Metaheuristic is one of the techniques to improve the security of image encryption. However, existing metaheuristic image cryptosystems based on metaheuristic may have convergence difficulties during the optimization process, which cause insecurity and slow convergence. Besides, the time cost of the parallel execution model applied to metaheuristic image cryptosystems is not low enough. Therefore, a parallel many‐objective optimized key generation framework is proposed. Firstly, if four or more security indicators of cryptosystem, which are the results of security test, need to be optimized, the many‐objective optimization algorithm is employed to the proposed framework. With method adjusts the chaotic system parameters as the optimization key, which effectively avoid the convergence difficulty of the encryption key. Secondly, a master‐slave parallel model is improved to metaheuristic encryption. The model allocates the most time‐consuming fitness calculation work to slave nodes, which makes the modified model more reasonable and thus reduces the encryption time. To evaluate the performance of the proposed framework, a specific encryption scheme is constructed, that utilizes a 2D quadric map and many‐objective optimization algorithm based on dominance and decomposition (MOEA/DD) to optimize five security indicators. Snake optimizer (SO) is an optimization algorithm drawn from the reproductive habits of serpents. It exhibits outstanding effectiveness in solving continuous optimization problems. However, SO may face some performance challenges related to its population diversity and early convergence behavior. In this paper, we address the challenges of SO by introducing the Hybrid snake optimizer algorithm (HSOA). HSOA is a novel approach to optimization that incorporates two new optimization techniques into the SO algorithm. First, it incorporates a new opposition-based learning technique called Oppositional-mutual learning into the initialization stage of the SO algorithm. Second, it integrates dynamic polynomial mutation, which is an intelligent mutation method, into the initialization and optimization stages of the SO algorithm. These integrated approaches aim to increase the population's diversity of SO, while improving its searchability during its optimization stage. In power systems, the economic load dispatch (ELD) is an intricate optimization problem that becomes more challenging when the restrictions of the valve point effect (VPE) are incorporated into it. ELD with VPE is non-convex, lacking smoothness, and exhibiting nonlinearity that considers operational limitations expressed as both equality and inequality constraints to generate electricity. The suggested HSOA algorithm underwent evaluation and was compared with 47 renowned optimization algorithms across five real-world ELD problems with different specifications: generators with different unit capacities, transmission losses, prohibited operation zones, and Ramp Rate restrictions. The experimental results demonstrate that HSOA produces competitive solutions for the five real-world ELD problems. In detail, HSOA achieves the top rank in three cases of ELD problems with a 3-unit generator, and it secures the second and third positions in high-dimensional ELD problems with 40-unit and 80-unit generators, respectively. The statistical tests confirm the reliability and efficiency of HSOA. In addition, the effectiveness of HSOA was evaluated using the single-objective IEEE-CEC 2014 functions and compared to the results of eight popular metaheuristic algorithms. This work presents a unique technique for optimising composite laminates used as structural components, which is critical for situations where failure might result in disastrous effects. Unlike traditional surrogate‐based optimisation approaches, this methodology combines the accurate modelling capabilities of finite element (FE) analysis with the iterative refining capacity of metaheuristic algorithms. By combining these two methodologies, our method intends to improve the design process of laminated shell structures, assuring robustness and dependability is crucial. Compared to existing benchmark solutions, the current FE shows a <1% error for cylindrical and spherical shells. The prime objective of this study is to identify the optimum ply angles for attaining a high fundamental frequency. The problem is NP‐hard because the possible ply angles span a wide range (±90°), making it difficult for optimisation algorithms to find a solution. Seven popular metaheuristic algorithms, namely the genetic algorithm (GA), the ant lion optimisation (ALO), the arithmetic optimisation algorithm (AOA), the dragonfly algorithm (DA), the grey wolf optimisation (GWO), the salp swarm optimisation (SSO), and the whale optimisation algorithm (WOA), are applied to and compared on a wide range of shell design problems. It assesses parameter sensitivity, discovering significant design elements that influence dynamic behaviour. Convergence studies demonstrate the superior performance of AOA, GWO, and WOA optimisers. Rigorous statistical comparisons assist practitioners in picking the best optimisation technique. FE‐GWO, FE‐DA, and FE‐SSA methods surpass the other techniques as well as the layerwise optimisation strategy. Economic dispatch (ED) problem is a popular optimization problem in electrical engineering. Many studies that handled ED problem employed metaheuristics as the optimization technique. Unfortunately, these metaheuristics are old or the existing ones. Meanwhile, ED problem is not the favourite constrained case in studies that introduced a novel metaheuristic. This research introduces a novel metaheuristic called quadratic time optimization (QTO). QTO comprises three sequential searches where both diversification and intensification are blended in every search. But the portion of both orientations changes by following the quadratic time. The appraisal of QTO is performed by employing it to solve both unconstrained and constrained problems. The 23 traditional functions represent the unconstrained problem while economic load dispatch (ELD) problem with valve point effect and spinning reserve problem represents the constrained problem. In both appraisals, there are five novel metaheuristics represent the benchmarks, including: walrus optimization algorithm (WaOA), coati optimization algorithm (COA), total interaction algorithm (TIA), addax optimization algorithm (AOA), and language education optimization (LEO). The result shows the competitiveness of the proposed QTO in handling both unconstrained and constrained problems. QTO becomes the first best in 8 functions out of 23 functions including five high dimension unimodal functions, two high dimension multimodal functions, and one fixed dimension multimodal functions. The result also shows that QTO is competitive in three use cases in ELD problems as the ratio between the range and average total cost among metaheuristics for the first, second, and third cases is 0.72, 0.04, and 0.02 percent consecutively. Supply Chain Management (SCM) applications represent real-world optimization tasks that require handling using appropriate optimization techniques. Metaheuristic algorithms are powerful optimization tools that are effective for solving complex optimization problems such as SCM. In this article, a new metaheuristic algorithm named Potter Optimization Algorithm (POA) is introduced to deal with optimization problems, especially in SCM applications. POA is mathematically modelled by the inspiration of the human process of pottery in two phases of exploration and exploitation. The exploration phase is designed based on mathematical modeling of making extensive changes to the clay (or other pottery materials) according to the given pattern. The exploitation phase is designed based on mathematical modelling of making precise and limited changes on the made pottery with the aim of creating more similarity to the given pattern. The effectiveness of the proposed POA approach to address real-world applications in SCM has been evaluated on sustainable lot size optimization. The optimization results show that POA has been able to provide effective solutions for sustainable lot size optimization case studies by managing exploration, exploitation, and balancing them during the search process at both global and local levels. In addition, the results obtained from the implementation of POA have been compared with the performance of twelve well-known metaheuristic algorithms. Summary Node localization in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) ensures that the collected data is contextually accurate, enabling effective monitoring and management of various applications. Recently, there has been a surge in research focused on addressing node localization within WSNs. Emerging trends in this field involve the application of metaheuristic optimization techniques to refine node location determination accuracy. However, existing techniques often struggle with balancing accuracy, energy consumption, network lifetime, and computational efficiency, particularly in challenging WSN environments. Therefore, this research introduces a novel approach called efficient hybrid bat sand cat swarm optimization (EHBSCSO) to address node localization within WSNs. The hybrid method leverages the exploration capabilities of the bat optimization algorithm and the exploitation strengths of the sand cat swarm optimization algorithm. This combination allows for efficient determination of node positions, significantly improving localization accuracy while minimizing energy consumption. The EHBSCSO utilizes the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) and time of flight (ToF) approaches to assess distances among nodes accurately. Accurate node localization directly improves data quality by ensuring spatially precise data collection, reducing communication overhead, and enhancing the overall reliability of the collected data. Compared to conventional methods, the proposed EHBSCSO algorithm demonstrates superior performance, with a mean localization error of 0.18%, energy consumption of 7.2 J, computational time of 8.9 s, and localization time of 0.19 s. The optimal reactive power dispatch (ORPD) problem is a critical factor in maintaining the safe and efficient operation of electric networks. Due to its mixed-variable nonlinear nature, addressing this problem requires an appropriate optimization algorithm. In this study, a novel approach based on the combination of artificial rabbits optimization (ARO) and gradient-based optimization (GBO) algorithms was proposed to solve the ORPD problem in electric networks. The performance of the proposed AROGBO algorithm were verified on 7 numerical optimization test functions. To evaluate the effectiveness of this hybrid AROGBO technique, standard IEEE-30, IEEE-57 bus, and IEEE-118 bus test systems were employed, with two objective functions tested for each system: minimum total power loss and minimum total voltage deviations. The AROGBO, ARO, and GBO algorithms were utilized in each case to determine the optimal values of the generator voltage, transformer tap changer positions, and reactive power compensation values. A comprehensive comparison was made between the results obtained from the hybrid AROGBO algorithm, standard ARO and GBO algorithms, and other metaheuristic optimization techniques. The moth search algorithm (MSA) is a meta-heuristic optimization technique inspired by moth behavior, has shown remarkable efficacy in solving optimization challenges. However, its poor exploration capability results in an imbalance between exploitation and exploration. To address this issue, this research introduces a new mutation operator to enhance exploration by increasing population diversity. The proposed enhanced moth search algorithm (EMSA) aims to expedite convergence and improve overall robustness by exploring new solutions more effectively. Evaluation on ten benchmark functions demonstrates EMSA's superior exploration capabilities, efficiently tackling optimization problems and yielding more optimal solutions within the search space. Compared to conventional MSA and other established algorithms, EMSA delivers well-balanced results, showcasing its effectiveness in optimizing the search space. Global optimization techniques are increasingly preferred over human-driven methods in the design of electromagnetic structures such as metasurfaces, and careful construction and parameterization of the physical structure is critical in ensuring computational efficiency and convergence of the optimization algorithm to a globally optimal solution. While many design variables in physical systems take discrete values, optimization algorithms often benefit from a continuous design space. This work demonstrates the use of level set functions as a continuous basis for designing material distributions for metasurface arrays and introduces an improved parameterization which is termed the periodic level set function. We explore the use of alternate norms in the definition of the level set function and define a new pseudo-inverse technique for upsampling basis coefficients with these norms. The level set method is compared to the fragmented parameterization and shows improved electromagnetic responses for two dissimilar cost functions: a narrowband objective and a broadband objective. In the recent years, there are a lot of swarm-based stochastic optimization techniques i.e., metaheuristics were introduced. Most of these techniques were tested to solve the sets of theoretical functions. Some of them were enriched with practical tests where the common use cases are the mechanical engineering designs. On the other hand, the similar studies that utilized the optimization in power system are difficult to find. Moreover, the environmental issues become major considerations in engineering field. Based on this evidence, this paper constructs a new swarmbased optimization technique called stay-jump optimizer (SJO). The equal size swarm split is applied in the beginning of the process. Then, two directed searches toward the highest quality sub-swam members and two randomly selected higher quality sub swarm members are employed. The performance investigation is performed by employing SJO to find the optimal solution of 23 classic functions and the economic emission dispatch (EED) problem. The use-case for EED is the Java-Bali power grid system in Indonesia that consists of six steam power plants and two hydro-electric power plants. Five new optimization techniques including addax optimization algorithm (AOA), dollmaker optimization algorithm (DOA), giant armadillo optimization algorithm (GAO), zebra optimization algorithm (ZOA), and total interaction algorithm (TIA). The result shows that SJO is superior to its opponents as it is better than AOA, DOA, GAO, ZOA, and TIA in 17, 17, 16, 19, and 14 functions out of 23 functions respectively. This paper provides six metaheuristic algorithms, namely Fast Cuckoo Search (FCS), Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA), Dynamic control Cuckoo search (DCCS), Gradient-Based Optimizer (GBO), Northern Goshawk Optimization (NGO), Opposition Flow Direction Algorithm (OFDA) to efficiently solve the optimal power flow (OPF) issue. Under standard and conservative operating settings, the OPF problem is modeled utilizing a range of objectives, constraints, and formulations. Five case studies have been conducted using IEEE 30-bus and IEEE 118-bus standard test systems to evaluate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed algorithms. A performance evaluation procedure is suggested to compare the optimization techniques' strength and resilience. A fresh comparison methodology is created to compare the proposed methodologies with other well-known methodologies. Using Hybrid optimization algorithms for nonlinear systems analysis is a novel approach. It is a powerful technique that uses the exploitation ability of one algorithm and the exploration ability of another algorithm, to find the best solution. Literature survey reveals that hybrid algorithms not only show quality response but also give faster convergence of error for nonlinear systems. In this paper, hybrid optimization techniques based proportional integral derivative (PID) controller is used for benchmark problems: Continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR), Inverted pendulum and blood glucose system. Two recent hybrid algorithms: Particle swarm optimization‐Gravitational search algorithm (PSO‐GSA) and Particle swarm optimization‐Grey wolf algorithm (PSO‐GWO) are implemented to control the temperature and concentration of CSTR, pendulum angle of inverted pendulum, glucose concentration and insulin level of blood glucose system. In PID and PSOGWO algorithms, the exploration abilities of GSA and GWO combined with the exploitation ability of PSO have been used. The performance of these algorithms is then compared with individual PSO, GSA, and GWO algorithms proving their superiority. Stability is ensured using the Lyapunov approach while the robustness of the systems is checked using the parameter perturbation technique. Simulation results show substantial improvement in the performance of these systems by using these meta‐heuristic hybrid optimization techniques. The RIME optimization algorithm (RIME) represents an advanced optimization technique. However, it suffers from issues such as slow convergence speed and susceptibility to falling into local optima. In response to these shortcomings, we propose a multi-strategy enhanced version known as the multi-strategy improved RIME optimization algorithm (MIRIME). Firstly, the Tent chaotic map is utilized to initialize the population, laying the groundwork for global optimization. Secondly, we introduce an adaptive update strategy based on leadership and the dynamic centroid, facilitating the swarm's exploitation in a more favorable direction. To address the problem of population scarcity in later iterations, the lens imaging opposition-based learning control strategy is introduced to enhance population diversity and ensure convergence accuracy. The proposed centroid boundary control strategy not only limits the search boundaries of individuals but also effectively enhances the algorithm's search focus and efficiency. Finally, to demonstrate the performance of MIRIME, we employ CEC 2017 and CEC 2022 test suites to compare it with 11 popular algorithms across different dimensions, verifying its effectiveness. Additionally, to assess the method's practical feasibility, we apply MIRIME to solve the three-dimensional path planning problem for unmanned surface vehicles. Congestion management is one of the most important issues in power system operation, especially in competitive electricity markets. The main aim of Congestion Management (CM) is to eliminate congestion in transmission lines. The most common technique to deal with the CM problem is re-dispatching the generator. However, finding an optimal solution for the CM problem constitutes a challenge for many researchers. Recently, a new biologically inspired metaheuristic algorithm, called Circulatory System Based Optimization (CSBO), was developed and proven to be effective in handling optimization issues. The CSBO algorithm was applied to solve the CM problem for the IEEE-30 bus system in two different cases. The former was compared with the Crayfish Optimization Algorithm (COA), Artificial Rabbits Optimization (ARO), Improved Grey Wolf Optimizer (I-GWO), and other existing methods. The simulation results revealed that the cost obtained from the proposed CSBO algorithm was lower than 14.5%, 11.31%, 9.97%, and 4% compared to PSO, FPA, FFA, and ALO. Neurodegenerative conditions significantly impact patient quality of life. Many conditions do not have a cure, but with appropriate and timely treatment the advance of the disease could be diminished. However, many patients only seek a diagnosis once the condition progresses to a point at which the quality of life is significantly impacted. Effective non-invasive and readily accessible methods for early diagnosis can considerably enhance the quality of life of patients affected by neurodegenerative conditions. This work explores the potential of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for patient gain freezing associated with Parkinson's disease. Sensor data collected from wearable gyroscopes located at the sole of the patient's shoe record walking patterns. These patterns are further analyzed using convolutional networks to accurately detect abnormal walking patterns. The suggested method is assessed on a public real-world dataset collected from parents affected by Parkinson's as well as individuals from a control group. To improve the accuracy of the classification, an altered variant of the recent crayfish optimization algorithm is introduced and compared to contemporary optimization metaheuristics. Our findings reveal that the modified algorithm (MSCHO) significantly outperforms other methods in accuracy, demonstrated by low error rates and high Cohen's Kappa, precision, sensitivity, and F1-measures across three datasets. These results suggest the potential of CNNs, combined with advanced optimization techniques, for early, non-invasive diagnosis of neurodegenerative conditions, offering a path to improve patient quality of life. Several optimization-based population search methods have been proposed; they use various operators that permit exploring the search space. These methods typically suffer from local search (LS) problems and are unbalanced between exploration and exploitation. Consequently, recent researchers sought to modify the algorithms to avoid search problems using local search techniques to intensify the exploitation when is necessary. This paper proposes a novel single-based local search optimization algorithm called the non-monopolize search (NO). The NO is a single-solution metaphor-free algorithm, and its operators are designed based to explore and exploit along the iterative process. The NO works only with a candidate solution, and the operators modify the dimension to move the current solution along the search space. The NO is an effective LS method that combines the benefits of exploration with exploitation. Different from other LS, the NO can escape from suboptimal solutions thanks to the randomness incorporated into its operators. This is the main advantage of the NO. Experiments are conducted on standard benchmark functions to validate the performance of the proposed non-monopolize search optimization technique. The results are compared with other well-known methods, and the proposed NO got better results. Moreover, the proposed NO can be considered a powerful alternative to improve the optimization algorithms' performance and help avoid local search problems. Multiple unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) path planning is the benchmark problem of multiple UAV application, which belongs to the non-deterministic polynomial problem. Its objective is to require multiple UAV to fly safely to the goal position according to their specific start position in three-dimensional space. This issue can be defined as a high-dimensional optimization problem, the solution of which requires optimization techniques with global optimization capabilities. Equilibrium optimizer (EO) is a population-based meta-heuristic algorithm. To improve the optimization ability of EO to solve high-dimensional problems, this paper proposes a modified equilibrium optimizer with generalized opposition-based learning (MGOEO), which improves the population activity by increasing the internal mutation and cross of the population. In addition, the generalized opposition-based learning is used to construct the population, which can effectively ensure that the algorithm has ability to jump out of the limitation of local optimal. First, numerical experiments show that MGOEO has better optimization precision than EO and several other swarm intelligent algorithms. Then, the paths of UAVs are simulated in three different obstacle environments. While many metaheuristic optimization algorithms strive to address optimization challenges, they often grapple with the delicate balance between exploration and exploitation, leading to issues such as premature convergence, sensitivity to parameter settings, and difficulty in maintaining population diversity. In response to these challenges, this study introduces the Chase, Pounce, and Escape (CPE) algorithm, drawing inspiration from predator-prey dynamics. Unlike traditional optimization approaches, the CPE algorithm divides the population into two groups, each independently exploring the search space to efficiently navigate complex problem domains and avoid local optima. By incorporating a unique search mechanism that integrates both the average of the best solution and the current solution, the CPE algorithm demonstrates superior convergence properties. Additionally, the inclusion of a pouncing process facilitates rapid movement towards optimal solutions. Through comprehensive evaluations across various optimization scenarios, including standard test functions, Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC)-2017 benchmarks, and real-world engineering challenges, the effectiveness of the CPE algorithm is demonstrated. The parameters of a Photovoltaic (PV) model are pivotal in gauging its efficiency under varying sunlight irradiances, temperatures, and different load scenarios. Determining these PV model parameters poses a complex non-linear optimization challenge. This study is based on a new metaheuristic optimization algorithm called the Pelican Optimization Algorithm (POA) to discern the unknown parameters of the PV model. The suggested POA algorithm underwent testing using a monocrystalline panel, encompassing its single-diode configuration. The objective function is designed to minimize the root of the mean squared errors between the predicted and actual current values, adhering to specific parameter constraints. Sewer systems are a component of city infrastructure that requires large investment in construction and operation. Metaheuristic optimization methods have been used to solve sewer optimization problems. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of network size on metaheuristic optimization algorithms. Cuckoo Search (CS) and four versions of Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) were utilized for the hydraulic optimization of sewer networks. The purpose of using different algorithms is to investigate whether the results obtained differ depending on the algorithm. In addition, to eliminate the parameter effect, the relevant algorithms were run with different parameters, such as population size. These algorithms were performed on three different-sized networks, namely small-sized, medium-sized, and large-sized networks. Friedman and Wilcoxon tests were utilized to statistically analyze the results. The results were also evaluated in terms of the optimality gap criterion. Teaching–learning-based optimization (TLBO) algorithm is an excellent human-inspired optimization technique. This paper proposes an innovative improved version of TLBO—collectivism teaching–learning-based optimization (CTLBO) algorithm. This algorithm imitates group and individual behaviours in the reality of teaching and learning, applies group-individual multi-mode cooperation strategies to form new search mechanism. The CTLBO contains three phases, i.e. preparation phase, teaching and learning phases. In the preparation phase, there are two operators, i.e. teacher self-learning and teacher-learner interaction operators. In the teaching phase, class teaching and performance-based group teaching operators are implied. In the learning phase, neighbour learning, student self-learning and team-learning strategies are mixed together to form three operators. Two sets of experiments are conducted to test the performance of CTLBO. The first set of experiments validates the improvement effect of CTLBO by comparing it with the original TLBO and other authors' improved versions of TLBO. The second set of experiments illustrates the advantage of CTLBO by comparing it with other 17 meta-heuristic algorithms in solving 30 general benchmark functions and 15 CEC2015 test suit functions. The results of experiments show that CTLBO algorithm has significant improvement effect compared with TLBO. Recently, there has been a growing interest in employing optimization techniques to ascertain the most efficient operation of reservoirs. This involves their application to various facets of the reservoir operating system, particularly in determining optimal rule curves. This study delves into the exploration of different algorithms, including Artificial Bee Colony (ABC), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Genetic Algorithm (GA), Firefly Algorithm (FA), Invasive Weed Optimization (IWO), Teaching Learning-Based Optimization (TLBO), and Harmony Search (HS). Each algorithm was integrated into a reservoir simulation model, focusing on finding optimal rule curves for the Mujib reservoir in Jordan from 2004 to 2019. The primary objective was to evaluate the long-term impact of water shortages and excess releases on the Mujib reservoir. Furthermore, the study aimed to determine the effects of water demand management by reducing it by 10%, 20%, and 30%. The results revealed that the used algorithms effectively mitigated water shortages and excess releases compared to the current operational strategy. Notably, the Teaching Learning-Based Optimization (TLBO) algorithm yielded the most favorable outcomes, reducing the frequency and average of water shortages to 55.09% and 56.26%, respectively. The parameter identification problem of photovoltaic (PV) models is classified as a complex nonlinear optimization problem that cannot be accurately solved by traditional techniques. Therefore, metaheuristic algorithms have been recently used to solve this problem due to their potential to approximate the optimal solution for several complicated optimization problems. Despite that, the existing metaheuristic algorithms still suffer from sluggish convergence rates and stagnation in local optima when applied to tackle this problem. Therefore, this study presents a new parameter estimation technique, namely HKOA, based on integrating the recently published Kepler optimization algorithm (KOA) with the ranking-based update and exploitation improvement mechanisms to accurately estimate the unknown parameters of the third-, single-, and double-diode models. The former mechanism aims at promoting the KOA's exploration operator to diminish getting stuck in local optima, while the latter mechanism is used to strengthen its exploitation operator to faster converge to the approximate solution. Both KOA and HKOA are validated using the RTC France solar cell and five PV modules, including Photowatt-PWP201, Ultra 85-P, Ultra 85-P, STP6-120/36, and STM6-40/36, to show their efficiency and stability. In addition, they are extensively compared to several optimization techniques to show their effectiveness. According to the experimental findings, HKOA is a strong alternative method for estimating the unknown parameters of PV models because it can yield substantially different and superior findings for the third-, single-, and double-diode models. The biogeography-based optimization (BBO) algorithm is known for its simplicity and low computational overhead, but it often struggles with falling into local optima and slow convergence speed. Against this background, this work presents a multi-strategy enhanced BBO variant, named MSBBO. Firstly, the example chasing strategy is proposed to eliminate the destruction of the inferior solutions to superior solutions. Secondly, the heuristic crossover strategy is designed to enhance the search ability of the population. Finally, the prey search–attack strategy is used to balance the exploration and exploitation. To verify the performance of MSBBO, we compare it with standard BBO, seven BBO variants (PRBBO, BBOSB, HGBBO, FABBO, BLEHO, MPBBO and BBOIMAM) and seven meta-heuristic algorithms (GWO, WOA, SSA, ChOA, MPA, GJO and BWO) on multiple dimensions of 24 benchmark functions. It concludes that MSBBO significantly outperforms all competitors both on convergence accuracy, speed and stability, and MSBBO basically converges to the same results on 10,000 dimensions as on 1000 dimensions. Further, MSBBO is applied to six real-world engineering design problems. The experimental results show that our work is still more competitive than other latest optimization techniques (COA, EDO, OMA, SHO and SCSO) on constrained optimization problems. This paper presents an improved arithmetic optimization algorithm that incorporates hybrid elite pool strategies to address the limitations of the arithmetic optimization algorithm (AOA). In AOA, the linear mathematical optimization acceleration (MOA) function cannot balance global exploitation and local exploration well. Therefore, the accuracy and convergence speed of the algorithm cannot be guaranteed. To improve the performance of AOA, this paper reconstructed a nonlinear MOA function, which is expected to balance the exploitation and the exploration of AOA. Furthermore, four hybrid elite pool strategies are integrated to enhance the ability to escape local optima. The proposed algorithm inherits the fast convergence of AOA and develops the performance of escaping local optima. Numerical experiment results on benchmark functions and engineering problems show that the proposed algorithm outperforms other compared meta-heuristic algorithms in terms of convergence speed and accuracy. The utilization of recycled aggregates (RA) for concrete production has the potential to offer substantial environmental and economic advantages. However, RA concrete is plagued with considerable durability concerns, particularly carbonation. To advance the application of RA concrete, the establishment of a reliable model for predicting the carbonation is needed. On the one hand, concrete carbonation is a long and slow process and thus consumes a lot of time and energy to monitor. On the other hand, carbonation is influenced by many factors and is hard to predict. Regarding this, this paper proposes the use of machine learning techniques to establish accurate prediction models for the carbonation depth (CD) of RA concrete. Three types of regression techniques and meta-heuristic algorithms were employed to provide more alternative predictive tools. It was found that the best prediction performance was obtained from extreme gradient boosting-multi-universe optimizer (XGB-MVO) with R2 value of 0.9949 and 0.9398 for training and testing sets, respectively. XGB-MVO was used for evaluating physical laws of carbonation and it was found that the developed XGB-MVO model could provide reasonable predictions when new data were investigated. It also showed better generalization capabilities when compared with different models in the literature. Reactive transport within porous reactors is crucial to many diverse applications, and the efficacy of these reactors hinges on their microstructure. Mathematical modeling and optimization play a pivotal role in the exploration of efficient designs, enabling the generation of structures that may not be achievable through random realizations of packings. In this study, we propose a framework for high-resolution topological optimization of porous flow-through reactors based on pore-scale simulations using a non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II. A pore network model for an advection–diffusion-reaction system is developed to simulate reactor performance. This model is integrated with a mathematical optimization algorithm, incorporating a background grid and Delaunay tessellation. The optimization framework generates enhanced porous structures, simultaneously maximizing conversion rates while minimizing pumping costs. Striking a balance between permeability and reactive surface area, the final designs yield a set of Pareto optimal solutions, encompassing diverse non-dominated designs with varying reaction rates and hydraulic requirements. The results demonstrate that optimal pore configurations lead to a 280% increase in conversion rates and a 6% reduction in pumping costs at one end, while on the opposite end of the Pareto front, a 15.2% increase in reaction rates and an 11.3% reduction in pumping costs are observed. Chaos Game Optimization Algorithm (CGO) is a novel advancement in metaheuristic optimization inspired by chaos theory. It addresses complex optimization problems in dynamical systems, exhibiting unique behaviours such as fractals and self-organized patterns. CGO's design exemplifies adaptability and robustness, making it a significant tool for tackling intricate optimization scenarios. This study presents a comprehensive and updated overview of CGO, exploring the various variants and adaptations that have been published in numerous research studies since its introduction in 2020, with 4% in book chapters, 7% in international conference proceedings, and 89% in prestigious international journals. CGO variants covered in this paper include 4% binary, 22% for multi-objective and modification and 52% for hybridization variants. Moreover, the applications of CGO, demonstrate its efficacy and flexibility across different domains with 32% in energy, 28% in engineering, 11% in IoT and machine learning, 6% in truss structures, 4% in big data, 2% in medical imaging, in security, in electronic, and in microarray technology. Furthermore, we discuss the future directions of CGO, hypothesizing its potential advancements and broader implications in optimization theory and practice. This research endeavor strives to conceptualize a hybrid microgrid tailored for household consumption in Guelmim City, situated in the southern region of Morocco. In pursuit of this objective, a groundbreaking and enhanced algorithm, denoted as the Leader Artificial Rabbits Optimization Algorithm, is introduced. The efficacy of this innovative algorithm is initially validated by means of an exhaustive performance assessment involving a comprehensive comparison with the original version of the algorithm as well as other contemporary optimization methodologies. This comparative analysis encompasses the evaluation of the algorithms across 23 benchmark functions. The outcomes clearly exhibit that the developed algorithm outperforms both the original iteration and other optimization techniques in terms of both convergence speed and solution quality. Subsequent to this validation, the proposed algorithm is applied to the specific project at hand. The resulting outcomes are juxtaposed with those derived from other optimization strategies. This comparative evaluation serves to underscore the effectiveness of the suggested approach. The outcome of this comparison highlights a net present cost of $106,821, based on the microgrid configuration employing PV/wind/diesel/battery. In this paper, the estimation of solar cell parameters in the Bishop model was developed. The parameter estimation was formulated as an optimization problem. Several techniques were selected and compared, such as, Ant Lion Optimizer (ALO), Arithmetic Optimization Algorithm (AOA), Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm (GOA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Sine Cosine Algorithm (SCA), Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA), and Vortex Search Algorithm (VSA). All these techniques were selected because of their solutions' quality when applied to estimating parameters in photovoltaic models. The Bishop model was selected since it can represent the behavior of a photovoltaic cell in direct and reverse modes of operation (when producing and consuming power, respectively). For the validation stage, two technologies were selected (monocrystalline and polycrystalline). All the techniques were executed 100 times and compared based on their estimated objective function and computation time (mean value and standard deviation).
