Violence against women often stems from gender inequality, societal structures such as patriarchy, impunity, and institutional violence. Despite the remarkable progress it has made in establishing the representation of women in all fields, India still finds itself an unsafe country for women, with multiple cases of femicide reported every year. The present paper proposes a close look at violence against women in India through a multidisciplinary reading of Clea Chakravarty's novel La Voix de Sita [Sita's Voice] which is a retelling of the 2012 Delhi gang rape. Commonly known as the Nirbhaya Case, it ushered a lot of debates around women's modesty and morality, alongside controversial anti-feminist remarks by the dominant misinformed strata of society on women being responsible for crimes done against them and the branding of feminism as anti-national. By approaching the revisionist mythmaking of Indian epics in the novel through a feminist lens, the paper also traces the root cause of violence against women in India by analysing media reports, interviews, and anecdotes focused on the case. This paper delves into the sociocultural landscape portrayed in Chetan Bhagat's novel Five Point Someone to provide insights into the youth culture of metropolitan India. The narrative explores the lives of three protagonists as they navigate the demanding academic environment of an elite engineering institute in Delhi. Through a sociocultural lens, we examine how these characters grapple with societal expectations, peer pressure, and the impact of a rigid educational system on their identities and aspirations. The analysis focuses on key themes such as identity formation, rebellion against tradition, and the clash between individual desires and societal norms. We also investigate the characters' responses to familial pressures, the pursuit of personal goals, and the challenges they face while striving for academic success. This examination of Five Point Someone offers a deeper understanding of the sociocultural dynamics that shape the lives of metropolitan youth in contemporary India. The Yamuna River in India and the Mississippi River in the United States hold significant commercial, cultural, and ecological importance. This preliminary survey compares the bacterial communities sampled in surface waters at 11 sites (Yamuna headwaters, Mississippi headwaters, Yamuna River Yamunotri Town, Mississippi River at Winona, Tons River, Yamuna River at Paonta Sahib, Yamuna River Delhi-1, Yamuna River Delhi-2, Yamuna River before Sangam, Sangam, Ganga River before Sangam). Bacterial 16S rDNA analyses demonstrate dominance of Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes phyla. Actinobacteria were also dominant at sites near Sangam in India and sites in Minnesota. A dominance of Epsilonbacteraeota were found in Delhi, India. Principal component analysis (PCA) using unique operational taxonomic units (OTUs) resulted in the identification of 3 groups that included the Yamuna River locations in Delhi (Delhi locations), Yamuna headwaters and Yamuna River at Yamunotri (Yamuna River locations below the Glacier) and Mississippi, Ganga, Tons, and other Yamuna River locations. Diversity indices were significantly higher at the Yamuna River locations below the Glacier (Simpson D = 0.986 and Shannon H = 5.06) as compared (p value <0.001) to the Delhi locations (D = 0.951 and H = 4.23) and as compared (p value < 0.001) to Mississippi, Ganga, Tons, and other Yamuna River locations (D = 0.943 and H = 3.96). To our knowledge, this is the first survey to compare Mississippi and Yamuna River bacterial communities. Humus materials are considered complex organic substances generated through a chain of chemical reactions and responsible for many processes in soil that ultimately govern soil health. The structural and functional characteristics of humus depend upon the location, quality, and microbial abundance of the soils. However, the differential characteristics of soil organic matter, seasonal changes, parent rock, plant cover, microbial abundance, and anthropogenic activities majorly affect it. The present study has aimed toward the extraction of humus from five different locations in the Delhi region of India and their characteristics were investigated through elemental analysis, Fourier Transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and UV spectroscopy. The results showed that there was a higher degree of unsaturation detected in the Forest soil sample. The results of FT-IR showed the presence of characteristic peaks of humus in the samples however the intensity of bands was weak in sample disposable site soil sample and clayey soil sample due to the variation in soil physicochemical properties. The study also aimed to assess the growth of Oryza sativa (rice) plants observed in the hydroponics system. The significant finding was observed with the forest soil sample in 1000 mgL-1 and treatment in which the growth was minimum in clayey soil of 1500 mgL-1. Our investigation infers the diverse nature of humus in different soils and its implications for plant growth, highlighting the importance of understanding soil organic matter for sustainable agriculture and soil health management. Winter fog and severe aerosol loading in the boundary layer over northern India, particularly in the Indo-Gangetic Plain (IGP), disrupt the daily lives of millions of people in the region. To better understand the role of aerosol–radiation (AR) feedback on the occurrence, spatial extent, and persistence of winter fog, as well as the associated aqueous chemistry in fog in the IGP, several model simulations have been performed using the Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with Chemistry (WRF-Chem). While WRF-Chem was able to represent the fog formation for the 23–24 December 2017 fog event over the central IGP in comparison to station and satellite observations, the model underestimated PM 2.5 concentrations compared to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) of India monitoring network. While evaluating aerosol composition for fog events in the IGP, we found that the WRF-Chem aerosol composition was quite different from measurements obtained during the Winter Fog Experiment (WiFEX) in Delhi, with secondary aerosols, particularly the chloride aerosol fraction, being strongly underpredicted (∼ 66.6 %). Missing emission sources (e.g., industry and residential burning of cow dung and trash) and aerosol and chemistry processes need to be investigated to improve model–observation agreement. By investigating a fog event on 23–24 December 2017 over the central IGP, we found that the aerosol–radiation feedback weakens turbulence, lowers the boundary layer height, and increases PM 2.5 concentrations and relative humidity (RH) within the boundary layer. Factors affecting the feedback include loss of aerosols through deposition of cloud droplets and internal mixing of absorbing and scattering aerosols. Aqueous-phase chemistry increases the PM 2.5 concentrations, which subsequently affect the aerosol–radiation feedback by both increased mass concentrations and aerosol sizes. With aerosol–radiation interaction and aqueous-phase chemistry, fog formation began 1–2 h earlier and caused a longer fog duration than when these processes were not included in the WRF-Chem simulation. The increase in RH in both experiments was found to be important for fog formation as it promoted the growth of aerosol size through water uptake, increasing the fog water content over the IGP. The results from this study suggest that the aerosol–radiation feedback and secondary aerosol formation play an important role in the air quality and the intensity and lifetime of fog over the IGP, yet other feedbacks, such as aerosol–cloud interactions, need to be quantified. The efforts to encourage sustainable development have brought to attention the use of secondary materials in civil engineering applications. Global experimental data suggest that municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration bottom ash (IBA) can potentially replace natural aggregates in field applications. However, IBA is currently disposed in open dumps or sanitary landfills in India. Assessing contaminant leaching from IBA is crucial to ascertain its options for disposal or reuse. The current study analyzes the mineralogy, chemical constituents, organic content, and leaching of contaminants from IBA collected from two incineration plants in Delhi. The study takes into consideration the effect of particle size, liquid-to-solid (L/S) ratio, and pH on contaminant leaching. The experimental results revealed that the leaching concentration of contaminants and organic content of IBA decreases with an increase in particle size. A considerable influence of pH was noted on the leaching of all contaminants except chlorides, sulfates, and antimony. The results further indicate that IBA is suitable for disposal in non-hazardous waste landfills regardless of particle size at its intrinsic pH. However, it is recommended to dispose IBA in monofils as co-disposal with MSW in sanitary landfills can cause the pH of IBA to shift toward the acidic range, which may exacerbate the contaminant leaching from IBA. The comparison of leaching test results with international regulatory standards for reuse demonstrates that using IBA in unbound applications is feasible in paved roads and earthworks subjected to minimal infiltration of water. As the world struggles to cope with the pressing matters of global warming, rising temperature, and environmental degradation, the need for sustainable practices has become more urgent than ever for individuals and other establishments. Organizations across industries recognize the importance of adopting sustainable practices, not only to meet societal expectations but also to achieve long-term success. This research paper studies the influence of sustainable marketing on customer loyalty, focusing on the consumer electronics sector in India. A mixed-methods approach incorporating descriptive and causal research methods was used; with data collected from 302 participants from India's capital, Delhi and its nearby regions. Structural equation modeling was employed to establish multivariate relationships and Smart PLS 4 was used to analyze the data. The results suggest that sustainable marketing practices positively influence brand image and loyalty. Additionally, brand image acts as an intermediary between sustainable marketing and customer loyalty. We use a state-of-the-art regional chemistry transport model (WRF-Chem v4.2.1) to simulate particulate air pollution over northern India during September–November 2016. This period includes a severe air pollution episode marked by exceedingly high levels of hourly PM 2.5 (particulate matter having an aerodynamic diameter ≤ 2.5 µ m) during 30 October to 7 November, particularly over the wider Indo-Gangetic Plain (IGP). We provide a comprehensive evaluation of simulated seasonal meteorology (nudged by ERA5 reanalysis products) and aerosol chemistry (PM 2.5 and its black carbon (BC) component) using a range of ground-based, satellite and reanalysis products, with a focus on the November 2016 haze episode. We find the daily and diurnal features in simulated surface temperature show the best agreement followed by relative humidity, with the largest discrepancies being an overestimate of night-time wind speeds (up to 1.5 m s -1) confirmed by both ground and radiosonde observations. Upper-air meteorology comparisons with radiosonde observations show excellent model skill in reproducing the vertical temperature gradient (r>0.9). We evaluate modelled PM 2.5 at 20 observation sites across the IGP including eight in Delhi and compare simulated aerosol optical depth (AOD) with data from four AERONET sites. We also compare our model aerosol results with MERRA-2 reanalysis aerosol fields and MODIS satellite AOD. We find that the model captures many features of the observed aerosol distributions but tends to overestimate PM 2.5 during September (by a factor of 2) due to too much dust, and underestimate peak PM 2.5 during the severe episode. Delhi experiences some of the highest daily mean PM 2.5 concentrations within the study region, with dominant components nitrate (∼25 %), dust (∼25 %), secondary organic aerosols (∼20 %) and ammonium (∼10 %). Modelled PM 2.5 and BC spatially correlate well with MERRA-2 products across the whole domain. High AOD at 550nm across the IGP is also well predicted by the model relative to MODIS satellite (r≥0.8) and ground-based AERONET observations (r≥0.7), except during September. Overall, the model realistically captures the seasonal and spatial variations of meteorology and ambient pollution over northern India. However, the observed underestimations in pollutant concentrations likely come from a combination of underestimated emissions, too much night-time dispersion, and some missing or poorly represented aerosol chemistry processes. Nevertheless, we find the model is sufficiently accurate to be a useful tool for exploring the sources and processes that control PM 2.5 levels during severe pollution episodes. Soilless cultivation has emerged as a fundamental alternative for large-scale vegetable production because it generates high-quality yields and uses resources efficiently. While plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) are known to enhance growth and physiological aspects in crops grown in soil, their application in soilless cultivation has been relatively less explored. This study aimed to isolate potential PGPBs from soil samples collected from five locations in and around the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), India, which were further screened for significant PGPB attributes. Among these, 51 isolated were selected for assessing the impact on Oryza sativa (rice) growth and yield grown on a hydroponic set. The results indicated that isolates AFSI16 and ACSI02 significantly improved the physiological parameters of the plants. For instance, treatment with AFSI16 showed a 23.27% increase in maximum fresh shoot mass, while ACSI02 resulted in a 46.8% increase in root fresh mass. Additionally, ACSI02 exhibited the highest shoot length (34.07%), whereas AFSI16 exhibited the longest root length (46.08%) in O.sativa. Treatment with AFSI16 also led to significant increases in total protein content (4.94%) and chlorophyll content (23.44%), while ACSI02 treatment showed a 13.48% increase in maximum carotenoid content in the leaves. The potential PGPBs were identified through 16S rRNA sequencing, as the two most effective strains, AFSI16 and ACSI02, belonged to thermo-alkaliphilic Bacillus licheniformis and Burkholderia sp., respectively.
