Differential Evolution (DE) is widely recognized as a highly effective evolutionary algorithm for global optimization. It has proven its efficacy in tackling diverse problems across various fields and real-world applications. DE boasts several advantages, such as ease of implementation, reliability, speed, and adaptability. However, DE does have certain limitations, such as suboptimal solution exploitation and challenging parameter tuning. To address these challenges, this research paper introduces a novel algorithm called Enhanced Binary JADE (EBJADE), which combines differential evolution with multi-population and elites regeneration. The primary innovation of this paper lies in the introduction of strategy with enhanced exploitation capabilities. This strategy is based on utilizing the sorting of three vectors from the current generation to perturb the target vector. By introducing directional differences, guiding the search towards improved solutions. Additionally, this study adopts a multi-population method with a rewarding subpopulation to dynamically adjust the allocation of two different mutation strategies. Finally, the paper incorporates the sampling concept of elite individuals from the Estimation of Distribution Algorithm (EDA) to regenerate new solutions through the selection process in DE. This paper proposes the Love Evolution Algorithm (LEA), a novel evolutionary algorithm inspired by the stimulus–value–role theory. The optimization process of the LEA includes three phases: stimulus, value, and role. Both partners evolve through these phases and benefit from them regardless of the outcome of the relationship. This inspiration is abstracted into mathematical models for global optimization. The efficiency of the LEA is validated through numerical experiments with CEC2017 benchmark functions, outperforming seven metaheuristic algorithms as evidenced by the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and the Friedman test. Further tests using the CEC2022 benchmark functions confirm the competitiveness of the LEA compared to seven state-of-the-art metaheuristics. Lastly, the study extends to real-world problems, demonstrating the performance of the LEA across eight diverse engineering problems. Dynamic linear functions on the boolean hypercube are functions which assign to each bit a positive weight, but the weights change over time. Throughout optimization, these functions maintain the same global optimum, and never have defecting local optima. Nevertheless, it was recently shown [Lengler, Schaller, FOCI 2019] that the (1 + 1) -Evolutionary Algorithm needs exponential time to find or approximate the optimum for some algorithm configurations. In this experimental paper, we study the effect of larger population sizes for dynamic binval, the extreme form of dynamic linear functions. We find that moderately increased population sizes extend the range of efficient algorithm configurations, and that crossover boosts this positive effect substantially. Remarkably, similar to the static setting of monotone functions in [Lengler, Zou, FOGA 2019], the hardest region of optimization for (μ + 1) -EA is not close the optimum, but far away from it. There are a lot of multi-objective optimization problems (MOPs) in the real world, and many multi-objective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs) have been presented to solve MOPs. However, obtaining non-dominated solutions that trade off convergence and diversity remains a major challenge for a MOEA. To solve this problem, this paper designs an efficient multi-objective sine cosine algorithm based on a competitive mechanism (CMOSCA). In the CMOSCA, the ranking relies on non-dominated sorting, and the crowding distance rank is utilized to choose the outstanding agents, which are employed to guide the evolution of the SCA. Furthermore, a competitive mechanism stemming from the shift-based density estimation approach is adopted to devise a new position updating operator for creating offspring agents. In each competition, two agents are randomly selected from the outstanding agents, and the winner of the competition is integrated into the position update scheme of the SCA. The performance of our proposed CMOSCA was first verified on three benchmark suites (i.e., DTLZ, WFG, and ZDT) with diversity characteristics and compared with several MOEAs. The experimental results indicated that the CMOSCA can obtain a Pareto-optimal front with better convergence and diversity. Finally, the CMOSCA was applied to deal with several engineering design problems taken from the literature, and the statistical results demonstrated that the CMOSCA is an efficient and effective approach for engineering design problems. The multi-objective evolutionary algorithm optimization (MOEA) is a challenging but critical approach for tackling complex data analysis problems. However, prevailing MOEAs often rely on single strategies to obtain optimal solutions, leading to concerns such as premature convergence and insufficient population diversity, particularly in high-dimensional data scenarios. In this paper, we propose a novel adversarial population generation algorithm, APG-SMOEA, which synergistically combines the benefits of MOEAs and Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) to address these limitations. In order to balance the efficiency and quality of offspring selection, we introduce an adaptive population entropy strategy, which includes control parameters based on population entropy and a learning pool for storing and retrieving optimal solutions. Additionally, we attempt to alleviate the training complexity and model collapse problems common in GANs with APG-SMOEA. Experimental results on benchmarks demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is superior to the existing algorithms in terms of solution quality and diversity of low-dimensional or high-dimensional complex data. The Pareto dominance-based evolutionary algorithms can effectively address multiobjective optimization problems (MOPs). However, when dealing with many-objective optimization problems with more than three objectives (MaOPs), the Pareto dominance relationships cannot effectively distinguish the nondominated solutions in high-dimensional spaces. With the increase of the number of objectives, the proportion of dominance-resistant solutions (DRSs) in the population rapidly increases, which leads to insufficient selection pressure. In this paper, to address the challenges on MaOPs, a knee point-driven many-objective evolutionary algorithm with adaptive switching mechanism (KPEA) is proposed. In KPEA, the knee points determined by an adaptive strategy are introduced for not only mating selection but also environmental selection, which increases the probability of generating excellent offspring. In addition, to remove dominance-resistant solutions (DRSs) in the population, an interquartile range method is adopted, which enhances the selection pressure. Moreover, a novel adaptive switching mechanism between angle-based selection and penalty for selecting solutions is proposed, which is aimed at achieving a balance between convergence and diversity. To validate the performance of KPEA, it is compared with five state-of-the-art many-objective evolutionary algorithms. All algorithms are evaluated on 20 benchmark problems, i.e., WFG1-9, MaF1, and MaF4-13 with 3, 5, 8, and 10 objectives. This study achieved the goal of guiding bed design and optimization by conducting multi-objective optimization research on the performance of CNC lathe beds. In this study, Morris analysis was first performed on the sensitivity of the parameters, and then out to optimize the parameters using a combination of neural network and genetic algorithm. The loss function value, RMSE error accumulation, recall, sensitivity and specificity of the ASSGA-BP optimization model were better. The maximum error between the predicted and true values of the ASSGA-BP model was 0.28 mm. In the performance study of the multi-objective optimization method based on the Morris sensitivity analysis and the improved GA algorithm, the average MAE value is 0.91 %. The average RMSE value is 0.59 %. Also, the new model is significantly better than the NSGA-II, EGA, and FGA algorithms in terms of both the number of final non-dominated solutions and the speed of reaching convergence. The above results demonstrate that the model proposed in this study has high performance, can achieve faster convergence and has the best stability of the convergence state. The innovation of this article lies in the use of the Morris method to screen and evaluate numerous parameters in order to improve the accuracy of the calculation results and ensure the effectiveness of the optimization results. The improved algorithm overcomes the problems of BP neural network and can effectively improve the generalization performance of the neural network, thereby improving the prediction accuracy of the model. Many-objective optimization problems (MaOPs) are challenging tasks involving optimizing many conflicting objectives simultaneously. Decomposition-based many-objective evolutionary algorithms have effectively maintained a balance between convergence and diversity in recent years. However, these algorithms face challenges in accurately approximating the complex geometric structure of irregular Pareto fronts (PFs). In this paper, an information entropy-driven evolutionary algorithm based on reinforcement learning (RL-RVEA) for many-objective optimization with irregular Pareto fronts is proposed. The proposed algorithm leverages reinforcement learning to guide the evolution process by interacting with the environment to learn the shape and features of PF, which adaptively adjusts the distribution of reference vectors to cover the PFs structure effectively. Moreover, an information entropy-driven adaptive scalarization approach is designed in this paper to reflect the diversity of nondominated solutions, which facilitates the algorithm to balance multiple competing objectives adaptively and select solutions efficiently while maintaining individual diversity. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, the RL-RVEA compared with seven state-of-the-art algorithms on the DTLZ, MaF, and WFG test suites and four real-world MaOPs. In this paper, a multi-operator differential evolution algorithm (MODE) is proposed to solve the Optimal Power Flow problem, called MODE-OPF. The MODE-OPF utilizes the strengths of more than one differential evolution operator in a single algorithmic framework. Additionally, an adaptive method is proposed to update the number of solutions evolved by each DE operator based on both the diversity of the population and the quality of solutions. This adaptive method has the ability to maintain diversity at the early stages of the optimization process and boost convergence at the later ones. The performance of the proposed MODE-OPF is tested by solving OPF problems for both small and large IEEE bus systems (i.e., IEEE-30 and IEEE-118) while considering intermittent solar and wind power generation. To prove the suitability of this proposed algorithm, its performance has been compared against several state-of-the-art optimization algorithms, where MODE-OPF outperforms other algorithms in all experimental results thereby improving a network's performance with lower cost. This paper introduces a novel surrogate-assisted multi-objective nutcracker optimization algorithm. This algorithm is built upon the recently proposed nutcracker optimization algorithm, drawing inspiration from the behaviours observed in Clark's nutcrackers. The algorithm is developed based on two distinct behaviours exhibited by these birds. To comprehensively evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, a dual-pronged approach is adopted. On the one hand, a set of artificial test problems is employed to scrutinize the algorithm's capabilities, while on the other hand, a set of real-world problems is considered to assess its practical efficacy. The results of the proposed algorithm are evaluated in comparison to existing baseline algorithms and state-of-the-art algorithms, using well-recognized performance metrics, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Combinatorial optimization problems (COPs) play an important role in both industrial production and theoretical research. As a classical class of optimization algorithms, evolutionary algorithms have shown good performance in COPs. However, as the size of the problem increases, it becomes difficult for evolutionary algorithms to produce satisfactory solutions within the specified time. In recent years, neural network algorithms have been applied to solve COPs and have shown superior effects. Inspired by this, this paper proposes a new algorithm based on graph structure for solving COPs. Through relaxation, COPs are transformed into their corresponding continuous optimization problems. The output state of our algorithm is converted to a discrete solution by approximation method. Compared with previous algorithms, our algorithm can not only solve COPs with general form such as binary quadratic programming (BQP), but also solve COPs with special form, which greatly expands the application scope of neural network algorithms. In addition, our algorithm can be embedded into other problem frameworks such as solving multi-objective combinatorial optimization problem (MOCOP) through scalarization method. A new penalty function is added to the objective function, which enables our algorithm to overcome the inconsistency between the optimal solution of the original problem and the corresponding continuous problem, so that our algorithm can perform well on various problems. Several numerical simulations are used to illustrate the effectiveness of our algorithm in solving COPs. The differential evolution (DE) algorithm is widely regarded as one of the most influential evolutionary algorithms for addressing complex optimization problems. However, the fixed mutation strategy limits the adaptive ability of DE, and the lack of utilization of historical information limits the optimization ability of DE. In this paper, an indicator-based self-learning differential evolution algorithm (ISDE) is proposed. A jump out mechanism based on deep reinforcement learning is adopted to control the mutation intensity of the population. The neural network in the jump out mechanism is designed as a decision maker. The mutation intensity of the population is controlled by the neural network, and the neural network are trained by a double deep Q network algorithm based on the continuous data generated during the evolution process. A population range indicator (PRI) is utilized to describe individual differences in the population. A diversity maintenance mechanism is designed to maintain individual differences according to the value of PRI. Prediction-based dynamic multiobjective optimization evolutionary algorithms have become one of the mainstream methods for solving dynamic multiobjective optimization problems. However, the unknown nonlinear relationships in sequential environments bring great challenge to the construction of prediction model and the inevitable error between the historical obtained solutions and the real pareto-optimal solutions troubles the prediction accuracy. In this paper, a gradient boosting regression tree based dynamic multiobjective optimization evolutionary algorithm is proposed, called MOEA/D-XGB. The time series solutions formed by subspace decomposition are trained in the XGBoost-based predictor to produce a high-quality initial population when environmental change occurs. And a novel population promotion strategy based on generalized additive model is proposed to improve the quality of historical obtained solutions. The performance comparisons with five state-of-the-art algorithms have shown that MOEA/D-XGB achieves best performance in 59 out of 70 experiments on MIGD and 60 out of 70 experiments on MHV, respectively, which demonstrates that the proposed design is capable of significantly improving the performance of dynamic multiobjective optimization. The individual structure of GEP allows the codematrix to be optimized in a much faster and more effective way. • The feature selection scheme is combined with the design of codematrix, to accomplish the feature selection and codematrix optimization simultaneously. • A greedy strategy-based adaptive optimization method to further improve the individual's quality to deal with hard classes by appending proper columns to the codematrix. The multi-class classification task is one of the most common tasks in machine learning. As a typical solution based on a partitioning strategy, Error-Correcting Output Codes (ECOC) can transform a multi-class classification problem into multiple binary classification problems. The key of ECOC is to construct an effective codematrix to represent a set of class decomposition schemes, which transforms a multiclass problem into a group of binary class problems. Consequently, the design of a fast and effective ECOC codematrix generation method is of great research significance and value for solving multi-class classification problems. In ECOC algorithms, the design of codematrix is treated as a combination problem between different code columns, in which the evolutionary algorithm shows a great advantage. Based on this consideration, the Gene Expression Programming (GEP) is applied to search for the codematrix with high performance because its expressive tree structure makes it well represent codematrcies for subsequent optimization operations. This paper proposes an adaptive ECOC algorithm based on Gene Expression Programming (GEP) and similarity measurement matrix, named GEP-ECOC. In our GEP, each individual represents a set of columns to form a random ECOC codematrix, which is optimized in the evolutionary process. Meanwhile, the crossover and mutation operations are modified to include a legality checking process to ensure that the generated codematrix satisfies the ECOC constraints. The GEP-based ECOC codematrix generation algorithm can quickly produce a codematrix with better performance, which ensures the efficiency of the algorithm to a certain extent. In addition, an adaptive algorithm based on a similarity measurement matrix is proposed to add new columns to the current codematrix, aiming to better handle hard classes. Our algorithm is compared with other algorithms on various data sets, and the experimental results confirm that our GEP-ECOC can balance the efficiency and performance of the algorithm and achieve higher performance.
