ABSTRACT The western Black Sea region is a key area for the study of the Neo‐Tethys orogenic belt, as it contains records of the evolutionary history of the entire Alpine orogeny from subduction to oceanic closure and collision. The Izmir‐Ankara and the Intra‐Pontide suture zones represent the final closure of the Neo‐Tethys oceans. However, when the final closure took place is still disputed. In this study, we investigate syn‐collisional faulting events in the western Black Sea region near Istanbul. We performed kinematic analyses of faulting and U–Pb dating of syntectonic calcite precipitates on the fault planes to constrain the timing of Neo‐Tethys Ocean closure and post‐collisional contractional tectonics. Syntectonic calcite precipitates associated with regional N‐S compressional tectonics provide precise U–Pb ages between 48 and 57 Ma, constraining the early Eocene age of reverse faulting and associated closure of the Intra‐Pontide Ocean. The Qilian orogenic belt (QOB) located in the northeast margin of the Tibetan Plateau is featured by remarkable crustal thrusting and shortening, providing a key natural example to understand the lithospheric deformation of the Tibetan Plateau. Two types of continental collision are observed in the QOB: lithosphere subduction beneath Southern Qilian and crust underthrusting of Alxa terrain along the North Border Thrust (NBT). Deep seismic reflection profiles reveal complex stress field evolution, including compressional deformation in the lower crust, extensional deformation in the upper crust, and detachment deformation in the middle crust. In this study, we use 2D numerical modeling to investigate the dynamics of these two different collision types and the evolution of Qilian uplift. Model results suggest three patterns of continental collision, i.e., crust underthrusting follows lithosphere subduction, lithosphere subduction and the failed underthrusting/subduction. The key factors that may influence model evolution, including crustal rheology, convergence direction and rate, are systematically investigated. Our model results are further compared to observations, suggesting that lower convergence rate and crust underthrusting along NBT likely control the uplift and crust stress stratification of the QOB. West Tasmania has a complex geological history, including a Cambrian tectonic collision and related orogenesis, which formed ore deposits in a volcanic hosted massive sulfide (VHMS) setting. While the topography and dense vegetation covering the area presents challenges for on-ground investigations, the area is relatively well-studied such that 3D geological models are available. This contribution presents results of a broadband magnetotelluric (MT) 2D transect across the area (∼30 stations over a $ \sim 80\,{\rm km} $ ∼ 80 km line, deployed in early 2016) that enables a combined interpretation of regional-scale geoelectric and geological structures. After accounting for noise, distortion and geoelectric strike; we produce 2D resistivity models using OCCAM2D inversion. We infer low resistivity anomalies in the shallow ( $ \lt 3\,{\rm km} $ < 3 km ), mid (3–8 km) and deeper crust. Along this MT transect the shallow and mid crust low resistivity zones correspond to major crustal faults. Deep low resistivity features in the east of the transect suggest fluid pathways associated with metamorphism along the western boundary of the Tyennan block during the Cambrian Tyennan Orogeny, while others potentially represent the metasomatism of lower crustal rocks and fluid pathways converging into the mid crust. The eastern Iranian range, known as the Sistan suture zone in the past, has recently been identified as the Sistan orogen. This Paleogene orogeny is located between the Lut and Afghan microcontinents. The structural analysis shows that most of the thrusts dip towards the NW so that the Permo-Triassic sediments and Jurassic micro-diorites of the Lut Block overthrusted over the younger rocks. Structural studies show that the tectonic vergence was from the NW to the SE of the Sechengi area in the NW part of Sistan orogen. We recognized three deformation phases in eastern Iran. The first N-S deformation event (D1) resulted in the formation of tight E-W folds (F1) and associated cleavages (S1). The second E-W deformation event (D2), which occurred in the late Paleogene led to the bending of older structures, including the axial plane of the first-generation folds giving them a new northwest direction (F2). Additionally, the ramp of the first-phase thrusts (striking E-W) was reactivated, acquiring a new NNW orientation and exhibiting SSE tectonic vergence. The third deformation event (D3) resulted in the formation of NNE and WNW conjugate faults in eastern Iran. Such consecutive deformation events perpendicular to each other are inconsistent with the models of simple linear orogen presented for eastern Iran (i.e. rifting of eastern Iran continental crust and subsequence linear collision) and seem more consistent with the buckling orogeny (Orocline). The Taiwan orogeny, an example of arc-continental collision, exhibits complex geological structures and rapid exhumation. Many models have tried and failed to fully capture the dynamics of these processes. We developed a comprehensive thermomechanical model that considers the transition from brittle to ductile behavior with depth, lithology-dependent erosion and observed decollement and backstop geometries. This model successfully reproduces the intricate structures observed within the Taiwan orogeny, aligns with structural complexities, metamorphic temperature profiles, thermochronological records, strain distributions, and the rates of exhumation and cooling and elucidates the roles of ductile deformation and ramp structures in forming the Hsuehshan Range and the Western fold and thrust belt. Structural, metamorphic, and geochronological study of the Delhi Supergroup rocks near the western margin of the Aravalli-Delhi Mobile Belt (ADMB) elucidate the Neoproterozoic tectonics of the South Delhi Fold Belt (SDFB) and its implication for the evolution of the Greater Indian Landmass (GIL). In this study, we establish three deformational events in the SDFB. While the D1 event produced isoclinal, reclined F1 folds synchronous with prograde amphibolite facies metamorphism (~5 kbar, 650°C), D2 formed outcrop to map-scale upright F2 folds. D3 comprised ‘partitioned transpression’ along two subvertical shear zones. Oblique dextral-reverse movement (D3a) along one shear zone formed an outcrop-scale positive flower structure, while sinistral-reverse movement along the other rotated and steepened the hinges of the F2 folds (D3b). U-Pb zircon dating of post-tectonic (post-D2, but pre-D3) and syntectonic (syn-D3) granite intrusives suggests >844 Ma age for D2 and ca. 820 Ma for D3. An older magmatic event (ca. 990 Ma) is recorded from sheared pink granites (pre- to syn-D1 intrusion). We suggest that the amalgamation of the ADMB and the Marwar Craton was initiated by the Grenville-age (ca. 1000 Ma) subduction-collision, while the younger events (ca. 844 Ma and 820 Ma) mark the final stitching of the ADMB – Marwar Craton along the Phulad-Ranakpur palaeo-suture zone to form the GIL. The distribution of early (ca. 1000–900 Ma) and late (ca. 800–700 Ma) Tonian magmatic and metamorphic ages in the SDFB suggest that the final growth of the GIL took place through multiple stages of oblique collision in a pulsating orogenesis through the Early Neoproterozoic. The Cadomian basement of SW Iberian Massif appears in the so-called Ossa-Morena Complex, which contains several allochthonous terranes that are key for deciphering the evolution of the Gondwana margin during the Neoproterozoic. In this context, the Calzadilla Ophiolite represents the remnants of an oceanic Ediacaran lithosphere formed by a boninitic mafic crust that overlies a serpentinized ultramafic section, the latter being the biggest outcrop of Cadomian serpentinites in Europe. In this work, the petrological and geochemical nature of the mantle section is analysed, as well as the tectonothermal evolution of both, the mafic crust and the ultramafic section. The algebraic analysis of whole rock geochemistry of the serpentinites indicates that the protolith corresponds to harzburgite. The geochemical fingerprint of the serpentinites, as well as the primary spinel crystals composition, shows that peridotites underwent high degrees of partial melting (up to 16%) in a forearc setting. Thermodynamic modelling and average PT methods were applied to serpentinites and mafic dykes from the ultramafic section as well as to amphibolites from the mafic section, both of which experienced progradation up to 4–5 kbar and 525–575°C. According to the data, the protoliths of the Calzadilla Ophiolite were formed in a peri-Gondwanan arc system developed during the subduction of oceanic crust below Gondwana. The roll-back of the subducting slab would induce the opening of the forearc basin at c. 602 Ma, protolith age of amphibolites from crustal section, with an extensive partial melting of the mantle wedge and the formation of boninitic-affinity magmas that constitute the mafic section of the Calzadilla Ophiolite. Metasomatism and serpentinization of the mantle wedge would occur via melt- and fluid–rock interactions. A compression-dominated stage at c. 540 led to the emplacement of the Calzadilla Ophiolite onto the Cadomian magmatic arc, with the development of the amphibolite-facies metamorphic imprint. Accurately imaging seismogenic structures is crucial for seismic hazard assessment. This is especially important around the deformation front (DF) region off SW Taiwan, where seismic potential is high but the fault structure and seismic activity are still poorly understood. Here, we present a comprehensive delineation of seismogenic structures along the onshore and offshore DF of SW Taiwan, utilizing hypocenter relocations and first-motion focal mechanism solutions from January 1991 to March 2019. Five distinctive seismogenic structures are delineated. Particularly, the energetic seismic activity initialled after the 2017 Mw5.3 Tainan earthquake and migrated northeastward along the western side of the DF. The offshore trace of the DF could serve as a boundary delimiting the seismic activity driven by the flexural stress of the subducted Eurasia Plate to the west of the DF. This observation could constrain the magnitude estimation of future earthquakes offshore SW Taiwan. Meanwhile, the areas with higher seismic moment release are located near the DF rather than known faults, indicating that the DF may dominate the seismic moment release. However, further study is warranted into the intricate relationship among seismic strain variation, the structure of DF, and seismic activity to further understand the seismic potential. Our first-motion focal mechanism solutions show that several earthquakes in SW Taiwan were characterized by P-axis orientations parallel to the strike of the Taiwan orogeny. Those events are preferably explained by the lateral compression induced by the ongoing collision between the Eurasia and Philippine Sea plates. The ductile shear deformation of Precambrian basement rocks in Wuyishan provides a crucial perspective on intraplate orogeny in the South China Block (SCB). This study focuses on the Longquan‐Badu ductile shear zone in southeastern Zhejiang, employing field observations, thin section analysis, quartz electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), zircon U–Pb dating and 40Ar/39Ar geochronology. Two distinct phases of deformation, referred to as D1 and D2, have been identified. D1 is primarily characterized by a WNW–ESE striking foliation within a NE‐plunging lineation, indicating top‐to‐SSW shearing. The paragneiss within the Badu complex that experienced D1 deformation has been dated to 247–239 Ma through zircon U–Pb analysis, corresponding to the prevalent high‐pressure metamorphic age in the region. This correlation suggests that the D1 deformation event coincided with crustal thickening during the Early Triassic. D2 deformation exhibits folds, foliation, S‐C fabrics and mylonitic microstructures and is mainly characterized by striking NNE–SSW with steeply dip, demonstrating a dominant dextral strike–slip component. Quartz c‐axis orientations in mylonitic rocks indicate deformation temperatures between 350°C and 550°C with asymmetric girdle patterns suggesting simultaneous basal and prism slip. The plateau ages of muscovite from mylonitic rocks obtained through 40Ar/39Ar dating are approximately ~228 Ma implying that the D2 deformation occurred under retrograde amphibolite to greenschist facies metamorphic conditions during Middle Triassic. Collectively these data along with regional geological evidence signify two distinct intracontinental orogenic processes occurring in eastern SCB. Considering Early Mesozoic tectonothermal events in Cathaysia Block, it can be inferred that intraplate orogeny in Wuyishan resulted from plate‐margin collisions between SCB and peripheral plates following scissors closure of Palaeo‐Tethys from east to west. The West Qinling Orogen (WQO) is located in the western part of the Qinling Orogen and in the transition zone of Qilian Orogen, Songpan-Garze Orogen and Yangtze Block, and also the key position of Triassic collision orogenic event. The study of the Early Triassic strata in the WQO is contributed to analyze the closure process of the paleo-Tethys. We conducted LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating studies on detrital zircons to determine the provenance, depositional age, and tectonic setting of the Early Triassic Longwuhe Formation in the Lintan area of the WQO. The results show that the majority of the detrital zircons in the Longwuhe Formation are mainly magmatic origin and have characteristic of crust source zircon. The lowest limit of sedimentation of the Longwuhe Formation is constrained to the Early Triassic, with the youngest detrital zircon age of 253 ± 3 Ma. The ages can be divided into five age groups: 3 346–1 636 Ma, with two peak ages of ca. 2 495 and ca. 1 885 Ma; 1 585–1 010 Ma, with a peak age at ca. 1 084 Ma; 992–554 Ma, with a peak age at ca. 939 Ma; 521–421 Ma, with a peak age at ca. 445 Ma; 418–253 Ma, with a peak age at ca. 280 Ma. Apparently, the sources of the Longwuhe Formation include the northern margin of the WQO, the Qilian Orogen (QLO) and the basement of the southern margin of the North China Block (NCB), of which the ancient basement of the southern margin of the NCB is the main source area of the Longwuhe Formation. Combined with previous studies, we propose that the Longwuhe Formation was formed in a fore-arc basin, which is related to the closure of the A'nyemaqen-Mianlüe Ocean from the Early Permian to Early–Middle Triassic due to the northward subduction-collision of the Yangtze Block (YZB). The Mesoproterozoic Belt Basin of the northwestern United States and southwestern Canada contains a 5-20-km-thick metasedimentary succession deposited during an important transition in the Precambrian development of North America. Key unresolved issues for the Belt Basin include the chronology of deposition, sources of siliciclastic sediment, and regional paleogeography during Laurentian orogenesis. To address these topics, we acquired detrital zircon U-Pb geochronologic data for eastern exposures of the Belt-Purcell Supergroup in the Lewis thrust salient along the USA-Canada border. To define an integrated chronostratigraphic and provenance framework for the Belt Basin, we calculated maximum depositional ages and qualitatively and quantitatively compared our geochronologic data set to a compilation of Laurentian igneous and metamorphic zircon U-Pb ages using multidimensional scaling and an inverse Monte Carlo model. The results suggest a stratigraphic age range of ca. 1495-1380 Ma, constituting a depositional duration of ~115 m.y. with an average sediment accumulation rate of ~40 m/m.y. for the studied locality (extrapolated to ~155 m/m.y. for the basin depocenter). Variations in sediment provenance are expressed by three distinct intervals within the Belt-Purcell Supergroup. The lower Belt Supergroup succession (Waterton to lower Helena Formations; ca. 1495-1440 Ma) is dominated by Paleoproterozoic and Archean grains derived from the northeastern Canadian Shield. The middle Belt Supergroup succession (upper Helena to Sheppard Formations; ca. 1440-1420 Ma) displays mixed early Mesoproterozoic, late Paleoproterozoic, and Archean zircon age groups. The upper Belt Supergroup succession (Gateway to Roosville Formations; ca. 1420-1380 Ma) contains almost entirely late Paleoproterozoic zircons sourced from the south (Yavapai-Mazatzal and Mojave crustal provinces). We interpret sediment provenance to reflect a continental-scale, fluvial drainage reorganization during middle Belt Supergroup deposition that can be linked to the recently recognized Picuris orogeny. In the Alpine Corsica (France), the Santa Lucia Nappe represents a peculiar unit preserving the unique relicts of Paleozoic lower to medium continental crust. It consists of composite basement affected by Permian granulite facies metamorphic conditions unconformably covered by a Late Cretaceous clastic sequence (Tomboni Conglomerate and Tralonca Flysch) affected by polyphase deformation and low‐grade‐metamorphism. In this work, we present a new reconstruction of the deformation events registered by the Tralonca Flysch during the Alpine orogeny. The D1 phase was testified by rare isoclinal folds. The D2 phase produced a continuous foliation and a map‐scale sheath‐fold with a top‐to‐W sense of shear. The D3 phase produced E‐verging non‐cylindrical folds and S3 crenulation cleavage that is not associated to metamorphic blastesis. We present the first temperature‐pressure‐deformation (P‐T‐d) path for the Tralonca Flysch, demonstrating that the Santa Lucia Nappe underwent accretion and then first stage exhumation in the Alpine wedge during the D1 phase with pressure and temperature peaks both occurred under blueschist metamorphic conditions. The D2 phase occurred at lower pressure‐temperature conditions during a second stage exhumation. This pressure‐temperature‐deformation path is comparable with those of the Lower Units (i.e., the subducted continental units of Alpine Corsica) suggesting a common geodynamic history. The Pan‐African mobile zone, situated at the margin of the Congo Craton in Cameroon, is characterized by a geological setting with polyphased tectonics, which can be summarised as the alternation of compression and extension events. The present study, conducted in a portion of the aforementioned zone, is aimed at investigating crustal structures using aeromagnetic data. To achieve this, a variety of advanced analysis and interpretation techniques were applied to reduce aeromagnetic data at the equator, including total horizontal derivative (THD), Centre for Exploration Targeting (CET), 3D Euler deconvolution (ED), spectral analysis, and 2D3/4 modeling. The results indicate that the study area can be divided into four magnetic units based on the magnetic properties (magnetic susceptibility, geometry, and depth) of the underlying rocks. The THD method reveals the presence of pseudocircular and linear structures, which are associated with mafic intrusions and faults, respectively. The structural trends of the lineament generated semiautomatically using the CET method suggest that the structures are oriented in order of priority: E‐W, WNW‐ESE, ENE‐WSW, and NE‐SW. These directions are probably related to the Pan‐African orogeny. According to the ED, the depths of these lineaments extend beyond 1250 m. A spectral analysis conducted on a profile intersecting some of the significant anomalies on the reduction to the equator (RTE) map indicates that the average depths of superficial and deep magnetic sources along this profile are approximately 0.5 and 6.5 km, respectively. The geological model obtained along this profile by direct 2D3/4 modeling indicates the presence of an ancient granitic basement, which is overlain by younger formations belonging to the Pan‐African. The Rochechouart impact structure in the northwestern part of the French Massif Central (FMC) has a great diversity of impactites, including monomict impact breccias, suevite, and impact melt rocks (IMRs). The structure is strongly eroded, which allows the study of impactites of the crater fill and the transition into the crater floor. The FMC has had a multistage geological evolution from the late Neoproterozoic to the Ordovician (600–450 Ma) until the later stages of the Variscan orogeny (~300 Ma). Previous geochronological work on Rochechouart has been focused mainly on the impactites and constraining the impact age, and scarce work has been done on the FMC‐related target rocks. Here, U‐Pb isotope analysis by LA‐MC‐ICP‐MS has been conducted on zircon from two IMRs from the Recoudert and Montoume localities, and from a monzodiorite, a paragneiss, and two amphibolite samples of the basement to the impact structure. Zircon from the target rocks yielded mainly Neoproterozoic to Carboniferous ages (~924 to ~301 Ma) that can mostly be correlated to different stages of the geological evolution of the FMC. The monzodiorite also yielded a Permian age of 272 ± 12 Ma. Zircon from the IMRs, and especially from the Montoume sample, gave a comparatively higher diversity of Neoproterozoic to Jurassic ages (~552 to ~195 Ma). Provenance analysis for the zircon age populations of the impactites compared to those of the basement rocks shows overall poor correlation between the two age groups. This suggests that other target lithologies were involved in the formation of these impact melts as well. Post‐Variscan and preimpact ages (281–226 Ma) obtained for both melt rocks probably reflect a previously unconstrained event in the evolution of the regional geological history. Ages similar to the currently most widely accepted impact age of ~204–206 Ma were obtained from both IMR samples. In addition, the Montoume melt rock yielded several post‐204 Ma ages, which might reflect a to date unconstrained, about 194 Ma postimpact thermal/hydrothermal event. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Colatina Fracture Zone (CFZ) defines a distinct NNW–SSE‐oriented linear zone of fractures and brittle faults that represents an inherited weak zone in the current crustal structure of the (Pre)Cambrian Araçuaí Orogen. In the Early Cretaceous, the CFZ was reactivated during rifting of West Gondwana and subsequent opening of the South Atlantic Ocean, as evidenced by the emplacement of dykes along its structural network and the development of major depocentres of the Campos Basin in the offshore segments of the CFZ. Previous thermochronological studies have demonstrated that the CFZ was also rejuvenated during the drift phase of the South Atlantic. However, a number of questions regarding differential surface uplift and basement exhumation between the CFZ and its surrounding areas, such as the Doce River Valley (DRV), are still unresolved. In this study, we aim to investigate the CFZ as a distinctive structure in the tectonic rejuvenation of the passive margin of south‐east Brazil. Samples from the CFZ and the DRV were collected for apatite fission‐track (AFT) analyses. In the DRV, samples yield AFT central ages from 87 to 97 Ma with mean track lengths (MTL) from 12.6 to 13.3 μm. In contrast, in the CFZ, AFT central ages from 70 to 83 Ma with MTL values from 13.2 and 13.4 μm are obtained. The correlation between AFT age and elevation suggests that the tectonic development of these regions was markedly different and uncoupled. The thermal history models from the AFT data further constrain this differential evolution. On the one hand, thermal history modelling for the DRV indicates a slower and protracted cooling since the incipient Atlantic rifting in the Early Cretaceous. On the other hand, the models for CFZ reveal a rapid cooling phase between the Late Cretaceous to the Palaeocene. In the DRV, the observed basement cooling was most probably triggered by erosion of the uplifted rift shoulder generated by Gondwana break‐up. The more recent, Late Cretaceous–Palaeocene rock cooling, localized in the CFZ, was synchronous with a major phase of the Andean orogeny. This suggests that reactivations and erosional exhumation of the CFZ basement could be a consequence of far‐field propagation of intraplate compressional stress. The higher susceptibility of the CFZ to reactivating over its surroundings shows that structural inheritance is a key factor in the differential tectonic evolution of passive margins. Further research on the Late Cretaceous–Palaeocene reactivation in the CFZ's offshore extension may be crucial for the exploitation of hydrocarbons in the Campos and Espírito Santos basins. Fluid inclusions in mineralized fracture infillings (i.e., veins) could preserve information about subsurface fluids like temperature and salinity. The isotopic composition of water in these fluid inclusions could provide direct evidence of the provenance of these mineral‐forming fluids. So far, the isotope compositions of fluid inclusions have been mainly derived from carbonate veins and other precipitates, like speleothems. The aim of this study is to analyse the δ18O and δ2H isotopic compositions of aqueous fluid inclusions of quartz veins using a cavity ring‐down spectroscopy (CRDS) analyser in combination with a moisturized nitrogen background and mechanical crusher. For this study, we analysed δ18O and δ2H values of fluid inclusions in quartz veins from three north‐western European locations formed during the Variscan orogeny. Prior to crushing, the fluid‐rich quartz fraction was separated from the pure quartz fraction, from other mineral phases and host rock by using conventional heavy liquids and magnet separation. Raman spectrometry detected some rare occurrences of hydrocarbon, methane, and nitrogen in the fluid inclusions. The samples were sequentially crushed to elucidate the potential impact of different fluid inclusion assemblages (FIA) on the δ18O and δ2H values. The results from single and sequential mechanical crushing, together with interlaboratory comparisons, exhibit reliable and consistent isotopic patterns across locations with high precision (for δ18O: 1σ SD < 0.8‰; for δ2H: 1σ SD < 1.5‰). The obtained data occur in three different clusters for three study zones, providing evidence for the presence of meteoric‐derived fluids in the fold‐and‐thrust belts of the Variscan orogeny. These findings demonstrate that the CRDS approach can be successfully applied to quartz minerals, investigating fluid pathways within the upper crust and the formation of these secondary minerals. The northwestern margin of the Junggar Basin has a complex tectonic history, which is challenging for hydrocarbon exploration. This study highlights the structural patterns, tectonic evolution, and controlling factors of the Karamay-Baikouquan Fault Zone (KBFZ) in the northwestern margin of the Junggar Basin based on well-log and 3D seismic data. The main findings of this study include the following: spatially, we have divided the structural patterns of KBFZ into three zones on the plane, namely, northern, central, and southern zones; temporarily, the tectonic evolution has been divided into five stages from Late Carboniferous to Cretaceous, namely, Early-Middle Carboniferous, Late Carboniferous-Early Permian, MiddleLate Permian, Triassic-Middle Jurassic, and Late Jurassic-Cretaceous. During the Hercynian and Indochina orogeny, the compressional stress from the movement of the Dalabute strikeslip fault and the Genghis-Junggar strike-slip fault produced various degrees of deformation in different locations in the KBFZ. The general structural style is a mixture of strike-slip and thrustnappe. The main controlling factors include stress period, stress direction, and stratigraphiclithologic associations. Radiogenic isotopes of igneous and detrital minerals from various clastic rocks of mountain belts are used to reveal tectonic and sedimentary processes, which are otherwise difficult to detect. Here, we discuss the results of U–Pb and Lu–Hf zircon systems, and 40Ar/39Ar on detrital white mica in Eastern Alps. Zircon and white mica are chemically and mechanically stable and occur in magmatic, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. During subsequent metamorphism, zircon is resistant against high temperature, >650 °C (U–Pb) and 900 °C (Lu–Hf). The Lu–Hf zircon system is used as a tracer of initial magma separation from the mantle, and the U–Pb zircon system records magmatic crystallization. The 40Ar/39Ar white mica system is stable up to 400–450 °C dating either formation or cooling after high-grade metamorphism. Detrital U–Pb zircon ages on two major rivers draining the Eastern Alps do not record any sign of Alpine orogeny or metamorphism. Consequently, U–Pb zircon studies can entirely miss the record of collisional orogeny in cool, magma-poor collision orogens. In contrast, 40Ar/39Ar white mica ages record Early and Late Alpine metamorphism but are limited to revealing the pre-orogenic history. U–Pb zircon and 40Ar/39Ar white mica yield different information in provenance studies. In the Eastern Alps, U–Pb zircon dating of magmatic and clastic rocks indicates intense formation of magmatic rocks between 630 and 230 Ma. Felsic rocks dominate the older age groups, and increasingly young mafic rocks were dated, specifically between 265 and 230 Ma. Hf isotopes record increasing juvenile input since ∼630 Ma. Two different groups with respect to Mesoproterozoic depleted mantle ages are shown: (1) one group with a Mesoproterozoic age gap typical for Gondwana-derived units, and (2) a rare group with Mesoproterozoic ages recording a new tectonic element in the Austroalpine basement in Alps. Carbonate archives record a brief snapshot of the ambient Earth's surface conditions at their deposition. However, the geologically reasonable extraction and interpretation of geochemical proxy data from ancient, diagenetically altered rock archives is fraught with problems. Three issues stand out: the dichotomy between petrographic and geochemical alteration; the lack of quantitative age constraints for specific diagenetic phases resulting in a poorly constrained admixture of local, basin-wide and over-regional (far-field) features; and an often insufficient understanding of the temperatures and compositions of diagenetic fluids. Here, the archive of Devonian marine limestones exposed to multiple far-field diagenetic events is used as an example to explore the above-listed issues. Methods applied include petrography, micro XRF, fluid inclusion data, clumped isotopes, δ13C and δ18O isotopes, 87Sr/86Sr ratios and quartz trace element data. Devonian limestones studied here were overprinted by two cross-cutting regional fault zones (T ≈ 230 °C) by multiple events between the Variscan Orogeny and the late Paleogene. The following processes are recorded: (i) protolith deposition and partial dolomitisation during rapid burial in the Middle/Late Devonian (T ≈ 180 °C); (ii) deep burial to ca 6.5 km and tectonic/hydrothermal overprint during the Variscan Orogeny in the Carboniferous (T ≈ 90–230 °C); (iii) rapid uplift to 1–2 km burial depth at the end of the Variscan Orogeny and hypogene karstification (T ≈ 50 to 100 °C) initiated by regional geology in the Permian/Triassic; (iv) tectonic/hydrothermal overprint during the opening of the Proto-Atlantic Ocean between the Early Jurassic and the Early Cretaceous (T ≈ 50 to 130 °C); (v) tectonic/hydrothermal overprint including renewed hypogene karstification and hydrothermal calcite cement precipitation (T ≈ 50 to 180 °C) during Alpine Orogeny between the Late Cretaceous and late Paleogene. Despite this complex series of diagenetic events, the protolith limestones largely preserved their respective Middle/Late Devonian dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and 87Sr/86Sr signatures. This study documents that geochemical proxy data, placed into their petrographic, paleotemperature, and local to over-regional context, significantly increases the ability to extract quantitative information from ancient carbonate rock archives. Metamorphic investigations were conducted using mineral chemistry, phase equilibria modelling and conventional thermobarometry on four metamorphic country rock samples from the Nova-Bollinger Ni–Cu deposit, Western Australia. New P–T constraints obtained from phase equilibria modelling of garnet-bearing granulites and cordierite–sillimanite-bearing metasedimentary rocks indicate that the Nova-Bollinger deposit formed at mid-crustal depths (0.75–0.76 GPa and 880–920 °C), along high thermal gradients around 1200 °C/GPa. Peak metamorphic conditions are consistent with those obtained from the Nova-Bollinger intrusive rocks, and with metagabbros from the southern Fraser Zone, but are slightly elevated relative to metapelites examined in the southern Fraser Zone. The peak metamorphic conditions at Nova-Bollinger reflect the combined effects of regional-scale high-T conditions during orogenesis superimposed by contact metamorphism in a thermal aureole adjacent to the Nova-Bollinger mafic–ultramafic magmas. Thermal metamorphism may have been further enhanced by local heat transfer from intruding sulfide liquid, which pervasively infiltrated country rocks on scales of tens to hundreds of metres beneath the orebodies. This additional heat source may be locally significant, despite being volumetrically limited. Retrograde P–T conditions were determined by garnet–biotite conventional thermobarometry of garnet-core–matrix biotite pairs (0.29–0.45 GPa and 550–640 °C). These P–T conditions suggest that the Nova-Bollinger country rocks cooled along a near-isobaric cooling path and reflect the effects of thermal decay following emplacement of voluminous magmas into the Fraser Zone during Stage I Albany–Fraser Orogeny. We present the first quantitative P–T constraints for host rocks of the intrusion-hosted Nova-Bollinger Ni–Cu deposit in the Fraser Zone, Western Australia. Peak metamorphism at Nova-Bollinger occurred at 0.75–0.76 GPa and 880–920 °C (1200 °C/GPa). GBAQ-GB thermobarometry records re-equilibration conditions at 0.29–0.45 GPa and 550–640 °C, indicating near-isobaric retrograde cooling. Infiltration of sulfide liquids into host country rocks may provide a volumetrically low but significant contribution of heat to high-T metamorphism during formation of orthomagmatic deposits in mid-crustal terranes. The dominant structural fabric in the Eastern Goldfields is the steep north- to north-northwest-trending S2 foliation that is axial planar to upright F2 folds, developed during intense horizontal east–west shortening (D2–4 event). These structures consistently overprint D1 structures, which comprise layer-parallel S1 foliation, extensional shears, thrusts and recumbent F1 folds. The D1 event represents a separate and distinct episode of deformation with a markedly different stress regime (dominant vertical σ1), compared with the stress regime during the D2–4 events (horizontal east–west oriented σ1). There is little evidence for pre-2670 Ma ductile deformation in the Eastern Goldfields, as: (1) the ca 2730–2670 Ma greenstone sequences are deposited conformably on the older ca 2800 Ma greenstone sequences, with the first significant angular unconformities observed at the base of the post greenstone late basins; (2) a lack of schist or gneiss clasts in the late basins suggests that the surrounding uplifted sequence was largely undeformed; (3) the layer-parallel S1 foliation is observed throughout the 2720–2670 Ma greenstone sequence; and (4) the dominant low north- and south-plunges of F2 folds suggest that the sequence was predominantly flat-lying prior to strong east–west shortening (D2–4 events). The ca 2670–2655 Ma D1 event represents a period of sagduction that occurred immediately after cessation of rifting as a result of gravitational instability from deposition of dense, cold, greenstone sequences onto thinned, light, hot felsic crust. Late basins represent depocentres on the sinking greenstones during sagduction. Marked contrasts in the structural style of gold deposits, metallogeny and fluid sources, typically attributed to progressive deformation during orogenesis, could instead reflect temporally distinct mineralising events during changing tectonic regimes. In the East Yilgarn, an early plumbing system dominated by north-northwest-trending basin-controlling structures was likely established during rifting and focused fluids during multiple hydrothermal circulation events. ca 2720–2670 Ma greenstone sequences in the Eastern Goldfields were deposited in intracratonic rift basins. Rifting triggered an episode of sagduction that formed the early dome-and-basin geometry of the Eastern Goldfields and the onset of orogenesis at ca 2650 Ma (D2–4 events) modified the existing dome-and-basin geometry. The onset of the Cossato-Mergozzo-Brissago shear zone within the Strona Ceneri Border Zone in the W-Southalpine basement (Italy) and its role in the collapse of the Variscan crust have been the subject of considerable controversy. A set of new petrographic, geochemical and geochronological data from a suite of syn-kinematic migmatitic paragneiss and amphibolites in between the upper and lower crustal sections of the W-Southalpine basement provide new evidence on the thermo-mechanical role played by the middle crust in the evolution of the Permian Southalpine basement. The petrological investigation of these amphibolite-facies rocks and U–Pb ages from monazite crystals, occurring in distinct microstructural positions, provide new P–T-t constraints on the late-Paleozoic tectono-thermal evolution of the Variscan middle crust. The SCBZ units recorded tectonic events from a possible Early Silurian Cenerian (ca. 440 Ma) overprint onto the proto-sedimentary units of the Southalpine basement to the Mid-Permian (ca. 285 Ma) syn-kinematic partial melting event developed close to the CMB shear zone. Phase equilibria modeling is used to constrain the metamorphic conditions recorded by this section of the Variscan basement. Pressure–temperature (P–T) isochemical phase diagrams show that, after the ca. 330 Ma Variscan metamorphic peak at P ≅ 4 kbar and T < 630 °C, the SCBZ paragneiss experienced isobaric heating up to 700–720 °C at ca. 285 Ma, which led to the formation of a syn-kinematic partial melting event coeval to the emplacement of the Mafic Complex in the lower Ivrea-Verbano Zone. These new geochronological and petrological constraints on the SCBZ paragneiss seem to corroborate the hypothesis that the transition from the stage of mature Variscan orogen to the stage of its collapse developed in the Permian, at ca. 285 Ma. Thus, we argue that the orogenic collapse was probably driven by the rheological weakening of the mid-crustal SCBZ units induced by their syn-tectonic partial melting and, ultimately, by the coeval thermal perturbation of the crust due to the intrusion of the mafic igneous suite at the crust-mantle boundary. The Sakarya Zone of northern Turkey contains a well-preserved Early-Middle Jurassic and Late Cretaceous submarine magmatic arc constructed over pre-Jurassic bedrocks that are considered to be the eastward extension of the Armorican Terrane Assemblage in Europe. In this study, we present U-Pb-Hf isotopic data from the detrital zircons of middle Permian and Lower Jurassic sandstones to reveal episodes of Paleozoic-early Mesozoic magmatic flare-ups. Detrital zircon ages, together with data from the literature, define three major age groups at 400-380 Ma, 326310 Ma, and 250-230 Ma, which indicates three distinct magmatic flare-ups. In addition, there are minor age clusters at 460-430 Ma and 215-195 Ma. Initial eHf values of the detrital zircons indicate significant juvenile input during the Triassic flare-up, the involvement of significantly reworked crustal material during the late Carboniferous magmatic flare-up, and both juvenile and reworked crustal material during the Middle Devonian magmatic flare-up. Within the pre-Jurassic continental basement rocks of the Sakarya Zone, the late Carboniferous igneous rocks are well documented and most voluminous, and the Middle Devonian rocks are known locally, while the Triassic igneous rocks--apart fromthose in Triassic accretionary complexes--are hardly known. Because the Sakarya Zone is a Gondwana-derived continental block that was later involved in the Variscan and Alpine orogenies, these magmatic flare-ups cannot be explained by subduction-related processes along a single subduction zone. We propose that the Sakarya Zone rifted from the northern margin of Gondwana during the Late Ordovician-Silurian, the Devonian magmatic flare-up (400-380 Ma) was related to the southward subduction of the Rheic Ocean beneath the Sakarya Zone during its northward drift, the late Carboniferous magmatic flare-up (326-310 Ma) occurred following the collision of the Sakarya Zone with Laurussia, and the Triassic flare-up (250-230 Ma) resulted from northward subduction of the Tethys Ocean beneath the Sakarya Zone. Comparison with data from the literature shows that the Triassic and late Carboniferous magmatic flare-ups are also characteristic features of neighboring Armorican domains, such as the Balkans and the Caucasus; however, the Middle Devonian flare-up appears to be restricted to the Sakarya Zone. Along with the late Carboniferous flare-up, the Late Ordovician-Silurian flare-up, which is locally recorded in the Sakarya Zone, is typical of the Armorican Terrane Assemblage as a whole. Fluid flow in sedimentary basins not only impacts redistribution of the geothermal cycle and precipitation of ore deposits, but also exerts control on hydrocarbon migration and accumulation. However, reconstructing the history of fluid flow in basins that have experienced multiple tectonic deformation events is exceedingly difficult. Here, we examined petrography, in situ U-Pb geochronology, and rare earth element (REE) and C-O isotope geochemistry, as well as fluid inclusion microthermometry of fracture fillings within the Cambrian Niutitang Formation shales at the southeastern margin of the Upper Yangtze platform, southwestern China. The results show that four main fluid flow pulses are identified based on cathodoluminescence images, U-Pb ages, and geochemical data, namely, 446-428 Ma (fibrous calcite and barytocalcite), 343-329 Ma (calcite I), 113 Ma (calcite II), and 63 Ma (calcite III). The fibrous calcite (ca. 446 Ma) and barytocalcite (ca. 428 Ma) veins, corresponding to the late Caledonian Orogeny, show significantly positive Eu-Y anomalies, negative Ce anomalies, and enrichment in heavy REE, similar to their host rocks, suggesting that the mineral-forming fluids were derived mainly from dissolution of the host rocks. An abundance of bitumen inclusions with homogenization temperatures (Th) of 93.1-137.4 °C and high salinities (5-8 wt%) indicate that the first fluid flow pulse occurred during the oil generation stage in a closed fluid system. Calcite I (ca. 343-329 Ma) exhibits REE depletion and high Y/Ho ratios, a low fluid inclusion salinity (2-10 wt%) with Th = 78.4-125.8 °C, and C-O isotopic compositions similar to the underlying marine carbonates. This suggests that calcite I formed in an open fluid system, which was related to the transition from compression to extension during the Hercynian Orogeny. The pre-existing faults were reactivated and opened, resulting in the leakage and reconstruction of hydrocarbon reservoirs. Calcite II (ca. 113.4 Ma) has similar REE + Y patterns and C-O isotopic compositions to the host rocks. It contains abundant single-phase hydrocarbon gas (CH4) inclusions with high Th (164.1-211.1 °C) and salinity (6-14 wt%) values, indicating that the third phase fluid was derived largely from the host rocks and migrated during the early Yanshanian Orogeny. Lastly, calcite III (ca. 62.7 Ma) exhibits extremely low REE concentrations, low 813Cpdb [peedee belemnite] values (--6.74%c), and low fluid inclusion salinities (0.3-7.0 wt%) with Th = 61.9-97.1 °C, suggesting that the fourth fluid flow pulse was affected by meteoric water to some extent. This can be interpreted to represent an open fluid system, which caused gas dispersion in the Niutitang Formation shales. There are some persistent basic questions pertaining to the bedrock schist of New York City (NYC). How many mappable schist formations are exposed in NYC, and what was the sedimentary protolith of the Manhattan schists? Our proposed answers are based in part on a blending of published paleontological and radiometric dating results that constrain the timing of Taconic subduction and the best choice of a pelitic protolith for the schists of NYC. We have chemically analyzed some samples of schist and shales at key locations to evaluate the plausibility of our proposals. The compelling published evidence indicates that the Taconic Orogeny began about 475 Ma, when peri-Laurentian plates began the process of east-dipping subduction under the Moretown Terrane, resulting in a magmatic flareup of the Shelburne Falls arc that carried the Moretown Terrane west across NYC. East-dipping subduction accounts for early Ordovician metamorphism until an oceanic slab break-off event at about 466 Ma. Our review of the biostratigraphic data indicates a continuation of subduction and the deposition of pelitic sediments until about 455 Ma, during the transition to deep-water turbiditic sediment deposition. This disqualifies all post-455 Ma turbidites as viable protoliths for the NYC Manhattan schists but does include the Late Cambrian to lowermost Late Ordovician pelites of the Jutland Sequence that are exposed directly west of NYC in New Jersey. Our new chemical analyses of Jutland sediments and each of the three named schists from the NYC plot as a single geochemical population. We, therefore, propose that the schists of NYC could collectively be referred to as the Manhattan schist of the Late Cambrian to lower Late Ordovician. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Accurately imaging seismogenic structures is crucial for seismic hazard assessment. This is especially important around the deformation front (DF) region off SW Taiwan, where seismic potential is high but the fault structure and seismic activity are still poorly understood. Here, we present a comprehensive delineation of seismogenic structures along the onshore and offshore DF of SW Taiwan, utilizing hypocenter relocations and first-motion focal mechanism solutions from January 1991 to March 2019. Five distinctive seismogenic structures are delineated. Particularly, the energetic seismic activity initialled after the 2017 Mw5.3 Tainan earthquake and migrated northeastward along the western side of the DF. The offshore trace of the DF could serve as a boundary delimiting the seismic activity driven by the flexural stress of the subducted Eurasia Plate to the west of the DF. This observation could constrain the magnitude estimation of future earthquakes offshore SW Taiwan. Meanwhile, the areas with higher seismic moment release are located near the DF rather than known faults, indicating that the DF may dominate the seismic moment release. However, further study is warranted into the intricate relationship among seismic strain variation, the structure of DF, and seismic activity to further understand the seismic potential. Our first-motion focal mechanism solutions show that several earthquakes in SW Taiwan were characterized by P-axis orientations parallel to the strike of the Taiwan orogeny. Those events are preferably explained by the lateral compression induced by the ongoing collision between the Eurasia and Philippine Sea plates.

Objective The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is one of the most seismically active regions along the Mediterranean-Himalayan seismic belt. Understanding the earthquake-controlling effect of the active tectonic system in this region is crucial for analyzing regional strong earthquake hazards. Methods We analyzed earthquake activity with MW≥6.0 since 1990 and their tectonic mechanism around the Tibetan Plateau, focusing on the continental collision-extrusion tectonic system. Results The results show that the system plays a significant role in governing regional strong earthquake activity. Specifically, MW≥6.5 earthquakes primarily occur along the main boundary fault zone of this tectonic system, exhibiting a relatively regular spatio-temporal migration process. Moreover, the multi-layered extrusion-rotation active tectonic system in the eastern Tibetan Plateau constitutes the primary earthquake-controlling structure of the strong earthquake process since 1990, followed by the thrust faults of the Himalayan foreland. Therefore, the extrusion tectonic system of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau should be the focus for the trend analysis of the strong earthquake activity in the future, especially the most active secondary extrusion tectonic units such as the Bayan Har block. Comparative analysis of strong earthquake activities in and around the Anatolian plate reveals similar continental collision-extrusion tectonic systems and earthquake-controlling effects in this area, indicating that this tectonic system is a typical earthquake-controlling structure in the intracontinental orogenic belt. Conclusion Further comprehensive analysis suggests that the active tectonic system can significantly control regional strong earthquake activity. Firstly, most of the strong earthquake events occur in the main boundary fault zone of the fault block in the tectonic system. Secondly, the strong earthquake events along different structural zones in the tectonic system often have linkage effects or mutual triggering relationships, and the complex or particular structural sites are often where double earthquakes or earthquake swarm activities easily occur. Thirdly, when a certain structural unit or tectonic zone in the tectonic system is in an active stage, strong earthquake clustering phenomena occur. Significance A thorough understanding of the coordinated deformation relationships between major active faults in the tectonic system, the segmented rupture behavior of strong earthquake activity in active fault zones, and the characteristics of "long period, quasi-periodicity and clustering" of strong earthquake recurrence in situ on active faults will assist in more accurately assessing the future seismic hazard of active fault zones when analyzing the future trend of strong earthquake activity based on the active tectonic system.

In the northern part of the Marrakech High Atlas (MHA), along the southern Variscan segment of the Western Meseta, a Variscan granitic intrusion crops out, intruding metasediments and meta-volcanosedimentary rocks of Early Cambrian to Ordovician age. A new whole-rock Rb-Sr isochron age of 268 ± 9 Ma for the granite, combined with a previously published whole-rock Rb-Sr radiometric dating (271 ± 3 Ma), reveals a post-kinematic (tectonic) character with regard to the main Variscan deformational event, belonging within the tectonic context of the Moroccan Variscan orogenic belt. Geochemically, the Azegour intrusion is metaluminous to peraluminous and exhibits a calc-alkaline affinity with a ferruginous composition. The massif shows an extremely differentiated character (SiO2 = 77.53–78.14 per cent), K2O and high total alkali contents, FeOt/(FeOt + MgO) and Ga/Al ratios, which have typical characteristics of an A-type granite. In addition, the granite contains high concentrations of LREE (LaN/SmN= 7.9–13.67) relative to HREE (LaN/YbN= 4.81–11.61) and a well-defined Eu negative anomaly (Eu/Eu* = 0.44–0.75). The granitic samples exhibit a strong enrichment of the most incompatible elements (RbN/YbN = 69.84–159.98) and a strong depletion of Ba, Sr, Eu, Nb, P and Ti. These characteristics are similar to those of A1-type granites. The absence of mineralogy typical of an S-type granite, combined with its weakly peraluminous character [A/CNK (molar Al2O3/CaO+Na2O+K2O) = 1,013–1,045], suggest that there is little or no significant involvement of supracrustal sources in the petrogenesis of the intrusion studied. Despite the strongly differentiated character of Azegour granitic rocks samples, their multi-element patterns shows many similarities to those of I-type granitoids, which has led to postulate that the parental liquids of A1-type were derived from partial melting of mafic magmas. The representative samples studied show less depleted εNd(t = 270 Ma) values of −0.94 to −4.85 and lower positive to slightly negative εSr(t = 270 Ma) values of −1.45 to 9.32. The isotopic data suggest that the Azegour granite was emplaced 270 myr ago, apparently generated by partial melting of a mafic/intermediate magma source in the lower crust as a result of the underplating of the asthenosphere mantle-derived Oceanic Island Basalt-like magmas. Alternatively, their isotopic signatures also can be attributed to the interaction and/or hybridisation of basaltic liquids derived from the mantle with these lower crust materials. The generated parental magma probably occurred at deep structural levels and involved fractional crystallisation processes by the separation of a mineralogical association composed of plagioclase + potassium feldspar ± biotite ± amphibole ± sphene ± apatite. The whole-rock Rb-Sr age of 268 ± 9 Ma, whole-rock geochemistry and Sr-Nd isotopic compositions of εNd(t = 270 Ma) and εSr(t = 270 Ma), combined with fieldwork data, suggest that the Azegour granite was emplaced during the later stage of compressional Variscan events in the MHA.

We present a 3‐D crustal S‐wave velocity (Vs) model for eastern and northeastern Tibet utilizing ambient noise tomography. Our model reveals that crustal flow channels are absent in northeastern Tibet. In this region, the Kunlun Fault (KLF) significantly impacts mid‐lower crust low‐Vs anomalies. In addition, isolated low‐Vs anomalies beneath the Qilian orogeny are unrelated to the low‐Vs materials of the Tibetan Plateau. In the mid‐lower crust of the Songpan‐Ganzi terrane, its northeastern corner exhibits continuous low‐Vs anomalies, limited to areas south of the West Qinglin and west of 104° E. This suggests that a small‐scale northward viscous flow of crustal materials exists in the eastern KLF. However, two significant crustal flow channels (Vs ≤ 3.3 km/s) are observed in eastern Tibet. Timing is a key data for understanding the origin of faulting. The Balcones fault system (BFS) extends ~600 km along the northern margin of the Gulf of Mexico oil basin and controls springs that supply the major cities in Texas, but its origin is unclear. We provide its first direct timing by applying U–Pb geochronology on seven calcite‐mineralized fault surfaces. We have found that this extensional fault system formed during the Palaeocene‐middle Eocene time (from 61.3 ± 2.7 to 45.4 ± 2.1 Ma), which is much earlier than previous estimates. We show that the formation of the BFS coincides with the largest clastic influx in the northern Gulf of Mexico basin that resulted from Laramide uplift and erosion. This timing and the location of the BFS along the Ouachita suture, support our interpretation of this fault system formed as the result of lithospheric flexure related to Paleogene sedimentary loading. The Troiseck-Floning and Rosskogel nappes are part of the Austroalpine Unit in the eastern part of the Eastern Alps. The nappes are in tectonic contact and comprise Permian to Mesozoic lower greenschist facies metamorphic metasediments, but only the Troiseck-Floning Nappe consists of a pre-Permian crystalline basement (Troiseck Complex) as well. LA-ICP-MS U–Pb zircon ages, Rb–Sr biotite ages and geochemical data unravel the geological evolution of these tectonic units from Neoproterozoic to Mesozoic times. Detrital U–Pb zircon analyses from siliciclastic metasediments of the Troiseck Complex indicate a late Ediacaran to early Cambrian deposition age of the volcanoclastic sequence. The age distribution correlates with a position along the northeastern Gondwana margin. A late Cambrian crystallization age (502.4 ± 6.8 Ma) of granitic intrusions together with evidence for Late Cambrian/Ordovician magmatism and metamorphism indicate a position at an active plate margin. Polyphase overprinting during the Variscan orogeny is recorded by Late Devonian/early Carboniferous pegmatite dikes (~ 353 Ma) that formed after an early Variscan event, while Pennsylvanian ages of overgrowth rims and inherited grains (~ 320 Ma) are evidence for late Variscan metamorphism. Rhyolitic to andesitic volcanic rocks from the Troiseck-Floning and Rosskogel nappes (271–264 Ma) concomitant with intrusions of porphyric granitoids now transformed to augen gneiss (271 Ma) yield evidence for Permian rift-related magmatism that is widely reported from the Eastern Alps and Western Carpathians. Rb–Sr biotite ages (75–74 Ma) indicate Late Cretaceous cooling below c. 300 °C. This relates to Late Cretaceous exhumation of the Troiseck-Floning Nappe following an Eo-Alpine metamorphic overprint at lower greenschist-facies metamorphic conditions. Based on the similar lithostratigraphy, analogous geological evolution and structure, the Troiseck-Floning Nappe represents the lateral extension of the Seckau Nappe. [Display omitted] The Altai orogen is a typical intracontinental orogen in Central Asia that experienced far-field deformation associated with Indian-Eurasian plate convergence. This region is characterized by uplift comparable to that of the Tianshan Mountains but has a distinct strain rate. Half of the Indo-Asia strain is accommodated by the Tianshan Mountains, whereas the Altai Mountains accommodates only 10%. To elucidate how the Altai Mountains produced such a large amount of uplift with only one-fifth of the strain rate of the Tianshan Mountains, we constructed a detailed crustal image of the Altai Mountains based on a new 166.8-km deep seismic reflection profile. The prestack migration images reveal an antiform within the Erqis crust, an ∼10 km Moho offset between the Altai arc and the East Junggar area, and a major south-dipping (30° dip) thrust in the lower crust beneath the Altai Mountains, which is connected to the Moho offset. The south-dipping thrust not only records the southward subduction of the Ob-Zaisan Ocean in the Paleozoic but also controlled the Altai deformation pattern in the Cenozoic with the Erqis antiform. The Erqis antiform prevented the extension of deformation to the Junggar crust. The south-dipping thrust in the lower crust of the Altai area caused extrusion of the lower crust, generating uplift at the surface, thickening of the crust, and steep (∼10 km) Moho deepening in the Altai Mountains. This process significantly widened the deformation zone of the Altai Mountains. In this study, we combined low-t thermochronology with outcrop- to micro-scale kinematic and petrological observations in the metamorphic basement of the Juhor Mts. in Central Serbia. The Juhor Mts. comprise northern parts of the Europe-derived Serbo–Macedonian Unit, at the transition towards the Adria-derived tectonic units of the Internal Dinarides. The Late Paleozoic Variscan orogeny resulted in the medium-grade greenschist to amphibolite facies metamorphism in the core of the mountains, as inferred from our thin section-scale observations. During the subsequent Alpine orogeny, the tectonic setting of the entire Europe–Adria transitional area was strongly influenced by the geodynamic evolution of the intervening Neotethyan Vardar Ocean. The last recorded thermal overprint in the northern segments of the Serbo–Macedonian metamorphics occurred in the latest Jurassic due to their burial during the obduction of the Eastern Vardar ophiolites over the European continental margin. According to our thermochronological and field structural data, the exhumation of the Juhor Mts. metamorphic basement occurred during two separate phases of extensional deformations. During the Late Cretaceous extension, the Serbo–Macedonian metamorphics were exhumed for ~3 to 6 km along a ductile Morava shear zone, and later structurally juxtaposed against the low-grade metamorphics of the adjacent Supragetic Unit of the Serbian Carpathians. The latest phase of ~1 to 2,5 km tectonic exhumation and uplift in the Miocene took place along the brittle normal faults that accommodated the opening of the Morava Valley Corridor, which forms the southern prolongation of the Pannonian Basin. Accessory columbite-(Fe) to tantalite-(Fe) from three granitic pegmatites of the Tatric Superunit (Bratislava Massif of the Malé Karpaty Mts., Bojná Massif of the Považský Inovec Mts. and Suchý Massif of the Strážovské Mts.) was used for dating by the in-situ LA–ICP–MS U–Pb method. The columbite–tantalite crystals were sampled from the most fractionated pegmatite dykes of the beryl–columbite subtype situated in the pre-Alpine, Paleozoic crystalline basement of the Tatric Superunit, Western Carpathians (western and central Slovakia). The obtained columbite–tantalite Concordia ages are as follows: 354.5 ± 4.5 Ma (Jezuitské Lesy pegmatite, the Bratislava granite Massif), 360 ± 5.0 Ma (Moravany nad Váhom, Striebornica Ridge pegmatite, the Bojná Massif), and 352 ± 8.5 Ma (Liešťany, Bystrý Hill pegmatite, the Suchý Massif). The columbite–tantalite ages show Mid-Variscan formation of rare-element pegmatites from the Devonian/Carboniferous boundary to Tournaisian stage, which is coeval with the emplacement of cogenetic granites during the main phase of Variscan intracontinental subduction and collision. The obtained columbite–tantalite age interval of rare-element granitic pegmatites of the Tatric Superunit (~360 to 350 Ma) is generally older than the ages of Be- and Li-rich rare-element pegmatites of the Moldanubian Superunit in the Bohemian Massif (~340 to 320 Ma). The rare-element granitic pegmatites of the Austroalpine Superunit (Eastern Alps) are significantly younger (~290 to 240 Ma) because they were formed in an extension regime during the Permian to Early Triassic post-Variscan orogenic collapse. Granulites exposed in high-grade regional metamorphic belts and exhumed as xenoliths in basaltic pipes are considered as window into the deep crust thus play a key role in constraining models of crustal processes and evolution. Here we present a detailed investigation of the tectono-metamorphic history of the two-pyroxene mafic granulite located in the southern region of the Sonapahar area. This involves conducting monazite chemical dating, analyzing petrological and geochemical characteristics, applying geothermobarometry, performing phase equilibria modeling, and tracing a pressure-temperature (P-T) path. Metamorphic P-T conditions estimated for the mafic granulite using conventional thermobarometer and winTWQ shows temperature in excess of 800°C and pressure of about 8.6 kbar, stand for high temperature granulite facies metamorphism. The metamorphic evolution path obtained from P-T pseudosection suggest a clockwise P-T evolution path, thus signify isothermal decompression and indicate rapid upliftment. Geochemical study of trace and rare earth elements (REE), suggest protolith is of tholeiite basalt in nature that is derived from back arc basin setting near to subduction zone. Additionally, the analyzed rock was examined using primitive mantle-normalized trace element spider diagram. The results indicate an enrichment in large-ion lithophile elements (Th, U, K, Pb) and a depletion in high field-strength elements (Nb, Ta, Ti). The presence of negative anomalies in Nb and Ti, coupled with elevated values of Th, K, and Pb, suggests the possibility of crustal contamination. Monazite chemical data from the studied rock reveals a peak metamorphism age of 521.3 ± 4.20 Ma, which corresponds to the Kuunga Orogeny in the later phase of global Pan-African collision. The Klamath Mountains Province of Northern California and southern Oregon, USA, consists of generally east-dipping terranes assembled via Paleozoic to Mesozoic subduction along the western margin of North America. The Klamath Mountains Province more than doubled in mass from Middle Jurassic to Early Cretaceous time, due to alternating episodes of extension (e.g., rifting and formation of the Josephine ophiolite) and shortening (e.g., Siskiyou and Nevadan events). However, the tectonic mechanisms driving this profound Mesozoic growth of the Klamath Mountains Province are poorly understood. In this paper, we show that formation of the Condrey Mountain schist (CMS) of the central Klamath Mountains Province spanned this critical time period and use the archive contained within the CMS as a key to deciphering the Mesozoic tectonics of the Klamath Mountains Province. Igneous samples from the outer CMS subunit yield U-Pb zircon ages of ca. 175–170 Ma, which reflect volcanic protolith eruptive timing. One detrital sample from the same subunit contains abundant (~54% of zircon grains analyzed) Middle Jurassic ages with Paleozoic and Proterozoic grains comprising the remainder and yields a maximum depositional age (MDA) of ca. 170 Ma. These ages, in the context of lithologic and thermochronologic relations, suggest that outer CMS protoliths accumulated in an outboard rift basin and subsequently underthrust the Klamath Mountains Province during the Late Jurassic Nevadan orogeny. Five samples of the chiefly metasedimentary inner CMS yield MDAs ranging from 160 Ma to 130 Ma, with younger ages corresponding to deeper structural levels. Such inverted age zonation is common in subduction complexes and, considering existing K-Ar ages, suggests that the inner CMS was assembled by progressive underplating over a >10 m.y. timespan. Despite this age zonation, age spectra derived from structurally shallow and deep portions of the inner CMS closely overlap those derived from the oldest section of the Franciscan subduction complex (South Fork Mountain schist). These relations suggest that the inner CMS is a composite of South Fork Mountain schist slices that were sequentially underplated beneath the Klamath Mountains Province. The age, inboard position, and structural position (i.e., the CMS resides directly beneath Jurassic arc assemblages with no intervening mantle) of the CMS suggest that these rocks were emplaced during one or more previously unrecognized episodes of shallow-angle subduction restricted to the Klamath Mountains Province. Furthermore, emplacement of the deepest portions of the CMS corresponds with the ca. 136 Ma termination of magmatism in the Klamath Mountains Province, which we relate to the disruption of asthenospheric flow during slab shallowing. The timing of shallow-angle subduction shortly precedes that of the westward translation of the Klamath Mountains Province relative to correlative rocks in the northern Sierra Nevada Range, which suggests that subduction dynamics were responsible for relocating the Klamath Mountains Province from the arc to the forearc. In aggregate, the above relations require at least three distinct phases of extension and/or rifting, each followed by an episode of shallow-angle underthrusting. Freixo de Numão (FNG) and Capinha (CG) granites are prominent intrusions in the Douro Group (northern Central Iberian Zone, CIZ) and Beiras Supergroup (southern CIZ) metasediments, respectively. U-Pb dating revealed crystallization ages of 306 ± 2 Ma for FNG and 301 ± 3 Ma for CG, whereas Lu–Hf systematics has shown ɛHft values ranging from −4.5 to +0.6 and from −5.5 to +0.3 in FNG and CG autocrysts, respectively, suggesting that they originate from heterogeneous crustal anatectic melts, but a direct mantle-derived material contribution can also be considered. The isotopic data of inherited zircon cores of both granites, with ɛHft values ranging from −16.8 to +8.4 in FNG, and from −19.4 to +10.1 in CG, are compatible with a derivation from heterogeneous Neoproterozoic metasedimentary sources, consisting of juvenile and recycled crustal materials, comparable to those of the wall rocks. However, the less evolved initial 176Hf/177Hf signature of magmatic zircons of both granites requires more immature metasediments/juvenile materials as main sources for the parental magmas. Archean to Palaeoproterozoic basement rocks exposed in the Dunhuang block in NW China were affected by Palaeozoic crustal reworking, as constrained by previous zircon U–Pb geochronological investigations. However, relationships between the Palaeozoic metamorphic ages, P–T evolution and deformational history of the region remain ambiguous. In order to address this issue, P–T–t–D paths of paragneisses from the basement of the Hongliuxia belt in the southern Dunhuang block were investigated. Inclusions in garnet and kyanite from the paragneisses are considered as vestiges of Palaeozoic M1 metamorphism corresponding to initiation of the prograde evolution. The earliest continuous metamorphic fabric is an originally steep N–S striking foliation S2. This fabric was reworked by vertical folds F3 associated with the development of a ubiquitous steep, mainly south‐dipping, E‐W striking axial planar foliation S3. The S2 foliation in paragneisses is mainly associated with Grt–St–Ky–Sil–Bt–Ms–Pl–Qz–Rt assemblages in samples from the western domain and with Grt–Ky–Sil–Bt–Kfs–Pl–Qz–Rt assemblages in samples from the northeastern domain of the Hongliuxia belt. The S3 foliation is associated with Grt–Sil–St–Bt–Ms–Pl–Qz–Ilm assemblages in the western domain and with Grt–Sil–Bt–Ms–Pl–Qz–Kfs–Ilm assemblages in the northeastern domain, followed by growth of chlorite in both domains. Early prograde stage (M1) from 4.0–6.5 kbar and 540–560°C to metamorphic peak (M2a) at 9–10 kbar and ~650–675°C is mainly recorded by paragneisses from the western domain. Subsequent decompression is initially accompanied by heating (M2b) constrained to 6.5–7 kbar and 675–710°C in the western domain, and to 6–6.5 kbar and ~730°C in the northeastern domain, followed by cooling (M3) through 4–6.5 kbar and 550–650°C till late chloritization (late M3). In situ U–Pb dating of monazite combined with monazite trace‐element compositions suggests that prograde evolution (M1) most likely started at c. 406 Ma, peak‐P conditions (M2a) were reached at 400–394 Ma, decompression associated with heating (M2b) took place at 393–391 Ma, and cooling (M3) during exhumation probably lasted from 380 to 354 Ma. The prograde metamorphism probably reflects burial during underthrusting of neighbouring continental basement (the Alxa block or an equivalent) below the Dunhuang block. This event culminated in pure shear thickening (D2a) of the whole supra‐subduction margin followed by minor heating and exhumation (D2b). The D3‐M3 event is interpreted as reflecting exhumation during orthogonal shortening of the system, possibly in response to an independent orogenic cycle. Combined with the available regional data, this study reveals the existence of a complex tectono‐metamorphic evolution for the Dunhuang block characterized by two distinct orogenic phases with (i) the thickening of a previously thinned arc‐back‐arc crust recorded in the northern and central belts at 420–410 Ma in the pro‐wedge side of the active margin (Sanweishan phase), followed by (ii) the 410–390 Ma thickening in the retro‐wedge side (Hongliuxia phase). Such a tectonic evolution of the whole Dunhuang block resembles Andean‐type migration of crustal thickening from the convergent front to hinterlands. The D3‐M3 event, potentially responsible for the juxtaposition of rocks from different geological occurrences and depths, is seemingly independent from this Andean‐type orogenic cycle. Underpinning almost every Paleozoic paleogeographic reconstruction and tectonic model of the Lachlan Orogen is the interpretation of the structural geology related to crustal collision and amalgamation. Bounding the eastern margin of the Lachlan Orogen is a north-trending corridor of Cambrian–Ordovician turbidites that in northeast Victoria are recognised as the Pinnak Sandstone or previously known as the Mallacoota Beds. This sequence contains an accretionary prism related early S* foliation, syn-sedimentary dykes, slump structures, early faults or décollements and early quartz veins. These indicate anisotropic compaction by fluid extraction in a shallow marine turbidite sequence that underwent localised deformation (D1), which can be attributed to the Benambran Orogeny (ca 450 Ma). There was a change in the rheological properties during the ensuing late Silurian D2 Bindian Orogeny (ca 420 Ma). This event produced north–south-trending upright, east-verging folds (F2) with a marked partitioning of strain between the different sedimentary units. Folds plunge south at ∼30°, are tight to isoclinal, with local collapsed hinges and limb thrusts. This D2 deformation along the paleo-Pacific margin involved dextral transpression and a southerly propagation of the deformation front. Superimposed on these structures is an east–west paleostress pattern and two episodes of faulting (D3 and D4). In the first, brittle strike-slip faults were accompanied by ductile folding related to east–west shortening during the Middle–Late Devonian Tabberabberan Orogeny (ca 385–370 Ma). These were accompanied by the emplacement of the Sandpatch Point Granite. The second episode (D4) of strike-slip faulting reactivated many of the earlier faults during further east–west shortening and was related to the Carboniferous Kanimblan Orogeny (ca 354–343 Ma). This is best seen close to the granite contact where the strong crystallised granite reinforced the contact metamorphosed greywacke sequence, inhibiting ductile deformation so that faults deformed in a brittle fashion. Eastern Australia was at a convergent plate boundary where a Middle–Late Ordovician turbiditic sequence was accreted to an accretionary prism. The Pinnak Sandstone contains a weak phyllosilicate alignment (S*), D1 faults and folds from localised deformation in the accretionary prism. The Silurian Bindian Orogeny produced upright east-verging, south-plunging F2 folds. Brittle faults overprint the Bindian tectonic features and are accompanied by minor folding, marking the transition into Middle Devonian and Carboniferous deformation and intrusive events. The kinematics and geometries associated with these deformation events reflect the changing tectonic regime along the paleo-Pacific margin of eastern Australia during east–west compression. The majority of Neoproterozoic rocks exposed in southern Libya, are comprised of intrusive coarse-grained porphyritic, two-mica, and high K-calc alkaline granite. The Jabal Fezzan Granite (JFG) is located in southwestern Libya. In this study, trace elements and whole-rock geochemistry have been used to understand the origin and the process of petrogenesis of the studied granites. The JFG is high-Si, Rb, Y, Nb, and (ASI values greater than 1.1). Mineralogically, it is characterized by the presence of minor muscovite and biotite and a lack of hornblende, exhibiting features of S-type granites, and having a character that belongs to an alkali-calcic series. According to geochemical value, light REE-enriched, characterized by moderate enrichments in LREE (La/Sm), HREE, and weak negative Eu-anomalies. The geochemical modeling of the (JFG) reveals that the JFG derived from the melting of the crust and underwent high fractional crystallization (~50%) of plagioclase and K-feldspar at (H-P) conditions (750–980°C/1–4 GPa). The Jabal Fezzan (JFG) formed during Pan-African orogenic events during the destabilization of the interior Saharan metacraton due to compression stress and transpressive movements along pre-existing weakness and reactivation of shear zones inherited from Paleoproterozoic evolution. The Neoproterozoic basement forms the northernmost margin of the intracratonic Muruzq Basin, as evidenced by (greenschist facies) and intruded granitic rocks derived at the syn-collision stage (630–540 Ma). Comprehensive U-Pb detrital zircon geochronology of Ediacaran sandstones from Oman indicates that they originated from Neoproterozoic basement with a peak magmatic age of ca. 850-780 Ma (Tonian), with lesser Paleoproterozoic and Ediacaran sources and renewed magmatic input starting at ca. 550 Ma. Comparison with detrital zircons from the Arabian-Nubian and NW Indian Shields supports an eastern Gondwana affinity for the Ediacaran succession of Oman. Tonian basement sediment sources are present in Oman. Sources for older Paleoproterozoic zircons (ca. 2500 and 1800 Ma) are not found in Oman but are known from the cratonic Indian Shield. The signal of the main magmatic events of the juvenile Arabian-Nubian Shield, peaking at ca. 640-620 Ma, is rare or absent in the Ediacaran rock succession of Oman. However, deformed Ediacaran clastic units with an Arabian-Nubian Shield affinity occur in western Oman. Influx of latest Ediacaran-early Cambrian zircons (550-525 Ma) is interpreted as due to final Cambrian Angudan/Malagasy orogeny-related magmatism. These results, together with new ages for volcano-sedimentary terranes in the subsurface of SW Oman and seismic observations, support the interpretation that the Ediacaran succession of Oman was deposited along the western, passive margin of the Greater Indian Shield, on the eastern (east and west in this paper refer to present-day coordinates) side of the Mozambique Ocean. Oman then collided with the Arabian-Nubian Shield in the early Cambrian, when the Angudan/Malagasy orogeny led to final consolidation of Gondwana. Our data support the inference that the youngest and final suture between the Indian and Arabian Shields lies in the subsurface of Oman along the early Cambrian western deformation front. Although many collisional orogens form after subduction of oceanic lithosphere between two continents, some orogens result from strain localization within a continent via inversion of structures inherited from continental rifting. Intracontinental rift-inversion orogens exhibit a range of structural styles, but the underlying causes of such variability have not been extensively explored. We use numerical models of intracontinental rift inversion to investigate the impact of parameters including rift structure, rift duration, post-rift cooling, and convergence velocity on orogen structure. Our models reproduce the natural variability of rift-inversion orogens and can be categorized using three endmember styles: asymmetric underthrusting (AU), distributed thickening (DT), and localized polarity flip (PF). Inversion of narrow rifts tends to produce orogens with more localized deformation (styles AU and PF) than those resulting from wide rifts. However, multiple combinations of the parameters we investigated can produce the same structural style. Thus, our models indicate no unique relationship between orogenic structure and the conditions prior to and during inversion. Because the style of rift-inversion orogenesis is highly contingent upon the rift history prior to inversion, knowing the geologic history that preceded rift inversion is essential for translating orogenic structure into the processes that produced that structure. It is of great importance to evaluate simple methods to identify mineral occurrence for the future development of society. Applying a reconnaissance magnetic data analysis can help detect the main structural trends mounted to the occurrence of minerals. In this study, geological and geophysical data were analyzed to evaluate the main structural trends affecting mineralization in the area of Wadi El-Nakheel. Geomagnetic data were processed to remove the earth's magnetic field and reduce the magnetic pole. Some mathematical filters related to detecting and enhancing boundaries between rock units, depending on their magnetization affinity, were applied, including the first vertical derivative, the analytic signal, and 3D Euler deconvolution. After structural analysis of these data, we reached the following findings: The main structural trends from the surface and subsurface estimations were the northwest–southeast trend and the northeast–southwest trend. The orientation and origin of Wadi El-Nakheel are aligned with the main structural trend affecting the area that formed during the Red Sea Rift movement and the Pan-African orogeny. The depth of the deep-seated structure controlling the valley is 1500 m and all mineral occurrence is mainly structurally controlled in the studied area; phosphate ore outcrops are usually aligned with the northwest–southeast geological trend, and metallic ores are related to basement rock succession and the main dominant geological structures in the studied area. The Sidi Bou Othmane (SBO) pegmatite district is situated in the Central Jebilet massif, Western Meseta domain, Morocco. The SBO district is hosted essentially in a volcano-sedimentary series composed of Late-Devonian Sarhlef shales. Pegmatite bodies crop out as dykes, which are oriented from N-S to E-W and are generally variably deformed with ductile and/or brittle structures with ante, syn- or post-kinematic criteria. Petrographic observations of pegmatite dykes show that feldspars (i.e., albite, microcline) are the most abundant mineral phases, followed by quartz and micas, with tourmaline and accessory minerals such as garnet, and zircon also featuring heavily, as well as secondary minerals such as clinochlore, sericite, and illite. The geochemical study of the SBO pegmatites indicates that they have mainly S-type granitic compositions, which are peraluminous granites with calc-alkalic affinities. The study of trace elements indicates that SBO pegmatites were formed in post-orogenic syn-collision context during the Variscan orogeny by the partial melting of argilliferous sediment. They can be ascribed to the muscovite-bearing pegmatite; moreover, they have good potential regarding ceramics. The present‐day deformation style of the Eastern Cordillera in NW Argentina is strongly influenced by the inversion of pre‐existing Paleozoic and Mesozoic structures. In particular, the extensional faults and lithological contrasts resulting from the Cretaceous–Paleogene Salta Rift phase form heterogeneities that were preferentially reactivated during the Andean orogeny. Constraining the timing and characteristics of reactivation is a key to understanding the interplay between tectonics and inherited crustal anisotropies. In this study, we combine structural and sedimentological field data with a low‐temperature thermochronology data set from the area surrounding the fault‐bounded Cianzo basin. The southeastern boundary is formed by the inverted Hornocal fault, which was the basin‐bounding normal fault of the Lomas de Olmedo sub‐basin (Salta Rift basin). Lacustrine deposits of the Yacoraite Formation overspill on the footwall of this fault and mark tectonic quiescence during the post‐rift phase of the Salta Rift. Apatite (U‐Th‐Sm)/He and fission track ages in the Hornocal fault hanging wall show an onset of rapid cooling interpreted to be concomitant with fault inversion between the latest Oligocene and middle Miocene (∼24–15 Ma). Low‐temperature thermochronology data also constrain the timing of major folding in the eastern limb of the Cianzo syncline to pre‐10 Ma, whereas the western limb started tilting post‐10 Ma. Characterization of exhumation patterns related to fault activity surrounding the Cianzo basin emphasizes the influence of the pre‐existing structural framework on deformation in fold‐and‐thrust belts. The Eastern Kunlun Orogenic Belt (EKOB), located north of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, recorded voluminous late Palaeozoic – early Mesozoic intermediate-acid volcanic rocks. The tectonic evolution of the Palaeo-Tethys Ocean from initial subduction and final closure and post-collision extension has been hotly debated. This study examines the petrogenesis of Palaeozoic to Early Mesozoic volcanic rocks at six locations: Xiahe, Elashankou, Jirimai, Harizha, Nagengkangqieer, and Yazigounan. The investigation involves detailed field observations, petrology, zircon U-Pb geochronology, Lu-Hf isotopes, and whole-rock geochemical analysis. The rocks analysed represent three episodic volcanic events. The ca. 257–245 Ma volcanic rocks were derived from magma mixing response to the subduction. The ca. 227–220 Ma highly fractionated I-type volcanics were derived from partial melting of the ancient lower crust, with varying contribution proportions of mantle materials. The ca. 216 Ma A-type volcanic rocks derived from partial melting of the juvenile crust. In this study, using existing regional geological data and spatiotemporal distribution of the magmatic region, combined with our new data, we attempt to propose more rational models to reveal the tectonic evolution of the Palaeo-Tethys Ocean, and we recognize three significant time nodes: (1) Ca. 240 Ma marks the final closure time of the Palaeo-Tethys Ocean. (2) Ca. 230 Ma indicates the vital tectonic regime transition from compression to extension response to slab break-off and continued lithospheric delamination. (3) Ca. 216 Ma mark the beginning of the final stage of orogeny in the EKOB, and mild magmatism lasts to ca. 200 Ma in response to the mountain collapse. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
