The recent release of the Apple Vision Pro has reignited interest in the metaverse, showcasing the intensified efforts of technology giants in developing platforms and devices to facilitate its growth. As the metaverse continues to proliferate, it is foreseeable that everyday environments will become increasingly saturated with its presence. Consequently, uncovering links to these metaverse items will be a crucial first step to interacting with this new augmented world. In this paper, we address the problem of establishing connections with virtual worlds within everyday environments, especially those that are not readily discernible through direct visual inspection. We introduce a vision-based approach leveraging Artcode visual markers to uncover hidden metaverse links embedded in our ambient surroundings. This approach progressively localises the access points to the metaverse, transitioning from coarse to fine localisation, thus facilitating an exploratory interaction process. Via thousands of papers in Explainable AI (XAI), attention maps \cite{vaswani2017attention} and feature importance maps \cite{bansal2020sam} have been established as a common means for finding how important each input feature is to an AI's decisions. It is an interesting, unexplored question whether allowing users to edit the feature importance at test time would improve a human-AI team's accuracy on downstream tasks. In this paper, we address this question by leveraging CHM-Corr, a state-of-the-art, ante-hoc explainable classifier \cite{taesiri2022visual} that first predicts patch-wise correspondences between the input and training-set images, and then bases on them to make classification decisions. We build CHM-Corr++, an interactive interface for CHM-Corr, enabling users to edit the feature importance map provided by CHM-Corr and observe updated model decisions. Via CHM-Corr++, users can gain insights into if, when, and how the model changes its outputs, improving their understanding beyond static explanations. However, our study with 18 expert users who performed 1,400 decisions finds no statistical significance that our interactive approach improves user accuracy on CUB-200 bird image classification over static explanations. This challenges the hypothesis that interactivity can boost human-AI team accuracy and raises needs for future research. Advances in camera-based physiological monitoring have enabled the robust, non-contact measurement of respiration and the cardiac pulse, which are known to be indicative of the sleep stage. This has led to research into camera-based sleep monitoring as a promising alternative to "gold-standard" polysomnography, which is cumbersome, expensive to administer, and hence unsuitable for longer-term clinical studies. In this paper, we introduce SleepVST, a transformer model which enables state-of-the-art performance in camera-based sleep stage classification (sleep staging). After pre-training on contact sensor data, SleepVST outperforms existing methods for cardio-respiratory sleep staging on the SHHS and MESA datasets, achieving total Cohen's kappa scores of 0.75 and 0.77 respectively. We then show that SleepVST can be successfully transferred to cardio-respiratory waveforms extracted from video, enabling fully contact-free sleep staging. Using a video dataset of 50 nights, we achieve a total accuracy of 78.8\% and a Cohen's $\kappa$ of 0.71 in four-class video-based sleep staging, setting a new state-of-the-art in the domain., Comment: CVPR 2024 Highlight Paper

Recent research has begun to examine the potential of automatically finding and fixing accessibility issues that manifest in software. However, while recent work makes important progress, it has generally been skewed toward identifying issues that affect users with certain disabilities, such as those with visual or hearing impairments. However, there are other groups of users with different types of disabilities that also need software tooling support to improve their experience. As such, this paper aims to automatically identify accessibility issues that affect users with motor-impairments. To move toward this goal, this paper introduces a novel approach, called MotorEase, capable of identifying accessibility issues in mobile app UIs that impact motor-impaired users. Motor-impaired users often have limited ability to interact with touch-based devices, and instead may make use of a switch or other assistive mechanism -- hence UIs must be designed to support both limited touch gestures and the use of assistive devices. MotorEase adapts computer vision and text processing techniques to enable a semantic understanding of app UI screens, enabling the detection of violations related to four popular, previously unexplored UI design guidelines that support motor-impaired users, including: (i) visual touch target size, (ii) expanding sections, (iii) persisting elements, and (iv) adjacent icon visual distance. We evaluate MotorEase on a newly derived benchmark, called MotorCheck, that contains 555 manually annotated examples of violations to the above accessibility guidelines, across 1599 screens collected from 70 applications via a mobile app testing tool. This paper explores the potential of Large Language Models(LLMs) in zero-shot anomaly detection for safe visual navigation. With the assistance of the state-of-the-art real-time open-world object detection model Yolo-World and specialized prompts, the proposed framework can identify anomalies within camera-captured frames that include any possible obstacles, then generate concise, audio-delivered descriptions emphasizing abnormalities, assist in safe visual navigation in complex circumstances. Moreover, our proposed framework leverages the advantages of LLMs and the open-vocabulary object detection model to achieve the dynamic scenario switch, which allows users to transition smoothly from scene to scene, which addresses the limitation of traditional visual navigation. Furthermore, this paper explored the performance contribution of different prompt components, provided the vision for future improvement in visual accessibility, and paved the way for LLMs in video anomaly detection and vision-language understanding.

Purpose: Biopsies play a crucial role in determining the classification and staging of tumors. Ultrasound is frequently used in this procedure to provide real-time anatomical information. Using augmented reality (AR), surgeons can visualize ultrasound data and spatial navigation information seamlessly integrated with real tissues. This innovation facilitates faster and more precise biopsy operations. Methods: We developed an AR biopsy navigation system with low display latency and high accuracy. Ultrasound data is initially read by an image capture card and streamed to Unity via net communication. In Unity, navigation information is rendered and transmitted to the HoloLens 2 device using holographic remoting. Retro-reflective tool tracking is implemented on the HoloLens 2, enabling simultaneous tracking of the ultrasound probe and biopsy needle. Distinct navigation information is provided during in-plane and out-of-plane punctuation. To evaluate the effectiveness of our system, we conducted a study involving ten participants, for puncture accuracy and biopsy time, comparing to traditional methods. Results: Our proposed framework enables ultrasound visualization in AR with only $16.22\pm11.45ms$ additional latency. Navigation accuracy reached $1.23\pm 0.68mm$ in the image plane and $0.95\pm 0.70mm$ outside the image plane. Remarkably, the utilization of our system led to $98\%$ and $95\%$ success rate in out-of-plane and in-plane biopsy. Conclusion: To sum up, this paper introduces an AR-based ultrasound biopsy navigation system characterized by high navigation accuracy and minimal latency. The system provides distinct visualization contents during in-plane and out-of-plane operations according to their different characteristics. Use case study in this paper proved that our system can help young surgeons perform biopsy faster and more accurately.

Image generation using generative AI is rapidly becoming a major new source of visual media, with billions of AI generated images created using diffusion models such as Stable Diffusion and Midjourney over the last few years. In this paper we collect and analyse over 3 million prompts and the images they generate. Using natural language processing, topic analysis and visualisation methods we aim to understand collectively how people are using text prompts, the impact of these systems on artists, and more broadly on the visual cultures they promote. Our study shows that prompting focuses largely on surface aesthetics, reinforcing cultural norms, popular conventional representations and imagery. Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown extraordinary capabilities in understanding and generating text that closely mirrors human communication. However, a primary limitation lies in the significant computational demands during training, arising from their extensive parameterization. This challenge is further intensified by the dynamic nature of the world, necessitating frequent updates to LLMs to correct outdated information or integrate new knowledge, thereby ensuring their continued relevance. Note that many applications demand continual model adjustments post-training to address deficiencies or undesirable behaviors. There is an increasing interest in efficient, lightweight methods for on-the-fly model modifications. To this end, recent years have seen a burgeoning in the techniques of knowledge editing for LLMs, which aim to efficiently modify LLMs' behaviors within specific domains while preserving overall performance across various inputs. In this paper, we first define the knowledge editing problem and then provide a comprehensive review of cutting-edge approaches. Drawing inspiration from educational and cognitive research theories, we propose a unified categorization criterion that classifies knowledge editing methods into three groups: resorting to external knowledge, merging knowledge into the model, and editing intrinsic knowledge. Furthermore, we introduce a new benchmark, KnowEdit, for a comprehensive empirical evaluation of representative knowledge editing approaches. Viewing omnidirectional images (ODIs) in virtual reality (VR) represents a novel form of media that provides immersive experiences for users to navigate and interact with digital content. Nonetheless, this sense of immersion can be greatly compromised by a blur effect that masks details and hampers the user's ability to engage with objects of interest. In this paper, we present a novel system, called OmniVR, designed to enhance visual clarity during VR navigation. Our system enables users to effortlessly locate and zoom in on the objects of interest in VR. It captures user commands for navigation and zoom, converting these inputs into parameters for the Mobius transformation matrix. Leveraging these parameters, the ODI is refined using a learning-based algorithm. The resultant ODI is presented within the VR media, effectively reducing blur and increasing user engagement. To verify the effectiveness of our system, we first evaluate our algorithm with state-of-the-art methods on public datasets, which achieves the best performance. Furthermore, we undertake a comprehensive user study to evaluate viewer experiences across diverse scenarios and to gather their qualitative feedback from multiple perspectives. The outcomes reveal that our system enhances user engagement by improving the viewers' recognition, reducing discomfort, and improving the overall immersive experience. Temporal 3D human pose estimation from monocular videos is a challenging task in human-centered computer vision due to the depth ambiguity of 2D-to-3D lifting. To improve accuracy and address occlusion issues, inertial sensor has been introduced to provide complementary source of information. However, it remains challenging to integrate heterogeneous sensor data for producing physically rational 3D human poses. In this paper, we propose a novel framework, Real-time Optimization and Fusion (RTOF), to address this issue. We first incorporate sparse inertial orientations into a parametric human skeleton to refine 3D poses in kinematics. The poses are then optimized by energy functions built on both visual and inertial observations to reduce the temporal jitters. Our framework outputs smooth and biomechanically plausible human motion. Comprehensive experiments with ablation studies demonstrate its rationality and efficiency.
