Sludge anaerobic digestion promoted by enzymes has the advantages of mild reaction, high efficiency and environmental protection etc. However, the difficulty of recovery and poor catalytic stability seriously restrict its application. Enzyme immobilization is the key to solve the above problems. A new type of polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) carrier was prepared by Noria and polyethylenimide(PEI) co-deposition. The effect of lysozyme immobilized with Noria-PEI modified PVA carriers on the efficiency of sludge anaerobic fermentation for VFAs production was studied. The results showed that immobilized lysozyme could enhance sludge fermentation to promote SCOD, and SCOD reached the highest concentration of 2 892.4 mg/L within 36 h, which was 3.4 times higher than in the blank(day 6). VFAs concentration peaked at 2 130.8 mg/L on day 4, mainly comprised of acetic acid and propionic acid, accounting for 61.8%-80.7%. The average particle size and specific surface area of sludge in the immobilized enzyme system were 42.957 μm and 0.413 m2/g, indicating that immobilized enzyme enhanced the hydrolysis of granular sludge. Microbial community analysis showed that the hydrolytic acid-producing phyla of Firmicutes, Proteobacteria and Bacteroides accounted for high proportion in the immobilized enzyme system. At the genus level, Macellibacteroides, Petrimona, Lactobacillu, and Clostridium_sensu_stricto_1 were the main genera, which revealed the mechanism of enhanced VFAs production by the immobilized enzyme at microscopic level.

Live streaming is revolutionizing the landscape of e-commerce, creating new opportunities for platforms and e-tailers to improve their performance. However, little is known about the underlying mechanisms that shape consumer behavior in this burgeoning business phenomenon. This study aims to shed light on the relationships between environmental cues generated by live streaming and online impulse buying. Drawing upon the Stimulus-Organism-Response framework, a comprehensive model was formulated to explore how social cues (streamer interaction, peer interaction) and media cues (vividness, realness) impact pleasure, arousal, perceived uncertainty, and subsequently induce consumers’ urge to buy impulsively. The model was tested by survey data from 403 consumers. SPSS and PLS are employed to verify the model. The findings revealed that realness and streamer interaction can reduce perceived uncertainty and foster a pleasant consumer experience, while vividness and peer interaction serve to awaken and delight consumers. Pleasure, arousal, and perceived uncertainty mediate antecedent variables’ effects on urge to buy impulsively in a parallel and reverse way, and emotions exert a more powerful influence. This study enriched the research on the influence mechanisms of impulse buying driven by live streaming and provided suggestions for platforms and streamers to optimize product display and guide interaction, which is conducive to leveraging the advantages of live streaming and creating greater commercial value.

Purpose: This study utilizes a meta-analytic approach to investigate the effects of cryoablation and robot-assisted partial nephrectomy on perioperative outcomes, postoperative renal function, and oncological results in patients. Methods: This study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. Four electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library database) were systematically searched to identify relevant studies published in English up to November 2023. The primary outcomes were perioperative results, complications, postoperative renal function and oncologic outcomes. Review Manager 5.4 was used for this analysis. Results: This study included a total of 10 studies comprising 2,011 patients. Compared to RAPN (Robot-Assisted Partial Nephrectomy), the CA (Cryoablation) group had a shorter hospital stay [MD -1.76 days; 95% CI -3.12 to -0.41; p = 0.01], less blood loss [MD -104.60 ml; 95% CI -152.58 to -56.62; p < 0.0001], and fewer overall complications [OR 0.62; 95% CI 0.45 to 0.86; p = 0.004], but a higher recurrence rate [OR 7.83; 95% CI 4.32 to 14.19; p < 0.00001]. There were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of operative time, minor complications (Clavien-Dindo Grade 1–2), major complications (Clavien-Dindo Grade 3–5), changes in renal function at 12 months post-operation, RFS (Recurrence-Free Survival), and OS (Overall Survival). Conclusion: The evidence provided by this meta-analysis indicates that the therapeutic effects of Cryoablation (CA) are similar to those of Robot-Assisted Partial Nephrectomy (RAPN) in terms of perioperative outcomes and renal function. However, the recurrence rate of tumors treated with CA is significantly higher. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a highly effective tool to prevent HIV, yet it is underutilized among women. The current study aims to evaluate the awareness, attitudes, and perceptions of PrEP among a large survey sample of Black and Latina women in New York City (NYC). Interviewer-administered surveys were conducted in high HIV incidence neighborhoods in NYC among Black, Latina, and Afro-Latina women who reported recent sex with a man in 2017 (n = 398) and 2018 (n = 405). About 40% of participants were aware of PrEP, whereas 30.4% indicated interest in using it. The top reason for not utilizing it was low HIV risk perception. However, most participants supported the idea that using PrEP meant asserting control over their health (94.1%). Primary care providers and obstetricians/gynecologists were participants' preferred sources for PrEP (91.6%). Across survey cycles, compared to non-Black Latina participants, Black participants had significantly higher PrEP awareness (44.4% vs. 29.1%). PrEP awareness was also significantly higher among survey participants in 2018 (45.2%) than in 2017 (34.3%). Less than half of the participants were aware of PrEP, but those who were aware expressed largely positive attitudes toward the medication. Our findings may inform future PrEP implementation strategies to optimize awareness and access to PrEP among women disproportionately affected by HIV, like focusing on personal empowerment instead of risk-based messaging and training women's sexual health care providers in PrEP provision. Summary Bighead carp has the largest production amount among freshwater fish in China, but its physicochemical properties change rapidly with the denaturation of their myofibril protein (MP). The protein–polysaccharide complexes have shown interesting physicochemical properties as stabilisers and emulsifiers. In this study, arabinoxylans (AXs) were prepared and mixed with bighead carp MP to form a composite gel. The effect of AXs on the thermal stability, emulsification and emulsion stability of the composite gel was investigated. The results showed that fraction precipitated by 60% ethanol (F60) and by 90% (F90) improved the denaturation temperature of bighead carp MP from 65.99 °C to 67.39 °C and 68.22 °C, respectively. The emulsifying capacity of F60 (0.54 m2 g−1) was similar to that of sucrose (0.52 m2 g−1). The effect of F90 on the emulsion stability of bighead carp MP was better than that of F60. The elasticity of bighead carp MP was improved by F60 and F90. The hydroxyl group interactions, hydrophobic interactions and electrostatic forces exist between the macromolecules. Artificial-intelligence-generated content has driven explosive data traffic growth in data-center interconnects. Traditional direct detection solutions struggle with limited spectral efficiency and distance, prompting the shift to coherent optics for cost-sensitive short-reach links. One specific challenge is integrating low-cost lasers while overcoming severe phase noise on high-order modulation formats. Here, we propose a residual carrier modulation scheme for precise and efficient carrier frequency and phase recovery. The residual optical carrier can continuously track phase fluctuations without redundancy compared with discrete time-domain pilots, and address the digital-to-analog convertor resolution reduction issue of frequency-domain digital pilots. In proof-of-concept experiments, we transmit a net 1-Tb/s probabilistic-shaped 256-ary quadrature amplitude modulated (PS-256-QAM) signal using a 3 MHz distributed feedback (DFB) laser. Our scheme improves bitrate by 41% compared to conventional time-domain pilots, achieving a record laser linewidth sum and symbol duration product of 6.89 × 10−5. This approach supports MHz linewidth DFB lasers in low-cost coherent optical communications. The authors propose a residual carrier modulation scheme to overcome laser phase noise in coherent optical systems. Background: The high prevalence of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) in the United States necessitates further investigation into its impact on complications associated with total hip arthroplasty (THA). This study utilizes a large nationwide database to explore risk factors in DKD cases undergoing THA. Methods: This research utilized a case–control design, leveraging data from the national inpatient sample for the years 2016 to 2019. Employing propensity score matching (PSM), patients diagnosed with DKD were paired on a 1:1 basis with individuals free of DKD, ensuring equivalent age, sex, race, Elixhauser Comorbidity Index (ECI), and insurance coverage. Subsequently, comparisons were drawn between these PSM-matched cohorts, examining their characteristics and the incidence of post-THA complications. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was then employed to evaluate the risk of early complications after surgery. Results: DKD's prevalence in the THA cohort was 2.38%. A 7-year age gap separated DKD and non-DKD patients (74 vs. 67 years, P < 0.0001). Additionally, individuals aged above 75 exhibited a substantial 22.58% increase in DKD risk (49.16% vs. 26.58%, P < 0.0001). Notably, linear regression analysis yielded a significant association between DKD and postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI), with DKD patients demonstrating 2.274-fold greater odds of AKI in contrast with non-DKD individuals (95% CI: 2.091–2.473). Conclusions: This study demonstrates that DKD is a significant risk factor for AKI in patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty. Optimizing preoperative kidney function through appropriate interventions might decrease the risk of poor prognosis in this population. More prospective research is warranted to investigate the potential of targeted kidney function improvement strategies in reducing AKI rates after THA. The findings of this study hold promise for enhancing preoperative counseling by surgeons, enabling them to provide DKD patients undergoing THA with more precise information regarding the risks associated with their condition. The knowledge of impurities is an important issue and the base of quality control in modern drugs. To date, the quality control of the antitumor drug homoharringtonine (HHT) is still not sufficiently solved and needs to be improved. Six main impurities, drupacine, cephalotaxine, desmethylcephalotaxinone, harringtonine, 3-O-acetyl-cephalotaxine and 2'R,3'S-isoharringtonine were traced during HHT drug production by HPLC and LC-MS analyses. Additionally, we were able to isolate and identify three undescribed key trace impurities, neohomoharringtonines A–C. Exemplified by China's installation of its National Supervisory Commission, the rise and fall of the Chinese anti-corruption apparatus remains puzzlingly changeable, which contrasts with the calls for its institutionalization. For a country known for informal politics, the role played by politicians behind such a seemingly irregular evolution remains inadequately examined. This research attempts to explain the elite struggle's influence on Chinese watchdog agencies using a factional framework. From a historical institutional perspective, this research summarizes several patterns of the Leninist party chief's interaction with watchdog agencies in different factional structures governing the institutional evolution. The analysis finds that the agency's power is contingent on its factional relationship with the chief, and only specific structures favor "super" watchdog agencies. This research adds to the theoretical understanding of how contingencies shape institutional development and underlines empirical facts about the vulnerability of Chinese anti-corruption institutions.
