Simple Summary: The primary risk regarding Helicobacter pylori infection is that it is associated with gastric cancer. The lack of eradication of Helicobacter pylori has led to an increase in the prevalence of gastric cancer. We examined the literature from the year 2024 related to the Helicobacter pylori/gastric cancer association. Immunological studies increased, but they did not convince in the study of this infection. Most of the examined studies address the clinical treatment of this bacterium. However, to the same extent, other studies have investigated genetically individualized treatment. If, until now, clinical treatments have not yet been able to eradicate this bacterium, we recommend genetically individualized treatment. Numerous studies have been performed on Helicobacter pylori infection because of the high death rate linked to this illness and gastric cancer. An update on the key developments in recent years in the investigation of Helicobacter pylori and gastric cancer is the goal of this review. Using the search term "Helicobacter pylori, gastric cancer", the PubMed database was searched. Only papers published in 2024 fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Because case report papers were not part of our investigation, they satisfied the exclusion criteria. Most of the research on the variable genes of Helicobacter pylori is guided by genetics to determine potential treatments. Studies on clinical treatments for the eradication of H. pylori with promising therapeutic options are needed. Waterborne bacteria cause many dangerous diseases as well as several health‐related issues hence detection of them is a global challenge today. A plus‐shaped graphene sensor to detect waterborne bacteria is presented in this paper. The detection mechanism is based upon the refractive index difference between waterborne bacteria sample and pure water which causes a change in resonance peak in the transmittance graph. The use of graphene material increases the sensitivity and also gives the tuning behavior by changing its potential. The effect of various parameters such as sensitivity (S), Q factor, figure of merit (FOM), and detection limit are discussed in the paper. The maximum values Q factor and FOM are 13.46 and 4.03 RIU−1 respectively. The minimum detection limit is 0.277 RIU. The proposed sensor exhibits the highest sensitivity of 255 GHz/RIU at the optimum condition which is comparably higher than previously published papers on biosensors. One of the modern, recently developed mathematical approaches for modeling various complex chaotic processes (the bacteria migration is apparently one of them), is the application of fractional differential equations. Introduction of fractional derivatives is also a very effective approach for investigation of the reactive processes (growth of bacteria in our case). Our recent advances in application of fractional differential equations for modeling the anomalous transport of reactive and non-reactive contaminants (see our recent publications in the References) allow us to expect that the anomalous transport of growing bacteria can also be effectively described by the models with fractional derivatives. Based on these modern approaches, utilizing fractional differential equations, in this paper we developed a reliable mathematical model that could be properly calibrated and, consequently, provide an adequate description of the growing bacteria transport. This model accounts for the memory effects in the bacteria transport due to the random character of bacteria trapping and release by the porous matrix. Two types of bacteria in the saturated porous medium are considered: mobile and immobile bacteria. Bacteria in the mobile phase are migrating in the fluid and have the velocity of the bulk flow, whereas bacteria in the immobile phase are the bacteria that are captured by the porous matrix. These bacteria have zero velocity and can cause clogging of some pores (therefore, porosity is possibly not constant). Examining different conventional models and comparing computations based on these models, we show that this extremely complex character of bacteria transport cannot be described by the traditional approach based on classical partial differential equations. In this paper we suggest fractional differential equations as a simple but very effective tool that can be used for constructing the proper model capable of simulating all the above-mentioned effects associated with migration of alive bacteria. Using this approach, a reliable model of the growing bacteria transport in the porous medium is developed and validated by comparison with experimental laboratory results. We proved that this novel model can be properly linearized and calibrated, so that an excellent agreement with available experimental results can be achieved. This simple model can be used in many applications, for example, as a part of more general mathematical models for predicting the outcomes of the bioremediation of contaminated soils. Among the mechanisms involved, the nucleotide‐binding oligomerization domain, leucine‐rich repeat‐containing proteins family member NLRP3 (NLR family pyrin domain‐containing 3), proposed as the key regulator of macrophage‐induced inflammation, is strongly associated with periodontal disease due to the bacterial activators. This paper aimed to present key general concepts of NLRP3 inflammasome activation and regulation in periodontal disease.A narrative review was conducted in order to depict the current knowledge on the relationship between NLRP3 inflammasome activity and periodontal disease. In vitro and in situ studies were retrieved and commented based on their relevance in the field.The NLRP3 inflammasome activity stimulated by periodontal microbiota drive periodontal disease pathogenesis and progression. This occurs through the release of proinflammatory cytokines IL‐1β, IL‐18, and DAMPs (damage‐associated molecular pattern molecules) following inflammasome activation. Currently, there are many different therapies available for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including engineered live bacterial therapeutics. However, most of these studies focus on producing a single therapeutic drug using individual bacteria, which may cause inefficacy. The use of dual drugs can enhance therapeutic effects. However, expressing multiple therapeutic drugs in one bacterial chassis increases the burden on the bacterium and hinders good secretion and expression. Therefore, a dual-bacterial, dual-drug expression system allows for the introduction of two probiotic chassis and enhances both therapeutic and probiotic effects. In this study, we constructed a dual bacterial system to simultaneously neutralize pro-inflammatory factors and enhance the anti-inflammatory pathway. These bacteria for therapy consist of Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 that expressed and secreted anti-TNF-α nanobody and IL-10, respectively. The oral administration of genetically engineered bacteria led to a decrease in inflammatory cell infiltration in colon and a reduction in the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Additionally, the administration of engineered bacteria did not markedly aggravate gut fibrosis and had a moderating effect on intestinal microbes. This system proposes a dual-engineered bacterial drug combination treatment therapy for inflammatory bowel disease, which provides a new approach to intervene and treat IBD. Burn wound regeneration is a complex process, which has many serious challenges such as slow wound healing, secondary infection, and inflammation. Therefore, it is essential to utilise appropriate biomaterials to accelerate and guide the wound healing process. Bacterial cellulose (BC), a natural polymer synthesised by some bacteria, has attracted much attention for wound healing applications due to its unique properties including excellent physicochemical and mechanical properties, simple purification process, three‐dimensional (3D) network structure similar to extracellular matrix, high purity, high water holding capacity and significant permeability to gas and liquid. BC's lack of antibacterial activity significantly limits its biomedical and tissue engineering application, but adding antimicrobial agents to it remarkably improves its performance in tissue regeneration applications. Burn wound healing is a complex long‐lasting process. Using biomaterials in wound treatment has shown that they can satisfactorily accelerate wound healing. The purpose of this review is to elaborate on the importance of BC‐based structures as one of the most widely used modern wound dressings in the treatment of burn wounds. In addition, the combination of various drugs, agents, cells and biomolecules with BC to expand its application in burn injury regeneration is discussed. Finally, the main challenges and future development direction of BC‐based structures for burn wound repair are considered. The four most popular search engines PubMed/MEDLINE, Science Direct, Scopus and Google Scholar were used to help us find relevant papers. In this paper, we mainly investigate the dynamics of traveling wavefronts for a model describing host tissue degradation by bacteria. We first establish the existence of spreading speed, and show that the spreading speed coincides with the minimal wave speed of traveling wavefronts. Moreover, a lower bound estimate of the spreading speed is given. Then, we prove that the traveling wavefronts with large speeds are globally exponentially stable, when the initial perturbation around the traveling wavefronts decays exponentially as x → − ∞ , but the initial perturbation can be arbitrarily large in other locations. Antimicrobials or antibiotics were the important revelations of the last century, however, it came along with a silent curse that people care less to talk about. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) which emerged alongside antibiotics in the last century has been a significant concern for scientists and policymakers. Since their discovery, it has been noted that the widespread use of antibiotics is the primary cause of bacteria developing antimicrobial drug resistance. Despite the recognition of this issue, it is challenging to curtail the widespread use of antibiotics because they are essential for treating various infections. Paradoxically, the necessity of using these drugs becomes an inadvertent advantage for bacteria to evolve resistance mechanisms. This dilemma creates a seeming stalemate in our battle against these tiny microorganisms. Delaying action could have dire consequences, potentially leading to the emergence of stronger superbugs that pose a serious threat to the entire human population. The recent COVID-19 pandemic serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact a small microbe can have on global health. This paper delves into the mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance in bacteria, the evolution of superbugs and the innovative techniques employed by scientists to combat these challenges. Spirulina species are photosynthetic and filamentous bacteria, commonly called 'blue-green microalgae'. Spirulina has a high nutrient content. It contains 60–70% protein with all essential amino acids present, and is rich in several vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds. Spirulina is also rich in essential fatty acids, and antioxidants. This rich nutritional content provides to Spirulina several health benefits including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulation, and insulin-sensitizing properties as well as positive effects in various diseases which could be also interesting for athletes. This paper mainly aims to review the interest and effects of Spirulina supplementation in athletes at rest, and in relation to exercise/training. Spirulina's biochemical composition, health properties/effects in humans, and effects in athletes including nutritional status, body composition, physical performance and intense exercise-related disorders were discussed in this review. Literature data showed that Spirulina seems to have positive effects on body composition especially in overweight and obese subjects which could not be the case in other pathologies and athletes. Spirulina appears to be also effective in improving aerobic fitness especially in untrained and moderately trained subjects. Results reported in the literature suggest that Spirulina may improve strength and power performance despite the minor or no significant effects in highly trained subjects. Most studies have shown that Spirulina improves antioxidant status, prevents and accelerates the recovery of exercise-induced lipid peroxidation, muscle damage and inflammation in trained and untrained subjects. Taken together, the results from these studies are encouraging and may demonstrate the potential benefits of Spirulina supplementation in athletes despite methodological differences. Every microorganism represents a biothermodynamic system, characterized by an empirical formula and thermodynamic properties of biosynthesis. Gibbs energy of biosynthesis influences the multiplication rate of a microorganism. In case of a mixed culture (microbial consortia) biosynthesis processes of microbial species are competitive. This is why Gibbs energy of biosynthesis determines the growth in a mixed culture. This paper gives a mechanistic model that explains growth of microorganisms in mixed culture and ability to grow in microbial consortia. Detailed biosynthesis reactions were formulated for the first time for five microorganism species, which include metallic elements. The paper deals with the fossil cyanobacterial films from the Lower Proterozoic (Livvian) shungite in Karelia, Russia. The films were previously described as a formal species Cyathotes nigoserica Makarikhin. They were formed by bacteria and possibly by fungi, which inhabited the littoral or supralittoral (the tidal zone). These organisms were adapted to the existence in temporally (possibly, long-lasting) dry conditions, which is proved by the development of dense coatings protecting their bodies from dehydration. This basically bacterial community influenced intensely the mineral substrate, changed its structure, and enriched it with biogenic constituents, thus forming an archaic soil microprofile. The research revealed the following signs of ancient soil formation: surface transformation of the mineral substrate texture by the vital activity of terrestrial organisms (bacteria, fungi) with the formation of a specific cellular topographic pattern,; changes in the internal structure of the substrate and the appearance of wedge-shaped fracture casts in the underlying matrix; redistribution of inorganic compounds during the formation of a paleosurface microprofile (the increasing content of silicon oxide in the upper part with a simultaneous reduction in the amount of iron oxides). Although not as well studied as the bacterial component of the human microbiota, the commensal fungi or mycobiota play important roles in maintaining our health by augmenting our immune system. This mycobiota is also associated with various fatal diseases like opportunistic mycoses, and even cancer, with different cancers having respective type-specific mycobiota. The different fungal species which comprise these different intratumoral mycobiota play important roles in cancer progression. The aim of this review paper is to decipher the association between mycobiota and cancer, and shed light on new avenues in cancer diagnosis, and the development of new anti-cancer therapeutics. Nowadays, emerging pollutants are widely used and exist in wastewater, such as antibiotics, heavy metals, nanoparticle and microplastic. As a green alternative for wastewater treatment, microalgal-bacterial symbiosis has been aware of owning multiple merits of low energy consumption and little greenhouse gas emission. Thus, the responses of microalgal-bacterial symbiosis to emerging pollutants in wastewater treatment have become a hotspot in recent years. In this review paper, the removal performance of microalgal-bacterial symbiosis on organics, nitrogen and phosphorus in wastewater containing emerging pollutants has been summarized. The adaptation mechanisms of microalgal-bacterial symbiosis to emerging pollutants have been analyzed. It is found that antibiotics usually have hormesis effects on microalgal-bacterial symbiosis, and that microalgal-bacterial symbiosis appears to show more capacity to remove tetracycline and sulfamethoxazole, rather than oxytetracycline and enrofloxacin. Generally, microalgal-bacterial symbiosis can adapt to heavy metals at a concentration of less than 1 mg/L, but its capabilities to remove contaminants can be significantly affected at 10 mg/L heavy metals. Further research should focus on the influence of mixed emerging pollutants on microalgal-bacterial symbiosis, and the feasibility of using selected emerging pollutants (e.g., antibiotics) as a carbon source for microalgal-bacterial symbiosis should also be explored. Bio‐inspired and biodegradable quantum optics scenarios constitute a pathway toward environmentally friendly front‐end technologies. Such an inspiring perspective necessitates the replacement of classic gain materials with a biological counterpart like photoluminescent bacteria. It is easy to imagine that, in this case, a planar and cell‐viable substitute of classic bulk solid‐states resonators can be highly beneficial. In this paper a micro‐ and nano‐photonic structuration of both a standard and a functionalized version of a typical bacterial growth medium (Luria‐Bertani Agar – LBA) is successfully realized. Three structures belonging to the categories of photonic crystals are replicated, such as quasi‐crystals and meta‐surfaces, demonstrating how the proposed media can be used as templates for high‐end photonic applications. The optical quality of the replicated structures is confirmed by far‐field diffraction measurements. The structured growth media allow for a broad control of the surface wettability by accessing a so‐called Wenzel state, in which the original hydrophilicity of a material is increased due to the photonic structuration. Finally, the suitability of the nano‐structured LBA as a plasmonic platform is evidenced. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are genotoxic, carcinogenic, and persistent in the environment and are therefore of great concern in the environmental protection field. Due to the inherent recalcitrance, persistence and nonreactivity of PAHs, they are difficult to remediate via traditional water treatment methods. In recent years, microbial remediation has been widely used as an economical and environmentally friendly degradation technology for the treatment of PAH-contaminated water. Various bacterial and microalgal strains are capable of potentially degrading or transforming PAHs through intrinsic metabolic pathways. However, their biodegradation potential is limited by the cytotoxic effects of petroleum hydrocarbons, unfavourable environmental conditions, and biometabolic limitations. To address this limitation, microbial communities, biochemical pathways, enzyme systems, gene organization, and genetic regulation related to PAH degradation have been intensively investigated. The advantages of algal–bacterial cocultivation have been explored, and the limitations of PAHs degradation by monocultures of algae or bacteria have been overcome by algal–bacterial interactions. Therefore, a new model consisting of a “microalgal–bacterial consortium” is becoming a new management strategy for the effective degradation and removal of PAHs. This review first describes PAH pollution control technologies (physical remediation, chemical remediation, bioremediation, etc.) and proposes an algal–bacterial symbiotic system for the degradation of PAHs by analysing the advantages, disadvantages, and PAH degradation performance in this system to fill existing research gaps. Additionally, an algal–bacterial system is systematically developed, and the effects of environmental conditions are explored to optimize the degradation process and improve its technical feasibility. This paper continues the studies on the role of bacteria in the environment of summer truffle (Tuber aestivum), focusing on ascomata at three sites in the Nida Basin (southern Poland). Bacterial taxa and the number of OTU sequences identified were determined based on analysis of peridium and gleba collected in 2017 and 2018. The aim of the presented work is to learn the structure of bacterial communities associated with the ascomata of the summer truffle T. aestivum forming in specific stands in south Poland and fine roots of surrounding trees. Sanger DNA sequencing, and next-generation sequencing (NGS) were used. NGS sequencing platforms short-read (300 bases) was selected, using a MiSeq Illumina. The Kruskall-Wallis test was used for alpha diversity analysis and the PERMANOVA test for beta diversity. Alpha and beta biodiversity analyzes were performed using various indices (Chao1, Simpson, Shannon, Faith's phylogenetic, observed OTUs, Heip's evenness measure - alpha diversity; UniFrac, Jaccard, Bray–Curtis - beta diversity). The Sanger method identified six bacterial taxa that were dominant in the community: Bacillus (86.7 %), Pseudomonas (51.5 %), Stenotrophomonas (15.5 %), Paenibacillus (7.9 %), Rhizobium (7.3 %), and Chryseobacterium (8.5 %). In contrast, NGS results showed the dominance (at OTUs >10,000) of taxa: Bradyrhizobiaceae, Sphingobacteriaceae, Micrococcaceae, Yersiniaceae, Sphingomonadaceae, Rhizobiaceae, Flavobacteriaceae, and Comamonadaceae. The PERMANOVA test for the Bray-Curtis and Jaccard indices showed dissimilarities between samples from two of the sites with respect to beta diversity. Significant differences were found in the bacterial communities colonizing the ascomata of T. aestivum and in the root communities with T. aestivum ectomycorrhizae the purpose of this study. Biological antagonists serve as the most important green alternatives to chemical fungicides, a class of microorganism that inhibits the growth of pathogenic fungi to reduce fruit incidence. In this paper, healthy and diseased peach fruit was selected for amplicon sequencing of the epiphytic microbiota on their surface to obtain a comprehensive understanding. Community structure, diversity and LefSe analysis were performed to screen Acetobacter , Muribaculaceae and Burkholderia as the core bacteria, Mycosphaerella , Penicillium and Alternaria as the core fungi, they showed significant differences and were highly enriched. Two strains fungi (Penicillium K3 and N1) and one strain antagonistic bacteria (Burkholderia J2) were isolated. The in intro test results indicated the bacterial suspension, fermentation broth and volatile organic compounds of antagonistic bacteria J2 were able to significantly inhibit pathogen growth. In vivo experiments, peach was stored at 28 °C for 6 days after different treatments, and samples were taken every day. It was found that Burkholderia J2 enhanced peach resistance by increasing the activities of antioxidant-related enzymes such as SOD, POD, PAL, PPO, GR, MDHAR, and DHAR. The results improved that Burkholderia J2 has great biocontrol potential and could be used as a candidate strain for green control of blue mold. We cover three major aspects: the development of engineered bacteria, their integration with other therapeutic techniques, and the current state of clinical trials. Drug-resistant bacteria is highly infectious and has been appearing in food in recent years threatening human health. Therefore, effective detection of drug-resistant bacteria is crucial. In this paper, an interference-free surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) platform was developed for the detection of extended-spectrum β-lactamase E. coil (ESBL-E. coil). 4-mercaptomethylboronic acid (4-MPBA) was used as a capture molecule for drug-resistant bacteria, and self-assembled gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) were utilized to develop a high-performance SERS analytical platform for the detection of drug-resistant bacteria. Meanwhile, in order to obtain a lower detection limit and higher precision, Ti 3 C 2 T x , modified with 4-mercaptobenzonitrile (4-MBN) and Au NPs, was used for signal enhancement and indirect detection. The SERS platform detected signals from the Raman silent region, where there was no background signal from biological sources, eliminating the interference, a detection limit was 10 CFU/mL, with a wide dynamic linear range from 10-108 CFU/mL. Meanwhile, the stability, homogeneity and reproducibility were excellent. The precise quantification capability of the SERS platform was validated by the detection of ESBL-E. coil in milk. The quantification of microbes, particularly live bacteria, is of utmost importance in assessing the quality of meat products. In the context of meat processing facilities, prompt identification and removal of contaminated carcasses or surfaces is crucial to ensuring the continuous production of safe meat for human consumption. The plate count method and other traditional detection methods are not only labour-intensive but also time-consuming taking 24–48 h. In this report, we present a novel isotachophoretic quantification method utilizing two nucleic acid stains, SYTO9 and propionic iodide, for the detection of total viable bacteria. The study employed E. coli M23 bacteria as a model organism, with an analysis time of only 30 min. The method demonstrated a limit of detection (LOD) of 184 CFU mL−1 and 14 cells mL−1 for total viable count and total cell count, respectively. Cadmium can enter water through various industrial pollutants, posing serious threats to the ecological environment and human health. This study unveiled an effective method for removing Cd2+ from water by introducing bacterioferritin, known as Candidatus Kuenenia stuttgartiensis (K.S Bfr), into engineering bacteria (EB) to facilitate metal ion removal via K.S Bfr storage. Additionally, the paper explores the mechanism behind Cd2+ removal by EB using K.S Bfr. The binding kinetics revealed that EB's Cd2+ binding capacity was significantly higher than that of wild bacteria, and Cd2+ was found to enter the protein cavity of K.S Bfr in vitro. When exposed to Cd2+ concentrations ranging from 0 to 2.5 mM, EB demonstrated a survival rate above 70 %, whereas wild bacteria's survival rate remained below 50 %. The superior Cd2+ removal capacity of EB can be attributed to the intracellular storage capacity of K.S Bfr. Tandem Mass Tags quantitative proteomics analysis showed that EB mitigated cytotoxicity mainly by up-regulating the expression of binding, homeostasis, efflux, and ribosome-related proteins. K.S Bfr was identified as a major pathway for bacteria to remove Cd2+ since it provided independent storage space for Cd2+ and ensured intracellular metal ion homeostasis. Microbially induced calcium carbonate has attracted a lot of attention due to its wide range of applications. As a class of microorganisms that can produce carbonic anhydrase, Bacillus mucilaginous has been used in dust control, anti-efflorescence and self-healing concrete. However, due to the differences in the morphology and formation process of calcium carbonate in practical applications, it is difficult to distinguish the role of microbial induction. Therefore, this paper focuses on microbial nucleation under different calcium source conditions, in particular by examining the cells and extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) separately. The results indicate that both cell and extracellular polymers can be used as nucleation sites, and the negative electrical properties of the cell wall and extracellular polymers will have an electrostatic attraction for calcium ions. Cells are deeply involved in crystal formation and induce the development of spherical crystals, especially when the calcium ion concentration in the environment remains consistently low. While the rate of crystal deposition is too fast, the cells are massively adsorbed to the surface instead of providing nucleation. In contrast, EPS has no drastic effect on morphology and crystal form, and organic acids competed with microbial induction. This study may provide useful evidence for the further recognition and identification of biogenic carbonate precipitation. Molecular imprinting has advanced towards synthesizing whole-cell imprints of microorganisms such as bacteria on various sensor surfaces including wire electrodes, quartz crystal microbalances, and microparticles (MPs). We recently introduced cell-imprinted polymers (CIPs) coated on MPs, called CIP-MPs, for bacteria recovery from water. In this paper, we have advanced towards rapid fluorometric Escherichia coli (E. coli) detection by applying fluorescent magnetic CIP-MPs, which were captured by soft ferromagnetic microstructures integrated into a microfluidic channel. The shape of ferromagnetic microstructures was optimized numerically to enhance the magnetophoretic accumulation of CIP-MPs in the microchannel. The device was then fabricated and the flow rate required to enhance bacteria capturing efficiency by CIP-MPs was determined. Decreasing the flow rate reduced the flow-induced drag and increased the interactions between the bacteria and imprinted CIP cavities. Fluorescent imaging of the accumulated CIP-MPs was done before and after bacteria capturing to quantify the changes in the fluorescence intensity as E. coli cells were captured by CIP-MPs in the microchannel. The dose-response curve of the sensor at 0–109 CFU/mL bacterial counts was obtained. Using the 3- and 10-sigma methods on the dose-response curve, the limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) of the sensor were determined to be 4 × 102 and 3 × 103 CFU/mL, respectively, within a dynamic range of 102–107 CFU/mL. Lastly, the specificity of the CIP-MPbased sensor towards E. coli was tested and confirmed using Sarcina as a non-specific target bacterium. In summary, our developed sensor offers a promising approach for rapid and low-cost detection of bacteria in water and is suitable for development of portable and durable all-polymeric sensors for point-of-need detection.
