Abstract Objectives The main objective of the study was to explore the perspectives of healthcare professionals (HCPs) regarding artificial intelligence (AI) and to identify challenges in its incorporation in the healthcare sector of Pakistan. Methods A qualitative exploratory study design was adopted. The study was conducted from January 15th to February 29th, 2024, and HCPs (doctors, pharmacists and nurses) from two tertiary care teaching hospitals in southern Punjab, Pakistan were taken as the study population. The interviews were conducted with the help of a semi structured interview schema. A thematic approach was adopted to analyse the data. Results Out of 40 HCPs approached, 25 participated in the study with a response rate of 62%. The participants included in the study were doctors (14), pharmacists (6) and nurses (5). The participants had limited knowledge regarding AI and its basics. However, they showed positive perceptions about its incorporation. They believed that many of the problems faced by the healthcare sector of Pakistan can be minimized by AI incorporation. They believed that AI can boost up the efficiency of healthcare providers, reduce their workload, save time and minimize medical errors. Four main themes with multiple subthemes were identified: (1) Cognizance of AI, (2) Acceptability of AI among HCPs and training requirements for effective incorporation, (3) Merits and Demerits of AI, and (4) Challenges in incorporation of AI with proposed solutions. Conclusion HCPs showed a willingness to embrace AI incorporation and believed that it may bring numerous benefits to the health system. Policymakers should take necessary steps to ensure AI incorporation in our healthcare sector.

The optimization of the pyrolysis of the spruce sawdust was conducted based on the yield, textural properties, and static capture capacity of the chars to generate a new micro porous char for biogas upgrade. The nature of the precursor (C: 45.68 %, H: 6.08 %, N: 0.15 %, and 0.34 % ash content) helped to tune the porosity of the char for capturing CO2 from gas streams and biogas. The optimization of the pyrolysis at 700 °C, a heating rate of 10 °C / min and holding time of 1 hour, produced a microporous char with high yield, CO2 capture capacity and CO2/CH4 selectivity. The presence of the oxygen and nitrogen-containing functional groups in the optimum char help in the selective capture of CO2. The static CO2 capture capacity of the optimum char was 1.98 mmol/g at atmospheric pressure and 25 °C (90 % CO2 stream). The CSD (700−10−60) have capture capacity of 1.50 mmol/g (at a feed gas stream of 50 % CO2 and adsorption temperature of 25 °C and 120 kPa) which is equivalent to Norit C and Calgon BPL. Hence, spruce sawdust can be used to produce efficient biochar for biogas upgrade (CO2 capture) owing to high capture capacity and CO2/CH4 selectivity (around 3) and easy regeneration of the biochar for 10 consecutive cycles.

The humongous increase in carbon emissions in the past few decades presents an environmental challenge to the scientific community. The current study proposes a method of taxation on high-carbon emission fuels. For this purpose, a comparative enviro-economic analysis is carried out on the three most commonly used fuels (gasoline, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)). The speed of the test engine varied from 1800 to 4200 Revolution per Minute (RPM) in increments of 400 RPM. Performance parameters (Brake Power (BP), Brake Thermal Efficiency (BTHE), and Brake Specific Fuel Consumption (BSFC)) were measured using a hydro dynamometer. Emission analysis, including Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Unburned Hydrocarbons (HC), and Nitrogen Oxide (NOx), was conducted using the TESTO 350 analyzer. The application of Weibull distribution with a 95 % confidence interval, on emission data, explained the adequacy of the data. Among test fuels, CNG emerged as an environment-friendly fuel with an emission reduction of 16, 42, and 43 percent for CO2, CO, and HC in comparison to gasoline. Also, BTHE and BSFC of CNG were better than other alternatives. Moreover, the carbon penalty for CNG fuel showed a price reduction of 32 and 20.8 percent in comparison to gasoline and LPG respectively. The study provides a novel approach to assess the environmental impact of fuels by economic analysis based on emitted carbon quantity. In addition, this very idea is novel in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations (UN) through carbon taxation.
