Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of motivational interviewing based on the trans‐theoretical model promoting physical activity in older adults. Methods: A randomized controlled trial study was conducted with 117 older adults (intervention group: 58, and control group: 59) between April and November 2019. The data were collected via a questionnaire, trans‐theoretical model scales, the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly, the Katz Activities of Daily Living scale and a pedometer. The 24‐week intervention consisted of regular motivational interviewing. The control group received usual care at the family health centre. Results: Following the intervention, the Intervention Group showed significant improvements Exercise Processes of Change Scale, Exercise Self‐Efficacy Scale and Perceived Benefits of the Decisional Balance Scale for Exercise. There was a significant difference between the groups in terms of stages of change. In the Intervention Group, 81.5% were in the contemplation stage in the pre‐test, while in the post‐test, 70.4% had transitioned to the action stage. In contrast, in the control group, 62.5% were in the contemplation stage initially, but in the post‐test, only 9.3% had reached the action stage. The mean number of step counts increased significantly in favour of the Intervention Group, as did the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly total score. Conclusion: The trial indicated that after the trans‐theoretical model‐based motivational interviewing, the stages of change among the older adults improved, as did their exercise behaviours. It is recommended that the trans‐theoretical model and motivational interviewing be used by nurses to improve healthy lifestyle stage behaviours in older adults. Physical immobility ranks fourth among the leading risk factors for mortality globally.Older adults constitute the age group which leads the most sedentary life in society and is most affected by physical inactivity.In Turkey, one out of every two people undertakes insufficient physical activity, and this rate increases with advancing age. What this paper adds? Nurse‐led motivational interviewing based on the trans‐theoretical model was effective in increasing the physical activity levels of the older adults. Objective: In middle-aged individuals with early-stage knee osteoarthritis, follow-up with remote rehabilitation methods may provide effective clinical outcomes. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of telerehabilitation on pain, function, performance, strength, proprioception, and psychosocial parameters in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Design: A randomized controlled study was conducted with 54 participants with knee osteoarthritis. All patients were randomized into two groups: the home-based telerehabilitation group (n = 29) and the home-based paper group (n = 28). The home exercise program and training were provided with an instruction manual to paper group. The same home exercise and education prescriptions were given to individuals in telerehabilitation group via an online platform. Pain, function, quality of life, physical performance, muscle strength, and proprioception were evaluated at baseline and after 8 wks of intervention. In addition, satisfaction and usability were evaluated at week 8. Results: Telerehabilitation group demonstrated better improvement in terms of pain, function, quality of life index score, and left extremity proprioception (P < 0.05). Telerehabilitation group was not superior to paper group in terms of muscle strength and performance tests (except the Five Times Sit to Stand Test) (P > 0.05). Conclusions: The home-based telerehabilitation program was superior to the home-based paper group program for pain, function, quality of life, and proprioception in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Although leisure constraints that individuals have to cope with can negatively affect their social inclusion and satisfaction with life, little research has addressed the link between these variables. Therefore, the current paper examined the moderator role of leisure constraints on the relationship between satisfaction with life and leisure constraints among adults living in five different European countries. The respondents were 1,382 women and 877 men adults. The findings of analysis revealed that all factors used in the study accounted for 15% of the variance in satisfaction with life and social inclusion had a significant and positive impact on satisfaction with life. As a result, it can be said that leisure constraints had a moderating effect on the relationship between satisfaction with life and social inclusion. The present research study recommends that social inclusion should be encouraged through decreasing to leisure constraints to increase the life satisfaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Flipped classroom (FC) model has become increasingly popular in dental education (DE) with its strengths for students. However, major concerns are lack of interaction, unwillingness to complete the assignments, low engagement during the pre‐class activities because of an unwell‐designed instructional setting of FC. Objectives: The recent study aims to investigate the effects of video‐driven discussions integrated into the flipped classroom (VdDs‐FC) model on dental students' (DSs) learning achievement, practical performance, and higher‐order thinking skills in a restorative dentistry course. Methods: This study adopted a sequential explanatory design from mixed‐methods research. A total of 96 DSs participated in a dentistry faculty of Türkiye. They were randomly divided into two groups: VdDs‐FC group and the conventional flipped classroom (c‐FC) group. Results and conclusions: The results showed that the VdDs‐FC model had significant positive effects on the practical performance of DSs in practical subjects and their problem‐solving and critical thinking skills. However, there was no significant difference between the two groups in learning achievement and creativity. The use of FC in the c‐FC group did not lead to any difference in the students' achievements. Moreover, the qualitative results indicated that the VdDs‐FC model has the potential for enhancing peer learning, practical classroom activities, and higher‐order thinking skills. Implications: This study also includes several instructional implications and suggestions for educators, researchers, and practitioners on use of FC in dentistry. Lay Description: What is already known about this topic: Flipped learning has become a rapidly growing area of dentistry research.Discussion board could be beneficial to increasing dental students' higher order thinking skills, especially problem solving and critical thinking.Video‐driven discussions into flipped classroom provide several opportunities for practical performance in dental education, not for theoretical knowledge. Background: It is critical for nurses to provide healthcare services to healthy/sick individuals with a humanistic approach and with empathy. Aims: This research aimed to determine nurses' humanistic behaviour ability, empathy levels and related factors in clinical practice. Design: A descriptive cross‐sectional and exploratory study. Methods: Probability sampling method was used, and 337 nurses working in two public hospitals were included in the study. Data was collected using the Humanistic Practice Ability of Nursing Scale and the Empathy Level Determination Scale. Structural equation model analysis and descriptive statistics were used to evaluate the hypothesised model. This study adhered to the STROBE checklist for reporting. Results: Nurses' humanistic ability and empathy level in nursing practices were found to be above average. Both the ability to act humanely in nursing practices and their empathy levels were found to be significantly higher in nurses who were married and had children. A significant relationship was found between empathy levels and humanistic behaviours. Accordingly, nurses' empathy levels positively affected their humanistic care behaviours, and the model established between the two concepts was found to be statistically appropriate. Conclusions: Nurses' empathy levels positively affect their ability to act humanistically. The result of the model established between the two concepts also supports this. Care strategies should be developed that consider factors that will improve empathetic and humanistic behaviours in nurses and maximise individualised care practices. Implications for the Profession: Increasing the awareness of nurses about the factors affecting humanistic behaviours and empathic attitudes while caring for individuals in clinical practice, will contribute to improving the quality of nursing care. Aim: This study was conducted to determine the effect of music on the pain, anxiety, and comfort levels of patients who underwent bone marrow aspiration and biopsy. Methods: This study was conducted on patients with hematological malignancies. Music was used with the intervention group. Patients' pain, anxiety, and comfort levels were measured. In addition, qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with patients. Results: A significant difference (p < 0.05) was found between the experimental and control groups regarding pain, comfort and anxiety levels following the application of music. It was found that there was a negative correlation between comfort and pain (r=-0.442 p < 0.001) and between comfort and anxiety (r=-0.544 p < 0.001). As a result of qualitative interviews, patients mentioned the relaxing effect of music and the reduction of anxiety and pain levels. They also stated that music can be utilized as an alternative method. Conclusion: According to the results of the present study, music reduced the pain and anxiety levels of the patients in bone marrow aspiration and biopsy and increased their comfort levels. Background: Death is an abstract concept that extends over life. Although it is a natural part of life, people have difficulty coming to terms with it. Objective: This study was investigated the effect of fear of COVID-19 on nursing students' attitudes towards death and the care of dying patients. Results: The study is descriptive and cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 250 nursing students from two universities in Turkey. The data were collected using Demographic Characteristics Questionnaire, Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S), the Death Attitude Profile (DAP) and Frommelt Attitude Toward the Care of the Dying Scale (FATCOD). Conclusion: Female students have more fear of COVID-19 than male students. Students with a high fear of COVID-19 have more positive attitudes towards death and caring for the dying individual. While it was determined that the COVID-19 pandemic affected nursing students in many ways, it was concluded that the fear of COVID-19 had an effect on attitudes of nursing students related to end-of-life care and death. Background: The Covid-19 affected all stages of the education system, from preschool education to higher education and uncertainties in education caused various health problems, especially stress. Aim: The aim of the study was to examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on nursing students' stress levels in Turkey. Methodology: It is a cross-sectional web-based survey. The population of the study includes the students of a Nursing Department of a Faculty of Health Sciences of a state university in Turkey (N=739). The sample of this study consisted of 311 nursing students. The data were collected via Google Forms using the "Sociodemographic Data Collection Form", "Questionnaire Form Regarding the Changes in Stress Level Caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic", and "Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-14)". Descriptive statistics, One Way ANOVA, Student's t-test and multiple linear regression analysis were adopted for data analysis. Results: It was determined that students experienced moderate stress during the COVID-19 pandemic period [Perceived Stress Scale-14 (PSS-14) mean score was 29.81±7.33]. Results suggest that PSS-14 total mean scores and the variables of "I have trouble overcoming the problems in my life", "I have difficulty in concentrating", and "I feel restless and angry" were statistically significant (p<0.05). Background: Authentic leadership and empowered nurses are necessary if a healthy work environment is to be created and patient safety maintained; however, few studies have examined the impact of authentic leadership, on nurse empowerment and the patient safety climate. Purpose: The aim of the study was to investigate the impact of an educational intervention delivered through a multi-faceted training programme on nurses' perceptions of authentic leadership, nurse empowerment (both structural and psychological) and the patient safety climate. Design: A quasi-experimental study using a one-group pretest–posttest design consistent with TREND guidelines. Methods: The study was conducted in a university hospital between December 2018 and January 2020. Participants were followed for 6 months. The programme involved 36 head nurses (leaders) and 153 nurses (followers). The effectiveness of the programme was evaluated using repeated measures of analysis of variance, dependent sample t-tests and hierarchical regression analysis. Results: Following the intervention, safety climate and authentic leadership scores increased among both leaders and followers. Structural and psychological empowerment scores also increased among followers. We found that authentic leadership and structural empowerment were predictors of safety climate. Conclusion: The implementation of the education programme resulted in positive changes in participants' perceptions of authentic leadership and empowerment, which can enhance patient safety. Implications: Healthcare organizations can implement similar multi-faceted training programmes focused on authentic leadership, and nurse empowerment to increase patient safety. Achieving effective results in such programmes can be facilitated by motivating participants with the support of the top management. Migration scholars have long regarded the trajectory of the third generation as a critical test of assimilation; however, scholarship to date has been limited and largely focused on socioeconomic attainment. In this article, we rely on a large dataset of adolescent respondents in England, Germany, and the Netherlands to compare the second and third generations in terms of their social networks and cultural identities. The third generation shows stronger ties to the native fourth-plus generation alongside weaker ties to coethnics. We document comparable, albeit more moderate, dynamics of assimilation over generations in regard to national and ethnic identification, along with substantial variation by country of destination and ethnic origin group. Our results point to a dominant trend of assimilation at the third generation and suggest future challenges to provide a more durable assessment of postwar migration waves two generations after settlement. Background and Objectives: Nutrition literacy is a concept that improves individuals' diet quality, and quality of life and contributes to enhancing their general health by using and interpreting nutrition-related information correctly. This study purposed to determine the nutritional literacy and quality of life levels of university students and relate them with anthropometric measurements. Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional study and was conducted with 374 university students over the age of 18 at a state university. Nutrition literacy was assessed by using the Evaluation Instrument of Nutrition Literacy on Adults (EINLA), and quality of life was evaluated with the World Health Organization's Quality of Life Questionnaire (Turkish_WHOQOL-BREF). Waist, middle-upper arm, neck circumference, body weight, and height were measured in accordance with appropriate techniques by researchers. Independent t and One-Way ANOVA tests were used to determine differences between two and more than two mean values. Pearson correlation analysis was used to detect relationships between scores of total EINLA, its sections, total Turkish_WHOQOL-BREF and its dimensions, and other variables. Results: The mean EINLA and WHOQOL-BREF scores of the participants were 25.3±4.7 (borderline) and 54.3±15.1, respectively. While the EINLA score varied according to gender, faculty (health sciences vs others), and degree (1 to 4), the WHOQOL-BREF score varied according to gender and living place (home vs dormitory). EINLA and WHOQOL-BREF scores of BMI (underweight to obese), waist circumference, and neck circumference (normal vs at risk) groups were not different. It was found positive significant relationships between the second section of EINLA (reading comprehension and interpretation) and psychological health, the third section of EINLA (food groups), and social relationships (p<0.05). Conclusion: Nutrition literacy, anthropometric measurements, and quality of life of university students are affected by a multifactorial situation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of nursing students' personality traits and leadership orientations on their career adaptability. Design/methodology/approach: A total of 322 nursing students were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. The methods used to collect data included the semi-structured data collection form, five factors personality scale, leadership orientation scale and career adaptation-abilities scale. Findings: The regression model created to determine the effects of personality traits and leadership orientations on the students' career adaptability proved to be highly insightful. The students' leadership orientations have a statistically significant effect on their career adaptability score, with an explanatory coefficient of 43.1% and personality traits accounted for 18% of the career adaptability. Originality/value: The results of this study indicated that leadership orientations and personality traits of the students exerted effects on the career adaptability of nursing students. Developing the leadership orientations of nursing students and being aware of their personality traits will contribute positively to the development of their career adaptability and strengthen the health system.
