Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have gained a lot of attention due to their high efficiency and low cost. In this research paper, a methylammonium tin iodide (CH3NH3SnI3) based solar cell was simulated using a one-dimensional solar cell capacitance simulation (SCAPS-1D) tool. The SCAPS-1D tool is based on Poisson and the semiconductor equations. After thorough investigation, the initial device presents the following parameters; power conversion efficiency (PCE)=15.315%, fill factor (FF)=64.580%, current density (Jsc)=29.152 mA/cm2, and open circuit voltage (Voc)=0.813 V. The effect of absorber and ETL thicknesses were explored systematically. The performance of the simulated device was significantly influenced by the thickness of the absorber and ETL. The optimized absorber thickness was 0.5 µm and the ETL thickness was 0.02 µm, giving rise to an optimized PCE of 15.411%, FF of 63.525%, Jsc of 29.812 mA/cm2, and Voc of 0.814 V. Additionally, the effect of temperature on the optimized device was evaluated and found that it affects the performance of the device. This model shows the prospect of CH3NH3SnI3 as a perovskite material to produce toxic-free environment-friendly solar cells with high efficiency.

Many nations have long been actively supporting the development of electric vehicles (EVs). The adoption of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) actions in that direction have been accelerated to ensure that the 24% of the CO2 emission of the transport sector is brought down to the barest minimum. The focus of this paper is on the necessary measures and effective ways of acquiring EV technologies for developing countries such as Nigeria. The steps needed towards the development of the EV sector in Nigeria and the research and development strategies needed to address the challenges facing Nigeria in its quest to build a formidable EV industry are x-rayed. Finally, the opportunity for energy diversification towards confronting the challenges occasioned by inadequate electricity supply and distribution on the EV value chain is identified and analysed with recommendations made on the way forward. Since the EV industry cannot be true of zero-emission until its source of electricity is of zero-emission, the inherent potentials of using renewable electricity in the form of hydrogen fuel cells and harnessing the potential for solar photovoltaics (PV) of about 210 GW and concentrated solar power of approximately 88.7 GW is highlighted and recommended for the evolving EV market in Nigeria.

The development of efficient metal doped semiconductors for Photovoltaic applications has gained a lot of research attention. In this present paper, pure and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs)-modified TiO2 nanocrystals (NCs) with different amount of AgNPs (say 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 µL) were achieved and the effects of AgNPs on the TiO2 NCs were explored systematically. The optical, structural and morphological properties were probed using UV-visible spectrophotometer, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results of the optical studies showed a characteristic peak of TiO2 and the redshifting of the peak position was observed by introducing AgNPs. The synergetic effects from AgNPs and TiO2 results to diminished band gap. The XRD result confirmed the formation of a tetragonal anatase TiO2 phase with a decrease in crystallite size with increasing AgNPs content. The SEM images show enhanced nucleation and film growth with presence of shining surface which can be seen to contribute to good photon management by enhancing light scattering. The unadulterated TiO2 and AgNPs-modified TiO2 have spherical morphology and uniform size distribution ranging from 20 to 30 nm. This study established the view that surface modification of TiO2 with AgNPs is a viable approach towards achieving an efficient light photocatalyst.

Perovskite solar cells have garnered significant attention from solar cell researchers due to their potential for achieving high efficiency, primarily attributed to their exceptional Electron Transport layer (ETL). One of the key elements of perovskite solar cells for transporting electrons to generate current is the ETL material. Moreover, there is a promising avenue for enhancing stability and reducing fabrication costs by substituting the transport layer. In this study, TiO2 and SnO2 were used as ETL materials in the architecture of perovskite solar cells for a comparative analysis between two devices featuring distinct structures: TiO2/CH3NH3PbI3/Spiro-OMeTAD and SnO2/CH3NH3PbI3/Spiro-OMeTAD. To evaluate the performance of each electron transport layer (ETL), the SCAPS 1D tool was employed. The investigation involved varying the thickness of the electron transport layers, interface defect density and working temperature, allowing for a comprehensive assessment of key parameters such as voltage at open circuit (Voc), short circuit current density (Jsc), fill factor (FF), and overall efficiency (PCE%). Remarkably, when employing SnO2 as the ETL, the achieved efficiency stands at 10.10 %. In contrast, utilizing TiO2 as the ETL yields a slightly higher efficiency of 12.84%. These findings underline the nuanced influence of transport layer materials on the overall performance of perovskite solar cells.

Background and Aim: One Health (OH) approach is crucial for the effective management of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases and other public health threats. A meta-analysis was conducted to explore the benefits and challenges encountered in the practical implementation of multisectoral coordination in the fight against public health threats and to identify similarities between countries in the practical implementation of multisectoral coordination and cooperation across sectors in OH. Materials and Methods: To identify relevant studies published globally between 2010 and 2023, a literature search was conducted online using Google Scholar and PubMed search engines. Inclusion criteria were adopted based on key search terms “One Health,” “multisectoral coordination,” “One Health framework,” and related terms “multisectoral collaboration” and “multidisciplinary.” Unpublished manuscripts, dissertations, and conference reports were excluded from the review. A total of 307 articles were retrieved. Titles, abstracts, and keywords were screened for inclusion criteria. We extracted and analyzed 46 full-text articles published in English. Unpublished manuscripts, dissertations, and conference reports were excluded from the study. Results: This study found that most countries have similar challenges that hamper the coordination of OH activities implementation. Of the 46 articles reviewed, 69.6% (n = 32) focused on the benefits of adopting the OH approach and 73.9% (n = 34) focused on multisectoral coordination and collaboration among sectors. In addition, 58.7% (n = 27) of the articles indicated that governments need to invest more resources in OH implementation, and 50% (n = 23) proposed that policies, guidelines, and plans should be integrated to facilitate multisectoral coordination and collaboration. In addition to inadequate coordination and funding, other reported challenges were limited knowledge (34.8%) (n = 16) and inadequate resources (32.6%) (n = 15). In addition, 21.7% (n = 10) highlighted different sectoral priorities and interests as obstacles to effective coordination in the implementation of OH activities. Conclusion: Multisectoral coordination plays a key role in the effective management of public health threats through OH. The creation of mechanisms for regular communication, the promotion of mutual trust, and the strengthening of relations between sectors will enhance cooperation. The similarity in challenges across regions observed in this study calls for countries across regions to prioritize OH operationalization and collaboration among sectors, strengthen collaboration, and synergize activities to enhance future changes in the mitigation of public health threats.

Abstract Citizen science projects are expanding globally, with the African continent, particularly Nigeria, registering significant growth. Here, we document and analyse novel operations of the Nigerian Bird Atlas Project (NIBAP), 2015–2022. This project has employed the use of ornithologists, mainly trained at the A. P. Leventis Ornithological Research Institute (APLORI) located in Jos, Nigeria, and its 28 bird clubs established across Nigeria to enlist 827 bird enthusiasts that contribute regular and near real‐time data about bird distribution and relative abundance in the country. Interestingly, NiBAP has recorded about 75% of the bird species known from Nigeria in only about 50% of Nigeria's total surface area, including 39 nationally threatened species. The Common Bulbul Pycnonotus barbatus, Laughing Dove Spilopelia senegalensis, and Grey‐backed Camaroptera Camaroptera brevicaudata were the most commonly recorded species, while Amurum Forest Reserve, Rennajj Fish Farm, and Obudu Cattle Ranch were the most surveyed sites during the period. Thus, our approach reveals how to increase involvement of nature enthusiasts, ornithologists, and a regional research institute to build local capacity and contribute rich information necessary to alleviate the lack of distributional data about Afrotropical avifauna. We strongly recommend our approach to boost other citizen science projects across Africa and beyond to address the huge lack of biodiversity data, create public awareness, and foster conservation education.

Photovoltaic technology has been widely recognized as a means to advance green energy solutions in the sub-Saharan region. In the real-time operation of solar modules, temperature plays a crucial role, making it necessary to evaluate the thermal impact on the performance of the solar devices, especially in high-insolation environments. Hence, this paper investigates the effect of operating temperature on the performance of two types of organometallic halide perovskites (OHP) - formamidinium tin iodide (FASnI3) and methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI3). The solar cells were evaluated under a typical Nigerian climate in two different cities before and after graphene passivation. Using a one-dimensional solar capacitance simulation software (SCAPS-1D) program, the simulation results show that graphene passivation improved the conversion efficiency of the solar cells by 0.51 % (FASnI3 device) and 3.11 % (MAPbI3 device). The presence of graphene played a vital role in resisting charge recombination and metal diffusion, which are responsible for the losses in OHP. Thermal analysis revealed that the MAPbI3 device exhibited an increased fill factor (FF) in the temperature range of 20–64 °C, increasing the power conversion efficiency (PCE). This ensured that the MAPbI3 solar cell performed better in the city and the season with harsher thermal conditions (Kaduna, dry season). Thus, MAPbI3 solar cells can thrive excellently in environments where the operating temperature is below 65 °C. Overall, this study shows that the application of OHP devices in sub-Saharan climatic conditions is empirically possible with the right material modification.

Telecommunications plays a crucial role in facilitating the transmission of voice, data, and multimedia over extended distances. This paper explores the significance of telecommunications, particularly in Nigeria, the largest ICT market in Africa, where telecom and internet usage hold substantial importance. However, the sector's heavy reliance on fossil fuels has resulted in environmental challenges. This research underscores the imperative to transition to clean energy sources, aligning with the commitment of the Nigerian Communications Commission. The paper presents a case study of a solar hybrid system designed to enhance Base Transceiver Station (BTS) coverage, emphasizing notable challenges such as elevated costs and the industry's familiarity with fossil fuels. The optimal power configuration for a BTS, as identified in the study, features a 16kW PV (photovoltaic) array, 14kW Diesel Generator (DG), 32kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), and Utility, achieving the lowest Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE) at $0.255/kWh. The production summary for the Solar PV array is 24,767 kWh/year (76%), the Diesel Generator is 1,250 kWh/year (4%), and the Utility is 6,503 kWh/year (20%). Consequently, the total estimated production is 32,520 kWh/year, constituting 100% of the energy requirement for the BTS. The study proposes solutions to challenges, including local clean energy component production, capacity building, and regulatory alignment. In conclusion, the adoption of clean energy is deemed essential for sustainability, with recommendations for policy adoption and efficient equipment utilisation.

Artificial intelligence (AI) techniques are increasingly used in internal combustion engines (ICEs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) research, mainly for prediction, control, optimization, and classification task. The present study is a bibliometric-based review involving analyzing 1,800 documents using VOSviewer (v1.6.19) and Excel sourced from the Scopus database between 2014 and 2023. The VOSviewer methodology involved importing bibliographic data to analyze the most prolific countries, authors and construct co-occurrences of keywords. The most influential publication was attributed to Das, H.S.; Li, S.; Rahman, M.  M. and Tan, C.  W. with the highest number of citations of 446, published in 2020. Applied Energy emerges as the most prolific journal, with 1508 citations across 34 documents. Similarly, the United States, leading with 298 publications, also has the highest number of citations at 4118. China follows closely, with 262 publications and 3667 citations, securing the second position. Italy ranks third, contributing 149 publications that garnered 2236 citations. The keyword analysis portrayed that the emerging trend was found to correlate majorly with ‘machine learning algorithms’, ‘hybrid electric vehicles’, ‘control’ and ‘multi-objective optimization’. We derive a deterministic mathematical model that scrutinizes the dynamics of cholera pathogen carriers and the hygiene consciousness of individuals, before the illness, during its prevalence, and after the disease's outbreaks. The dynamics can effectively help in curtailing the disease, but its effects had less coverage in the literature. Boundedness of the solution of the model, its existence, and uniqueness are ascertained. Effects of cholera pathogen carriers and hygiene consciousness of individuals in controlling the disease or allowing its further spread are analyzed. The differential transformation method is used to obtain series solutions of the differential equations that make the system of the model. Simulations of the series solutions of the model are carried out and displayed in graphs. The dynamics of the concerned state variables and parameters in the model are interpreted via the obtained graphs. It is observed that higher hygiene consciousness of individuals can drastically reduce catching cholera disease at onset and further spread of its infections in the population, this in turn, shortens the period of cholera epidemic. A significant increment in the consumption of plastic has been monitored globally in recent years, which has led to a high amount of plastic waste. Given its benefits on both an economic and ecological level, recycling plastic waste to create new materials like concrete is considered to be one of the finest ways to get rid of plastic waste. The objective of this paper was to examine the workability, durability, and mechanical strength of concrete with partial replacement of coarse aggregates with plastic waste using standard procedure. The percentages of plastic waste used to replace coarse aggregate were 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%. Lastly, the mechanical characteristics of the concrete mix specimens was determined by testing them using a testometric and compressor machine. The specimens are then compared with the conventional mix. The test results demonstrated that the compressive strength exhibited a decreasing trend. For mixes ranging from 0% to 15%, the compressive strength varies from 35.66 to 17.88 N/mm2, however the flexural strength significantly decreases when 15% of the coarse aggregate is replaced with plastic waste. It can be concluded that reusing plastic waste as an aggregate during the concrete-making process reduces waste and conserves resources. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We introduce a new, to our knowledge, method to measure the arrival time of photons with a sub-nanosecond precision using two conventional cameras. The method exploits the finite rise/fall time of the electro-optical global shutter implemented in modern complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) cameras. By mapping the arrival time to the normalized brightness, the time of flight (ToF) can be determined with a precision better than 0.3 ns. The method can be implemented at the pixel level of a camera and thus simultaneously provides a high spatial resolution to achieve high-performing three-dimensional (3D) imaging.

There is a need to constantly assess the awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension in Nigeria. This study determined the frequency of undiagnosed hypertension across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria. We conducted an opportunistic screening of adults aged at least 18 years in the month of May 2021. Participants were recruited by trained volunteers using the May Measurement Month protocol. Blood pressure (BP) was measured using validated digital sphygmomanometers. We defined hypertension as systolic BP ≥ 140 and/or diastolic BP ≥ 90 mmHg and/or the use of BP-lowering medications. A total of 9361 participants (51.5% females) with a mean age of 40.7 ± 15.5 years were screened. Hypertension was present in 3192 (34.1%) of the participants. About half (1491, 46.7%) of the hypertensives were unaware of the diagnosis. Among the 3192 participants with hypertension, less than half (1540, 48.2%) were on antihypertensive medications, while only 36.4% of those on antihypertensive medications had their BP controlled (<140/90 mmHg). About one-third of Nigerians in this opportunistic screening had hypertension, with about half of them being unaware of their diagnosis while only about two out of every five on antihypertensive medications had controlled BP. Background: People living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) are prone to other health issues that may result from the disease or antiretroviral medicines. These persons experience other psychosocial aspects of the illness, which may negatively affect their quality of life and overall treatment outcomes. This study assessed the medication-related burden and virological response of adult PLHIV., Method: This cross-sectional study involved 417 HIV-positive adults who had been on combined antiretroviral therapy for at least a year at the State Specialist Hospital Gombe. Nigeria. Patient medication experience was measured using the Living with Medication Questionnaire version-3 (LMQ-3). Virological suppression was assessed at viral loads <1000 copies/ml and 20 copies/ml for undetectable HIV RNA levels. The LMQ-3 scores were compared with the participants' characteristics using independent t -tests or one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Regression analyses was employed to identify the predictors of viral suppression and medication-related burden. P value <0.05 at 95% confidence interval was considered statistically significant., Results: Of the 417 PLHIV included in this study, 271 (65%) were classified as WHO Stage 1 ART initiation, 93.8% achieved viral suppression with 291 (69.5%) whom were females. The majority of patients 382 (91.6%) were on a dolutegravir-based regimen, had no tuberculosis diagnosis at antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation (82.5%) and were 6-10 years on ART (46.3%). Only 67.6% of the population had a moderate medication-related burden. Female sex ( p  < 0.0005), unsuppressed viral load ( p  = 0.01), second-line ART ( p  = 0.03), tuberculosis at ART initiation ( p  = 0.02), and employment ( p  = 0.003) were significantly associated with medication-related burden. The predictor of viral suppression was high degree of medication-related burden (AOR, 0.12; 95% CI, 0.02-0.59) while unsuppressed viral load ( p  = 0.01) and female gender ( p  = 0.002) were independent predictors of medication related burden., Conclusion: The findings from this study revealed that majority of the patients achieved viral suppression with moderate degree of medication-related burden. We demonstrate an improved two-camera system for multi-mass and multi-hit three-dimensional (3D) momentum imaging of ions. The imaging system employs two conventional complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor cameras. We have shown previously that the system can time slice ion Newton spheres with a time resolution of 8.8 ns, limited by camera timing jitter [J. Chem. Phys., 158, 191104 (2023)]. In this work, a jitter correction method was developed to suppress the camera jitter and improve the time resolution to better than 2 ns. With this resolution, full 3D momentum distributions of ions can be obtained. We further show that this method can detect two ions with different masses when utilizing both the rising and falling edges of the cameras., (© 2024 Author(s). The study aims to investigate various aspects of synthesized mono-chalcone compounds 5 and 8 concerning breast cancer, including network pharmacology, molecular docking, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, antiproliferative effects, and gene expressions. Initially, the compounds underwent a network pharmacology analysis targeting breast cancer-related targets, with MalaCards, SwissTargetPrediction, and PharmMapper identifying 70 breast cancer target receptors. Subsequently, protein-protein interaction (PPI) network analysis revealed two distinct target gene clusters. Survival analysis identified seven significant target genes following Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment and Gene Ontology (GO) evaluation. Molecular docking and MD simulations were conducted on these seven target genes (AKT2, BRAF, ESR1, FGFR1, IGF1, IGF1R, and KIT), revealing that compound 8 exhibited the highest binding affinities, as well as better stability and compactness when interacting with the targeted proteins. Next, the compounds underwent cell viability assay and gene expression analysis to validate the in silico findings. Both compounds demonstrated the ability to suppress breast cancer proliferation, with compound 8 showing increased selectivity in targeting breast cancer cells while causing minimal harm to normal breast cells. The suppression of breast cancer cell proliferation was attributed to decreased expression levels of AKT2, BRAF, FGFR1, IGF1, IGF1R, KIT, and ESR1. In view of the increasing global demand and consumption of gold, there is a growing need and effort to extract gold from alternative sources besides conventional mining, e.g., from water. This drive is mainly due to the potential benefits for the economy and the environment as these sources contain large quantities of the precious metal that can be utilized. Wastewater is one of these valuable sources in which the gold concentration can be in the ppb range. However, the effective selective recovery and recycling of ultratrace amounts of this metal remain a challenge. In this article, we describe the development of a covalent imine-based organic framework with pores containing thioanisole functional groups (TTASDFPs) formed by the condensation of a triazine-based triamine and an aromatic dialdehyde. The sulfur-functionalized pores served as effective chelating agents to bind Au 3+ ions, as evidenced by the uptake of more than 99% of the 9 ppm Au 3+ solution within 2 min. This is relatively fast kinetics compared with other adsorbents reported for gold adsorption. TTASDFP also showed a high removal capacity of 245 mg·g -1 and a clear selectivity toward gold ions. More importantly, the material can capture gold at concentrations as low as 1 ppb.

Purpose  Recently developed digital positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scanners (digital PET [dPET]) have given new dimensions to molecular imaging. dPET scanner has very high sensitivity, spatial resolution, and image contrast that leads to increased uptake of signal in small-volume structures like pituitary gland (PG) making them visible on PET/CT scan even in absence of any pathology. Adequate knowledge of physiological fluoro-2 deoxy D glucose uptake in PG is required in interpretation of dPET for correct diagnosis and reducing unnecessary additional imaging. The aim of this study is to evaluate the frequency of physiological PG uptake on dPET. Material and Methods  Eighty-eight subjects (mean age, 54.44 ± 14.18 years; range, 26-84 years; 63 females and 25 males) with normal PG on magnetic resonance imaging brain and imaged within 6 months on dPET were included in this research study. Out of 88 patients, 20 control subjects (mean age, 58.15 ± 11.08 years: 15 females and 5 males) underwent PET/CT on conventional PET. All images were acquired with similar and standard acquisition protocol and reconstruction done with Time of flight with Point spread function. PG uptake was compared visually and quantitatively. Results  PG uptake was seen in 43 patients (48.8%). Out of 43 patients, 31 (72%) showed low uptake, 11 (26%) showed intermediate grade of uptake, and 1 patient (2%) showed intermediate-to-high uptake and was categorized as high-grade uptake. In the control group of 20 patients, 3 (15%) showed low uptake, while none of them showed intermediate or high uptake. Conclusion  Physiological PG uptake is commonly seen on dPET. Neoschoengastia gallinarum is widely distributed in Asia, preferentially parasitising birds, and heavy infestations have clinical impacts on domestic fowl. In common with other trombiculid mites, the genetic diversity and potential variation in host preferences or pathology induced by N. gallinarum are poorly understood. This study aimed to unravel the geographical variation and population structure of N. gallinarum collected from galliform birds in Peninsular Malaysia and Thailand by inference from concatenated mitochondrial-encoded cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI), and nuclear-encoded internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) and 18S ribosomal DNA gene sequences, including a comparison with previously published data from southeastern China. Our multi-locus sequence analysis revealed three monophyletic clades comprising (A) specimens from Peninsular Malaysia, (B) the samples from Thailand together with a minority of Chinese sequences, and (C) the majority of sequences from China. Similarly, most species delimitation approaches divided the specimens into three operational taxonomic units. Analysis of molecular variance revealed 96.41% genetic divergence between Malaysian and Thai populations, further supported by the absence of gene flow (N m = 0.01). In conclusion, despite the two countries sharing a land border, populations of N. gallinarum from Peninsular Malaysia and Thailand appear to be genetically segregated and may represent distinct cryptic species.

Background: Although Zika virus infection is rarely reported now, continuous prevention is needed to achieve sustained eradication. This study aimed to explore the knowledge gaps, risk perception and preventive measures against Zika virus infection (ZIKV) in pregnant women in Malaysia., Methods: We conducted in-depth virtual interviews with pregnant women between February and April 2022. The interviews were recorded and transcribed, and data were analyzed by content analysis., Results: The majority of the participants demonstrated a commendable level of awareness regarding the signs and symptoms associated with ZIKV infection. They also exhibited a clear understanding of preventive measures, particularly emphasizing the importance of avoiding mosquito bites to minimize the risk of ZIKV transmission. However, a noteworthy gap in knowledge surfaced as a subset of participants remained uninformed about the potential for sexual transmission of ZIKV, which could lead to congenital ZIKV in pregnant women. Even among women who were cognizant of ZIKV and its potential negative health outcomes, associated with the infection, many of them did not perceive themselves to be at risk, mainly because ZIKV infection is infrequently discussed or heard of, leading to a sense of infections' rarity. While the adoption of preventive measures such as mosquito bite prevention during pregnancy was a common practice, however, prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including mosquito-borne diseases such as Zika is low. A minority of women express concerns about the sensitivity surrounding discussions and prevention of STIs within the context of marriage. Most of the participants were supportive of the provision of awareness of ZIKV infection in women during pregnancy and the involvement of men, especially in initiatives aimed at preventing transmission through sexual contact., Conclusion: This study uncovered gaps in both knowledge and practices pertaining ZIKV infection among pregnant women in the aftermath of the ZIKV pandemic. Introduction: Malaria is a parasitic disease that is endemic in tropical areas and can be life-threatening. There has been a decrease in the prevalence of malaria in Ghana but the burden of the disease is still high in the country. Many Ghanaians depend on herbal products for malaria treatment. This study aimed to survey and evaluate commercial herbal antimalarials in the Volta Region of Ghana., Methods: A survey of finished herbal antimalarials was done at herbal shops, pharmacies, and over-the-counter medicine seller shops. Products available on shelves were purchased and their details were recorded, after which they were examined using a visual inspection tool. The density, pH, and extract weight per dose of each sample were also determined., Results: Thirty-four liquid formulations (A-1-34) containing 1-9 different herbs were found. The majority of the product labels had errors in consumer age classifications. Unconventional ways of stating doses were found on two products (A-13, "tot"; A-19, cupful). Six products did not have dosing devices. No duration of treatment was indicated on 24 products. Dose errors were found on A-14 and A-22. Samples A-17 and A-28 did not have registration or batch numbers. Product A-28 did not have its herbs listed on it and was indicated for persons aged 3-8 years at a dose of 45 mL. The relative density range for the products was 0.997-1.015. From the pH investigation, no product was extremely erosive; however, 10 samples were deemed erosive (pH, 3.0-3.99), whereas 24 were minimally erosive (pH, ≥4.0). The extract weight per dose volume (20-90 mL) was 0.048-1.766 g, indicating that unit dose capsules or tablets could be formulated from the products., Conclusion: The findings clearly show that Ghanaian authorities responsible for regulating herbal products must enforce guidelines for the formulation, label details, and sale of antimalarial products. Background: The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic occurred due to the dispersion of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Severe symptoms can be observed in COVID-19 patients with lipid-related comorbidities such as obesity and diabetes. Yet, the extensive molecular mechanisms of how SARS-CoV-2 causes dysregulation of lipid metabolism remain unknown., Methods: Here, an advanced search of articles was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, EBSCOhost, and Web of Science databases using terms from Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) like SARS-CoV-2, lipid metabolism and transcriptomic as the keywords. From 428 retrieved studies, only clinical studies using next-generation sequencing as a gene expression method in COVID-19 patients were accepted. Study design, study population, sample type, the method for gene expression and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were extracted from the five included studies. The DEGs obtained from the studies were pooled and analyzed using the bioinformatics software package, DAVID, to determine the enriched pathways. The DEGs involved in lipid metabolic pathways were selected and further analyzed using STRING and Cytoscape through visualization by protein-protein interaction (PPI) network complex., Results: The analysis identified nine remarkable clusters from the PPI complex, where cluster 1 showed the highest molecular interaction score. Three potential candidate genes (PPARG, IFITM3 and APOBEC3G) were pointed out from the integrated bioinformatics analysis in this systematic review and were chosen due to their significant role in regulating lipid metabolism. These candidate genes were significantly involved in enriched lipid metabolic pathways, mainly in regulating lipid homeostasis affecting the pathogenicity of SARS-CoV-2, specifically in mechanisms of viral entry and viral replication in COVID-19 patients., Conclusions: Taken together, our findings in this systematic review highlight the affected lipid-metabolic pathways along with the affected genes upon SARS-CoV-2 invasion, which could be a potential target for new therapeutic strategies study in the future., (© 2024. An increasing number of reports have described the pathogenic nature of several non-classical Bordetella spp. Among them, Bordetella hinzii and Bordetella pseudohinzii have been implicated in a myriad of respiratory-associated infections in humans and animals. We report the isolation of a genetically close relative of B. hinzii and B. pseudohinzii from the sputum of a woman in her early 60s with extensive bronchiectasis who presented with fever and brown colored sputum. The isolate had initially been identified as Bordetella avium by API 20NE, the identification system for non-enteric Gram-negative rod bacteria. Sequencing of the 16S rDNA, ompA , nrdA , and genes used in the Bordetella multilocus sequence typing scheme could not resolve the identity of this Bordetella isolate. Whole-genome single nucleotide polymorphism analysis positioned the isolate between B. hinzii and B. pseudohinzii in the phylogenetic tree, forming a distinct cluster. Whole-genome sequencing enabled the further identification of this rare organism, and should be considered for wider applications, especially the confirmation of organism identity in the clinical diagnostic microbiology laboratory., Competing Interests: Declaration of conflicting interestThe authors declare that there is no conflict of interest.
