This paper presents the zonal geochemistry and elasticity characteristics of gallium- and lithium-rich No. 6 coalbed in the Haerwusu mine and discusses interpretation methodologies of coal-hosted gallium and lithium resources using lab-measured samples and field-measured wireline logs. The results demonstrate that both coal-composition-based and elastic-parameter-based classifications yield similar results, categorizing the coalbed into subzones related to coal quality. Material compositions, elastic properties, critical metals, and host minerals exhibit zonal distribution characteristics within the ultrathick No. 6 coalbed. Three-class classifications significantly enhance correlations among host minerals, elastic parameters, and critical metals, albeit with differing trends among classes. In classes II and III (ultralow- and low-ash-yield coals), boehmite and kaolinite primarily host gallium and lithium, respectively. In class I (medium-ash-yield coal), gallium is associated with kaolinite, while lithium lacks specific mineral associations. Constrained by wireline logs, a rock physics modeling strategy is proposed to link mesoscale coal compositions to macroscale elastic responses. Moreover, explicit correlations between host minerals and critical metals are established, connecting macroscale elastic responses to microscale gallium and lithium enrichments and exploring interpretation methods of coal-hosted critical metals. Preferred lithium interpretation methods include compositional ternary plots and elastic parameter cross plots, while preferred gallium interpretation methods involve boehmite-gallium and elastic parameter-gallium fitting. Accurately determining the timing and mechanism of metallogenesis of ore deposits is essential for developing a robust genetic model for their exploration. In this paper, we analyze the formation conditions of cassiterite in five major deposits of southern Hunan Province, one of the most important tungsten-tin (W-Sn) provinces in South China, using a combination of cathodoluminescence imaging, in situ U-Pb geochronology, and trace-element concentration data. In situ cassiterite U-Pb geochronology constrains the main period of Sn mineralization to between 155.4 and 142.0 Ma, demonstrating a temporal and genetic relationship to silicic intrusive magmatism in the same area. Three stages of magmatic activity and metallogenic evolution are recognized: (1) Early Paleozoic and Triassic: the initial enrichment stage of tungsten and tin; (2) Jurassic: the metasomatic mineralization stage; and (3) Cretaceous: the magmatic-hydrothermal superposition stage. The cassiterite in these deposits takes four forms, i.e., quartz vein-type, greisen-skarn-type, greisen-type, and granite-type, representing a progression characterized by the increasing content and decreasing range of variation of high field strength elements (HFSEs), and reflecting a general increase in the degree of evolution of the associated granites. Rare earth element (REE) concentrations suggest that precipitation of cassiterite was insensitive to the redox state of the fluid and that precipitation of cassiterite in the southern Hunan Sn deposits did not require a high-fO2 environment. Guizhou Province of China is rich in shale gas resources. In recent years, important progress has been made in the exploration and development of shale gas in the Upper Ordovician Wufeng Formation-Lower Silurian Longmaxi Formation in Zheng'an block in northern Guizhou, adjacent to Sichuan Basin. Due to the complex geological conditions and fragile ecological environment in the shale gas distribution area, serious environmental pollution risks may exist in shale gas exploitation. Therefore, this paper conducted element, hydrogen and oxygen isotope analyses for shale gas fracturing flowback/produced water of Well AY7-4 in Zheng'an block. The results showed that the contents of K, Na, Ca, Mg and NH+ 4 in the flowback/produced water of Well AY7-4 were very high, with an average of 118 mg/L, 7616 mg/L, 266 mg/L, 47 mg/L and 76 mg/L, respectively. The content of Na, Ca and Mg is similar to that of shale gas flowback/produced water in Weiyuan, but lower than that in Changning and Fuling. NH+ 4 content was similar to that in Changning, but much higher than that in Weiyuan. The average Cl content was 11605 mg/L, which was similar to that in Weiyuan, but lower than that in Changning and Fuling. The average Br content is 48 mg/L, slightly lower than that of Weiyuan, and about half of that of Changning and Fuling. Correspondingly, the Br/Cl value of Well AY7-4 is the lowest, reflecting its relatively low Br content. The average content of Li, B and Sr is 17 mg/L, 10 mg/L and 45 mg/L, respectively, which is similar to that of the Weiyuan, Changning and Fuling shale gas fields. The distribution model of Li and Sr is similar to that of Cl, Br and Na, but the B content and B/Cl value of Well AY7-4 are the lowest. The linear relationship between Br and Cl contents and between dD and d18O of flowback/produced water of Well AY7-4, freshwater used for hydraulic fracturing and hydraulic fracturing injected fluid indicates that flowback/produced water of Well AY7-4 is mainly the mixed product between low salinity injected fracturing fluid and high salinity brine retained in shale formation. The hydrogen and oxygen isotopic compositions gradually become heavier over time, indicating that the proportion of high salt end formation brine in flowback/produced water is increasing. The contents of Cl, Br, Na and NH+ 4 in the flowback/produced water of Well AY7-4 are far higher than the allowable discharge value, which is a potential environmental pollution risk and cannot be discharged directly. The scientific question of precisely determining the northern boundary of the Qinling Orogenic Belt (QOB) with regard to the southern segment of the North China Craton (S-NCC) has been controversial and unresolved, as it is heavily covered by loess and lacks some geological evidence. In order to identify the concrete northern boundary of the QOB, this paper first reports the metabasalt discovered in the Qianhe River Basin in Northwestern China, on the foundation of petrography, mineralogy, geochronology and geochemistry analyses. Detailed regional geological survey presents that the Qianhe metabasalt (QMB) is in unconformable contact with the Mesoproterozoic Gaoshanhe Group. Moreover, there is the new laser ablation (LA) inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) U-Pb dating for magmatic zircons that yielded a weighted mean age of 450 ± 9 Ma, revealing that the QMB occurred in the Late Ordovician rather than that in the Mesoproterozoic period as previously considered. Both major and trace elements show that the samples are characterized by the back-arc basin (BAB) basalt affinity. In addition, combined with the regional geology analysis, it stands to reason that the QMB is very similar to those of Ordovician Caotangou Group along the northern QOB (N-QOB). Accordingly, it is illuminated that the QMB belonging to the N-QOB, is more likely originated from the back-arc basin setting, and truly defines the QOB's northern boundary in this segment, which has prominent geoscientific significance for determining the tectonic boundary in the heavily loess-covered regions. Early Paleozoic magmatism in the West Kunlun Orogenic Belt (WKOB) preserves important information about the tectonic evolution of the Proto-Tethys Ocean. This paper reports whole-rock compositions, zircon and apatite U-Pb dating, and zircon Hf isotopes for the Qiaerlong Pluton (QEL) at the northwestern margin of WKOB, with the aim of elucidating the petrogenesis of the pluton and shedding insights into the subduction-collision process of this oceanic slab. The QEL is mainly composed of Ordovician quartz monzodiorite (479 ± 3 Ma), quartz monzonite (467–472 Ma), and syenogranite (463 ± 4 Ma), and is intruded by Middle Silurian peraluminous granite (429 ± 20 Ma) and diabase (421 ± 4 Ma). Zircon εHf(t) values reveal that quartz monzodiorites (+2.1 to +9.9) and quartz monzonites (+0.6 to +6.8) were derived from a mixed source of juvenile crust and older lower crust, and syenogranites (−5.6 to +4.5) and peraluminous granites (−2.9 to +2.0) were generated from a mixed source of lower crust and upper crust; diabases had zircon εHf(t) values ranging from −0.3 to +4.1, and contained 463 ± 5 Ma captured zircon and 1 048 ± 39 Ma inherited zircon, indicating they originated from enriched lithospheric mantle and were contaminated by crustal materials. The Ordovician granitoids are enriched in LILEs and light rare-earth elements, and depleted in HFSEs with negative Nb, Ta, P, and Ti anomalies, suggesting that they formed in a subduction environment. Middle Silurian peraluminous granites have the characteristics of leucogranites with high SiO2 contents (74.92 wt.%–75.88 wt.%) and distinctly negative Eu anomalies (δEu = 0.03–0.14), indicating that they belong to highly fractionated granite and were formed in a post-collision extension setting. Comparative analysis of these results with other Early Paleozoic magmas reveals that the Proto-Tethys ocean closed before the Middle Silurian and its southward subduction resulted in the formation of QEL. Paleoproterozoic A-type granites are widely distributed in the southern margin of the North China Craton (SNCC), providing important information for understanding the Paleoproterozoic tectonic regimes in this area. This paper reports newly obtained whole-rock compositions and zircon U-Pb ages for the Tieluping syenogranite porphyry (TLP) and Huoshenmiao alkali granite porphyry (HSM) in the SNCC. Zircons from the TLP and HSM have U-Pb ages of 1 805 ± 12 and 1 792 ± 14 Ma, respectively. These ages are taken to date the emplacement of these intrusions. They had high total alkali contents (K2O + Na2O > 7.13 wt.%), with high 10 000 × Ga/Al ratios (3.06–3.41) and Zr + Y + Nb + Ce values (709 ppm–910 ppm) as well as high zircon saturation temperatures (864–970 °C), indicative of A-type granite affinities. High Y/Nb (1.75–3.32), Ce/Nb (7.72–9.72), and Yb/Ta (2.89–5.60) ratios suggested that TLP and HSM belonged to the A2-type granite. The negative whole rock εNd(t) values (−8.4 to −6.6) and negative zircon εHf(t) values (−15.9 to −6.3) confirmed that TLP and HSM were likely generated by the partial melting of an ancient continental crust. The εHf(t) (−7.4 to +4.0) values of inherited zircons in the TLP suggested that they were derived from the partial melting of Archean basement rocks. Considering the geochemical similarity of the 1.80 Ga A-type granitoids in the SNCC, we propose that the TLP and HSM were formed in a post-collisional regime that was likely associated with the break-off of the Paleoproterozoic subducted slab. This paper presents the results of mineralogical, geochemical, isotope, and geochemical (Sm–Nd) studies of siltstones from the upper Bystraya subformation of the Argun continental massif, as well as U–Pb dating of detrital zircon grains from them. The main goal of the research was to identify the main sources of clastic material, to reconstruct the paleogeodynamic environment of accumulation, and to constrain the lower age limit for the formation of terrigenous rocks of the upper Bystraya subformation. The mineralogical composition of the studied rocks indicates their accumulation in an environment associated with subduction processes. The trace element composition of siltstones from the subformation suggests the presence of rocks of mixed composition in the source area in terms of their silica content. Based on Sm–Nd isotope and geochemical data, it was established that the main sources of clastic material for siltstones of the stratigraphic unit were Paleoproterozoic rocks and (or) younger rocks whose formation is associated with the reworking of the Paleoproterozoic continental crust. Most of the zircons from the studied siltstone sample of the upper Bystraya subformation are Neo- and Paleoproterozoic in age. Their sources are probably Neo- and Paleoproterozoic igneous rocks widespread within the Argun massif in China. The ages of the youngest zircons (556 ± 9 and 566 ± 10 Ma) isolated from siltstones of the upper Bystraya subformation were used to constrain the lower limit of their accumulation at the middle Ediacaran. Post‐collisional magmatism contains important clues for understanding the reworking and growth of continental crust, as well as lithospheric delamination and orogenic collapse. Early Devonian magmatism has been identified in the North Qilian Orogenic Belt (NQOB). This paper reports an integrated study of petrology, whole‐rock geochemistry, Sm‐Nd isotope and zircon U‐Pb dating, as well as Lu‐Hf isotopic data, for two Early Devonian intrusive plutons. The Yongchang and Chijin granites yield zircon U‐Pb ages of 394–407 Ma and 414 Ma, respectively. Both of them are characterized by weakly peraluminous to metaluminous without typical aluminium‐rich minerals, LREE‐enriched patterns with negative Eu anomalies and a negative correlation between P2O5 and SiO2 contents, consistent with geochemical features of I‐type granitoids. Zircons from the studied granites display negative to weak positive εHf(t) values (–5.7 to 2.1), which agree well with those of negative εNd(t) values (−6.4 to −2.9) for the whole‐rock samples, indicating that they were derived from the partial melting of Mesoproterozoic crust. Furthermore, low Sr/Y ratios (1.13–21.28) and high zircon saturation temperatures (745°C to 839°C, with the majority being >800°C) demonstrated a relatively shallow depth level below the garnet stability field and an additional heat source. Taken together, the Early Devonian granitic magmatism could have been produced by the partial melting of ancient crustal materials heated by mantle‐derived magmas at high‐temperature and low‐pressure conditions during post‐collisional extensional collapse. The data obtained in this study, when viewed in conjunction with previous studies, provides more information about the tectonic processes that followed the closure of the North Qilian Ocean. The tectonic transition from continental collision to post‐collisional delamination could be constrained to ∼430 Ma, which is provided by the sudden decrease of Sr/Y and La/Yb ratios and an increase in zircon εHf(t) values for granitoids. A two‐stage tectonic evolution model from continental collision to post‐collisional extensional collapse for the NQOB includes (a) continental collision and crustal thickening during ca. 455–430 Ma, characterized by granulite‐facies metamorphism and widespread low‐Mg adakitic magmatism; (b) post‐collisional delamination of thickened continental crust and extensional collapse of orogen during ca. 430–390 Ma, provided by coeval high‐Mg adakitic magmatism, A‐type granites and I‐type granitoids with low Sr‐Y ratios. Research on the mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of altered end-Guadalupian basaltic volcanoclastic rocks can increase the understanding of the alteration history of the overlying stratabound Nb(Ta)-Zr(Hf)-REY-Ga mineralization in the Late Permian coal-bearing sequences. In this paper, based on petrographic observations in addition to XRD, XRF, and ICP-MS analyses, we present and discuss in detail the relationships between primary and secondary minerals and outline the distribution of major and trace element chemistry in the middle/Late Permian basaltic volcaniclastics from the ELIP's zone, western Guizhou, southwest China. The primary clastic suite consists of plagioclase-group minerals, clinopyroxenes, feldspathoids, spinels, and basaltic glasses. Fragments of mafic and, less commonly, felsic and alkaline volcanic rocks are minor components of the studied samples. The alteration products are represented by various chlorite-group minerals (including abundant chamosite), quartz, calcite, albite, analcime, barite, and pyrite, along with relatively minor amounts of titanite, sanidine, magnetite, rutile, and copiapite. The mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of the studied volcaniclastics provide strong evidence correlating them with the high-Ti basalt group, widely distributed within the inner Emeishan large igneous province (ELIP) and coeval rift zone of the middle and outer ELIP. After deposition, the volcaniclastics reacted with complex solutions including heated meteoric waters and were periodically infiltrated by seawater and ascending hydrothermal fluids. As a result, the primary volcanic rocks partly lost alkalis, titanium, silica, and most of the trace elements. This paper studies the mineralization process and the ore-forming setting of the Kantian fluorite deposit in South China through the zircon U-Pb chronology, quartz Rb-Sr dating, whole rock geochemistry, H-O isotope and fluid inclusions. A mineralization model for the Kantian fluorite deposit is proposed as follows: The subduction of the Pacific plate during the late mid-Jurassic and late Jurassic led to the formation of several fault zones. As the subduction gradually decelerated and eventually ceased, continental extension and lithosphere thinning occurred, accompanied by upwelling of the asthenosphere. This asthenosphere upwelling facilitated melting of the lithospheric mantle, resulting in the ascent of magma into the lower crust. Consequently, the intrusion of magma into the lower crust caused substantial heat, triggering partial melting of the lower crust. The molten material then ascended along faults, generating a significant quantity of granites. During the Early Cretaceous period, the Yanshan cycle witnessed another notable phase of magmatic activity. The residual magmatic hydrothermal fluid from this period served as a source of heating, while the pre-existing fault structures provided favorable pathways and storage space. Atmospheric precipitation infiltrated into the depth along these faults, and the deep-seated residual magmatic hydrothermal fluid heated the infiltrated atmospheric water, inducing cyclic upwelling. The upward migration of hydrothermal fluid continuously extracted Ca and F elements from the granites. Ongoing interaction between the fluid and the surrounding rocks led to changes in pH, coupled with alterations in temperature and pressure, ultimately resulting in the precipitation of fluorite with associated alteration zones in the surrounding rocks. The Yanshanian events have led to the development of South China as a unique granite province globally. Within South Jiangxi, numerous metallic and non-metallic deposits have a close association with Mesozoic granite formations. The Kantian fluorite deposit, a newly discovered non-metallic deposit in southern Jiangxi Province, is one such deposit that is linked to Mesozoic granites. The orebody at the Kantian fluorite deposit is identified as occurring in veined structures within the silicification fracture zone of Mesozoic granites, with strict control exerted by fault systems. Fluorite ore can be classified into two categories based on the amount of quartz and fluorite. The first category is the fluorite quartz type, which has a higher amount of quartz than fluorite. The second category is quartz fluorite type, which has more fluorite than quartz. Among these two categories, the quartz fluorite type is precipitated during the primary mineralization stage. Through the analysis of fluid inclusions within the fluorite, it was determined that the homogenization temperature is relatively low, ranging from 133 to 236℃. The fluid inclusions also display low salinity (0.18–3.39 wt% NaCl eqv.) and low density (0.75–0.96 g/cm3). Laser Raman spectroscopy revealed that the primary components of the fluid inclusions are H 2 O, with minor C 3 H 6. Isotope analysis indicated δD VSMOW values of fluorite ranging from −61.9 ‰ to −54.8 ‰ (average −59.8 ‰), while δ18O VSMOW values varied from 1.3 ‰ to 3.1 ‰ (average 2.0 ‰). This study presents chronological, petrological and geochemical data that suggest several processes. The metallogenic age is 135.6 ± 0.7 Ma. The mineralizing fluids were identified to the NaCl-H 2 O system, with heated meteoric water identified as the primary source; The ore-forming materials originated from the granite, and water–rock interactions are proposed as the primary mechanism for fluorite precipitation. The classification system, effective reservoir control elements, and major enrichment and exploration modes of helium resources in China are analyzed based on the source of helium, carrier, geological background, and anatomy of typical helium-rich fields. Firstly, based on the special characteristics of helium and the correlation analysis of natural gas accumulation and reservoir formation, we analyzed and sorted out the helium resource and play type classification scheme and classification system in China from nine aspects, namely, the source of helium parental sources, helium type diversities, the storage and carrier types, the technically and economically recoverable characteristics of carrier gases, the carrier gas genesis, the main components of carrier gases, the matching combination of helium sources and reservoirs, background of prototype basin structure, and helium content, to lay the foundation for the subsequent targeted and detailed studies and evaluation programs in different categories. Secondly, the analysis points out the characteristics of helium resource types in the east, middle, and west of China in terms of longitudinal and transverse distribution, tectonic dynamics, geological and geochemical characteristics, and key conditions for the formation of helium deposits. Thirdly, from the perspective of the helium “generation-migration-accumulation” system and the controlling elements and effectiveness of helium-rich reservoir formation, we analyze the effective controlling elements of helium accumulation and the related problems that deserve attention in geological evaluation and point out the misunderstandings in helium reservoir formation and exploration evaluation. Last but not least, from the perspective of basin tectonic background, helium enrichment controlling mechanism and exploration direction, the exploration and evaluation direction and classification scheme for the four element combination zones of “original basin–structure–lithology–carrier gas” helium accumulation in China have been proposed, based on which, four types of basins and eight types of helium-rich zones in China have been sorted out. In these eight types of helium-rich zones, eight typical helium-rich field enrichment and exploration patterns, including the ancient uplift type of China's craton, fracture-fold variant of the craton margin, fracture-rise type of depression basin, slope bulge and uplift type of foreland basin, fracture-convex type of fracture basin, and U/Th-rich basement type of basin were analyzed, and the main controlling factors of the formation of different types of helium-rich deposits were analyzed, which will provide a reference for the subsequent exploration and discovery of similar helium-rich areas and exploration target evaluation. The early Triassic (~250 Ma) hornblende gabbro from the Tengxian area of Yunkai Massif, South China, contains a mineral assemblage of clinopyroxene, hornblende, biotite, plagioclase, K-feldspar and quartz and accessory apatite, and zircon and ilmenite. Based on mineral association and crystallization sequence, two generations of the mineral assemblage have been identified: clinopyroxene + plagioclase + apatite (zircon) in Generation I and ilmenite + hornblende + biotite + K-feldspar + quartz in Generation II. The high crystallization temperature (T = 999–1069 °C) of clinopyroxene and its coexistence with labradorite (An = 52–58) indicate that Generation I crystallized in a basaltic magma, while the hornblende's relatively low crystallization temperature (T = 780–820 °C) and coexistence with K-feldspar and quartz suggest that Generation II formed in an evolved alkaline melt. The mineralogical records are likely attributed to pulsed intrusion of the late-stage evolved magma into a crystal mush, like in Generation I. The bulk-rock geochemical data include a sub-alkaline affinity, arc-type trace element features, and highly enriched Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf isotopic compositions, consistent with the isotopic records from the accessory minerals, e.g., the very high δ18O values in both zircon and apatite and significantly negative εHf(t) in zircon. The combined mineral and bulk-rock geochemical data suggest that the primary magma for the Tengxian hornblende gabbro was derived from a mantle wedge that had been metasomatized by voluminous subducted terrigenous sediment-derived melts in response to subduction of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean. The Erlian Basin is a Mesozoic–Cenozoic rift basin with a large thick Pliocene sandstones deposit, which has important oil, gas, and uranium resources exploration potential. The paleo-sedimentary environment plays an important role in controlling the development of mineral resource. However, provenance and depositional environment of the Pliocene sandstones remain enigmatic. To address it, this study reports the whole rock geochemical compositions of sandstones from the Youqi and Siziwangqi regions to reflect the paleo-sedimentary environment. The Youqi sandstones are classified as litharenite-arkose, whereas the Siziwangqi sandstones exhibit a graywacke affinity. Furthermore, both the Youqi and Siziwangqi sandstones exhibit low CIA, PIA, ICV, and Th/U values, suggesting that their source rocks were of great maturation and experienced low to moderate chemical weathering processes. The Ni/Co, U/Th, and Ce/Ce* values in these sandstones range from 0.4 to 5.9, 0.20 to 0.37, and 0.80 to 1.09, respectively, indicating that these sandstones were formed in an oxygen-rich depositional environment. Additionally, interelement ratios such as Sr/Cu, SiO2/Al2O3, and Rb/Sr suggest a hot and arid paleoclimate during the deposition of these sandstones. Tectonic discrimination diagrams reveal a continental arc environment for the studied sandstones, Combining regional structural background, implying that the Erlian Basin was influenced by both Himalayan and the Pacific-Ocean-surrounding tectonism during the Pliocene period. The East Kunlun Orogenic Belt (EKOB), northwestern China, recording long-term and multiple accretionary and collisional events of the Tethyan Ocean, belongs to a high-pressure to ultra-high-pressure (HP-UHP) metamorphic belt that underwent complex metamorphic overprinting in the early Paleozoic. In this contribution, we carry out an integrated study, including field investigations, petrographic observations, whole-rock analyses, zircon U-Pb dating, and P-T condition modeling using THERMOCALC in the NCKFMASHTO system for the eclogites, especially for the newly discovered UHP eclogite in the eastern part of EKOB. The eclogites exhibit geochemistry ranging from normal mid-ocean ridge basalt (N-MORB) to enriched mid-ocean ridge basalt (E-MORB). Zircons from the eclogites yield metamorphic ages of 416–413 Ma, indicating the eclogite facies metamorphism. Coesite inclusions in garnet and omphacite and quartz exsolution in omphacite and pseudosection calculation suggest that some eclogites experienced UHP eclogite facies metamorphism. The eclogites from the eastern part of EKOB record peak conditions of 29–33 kbar/705–760 °C, first retrograde conditions of 10 kbar at 9.5–12.5 kbar/610–680 °C, and second retrograde conditions at ~6 kbar/<600 °C. New evidence of the early Paleozoic UHP metamorphism in East Kunlun is identified in our study. Thus, we suggest that these eclogites were produced by the oceanic crust subducting to the depth of 100 km and exhumation. The presence of East Gouli and Gazhima eclogites in this study and other eclogites (430–414 Ma) in East Kunlun record the final closure of the local branch ocean of the Proto-Tethys and the evolution from subduction to collision. The Permian Pingdiquan Formation (P 2 p) in Shishugou Sag, Junggar Basin, Northwest China, is a typical example of mixed sedimentary strata formed in a saline lacustrine environment, characterized by complex lithological assemblages and extensive distribution of organic-rich source rocks. To further investigate the differences in oil-source contribution and hydrocarbon generation characteristics of source rocks with different lithologies, studying the difference of their geochemical characteristics and the formation mechanism of organic-rich source rocks is the top priority. Based on a comprehensive analysis of lithologic types, geochemical characteristics, and hydrocarbon generation potential of source rocks using organic petrology, molecular geochemistry and element geochemistry, this paper reveals the formation background and organic matter enrichment mechanism of the P 2 p organic-rich source rocks. The results show that the mixed sedimentary rocks of the P 2 p were deposited under relatively arid and saline lacustrine conditions. Paleoclimatic conditions tended to be more arid and hydrothermal activity became more frequent during the sedimentation process from mudstone, dolomitic mudstone to argillaceous dolomite. Consequently, the water column salinity elevated, leading to an increased proportion of salt-tolerant green algae and slight salt-tolerant cyanobacteria compared to salt-intolerant algae. Frequent changes in paleoclimate and hydrothermal activity control the interbedding deposition of mudstone, dolomitic mudstone and argillaceous dolomite, and the resulting salinity fluctuations contribute to variations in the proportion of salt-tolerant and intolerant algae in source rocks with different lithologies. Furthermore, the source rocks within the mixed sedimentary strata (mudstone, dolomitic mudstone and argillaceous dolomite) all exhibit substantial hydrocarbon generation potential, and there exists heterogeneity among source rocks of the same lithology. The key factor influencing the development of these organic-rich source rocks is the enhancement of palaeoproductivity driven by volcanic activity. This paper focuses on the typical uranium deposit in the red beds—the HLJ-DL uranium deposit in the southwestern part of the Songliao Basin. It investigates the genesis of gray sandstone within uranium-bearing rock series and its relationship with uranium mineralization. The lithology of representative drill cores, including the red sandstone for comparative study, is methodically examined, along with their elemental geochemistry as well as carbon and oxygen isotope characteristics. The petrological characteristics suggest that both the gray and red sandstone share similar compositions of clastic particles, indicating minimal influence of the source rock on the sandstone color. The gray sandstone displays comparable TOC content (averaging around 0.05 %) and δ18O PDB values (averaging around −16 ‰) to the red sandstone. However, it exhibits relatively higher δ13C PDB values (averaging −0.26 ‰), whereas the average δ13C PDB value for the red beds is −1.61 ‰. The data indicate that the gray sandstone is less affected by hydrothermal or hydrocarbon fluids. Compared to the red sandstone, which has relatively higher Cu/Al values (averaging 1.09) and Fe3+/Fe2+ ratios (averaging 3.37), the gray sandstone exhibits low Cu/Al values (averaging 0.44) and a low Fe3+/Fe2+ ratio (averaging 0.36), suggesting its formation in a relatively reducing environment. The reducing conditions necessary for the formation of gray sandstone may stem from the climate becoming relatively warm and humid, irrespective of whether it originates from the original sedimentary environment or is induced by the reducing pore water discharged from dark mudstones. The chemical weathering index of fine-grained sediments indicates that, the gray sandstones were commonly configured in relatively humid-warm climate with fairly low dissolved oxygen content in the bottom water. Additionally, the deposition of the uranium-bearing rock series experienced alternating climatic changes, rather than consistently being in a humid-warm climate. This resulted in the sand bodies with low TOC content, insufficient reducing potential, and uranium mineralization primarily occurring in the interior of the basin. Organic matter has a relatively weak control over uranium mineralization, whereas uranium mineralization shows a certain correlation with iron reduction. The ore-forming fluid was uranium-rich oxygenated atmospheric water. Dark-colored mudstones, formed under humid-warm climatic condition, contain relatively high TOC contents (avg. 0.43 %) and exhibit a strong reducing capacity. The reducing pore water in dark-colored mudstones excreted into the adjacent sandstones under compaction during the early diagenesis, is able to serve as a vital reducing agent in later-stage uranium mineralization. Additionally, certain dark-colored mudstones with high uranium content (up to 944 ppm) undergo significant uranium pre-enrichment, providing a partial uranium source for uranium mineralization. The sandstone-type uranium deposit of the Kelulun Depression is the first industrially valuable uranium deposit discovered in the Hailar Basin. This study performed a systematic examination of 17 sandstone samples from the Yimin Formation in the Kelulun Depression based on various analytical techniques. The findings of the current study were synthesized with previous research to investigate the impact of the redox conditions and the tectonic background of the source area, as well as the paleoclimatic evolution of the Yimin Formation on uranium mineralization. The elemental Mo, U/Th, V/Cr, Ni/Co, and V/(V + Ni) ratios indicate that the paleowater was in an oxygen-rich environment during the deposition of the Yimin Formation. Additionally, the C-value, Sr/Cu, Al2O3/MgO, and Rb/Sr ratios indicate that the Yimin Formation was formed in a paleoclimate characterized by arid-to-semi-arid conditions. The geochemical characteristics of the observed elements indicated that the sediment source of the Yimin Formation was mainly felsic rocks from the upper continental crust, the weathering of the rock was weak, and the tectonic background was a passive continental margin. Coffinite is distributed in the form of cementation and stellates within or around pyrite crystals, and uranium-titanium oxide is mostly distributed in an irregular granular distribution in the biotite cleavage fractures of the study area. In summary, the findings of this study reveal that the tectonic settings, provenance, uranium source, paleoclimate, and oxygen-rich paleowater of the Yimin Formation have important geological significance for the large-scale uranium mineralization of the Kelulun Depression. The Zanhuang Complex is situated on the eastern margin of the Trans-North China Orogen, with the Huangcha Pluton being a constituent of this complex. To ascertain the nature of the approximately 2.5-billion-year-old Huangcha Pluton, crucial evidence for understanding its extensional setting was sought through petrogenesis and dating investigations. LA-ICP-MS dating of zircon from the granite yielded an age of (2488 ± 6) Ma. Primarily composed of porphyritic monzonite with sporadic melanocratic enclaves, the Pluton's phenocrysts are predominantly feldspar with minor quartz. The granite exhibits high SiO2 content (72.64%–74.16%) and alkali levels, with Na2O + K2O ranging from 7.59% to 9.07%, classifying it as a shoshonitic series with a slightly peraluminous feature. Enrichment in large-ion lithophile (LIL) elements (Rb, Th, and U) and depletion in Sr, V, Cr, Co, and Ni were observed, with high Rb/Sr and Ga/Al ratios ranging from 0.73 to 2.72 and 2.75 × 10−4 to 3.11 × 10−4, respectively. The rock exhibits high εNd(t) values, ranging from −0.06 to 0.88, with TDM2 ages falling between 2.79 and 2.87 billion years. Zircon grains display 176Hf/177Hf ratios ranging from 0.281266 to 0.281412 and εHf(t) values spanning from 0.96 to 6.18, calculated using the 207Pb/206Pb age. It is suggested that the Huangcha Pluton represents A-type granite formed via anatexis of the Neoarchean TTG in an extensional setting following orogenic processes. The formation of the Huangcha Pluton further corroborates the stabilization of the North China Craton towards the end of the Neoarchean. This finding supports the hypothesis that the North China Craton may belong to the Rae-family cratons, sharing similar magmatic and tectono-metamorphic records around ~2.5 billion years ago. The accurate reconstruction of the early Cambrian paleoclimate and paleoceanographic conditions on the Yangtze Plate is crucial for understanding the ancient environment during the Cambrian Explosion. It is also a key factor in understanding the ecological habits of organisms during the Cambrian Explosion. The study utilized field outcrops, thin section analysis, and major and trace elements to investigate the sedimentary environment, provenance, paleoweathering, and paleoclimate of the Lower Cambrian Hongjingshao (HJS) Formation (Cambrian Stage 3, ~515 Ma) in the Yangtze Basin, eastern Yunnan, SW China. The HJS sandstones are composed of 10 lithofacies, including massive and weakly bedded gravel supported by coarse sandstone (Gm), trough cross-bedded sandstone (St), planar cross-bedded sandstone (Sp), ripple cross-laminated sandstone (Sr), horizontal bedded sandstone (Sh), scour-fill sandstone (Se), massive sandstone (Sm), fine to medium sandstone with thin bed muddy siltstone (Fl), muddy siltstone (Fsc), and mudstone (Fm). On the basis of these lithofacies, channel fill and over-bank deposits in delta and shallow shelf depositional environments are suggested for HJS Formation. The major elements-based provenance discriminant function and mineral composition indicate that felsic rocks from the recycled orogen and continental block are the main sediment source terrane for the HJS sandstones of the study area. CIA, PIA, and CIW values range from 71.29 to 93.72, indicating an intermediate to intense chemical weathering and semiarid to humid climate conditions in Cambrian Stage 3. The research findings have clarified the paleoclimate and paleoceanographic environment of the Early Cambrian in the Yangtze region, which is of significant importance for understanding the early biological and ecological marine environment in the study area. The organic-rich mudstones and dolostones of the Permian Fengcheng Formation (Fm.) are typically alkaline lacustrine source rocks, which are typified by impressively abundant β-carotane. Abundant bcarotane has been well acknowledged as an effective indicator of biological sources or depositional environments. However, the specific biological sources of β-carotane and the coupling control of biological sources and environmental factors on the enrichment of β-carotane in the Fengcheng Fm. remains obscure. Based on a comprehensive investigation of the bulk, molecular geochemistry, and organic petrology of sedimentary rocks and the biochemistry of phytoplankton in modern alkaline lakes, we proposed a new understanding of the biological precursors of β-carotane and elucidated the enrichment mechanism of β-carotane in the Fengcheng Fm. The results show that the biological precursors crucially control the enrichment of β-carotane in the Fengcheng Fm. The haloalkaliphilic cyanobacteria are the primary biological sources of β-carotane, which is suggested by a good positive correlation between the 2-methylhopane index, 7- + 8-methyl heptadecanes/Cmax, C29%, and β-carotane/Cmax in sedimentary rocks and the predominance of cyanobacteria with abundant β-carotene in modern alkaline lakes. The enrichment of β-carotane requires the reducing condition, and the paleoredox state that affects the enrichment of β-carotane appears to have a threshold. The paleoclimate conditions do not considerably impact the enrichment of β-carotane, but they have some influence on the water's paleosalinity by affecting evaporation and precipitation. While it does not directly affect the enrichment of β-carotane in the Fengcheng Fm., paleosalinity does have an impact on the cyanobacterial precursor supply and the preservation conditions. The different reservoirs in deep Songliao Basin have non-homogeneous lithologies and include multiple layers with a high content of hydrogen gas. The gas composition and stable isotope characteristics vary significantly, but the origin analysis of different gas types has previously been weak. Based on the geochemical parameters of gas samples from different depths and the analysis of geological settings, this research covers the diverse origins of natural gas in different strata. The gas components are mainly methane with a small amount of C2+, and non-hydrocarbon gases, including nitrogen (N2), hydrogen (H2), carbon dioxide (CO2), and helium (He). At greater depth, the carbon isotope of methane becomes heavier, and the hydrogen isotope points to a lacustrine sedimentary environment. With increasing depth, the origins of N2 and CO2 change gradually from a mixture of organic and inorganic to inorganic. The origins of hydrogen gas are complex and include organic sources, water radiolysis, water-rock (Fe2+containing minerals) reactions, and mantle-derived. The shales of Denglouku and Shahezi Formations, as source rocks, provide the premise for generation and occurrence of organic gas. Furthermore, the deep faults and fluid activities in Basement Formation control the generation and migration of mantle-derived gas. The discovery of a high content of H2 in study area not only reveals the organic and inorganic association of natural-gas generation, but also provides a scientific basis for the exploration of deep hydrogen-rich gas. Alunite is used as a representative mineral for indicating deposits in lithocaps, and lithocaps are generally related to the porphyry–(high-sulfidation) epithermal mineralization system. The study of alunite is of theoretical and exploration significance for prospecting potential underlying porphyry and epithermal deposits. Studies on alunite geochemistry have made breakthroughs, but there is little research on alunite mineralogy, for example, using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images, differential thermal analysis (DTA), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). This study mainly focuses on alunite micromorphological characteristics, weight loss changes with temperature, and ionic group structure, aiming to identify the relationship between these features and indications for prospecting. The Fanshan lithocap is located in the northwest part of the Luzong basin, Anhui province of China, and it can potentially be used for exploring porphyry and epithermal deposits. Fanshan alunite is formed in two stages with three types of alunite. IA alunite is formed in the early hydrothermal stage and replaces felsic minerals in the Zhuanqiao Formation, IB alunite is formed in the later hydrothermal stage and fills in open spaces with bladed particles, and II alunite is the product of pyrite oxidation and reaction with other minerals in the supergene stage. Alunite electron microprobe data and energy-dispersive spectroscopy data further confirm temperature decreases with hydrothermal evolution, and the presence of a high-sulfidation epithermal system in the Luzong basin. Aside from the forming environment, SWIR, and geochemistry of alunite, there are other indication indexes; for example, the larger peak values at 3480 cm−1 and smaller peak values at 1080 cm−1 in FT-IR spectra and the deeper exothermic valleys at 750 °C and steeper weight loss slopes in the DTA curve suggest a favorable formation environment for alunite and provide valuable indications for deposit exploration and assessments of mineralization potential. The Shuangwang Au deposit (with a gold resource of approximately 70 t Au), is located in the Fenxian-Taibai fore-arc basin in the West Qinling Orogen of central China. Igneous intrusions in the region include the Xiba granitic pluton and granite porphyry and lamprophyre dykes. The Xiba pluton is composed of granodiorite and monzonite granite. The granodiorite is typical I-type granite, and it yields a crystallization age of 221.1 ± 1.2 Ma and a two-stage Hf model age of 1432–1634 Ma. The monzonite granite shows a transitional characteristic between I-type and A-type granite, and it yields a crystallization age of 214.8 ± 1.2 Ma and a two-stage Hf model age of 1443–1549 Ma. The granitoid was derived mainly from a crust–mantle mixed source. The ages indicate that the granodiorite and monzonite granite formed during two different stages. The REE distribution patterns of the Xiba granitoid exhibit significant fractionation between LREE and HREE, showing right-dipping curves, with an enrichment of LREE and a deficit of HREE. The granodiorite displays a light negative Eu anomaly, while the monzonite granite displays an obvious negative Eu anomaly. The granite porphyry dikes are distributed in the No. I breccia and Jiupinggou granite porphyry, and they yield crystallization ages of 219.9 ± 1.5 Ma and 213.1 ± 0.89 Ma, respectively, and two-stage Hf model ages of 1382–1501 Ma and 1373–1522 Ma, respectively. The lamprophyre dikes in the deposit yield a crystallization age of 214.4 ± 2.7 Ma. After the collision event between the Yangtze and the North China Plates along the Qinling orogenic belt, at approximately 220 Ma in the Late Triassic, the detachment of the slab produced the upwelling of the asthenosphere material. Under conditions of mantle heat and tectonic stress, widespread partial melting of the subducted continental crust and the upper lithosphere mantle occurred, forming granitoids with various degrees of adakite characteristics. The Songliao Basin is rich in uranium ores, and the Yaojia Formation, which is dominated by gray fine-grained sandstones, contains the main ore-bearing stratum. Rocks in the formation contain high SiO2, Al2O3, and total alkali, with enrichment in Rb, Th, U, K, and light rare earth elements but are depleted in high field strength elements, similar to upper crustal rocks. U–Pb dating of zircon grains from sandstones in the formation yielded four groups of ages, including 99–182, 202–245, 284–365, and 1800–1900 Ma. These ages combined with the Hf isotope composition, geochemical characteristics, and regional history suggest that the Yaojia Formation rocks are associated with passive and active continental margin settings. These clastic rocks originate principally from felsic rocks in the Zhangguangcailing–Xiao Xing'anling area, and these were deposited in oxic freshwater environments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

During the Ediacaran–Cambrian transition, a series of stratal continuous and well-preserved siliceous rock and phosphorite assemblages developed in Qingzhen, Guizhou Province, China, facilitating research on the biological evolution, marine chemistry, and palaeoecological environment of this period. Therefore, we investigated the paleontology, trace and rare earth elements, total organic carbon, total sulfur content, and Zn isotopes of the phosphorus-bearing rock series in the Taozichong Formation of the Cambrian period in Qingzhen. Geochemical analysis reveals that the sedimentary rocks in this area were formed in the oxygen-rich seawater environment and were not affected by high-temperature hydrothermal activity. The upwelling ocean current provided abundant rare earth elements and other nutrient elements, as well as conditions for the prosperity of biota in Qingzhen. In addition, the δ66Zn value (−0.21‰–0.41‰ range and 0.17‰ mean) in the Qingzhen phosphorous rock series was much lower than that in seawater, indicating a strong level of biological productivity. The variation trend of δ13C, δ18O, and δ66Zn exhibited four stages and three obvious drift events. The results suggest that climate change during this period led to the intermittent flourishing and extinction of organisms, which triggered the negative drift of δ13C and δ18O in the ocean, resulting in a coordinated response of δ66Zn. The unique ecological environment of the Taozichong Formation in Qingzhen also provides favorable conditions for the population continuation of Ediacaran-type benthic soft-bodied metazoon dominated by discoid fossils, Shaanxilithes, worm fossils, and sponge fossils in the Cambrian strata, as well as participation in the global biological explosion events. The Aolunhua Mo deposit is a typical porphyry deposit, which is located in the middle southern section of the Da Hinggan Range metallogenic belt. Here, we report LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb age data from the Mo-associated granitoid, together with the element geochemistry of the zircons, discussing the source material of the ore-forming rock of the deposit. The zircon data constrain the crystallization age of the granite porphyry as 135.0 ± 1.0 Ma, correlating it with the widespread Yanshanian intermediate–felsic magmatic activity. The Th/U ratio of the zircon is greater than 0.1, with a significant positive Ce anomaly (Ce* = 1.72–188.71) and a negative Eu anomaly (Eu* = 0.05–0.57). The zircons show depleted LREE and enriched HREE patterns, as well as low La and Pr contents, suggesting crystallization from crust-derived magmas. Based on the geology of the ore deposit and the age data, in combination with the regional geodynamic evolution, we infer that the Aolunhua Mo deposit was formed near the peak stage of Sn poly-metallic metallogenesis in the Da Hinggan Range region at around 140 Ma, associated with a tectonic setting, characterized by the transition from compression to extension. Based on a comparison with the newly found Mo deposits along the banks of the Xilamulun River, we propose that the Tianshan–Linxi is an important Mo-metallogenic belt. [Display omitted] • The genesis of Jurassic igneous rocks in the Yanbian area was related to the subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate. • The Paleo-Pacific Plate started subduction beneath the Eurasian continent at the Early Jurassic. • Slab tear occurred at the Late Jurassic and this was followed by oblique subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate. It is widely accepted that the subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate beneath the Eurasian continent began during the early Mesozoic; however, the details of the subduction process remain uncertain. This paper presents new zircon U–Pb–Hf and whole-rock geochemical data for Jurassic intrusive rocks from the Yanbian area of NE China to provide a better understanding of the subduction history of the Paleo-Pacific Plate. Zircon U–Pb dating results reveal that three stages of Jurassic magmatism are recorded in the Yanbian area, namely, Early Jurassic (188–179 Ma), Middle Jurassic (172–163 Ma), and Late Jurassic (158–156 Ma). Early Jurassic intrusive rocks from the Yanbian area are predominantly calc-alkaline gabbro, gabbro-diorite, quartz monzonite, granodiorite, and syenogranite. These geochemical features and rock associations are indicative of formation in an active continental margin setting related to the initial subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate beneath the Eurasian continent. The Early Jurassic granitoids were formed mainly by the partial melting of heterogeneous lower crust. The Middle Jurassic granitoids are geochemically similar to adakites and have ε Hf (t) values of + 2.0 to + 10.1. These rocks are inferred to have been derived from magmas generated by the partial melting of thickened juvenile lower-crustal material. Their formation was related to the subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate. Late Jurassic adakites in the Yanbian area formed in a compressional tectonic setting. Their negative ε Hf (t) values (−17.2 to − 8.6) and T DM2 ages (2025–1552 Ma) indicate that the primary magma was derived from the partial melting of ancient continental crust. Combining our data with the distribution of Late Jurassic igneous rocks in the NE Asian continental margin and the northward migration of Jurassic accretionary complexes along the margin, we conclude that the subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate beneath the Eurasian continent during the Late Jurassic–earliest Early Cretaceous had a low angle of obliquity. Origin and tectonic setting of late Late Paleozoic to Early Mesozoic igneous rocks in the northern Qaidam Block (NQ) have long been a matter of debate. In this paper, we report new zircon U-Pb ages and Hf isotopic compositions and bulk rock major and trace elemental compositions for granitoids of the Yanchangbeishan area in the NQ. The granodiorite, tonalite, granodiorite, and syenogranite yielded zircon U-Pb ages of 271.9 Ma, 262.0 Ma, 272.4 Ma and 261.3 Ma, respectively, corresponding to ε Hf (t) values are 13.04–14.32, 8.14–10.77, 8.66–11.88, and 8.22–10.43, respectively. These granitoids are compositionally I-type granites and exhibit varying degrees of enrichment in Rb, Th, U, and K, and depletion in Nb, Ta, and Ti. According to field relationships, petrology, geochronology, and geochemistry, the granitoid types can be divided into three groups: (1) ca. 272 Ma granodiorites, which are formed through partial melting of metagreywackes and amphibolites derived from depleted mantle; (2) ca. 262 Ma tonalite, which represents a typical high-silica adakite derived from partial melting of subducted oceanic crust during the evolution of depleted mantle; and (3) ca. 261 Ma syenogranite, which is formed by the partial melting and high-degree fractional crystallization of mixed crustal materials. Considering our findings and the regional geological background, we propose a five-stage tectonic evolution model of subduction slab roll-back and subduction zone retreat for the late Late Paleozoic to Early Mesozoic of NQ. Scheelite, one kind of common REE-rich and U-bearing hydrothermal mineral, is extensively developed in various types of gold deposits, which can be used to record nature and timing of metallogenesis. The Zhaishang Carlin-like gold deposit in the Qinling Orogen is a giant Au deposit, hosting 127t of Au @ 2.67 g/t with economic concentrations of tungsten and antimony. The study reports two types of scheelite based on the characteristics of petrography and geochemistry. Sch A shows significant oscillatory zoning with dark gray cathodoluminescence (CL) response, whereas Sch B displays patchy textures with brighter CL response. Systematic LA-ICP-MS U–Pb dating of Sch A and Sch B yields ages of 227.1 ± 3.2 Ma and 226.2 ± 6.9 Ma, respectively. The new dates, constraining the Zhaishang Au–W mineralization to ~ 227Ma, coincide well with the western Qinling magmatism, metallogenic and tectonic events. There are significant variations in concentration, the Sch A has low REE content (mean = 41.3 ppm), negative Eu-anomaly with slightly positive Ce-anomaly, whereas Sch B, with small negative or positive Eu-anomaly, has higher REE content (mean = 247 ppm) and higher positive Ce-anomaly. The positive correlation of EuN and EuN* records oxidizing condition during the whole W mineralization event. Additionally, Sch B intergrown with selenides with an increase in the Ce-anomaly supports that the latter has higher oxygen fugacity environment. The Sr isotope signature for scheelite supports that ore-forming metals mostly inherited the host rock component, while the proportion of magma-derived Sr increased in the Sch B. Fluid–rock interactions co-precipitated Au and W caused by the release of Fe and Ca cations and the increase of pH. The study highlights that scheelite as a recorder can help in deciphering the nature and timing of metallogenesis of the studied Au–Sb–W deposit, and thus other similar Au–W deposits. The Huaduoshan Cu–Mo prospect is in the Duobaoshan orefield, northeast China. The Cu–Mo mineralization occurs in the granodiorites as veinlet-disseminated. The ore-forming process can be divided into four mineralization stages: (I) quartz–pyrite–magnetite; (II) quartz–pyrite–chalcopyrite ± molybdenite; (III) quartz–pyrite–molybdenite–chalcopyrite–sphalerite; and (IV) quartz–calcite–minor pyrite. Liquid-rich two-phase aqueous (L-type), vapour-rich aqueous (V-type) and daughter-minerals three-phase (S-type) fluid inclusions (FIs) were identified at Huaduoshan. The last two types of FIs are absent in stages III and IV. The homogenization temperatures of FIs from stages I to IV are 375–438, 335–378, 283–335, and 223–267 ℃, with corresponding salinities of 2.4–50.4, 2.1–44.9, 2.7–10.1, and 1.7–7.3 wt. % NaCl eqv., respectively. The H–O isotope data of quartz in stages I (δ18OH2O = 6.1–8.0‰, δDH2O = −102.4–−94.6‰) show a magmatic origin of ore-forming fluid; the decreasing δ18OH2O (−6.8–3.2‰) and δDH2O (−117.1–−98.5‰) values of quartz in stage II–IV show the fluid mixing with meteoric water. The S–Pb isotopic values (δ34S = −2.7–0.8; 206Pb/204Pb = 18.236–18.599; 207Pb/204 Pb = 15.504–15.557; 208Pb/204Pb = 37.816–38.629) of pyrites indicate that the ore-forming materials are of magmatic origin. Fluid boiling and mixing may be the major mechanisms of ore precipitation. Zircon U–Pb age (172.1 ± 0.5 Ma) and geochemical data indicate that the ore-related granodiorites are I-type rocks formed in the subduction setting of the Paleo-Pacific Ocean Plate in the Early–Middle Jurassic. In conclusion, we propose that the Huaduoshan Cu–Mo prospect is a porphyry deposit and has potential for further exploration of porphyry Cu–Mo prospecting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paleolake level, which is controlled by the moisture balance (precipitation minus evaporation) within the lake basin, is a significant factor in determining the deposition of lacustrine organic-rich shale (LORS) across geological time, and hence influences shale oil enrichment. However, the impact of lake-level-fluctuations on shale oil enrichment of LORS is not well understood. Based on an integration of bulk geochemistry, organic petrography, pyrolysis gas chromatography, and element compositions, we address this issue using the Paleogene Biyang Depression in East China as an example. High lake levels, combined with anoxic–suboxic conditions, brackish–saline water, high productivity, and low detrital influx, are favorable for LORS deposition, which is characterized by a large distribution area and thickness, a high potential for oil generation and emplacement, and a high free shale oil content. In contrast, LORS deposited during low lake levels, with suboxic–dysoxic conditions, fresh–brackish water, low productivity, and high detrital influx, has a small distribution area and thickness, a low potential for oil generation and emplacement, and a low free shale oil content (a comparable maturity was present in all the studied LORS). Our data suggests that the elevated lake level led to higher salinity, stronger reduction conditions, higher productivity, and lower clastic inflow in the paleolake, forming LORS with higher shale oil potential. Rock weathering, an important geological process on the earth's surface, plays a key role in shaping surface morphology, providing nutrients needed by the ecosystem, and regulating the global climate. However, the regimes for controlling rock weathering in different regions are still controversial. In this respect, the heavy minerals, elements, Sr-Nd isotope, magnetic susceptibility, and chromaticity of the granite weathering profile in Harbin, a high latitude area of China, were analyzed for understanding the weathering characteristics and mechanisms of the granite weathering profile in the cold area. The results indicate that the profile underwent strengthened physical weathering (large volumes of cracks in the granite parent rock) and low–moderate chemical weathering (CIA = 56~68). However, the chemical weathering does not clearly affect the composition of the weathering products, making the weathering products a good inheritance from the parent rocks, as evidenced by the binary diagram (e.g., TiO2-Zr, and La/Sc-Co/Th) and geochemical genes (LG01 and LG03). The development process of the weathering profile has been affected by the input of external materials and biological activities, as evidenced by the Sr-Nd isotopic composition, Th/Zr values, chemical depletion fractions, ΔAl/Ti ratios, χfd%, and geochemical genes (LG03). Notably, a progressively decreasing weathering degree with a reduced depth is observed in the profile, which is likely to be related to an addition of external materials and/or effects of biological activities. In addition, the weathering regime of the profile does not vary in geology time, characterized by a kinetic-limited weathering regime with a limited supply. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
