Background: Our study aimed to identify the social domains that pose the greatest barriers to managing and supporting pwCF, particularly in relation to income levels., Methods: To identify associations between income and health outcomes in pwCF in our center the shorter form of the survey "Your Current Life Situation" (YCLS) was used in face-to-face interviews. Participants were also asked to complete the validated Turkish versions of the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-7) to assess depression and anxiety, respectively., Results: In total, 282 pwCF were included in this study. 51.1 % were female (n = 144), mean (±SD) age was 13.8 (±8.7) years and 75 % (n = 211) were <18 years old. The median (IQR) values of pwCF; FEV 1pp (percent predictive) 83 % (41-97), BMI (body mass index) 17 kg/m 2 (15∼20), BMI z-score -0.1 (-1∼0.3). Of the pwCF in the study 89 % (n = 251) had an income below the poverty threshold and 21 % (n = 60) of them had an income below the hunger threshold. The results of YCLS survey showed that the highest level of insecurity was in the social domain (68.5 %, n = 193); this was followed by health and clinical care (62.1 %, n = 173), financial (37.9 %, n = 106), and food insecurity (37.2 %, n = 103). All individuals experiencing housing insecurity stated that they had requested help from local organisations., Conclusion: The study highlights the substantial socioeconomic challenges faced by pwCF, a significant majority live below the poverty threshold and experience high levels of social and health insecurity, underscoring the need for comprehensive support systems to address these issues., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The authors declare no conflict of interest., (Copyright © 2024. Background: Renal dysplasia (RD) is a major cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in childhood. Herein, we present a single-center experience about distinctive features of different subtypes of dysplasia., Methods: All children with RD admitted between January 2018 and June 2019 were included in this cross-sectional study. Patients were classified as having unilateral RD, bilateral RD, posterior urethral valves (PUV), and multicystic-dysplastic kidneys (MCDK)., Results: A total of 198 patients (108 unilateral RD, 31 bilateral RD, 16 PUV, and 43 MCDK) with a follow-up period of 80 (1.5-240) months were included. The overall consanguinity rate was 22%, whereas it was 56% in bilateral RD patients. Two-thirds had additional urogenital anomalies. Hypertension was detected in 16% of the patients, and 20% had median proteinuria of 16 (5.2-173) mg/m 2 /h, which was significantly higher in the PUV and bilateral RD groups. The overall rate of CKD was 23%, which was more frequent in bilateral RD and PUV groups. The median age at end-stage renal disease was 91.5 (0.5-208) months, including 12 renal transplant patients., Conclusions: As different subtypes of RD have distinct clinical and prognostic features, the follow-up of RD patients should be individualized, and modifiable complications such as proteinuria and HT should be monitored closely., Competing Interests: The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest., (Thieme. Backgound: The aim of this study is to examine the long-term prognosis of children with ureteropelvic junction obstruction-like hydronephrosis (UPJO-like HN)., Patients and Methods: The files of children with hydronephrosis (HN) were analyzed retrospectively. Patients with vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) and other genitourinary anomalies were excluded. The final status of the HN, the need for surgery, and urinary tract infection (UTI) frequency were evaluated., Results: The study included 219 patients with 302 renal units (RU) with HN. Surgery rate was higher in RUs with larger kidney size and parenchymal thinning (p:<0.001 for both). Hydronephrosis resolved in 113 (40.2%) RUs, improved in 66 (23.3%), unchanged in 100 (35.5%) and worsened in 4 (1.4%). The frequency of recovery and improvement was found to be less in RUs with severe HN, large kidney size, and thin parenchyma. The UTI frequency was higher in severe HN group (12.2% vs 30.6% p:<0.001)., Conclusions: Children with mild HN had an excellent prognosis. Although the majority of the patients with high-grade HN had also a good prognosis, it seems important to closely follow up patients with severe HN, increased kidney size, and accompanying parenchymal thinning.
