- Abstract
Volume 2 of the handbook has been designed to supplement the material presented in Volume 1, which was concerned with basic problems associated with the Adult Basic Education (ABE) classroom. Volume 2 aims at a wider audience. Chapter 1 attempts to give a detailed description of the deprived adult learner, and considers such questions as how they are; why they are as they are; and what to do about it. Chapter 2 suggests some methods and means of increasing and improving services to the deprived. Chapters 3 and 4 present some data and arguments favoring public support of adult education. Chapter 5 considers the crucial problem of communicating and interacting with the deprived. Chapters 6 and 7 attempt to make Chapter 2 more extensive, intensive, and protensive by setting forth curriculum practices and suggesting techniques, tools, and trends in ABE. Chapter 7 indicates how the total program in adult education may be improved, unified, and made more continuous through the coordinated efforts of administrators and supervisors in the field. Finally, the appendixes, through a series of position papers, present some thought-provoking subject matter selected from a wide array of scholars considered knowledgeable in the area of adult education. 3. Designing Vocational Training Policies in an Outermost European Region: Highlights from a Participatory Process

- Abstract
This paper presents a systematic framework of the most needed Vocational Education and Training (VET) reforms in The Azores, a Portuguese outermost region. Our report is based on a participatory research approach involving the perspectives of five different groups of stakeholders. Our data was collected in 18 virtual world-café sessions (n = 164 participants--58 trainees; 21 trainers; 42 institutional representatives; 21 unemployed people registered at local public employment agencies; and 22 businesspersons; M age = 45.20; 60.37 women). Based on content analysis, we identified three main priorities to restructure vocational training policies: (a) VET perception and valorization, comprising strategies to disseminate a more positive social representation of VET in the region; (b) horizontal coordination between stakeholders, including effective ways of coordinating and sharing information; and (c) vertical coordination in terms of VET improvements of "curricula," funding models, and investments in the sector's human capital. Our correspondence analysis did not show significant differences regarding the prevalence of the three priorities across the five groups of stakeholders. We interpret and contextualize our results according to relevant publicly available data about the region, and an integrated governance lens to inform policy design in outermost territories.

Based on the contradiction between the infinite demand of trade activities and the limited nature of environmental resources, this paper explores the coordinated development path of international trade activities and ecological environment from the perspective of law and policy. The ecological environment referred to in this paper is primarily concerned with environmental factors, particularly environmental pollution. First of all, this paper analyzes the current situation of international trade and the ecological environment, and it focuses on China. On this basis, the relationship between trade activities and ecological environment and the nature of the conflict between the two are explored. This paper holds that there is a dialectical unity relationship between the two, and the essence of the conflict between the two lies in the conflict between economic interests and environmental public welfare. Secondly, this paper examines and analyzes the current policies related to international trade and environment and resources, including multilateral principles, WTO rules and regional trade agreements, and focuses on the development trend of current environmental policies and trade policies, and the formulation of relevant trade policies increasingly focuses on environmental protection. Finally, in order to strengthen the coordination between the two and achieve a win-win situation between sustainable economic development and environmental protection, this paper puts forward some feasible suggestions, such as continuously promoting the integration of trade policy and environmental policy, advocating green trade, and drawing on existing excellent experience. A coordinated control of front/rear traction, four-wheel independent braking, and an active roll control system is proposed in this paper to improve overall vehicle cornering performance. The control algorithm is structured in a hierarchical form: the supervisory controller is used to calculate the desired yaw rate and roll angle based on the driver input and vehicle states; the upper-level controller is utilized to decide the target longitudinal tire forces, yaw moment, and anti-roll moment based on the sliding mode control method; and the control allocator is used to optimally map the virtual control input to the control commands of specific actuators. Co-simulations of MATLAB/Simulink and CarSim were conducted to verify the performance enhancement of the proposed controller. The results suggest that the proposed controller can effectively enhance the driving performance in limit cornering while maintaining lateral stability, and it reduces tire usage, as indicated by the index of tire dissipation energy when compared to control methods such as AWD, AWD-ESC, and ICC. 9. Telerehabilitation-based training to improve balance confidence, falls efficacy, functional independence in individuals with stroke: a randomized controlled trial.

Background: The aim of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of telerehabilitation-based balance and coordination exercises on balance confidence, fall efficacy, and functional independence in stroke patients. Methods: A double-blind, randomized controlled trial was conducted on 30 stroke patients (15 in the telerehabilitation-based group and 15 in the paper-based control group). The telerehabilitation group received video-based exercise training, while the control group received paper-based exercise training. Fear of falling (FES-I), balance (ABC), self-management (SSEQ) and satisfaction with telemedicine (TSQ) were evaluated before and six weeks after treatment. Results: The results of the present study showed that both telerehabilitation-based video training and paperbased exercise prescription methods were effective in terms of balance confidence, fall efficiency and stroke-specific functional independence (p<0.05). Besides, telerehabilitation-based video training was more effective in balance confidence (p=0.042) and functional independence (0.018). In addition, the satisfaction of individuals in the telerehabilitation group with the telerehabilitation application was above average (59.73±8.15). Conclusion: Telerehabilitation-based video exercises in stroke patients may provide additional advantages in terms of balance confidence and fall efficiency. 11. The Perceived Influence Model of Trust: Toward a Multi-Trustee Theory.

- Abstract
Prior research investigating situations involving one trustor and multiple trustees often examines how a trustor's trust in one party affects their amount of trust in another party. This paper fills a gap by predicting the effects of trust. The Perceived Influence (PI) Model of Trust is an individual-level model focused on the perceptions of a trustor. It builds upon the Mayer et al. (1995) model by integrating insights from literature on task interdependence and expanding to two trustees. The PI model describes and explains three possibilities for how a trustor's trust in two trustees may combine to form a sense of aggregate multi-trustee trust via: (1) additive effects, such that the trustor's trust in each of the trustees has independent effects on the aggregate; (2) compulsory effects, such that increasing the amount of trust in one trustee increases the effect of trust in the other trustee; and (3) compensatory effects, such that increasing trust in one trustee decreases the effect of trust in the other trustee. We propose that the theoretical mechanism explaining which of these three possibilities takes place is the trustor's perceived influence of the trustees, which is tightly linked to perceptions of task requirements necessary to attenuate the trustor's risk. The PI model begins to fill an important gap in the literature pertaining to pervasive, but rarely considered, multi-trustee situations, and proposes the importance of trustor perceptions of trustee influence and task requirements for future models of trust. Studies on China's success in the electric vehicle industry overlook the role of regional clustering and regional electric vehicle policies in supporting sustainable production and consumption. This paper adopts a mixed-method policy inventory and analysis to examine the rise of the new energy vehicle (NEV) industry in China's Greater Bay Area. It also systematically analyses the policies implemented by the central government, province, and cities in building a sustainable regional industry. A core dilemma is that cities are competing with one another for NEV development, yet regional industrial development requires coordination and cooperation. Examining the four policy areas of production, consumption, infrastructure support, and pollution suppression reveals that the competition among cities can be a driving force for the adoption of sustainable technology when supported by regional policy coordination. In ensuring sustainable power delivery under rapid growth in demand, modern power grids are characterized by advanced solutions such as flexible alternating current transmission systems and distributed generation. However, flexible alternating current transmission systems and distributed generations are often planned by their respective system operators, ignoring their coordination and impacting system-wide performance. This paper develops a bi-level optimization approach for flexible alternating current transmission systems and distributed generation coordination in an integrated transmission and distribution network to improve available transfer capability, power losses, and voltage deviation. The approach comprises inner and outer optimization. Inner optimization implements a hybrid of particle swarm optimization and Active Power Flow Performance Index for flexible alternating current transmission systems' planning. At the same time, the outer optimization employs multi-objective particle swarm optimization, which targets distributed generation planning at the distribution network--the integrated transmission and distribution network models' both transmission and distribution section. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed approach, two models of distributed generations, only real power and real and reactive power injections, were separately coordinated with a thyristor-controlled series compensator and static synchronous series compensator. Results show superior available transfer capability enhancement with thyristor-controlled series compensator-power injectionsDG and static synchronous series compensator-power injectionsDG, compared to the non-coordinated scenario. Pareto front plots of available transfer capability, power losses, and voltage deviation are such that after some maximum available transfer capability, the slope of the Pareto approaches zero. With the penetration of distributed resources into power distribution networks, power distribution networks are transforming into active distribution networks with a high proportion of distributed generations and power electronic equipment. Efficient modeling and simulation methods are essential to perform dynamic response analysis. In order to satisfy the fast/steady/slow multiple time-scale simulation requirements of active distribution networks, a fast/medium/slow time partition model and a network decoupling method for short line characteristic lines is proposed in this paper. Through the decomposition coordination simulation method, the network is decomposed into multiple regions that can be simulated in parallel. Based on the interconnection of fiber optic network cards, a multi-rate parallel simulation and synchronization strategy is proposed, which significantly improves the simulation speed of active distribution networks while ensuring simulation accuracy. The numerical experiments have been conducted based on a modified IEEE 33-bus and a PG&E 69-bus, and simulation results show the feasibility of the proposed method. The verification results of the example show that using adaptive variable-step-size multi-rate parallel simulation technology can increase the subnet computation-time balance rate and simulation acceleration ratio to 119.90% and 121.31% in the same rate-parallel mode. 16. Digital Visions and Troublesome Realities in Health and Social Care Coordination in Norway

A publicly provided health service, accessible to all, is a key aspect of the Nordic welfare state project, but questions around its sustainability have arisen in the face of increasing demands and limited resources. Current Norwegian policy concerns coordination (samhandling) between the specialist hospital sector and municipal health and social care in order to shift routine care out of hospitals and into municipal services. Despite coordination reforms, challenges remain, and Norwegian policy has centred on digital solutions to coordination. Questions remain as to whether the policy vision of digitalisation is compatible with the troublesome realities of coordination. This paper presents a case study of a digital platform for skills transfer from hospital to municipal health and social care in a Norwegian health region. It follows the platformʼs transformation from a marginal initiative lacking strategic endorsement to an acknowledged potential resource for health and social care coordination in the region. The paper asks how this transformation came about and what it can teach us about how to make digital technology work for coordination. The paper locates the transformation in how staff and managers engaged with each other and the platform to solve day-to-day coordination problems – many caused by existing digital coordination technology – and thereby adapted the platform to local challenges. The paper further argues that the management of digital coordination must give room for staff and managers to use their local experience to shape tools to local contingencies of coordination. Finally, the paper warns that the Norwegian policy for coordination and digitalisation poses a challenge to the room for manoeuvre at the local level.

17. A Three-Echelon Retailer-Led Closed Loop Supply Chain with Substitutable Products Coordination: Real-World Beverage Industry Application.

In this paper, we consider a real-world retailer-led three-echelon CLSC with substitutable products in a beverage industry consisting of a manufacturer, a distributor, and a retailer. The manufacturer produces the same product in two different types of packaging, one being a returnable glass bottle (RGB) and the other being a disposable bottle (OW) and the consumer chooses depending on their preference. The RGB is then returned via the specialized distributor, who must ensure the sorting of the returned bottles and their reverse logistics back to the manufacturer. We analyse the CLSC with the dominant role of the retailer and compare the Stackelberg equilibrium with the Nash equilibrium where all CLSC members are equally strong. We prove that the CLSC can make higher profits if the product mix is skewed towards the RGB product. Our analysis also shows that a retailer-led CLSC can be coordinated with an RS contract to achieve a fair share of a double increase in total profits for all partners if the retailer manages its leadership position and maximises its bargaining power. From a game theoretic perspective, we show that our Stackelberg equilibrium is also acceptable in the pure vertical Nash game. Furthermore, the sensitivity analysis explains why it is so difficult to negotiate and coordinate a real CLSC in a Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector, because it is unlikely that the dominant retailer would participate in the coordination negotiations and give up its margins for the benefit of all CLSCs, which is necessary to ensure the effect of reducing prices for the final consumer. This is all set in the real beverage CLSC using actual cost parameters thus providing valuable managerial insights. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Reputation feedback systems assign feedback scores to traders with the aim of separating them according to reliability. There is now a substantial amount of literature on what these mechanisms do well and not so well. Conspicuously absent is a theoretical framework to guide thinking on improving these systems. Here we construct a prototype market, stylized and conceptual in nature, but also suitable for laboratory testing. We use the prototype to examine competing approaches to eliciting feedback from traders. Using entropy to benchmark informativeness, we show that the informativeness of feedback elicitation approaches depends on the ability to solve a coordination problem such that traders use a common mapping to turn experiences into ratings. In theory, different approaches can be about equally informative although the map to coordinate on is more ambiguous in some cases. We then test the approaches in the laboratory. The resulting data find that the most informative feedback is associated with the elicitation methods where the solution to the coordination problem is least ambiguous. My main goal in this paper is to examine agreement in relative clauses with conjoined heads. Since there are many elements that can potentially agree with the conjoined head (i.e., the relative pronoun, the verb, nominal modifiers if present), there are many logically possible agreement patterns, only a subset of which is attested. I focus on the question of what the available (and unavailable) patterns tell us about the nature of the Agree, the mechanism responsible for agreement. The more theoretical question I examine is why sometimes Agree between a single Probe and multiple Goals surfaces as Resolved Agreement, and other times as agreement with a single Goal. Focusing on coordinate structures, I argue that Agree between a single Probe and multiple Goals in a Parallel Merge structure obligatorily leads to Single Conjunct Agreement, whereas Agree between a single Probe and multiple Goals in a non-Parallel Merge structure can result in either Single Conjunct Agreement or Resolved Agreement. This proposal has implications that go beyond Polish relative clauses, which I also discuss in the paper.

It is therefore surprising that so little is known about it among professionals in child healthcare and education. Parents have expressed frustration about this lack of awareness, including the general public. The general aim of this paper was to describe those critical aspects of DCD that will promote awareness.

• High penetration of Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) has reduced frequency stability in modern power systems. • Use of multiple Virtual Inertial (VI) units improves frequency stability. • Coordination of multiple VI units increases energy efficiency. • A comprehensive review of VI implementation methods has been done. • Coordination of VI units has been analyzed. The modern power system is progressing from a system based on synchronous generators toward systems with high penetration of renewable energy sources (RESs) such as photovoltaic (PV) and wind power generating units which are connected to the grid through inverters. RES units will represent a significant share of the power generation in near future; therefore, the conventional approach of integrating them into the grid may lead to frequency instability. Many researchers have suggested the use of inverters with virtual inertial control methods to act as synchronous generators in the grid and maintain and increase the frequency stability. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of virtual inertial strategies and current control strategies and makes a comprehensive comparison while describing their characteristics. Then, different types of stability analyses in the presented methods are examined and examples of each are presented. In continuation and in addition to the review studies conducted in this field, methods presented with the aim of improving the virtual inertial control are carefully examined and their characteristics according to the number of resources used, the adaptivity of parameters, the use of optimization methods, the issue of coordination between several resources and the type of communication network are studied. Moreover, a comprehensive review of multiple- virtual synchronous generator (VSG) methods to develop and implement the concept of virtual inertia in weak grids are presented. Finally, a discussion of challenges and research directions is presented, particularly pointing to the integration of multiple virtual inertial units at the system level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this quasiexperimental study was to test the effects of wearing the NewGait rehabilitative device on walking abilities in individuals with foot drop. The study involved 16 participants with foot drops caused by stroke (11 participants), multiple sclerosis (one participant), and peripheral neuropathies (four individuals). During a single testing session, participants walked 12 m at their self‐selected speed in four experimental conditions: walking without any orthotic device; walking while wearing a regular plastic posterior leaf ankle foot orthosis (AFO); walking with the NewGait device assisting ankle dorsiflexion only; and walking with the NewGait device assisting the hip, knee, and ankle joint motions. Body motions during walking were recorded using a 3D system for motion analysis and analyzed with a set of spatiotemporal and kinematic parameters and a gait decomposition index. The gait decomposition index indicated sagittal interjoint coordination in the three joint pairs (hip–knee, knee–ankle, and hip–ankle) of the paretic (foot drop) leg during walking and was validated in a previous study. Overall, wearing all three orthotic devices improved the gait velocity, ankle dorsiflexion, and foot clearance compared to gait trials in which no assistive devices were used. However, wearing the AFO significantly restricted the plantarflexion range of motion and decreased interjoint coordination as measured by joint decomposition. In contrast, the NewGait device altered the ankle plantarflexion motions but also increased coordinated movement (reduced the decomposition) in most lower‐extremity joint pairs and conditions. Methods: A systematic literature review, spanning January 2010 to December 2022, identified 11 relevant articles involving 492 children. Results: Positive outcomes were observed, with a moderate to large overall effect size (Cohen's d) indicating significant improvements in motor function through strategies emphasizing activity, bodily function, games, and small group events. Notably, interventions targeting complex motor skills were crucial for enhancing preparedness and activity engagement, improving fitness, and preventing obesity in children with DCD. Conclusions: The review underscores the effectiveness of activity-oriented and body-function-focused therapies in enhancing motor skills and functioning, emphasizing the need for interventions aligned with real-world activities. This study aimed to analyze the aerodynamic characteristics of Chinese Nordic combined athletes during the ski jump take-off process, comparing them with elite athletes from the 2009 Nordic World Ski Championships using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods. Methods: Using 3D model analysis and continuous relative phase analysis, CFD methods were utilized to assess the mechanical characteristics of athletes during the take-off phase. Results: The analysis revealed that Chinese athletes displayed a lower dominance of the knee joint during the take-off phase, leading to increased air drag. Conclusion: Reduced knee joint dominance and an excessive ankle angle at the initiation of the ski jump take-off contribute to higher air drag. In target-oriented multi-agent tasks, agents collaboratively achieve goals defined by specific objects, or targets, in their environment. The key to success is the effective coordination between agents and these targets, especially in dynamic environments where targets may shift. Agents must adeptly adjust to these changes and re-evaluate their target interactions. Inefficient coordination can lead to resource waste, extended task times, and lower overall performance. Addressing this challenge, we introduce the regulatory hierarchical multi-agent coordination (RHMC), a hierarchical reinforcement learning approach. RHMC divides the coordination task into two levels: a high-level policy, assigning targets based on environmental state, and a low-level policy, executing basic actions guided by individual target assignments and observations. Stabilizing RHMC's high-level policy is crucial for effective learning. This stability is achieved by reward regularization, reducing reliance on the dynamic low-level policy. Such regularization ensures the high-level policy remains focused on broad coordination, not overly dependent on specific agent actions. By minimizing low-level policy dependence, RHMC adapts more seamlessly to environmental changes, boosting learning efficiency. 26. Employee innovation during office work, work from home and hybrid work.

The Covid-19 pandemic forced firms globally to shift workforces to working from home [WFH]. Firms are now struggling to implement a return to working from the office [WFO], as employees enjoy the significant benefits of WFH for their work-life balance. Therefore many firms are adopting a hybrid model in which employees work partly from the office and partly from home. We use unique and detailed data from an Indian IT services firm which contains a precise measure of innovation activity of over 48,000 employees in these three work environments. Our key outcomes are the quantity and quality of ideas submitted by employees. Based on an event study design, the quantity of ideas did not change during the WFH period as compared to WFO, but the quality of ideas suffered. During the later hybrid period, the quantity of submitted ideas fell. In the hybrid phase innovation suffered particularly in teams which were not well coordinated in terms of when they worked at the office or from home. Our findings suggest that remote and hybrid work modes may inhibit collaboration and innovation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating and neurodegenerative disease due to an autoimmune chronic inflammatory response, yet the etiology is currently not completely understood. It is already known that physical activity plays an essential role in improving quality of life, especially in neuropathological conditions. The study was aimed to investigate the possible benefits of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) in bone and lipid metabolism markers, and neuromotor abilities in MS patients. 130 participants were recruited; 16 subjects with MS met the inclusion criteria and were included in the data analysis. The patients were randomly assigned to two groups: a Control group (CG) (34.88 ± 4.45 yrs) that didn't perform any physical activity and the Exercise group (EG) (36.20 ± 7.80 yrs) that performed HIIT protocol. The training program was conducted remotely by a kinesiologist. It was performed three times a week for 8 weeks. At the beginning (T0) and the end of the study (T1) physical function tests, bone remodelling markers, and lipid markers analyses were performed. After 8 weeks of training the wall squat (s) (T0 = 27.18 ± 4.21; T1 = 41.68 ± 5.38, p ≤ 0.01) and Time Up and Go test (s) (T0 = 7.65 ± 0.43; T1 = 6.34 ± 0.38 p ≤ 0.01) performances improved; lipid markers analysis showed a decrease in Total (mg/dl) (T0 = 187.22 ± 15.73; T1 = 173.44 ± 13.03, p ≤ 0.05) and LDL (mg/dl) (T0 = 108 ± 21.08; T1 = 95.02 ± 17.99, p < 0.05) cholesterol levels. Additionally, the levels of osteocalcin (µg/L), a marker of bone formation increased (T0 = 20.88 ± 4.22; T1 = 23.66 ± 6.24, p < 0.05), 25-OH Vitamin D (µg/L) improved after 8 weeks (T0 = 21.11 ± 7.11; T1 = 27.66 ± 7.59, p < 0.05). This study presents two simple physiotherapy programs that were implemented for five weeks and showed positive changes in balance, coordination, and motor skills in kindergarteners with ASD. Physiotherapy programs in a gym and games on a smart board with balance plates and an unstable base were applied to improve the physical condition of children with ASD. Thirty children with ASD (4–6 years old) attending special needs kindergarten were enrolled in the study. Three tests were used to assess participants' physical condition before and after the study: the modified Berg Balance Scale, the Imbalance Coordination Sample, and the Bruininks–Oseretsky Motor Proficiency Test (BOTMP). The resulting mean change, calculated from each group's scores, shows that the participants who received physical therapy sessions at the smart board had the greatest change of 1.58 points. It shows that the opportunity to play games on a smart board motivates children with ASD to work harder; therefore, it is a simple and easy way to engage children in different types of physical exercise. A slightly smaller change of 1.51 was obtained in the group that received gym sessions. However, working in the gym was more psychologically challenging for the children with ASD due to their lack of desire and motivation. Both methods are relatively simple and easy to apply at home; therefore, parents can make a significant contribution to improving children's physical condition and that can be an effective tool to assist these individuals with activities in daily life. Abstract Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) proves its effectiveness in alleviating traffic congestion, especially in urban areas. The implementation of Transit Signal Priority (TSP) for BRT has shown a significant reduction in delays. However, in densely populated urban areas, this priority can inadvertently cause additional delays for other modes of transportation. In this paper, we propose a control strategy for Regionally Coordinating Bus Priority Signals Control (RCBPSC) at urban intersections. The aim is not only to reduce bus delays but also to consider minimizing delays for pedestrians and other vehicles. To achieve this, we modeled two consecutive intersections along the Amman BRT. Essentially, we evaluated three different control scenarios in addition to the current base scenario. These scenarios include adaptive traffic signal control, RCBPSC with no signal timing optimization, and RCBPSC with signal optimization. Simulation results indicate that the adaptive traffic signal timing has the worst operational performance in terms of average delay and Level of Service (LOS) compared to the base scenario. Additionally, the results show that BRT delays significantly decrease at both intersections when we implement RCBPSC scenarios. When implementing RCBPSC with optimization scenarios, the results show an average reduction of more than 60% in intersection delay, a decrease in emissions of more than 50%, and an improved LOS for system users compared to the base scenario. The findings of this work can help agencies improve the current operational condition of BRT when implementing RCBPSC.

Conservation interventions typically focus on protecting public goods, but they often also create private spillover co-benefits. For example, protecting open space may increase the values of adjacent properties and protecting a coral reef may increase fishing opportunities outside. These privately-captured co-benefits can confer substantial value, but are rarely tapped to help promote and expand conservation efforts. One reason, we argue, is that doing so is difficult: While co-beneficiaries are easily convinced of the benefits of the conservation intervention, they are not obliged to pay for it, and so usually free-ride and enjoy these benefits gratis. In this paper, we document and quantify the magnitude of co-benefits in the literature and identify the conditions under which co-benefits could be tapped to offset the cost of conservation for conservationists. In light of these conditions, we propose an approach that involves voluntary compensation for the provision of co-benefits to expand the total amount of resources available for conservation efforts. We show that taking advantage of these co-benefits lowers the cost of implementing conservation actions while being incentive compatible for all parties involved. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

34. Inequalities in patients' experiences with cancer care: the role of economic and health literacy determinants.

Background: Patients with fewer socioeconomic and health literacy resources are disadvantaged in their access and use of healthcare, which may give rise to worse experiences with care and thus inequalities in patient experiences. However, only a limited number of studies have examined how socioeconomic and health literacy factors shape inequalities in patients' experiences with cancer care. Objective: To examine whether patients' experiences with cancer care differ according to their economic status and health literacy. Methods: Secondary analysis of data on 2789 adult patients diagnosed with cancer from the Swiss Cancer Patient Experiences-2 (SCAPE-2) study, a cross-sectional survey conducted in eight hospitals across Switzerland from September 2021 to February 2022. Regression analysis was applied to examine the independent effect of patients' economic status and health literacy on various outcomes of experiences with cancer care, covering eight different dimensions of patient-centred care, controlling for confounding factors. Results: Adjusted regression analysis showed that patients with lower economic status reported significantly worse experiences with cancer care in 12 out of 29 specific care experiences, especially in the dimensions of 'respect for patients' preferences' and 'physical comfort' where all items of experiences were associated with economic status. Additionally, lower health literacy was associated with worse patient experiences in 23 specific care experiences. All items in the dimensions of 'respect for patients' preferences', 'physical comfort' and 'emotional support' were associated with health literacy. Discussion: This study revealed significant inequalities in experiences with cancer care shaped by the economic status and health literacy of patients across different dimensions of patient-centred care. It is essential to address the needs of more disadvantaged patients who face obstacles in their access and use of the healthcare system, not only to mitigate inequalities in cancer care but also to avoid inequalities in health outcomes. However, the activity of electrolyte is still ambiguous due to its complicated solution environment. Herein, we performed a pioneering investigation on the coordination behavior and transformation mechanism of Cr
3+ in electrolyte and prediction of impurity ions impact through quantum chemistry computations. Based on the structure and symmetry of electrostatic potential distribution, the activity of different Cr3+ complex ions is confirmed as [Cr(H2 O)5 Cl]2+ > [Cr(H2 O)4 Cl2 ]+ > [Cr(H2 O)6 ]3+ . The transformation mechanism between [Cr(H2 O)6 ]3+ and [Cr(H2 O)5 Cl]2+ is revealed. We find the metal impurity ions (especially Mg2+ ) can exacerbate the electrolyte deactivation by reducing the transformation energy barrier from [Cr(H2 O)5 Cl]2+ (24.38 kcal mol-1 ) to [Cr(H2 O)6 ]3+ (16.23 kcal mol-1 ). The solvent radial distribution and mean square displacement in different solvent environments are discussed and we conclude that the coordination configuration limits the diffusivity of Cr3+ . The validity and reliability of the Lower Extremity Motor Coordination Test (LEMOCOT) were assessed in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). The study involved 60 participants diagnosed with MS (mean age: 48.13 years, range: 24–80 years). Intra-rater reliability was assessed within-day (n = 12), and inter-rater reliability was assessed within-day (n = 45) and between-days (n = 22). For known-groups validity, test scores were compared between participants of different sexes; for convergent validity, test scores were correlated with age, the Five-Repetition Sit-to-Stand test (FSTS), the Berg Balance Scale (BBS), the Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS), and the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS). To test the discriminant validity, the LEMOCOT test scores were correlated with the Mini-Mental State Evaluation (MMSE) and compared according to social history (living alone or not). The LEMOCOT test was tested under three different conditions and found to be very reliable (intraclass correlation coefficient, ICC
2,1 > 0.94) with an acceptable error level (standard error of the measurement, SEM, between 1.39 and 3.47 targets and 95% minimum detectable change; MDC95% , between 3.84 and 9.58 targets). Convergent validity was verified, as the LEMOCOT registered very strong correlations with the FSTS test (r = −0.851) and the BBS scale (r = 0.815), a strong correlation with the LEFS scale (r = 0.78), a moderate correlation with the EDSS scale (r = −0.634), all highly significant (p < 0.001), and a weak correlation with age (r = −0.332, p < 0.01). Discriminant validity was also confirmed, as the LEMOCOT demonstrated a weak correlation with the MMSE scale (r = 0.365, p = 0.017) and no differences relative to living environment or sex. Background: Rehabilitation is considered paramount for enhancing quality of life and reducing healthcare costs. As a result of healthcare reforms, Norwegian municipalities have been given greater responsibility for allocating rehabilitation services following discharge from hospital. Individual decision letters serve as the basis for implementing services and they have been described as information labels on the services provided by the municipality. They play an important role in planning and implementing the services in collaboration with the individual applicants. Research indicates that the implementation of policies may lead to unintended consequences, as individuals receiving municipal services perceive them as fragmented. This perception is characterised by limited user involvement and a high focus on body functions. The aim of this study was to examine how municipal decision letters about service allocation incorporate the recommendations made in the official national guideline and reflect a holistic approach to rehabilitation, coordination and user involvement for individuals with comprehensive needs. Methods: The decision letters of ten individuals with moderate to severe brain injury allocating rehabilitation services in two municipalities were examined. It was assessed whether the content was in accordance with the authorities' recommendations, and a discourse analysis was conducted using four tools adapted from an established integrated approach. Results: The letters primarily contained standard texts concerning legal and administrative regulations. They were predominantly in line with the official guideline to municipal service allocation. From a rehabilitation perspective, the focus was mainly on medically oriented care, scarcely referring to psychosocial needs, activity, and participation. The intended user involvement seemed to vary between active and passive status, while the coordination of services was given limited attention. Conclusions: The written decision letters did fulfil legal and administrative recommendations for service allocation. However, they did not fulfil their potential to serve as a means of conveying rehabilitation issues, such as specification of the allocated services, a holistic approach to health, coordination, or the involvement of users in decision processes. These elements must be incorporated throughout the allocation process if the policies are to be implemented as intended. Broadly speaking, binominal and biverbal lexical constructions have been studied independently in different research traditions and frameworks. It is true that the two do not necessarily have overlapping areal distributions, but the fundamental question remains whether Indo-European NN compounds and Transeurasian VV compounds have nothing in common. Against this background, a cross-categorial comparison, not within but across languages, is made of coordinative binominal and biverbal constructions. NN and VV coordinate compounds from English and Japanese are examined in detail using the methodology of contrastive morphology and decompositional lexical semantics. It is shown that dvandva is possible not only in NN but also in VV coordinate compounds and, furthermore, that the dvandva–appositive distinction in NN coordinate compounds recurs in VV coordinate compounds. Variations in plant traits are indicative of plant adaptations to forest environments, and studying their relationships with tree growth provides valuable insights into forest regeneration. The spatial arrangement of plant seeds within the forest litter or soil critically influences the variations of root–leaf traits, thereby affecting the adaptive strategies of emerging seedlings. However, our current understanding of the impacts of individual root–leaf traits on seedling growth in different relative position, and whether these traits together affect growth, remains limited. This study focuses on the dominant tree species, Castanopsis kawakamii , within the Sanming C. kawakamii Nature Reserve of China. The present experiment aimed to examine the variations in root–leaf traits of seedling, focus on the relative positions of seeds within different layers: beneath or above the litter layer, or within the bare soil layer (without litter). Our findings provided evidence supporting a coordinated relationship between root and leaf traits, wherein leaf traits varied in conjunction with root traits in the relative positions of seeds. Specifically, we observed that seedlings exhibited higher values for specific leaf area and average root diameter, while displaying lower root tissue density. The mixed model explained 86.1% of the variation in root–leaf traits, surpassing the variation explained by the relative positions. Furthermore, soil nitrogen acted as a mediator, regulating the relationship between seedling growth and root–leaf traits, specifically leaf dry matter content and root tissue density. Therefore, future studies should consider artificially manipulating tree species diversity based on root–leaf traits characteristics to promote forest recovery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

40. Conceptualizing Team Disruption Through an Event-System Framework.

- Abstract
The success of work teams is often contingent on how they handle disruption. Although research has examined how teams respond to disruptive events, there is surprisingly little clarity about the nature of team disruption as a construct. Through an integration of Event-System Theory (EST) with team-based theories and frameworks, we define team disruption in terms of misalignment of team member coordination relative to task demands due to shifts in coordination, task demands, or both. We describe how event novelty and criticality create team disruption, and explore the temporal and spatial conditions under which team disruption is promoted or mitigated. The proposed conceptualization of team disruption offers a unifying definition of the construct that complements existing research on team adaptability, membership change, team interventions, and related approaches. The framework offers a way to understand past research in new ways, provides specific directions for future research, and contributes actionable guidance for practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper introduces software patterns (registration, acquire-release, and cache awareness) and data structures (Petri net, finite state machine, and protocol flag array) to support the coordinated execution of software activities (also called “components” or “agents”). Moreover, it presents and tests an implementation for Petri nets that supports real-time execution in shared memory for deployment inside one individual robot and separates event firing and handling, enabling distributed deployment between multiple robots. Experimental validation of the introduced patterns and data structures is performed within the context of activities for task execution, control and perception, and decision making for an application on coordinated navigation.

The modern power system is progressing from a system based on synchronous generators toward systems with high penetration of renewable energy sources (RESs) such as photovoltaic (PV) and wind power generating units which are connected to the grid through inverters. RES units will represent a significant share of the power generation in near future; therefore, the conventional approach of integrating them into the grid may lead to frequency instability. Many researchers have suggested the use of inverters with virtual inertial control methods to act as synchronous generators in the grid and maintain and increase the frequency stability. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of virtual inertial strategies and current control strategies and makes a comprehensive comparison while describing their characteristics. Then, different types of stability analyses in the presented methods are examined and examples of each are presented. In continuation and in addition to the review studies conducted in this field, methods presented with the aim of improving the virtual inertial control are carefully examined and their characteristics according to the number of resources used, the adaptivity of parameters, the use of optimization methods, the issue of coordination between several resources and the type of communication network are studied. Moreover, a comprehensive review of multiple- virtual synchronous generator (VSG) methods to develop and implement the concept of virtual inertia in weak grids are presented. Finally, a discussion of challenges and research directions is presented, particularly pointing to the integration of multiple virtual inertial units at the system level.

The conventional HVAC system for multi-area buildings includes both centralized and in-situ equipment to collectively regulate indoor air temperature to meet the preferences of its occupants. However, due to the limited capacity of the total supply air mass rate in centralized equipment, maintaining comfortable indoor air temperature for all areas can face conflicts. The first conflict arises between satisfying diverse preferences and limited global resources, while the second conflict is between centralized air supply and distributed regulation. In this paper, a distributed zone model predictive control (DZMPC) with priority conflict resolution is proposed for the multi-area HVAC systems. This strategy is composed of a zone parameter optimization with dynamic priority as a coordinated upper layer and a lower DZMPC layer. In the upper layer, a zone parameter optimization with priority is presented to coordinate sub-controllers by adjusting variable references' bounds for DZMPC, to solve the resource competition when it occurs. In the lower layer, model predictive control with zone control is formed to mitigate the tension of the shared resource. By integrating dual decomposition and Augmented Lagrange function to address global constraints, a distributed solvable control structure is formed. The resulting optimization can be solved using a distributed primal–dual algorithm. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is proved by simulation examples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• The state-of-the-art research advances in power system restoration with large renewable penetration are reviewed from different system levels, i.e., transmission system, distribution system, and coordinated transmission and distribution system. • The methods of handling renewable power uncertainty during system restoration are summarized. • The laboratory validations and practical applications of the renewable power system restoration strategies are reviewed. • Promising research directions for renewable system restoration are provided, including uncertainty handling, artificial intelligence techniques, transient stability issues, cyber-physical interlinking, and multi-energy coupling. The catastrophic blackout events and ever-increasing penetration of renewable power generation highlight an advanced restoration strategy to effectively and reliably employ renewable power generation to contribute to renewable power system restoration. This paper reviews the research advances of power system restoration involving large renewable penetration, and the methods of handling renewable power uncertainty during restoration are also summarized. First, the transmission system restoration processes are divided into three sequential stages: a) black-start, b) network reconfiguration and c) load restoration, and the research advances of these three restoration stages involving large renewable generation are presented. Then, the distribution system restoration assisted by multiple flexible resources, such as renewable distributed generators, remotely-controlled switches, energy storage systems, and soft open points, are reviewed with emerging techniques, including micro-grids, multi-agent systems, repair crews, and mobile power sources. Furthermore, with the growing activeness and flexibility of the distribution system, the coordinated transmission and distribution system restoration and their information interactions are also discussed. Finally, for practical applications, the laboratory validations of restoration strategies using realistic power grid data, real-world restoration strategies, decision support systems, and field tests of black-start procedures are introduced to complete this literature review. Effectively deploying renewable power sources can significantly improve the power system restoration efficiency, and their inherent uncertainty should be carefully handled. Background: Homecare client services are often distributed across several interdependent healthcare providers, making proper care coordination essential. However, as studies exploring care coordination in the homecare setting are scarce, serious knowledge gaps exist regarding how various factors influence coordination in this care sector. To fill such gaps, this study's central aim was to explore how external factors (i.e., financial and regulatory mechanisms) and homecare agency characteristics (i.e., work environment, workforce, and client characteristics) are related to care coordination in homecare. Methods: This analysis was part of a national multicentre, cross-sectional study in the Swiss homecare setting that included a stratified random sample of 88 Swiss homecare agencies. Data were collected between January and September 2021 through agency and employee questionnaires. Using our newly developed care coordination framework, COORA, we modelled our variables to assess the relevant components of care coordination on the structural, process, and outcome levels. We conducted both descriptive and multilevel regression analyses—with the latter adjusting for dependencies within agencies—to explore which key factors are associated with coordination. Results: The final sample size consisted of 1450 employees of 71 homecare agencies. We found that one explicit coordination mechanism ("communication and information exchange" (beta = 0.10, p <.001)) and four implicit coordination mechanisms—"knowledge of the health system" (beta = -0.07, p <.01), "role clarity" (beta = 0.07, p <.001), "mutual respect and trust" (beta = 0.07, p <.001), and "accountability, predictability, common perspective" (beta = 0.19, p <.001)—were significantly positively associated with employee-perceived coordination. We also found that the effects of agency characteristics and external factors were mediated through coordination processes. Conclusion: Implicit coordination mechanisms, which enable and enhance team communication, require closer examination. While developing strategies to strengthen implicit mechanisms, the involvement of the entire care team is vital to create structures (i.e., explicit mechanisms) that enable communication and information exchange. Appropriate coordination processes seem to mitigate the association between staffing and coordination. This suggests that they support coordination even when workload and overtime are higher. We examine the effects of mandating compensation disclosure on executive incentive contracts, earnings management, firm value, and social welfare. We develop a moral hazard model with multiple principal-agent pairs facing an external monitor who allocates resources across firms to verify earnings management. With such scrutiny allocation, contracts exhibit externalities that create a coordination problem among principals. Contract disclosure enables principals to design the contract anticipating the monitor's reaction. However, it may also exacerbate the coordination problem among principals because they do not consider externalities on other principals caused by the effects of their contract choices on the monitor's scrutiny allocation. If internal controls are relatively weak, contract disclosure may make contracts more strongly contingent on reported earnings, increase earnings manipulation, and nevertheless increase social welfare. The safety of workers and equipment in the power grid requires the shutdown of power plants in case of maintenance or malfunction. The shutdown relies on protective devices that must be properly coordinated to isolate only the part of the grid affected by the malfunction. Using the DIgSILENT PowerFactory software, an analysis was conducted on a model of an accurate real grid integrating a photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of 390 kW. Protection coordination testing was carried out for three-phase, two-phase, and single-phase short circuit currents at arbitrarily selected locations at medium and low voltage levels. Protection in the time domain is coordinated on lines and busbars to determine the speed and selectivity of protective devices. The analysis results indicate that adequately adjusting the three-phase short circuit at the main transformer output 110/10 kV with an impedance of 0 O and an allowed protection operation time of up to two seconds can be correctly addressed within 36.7 ms. Much experimental work has been contributed to all-metal σ, π and δ-aromaticity among transition metals, semimetallics and other metals in the past two decades. Before our focused investigations on the properties of triangular and sandwich-shaped all-metal aromatics, A. I. Boldyrev presented general discussions on the concepts of all-metal σ-aromaticity and σ-antiaromaticity for metallo-clusters. Schleyer illustrated that Nucleus-Independent Chemical Shifts (NICS) were among the most authoritative criteria for aromaticity. Ugalde discussed the earlier developments of all-metal aromatic compounds with all possible shapes. Besides the theoretical predictions, many stable all-metal aromatic trinuclear clusters have been isolated as the metallic analogues of either the σ-aromatic molecule's [H
3 ]+ ion or the π-aromatic molecule's [C3 H3 ]+ ion. Different from Hoffman's opinion on all-metal aromaticity, triangular all-metal aromatics were found to hold great potential in applications in coordination chemistry, catalysis, and material science. Triangular all-metal aromatics, which were theoretically proved to conform to the Hückel (4n + 2) rule and possess the smallest aromatic ring, could also play roles as stable ligands during the formation of all-metal sandwiches. The triangular and sandwich-shaped all-metal aromatics have not yet been specifically summarized despite their diversity of existence, puissant developments and various interesting applications. These findings are different from the public opinion that all-metal aromatics would be limited to further applications due to their overstated difficulties in synthesis and uncertain stabilities. Our review will specifically focus on the summarization of theoretical predictions, feasible syntheses and isolations, and multiple applications of triangular and sandwich shaped all-metal aromatics. In multi-finger coordinated keystroke actions by professional pianists, movements are precisely regulated by multiple motor neural centers, exhibiting a certain degree of coordination in finger motions. This coordination enhances the flexibility and efficiency of professional pianists' keystrokes. Research on the coordination of keystrokes in professional pianists is of great significance for guiding the movements of piano beginners and the motion planning of exoskeleton robots, among other fields. Currently, research on the coordination of multi-finger piano keystroke actions is still in its infancy. Scholars primarily focus on phenomenological analysis and theoretical description, which lack accurate and practical modeling methods. Considering that the tendon of the ring finger is closely connected to adjacent fingers, resulting in limited flexibility in its movement, this study concentrates on coordinated keystrokes involving the middle and ring fingers. A motion measurement platform is constructed, and Leap Motion is used to collect data from 12 professional pianists. A universal model applicable to multiple individuals for multi-finger coordination in keystroke actions based on the backpropagation (BP) neural network is proposed, which is optimized using a genetic algorithm (GA) and a sparrow search algorithm (SSA). The angular rotation of the ring finger's MCP joint is selected as the model output, while the individual difference information and the angular data of the middle finger's MCP joint serve as inputs. The individual difference information used in this study includes ring finger length, middle finger length, and years of piano training. The results indicate that the proposed SSA-BP neural network-based model demonstrates superior predictive accuracy, with a root mean square error of 4.8328°. Based on this model, the keystroke motion of the ring finger's MCP joint can be accurately predicted from the middle finger's keystroke motion information, offering an evaluative method and scientific guidance for the training of multi-finger coordinated keystrokes in piano learners.
