A recent study conducted by researchers at Guangdong Medical University in Dongguan, China, has found that changes in calcium signaling are crucial for the development of glioma cells. The study focused on the role of the Mitochondrial Calcium Uniporter (MCU) in regulating glioma progression. The researchers discovered that MCU and p38 expression were positively correlated with glioma grade and tumor progression. They also found that MCU promotes glioma cell migration by activating autophagy in a p38/Transcription Factor EB (TFEB) pathway-dependent manner.
