This study investigates the structural effects on the cross-plane thermal conductivity of Li4Ti5O12-based anode active material. Three structures are investigated: a basic structure consisting of LiBr/LiCl/Li4Ti5O12, polyvinylidene difluoride, and Super P (sample #1); a structure without Li4Ti5O12 (sample #2); and a structure without LiBr/LiCl (sample #3). Despite its high porosity level (77%), sample #1 exhibits higher thermal conductivity than sample #3 (64% porosity) in both air and vacuum conditions, potentially due to the extra structural bonding provided by LiBr/LiCl. The observed difference in cross-plane thermal conductivity between air and vacuum conditions provides insights into the configuration of the anode's active material in the heat transfer direction. The lower limit corresponds to the parallel thermal circuit configuration of active material and air, which is the product of the sample's porosity and thermal conductivity of air. Our analysis suggests that in sample #2, the anode's active material and air inside the pores demonstrate a more serial configuration, while in sample #3, they exhibit a more parallel configuration in the heat transfer direction. However, the thermal conductivity difference observed for sample #1 falls below the theoretical lower bound indicating significant thermal radiation within the pores. Furthermore, the in-plane thermal conductivity is predominantly controlled by the copper foil. Sample #2 exhibits the lowest in-plane thermal conductivity. Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC), as a necessary enzyme for higher plants to participate in photosynthesis, plays a key role in photosynthetic carbon metabolism and the stress response. However, the molecular biology of the PEPC family of Bambusoideae has been poorly studied, and the function of its members in the growth and development of Bambusoideae is still unclear. Here, we identified a total of 62 PEPC family members in bamboo. All the PEPC genes in the bamboo subfamily were divided into twelve groups, each group typically containing significantly fewer PEPC members in Olyra latifolia than in Phyllostachys edulis, Dendrocalamus latiflorus and Dendrocalamus brandisii. The results of an intraspecific and interspecies collinearity analysis showed that fragment replication and whole genome replication were the main driving forces of bamboo PEPC members. Furthermore, the Ka/Ks values of collinear genes showed that bamboo PEPC experienced purification selection. In addition, the promoter region of PEPC genes contains cis-acting elements related to light response, plant hormone response and response to stress. An analysis of the expression levels of the PEPC family in different developmental stages and tissues of bamboo shoots has shown that PhePEPC7, PhePEPC9 and PhePEPC10 were highly expressed in the leaves of non-flowering plants and culms. Furthermore, PhePEPC6 was significantly upregulated in leaves after GA treatment. Further research has shown that PhePEPC6 was mainly localized in the cell membrane. Dendrocalamus brandisii (Munro) Kurz is a sympodial bamboo species with a wide distribution in tropical and subtropical regions. Due to its remarkable regenerative ability and exceptional flavor, this species plays a pivotal role in bolstering the economies of numerous nations across these regions. We recently published a high-quality genome of this species. To date, no study results have identified the optimal reference genes for quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) normalization in Dendrocalamus brandisii. qRT-PCR offers a highly accurate and effective approach to analyzing gene expression. However, the precision of the resulting quantitative data hinges on the correct choice of reference genes. Twenty-one potential reference genes were identified from the D. brandisii transcriptomes. Their expression in 23 samples, including 8 different tissue organs and 15 samples of D. brandisii under various treatment conditions, were evaluated through qRT-PCR. Subsequently, four software programs—Delta CT, geNorm, NormFinder, and RefFinder—were employed to compare their expression stability. The results revealed that the selection of optimal reference genes varied based on the particular organ and condition being examined. EF-1-α-2 consistently exhibits the most stable expression across diverse tissues, while ACTIN-1, TUBULIN-1, and EF-1-α-2 were the most consistent reference genes in roots, culms, and leaves under various treatments, respectively. Addressing the pressing demand for rapid and inexpensive coagulation testing in cardiovascular care, this study introduces a novel application of repurposed COVID-19 rapid antigen tests (RATs) as paper-based lateral flow assays (LFAs) combined with machine learning for coagulation status evaluation. By further developing a mobile app prototype, we present a platform that enables clinicians to perform immediate and accurate anticoagulant dosing adjustments using existing post-pandemic resources. Our proof-of-concept employs a random forest machine learning classifier to interpret image feature variations on RAT NC membrane, correlating red blood cell (RBC) wicked diffusion distance in recalcified citrated whole blood with changes in coagulative viscosity, easily interpreted. Enhanced by confocal imaging studies of paper microfluidics, our approach provides insights into the mechanisms dissecting coagulation components, achieving high classification precision, recall, and F1-scores. The inverse relationship between RBC wicked diffusion distance and enoxaparin concentration paves the way for machine learning to inform real-time dose prescription adjustments, aligning with individual patient profiles to optimize therapeutic outcomes. This study not only demonstrates the potential of leveraging surplus RATs for coagulation management but also exemplifies a cost-effective, rapid, and smart strategy to enhance clinical decision-making in the post-pandemic era. Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis), renowned for its rapid growth, is attributed to the dynamic changes in its apical meristem. The CLAVATA3/EMBRYO SURROUNDING REGION-RELATED (CLE) family genes are known to play crucial roles in regulating meristem and organ formation in model plants, but their functions in Moso bamboo remain unclear. Here, we conducted a genome-wide identification of the CLE gene family of Moso bamboo and investigated their gene structure, chromosomal localization, evolutionary relationships, and expression patterns. A total of 11 PheCLE genes were identified, all of which contained a conserved CLE peptide core functional motif (Motif 1) at their C-termini. Based on Arabidopsis classification criteria, these genes were predominantly distributed in Groups A–C. Collinearity analysis unveiled significant synteny among CLE genes in Moso bamboo, rice, and maize, implying potential functional conservation during monocot evolution. Transcriptomic analysis showed significant expression of these genes in the apical tissues of Moso bamboo, including root tips, shoot tips, rhizome buds, and flower buds. Particularly, single-cell transcriptomic data and in situ hybridization further corroborated the heightened expression of PheCLE1 and PheCLE10 in the apical tissue of basal roots. Additionally, the overexpression of PheCLE1 and PheCLE10 in rice markedly promoted root growth. PheCLE1 and PheCLE10 were both located on the cell membrane. Furthermore, the upstream transcription factors NAC9 and NAC6 exhibited binding affinity toward the promoters of PheCLE1 and PheCLE10, thereby facilitating their transcriptional activation. In summary, this study not only systematically identified the CLE gene family in Moso bamboo for the first time but also emphasized their central roles in apical tissue development. This study evaluates the effectiveness of artificial Kandelia obovata forests in wave attenuation through physical model experiments conducted in a wave flume. The experiments meticulously replicated real-world hydrodynamic conditions and mangrove movement responses using the principles of gravitational and motion similarity, with a scaled 1:10 model of Kandelia obovata. Our approach included comparative experiments against a 1:100 gradient concrete slope to isolate the effects of seabed friction and flume wall reflections. The wave height was measured using strategically placed wave gauges. The findings indicated that the artificial Kandelia obovata forests significantly attenuated waves, with a decrease in the total attenuation capacity as the water depth increased from 2.75 m to 3.28 m under both regular and irregular waves. The elastic mangrove model with a canopy effect led to a 15% increase in wave attenuation over cylindrical models. Human skin comprises multiple hierarchical layers that perform various functions such as protection, sensing, and structural support. Developing electronic skin (E‐skin) with similar properties has broad implications in health monitoring, prosthetics, and soft robotics. While previous efforts have predominantly concentrated on sensory capabilities, this study introduces a hierarchical polymer system that not only structurally resembles the epidermis‐dermis bilayer structure of skin but also encompasses sensing functions. The system comprises a polymeric hydrogel, representing the "dermis", and a superimposed nanoporous polymer film, forming the "epidermis". Within the film, interconnected nanoparticles mimic the arrangement of interlocked corneocytes within the epidermis. The fabrication process employs a robust in situ interfacial precipitation polymerization of specific water‐soluble monomers that become insoluble during polymerization. This process yields a hybrid layer establishing a durable interface between the film and hydrogel. Beyond the structural mimicry, this hierarchical structure offers functionalities resembling human skin, which includes (1) water loss protection of hydrogel by tailoring the hydrophobicity of the upper polymer film; (2) tactile sensing capability via self‐powered triboelectric nanogenerators; (3) built‐in gold nanowire‐based resistive sensor toward temperature and pressure sensing. Electrochemistry-based wearable and wireless sweat analysis is emerging as a promising noninvasive method for real-time health monitoring by tracking chemical and biological markers without the need for invasive blood sampling. It offers the potential to remotely monitor human sweat conditions in relation to metabolic health, stress, and electrolyte balance, which have implications for athletes, patients with chronic conditions, and individuals for the early detection and management of health issues. The state-of-the-art mainstream technology is dominated by the concept of a wearable microfluidic chip, typically based on elastomeric PDMS. While outstanding sensing performance can be realized, the design suffers from the poor permeability of PDMS, which could cause skin redness or irritation. Here, we introduce an omnidirectionally permeable, deformable, and wearable sweat analysis system based on gold nanowire sponges. We demonstrate the concept of all-in-one soft sponge electrochemistry, where the working, reference, and counter electrodes and electrolytes are all integrated within the sponge matrix. The intrinsic porosity of sponge in conjunction with vertically aligned gold nanowire electrodes gives rise to a high electrochemically active surface area of ∼67 cm 2 . Remarkably, this all-in-one sponge-based electrochemical system exhibited stable performance under a pressure of 10 kPa and 300% omnidirectional strain. The gold sponge biosensing electrodes could be sandwiched between two biocompatible sweat pads, which can serve as natural sweat collection and outflow layers. This naturally biocompatible and permeable platform can be integrated with wireless communication circuits, leading to a wireless sweat analysis system for the real-time monitoring of glucose, lactate, and pH during exercise.

Cardiac organoids differentiated from induced pluripotent stem cells are emerging as a promising platform for pre-clinical drug screening, assessing cardiotoxicity, and disease modelling. However, it is challenging to simultaneously measure mechanical contractile forces and electrophysiological signals of cardiac organoids in real-time and in-situ with the existing methods. Here, we present a biting-inspired sensory system based on a resistive skin sensor and a microelectrode array. The bite-like contact can be established with a micromanipulator to precisely position the resistive skin sensor on the top of the cardiac organoid while the 3D microneedle electrode array probes from underneath. Such reliable contact is key to achieving simultaneous electro-mechanical measurements. We demonstrate the use of our system for modelling cardiotoxicity with the anti-cancer drug doxorubicin. The electro-mechanical parameters described here elucidate the acute cardiotoxic effects induced by doxorubicin. Asparagus by-products are the promising resource that urgently need to be re-valorized. This study investigated the dynamic changes in physicochemical properties, organic acids, free amino acids, volatile flavor compounds, microbial succession, and their correlations during 7-day spontaneous fermentation of asparagus by-products. Dominant organic acids (lactic acid and acetic acid) and free amino acids (Ser, Glu, and Ala) increased with fermentation time, with lactic acid reaching 7.73 ± 0.05 mg/mL and Ser increasing 56-fold after 7 days. A total of 58 volatile flavor compounds were identified using headspace solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPEM/GC-MS), with esters, alcohols and acids as the main volatile flavor compounds. Fourteen volatile flavor compounds had odor activity value >1. High-throughput sequencing showed Firmicutes and Proteobacteria as the main bacterial phyla, dominated by lactic acid bacteria (Levilactobacillus, Lactiplantibacillus, Weissella). Correlation analysis revealed that five bacterial genera (Levilactobacillus, Lactiplantibacillus, Enterobacter, Pediococcus and Acetobacter) were highly correlated with organic acids, free amino acids, and volatile flavor compounds, indicating their pivotal role in forming the characteristic flavor of fermented asparagus by-products (FAPS).
