South Africa has brought a case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing it of genocidal acts in the Gaza Strip. The historical resentment over Israel's support for apartheid South Africa and its role in prolonging white minority rule plays a role in South Africa's stance. South Africa is also seeking to rehabilitate its international image as a moral superpower. While the ICJ has not ruled on the genocidal behaviors alleged by South Africa, its interim finding that some of the acts alleged by South Africa could fall within the provisions of the Genocide Convention has been celebrated as a victory.
