Most of the existing municipal waste management (MWM) systems focus on the optimization of the waste disposal center locations and waste collection paths, which can be modeled based on the location-routing problem (LRP). This study models a green MWM system by a three-objective location-routing problem to achieve equilibrium among the total cost, carbon emission, and residential satisfaction. The amount of waste demand for each customer is considered as an independent discrete random variable following a normal distribution. The multi-objectives and non-deterministic characteristics make this problem more intractable than the traditional LRP. A multi-objective optimization algorithm based on decision tree classifier is proposed for solving this problem. The decision tree classifier learns from previous searching experience, and then guides the following evolution process to avoid blind searching. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has high competitiveness compared with other state-of-art methods. A case study is also conducted for a real waste collection problem in a certain area of Beijing. • Qualitative and quantitative detection of amine gases could be achieved by CSA. • A visible detection of beef freshness using the amine-responsive CSA was proposed. • ResNet34 had the best performance for beef freshness detection based on CSA. • T-SNE could further visualize and understand the classification process of DL. This study developed an innovative approach that combines a colourimetric sensor array (CSA) composed of twelve pH-response dyes with advanced algorithms, aiming to detect amine gases and assess the freshness of chilled beef. With the assistance of multivariate statistical analysis, the sensor array can effectively distinguish five amine gases and enable rapid quantification of trimethylamine vapour with a limit of detection (LOD) of 8.02 ppb and visually monitor the fresh levels of chilled beef. Moreover, the utilization of deep learning models (ResNet34, VGG16, and GoogleNet) for chilled beef freshness evaluation achieved an overall accuracy of 98.0 %. Furthermore, t -distributed stochastic neighbour embedding (t -SNE) visualized the feature extraction process and provided explanations to understand the classification process of deep learning. Developing a reliable and robust finite element model of a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) composite structure is investigated by using the LS-DYNA solver and Python. This study tries to provide a systematic numerical approach to cover the principal impediment to adaptation of composite energy absorbers, that is the lack of a reliable predictive method. The proposed procedure aims to further the understanding of advanced composite structures' behavior during the crash phenomenon by developing an accurate finite element model. To do so, the mechanical properties of the material were extracted from American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standard test methods, followed by experimental investigation of circular CFRP tubes undergoing quasi-static loading. A numerical simulation framework was then utilized to scrutinize the effectiveness of simulation parameters on the crushing mechanism. Finally, a systematic approach based on machine learning techniques was performed to adjust non-physical modeling parameters for further calibration and validation. In this regard, a versatile Python code was developed to automate pre-processing, processing, and post-processing steps. The code also provides a groundwork to perform machine learning techniques. Interestingly, the numerical and experimental results were highly correlated with a correlation coefficient of almost 90%. Additionally, several non-physical numerical parameters were found to be inactive, while some else were identified as effective parameters, and their corresponding effectiveness was quantitatively extracted and discussed for the first time in the literature. For market players and policy officials, commodity price forecasts are crucial problems that are challenging to address due to the complexity of price time series. Given its strategic importance, corn crops are hardly an exception. The current paper evaluates the forecasting issue for China's weekly wholesale price index for yellow corn from January 1, 2010 to January 10, 2020. We develop a Gaussian process regression model using cross validation and Bayesian optimizations over various kernels and basis functions that could effectively handle this sophisticated commodity price forecast problem. The model provides precise out-of-sample forecasts from January 4, 2019 to January 10, 2020, with a relative root mean square error, root mean square error, and mean absolute error of 1.245%, 1.605, and 0.936, respectively. Addressing the reproducibility crisis in artificial intelligence through the validation of reported experimental results is a challenging task. It necessitates either the reimplementation of techniques or a meticulous assessment of papers for deviations from the scientific method and best statistical practices. To facilitate the validation of reported results, we have developed numerical techniques capable of identifying inconsistencies between reported performance scores and various experimental setups in machine learning problems, including binary/multiclass classification and regression. These consistency tests are integrated into the open-source package mlscorecheck , which also provides specific test bundles designed to detect systematically recurring flaws in various fields, such as retina image processing and synthetic minority oversampling. The rapid discrimination of bacteria is currently an emerging trend in the fields of food safety, medical detection, and environmental observation. Traditional methods often require lengthy culturing processes, specialized analytical equipment, and bacterial recognition receptors. In response to this need, we have developed a paper-based fluorescence sensor array platform for identifying different bacteria. The sensor array is based on three unique carbon quantum dots (CQDs) as sensing units, each modified with a different antibiotic (polymyxin B, ampicillin, and gentamicin). These antibiotic-modified CQDs can aggregate on the bacterial surface, triggering aggregation-induced fluorescence quenching. The sensor array exhibits varying fluorescent responses to different bacterial species. To achieve low-cost and portable detection, CQDs were formulated into fluorescent ink and used with an inkjet printer to manufacture paper-based sensor arrays. A smartphone was used to collect the responses generated by the bacteria and platform. Diverse machine learning algorithms were utilized to discriminate bacterial types. Our findings showcase the platform's remarkable capability to differentiate among five bacterial strains, within a detection range spanning from 1.0 × 103 CFU/mL to 1.0 × 107 CFU/mL. Its practicality is further validated through the accurate identification of blind bacterial samples. With its cost-effectiveness, ease of fabrication, and high degree of integration, this platform holds significant promise for on-site detection of diverse bacteria. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
