions to the liver, spleen, and diaphragm), lymphatic and hematogenous spread (lungs, liver, bone, muscles, and spleen). In conclusion, the present study reports the CT features of different canine ovarian neoplasia. A tortuous ovarian artery may be useful to consistently recognize the ovarian origin of a large abdominal mass., (© 2024 The Author(s).
