Effective water chemistry technology can inhibit the radiolysis of primary coolants and material corrosion in pressurized water reactors (PWRs). Research and operational experience suggest that methanol is a potential additive for the coolant transformation of PWRs. However, due to a lack of comprehensive understanding regarding the behavior and mechanism of methanol radiolysis in primary circuit scenarios, supporting methanol-based water chemistry control is challenging. This study initially outlines the importance of methanol radiolysis. It then summarizes global research progress on methanol radiolysis and its aqueous solution. Additionally, it discusses the yield of methanol radiolysis products and free-radical reactions at room temperature, as well as the radiolysis of methanol aqueous solutions under primary circuit conditions and its impact on material corrosion, are then discussed in detail. Finally, the study offers suggestions for future research on the radiolysis of methanol aqueous solutions.

With the rapid emergence of antibiotic‐resistant pathogens, nanomaterial‐assisted catalytic sterilization has been well developed to combat pathogenic bacteria by elevating the level of reactive oxygen species including hydroxyl radical (·OH). Although promising, the ultra‐short lifetime and limited diffusion distance of ·OH severely limit their practical antibacterial usage. Herein, the rational design and preparation of novel virus‐like copper silicate hollow spheres (CSHSs) are reported, as well as their applications as robust artificial bacteriophages for localized bacterial capture and enhanced catalytic sterilization in the treatment of oral infectious diseases. During the whole process of capture and killing, CSHSs can efficiently capture bacteria via shortening the distance between bacteria and CSHSs, produce massive ·OH around bacteria, and further iinducing the admirable effect of bacterial inhibition. By using mucosal infection and periodontitis as typical oral infectious diseases, it is easily found that the bacterial populations around lesions in animals after antibacterial treatment fall sharply, as well as the well‐developed nanosystem can decrease the inflammatory reaction and promote the hard or soft tissue repair. Together, the high Fenton‐like catalytic activity, strong bacterial affinity, excellent antibacterial activity, and overall safety of the nanoplatform promise its great therapeutic potential for further catalytic bacterial disinfection. Endosomal single-stranded RNA-sensing Toll-like receptor-7/8 (TLR7/8) plays a pivotal role in inflammation and immune responses and autoimmune diseases. However, the mechanisms underlying the initiation of the TLR7/8-mediated autoimmune signaling remain to be fully elucidated. Here, we demonstrate that miR-574-5p is aberrantly upregulated in tissues of lupus prone mice and in the plasma of lupus patients, with its expression levels correlating with the disease activity. miR-574-5p binds to and activates human hTLR8 or its murine ortholog mTlr7 to elicit a series of MyD88-dependent immune and inflammatory responses. These responses include the overproduction of cytokines and interferons, the activation of STAT1 signaling and B lymphocytes, and the production of autoantigens. In a transgenic mouse model, the induction of miR-574-5p overexpression is associated with increased secretion of antinuclear and anti-dsDNA antibodies, increased IgG and C3 deposit in the kidney, elevated expression of inflammatory genes in the spleen. In lupus-prone mice, lentivirus-mediated silencing of miR-574-5p significantly ameliorates major symptoms associated with lupus and lupus nephritis. Collectively, these results suggest that the miR-574-5p-hTLR8/mTlr7 signaling is an important axis of immune and inflammatory responses, contributing significantly to the development of lupus and lupus nephritis. Background: Serum tumor markers (STMs) are recommended for cancer diagnosis and surveillance. However, their role in lung cancer with brain metastases (BM) is not yet clear. We aim to analyze the roles of baseline levels of STMs or ongoing STM surveillance on survival., Methods: This retrospective longitudinal cohort study included 1,169 lung cancer patients with BM. The STM data during disease course were collected. Distinct trajectory groups were identified using the latent class growth mixed model (LCGMM). The roles of STMs on survival were further analyzed using Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox proportional hazard models., Results: Serum levels of cytokeratin-19 fragment (CYFRA21-1) (P<0.001), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) (P=0.005) and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) (P<0.001) at baseline exhibited significant correlation with overall survival (OS) of patients with BM, serving as independent prognostic factors. Further analysis indicated that baseline CYFRA21-1, CEA, NSE as well as status of key driver genes were independent prognostic factors in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with BM, while for small cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients with BM, baseline NSE and receiving chemotherapy show independent correlations with survival. Furthermore, we delineated the dynamic trajectories of STMs based on changes in disease course. More specifically, compared to those showing a baseline-high trend in CEA levels, the survival of patients with either persistently-rising or consistently normal levels seemed to be more promising. For CYFRA21-1, both early-rising and later-rising trends were observed, indicating a prognosis inferior to that of individuals with normal-level trajectory. Likewise, for NSE, patients with persistently-rising or persistently-descending trends showed no significantly survival difference. However, in comparison with the status of driver genes, receiving radiotherapy and targeted therapy, the dynamic changes in STM levels lacked independent prognostic significance. Further analysis indicated that among BM patients lacking key driver genes, NSE trajectory (P<0.05), CYFRA21-1 trajectory (P<0.05) and receiving chemotherapy (P<0.001) were independent prognostic factors., Conclusions: Baseline levels of serum CYFRA21-1, CEA and NSE, as well as status of key driver genes are recommended for evaluating BM patients' outcome. Background: Cold agglutinins (CAs) in blood samples can cause a reversible agglutination of red blood cell (RBC) which result in an incorrect complete blood count (CBC). So, it is important to explore new simple and feasible treatment conditions for clinical work., Methods: The CAs group included 32 samples with CAs. The parameters of CBC at room temperature or after prewarming at 37°C or 41°C for different time periods were compared. The consistency and correlation of those parameters were analyzed. The morphology of erythrocytes in the CAs group was observed manually. The control group included 45 samples without CAs and prewarmed at 37°C or 41°C for different time periods. The differences were also analyzed., Results: CAs have a significant effect on CBC. After prewarming at 37°C or 41°C the interferences are all corrected. Consider prewarming at 37°C for 120 minutes as the standard procedure. The consistency and correlation analysis showed there was no statistical difference between the results of each subgroup and standard group, except the MCHC of group 41°C 10 minutes. The correlation of parameters between all subgroups and the standard group is satisfied. Microscopic examination showed no RBC aggregation or fragmentation after prewarming at 41°C or 37°C. According to the maximum bias requirements for expert performance in Validation, Verification, and Quality Assurance of Automated Hematology Analyzers, 2nd Edition (CLSI H26-A2), the differences in overall results in control group are negligible., Conclusions: The 41°C 2 minutes prewarming method is a rapid and effective way for treating samples with CAs. It is an efficient way to obtain more reliable CBC results, without specific instruments.

Mesozoic fossils of frogs are rare in the palaeontological record, particularly those exhibiting soft tissues that offer limited insights into early life-history characteristics. Here we report on a skeletally immature frog from the Lower Cretaceous of northwest China, with egg masses in the body and eggs in the oviduct, indicative of a gravid female. CT reconstruction of the specimen allows referral to Gansubatrachus qilianensis and we assign it as a paratype complementing the diagnosis of the type species . The new fossil, which might represent a younger individual than the holotype of Gansubatrachus , shows that sexual maturation occurred before full adulthood in this frog and provides evidence of death linked to mating behaviour. We also discuss other potential sources of variation and life-history traits of Gansubatrachus . The new finding represents the oldest Early Cretaceous frog preserving in situ eggs and provides a glimpse into ancient anuran development during Mesozoic times.

Purpose: Periprosthetic fracture (PPF) is one of the severe complications in patients with osteosarcoma and carries the risk of limb loss. This study describes the characteristics, treatment strategies, and outcomes of this complication., Methods: Patients were consecutively included who were treated at our institution between 2016 and 2020 with a PPF of distal femur. The treatment strategies included two types: 1) open reduction and internal fixation with plates and screws and 2) replacement with long-stem endoprosthesis and reinforcement with wire rope if necessary., Results: A total of 11 patients (mean age 12.2 years (9-14)) were included, and the mean follow-up period was 36.5 (21-54) months. Most fractures were caused by direct or indirect trauma (n = 8), and others (n = 3) underwent PPF without obvious cause. The first type of treatment was performed on four patients, and the second type was performed on seven patients. The mean Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS) score was 20 (17-23). All patients recovered from the complication, and limb preservation could be achieved., Conclusion: PPF is a big challenge for musculoskeletal oncologists, particularly in younger patients. Additionally, PPF poses a challenge for orthopedic surgeons, as limb preservation should be an important goal.
