The ability to control and manipulate semiconductor/bio interfaces is essential to enable biological nanofabrication pathways and bioelectronic devices. Traditional surface functionalization methods, such as self-assembled monolayers (SAMs), provide limited customization for these interfaces. Polymer brushes offer a wider range of chemistries, but choices that maintain compatibility with both lithographic patterning and biological systems are scarce. Here, we developed a class of bioinspired, sequence-defined polymers, i.e., polypeptoids, as tailored polymer brushes for surface modification of semiconductor substrates. Polypeptoids featuring a terminal hydroxyl (-OH) group are designed and synthesized for efficient melt grafting onto the native oxide layer of Si substrates, forming ultrathin (∼1 nm) monolayers. By programming monomer chemistry, our polypeptoid brush platform offers versatile surface modification, including adjustments to surface energy, passivation, preferential biomolecule attachment, and specific biomolecule binding. Importantly, the polypeptoid brush monolayers remain compatible with electron-beam lithographic patterning and retain their chemical characteristics even under harsh lithographic conditions. Electron-beam lithography is used over polypeptoid brushes to generate highly precise, binary nanoscale patterns with localized functionality for the selective immobilization (or passivation) of biomacromolecules, such as DNA origami or streptavidin, onto addressable arrays. This surface modification strategy with bioinspired, sequence-defined polypeptoid brushes enables monomer-level control over surface properties with a large parameter space of monomer chemistry and sequence and therefore is a highly versatile platform to precisely engineer semiconductor/bio interfaces for bioelectronics applications.

Healthy ageing, which is the target of life' s later developmental stage, can be achieved through building a wise perspective towards life and existence. However, it may not be achievable for older people when the societal sources are limited. The TILDA project aimed to evaluate the associated factors with healthy ageing and to transfer that knowledge into practice. Hence, determining the perspectives of older people support and advocacy organisations on the enablers and facilitators of the healthy ageing strategies of TILDA is essential to gain a better understanding of the project and plan future strategies. This study aimed to investigate how the TILDA project has influenced or impacted upon these organisations from education, policy, or practice perspectives. The participants (n = 15) included in the study's sample were reached through representative organisations acting to support older people in the Republic of Ireland. Semi-structured interviews were conducted online via Zoom. A systematic thematic data analysis procedure was followed, and three themes emerged from the qualitative data, revealing the perceptions of participants about the TILDA project: (1) Limitations of TILDA, (2) Contributions of TILDA, and (3) Future recommendations for TILDA. In conclusion, among the disadvantages of TILDA, the most significant is not being representative and visible enough; it is evident that it is pivotal to develop a more inclusive culture of TILDA with close cooperation and effective marketing strategies. This article examines the connection between human rights and elder abuse, employing a human rights-based approach. Through a critical examination of a fictional case study on elder abuse, the discussion highlights the vital role of nurses when safeguarding the rights of older individuals in residential care settings. The PANEL framework – encompassing Participation, Accountability, Non-discrimination, Empowerment and Legality – is a comprehensive guide for safeguarding practice and is applied to the example provided. By applying this human rights-based approach, nurses can proactively address elder abuse, ensuring individuals' rights are protected, promoted and supported. Through accountability measures, non-discriminatory practices, empowerment strategies and adherence to legal standards, the authors advocate for a holistic approach to enhance the quality of care and foster a safe environment for older adults. When presented with images of the American plantations, seamstress sweatshops, Morecambe Bay's Chinese cockle pickers or Qatar's World Cup stadium builders, a sense of inequality will accompany any normal reaction of shock and revulsion. The exploitation of a group of migrant workers readily is characterised as racist, sexist or both. Yet, when reduced to the sole migrant worker, the legal recognition of discrimination is denied. In such cases, the UK Supreme Court posits a clear distinction between vulnerability and nationality. Not only does this seem somewhat doctrinal and lacking in principle, it produces a likely anomaly between the group and individual exploitation. It also stymies claims for the inevitable psychological harm. This paper presents a brief account of the plight of migrant workers in the UK and the legal landscape regarding trafficking. The main body presents a critical appraisal of the Supreme Court's denial, in Taiwo v Olaigbe and Onu v Akwiwu , that the mistreatment of a sole migrant worker is not discriminatory. Background: Elder abuse is a global human rights issue, particularly in residential care settings where there is limited understanding of older people's experiences of this phenomenon. This scoping review aims to map and describe the existing literature on this phenomenon. Methods: Using Arksey and O'Malley's scoping review methodology, further developed by Levac et al. and the Joanna Briggs Institute, a systematic search of six databases was conducted to identify relevant studies published from inception to January 2023. Studies were included if they focused on older people's experience of abuse within residential care settings. A comprehensive data extraction process was employed to identify key themes from the included studies. Results: The initial search yielded a total of 3701 articles of which eight met the inclusion criteria. The findings revealed a range of abusive experiences encountered by older people living in residential care settings, including psychological, physical, financial, neglect and sexual abuse. The common attributes of residents vulnerable to abuse were evident throughout each of the studies. Finally, the theme of organizational neglect was apparent through the absence of effective safeguarding measures in the included studies. The findings revealed the insufficient implementation of safeguarding measures increases the risk of abuse among residents. Conclusion: This scoping review highlights the limited research on the experiences of older people who have encountered elder abuse in residential care settings. The findings stress the need for further research exploring the complex interplay of factors contributing to elder abuse within aged care settings. The insights gained from this scoping review can inform the development of comprehensive safeguarding strategies to prevent and address elder abuse in residential care settings, promoting the well‐being and safety of older people. Objective: To identify predictors of sexual satisfaction in patients with advanced cancer and their family caregivers. Methods: Cross‐sectional study using baseline survey data from a randomized controlled trial in six European countries. Patients with advanced cancer and their family caregiver completed measures on sexual satisfaction (one item from Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy ‐ General questionnaire for patients and Caregiver Quality of Life Index‐Cancer scale for family caregivers) and health‐related characteristics. Multivariable linear regressions were performed for all predictors (identified based on literature) with sexual satisfaction as dependent variable. Results: The sample comprised 431 patient‐family caregiver dyads. Patients with prostate or gynecological cancer reported lower sexual satisfaction (respectively B = −0.267 95% CI: −1.674, −0.594 and B = −0.196, 95% CI −2.103, −0.452). Higher emotional (B = 0.278, 95% CI 0.024, 0.057) physical (B = 0.305, 95% CI 0.012, 0.025) and social functioning (B = 0.151, 95% CI 0.001, 0.013), global health (B = 0.356, 95% CI 0.007, 0.013) and social wellbeing (B = 0.161, 95% CI 0.013, 0.082) among patients were associated with higher sexual satisfaction. Among family caregivers, sexual satisfaction was lower with increased age (B = −0.142, 95% CI −0.022, −0.004). Higher emotional functioning (B = 0.027, 95% CI 0.011, 0.043) and quality of life (B = 0.165, 95% CI −0.165, 0.716) were associated with higher sexual satisfaction in family caregivers. Conclusions: The results underscore that sexual wellbeing of patients and family caregivers is related to health related factors in physical, emotional, and social domains. Background: Dying well at home usually requires the help and assistance of an informal caregiver. This role is usually unpaid, wide‐ranging and oftentimes demanding. From diagnosis to death of a loved one, informal caregivers can experience one and frequently numerous transitions, however, little is known about this process. The purpose of this scoping review is to chart, explore and understand caregivers' experiences of transitioning when providing end‐of‐life care. A preliminary search of the literature indicated a paucity of research highlighting a notable absence of caregiver's perspectives and acknowledgements of the support they need to ensure successful transitions during this time. Consequently, this review has the potential to make a valuable contribution to the literature. Methods: Arksey and O'Malley's (2005) framework, further enhanced by Levac et al. (2010) and Peters et al. (2020) was used to conduct this scoping review. The Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA‐ScR) guided reporting. A systematic search of the databases PUBMED, PsychINFO, CINAHL, EMBASE, and Web of Science and a selection of grey literature was undertaken from the year 1990 to date by two researchers. Titles and abstracts of the literature identified were screened and finally, a narrative synthesis of 11 articles was undertaken to answer the following research question: What is known from the literature about informal caregivers' transitions when caring for a dying person in the home? Conclusions: Current knowledge on this topic is limited; however, from this review, two main themes were identified: 'Challenges arising during transitioning' with subthemes of burden of care and fading away. The second theme 'Coping strategies' comprised subthemes of meaning‐making, seeking normality and hope. This evidence may support the development of transitional care interventions in the future and improve patient and caregiver outcome measures and experiences to inform a larger research study exploring this phenomenon. The rationale for the principles of effective school governance in England, as set out in government regulations, has never been made explicit. This article addresses that issue and develops and proposes such principles. We argue that effective school governance secures the legitimacy of schools as institutions. Such institutional legitimacy is achieved through the institutionalization processes in which the institutional primary task is central. Effective governance is therefore concerned with overseeing and ensuring the processes of institutionalization. We identify two general principles that relate to ensuring the school's legitimacy and ensuring that the school's institutionalization processes enable it to be a legitimate institution. We also distinguish six specific principles that relate to: the school's work on the institutional primary task, the resources required and deployed for work on the institutional primary task; the school's compliance with the rules and regulations that apply to the institution; the school's conformance to the norms expected of a school; the way the school operates on a day-to-day basis in relation to wider society's expectations; calling the headteacher or principal (HT/P) to account for the functioning of the school; and ensuring the HT/P's development. This systematic database search aimed to gather a broad spectrum of research and scholarly literature to inform and support the concept analysis. A total of 10 peer‐reviewed articles were reviewed using a data chart to identify the context, definitions, antecedents, attributes and consequences of safeguarding adults.The analysis of the included articles helped to develop a better understanding of safeguarding adults by offering a practical operational definition tailored to the specific needs of practising nurses. The implications for practice, research and policy are discussed, highlighting the potential for improving the quality of care and ensuring the well‐being of adults at risk of abuse.By employing Rogers' evolutionary concept analysis method, we developed a deeper insight into safeguarding adults in health care. ABSTRACT Aim Design Methods Results Conclusion Reporting Method Patient or Public Contribution To conduct a comprehensive review of Undergraduate Nursing and Midwifery Curricula leading to registration in Ireland.A mixed methods approach using a curriculum evaluation framework that was underpinned by the philosophy and principles of appreciative inquiry.Five separate workstreams completed an evaluation of national policy documents and international curriculum documents, a literature review and two phases of stakeholder engagement including a graduate survey and peer‐grouped stakeholder focus groups. The workstreams were emulated for the professions of nursing and midwifery.National policy indicates a significant shift in healthcare delivery to the community environment, with a strong focus on the social determinants of health and a flexible interprofessional workforce. International curricula review revealed that nursing and midwifery education was split equally between academia and clinical practice at bachelor's degree level. Graduates were assessed for clinical competence with a variance of four to seven domains of competence evident for nurses and five principles for midwives. Direct entry midwifery was not widely available. The graduate survey identified that students were satisfied with the academic components of the curriculum; however, significant challenges in clinical placement were reported. Stakeholder focus groups reported a need for a learner‐focused approach to the curricula, increased access to education, a deeper understanding and appreciation of the various roles required to educate nurses and midwives and a recognition of midwifery as a separate profession.There is a need for a significant revision of the current nursing and midwifery curricula to meet the future healthcare needs of the diverse patient population with a community‐focused delivery.The good reporting of a mixed methods study was used to guide the development of this manuscript.An Expert Advisory Group (EAG) was appointed to oversee the conduct of the research project and advise the research team as requested. AcutoX is a human in vitro test method for the evaluation of acute oral toxicity, developed using a library of 67 curated test chemicals. These chemicals cover a wide variety of chemistries, industrial sectors, rodent toxicities, and all EPA and GHS hazard categories. The test uses two different cytotoxicity endpoints (Neutral Red uptake and MTT metabolism), performed both in the presence and absence of a pooled human liver extract (S9), to produce four EC50 values. The EC50 values are used in prediction models to assign a "highly toxic" and "low toxicity" category for both EPA and GHS classification, which can be further refined to assign a hazard category. The binary "highly toxic" / "low toxicity" prediction model has an accuracy of 73.8% and 63.1% for EPA and GHS, respectively, with the subsequent hazard categorization offering a protective prediction (correct or higher category) in 90.0% and 93.3% of cases, respectively. Moreover, the AcutoX test can identify chemicals activated or detoxified by liver metabolism.

Discussion Arguments: In a science-based profession, nurses must continuously monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of their care. However, data on what constitutes nursing care in practice and the delivery process is lacking. Insufficient evidence on how nurses contribute to patient care hampers the evaluation of nursing practice.We discuss nursing-sensitive indicators, their origins, current applications, and challenges related to their use in evaluating the quality of nursing care. We analyse nursing-sensitive indicators in the context of criticisms levelled at the profession related to the lack of evidence to support their value in the larger healthcare environment., Conclusions: We have a disjointed approach to evaluating nursing care.
