Abstract Anthropogenic climate warming is predicted to increase the intensity of global tropical cyclones (TCs) on decadal timescales, known as the ‘temperature-TC intensity’ paradigm. However, no proxy is currently available to directly quantify TC intensity in the northwestern Pacific region over centennial to millennial timescales. Here, we reconstruct the intensity of past TCs inferred from event-beds detected in two sedimentary systems in eastern China spanning approximately 1910 to 645 yr BP using an instrumental-calibrated technique, thereby encompassing a sufficiently wide range of temperatures to test the paradigm in the time domain. Intriguingly, our two intensity indices, based on flooding depth and wind speed, provide the initial quantitative evidence that TC intensity in eastern China has been anomalously weak since around 1485 ± 45 yr BP, with a reduction of approximately 30 ± 8% in intensity, despite no concurrent temperature shift. This reduction appears to have been pre-conditioned by a combined influence of a weaker El Niño-Southern Oscillation, a stronger Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, and an increased level of Saharan dust. We suggest that the magnitudes of these factors may have crossed a tipping point and have not reverted to their pre-shift levels since that time, resulting in their impact on TC intensity exceeding that of temperature by triggering changes in the oceanic and atmospheric state within the tropical Pacific region where TCs originate.

The main focus of studying sediment sources in marine areas is to determine the properties of clastic minerals originating from different rivers. Variations in the characteristics of clastic minerals occur due to differences in the types of source rocks within the watershed. Determining the source rock of clastic minerals in the marine area can improve the accuracy of provenance analysis. Electron probe microanalysis of 258 amphibole grains from six surface stations in the South Yellow Sea (SYS) was conducted to calculate the numerical and characteristic values of cations in the crystal structure. The results showed that amphibole in the SYS is mainly magnesiohornblende (52.2% ~ 81.4%) in the calcic amphibole subgroup, followed by tschermakite. The source rock types of amphibole are mainly different types of magmatic (ultrabasic, basic, and intermediate acidic) and metamorphic rocks. Amphibole derived from intermediate-acid intrusive rocks accounts for a large proportion (>40%). The genetic analysis of clastic amphibole in the SYS showed that most of the medium-acid invading amphibole belong to crust-mantle type, followed by mantle type. Most of the amphibole from metamorphic origins are of medium-low pressure type (± 80%). Combined with electron probe analysis of amphibole from the Huanghe River (the Yellow River, HH) and Changjiang River (the Yangtze River, CJ), the amphibole in the SYS exhibits characteristics inherited from these two rivers. The northern sea area has a strong resemblance to the sediments from the HH, while the southern area is more influenced by sediments supply from the CJ. The central area represents a mixed zone with a higher sediment supply from the HH. The clastic amphibole deduces the type of source rock in different watersheds, serving as a crucial link between the source rock, watershed, and marine area, providing a basis for provenance analysis.

Typhoon-induced storms surges and river flooding events represent two types of natural disasters that affect a wide range, occurring with high frequency and causing serious societal losses. Due to the limited duration of instrumental records, there is an inadequate understanding of the patterns and mechanisms underlying the variations in typhoons and floods. The interpretation of sedimentary records aptly compensates for these deficiencies in terms of the temporal scale, becoming a crucial medium for extending the temporal span of typhoon and flood records. Previous studies in this field have primarily focused on the identification of single types of extreme events. The Changjiang Estuary, particularly Chongming Island, is significantly affected by both typhoons and river floods, making it an excellent area for synchronous comparative studies of these two types of extreme events. Based on the analysis of a core sample, ZP02, collected from Chongming Island, in terms of chronological, sedimentological, and geochemical characteristics, specific tracing fingerprints for event deposits from typhoon and flood events are established. Sediments from typhoon events generally exhibit erosive contact surfaces, coarser grain sizes, and a tendency to become finer upwards, often featuring layers mixed with coarse sand and shell fragments. In contrast, flood event deposits vary in grain size, either coarser or finer, with abrupt contact surfaces compared to normal sediment layers, and are predominantly brownish-yellow in color. The fingerprint tracing results indicate that the typhoon event layers are characterized by high values in principal component 2 (PC2) of the elements, Zr/Fe and Sr/Fe ratios, with low values in principal component 1 (PC1) the elements and Ti/Ca ratio. Flood event deposits are marked by high values in PC1 and Ti/Ca ratio, low values in PC2 and Sr/Fe ratio, and an increase in Zr/Fe ratio in coarser flood layers but no significant change in finer layers. Based on these fingerprints, 19 layers of typhoon and the same number of flood events were identified in core ZP02, which correspond well with documentary records. The establishment of tracing fingerprints for typhoon and flood event deposits provides methodological support for the identification and interpretation of various extreme event deposits.

With sea level rise (SLR), tidal nuisance flooding has become a growing threat, especially around estuaries with large tidal amplitudes. This study investigated how sea level change affects tides in Hangzhou Bay, a macro-tidal estuary with high SLR rate. By downscaling climate projections to a regional hydrodynamic model, the amplitude of primary tidal constituent (M2) was predicted to increase by 0.25 m in the upper bay, where the amplitude of major diurnal tide (K1) was also predicted to increase by 15%. In addition, the sensitivity of tidal amplitude to mean sea level was examined by a set of numerical simulations with different SLR. It was found that the increase of tidal amplitude is nonlinear to SLR, and the tidal amplitudes almost cease to increase when SLR is over 1.5 m. Although predictions show less amplitude changes in the lower bay, Zhoushan Archipelago around the bay mouth strongly modulates the incoming tidal energy, thus affecting the tidal amplitude in the upper bay. Energy budget analysis revealed that the complex topography, such as narrow channels, in the archipelago area leads to strong horizontal shear, which dissipates approximately 25% of total tidal energy in the bay. On the other hand, around 60% of the energy is dissipated in the bottom boundary layer. However, the bottom dissipation decreases by 4% due to reduced friction, while horizontal dissipation increases by 10% due to enhanced horizontal shear with SLR. This suggests that the strong horizontal shear in the Zhoushan archipelago region can play a more important role in the tidal energy budget in the future.

The gravitational wave spacecraft is a complex multi-input multi-output dynamic system. The gravitational wave detection mission requires the spacecraft to achieve single spacecraft with two laser links and high-precision control. Establishing one spacecraftwith two laser links, compared to one spacecraft with a single laser link, requires an upgraded decoupling algorithmfor the link establishment. The decoupling algorithmwe designed reassigns the degrees of freedomand forces in the control loop to ensure sufficient degrees of freedomfor optical axis control. In addressing the distinct dynamic characteristics of different degrees of freedom, a transfer function compensation method is used in the decoupling process to furtherminimizemotion coupling. The open-loop frequency response of the systemis obtained through simulation. The upgraded decoupling algorithms effectively reduce the open-loop frequency response by 30 dB. This practice guideline focuses on the cognitive assessment for mild cognitive impairment in the Guangdong‐Hong Kong‐Macao Greater Bay Area. To achieve the standardization and normalization of its clinical practice and generate individualized intervention, the National Core Cognitive Center of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, the Cognitive Disorders Branch of Chinese Geriatic Society, the Dementia Group of Neurology Branch of Guangdong Medical Association and specialists from Hong Kong and Macao developed guidelines based on China's actual conditions and efficiency, economic cost and accuracy. Hetaoyu well field has large production capacity and stable distribution of coal seam， The thick sandstone aquifer of Luohe Formation in the roof of coal seam is the main water-filling aquifer which will result in coal seam roof water damage and threatening the safety of mine production with the deepening of mining degree when the water-conducting fissure zone leads to the water-rich area of the overlying aquife. It is necessary for the safety mining of coal mine to find out the law of water-rich distribution of aquifer, because water richness evaluation of coal seam roof aquifer is the basis of water hazard prevention and control. In order to evaluate the water richness of Luohe Formation aquifer in the first mining area of the Hetaoyu well field, six indexes including aquifer thickness, collecting rate of drill core, thickness ratio of brittle-plasticity, washing liquid consumption, permeability coefficient, unit water inflow were selected as evaluation factors by analyzing borehole data and other well field data in the study area. Combination Weighting Method is used to carry out the index weight comprehensively based on Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and CRITIC method，and the comprehensive weights of each index were 0.1707, 0.2078, 0.0976, 0.1171, 0.1465 and 0.2603, respectively. Using the FDAHP-Independent weight coefficient method, the weights of the four main controlling factors, such as aquifer thickness, core extraction rate, thickness ratio of brittle plastic rock and wash fluid consumption, are 0.1675, 0.312, 0.2575 and 0.263, respectively. A method of aquifer water-richness evaluation index model based on the combination weighting method was proposed, and zonation of water-richness zoning was made for seam roof Luohe Formation aquifer. The results show that the water richness distribution of the Luohe Formation aquifer in the roof of coal seam in the first mining area of Hetaoyu is uneven，which is obviously different from the distribution of each single index. The relatively weak and relatively weak water-rich areas are located in the eastern part of the study area, the middle part has medium water-rich water, and the strong water-rich areas are located in the central and western parts of the study area respectively. There are large areas of relatively strong water-richness in the central and western areas. It is necessary to pay attention to the strong water-richness in the western areas and local strong water richness points and do well in water exploration and release in advance.

This study marks the first occasion that Streptococcus iniae has been isolated, identified, and characterized as the causative pathogen in spotted sea bass (Lateolabrax maculates). Infected fish exhibited a range of external symptoms, including scale loss, bleeding from the jaw, anus, and tail, among other signs, as well as internal manifestations such as congested liver, splenomegaly, branchial anemia, yellow fat syndrome, and intestinal edema. Notably, exophthalmia and meningoencephalitis—typical symptoms associated with previous S. iniae infections—were not observed. A predominant bacterial isolate (designated 10S01) was recovered from the pure culture of spleen of a diseased spotted sea bass in Zhuhai, China. The strain was then subjected to Gram staining, biochemical profiling, and molecular confirmation through 16S rRNA and gyrB gene, corroborating its identity as S. iniae. Pathogenicity was assessed by intraperitoneal injection challenge in spotted sea bass weighing approximately 13 g/fish, revealing a LD50 of 74 cfu/g-fish. The 10S01 strain demonstrated the ability to colonize various organs, including the spleen, liver, kidney, and brain, with a relatively higher affinity for the spleen. Furthermore, antimicrobial susceptibility testing indicated that the 10S01 strain was sensitive to 14 tested antibiotics, particularly chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, clarithromycin, florfenicol, ofloxacin, rifampicin, and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, highlighting these as preferred treatments for S. iniae infections in spotted sea bass. These findings contribute significantly to our understanding of S. iniae pathogenesis and inform the prompt and appropriate antibiotic treatment of S. iniae infections.

In this article, we study a predator–prey system, which includes impulsive stocking prey and a nonlinear harvesting predator at different moments. Firstly, we derive a sufficient condition of the global asymptotical stability of the predator–extinction periodic solution utilizing the comparison theorem of the impulsive differential equations and the Floquet theory. Secondly, the condition, which is to maintain the permanence of the system, is derived. Finally, some numerical simulations are displayed to examine our theoretical results and research the effect of several important parameters for the investigated system, which shows that the period of the impulse control and impulsive perturbations of the stocking prey and nonlinear harvesting predator have a significant impact on the behavioral dynamics of the system. The results of this paper give a reliable tactical basis for actual biological resource management.

Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) is a foodborne pathogen that causes listeriosis in humans and other animals. Surface proteins with the LPXTG motif have important roles in the virulence of L. monocytogenes. Lmo0159 is one such protein, but little is known about its role in L. monocytogenes virulence, motility, and biofilm formation. Here, we constructed and characterized a deletion mutant of lmo0159 (∆lmo0159). We analyzed not only the capacity of biofilm formation, motility, attachment, and intracellular growth in different cell types but also LD50; bacterial load in mice’s liver, spleen, and brain; expression of virulence genes; and survival time of mice after challenge. The results showed that the cross-linking density of the biofilm of ∆lmo0159 strain was lower than that of WT by microscopic examination. The expression of biofilm-formation and virulence genes also decreased in the biofilm state. Subsequently, the growth and motility of ∆lmo0159 in the culture medium were enhanced. Conversely, the growth and motility of L. monocytogenes were attenuated by ∆lmo0159 at both the cellular and mouse levels. At the cellular level, ∆lmo0159 reduced plaque size; accelerated scratch healing; and attenuated the efficiency of adhesion, invasion, and intracellular proliferation in swine intestinal epithelial cells (SIEC), RAW264.7, mouse-brain microvascular endothelial cells (mBMEC), and human-brain microvascular endothelial cells (hCMEC/D3). The expression of virulence genes was also inhibited. At the mouse level, the LD50 of the ∆lmo0159 strain was 100.97 times higher than that of the WT strain. The bacterial load of the ∆lmo0159 strain in the liver and spleen was lower than that of the WT strain. In a mouse model of intraperitoneal infection, the deletion of the lmo0159 gene significantly prolonged the survival time of the mice, suggesting that the lmo0159 deletion mutant also exhibited reduced virulence. Thus, our study identified lmo0159 as a novel virulence factor among L. monocytogenes LPXTG proteins.

An active sub-cooler refrigerant injection (ASCRI) based on low-grade heat source was proposed. This injection method can convert the external heat source into heating capacity (Qh) in the form of refrigerant injection enthalpy difference, thus greatly increasing the Qh and solving the problem that the heat pump with conventional refrigerant injection (CSCRI) cannot be applied in extremely cold areas. The thermodynamic model has been built to calculate the heat pump performance (HPP) parameters and determine the influence factors. The HPP and injection characteristic of CSCRI and ASCRI were comparatively tested. Experimental results show that effects of ASCRI on improving the performance were better than those of the CSCRI. At low ambient temperature, the maximum Qh/coefficient of performance (COP) of the heat pump with CSCRI and ASCRI were 6611 W/2.33 and 7730 W/2.49, 17.8 %/11.5 % and 37.7 %/19.1 % higher than those of the none-injection heat pump, respectively. The bandwidth characteristic of the ASCRI was superior to that of the CSCRI. For the Qh/COP, the effective bandwidth scopes of the sub-cooling electronic expansion valve with CSCRI and ASCRI account for 8 %/2 % and 75 %/60 % of total opening range, respectively.

In recent years, significant advancements have been made in endovascular therapy for aortic dissection, resulting in the development of various treatment methods. Nevertheless, there is a contentious discussion regarding the suitability of different treatment methods for addressing the unique features of individual lesions. Specifically, the matter of whether the presence of small intimal tears or multiple distal tears requires extensive aortic coverage with graft stents, which may block the blood supply to important organs, intercostal arteries, or lumbar arteries, remains unresolved. Further research is necessary to determine the need for complex fenestrated or branched endovascular aortic repair (F/B-EVAR) in the management of chronic post-dissection aneurysms involving visceral arteries. Our report highlights the successful endovascular repair of three patients with aortic dissection, encompassing one Stanford A type and two Stanford B types. Utilizing the Amplatzer Vascular Plug (AVP) alone or in combination with the coil embolization technique, we achieved favorable clinical outcomes. This article aims to provide valuable insights and new perspectives on the tailored management of aortic dissection by conducting a comprehensive examination of the subtle differences in the treatment processes and techniques applied to these three patients.

While nanoporous graphene oxide (GO) is recognized as one of the most promising reverse osmosis desalination membranes, limited attention has been paid to controlling desalination performance through the large GO pores, primarily due to significant ion leakage resulting in the suboptimal performance of these pores. In this study, we employed a molecular dynamics simulation approach to demonstrate that Mg2+ ions, adhered to carboxylated GO nanopores, can function as gates, regulating the transport of ions (Na+ and Cl−) through the porous GO membrane. Specifically, the presence of divalent cations near a nanopore reduces the concentration of salt ions in the vicinity of the pore and prolongs their permeation time across the pore. This subsequently leads to a notable enhancement in salt rejection rates. Additionally, the ion rejection rate increases with more adsorbed Mg2+ ions. However, the presence of the adsorbed Mg2+ ions compromises water transport. Here, we also elucidate the impact of graphene oxidation degree on desalination. Furthermore, we design an optimal combination of adsorbed Mg2+ ion quantity and oxidation degree to achieve high water flux and salt rejection rates. This work provides valuable insights for developing new nanoporous graphene oxide membranes for controlled water desalination.
