Researchers from Columbia University have developed a method called LAVA-Knock to reduce confounding in genetic correlation analysis due to cross-trait assortative mating. This method preserves local and long-range linkage disequilibrium, significantly reducing bias in genome-wide association studies for 630 trait pairs. The study shows a positive correlation between the reduction in local genetic correlations and cross-mate phenotype correlations, particularly in traits like education and intelligence, education and alcohol consumption, and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and depression.
