Abstract: Results are presented for the measurement of large-scale anisotropies in the arrival directions of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays detected at the Pierre Auger Observatory during 19 years of operation, prior to AugerPrime, the upgrade of the Observatory. The 3D dipole amplitude and direction are reconstructed above $4\,$EeV in four energy bins. Besides the established dipolar anisotropy in right ascension above $8\,$EeV, the Fourier amplitude of the $8$ to $16\,$EeV energy bin is now also above the $5\sigma$ discovery level. No time variation of the dipole moment above $8\,$EeV is found, setting an upper limit to the rate of change of such variations of $0.3\%$ per year at the $95\%$ confidence level. Additionally, the results for the angular power spectrum are shown, demonstrating no other statistically significant multipoles. The results for the equatorial dipole component down to $0.03\,$EeV are presented, using for the first time a data set obtained with a trigger that has been optimized for lower energies. Finally, model predictions are discussed and compared with observations, based on two source emission scenarios obtained in the combined fit of spectrum and composition above $0.6\,$EeV.

Abstract: Ultra-high-energy cosmic rays are known to be mainly of extragalactic origin, and their propagation is limited by energy losses, so their arrival directions are expected to correlate with the large-scale structure of the local Universe. In this work, we investigate the possible presence of intermediate-scale excesses in the flux of the most energetic cosmic rays from the direction of the supergalactic plane region using events with energies above 20 EeV recorded with the surface detector array of the Pierre Auger Observatory up to 31 December 2022, with a total exposure of 135,000 km^2 sr yr. The strongest indication for an excess that we find, with a post-trial significance of 3.1{\sigma}, is in the Centaurus region, as in our previous reports, and it extends down to lower energies than previously studied. We do not find any strong hints of excesses from any other region of the supergalactic plane at the same angular scale. In particular, our results do not confirm the reports by the Telescope Array collaboration of excesses from two regions in the Northern Hemisphere at the edge of the field of view of the Pierre Auger Observatory. Abstract: The Pierre Auger Observatory is the most sensitive instrument to detect photons with energies above $10^{17}$ eV. It measures extensive air showers generated by ultra high energy cosmic rays using a hybrid technique that exploits the combination of a fluorescence detector with a ground array of particle detectors. The signatures of a photon-induced air shower are a larger atmospheric depth of the shower maximum ($X_{max}$) and a steeper lateral distribution function, along with a lower number of muons with respect to the bulk of hadron-induced cascades. In this work, a new analysis technique in the energy interval between 1 and 30 EeV (1 EeV = $10^{18}$ eV) has been developed by combining the fluorescence detector-based measurement of $X_{max}$ with the specific features of the surface detector signal through a parameter related to the air shower muon content, derived from the universality of the air shower development. No evidence of a statistically significant signal due to photon primaries was found using data collected in about 12 years of operation. Thus, upper bounds to the integral photon flux have been set using a detailed calculation of the detector exposure, in combination with a data-driven background estimation. The derived 95% confidence level upper limits are 0.0403, 0.01113, 0.0035, 0.0023, and 0.0021 km$^{-2}$ sr$^{-1}$ yr$^{-1}$ above 1, 2, 3, 5, and 10 EeV, respectively, leading to the most stringent upper limits on the photon flux in the EeV range. Compared with past results, the upper limits were improved by about 40% for the lowest energy threshold and by a factor 3 above 3 EeV, where no candidates were found and the expected background is negligible. The presented limits can be used to probe the assumptions on chemical composition of ultra-high energy cosmic rays and allow for the constraint of the mass and lifetime phase space of super-heavy dark matter particles., Comment: 19 pages, 22 figures

Abstract: We report an investigation of the mass composition of cosmic rays with energies from 3 to 100 EeV (1 EeV=$10^{18}$ eV) using the distributions of the depth of shower maximum $X_\mathrm{max}$. The analysis relies on ${\sim}50,000$ events recorded by the Surface Detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory and a deep-learning-based reconstruction algorithm. Above energies of 5 EeV, the data set offers a 10-fold increase in statistics with respect to fluorescence measurements at the Observatory. After cross-calibration using the Fluorescence Detector, this enables the first measurement of the evolution of the mean and the standard deviation of the $X_\mathrm{max}$ distributions up to 100 EeV. Our findings are threefold: (1.) The evolution of the mean logarithmic mass towards a heavier composition with increasing energy can be confirmed and is extended to 100 EeV. (2.) The evolution of the fluctuations of $X_\mathrm{max}$ towards a heavier and purer composition with increasing energy can be confirmed with high statistics. We report a rather heavy composition and small fluctuations in $X_\mathrm{max}$ at the highest energies. (3.) We find indications for a characteristic structure beyond a constant change in the mean logarithmic mass, featuring three breaks that are observed in proximity to the ankle, instep, and suppression features in the energy spectrum., Comment: submitted to Phys. Abstract: We present measurements of the atmospheric depth of the shower maximum $X_\mathrm{max}$, inferred for the first time on an event-by-event level using the Surface Detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory. Using deep learning, we were able to extend measurements of the $X_\mathrm{max}$ distributions up to energies of 100 EeV ($10^{20}$ eV), not yet revealed by current measurements, providing new insights into the mass composition of cosmic rays at extreme energies. Gaining a 10-fold increase in statistics compared to the Fluorescence Detector data, we find evidence that the rate of change of the average $X_\mathrm{max}$ with the logarithm of energy features three breaks at $6.5\pm0.6~(\mathrm{stat})\pm1~(\mathrm{sys})$ EeV, $11\pm 2~(\mathrm{stat})\pm1~(\mathrm{sys})$ EeV, and $31\pm5~(\mathrm{stat})\pm3~(\mathrm{sys})$ EeV, in the vicinity to the three prominent features (ankle, instep, suppression) of the cosmic-ray flux. The energy evolution of the mean and standard deviation of the measured $X_\mathrm{max}$ distributions indicates that the mass composition becomes increasingly heavier and purer, thus being incompatible with a large fraction of light nuclei between 50 EeV and 100 EeV., Comment: submitted to Phys. Abstract: The flux of ultra-high energy cosmic rays reaching Earth above the ankle energy (5 EeV) can be described as a mixture of nuclei injected by extragalactic sources with very hard spectra and a low rigidity cutoff. Extragalactic magnetic fields existing between the Earth and the closest sources can affect the observed CR spectrum by reducing the flux of low-rigidity particles reaching Earth. We perform a combined fit of the spectrum and distributions of depth of shower maximum measured with the Pierre Auger Observatory including the effect of this magnetic horizon in the propagation of UHECRs in the intergalactic space. We find that, within a specific range of the various experimental and phenomenological systematics, the magnetic horizon effect can be relevant for turbulent magnetic field strengths in the local neighbourhood of order $B_{\rm rms}\simeq (50-100)\,{\rm nG}\,(20\rm{Mpc}/{d_{\rm s})( 100\,\rm{kpc}/L_{\rm coh}})^{1/2}$, with $d_{\rm s}$ the typical intersource separation and $L_{\rm coh}$ the magnetic field coherence length. When this is the case, the inferred slope of the source spectrum becomes softer and can be closer to the expectations of diffusive shock acceleration, i.e., $\propto E^{-2}$. Abstract: We test the predictions of hadronic interaction models regarding the depth of maximum of air-shower profiles, $X_{max}$, and ground-particle signals in water-Cherenkov detectors at 1000 m from the shower core, $S(1000)$, using the data from the fluorescence and surface detectors of the Pierre Auger Observatory. The test consists in fitting the measured two-dimensional ($S(1000)$, $X_{max}$) distributions using templates for simulated air showers produced with hadronic interaction models EPOS-LHC, QGSJet II-04, Sibyll 2.3d and leaving the scales of predicted $X_{max}$ and the signals from hadronic component at ground as free fit parameters. The method relies on the assumption that the mass composition remains the same at all zenith angles, while the longitudinal shower development and attenuation of ground signal depend on the mass composition in a correlated way. The analysis was applied to 2239 events detected by both the fluorescence and surface detectors of the Pierre Auger Observatory with energies between $10^{18.5}$ to $10^{19.0}$ eV and zenith angles below $60^\circ$. We found, that within the assumptions of the method, the best description of the data is achieved if the predictions of the hadronic interaction models are shifted to deeper $X_{max}$ values and larger hadronic signals at all zenith angles. Abstract: Score-driven models have recently been introduced as a general framework to specify time-varying parameters of conditional densities. The score enjoys stochastic properties that make these models easy to implement and convenient to apply in several contexts, ranging from biostatistics to finance. Score-driven parameter updates have been shown to be optimal in terms of locally reducing a local version of the Kullback–Leibler divergence between the true conditional density and the postulated density of the model. A key limitation of such an optimality property is that it holds only locally both in the parameter space and sample space, yielding to a definition of local Kullback–Leibler divergence that is in fact not a divergence measure. The current paper shows that score-driven updates satisfy stronger optimality properties that are based on a global definition of Kullback–Leibler divergence. In particular, it is shown that score-driven updates reduce the distance between the expected updated parameter and the pseudo-true parameter. Furthermore, depending on the conditional density and the scaling of the score, the optimality result can hold globally over the parameter space, which can be viewed as a generalization of the monotonicity property of the stochastic gradient descent scheme. Several examples illustrate how the results derived in the paper apply to specific models under different easy-to-check assumptions, and provide a formal method to select the link function and the scaling of the score. Abstract: Emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) from municipal solid waste (MSW) in North Macedonia are a serious issue for the environment and major efforts are needed to mitigate climate change. In order to determine the current situation with the GHG emissions in North Macedonia, several calculations were made and results and proposals for reduction of GHG emissions, related with waste, are presented in this paper. Municipal solid waste (MSW) management, primarily through landfilling, is a major contributor to GHG emissions in North Macedonia. The anaerobic decomposition of organic waste in landfills generates methane (CH4), a strong greenhouse gas with a high global warming potential, even 25 times more than carbon dioxide (CO2). Furthermore, open waste burning and inadequate waste management techniques lead to the release of CO2, nitrous oxide (N2O), and other pollutants. Despite efforts to mitigate GHG emissions from waste, challenges persist due to inadequate waste management infrastructure, limited waste reduction and recycling initiatives, and failure to implement regulatory frameworks. These challenges exacerbate the environmental impacts of waste management and hinder progress towards sustainable development goals. To tackle GHG emissions from waste in North Macedonia, a comprehensive approach is required that includes legislative interventions, technological advances, and public engagement techniques. Improving waste management infrastructure, promoting waste reduction and recycling, investing in waste-derived renewable energy, and enhancing regulatory enforcement are among the key recommendations. Abstract: Phytoremediation is one of the most suitable techniques for the remediation of heavy metals from polluted soils. The purpose of this paper is to determine the efficiency of several plants varieties for phytoremediation of soils contaminated with lead, iron and arsenic in the vicinity of the municipality of Probishtip. The research was done in the period from May to September 2023. During this period, representative soil samples were taken from several locations in the vicinity of Probishtip. These samples were subjected to laboratory testing to determine the concentration of the elements that compose it. After receiving the results, certain types of plants are planted in the soil samples. Тhe same soil samples are subjected to laboratory testing again after a certain period of time, sufficient for the plants to have an impact on the soil. The results of the soil analysis and risk assessment indicate the presence of heavy metal contamination in the soils surrounding Probishtip, especially in samples near Cranfield and the old tailings dump. The most frequently found metals include iron, lead, zinc, arsenic, copper, and chromium, all of which are the focus of our research. 25. Left ventricular function assessment in Kawasaki disease by two-dimensional global longitudinal systolic strain with automated function imaging.

Abstract: Background: Kawasaki disease is an acute febrile vasculitis of childhood mainly affecting children under 4 years of age. In the acute stage of the disease, heart function decreases and gradually returns to normal after treatment. However, subendocardial involvement may persist, which cannot be assessed by M-mode echocardiography. Strain echocardiography is a recently developed technique to assess subendocardial involvement of myocardial deformation. We aimed to study the stratified strain of left ventricular function in a Kawasaki patient at least 6 months after the acute stage of the disease with special conditions for entering the study using two-dimensional speckle-tracking imaging. Between September 2020 and October 2022, 27 healthy children and 27 children with a history of Kawasaki disease more than 6 months ago were evaluated using two-dimensional global longitudinal peak systolic strain with automated function imaging technology. Results: The mean age of patients was 5.6 years. With M-mode echocardiography, ejection fraction of each group was in the normal range. Mean (± standard deviation) global longitudinal peak strain in four-chamber view of girls with Kawasaki disease was − 23.74 ± 2.77, and that in boys with Kawasaki disease was − 20.93 ± 2.06 (P value = 0.008). GLPS (global longitudinal peak strain) was compared as an overall average and as in a separate segment, which showed significant difference in two comparisons. In our study, a decrease in the function of some cardiac segments is reported. Global longitudinal peak strain in four-chamber view was significantly lower in boys. Comparing different segments, a difference in global left ventricular long-axis strain was found between the two groups. On the other hand, there was a major difference between the two groups in the basal inferolateral, basal anterolateral, and mid-inferolateral, which receives blood from Left Circumflex artery. Conclusion: Using stain echocardiography to detect continued subendocardial involvement in asymptomatic children with a history of Kawasaki disease for a better understanding of the condition, effective management and follow-up is recommended. Abstract: Objectives: To realize or perform comparative analysis of the therapeutic effect of chlorhexidine - gel on the periodontal pocket with conventional treatment and standard treatment assisted with Chlorhexidine Gluconate Gel. Materials and Methods: For realization of this object of study, 30 patients from both sexes from 20 to 50 years, were diagnosed with parodontopathy of the second clinical stadium by diagnostic radiology and clinical diagnosis. The patients are divided into two groups where one group is treated with the standard method and the other group by the combined method (conventional) with antiseptic gel. In all patients there were realized clinical examination and determination of dental attachment loss ( degree of migration of the junctional epithelium) using the classification proposed by American Academy of Periodontology 1999, according to which, the clinical stadium was determined using the periodontal probe before and after treatment with both combined treatment methods and conventional. Results: The results shows after application of standard method using Chlorhexidine gluconate gel in contrast of the groups treated only with standard method where p <0.001 (p = 0.000) indicated the smallest significant average to periodontal pocket depth after 180 days compared to the first examination. Tabular results shows the pre and post-treatment data (information) with the standard method, where there are not much differences in percent in contrast of combined method where the parameters over depth of periodontal pocket shows large changes in percent before and after treatment. Conclusion: The application of the combined standard / chlorhexidine gluconate method has a significant efficacy on reducing the periodontal pocket depth in patients with chronic periodontal disease. Abstract: Objective: The purpose of this investigation was to design a body appreciation training program (focusing on positive body image) and assess its impact on body image concerns and overweight among overweight adolescent girls in Isfahan. Methods: The study utilized a quasi-experimental approach with pre-test and post-test measurements along with a control group. The target population consisted of overweight high school girls in Isfahan during the year 2021, chosen through cluster sampling from the city's six educational districts. A sample of 40 overweight students was purposefully selected and divided into a control group (20 individuals) and an experimental group (20 individuals). Evaluation tools comprised instruments by Littleton et al. (2005) Body Image Concern Inventory and BMI. A researcher-developed body appreciation package was delivered to the experimental group over 8 sessions lasting 90 minutes each; conversely, the control group did not undergo any interventions. Data analysis was carried out using SPSS-22 software, employing descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (univariate analysis of covariance). Results: The outcomes demonstrated a notable statistical difference (P <0.001) in body image concerns between the experimental and control groups. Essentially, the Body Appreciation Training contributed to a decrease in body image concerns among overweight high school girls while it did not have a significant effect on the weight loss of overweight female students. Conclusions: The discoveries of this research have the potential to inform the development of interventions aimed at mitigating the adverse consequences of obesity and body dissatisfaction among adolescents. Abstract: Introduction: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication after cardiac surgery, and its occurrence is associated with a worse prognosis and increased mortality. The term cardiac surgery associated AKI (CSA AKI) is used to describe the entity. CSA AKI is independently associated with an increase in short term morbidity, costs of treatment, and long term mortality. In this study, we evaluated the frequency of CSA AKI in an intensive care unit for children undergoing cardiac surgery to examine the prevalence of CSA AKI and the risk factors contributing to it. Methods: This retrospective descriptive cross sectional study evaluated 73 patients admitted to a single center for cardiac surgery in 2022. Inpatient files were reviewed for patients who underwent surgical procedures for congenital heart disease (CHD) during 2022. Results: AKI occurred in 35.6% of children undergoing cardiac surgery. The majority of cases were infants or had cyanotic heart disease (42.5% and 25.8%, respectively). Conclusions: Almost one third of postcardiac surgery patients develop AKI. 32. Theorizing Hybrid Organizing for Grand Challenges.

Abstract: Grand challenges are evaluative, uncertain, and volatile. Robust action strategies of multivocality, participation, and experimentation have been promoted as effective conceptual and practical responses to address these features. However, robust actions suffer from limitations, for example: when many actors have their say, but some actors assume sovereignty of interpretation and shape goals according to their own needs; when stakeholders participate, but fail to mobilize action; or when, despite distributed experimentation, involved actors deviate from joint progress when they face adversity. We propose theory on hybrid organizing, typically situated in reference to small-scale organizations such as social enterprises, has much to offer to meet these limitations in addressing grand challenges. We first conceptualize a grand challenges grid that helps explain the complexity of grand challenges better. We then develop a theoretical model of hybrid organizing for grand challenges, which proposes six ways in which hybrid organizing can amplify robust actions and thereby meet the complexity of grand challenges more effectively. 33. All Sustainable? How Businesses can Manage Transitions to Sustainability.

Abstract: Growing demands from policy and the public urge firms to become more sustainable. Many businesses are reshaping their internal sustainability practices and are changing how they communicate their position on sustainability to external stakeholders. However, there are different combinations between the internal practices and the external communication of sustainability. We conduct qualitative, exploratory research, which combines a large scoping of cases with in-depth analysis to inform our conceptualization of an empirically grounded framework. We contribute to understanding the combinations of internal practices and external communication better and develop four different types of business sustainability: pretending, aspiring, signaling, and fully-fledged. Building on existing literature, we do not present these as better or worse states of sustainability but probe the ethical or pragmatic motives that lead businesses to assume their position. Thereby we uncover that there are justified and ethically questionable reasons for businesses to assume a certain type of sustainability. In contrast to existing literature, which has often assumed a static position, we also scrutinize the transition pathways businesses can take by moving from one type to another. Abstract: Abstract Background Kawasaki disease is an acute febrile vasculitis of childhood mainly affecting children under 4 years of age. In the acute stage of the disease, heart function decreases and gradually returns to normal after treatment. However, subendocardial involvement may persist, which cannot be assessed by M-mode echocardiography. Strain echocardiography is a recently developed technique to assess subendocardial involvement of myocardial deformation. We aimed to study the stratified strain of left ventricular function in a Kawasaki patient at least 6 months after the acute stage of the disease with special conditions for entering the study using two-dimensional speckle-tracking imaging. Between September 2020 and October 2022, 27 healthy children and 27 children with a history of Kawasaki disease more than 6 months ago were evaluated using two-dimensional global longitudinal peak systolic strain with automated function imaging technology. Results The mean age of patients was 5.6 years. With M-mode echocardiography, ejection fraction of each group was in the normal range. Mean (± standard deviation) global longitudinal peak strain in four-chamber view of girls with Kawasaki disease was − 23.74 ± 2.77, and that in boys with Kawasaki disease was − 20.93 ± 2.06 (P value = 0.008). GLPS (global longitudinal peak strain) was compared as an overall average and as in a separate segment, which showed significant difference in two comparisons. In our study, a decrease in the function of some cardiac segments is reported. Global longitudinal peak strain in four-chamber view was significantly lower in boys. Abstract: The purpose of this research was to investigate the impact of quality of life therapy on the quality of parent-adolescent interaction and adolescent adjustment. A quasi-experimental design comprising a pretest, posttest, control group, and a two-month follow-up period was utilized for the study. The statistical population of the survey comprised second-year high school female adolescents residing in Isfahan during the 2020-2021 academic year. By means of purposive sampling, 35 adolescents were chosen at random and divided into experimental and control groups,with 18 adolescents assigned to the experimental group and 17 to the control group. Over the course of two months, mothers of adolescents in the experimental group participated in eighty-five-minute quality of life therapy sessions. A pre-test was administered prior to the intervention, and a post-test was conducted subsequent to the intervention. Following a gap of two months, the follow-up phase was conducted. Parent-Child Relationship Questionnaire (PCRQ) and California Individual-Social Adjustment Questionnaire (CISAQ) were utilized in this research. Abstract: Background: Screening for latent tuberculosis infection using Interferon-Gamma Release Assays is a routine procedure prior to the initiation of anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) biotherapy or immunosuppressive therapy. However, indeterminate results are relatively frequent and are an obstacle to treatment initiation. Aim: The aim of this cross-sectional study was to estimate the frequency of indeterminate QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus ® test results in Tunisian patients, and to analyze the potential clinico-biological risk factors associated with these indeterminate results. Methods: Whole blood samples from 712 patients being monitored for autoimmune diseases and candidates for anti-TNF biotherapy or switch of immunosuppressive therapy were used to screen for latent tuberculosis infection using the QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus ® test. Based on literature background, the following variables were tested for the association with indeterminate results: gender, age, diabetes, immunosuppressive drugs, lymphocyte count, Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, serum albumin, and estimated glomerular filtration rate. Results: The QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus ® test was negative in 572 (80.3%) patients, positive in 106 (14.9%), and indeterminate in 34 (4.8%) cases. Positive results were significantly associated with a family history of confirmed and treated tuberculosis, OR (95% CI) = 52 (20.2–134.3). The use of immunosuppressive drugs and duration of treatment were significantly associated with the occurrence of indeterminate results: OR (95% CI) = 24.5 (5.8–103) and OR (95% CI) = 1.004 (1.002–1.007), respectively. Biologically, lymphopenia, hypoalbuminemia, and decreased estimated glomerular filtration rate were significant risk factors for indeterminate results: p = 5 E-6, p = 4.3 E-4, and p = 0.002, respectively. Thus, a multiple logistic regression model based on these three biological parameters enabled us to develop a predictive score for indeterminate results with a sensitivity of 91.2% and a specificity of 99.9%, AUC = 0.9964 (0.9917–1), p = 2.8 E-52. Conclusion: Immunosuppressive therapy, lymphopenia, hypoalbuminemia, and kidney failure appeared to be risk factors for indeterminate QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus ® results.

Abstract: We show, for the first time, radio measurements of the depth of shower maximum (X_{max}) of air showers induced by cosmic rays that are compared to measurements of the established fluorescence method at the same location. Using measurements at the Pierre Auger Observatory we show full compatibility between our radio and the previously published fluorescence dataset, and between a subset of air showers observed simultaneously with both radio and fluorescence techniques, a measurement setup unique to the Pierre Auger Observatory. Furthermore, we show radio X_{max} resolution as a function of energy and demonstrate the ability to make competitive high-resolution X_{max} measurements with even a sparse radio array. With this, we show that the radio technique is capable of cosmic-ray mass composition studies, both at Auger and at other experiments.
