Abstract: We report the first measurement of the azimuthal anisotropy of J$/\psi$ at forward rapidity ($1.2<|\eta|<2.2$) in Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The data were collected by the PHENIX experiment in 2014 and 2016 with integrated luminosity of 14.5~nb$^{-1}$. The second Fourier coefficient ($v_2$) of the azimuthal distribution of $J/\psi$ is determined as a function of the transverse momentum ($p_T$) using the event-plane method. The measurements were performed for several selections of collision centrality: 0\%--50\%, 10\%--60\%, and 10\%-40\%. We find that in all cases the values of $v_2(p_T)$, which quantify the elliptic flow of J$/\psi$, are consistent with zero. The results are consistent with measurements at midrapidity, indicating no significant elliptic flow of the J$/\psi$ within the quark-gluon-plasma medium at collision energies of $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV., Comment: 369 authors from 72 institutions, 12 pages, 7 figures, 5 tables. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review C. Abstract: The $J/\psi$ and $\psi(2S)$ charmonium states, composed of $c\bar{c}$ quark pairs and known since the 1970s, are widely believed to serve as ideal probes to test quantum chromodynamics in high-energy hadronic interactions. However, there is not yet a complete understanding of the charmonium-production mechanism. Recent measurements of $J/\psi$ production as a function of event charged-particle multiplicity at the collision energies of both the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) show enhanced $J/\psi$ production yields with increasing multiplicity. One potential explanation for this type of dependence is multiparton interactions (MPI). We carry out the first measurements of self-normalized $J/\psi$ yields and the $\psi(2S)$ to $J/\psi$ ratio at both forward and backward rapidities as a function of self-normalized charged-particle multiplicity in $p$$+$$p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV. In addition, detailed {\sc pythia} studies tuned to RHIC energies were performed to investigate the MPI impacts. We find that the PHENIX data at RHIC are consistent with recent LHC measurements and can only be described by {\sc pythia} calculations that include MPI effects. The forward and backward $\psi(2S)$ to $J/\psi$ ratio, which serves as a unique and powerful approach to study final-state effects on charmonium production, is found to be less dependent on the charged-particle multiplicity., Comment: 301 authors from 69 institutions, 8 pages, 3 figures. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review D Letters. Abstract: The PHENIX experiment measured the centrality dependence of two-pion Bose-Einstein correlation functions in $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$~GeV Au$+$Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The data are well represented by L\'evy-stable source distributions. The extracted source parameters are the correlation-strength parameter $\lambda$, the L\'evy index of stability $\alpha$, and the L\'evy-scale parameter $R$ as a function of transverse mass $m_T$ and centrality. The $\lambda(m_T)$ parameter is constant at larger values of $m_T$, but decreases as $m_T$ decreases. The L\'evy scale parameter $R(m_T)$ decreases with $m_T$ and exhibits proportionality to the length scale of the nuclear overlap region. The L\'evy exponent $\alpha(m_T)$ is independent of $m_T$ within uncertainties in each investigated centrality bin, but shows a clear centrality dependence. At all centralities, the L\'evy exponent $\alpha$ is significantly different from that of Gaussian ($\alpha=2$) or Cauchy ($\alpha=1$) source distributions. Comparisons to the predictions of Monte-Carlo simulations of resonance-decay chains show that in all but the most peripheral centrality class (50%-60%), the obtained results are inconsistent with the measurements, unless a significant reduction of the in-medium mass of the $\eta'$ meson is included. In each centrality class, the best value of the in-medium $\eta'$ mass is compared to the mass of the $\eta$ meson, as well as to several theoretical predictions that consider restoration of $U_A(1)$ symmetry in hot hadronic matter., Comment: 401 authors from 75 institutions, 20 pages, 15 figures, 2 tables. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review C. Abstract: High-momentum two-particle correlations are a useful tool for studying jet-quenching effects in the quark-gluon plasma. Angular correlations between neutral-pion triggers and charged hadrons with transverse momenta in the range 4--12~GeV/$c$ and 0.5--7~GeV/$c$, respectively, have been measured by the PHENIX experiment in 2014 for Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$~GeV. Suppression is observed in the yield of high-momentum jet fragments opposite the trigger particle, which indicates jet suppression stemming from in-medium partonic energy loss, while enhancement is observed for low-momentum particles. The ratio and differences between the yield in Au$+$Au collisions and $p$$+$$p$ collisions, $I_{AA}$ and $\Delta_{AA}$, as a function of the trigger-hadron azimuthal separation, $\Delta\phi$, are measured for the first time at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Abstract: We conducted measurements of $K^- + {^3{\rm He}} \to \pi \!Y \!N + N'$ reactions using a $1~{\rm GeV}/c$ $K^-$-beam, with the objective of understanding the broad decay width of $\bar{K} \!N \!N$ (approximately twice as broad as that of $\Lambda(1405)$ considered to be the $\bar{K} \!N$ quasi-bound state). We successfully reproduced distributions of the $\pi \! Y \! N$ invariant mass and momentum transfer for $\pi \! Y \! N$ using model fitting functions for $\bar{K} \!N \!N$ formation and quasi-free $\bar{K}$ absorption (${\rm QF}_{\bar{K}-{\rm abs}}$) processes. The model can describe the experimental data quite well, and four $\bar{K} \! N \! N \to \pi \! Y \! N $ cross-sections were obtained. The results indicate that mesonic decay is the dominant decay branch of $\bar{K} \! N \! N$. The results also suggest that $\Gamma_{\pi \Lambda N} \sim \Gamma_{\pi \Sigma N}$, which indicates that the $I_{\bar{K} \! N}=1$ absorption channel, in addition to the $I_{\bar{K} \! N}=0$ absorption channel, substantially contribute to the $\bar{K} \! N \! N$ decay, making the $\bar{K} \! N \! N$ state approximately twice as unstable as $\Lambda$(1405).

8. Acute cholangitis caused by coinfection with zoonotic pathogens of Gallibacterium anatis and Enterococcus cecorum: A case report.

Abstract: Background: Gallibacterium anatis and Enterococcus cecorum are considered to be emerging infectious pathogens in poultry, particularly in the European Union. These bacteria are isolated on rare occasions from immunocompromised hosts and cause opportunistic infections associated with the ingestion of contaminated food. Here, we report the first case of G. anatis and E. cecorum coinfection in an immunocompetent host and clarify the genomic characteristics of these bacteria., Case Presentation: A 78-year-old Japanese man diagnosed with acute cholangitis as a result of a common bile duct stone was hospitalized in 2021. He was treated with endoscopic papillary large-balloon dilation and antibiotics. His blood culture was positive for G. anatis and E. cecorum. Whole-genome sequencing identified that our isolate of G. anatis belongs to a highly virulent biovar haemolytica strain and our isolate of E. cecorum had multidrug resistance genes, which have commonly been found in U.S. strains., Conclusion: A common bile duct stone that impairs bile flow is a risk factor for G. anatis and E. cecorum infection in an immunocompetent host. 9. Visualizing intraoperative transcranial motor-evoked potentials during glioma surgery for predicting postoperative paralysis prognosis.

Abstract: Purpose: The primary goals of glioma surgery are maximal tumor resection and preservation of brain function. Intraoperative motor-evoked potential (MEP) monitoring is commonly used to predict and minimize postoperative paralysis. However, studies on intraoperative MEP trends and postoperative paralysis are scarce. This study aimed to determine the relationship between intraoperative MEP trends and postoperative paralysis., Methods: This retrospective study evaluated 229 patients with supratentorial glioma without preoperative paralysis who underwent tumor resection surgery under general anesthesia at our institution between October 2019 and December 2022. Intraoperative transcranial MEP monitoring was performed, and the entire MEP trends on affected and unaffected sides was visualized. Postoperative paralysis and patient-related factors were analyzed., Results: Postoperative paralysis occurred in 36 patients, with the paralysis improving over time and being permanent in 30 and 6 patients, respectively. In the improvement group, the temporary decrease in transcranial MEP rapidly improved. Even when the MEPs were <50% of the control value, fluctuations indicating improvement were observed after the decrease. However, in the permanent paralysis group, transcranial MEP remained consistently <50% of the control value until the end of surgery, after its initial decrease. The significant factors contributing to permanent paralysis were tumor localization close to the pyramidal tract (p = 0.0304) and postoperative cerebral infarction in the pyramidal tract (p = 0.0009)., Conclusions: The overall intraoperative MEP trend can reflect the risk of postoperative paralysis during glioma surgery. 10. Integration of a fully automated flow cytometry system with high robustness into a Screening Station.

Abstract: In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for the detection of rare cells in drug discovery research, such as cells that have differentiated off-purpose or are required for immunogenicity evaluation. Since detection and quantification limits depend on the robustness of the experiment, inter-human differences in technique have a significant impact on the performance of the assay system. Here, we integrated flow cytometry into a cell experiment platform, Screening Station, to construct a robust assay system, examined each step of the flow cytometric pretreatment using Jurkat cells, and finally evaluated the overall assay performance. Cell detection rate when the experiment was performed manually was 48.8 % ± 5.7 % (CV=11.6 %) versus 73.7 %±2.0 % (CV=2.8 %) with the automated method. To further clarify the analytical performance of the automated method, 1-100 PD-1 expressing Jurkat cells were spiked with 1 × 10 5 Jurkat cells, and the lower limit of detection, linearity, and CV% were evaluated. Average detection rate was 69 %, decision count was 0.985, and lower limit of detection was 4 cells (0.004 %). We evaluated the CV% value of the number of detected cells per spiked cell and found our system to be highly robust, approximating a binomial distribution with a 69 % recovery rate. In conclusion, we have integrated the Novocyte flow cytometry system into an automated experimental platform, Screening Station, to create a fully automated flow cytometric assay system with high robustness. 11. Revision Surgery for Venous Graft Stenosis of SMA Bypass.

Abstract: A 67-year-old male with postprandial abdominal pain for 4 months obtained medical attention for severe pain. He was diagnosed with small intestinal necrosis, secondary to chronic mesenteric ischemia by CT scan. We performed the surgery including a partial resection of the small intestine and left external iliac artery to the superior mesenteric artery bypass using saphenous vein graft. His symptoms improved after surgery. However, 5 months later, abdominal pain appeared after eating. A CT scan identified graft stenosis, leading to a revascularization. A synthetic vessel was used to perform the re-bypass surgery. Postoperatively, the patient's abdominal pain improved., (@ 2024 The Editorial Committee of Annals of Vascular Diseases.)

12. Characteristics, Treatment, and Prognosis in Octogenarian and Older Patients With Acute Heart Failure in Japan　- Prospective Observational Study on Acute Pharmacotherapy and Prognosis in Management of Acute Heart Failure (POPEYE-AHF Registry).

Abstract: Background: The number of older people in Japan is increasing more quickly than in other countries; with this aging of society, the number of elderly patients hospitalized for acute heart failure (HF) is also increasing. The treatment and prognosis of acute HF may be changing, but there are insufficient recent data, especially for octogenarian and older patients., Methods and Results: This study investigated the characteristics and treatment of acute HF patients in Japan. From 2018 to 2020, 1,146 patients from 7 Tokai area hospitals were followed for at least 1 year. The mean age was 78 years. Compared with patients aged <80 years, those aged ≥80 years were more likely to be female (57.4% vs. 34.2%), have a lower body mass index (22.2 vs. 24.9 kg/m 2 ), and have HF with preserved ejection fraction (43.1% vs. 21.4%), and less likely to have HF with reduced ejection fraction (38.9% vs. 61.7%). During hospitalization, 6.5% died. After discharge, patients faced high risks of rehospitalization for HF and death (27.6 and 14.2 per 100 patient-years, respectively). Notably, prescription rates of HF medications have declined over time for all patients, but especially for those aged ≥80 years., Conclusions: Guideline-directed medical therapy should be provided based on a thorough understanding of an individual's background rather than withheld simply because of clinical inertia due to a patient's advanced age.

Abstract: The most common toxicities associated with cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 4/6 inhibitor therapy include decreased leukopenia and neutropenia due to the inhibition of CDK6 of leukocyte and neutrophil precursors in bone marrow. These hematological toxicities are more commonly observed with palbociclib administration than with abemaciclib administration, which is approximately 13 times more selective against CDK4 than CDK6. Thus, even though both successfully inhibit CDK4/6, the side effects of palbociclib and abemaciclib differ due to differences in selectivity. Recent reports have suggested an association between palbociclib and medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw; however, reports on this association are inconsistent. This study investigated the potential association of palbociclib and abemaciclib with MRONJ using the FAERS. Signals of "Osteonecrosis of jaw" were detected only in females using palbociclib (cROR 025 : 2.08). Other signals detected included stomatitis-related adverse events with abemaciclib and intraoral soft tissue damage and infection with palbociclib. As previous exploratory studies have reported MRONJ signals for bisphosphonates and denosumab, we calculated the aROR for palbociclib-induced osteonecrosis of the jaw using concomitant bisphosphonates and denosumab as covariates. A signal was detected even after adjusting for sex, age, and concomitant medications as covariates (aROR0 025 : 5.74). A proper understanding of the differences in CDK selectivity is necessary for the appropriate use of CDK4/6 inhibitors. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on CDK4/6 inhibitors and drug-related osteonecrosis of the jaw. 14. Chronic nasal inflammation early in life induces transient and long-term dysbiosis of gut microbiota in mice.

Abstract: The gut microbiota begins to colonize the host body following birth, develops during the suckling period and changes to the adult type after weaning. The early gut microbiota during the suckling period is thought to have profound effects on the host physiology throughout life but it is still unclear whether early dysbiosis is retained lifelong. Our previous study indicated that chronic nasal inflammation induces dysbiosis of gut microbiota in adult mice. In the present study, we addressed the question as to whether early exposure to chronic nasal inflammation induces dysbiosis, and if so, whether the dysbiosis is retained until adulthood and the sex differences in this effect. Male and female mice received repeated intranasal administration of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or saline twice a week from P7 to P24 and were weaned at P24. The cecal contents were obtained for 16S rRNA analysis at 2 time points: at 4 weeks (wks), just after weaning, and at maturation to adulthood at 10 wks. The body weight did not differ between saline- and LPS-treated mice till around weaning, suggesting that the mothers' milk was given similarly to all mice. At 4 wks, the beta diversity was significantly different between saline- and LPS-treated male and female mice and the composition of the gut microbiota changed in LPS-treated mice. The abundance of phylum Bacteroidota tended to decrease and that of Firmicutes increased in LPS-treated male mice, while the abundance of Deferribacterota increased in LPS-treated female mice. At 10 wks, the beta diversity was not different between saline- and LPS-treated mice, but the abundance of family Lachnospiraceae significantly decreased in LPS-treated male and female mice by LEfSe analysis. We compared these results with those in patients taking edoxaban 30 mg. 16. Effects of two types of Coccomyxa sp. KJ on in vitro ruminal fermentation, methane production, and the rumen microbiota.

Abstract: Coccomyxa sp. KJ is a unicellular green microalga that accumulates abundant lipids when cultured under nitrogen-deficient conditions (KJ1) and high nitrogen levels when cultured under nitrogen-sufficient conditions (KJ2). Considering the different characteristics between KJ1 and KJ2, they are expected to have different effects on rumen fermentation. This study aimed to determine the effects of KJ1 and KJ2 on in vitro ruminal fermentation, digestibility, CH4 production, and the ruminal microbiome as corn silage substrate condition. Five treatments were evaluated: substrate only (CON) and CON + 0.5% dry matter (DM) KJ1 (KJ1_L), 1.0% DM KJ1 (KJ1_H), 0.5% DM KJ2 (KJ2_L), and 1.0% DM KJ2 (KJ2_H). DM degradability-adjusted CH4 production was inhibited by 48.4 and 40.8% in KJ2_L and KJ2_H, respectively, compared with CON. The proportion of propionate was higher in the KJ1 treatments than the CON treatment and showed further increases in the KJ2 treatments. The abundances of Megasphaera, Succiniclasticum, Selenomonas, and Ruminobacter, which are related to propionate production, were higher in KJ2_H than in CON. The results suggested that the rumen microbiome was modified by the addition of 0.5-1.0% DM KJ1 and KJ2, resulting in increased propionate and reduced CH4 production. In particular, the KJ2 treatments inhibited ruminal CH4 production more than the KJ1 treatments. 17. A novel quadrant spatial assay reveals environmental preference in mouse spontaneous and parental behaviors.

Abstract: Environmental factors have well-documented impacts on brain development and mental health. Therefore, it is crucial to employ a reliable assay system to assess the spatial preference of model animals. In this study, we introduced an unbiased quadrant chamber assay system and discovered that parental pup-gathering behavior takes place in a very efficient manner. Furthermore, we found that test mice exhibited preferences for specific environments in both spontaneous and parental pup-gathering behavior contexts. Abstract: Case: A 27-year-old man sustained chemical burns affecting 54% of his body caused by steam and acetic acid at a dyeing factory. He developed restricted bilateral elbow and shoulder motion because of heterotopic ossification (HO) beginning 3 months after the incident. The skin healed within 1 year, but ankylosis developed because of progressing ossification. We performed HO surgical excision in 4 stages. 20. Assessment of Radiolabelled Derivatives of R954 for Detection of Bradykinin B1 Receptor in Cancer Cells: Studies on Glioblastoma Xenografts in Mice.

Abstract: Bradykinin B1 receptor (B1R) has garnered attention as a cancer therapeutic and diagnostic target. Several reports on radiolabelled derivatives of B1R antagonists have shown favourable properties as imaging agents in cells highly expressing hB1R following transfection. In the present study, we assessed whether radiolabelled probes can detect B1R endogenously expressed in cancer cells. To this end, we evaluated 111 In-labelled derivatives of a B1R antagonist ([ 111 In]In-DOTA-Ahx-R954) using glioblastoma cell lines (U87MG and U251MG) with different B1R expression levels. Cellular uptake studies showed that the specific accumulation of [ 111 In]In-DOTA-Ahx-R954 in U87MG was higher than that in U251MG, which correlated with B1R expression levels. Tissue distribution in U87MG-bearing mice revealed approximately 2-fold higher radioactivity in tumours than in the muscle in the contralateral leg. The specific accumulation of [ 111 In]In-DOTA-Ahx-R954 in the tumour was demonstrated by the reduction in the tumour-to-plasma ratios in nonlabelled R954-treated mice. Moreover, ex vivo autoradiographic images revealed that the intratumoural distribution of [ 111 In]In-DOTA-Ahx-R954 correlated with the localisation of B1R-expressing glioblastoma cells. In conclusion, we demonstrated that [ 111 In]In-DOTA-Ahx-R954 radioactivity correlated with B1R expression in glioblastoma cells, indicating that radiolabelled derivatives of the B1R antagonist could serve as promising tools for elucidating the involvement of B1R in cancer.

21. Neurolymphomatosis secondary to primary central nervous system lymphoma: illustrative case.

Abstract: Background: Neurolymphomatosis (NL) is a rare disease defined as an invasion of lymphoma into peripheral nerves, nerve roots, or nerve plexuses, including the cranial nerves. No clear treatment protocols have yet been defined for this pathology., Observations: A woman in her 40s had a primary central nervous system lymphoma diagnosed from an intracranial tumor biopsy and underwent chemotherapy and radiation therapy. After she complained of pain in the trunk and extremities, magnetic resonance imaging and [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) performed 25 months after initial diagnosis revealed multiple lesions in the nerve ganglia, plexuses, and peripheral nerves from the cervical to the sacral spinal cord. Cerebrospinal fluid cytology revealed atypical lymphocytes and lymphoma dissemination in the spinal cavity. Based on these findings, NL was diagnosed. An intrathecal antineoplastic regimen temporarily reduced abnormal uptake of FDG, but the lesion recurred. After additional high-dose methotrexate therapy, FDG accumulation in the previously identified lesions disappeared. However, peripheral neuropathic pain and paraplegia remained. The patient died 9 months after the initial diagnosis of NL., Lessons: The authors reported a case of NL following primary central nervous system lymphoma. 22. Factors associated with decreasing diffusion-weighted imaging-positive area volume after mechanical thrombectomy in patients with large early ischemic changes.

Abstract: Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the factors associated with decreasing diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) positive areas in patients with large early ischemic changes after mechanical thrombectomy (MT)., Materials and Methods: This retrospective single-center clinical study was conducted between January 2013 and December 2022. We included consecutive patients who underwent MT for acute large-vessel occlusion of the anterior circulation with low pretreatment DWI-Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Scores (ASPECTS) (0-5), effective recanalization [thrombolysis in cerebral infarction (TICI) 2b or TICI3], and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) acquired before and after MT. We measured the DWI-positive area volume before and after MT. The primary endpoint was the after/before-MT DWI-positive area-volume ratio., Results: In total, 28 patients were included in this study. Eight patients (29%) had an after/before-MT DWI-positive area-volume ratio of <1. The median mean apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) levels of the DWI-positive areas in the groups with a ratio of <1 or >1 were 717 × 10⁶ mm 2 /s and 637 × 10 6 mm 2 /s, respectively ( p = 0.011). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that ADC level (OR, 1.020 [95% confidence intervals (CIs), 1.001-1.040]; p = 0.040) was an independent predictor of a decreased DWI-positive area after MT. There was a negative correlation between the mean ADC level and the after/before-MT DWI-positive area-volume ratio ( p < 0.001, | ρ | = 0.650), and the mean pretreatment ADC cutoff level was 649 × 10 6 mm 2 /s (area under the curve (AUC) = 0.806) for predicting a volume ratio of <1., Conclusions: The mean ADC level before-MT correlated with the after/before-MT DWI-positive area-volume ratio. 23. A Case of Photoimmunotherapy for Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Requiring Emergency Tracheostomy.

Abstract: Introduction: Photoimmunotherapy (PIT) is a treatment wherein intravenous cetuximab sarotalocan sodium is administered followed by laser light irradiation. This treatment exhibits a specific antitumor effect if in tumors expressing the epidermal growth factor receptor, regardless of the carcinoma [Mitsunaga et al.: Nat Med. 2011;17(12):1685-91, Sato et al.: ACS Cent Sci. 2018;4(11):1559-69, Nakajima et al.: Cancer Sci. 2018;109(9):2889-96]. The current indications are unresectable, locally advanced, or locally recurrent head and neck cancer. If standard treatments, such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy, are available, they are given priority. However, a significant concern in PIT is the occurrence of airway emergencies related to pharyngeal edema. Prophylactic tracheostomy is often performed in cases of PIT involving the root of the tongue, hypopharynx, or larynx., Case Presentation: In this study, we administered transoral PIT to a patient diagnosed with radiation-induced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) cT1N0M0 stage I). Although previous case reports and our own experiences did not report airway emergencies following PIT for nasopharyngeal carcinoma, a unique case occurred in our study [Omura et al.: Auris Nasus Larynx. 2023;50(4):641-5, Kushihashi et al.: Int J Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg. 2022;11(5, Sep):258-65]. The patient experienced poor oxygenation and a decreased level of consciousness early in the morning following the laser irradiation. Nasal endoscopy revealed airway narrowing due to upper airway edema, and intubation was challenging. Abstract: Objective: Hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase (HIF-PH) inhibitors are a new class of anti-anemia agents. We retrospectively evaluated the safety and efficacy of HIF-PH inhibitors in patients with heart failure (HF) complicated by anemia associated with chronic kidney disase. HIF-PH inhibitor treatment was initiated in 32 patients with chronic HF complicated by renal anemia and were followed up for 3 months., Results: Hematocrit and hemoglobin levels markedly improved 3 months after HIF-PH inhibitor treatment. However, levels of NT-proBNP, which is an indicator of HF, did not decrease considerably. Based on the rate of change in NT-proBNP, we divided the patients into "responder" and "non-responder" groups. The results showed that considerably more patients had a ferritin level of less than 100 ng/mL in the non-responder group at baseline. There were substantially more patients with TSAT of less than 20% in the non-responder group at 1 month after HIF-PH inhibitor treatment. The cut-off values to maximize the predictive power of ferritin level at baseline and TSAT value at 1 month after treatment were 41.8 ng/ml and 20.75. HIF-PH inhibitor treatment can be expected to be effective for improving both anemia and HF if ferritin≥41.8 ng/ml at baseline or TSAT≥20.75 at 1 month after treatment., (© 2024. The Author(s).)

Abstract: Ticks pose a substantial public health risk as they transmit various pathogens. This concern is related to the adept blood-sucking strategy of ticks, underscored by the action of the anticoagulant, madanin, which is known to exhibit an approximately 1000-fold increase in anticoagulant activity following sulfation of its two tyrosine residues, Tyr51 and Tyr54. Despite this knowledge, the molecular mechanism underlying sulfation by tick tyrosylprotein sulfotransferase (TPST) remains unclear. In this study, we successfully prepared tick TPST as a soluble recombinant enzyme. We clarified the method by which this enzyme proficiently sulfates tyrosine residues in madanin. Biochemical analysis using a substrate peptide based on madanin and tick TPST, along with the analysis of the crystal structure of the complex and docking simulations, revealed a sequential sulfation process. Initial sulfation at the Tyr51 site augments binding, thereby facilitating efficient sulfation at Tyr54. Beyond direct biochemical implications, these findings considerably improve our understanding of tick blood-sucking strategies. Abstract: A 20-year-old woman presented to our hospital with abdominal pain. Abdominal computed tomography revealed multiple masses in the upper jejunum, which were suspected as lipomas. Partial resection of the small intestine, including the masses, was performed on the same day due to intussusception secondary to the masses. Pathological examination revealed that the masses consisted of mucosa and edematous submucosa with multiple dilated blood vessels and lymphatic ducts without muscularis propria. The masses were diagnosed as multiple muco-submucosal elongated polyps (MSEP), a type of non-neoplastic polyp. MSEP was originally named colonic MSEP, but with the development of endoscopic techniques and imaging tests, similar polyps have been reported to occur not only in the colon but also in the entire intestinal tract. In this case, multiple MSEPs in the upper jejunum caused intussusception. 27. Breast milk concentrations of acetaminophen and diclofenac - unexpectedly high mammary transfer of the general-purpose drug acetaminophen.

Abstract: Background: Breastfeeding is considered to be the most effective way of ensuring the health and survival of newborns. However, mammary transfer of drugs administered to mothers to breastfeeding infants remains a pressing concern. Acetaminophen and diclofenac sodium are widely prescribed analgesics for postpartum pain relief, but there have been few recent reports on the mammary transfer of these drugs, despite advances in analytic techniques., Methods: We conducted a study on 20 postpartum mothers from August 2019-March 2020. Blood and milk samples from participants were analyzed using liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry within 24 hours after oral administration of acetaminophen and diclofenac sodium. The area under the concentration-time curve (AUC) was calculated from the concentration curve obtained by a naive pooled-data approach., Results: For acetaminophen, AUC was 36,053 ng/mL.h and 37,768 ng/mL.h in plasma and breast milk, respectively, with a milk-to-plasma drug concentration ratio of 1.048. For diclofenac, the AUC was 0.227 ng/mL.h and 0.021 ng/mL.h, in plasma and breast milk, respectively, with a milk-to-plasma drug concentration ratio of 0.093., Conclusions: While diclofenac sodium showed low mammary transfer, acetaminophen showed a relatively high milk-to-plasma drug concentration ratio. Given recent studies suggesting potential connections between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and risks to developmental prognosis in children, we believe that adequate information regarding the fact that acetaminophen is easily transferred to breast milk should be provided to mothers., (© 2024. Abstract: Background: Rhabdomyolysis is characterized by the destruction and necrosis of skeletal muscle tissue, resulting in acute kidney injury (AKI). Recombinant antithrombin (rAT) has DNA repair and vascular endothelial-protection properties. Herein, we investigated whether rAT therapy has beneficial effects against rhabdomyolysis-induced AKI. Ten-week-old male B6 mice were injected with 5 mL/kg of 50% glycerol intramuscularly in the left thigh after 24 h of fasting to create a rhabdomyolysis mouse model. Further, 750 IU/kg rAT was injected intraperitoneally at 24 and 72 h after the rhabdomyolysis model was established. The mice were euthanized after 96 h for histological analysis. Saline was administered to mice in the control group., Results: Blood tests show elevated serum creatinine, urea nitrogen, and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin levels in rhabdomyolysis. Loss of tubular epithelial cell nuclei and destruction of the tubular luminal surface structure was observed in the untreated group, which improved with rAT treatment. Immunostaining for Ki-67 showed increased Ki-67-positive nuclei in the tubular epithelial cells in the rAT group, suggesting that rAT may promote tubular epithelial cell regeneration. The microvilli of the brush border of the renal tubules were shed during rhabdomyolysis, and rAT treatment reduced this injury. The vascular endothelial glycocalyx, which is usually impaired by rhabdomyolysis, became functional following rAT treatment., Conclusions: Treatment with rAT suppressed rhabdomyolysis-induced AKI, suggesting that rAT therapy may be a novel therapeutic approach., (© 2024. 29. Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor of the Anus: A Case Report.

Abstract: Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) are neoplastic lesions characterized by the proliferation of spindle cells with myofibroblastic features and lymphocyte infiltration. Primary lesions can develop in several locations but rarely arise in the colon as described herein. The present case was that of a 69-year-old woman who visited our hospital with complaints of bloody bowel discharge and a prolapsed mass from the anus. A 20-mm tumor was identified on visual and digital examination. Lower gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a pedunculated, elevated lesion above the dentate line, which showed contrast enhancement on abdominal computed tomography. The patient was preoperatively diagnosed with an anal polyp, which was resected transanally. During the procedure, a mobile tumor coated by anal epithelium was observed at the 11 o'clock position above the dentate line. Deeper parts of the tumor were contiguous with the internal anal sphincter (IAS) muscle. Suspecting a neoplastic lesion, we resected the mass en bloc with part of the IAS. Tumor histopathology after surgery led to a final diagnosis of an IMT of the anus. IMT is difficult to diagnose preoperatively. Abstract: Introduction: Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) has been to be involved in the uptake and regulation of dopamine 2 receptor (D2R), a G protein-coupled receptor expressed in various brain regions. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the relationship between ALK inhibitors and seizures is an important issue. This study investigated the relationship between ALK inhibitors and seizures., Methods: This study investigated the relationship between ALK inhibitors and seizures through a disproportionality analysis using the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS). The target drugs were the ALK inhibitors crizotinib, ceritinib, alectinib, brigatinib, and lorlatinib. The seizures covered were defined high-level group term (HLGT): "Seizures (incl. subtype)" including high-level term (HLT): "seizures and seizure disorders NEC." This study used the information component (IC), a signal score, as a Bayesian statistical method for disproportionality analysis. The signal detection criteria used in this study were the same as those reported previously: a lower limit of 95% credible interval (CrI) for IC >0., Results: The signal scores of '"seizures and seizure disorders not elsewhere classified (NEC)" "for each ALK inhibitor were crizotinib (IC: -0.00052, 95% CrI: -0.38-0.27), ceritinib (IC: 1.18, 95% CrI: 0.68-1.54), alectinib (IC: 0.68, 95% CrI: 0.19-1.02), brigatinib (IC: 1.04, 95% CrI: 0.32-1.54), and lorlatinib (IC: 0.82, 95% CrI: 0.11-1.32). On the other hand, "generalized tonic-clonic seizures," "partial simple seizures NEC," "absence seizures," and "partial complex seizures" had no or few reported cases, and no signal was detected., Conclusion: To our knowledge, this is the first report to evaluate the relationship between ALK inhibitors and seizures using post-marketing surveillance data.
