The increasing rates of illicit behaviors, particularly financial crimes, e.g., bank fraud and tax evasion, adversely affect national economies. In such cases, using nondestructive methods, scientists must evaluate relevant documents carefully to preserve their value as evidence. When forensic laboratories analyze paper as evidence, they typically investigate its origin and date of manufacture. If a document’s date is earlier than the earliest availability of the paper used in its creation, then this anachronism indicates that the document has been backdated. This study investigated weave marks and drainage marks for forensic purposes. Machine learning models for forensic document examination were developed and evaluated. The partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), support vector machine (SVM), and artificial neural network (ANN) classification models achieved F1-scores of 0.903, 0.952, and 0.931, respectively. In addition, to enhance model effectiveness and construct a robust model, variables were selected using the VIP scores generated by the PLS-DA model. As a result, the SoftMax classifier in the ANN model maintained its performance with an F1-score of 0.951 even with a 50% reduction in the number of input variables.

Herein, the challenge of accurately classifying the manufacturing origin of printing paper, including continent, country, and specific product, was addressed. One-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D CNN) models trained on infrared (IR) spectrum data acquired from printing paper samples were used for the task. The preprocessing of the IR spectra through a second-derivative transformation and the restriction of the spectral range to 1800 to 1200 cm-1 improved the classification performance of the model. The outcomes were highly promising. Models trained on second-derivative IR spectra in the 1800 to 1200-cm-1 range exhibited perfect classification for the manufacturing continent and country, with an impressive F1 score of 0.980 for product classification. Notably, the developed 1D CNN model outperformed traditional machine learning classifiers, such as support vector machines and feed-forward neural networks. In addition, the application of data point attribution enhanced the transparency of the decision-making process of the model, offering insights into the spectral patterns that affect classification. This study makes a considerable contribution to printing paper classification, with potential implications for accurate origin identification in various fields.

Purpose: Paper-based artifacts hold significant cultural and social values. However, paper is intrinsically fragile to microorganisms, such as mold, due to its cellulose composition, which can serve as a microorganisms' nutrient source. Mold not only can damage papers' structural integrity and pose significant challenges to conservation works but also may subject individuals attending the contaminated artifacts to health risks. Current approaches for strain identification usually require extensive training, prolonged time for analysis, expensive operation costs, and higher risks of secondary damage due to sampling. Thus, in current conservation practices with mold-contaminated artifacts, little pre-screening or strain identification was performed before mold removal, and the cleaning techniques are usually broad-spectrum rather than strain-specific. With deep learning showing promising applications across various domains, this study investigated the feasibility of using a convolutional neural network (CNN) for fast in-situ recognition and classification of mold on paper. Methods: Molds were first non-invasively sampled from ancient Xuan Paper-based Chinese books from the Qing and Ming dynasties. Strains were identified using molecular biology methods and the four most prevalent strains were inoculated on Xuan paper to create mockups for image collection. Microscopic images of the molds as well as their stains situated on paper were collected using a compound microscope and commercial microscope lens for cell phone cameras, which were then used for training CNN models with a transfer learning scheme to perform the classification of mold. To enable involvement and contribution from the research community, a web interface that actuates the process while providing interactive features for users to learn about the information of the classified strain was constructed. Moreover, a feedback functionality in the web interface was embedded for catching potential classification errors, adding additional training images, or introducing new strains, all to refine the generalizability and robustness of the model. Results & Conclusion: In the study, we have constructed a suite of high-confidence classification CNN models for the diagnostic process for mold contamination in conservation. At the same time, a web interface was constructed that allows recurrently refining the model with human feedback through engaging the research community. Overall, the proposed framework opens new avenues for effective and timely identification of mold, thus enabling proactive and targeted mold remediation strategies in conservation. The paper has three major objectives. The first objective of the paper is to synthesize and define common categories of meta-analysis. The second objective is to propose a way to comprehend these common categories of meta-analysis through learning from their respective generic conceptual frameworks. The third objective is to point out which R packages to use to conduct a meta-analysis for each category presented in this paper. In practice, research novices may not know where to begin to learn a topic of meta-analysis for their research. Furthermore, they may not know how the topic of meta-analysis progresses from basics to advanced. This makes it almost next to impossible to use meta-analysis in their research. Certainly, this is problematic. Thus, this paper intends to help research novices overcome this problem. To achieve this, the three objectives mentioned at the beginning were implemented. To propose a synthesis of common categories of meta-analysis along with their respective definitions, a literature review was used as a method to synthesize and define the common categories of meta-analysis presented in this paper. Here, synthesizing meta-analysis categories in one figure would make it much easier for research novices to see the breadth of the subject in question. To propose an easy way to understand the concepts of meta-analysis through learning from their respective generic conceptual frameworks, personal experience was used as a method to make that offering. Here, it is encouraged that research novices should go beyond the definitions of categories of meta-analysis. They can try to frame their research by using example conceptual frameworks presented in the paper as a starting point. To point out which R packages to use with what categories of meta-analysis, a literature review was used as a method to identify those appropriate R packages available. Here, it would be useful for research novices to know which R packages they may need for their meta-analysis research. In summary, the contributions of the paper here would make research novices see and understand the common categories of meta-analysis from the bottom to the top of the pyramid, also offers an easy way to understand the common categories of meta-analysis by illustrating how to develop conceptual frameworks for the common categories of meta-analysis, and finally recommending the R packages to be used with the categories of meta-analysis. Ultimately, we hope that research novices will be able to use meta-analysis successfully in their research.

Even though working with data is as important as coding for understanding and dealing with complex problems across multiple fields, it has received very little attention in the context of Computational Thinking. This paper discusses an approach for bridging the gap between Computational Thinking with Data Science by employing and studying classification as a higher-order thinking process that connects the two. To achieve that, we designed and developed an online constructionist gaming tool called SorBET which integrates coding and database design enabling students to interpret, organize, and analyze data through game play and game design. The paper presents and discusses the results of a pilot study that aimed to investigate the data practices secondary students develop through playing and modifying SorBET games, and to determine the impact of game modding on student critical engagement with CT. According to the results, students developed and used certain data practices such as data interpretation and data model design to become better players or to design an interesting classification game. Moreover, game modding process motivated students to question the original games' content, leading them to develop a critical stance towards the game data model and representations.

The intricate and tricky case of semantic analysis, especially of the enigmatic realm of nouns, the red thread of linguistics and literary exploration. This academic research explores the rich sphere of Russian literature in-depth to determine connections between function and the embodiment of theme through proper names. This research is aiming at studying the role of proper nouns in the literary masterpieces by focusing on the ideas of character development, thematic cohesiveness, and the narrative flow. This papers deals with profound significance of proper nouns as linguistics pointers that take you beyond their literal meaning to different levels of connotative value. It takes most of its ideas from the late linguistics and literary critique. This research gets down to serious business by cherry-picking and analysing a set of Russian masterpieces. An intensive method of semantic analysis was used by the study to properly identify and categorize all the structural features of proper nouns. Also, it conducts an examination of the usage of language by these instrumentalities so as to discover their common features and themes which lead to the invention of the main narrative. The results of this study add to our comprehension of proper noun semantics in Russian literature and provide us with a stepping-stone to broader discussions on the linguistic theory and literary studies. This cognitive effort exceeds the linguistic borders, as it takes into consideration the cultural and historical value of the proper nouns being presented. The report shows why it is necessary to reconsider the theoretical design to account for the distinctive linguistic and particular cultural features of the Russian literary heritage. This research is a step toward unravelling noun semantics' mystery and adds to the already existing linguistic aesthetics and cultural semiotics debates.

Despite undeniable advances in research on language learning strategies in the last several decades, empirical investigations of actions and thoughts that learners engage in to better understand and use grammar structures in different contexts, or grammar learning strategies (GLS), remain scarce. Moreover, there is a paucity of studies examining the effects of pedagogical interventions in this area, both with respect to the use of different types of GLS and the mastery of grammar structures in terms of explicit and implicit (automatized) knowledge. There is also no empirical evidence concerning the mediating role of individual difference (ID) factors in this respect. The paper outlines a study currently in progress that seeks to address all of these gaps. The first part is devoted to a brief overview of key issues related to the definition and classification of GLS as well as a synthesis of available research in this area. This is followed by a description of an intervention-based research project which explores the effects of strategies-based instruction (SBI) targeting GLS by English majors in Poland, also taking into account the moderating impact of selected ID variables. In particular, the methodology of the study is presented and the envisaged contributions of the intervention are considered.

Predictive student models are increasingly used in learning environments due to their ability to enhance educational outcomes and support stakeholders in making informed decisions. However, predictive models can be biased and produce unfair outcomes, leading to potential discrimination against certain individuals and harmful long-term implications. This has prompted research on fairness metrics meant to capture and quantify such biases. Nonetheless, current metrics primarily focus on predictive performance comparisons between groups, without considering the behavior of the models or the severity of the biases in the outcomes. To address this gap, we proposed a novel metric in a previous work (Verger et al., 2023) named "Model Absolute Density Distance" (MADD), measuring algorithmic unfairness as the difference of the probability distributions of the model's outcomes. In this paper, we extended our previous work with two major additions. Firstly, we provided theoretical and practical considerations on a hyperparameter of MADD, named "bandwidth," useful for optimal measurement of fairness with this metric. Secondly, we demonstrated how MADD can be used not only to measure unfairness but also to mitigate it through postprocessing of the model's outcomes while preserving its accuracy. We experimented with our approach on the same task of predicting student success in online courses as our previous work, and obtained successful results. To facilitate replication and future usages of MADD in different contexts, we developed an open-source Python package called maddlib (https://pypi.org/project/maddlib/). Altogether, our work contributes to advancing the research on fair student models in education.

The novel coronavirus disease — COVID-19 is a historic catastrophe that has caused many devastating impacts on human life and wellness. Researchers in academia and industry strive to understand the causes of this pandemic disease and find new therapeutics combating it. Consequently, the number of COVID-19 related publications increases rapidly, and it is too difficult for medical researchers and practitioners to keep up with the latest research and development. Literature filtering and categorization, and knowledge discovery can use text mining as a powerful tool. In this paper, we propose a text mining method to explore the categories of COVID-19 related themes and identify the standard methodologies that have been used. We discuss the potential limitations of this preliminary study and present future perspectives related to COVID-19 research. This paper provides an quantitative and qualitative mixed analysis example of using some research papers by data mining method to dig out several hidden information and set up a foundation for data scientists to develop more effective algorithms to deal with COVID-19 related problems. European countries differ widely in terms of vocational education and training (VET) tradition and the delivery of VET at the upper secondary level. A statistical approach to build a classification of VET systems in Europe is presented in the present article on the grounds of the size of the vocational enrollment, on the one hand, and the percentage of vocational enrollment in programs in which work and school are combined, on the other hand. Twenty-two European countries with full available information are considered in the study: 18 European Union (EU) countries, three Schengen Area (non-EU) countries (Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland), and the UK (non-EU state outside Schengen). Cluster analysis is a quantitative form of classification. The country groupings emerging from the K-means analysis performed in this paper allow us to distinguish mainly between vocational-oriented countries with high vocational specificity (e.g. Germany, Switzerland, and Austria), highly vocational-oriented countries with traditionally school-based VET programs (e.g. the Czech Republic and Slovakia), and less vocationally-oriented countries (general education-oriented countries such as Estonia and Spain).

Brain stroke, or a cerebrovascular accident, is a devastating medical condition that disrupts the blood supply to the brain, depriving it of oxygen and nutrients. Each year, according to the World Health Organization, 15 million people worldwide experience a stroke. This results in approximately 5 million deaths and another 5 million individuals suffering permanent disabilities. The complex interplay of various risk factors highlights the urgent need for sophisticated analytical methods to more accurately predict stroke risks and manage their outcomes. Machine learning and deep learning technologies offer promising solutions by analyzing extensive datasets including patient demographics, health records, and lifestyle choices to uncover patterns and predictors not easily discernible by humans. These technologies enable advanced data processing, analysis, and fusion techniques for a comprehensive health assessment. We conducted a comprehensive review of 25 review papers published between 2020 and 2024 on machine learning and deep learning applications in brain stroke diagnosis, focusing on classification, segmentation, and object detection. Furthermore, all these reviews explore the performance evaluation and validation of advanced sensor systems in these areas, enhancing predictive health monitoring and personalized care recommendations. Moreover, we also provide a collection of the most relevant datasets used in brain stroke analysis. The selection of the papers was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines. Furthermore, this review critically examines each domain, identifies current challenges, and proposes future research directions, emphasizing the potential of AI methods in transforming health monitoring and patient care. A crucial bottleneck in medical artificial intelligence (AI) is high-quality labeled medical datasets. In this paper, we test a large variety of wisdom of the crowd algorithms to label medical images that were initially classified by individuals recruited through an app-based platform. Individuals classified skin lesions from the International Skin Lesion Challenge 2018 into 7 different categories. There was a large dispersion in the geographical location, experience, training, and performance of the recruited individuals. We tested several wisdom of the crowd algorithms of varying complexity from a simple unweighted average to more complex Bayesian models that account for individual patterns of errors. Using a switchboard analysis, we observe that the best-performing algorithms rely on selecting top performers, weighting decisions by training accuracy, and take into account the task environment. These algorithms far exceed expert performance. We conclude by discussing the implications of these approaches for the development of medical AI.

The terms Language Disorder, Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), Language-based learning disabilities, Specific Learning Disorder, and Specific Learning Disability are commonly used to describe children struggling to learn at school. In this position paper, the definitions and distinctions between these terms are discussed, and key overlaps and differences described. Although often used interchangeably, Specific Learning Disorder and Specific Learning Disability are not synonymous. Based on current definitions, both children with DLD and children with Specific Learning Disorder could be classified as having a Specific Learning Disability in the educational setting. In educational settings, children with DLD may additionally be identified using terms such as Language Impairment, Speech, Language, Communication Needs (SLCN), and others. Despite the problematic overlap in the names Specific Learning Disorder and Specific Learning Disability, one advantage of the latter term is the acknowledgement that many skills underlying academic learning are language-based thereby capturing the disability experienced by children with language or academic learning disorders.

Previous work has demonstrated similarities and differences between aerial and terrestrial image viewing. Aerial scene categorization, a pivotal visual processing task for gathering geoinformation, heavily depends on rotation-invariant information. Aerial image-centered research has revealed effects of low-level features on performance of various aerial image interpretation tasks. However, there are fewer studies of viewing behavior for aerial scene categorization and of higher-level factors that might influence that categorization. In this paper, experienced subjects' eye movements were recorded while they were asked to categorize aerial scenes. A typical viewing center bias was observed. Eye movement patterns varied among categories. We explored the relationship of nine image statistics to observers' eye movements. Results showed that if the images were less homogeneous, and/or if they contained fewer or no salient diagnostic objects, viewing behavior became more exploratory. Higher- and object-level image statistics were predictive at both the image and scene category levels. Scanpaths were generally organized and small differences in scanpath randomness could be roughly captured by critical object saliency. Participants tended to fixate on critical objects. Image statistics included in this study showed rotational invariance. The results supported our hypothesis that the availability of diagnostic objects strongly influences eye movements in this task. In addition, this study provides supporting evidence for Loschky et al.'s (Journal of Vision, 15(6), 11, 2015) speculation that aerial scenes are categorized on the basis of image parts and individual objects. The findings were discussed in relation to theories of scene perception and their implications for automation development.

This paper explores the work of a particular document in issuing educational values. The document is the report "Embedding Values and Attitudes in Curriculum": "Shaping a Better Future", launched in 2021 and published by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Inspired by a practice-oriented method of document analysis and the concepts of modifying work and contexting, we show how the issue of values is modified and transformed through the text. We illustrate how different data is used in the transformation with examples from the Nordic countries. Our analysis revealed five modifications that transformed the issue of values from a global societal issue embedded in international and national regulations to an issue defined by the OECD's Learning Compass and its nine competencies. The report gives prominence to the individual learner and competencies needed to navigate towards a future of well-being. Hence, the issue of values is reduced to universal competencies, and the report can manoeuvrer its argument to avoid issuing values as something controversial. Finally, we argue that the ways in which values are issued implies a curriculum design that is not compatible with the traditional curriculum format based on "didaktik" and Nordic ambitions.

A pipeline robot suitable for miniature pipeline detection, namely π-II, was proposed in this paper. It features six wheel-leg mobile mechanisms arranged in a staggered manner, with a monocular fisheye camera located at the center of the front end. The proposed robot can be used to capture images during detection in miniature pipes with an inner diameter of 120 mm. To efficiently identify the robot's status within the pipeline, such as navigating in straight pipes, curved pipes, or T-shaped pipes, it is necessary to recognize and classify these specific pipeline landmarks accurately. For this purpose, the residual network model ResNet18 was employed to learn from the images of various pipeline landmarks captured by the fisheye camera. A detailed analysis of image characteristics of some common pipeline landmarks was provided, and a dataset of approximately 908 images was created in this paper. After modifying the outputs of the network model, the ResNet18 was trained according to the proposed datasets, and the final test results indicate that this modified network has a high accuracy rate in classifying various pipeline landmarks, demonstrating a promising application prospect of image detection technology based on deep learning in miniature pipelines. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it was crucial for the healthcare sector to detect and classify the virus using X-ray and CT scans. This has underlined the need for advanced Deep Learning and Machine Learning approaches to effectively spot and manage the virus's spread. Indeed, researchers worldwide have dynamically participated in the field by publishing an important number of papers across various databases. In this context, we present a bibliometric analysis focused on the detection and classification of COVID-19 using Deep Learning and Machine Learning techniques, based on X-Ray and CT images. We analyzed published documents of the six prominent databases (IEEE Xplore, ACM, MDPI, PubMed, Springer, and ScienceDirect) during the period between 2019 and November 2023. Our results showed that rising forces in economy and technology, especially India, China, Turkey, and Pakistan, began to compete with the great powers in the field of scientific research, which could be seen from their number of publications. Moreover, researchers contributed to Deep Learning techniques more than the use of Machine Learning techniques or the use of both together and preferred to submit their works to Springer Database. An important result was that more than 57% documents were published as Journal Articles, which was an important portion compared to other publication types (conference papers and book chapters). The western Pacific seamount area is abundant in both biological and mineral resources, making it a crucial location for international investigation of regional seabed resources. An essential stage in comprehending and advancing seamounts is gaining knowledge about the distribution characteristics and laws governing the seabed substrate. Deep-sea geological sampling is challenging because of the intricate nature of the deep-sea environment, resulting in increased difficulty in identifying and evaluating substrates. This study addresses the aforementioned issues by utilizing in-situ video footage obtained from the "Jiaolong" manned deep submersible and shipborne deep-water multibeam data. This data is used as a foundation for constructing a Western Pacific seamount areas substrate classification point set. Additionally, the paper introduces the mRMR-XGBoost substrate classification model. Substrate categorization in deep sea and mountainous regions has been successfully accomplished, yielding a classification accuracy of 92.5%. The classification experiments and box sampling results demonstrate that the mRMR-XGBoost substrate classification model proposed in this paper can efficiently use acoustic and optical data to accurately divide the substrate types in seamount areas, with better classification accuracy, when compared with commonly used machine learning models. This paper aims to describe a highly pervasive and under-reported context-specific phenomenon of entrepreneurship, specifically in light of the rise in different types of entrepreneurial activities in Africa. Explicably, this paper accepts that entrepreneurship typologies are different across the globe. Utilising the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA), a total of 1230 articles were discovered from Scopus, Web of Science, and ProQuest databases. Subsequently, a screening for suitability was conducted, resulting in the exclusion of 1200 articles based on criteria such as publication year, jurisdiction, and abstract review. Ultimately, 30 journal articles were imported into Zotero Reference Manager and Atlas for further examination. This study found that a state of entrepreneurship mishap exists in Africa. The utilisation of a uniform approach in supporting entrepreneurs is identified as another challenge. Lastly, this study introduces nine novel entrepreneur typologies: Lifepreneurs, Part-timers, Hobbypreneurs, Entremployees, Empreneurs, Techpreneurs, Carte-blanche, Profeneurs, and Smartpreneurs. These typologies serve as a conceptual framework for categorising various entrepreneurial initiatives based on a true reflection of the African entrepreneurial ecosystem, attributes, and key success factors. Theoretically, our paper fills a gap in the academic literature regarding the study of entrepreneurship in developing countries and its classifications. Practically, this paper could offer African policymakers a blueprint for supporting startups at a local level. The semiconductor industry is the core industry of the information age. As a key link in the semiconductor industry, wafer fabrication plays a key role in its development. In the testing stage of the wafer, each die of the wafer is detected and marked, and a wafer map with a certain spatial pattern can be formed. The analysis and classification of these spatial patterns can identify the cause of wafer defects, thereby improving production yield. However, as wafer size increases, line widths become smaller, etc., the probability of a mixed defect mode wafer pattern increases. Moreover, the mixed defect mode wafer map is more difficult to identify and classify than the single defect mode wafer map. Therefore, this paper proposes an improved deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) structure model for the recognition and classification of mixed defect pattern wafer maps. From the perspective of increasing the width of the DCNN, the improved network structure can avoid problems such as over-fitting and limited extraction of features due to the continuous deepening of the DCNN. The network is called Multi-Path DCNN (MP-DCNN) structure. This paper presents a classification model for eye diseases utilizing attention mechanisms to learn features from fundus images and structures. The study focuses on diagnosing glaucoma by extracting retinal vessels and the optic disc from fundus images using a ResU-Net-based segmentation model and Hough Circle Transform, respectively. The extracted structures and preprocessed images were inputted into a CNN-based multi-input model for training. Comparative evaluations demonstrated that our model outperformed other research models in classifying glaucoma, even with a smaller dataset. Ablation studies confirmed that using attention mechanisms to learn fundus structures significantly enhanced performance. The study also highlighted the challenges in normal case classification due to potential feature degradation during structure extraction. Future research will focus on incorporating additional fundus structures such as the macula, refining extraction algorithms, and expanding the types of classified eye diseases. With the advancement in living standards, there has been a significant surge in the quantity and diversity of household waste. To safeguard the environment and optimize resource utilization, there is an urgent demand for effective and cost-efficient intelligent waste classification methodologies. This study presents MRS-YOLO (Multi-Resolution Strategy-YOLO), a waste detection and classification model. The paper introduces the SlideLoss_IOU technique for detecting small objects, integrates RepViT of the Transformer mechanism, and devises a novel feature extraction strategy by amalgamating multi-dimensional and dynamic convolution mechanisms. These enhancements not only elevate the detection accuracy and speed but also bolster the robustness of the current YOLO model. Validation conducted on a dataset comprising 12,072 samples across 10 categories, including recyclable metal and paper, reveals a 3.6% enhancement in mAP50% accuracy compared to YOLOv8, coupled with a 15.09% reduction in volume. Furthermore, the model demonstrates improved accuracy in detecting small targets and exhibits comprehensive detection capabilities across diverse scenarios. Fruit fly species classification is a fine-grained task as there is a small gap between species. In order to effectively identify and improve the recognition of fruit flies, a fine-grained image-recognition method based on a multi-channel self-attention mechanism was studied and a network framework for fine-grained image recognition based on deep learning was designed in this paper. In this framework, long-term and short-term memory networks are used to extract the underlying features in fruit fly fine-grained images. By inputting the underlying features in the multi-channel self-attention mechanism module, the global and local attention feature maps can be obtained.The weighted attention feature map can also be obtained by multiplying the weight of each channel and the attention feature map. The fine-grained image features of fruit flies were obtained by summing the weighted attention feature map. A softmax classifier was used to process the features and complete the recognition of the fruit fly fine-grained images. Two fine-grained image datasets of fruit flies were applied as experimental objects. Dataset 1 and Dataset 2 contain 11,778 images and 20,580 images from 46 different categories of fruit flies, respectively. The Kappa coefficient was used as the evaluation index to identify fruit fly images with different targets using the method proposed herein. The experimental results showed that, as the number of attention channels increased, the Kappa coefficient gradually increased, suggesting an improvement in the accuracy of fine-grained image recognition. The fine-grained image features extracted by introducing a multi-channel self-attention mechanism exhibited more distinct boundaries with a small amount of overlap, demonstrating strong feature extraction capabilities. When dealing with fine-grained images with either simple or complex backgrounds, the method proposed in this paper has good performance and generalization ability. The recent adoption of deep learning-based models for the processing and coding of multimedia signals has brought noticeable gains in performance, which have established deep learning-based solutions as the uncontested state-of-the-art both for computer vision tasks, targeting machine consumption, as well as, more recently, coding applications, targeting human visualization. Traditionally, applications requiring both coding and computer vision processing require first decoding the bitstream and then applying the computer vision methods to the decompressed multimedia signals. However, the adoption of deep learning-based solutions enables the use of compressed domain computer vision processing, with gains in performance and computational complexity over the decompressed domain approach. For point clouds (PCs), these gains have been demonstrated in the single available compressed domain computer vision processing solution, named Compressed Domain PC Classifier, which processes JPEG Pleno PC coding (PCC) compressed streams using a PC classifier largely compatible with the state-of-the-art spatial domain PointGrid classifier. However, the available Compressed Domain PC Classifier presents strong limitations by imposing a single, specific input size which is associated to specific JPEG Pleno PCC configurations; this limits the compression performance as these configurations are not ideal for all PCs due to their different characteristics, notably density. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes the first Adaptive Compressed Domain PC Classifier solution which includes a novel adaptive bridge model that allows to process the JPEG Pleno PCC encoded bit streams using different coding configurations, now maximizing the compression efficiency. Experimental results show that the novel Adaptive Compressed Domain PC Classifier allows JPEG PCC to achieve better compression performance by not imposing a single, specific coding configuration for all PCs, regardless of its different characteristics. Today, recommendation systems are everywhere, making a variety of activities considerably more manageable. These systems help users by personalizing their suggestions to their interests and needs. They can propose various goods, including music, courses, articles, agricultural products, fertilizers, books, movies, and foods. In the case of research articles, recommendation algorithms play an essential role in minimizing the time required for researchers to find relevant articles. Despite multiple challenges, these systems must solve serious issues such as the cold-start problem, article privacy, and changing user interests. This research addresses these issues through the use of two techniques: hybrid recommendation systems and COOT optimization. To generate article recommendations, a hybrid recommendation system integrates features from content-based and graph-based recommendation systems. COOT optimization is used to optimize the results, inspired by the movement of water birds. The proposed method combines a graph-based recommendation system with COOT optimization to increase accuracy and reduce result inaccuracies. Twin Support Vector Machine (TSVM) is a powerful machine learning method that is usually used to solve binary classification problems. But although the classification speed and performance of TSVM is better than that of primitive support vector machine, TSVM still faces the problem of difficult parameter selection; therefore, to overcome the problem of parameter selection of TSVM, this paper proposes a Chaotic Mapping Dung Beetle Optimization Algorithm-based Twin Support Vector Machine (CMDBO-TSVM) for automatic parameter selection. Despite Thailand's renowned reputation for its multicultural culinary landscape, there is a noticeable gap in dedicated studies on Thai food classification. The layout, scale and spatial form of urban employment centers are important guidelines for the rational layout of public service facilities such as urban transportation, medical care, and education. In this paper, we use Internet cell phone positioning data to identify the workplace and residence of users in the Beijing city area and obtain commuting data of the employed to measure the employment center system in Beijing. Firstly, the employment density distribution is generated using the data of the working places of the employed persons, and the employment centers are identified based on the employment density of Beijing. Then, we use the business registration data of employment centers to measure the industrial diversity within the employment centers by using the ecological Shannon Wiener Diversity Index, and combine the commuting links between employment centers and places of residence to measure the energy level of each employment center, analyze the hinterland and sphere of influence of each center, and finally using the industrial diversity index of employment centers and the average commuting time of employed persons, combined with the K-Means clustering algorithm, to classify the employment centers in Beijing. The employment center identification and classification method based on big data constructed in this study can help solve the limitations of the previous employment center system research in terms of center identification and commuting linkage measurement due to large spatial units and lack of commuting data to a certain extent. User feedback in text classification serves multiple purposes, including refining models, enhancing datasets, adapting to user preferences, identifying emerging topics, and evaluating system performance, all of which contribute to the creation of more effective and user-centric classification systems. Many text classification techniques, including data mining, machine learning, and deep learning approaches, have been employed in previous literature, each making significant contributions to the field. This paper aims to contribute by guiding researchers seeking commonly used classification techniques and evaluation metrics in text processing. Additionally, it identifies the classification technique that generates higher accuracy and works as a basis for researchers to synthesize studies within their respective fields. Preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis (PRISMA) methodology is adapted to systematically review 28 current literatures on text classification on user feedback. The results obtained are guided by four research questions; paper distribution year, dataset source and size; evaluation metric and model accuracy. The review has shown that support vector machines (SVM) are frequently employed and consistently achieve high levels of accuracy as high as 97.17% with various datasets used. Lined rock caverns (LRCs) are becoming the preferred option for air storage at sites where there are no natural cavities, such as salt caverns, and this storage technology is being developed and utilized in markets around the world. The stability of the overlying rock mass is one of the key factors to ensure the successful operation of LRCs. In this paper, a stability assessment method is presented that first calculates the potential fracture surfaces of the surrounding rock based on the limiting stress field and the Mohr–Coulomb damage criterion, and then, based on these fracture surfaces, solves for the factor of safety defined on the basis of the concept of strength reserve. Using this method, this study evaluates the stability of two types of LRCs, tunnel- and silo-type, under three different geological conditions. The results of the analysis show that the silo-type LRCs are more economical for engineering purposes. Also, this paper provides some guidance for engineers in site selection and preliminary design. Realistic scenarios produce labeled data and unlabeled data, however, there are significant challenges in labeling time series data. It is imperative to effectively integrate the relationship between labeled and unlabeled data within semi-supervised classification model. This paper presents a novel semi-supervised classification method, namely Data Augmentation-Fast Shapelet Semi-Supervised Classification, which employs a data augmentation module to enhance the diversity of data and improve the generalization ability of the model, as well as a feature fusion module to enhance the semi-supervised network. A conditional generative adversarial network is used to synthesize excellent labeled time series samples to enhance the homogeneous data in the sample space, the fast shapelets method is used to quickly extract the important shape feature vectors in the time series, self-supervised and supervised learning are combined to fully learn the unlabeled and labeled data of the time series dataset. The joint loss function combines the loss functions of the two networks to optimize multiple objectives. Reinforcement learning is used to determine the weight coefficients of the joint loss function, at the same time, the reward function is modified to bias the supervisory loss, which improves the classification performance of the model under limited labeled data, and the model can also better achieve the semi-supervised classification task. The proposed method is validated on the UCR benchmark dataset, Electrocardiogram dataset, and Electroencephalogram dataset, the results show that the semi-supervised classification method can perform a more accurate semi-supervised classification of the time series, with an accuracy better than the comparison methods. In recent years, with the rapid development of deep learning technology, a large number of excellent convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been proposed, many of which are based on improvements to classical methods. Based on the Inception family of methods, depthwise separable convolution was applied to Xception to achieve lightweighting, and Inception-ResNet introduces residual connections to accelerate model convergence. However, existing improvements for the Inception module often neglect further enhancement of its receptive field, while increasing the receptive field of CNNs has been widely studied and proven to be effective in improving classification performance. Motivated by this fact, three effective expansion modules are proposed in this paper. The first expansion module, Inception expand (Inception-e) module, is proposed to improve the classification accuracy by concatenating more and deeper convolutional branches. To reduce the number of parameters for Inception e, this paper proposes a second expansion module—Equivalent Inception-e (Eception) module, which is equivalent to Inception-e in terms of feature extraction capability, but which suppresses the growth of the parameter quantity brought by the expansion by effectively reducing the redundant convolutional layers; on the basis of Eception, this paper proposes a third expansion module—Lightweight Eception (Lception) module, which crosses depthwise convolution with ordinary convolution to further effectively reduce the number of parameters. The three proposed modules have been validated on the Cifar10 dataset. The experimental results show that all these extensions are effective in improving the classification accuracy of the models, and the most significant effect is the Lception module, where Lception (rank = 4) on the Cifar10 dataset improves the accuracy by 1.5% compared to the baseline model (Inception module A) by using only 0.15 M more parameters. Fine-grained management of rice fields can enhance the yield and quality of rice crops. Challenges in achieving fine classification include interference from similar vegetation, the irregularity of natural field shapes, and complex scale variations. This paper introduces Rice Attention Cascade Network (RACNet), for the fine classification of rice fields in high-resolution satellite remote sensing imagery. The network employs the Hybrid Task Cascade network as the base framework and uses spectral and indices mixed multimodal data as input to reinforce the feature differentiation of similar vegetation. Initially, a Channel Attention Deformable-ResNet (CAD-ResNet) was designed to enhance the feature representation of rice on different channels. Deformable convolution improves the ability of CAD-ResNet to capture irregular field shapes. Then, to address the issue of complex scale changes, the multi-scale features extracted by the CAD-ResNet are progressively fused using an Asymptotic Feature Pyramid, reducing the loss of scale information between non-adjacent layers. Experiments on the Meishan rice dataset show that the proposed method is capable of accurate instance segmentation for fragmented or irregularly shaped rice fields. In the field of object detection, small object detection in remote sensing images is an important and challenging task. Due to limitations in size and resolution, most existing methods often suffer from localization blurring. To address the above problem, this paper proposes a remote sensing small object detection network based on adaptive channel attention and large kernel adaptation. This approach aims to enhance multi-channel information mining and multi-scale feature extraction to alleviate the problem of localization blurring. To enhance the model's focus on the features of small objects in remote sensing at varying scales, this paper introduces an adaptive channel attention block. This block applies adaptive attention weighting based on the input feature dimensions, guiding the model to better focus on local information. To mitigate the loss of local information by large kernel convolutions, a large kernel adaptive block is designed. The block dynamically adjusts the surrounding spatial receptive field based on the context around the detection area, improving the model's ability to extract information around remote sensing small objects. To address the recognition confusion during the sample classification process, a layer batch normalization method is proposed. This method enhances the consistency analysis capabilities of adaptive learning, thereby reducing the decline in the model's classification accuracy caused by sample misclassification. Understanding the data and reaching accurate conclusions are of paramount importance in the present era of big data. Machine learning and probability theory methods have been widely used for this purpose in various fields. One critically important yet less explored aspect is capturing and analyzing uncertainties in the data and model. Proper quantification of uncertainty helps to provide valuable information to obtain accurate diagnosis. This paper reviewed related studies conducted in the last 30 years (from 1991 to 2020) in handling uncertainties in medical data using probability theory and machine learning techniques. Medical data is more prone to uncertainty due to the presence of noise in the data. So, it is very important to have clean medical data without any noise to get accurate diagnosis. The sources of noise in the medical data need to be known to address this issue. Based on the medical data obtained by the physician, diagnosis of disease, and treatment plan are prescribed. Hence, the uncertainty is growing in healthcare and there is limited knowledge to address these problems. Our findings indicate that there are few challenges to be addressed in handling the uncertainty in medical raw data and new models. The accurate classification of human activities in crime scenes during forensics (criminalistics) is of utmost importance in classifying suspicious and unlawful activities, easing their acceptability and interpretability by judges during legal procedures in courts or by other non-experts in the field of forensics. This paper implements machine learning (ML) algorithms: support vector machine (SVM) and decision tree (DT), to demonstrate with a high accuracy, how data emanating from smartphones' sensors reveal and isolate relevant information about static and dynamic human activities in criminalistics. Smartphones' data from five different sensors (accelerometer, gravity, orientation, Gyroscope and light), related to ten recurrent crime scenes activities, grouped into three classes of events (normal, felony and none-felony events) are classified by the proposed algorithms, with novelty being the classification decisions based on the entire period of the events and not instantaneous decision makings. Three independent data-subsets were made, with permutations done between them and at each time, two sets used for training and the third set used for testing. Time- and frequency-domain features were initially used separately and then combined for the model training and testing. The best average training accuracies of 100% and 97.8% were obtained for the DT and SVM, respectively, and the testing accuracies of 89.1% were obtained for both algorithms. We therefore believe that these results will serve as a solid persuasive and convincing argument to judges and non-experts of the field of forensics to accept and easily interpret computer-aided classification of suspicious activities emanating from criminalistic studies. To address the challenges in recognizing various types of falls, which often exhibit high similarity and are difficult to distinguish, this paper proposes a human fall classification system based on the SE-Residual Concatenate Network (SE-RCNet) with adaptive weighted fusion. First, we designed the innovative SE-RCNet network, incorporating SE modules after dense and residual connections to automatically recalibrate feature channel weights and suppress irrelevant features. Subsequently, this network was used to train and classify three types of radar images: time–distance images, time–distance images, and distance–distance images. By adaptively fusing the classification results of these three types of radar images, we achieved higher action recognition accuracy. Experimental results indicate that SE-RCNet achieved F1-scores of 94.0%, 94.3%, and 95.4% for the three radar image types on our self-built dataset. The main objective of this paper is to present a repository of image databases whose features are augmented with embedded vector field (VF) features. The repository is designed to provide the user with image databases that enhance machine learning (ML) classification. Also, six VFs are provided, and the user can embed them into her/his own image database with the help of software named ELPAC. Three of the VFs generate real-shaped singular points (SPs): springing, sinking, and saddle. The other three VFs generate seven kinds of SPs, which include the real-shaped SPs and four complex-shaped SPs: repelling and attracting (out and in) spirals and clockwise and counterclockwise orbits (centers). Using the repository, this work defines the locations of the SPs according to the image objects and the mappings between the SPs' shapes if separate VFs are embedded into the same image. Next, this paper produces recommendations for the user on how to select the most appropriate VF to be embedded in an image database so that the augmented SP shapes enhance ML classification. Examples of images with embedded VFs are shown in the text to illustrate, support, and validate the theoretical conclusions. Thus, the contributions of this paper are the derivation of the SP locations in an image; mappings between the SPs of different VFs; and the definition of an imprint of an image and an image database in a VF. The advantage of classifying an image database with an embedded VF is that the new database enhances and improves the ML classification statistics, which motivates the design of the repository so that it contains image features augmented with VF features. Knowledge of land is of central importance to manage the impact of mankind upon the environment. The understanding and treatment of land vary greatly across different regions and communities, making the description of land highly specific to each locality. To address the larger global issues, such as world food production or climate change mitigation, one needs to have a common standardized understanding of the biosphere cover and use of land. Different governments and institutions established national systems to describe thematic content of land within their jurisdictions. These systems are all valid and tuned to address various national needs. However, their integration at regional or global levels is lacking. Integrating data from widely divergent sources to create world datasets not only requires standards, but also an approach to integrate national and regional land cover classification systems. The ISO 19144 series, developed through the collaboration between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), offers a meta-language for the integration of disparate land classification systems, enhancing interoperability, data sharing, and national to global data integration and comparison. This paper provides an overview of classification system concepts, different stages for the development of standards in ISO and the status of different standards in the ISO 19144 series. It also explores the critical role of the ISO 19144 series in standardizing land cover and land use classification systems. Drawing on practical case studies, the paper underscores the series' potential to support global sustainable development goals and lays out a path for its future development and application. Using these standards, we gain not only a tool for harmonizing land classification, but also a critical level for advancing sustainable development and environmental stewardship worldwide. This paper seeks to examine the questions of what criteria definitions of Artificial Intelligence (AI) use to define AI, what the disagreements that revolve around the term AI are based on, and what correlations can be drawn to other parameters. Framed as a problem of classification, a random sample of 45 definitions from various text sources was subjected to a qualitative content analysis. The criteria found are concluded in five dimensions, namely (1) learning ability, (2) human likeness, (3) state of "mind", (4) complexity of the problem, and (5) successfulness. Further, the results support the view that there is no consensus neither on which of these criteria are crucial to define AI nor on how these criteria must be fulfilled. By opposing the frequencies of the dimensions found with the metadata collected, it can be seen that most of these, e.g., country, scientific field, or gender of the author, are statistically independent of content variables, while the medium in which the definition was published shows a strong correlation. Since different mediums target different purposes and different readers, it must be taken into account that writing a definition of AI is to be seen in the context of its distribution area and its goal. In complex networks, contrastive learning has emerged as a crucial technique for acquiring discriminative representations from graph data. Maximizing the similarity among relevant sample pairs while minimizing that among irrelevant pairs is pivotal in contrastive learning. Therefore, careful consideration must be given to the design of sample pairs in contrastive learning. However, existing node-level self-supervised contrastive learning often treats the enhanced representation of a central node as a positive sample, while considering representations of all other nodes as negative samples. This approach can lead to conflicts in downstream tasks on some graph data, as nodes of the same class are treated as negatives during learning. Precision in sample pair design is essential for enhancing the performance of contrastive learning. To address this issue, this paper introduces a negative sample debiased sampling contrastive learning (NDSCL), specifically tailored for node classification tasks. In particular, this method integrates contrastive learning with semi-supervised learning. A trained classifier assigns pseudo-labels to unlabeled data, and debiased sampling is applied to negative samples. Unlike other methods that focus on negative sample selection, NDSCL also addresses the imbalance in pseudo-label distribution by employing debiasing techniques. Finally, in conjunction with diffusion augmentation, the model is provided with diverse views as inputs to maximize the retention of underlying semantic information. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model significantly outperforms baseline models in node-level classification tasks across multiple network datasets. Supervised learning has been the cornerstone of many successful medical imaging applications. However, its reliance on large labeled datasets poses significant challenges, especially in the medical domain, where data annotation is time-consuming and expensive. In response, self-supervised learning (SSL) has emerged as a promising alternative, leveraging unlabeled data to learn meaningful representations without explicit supervision. This paper provides a detailed overview of supervised learning and its limitations in medical imaging, underscoring the need for more efficient and scalable approaches. This study uses deep learning methods to explore the Internet of Things (IoT) network intrusion detection method based on the CIC-IoT-2023 dataset. This dataset contains extensive data on real-life IoT environments. Based on this, this study proposes an effective intrusion detection method. Apply seven deep learning models, including Transformer, to analyze network traffic characteristics and identify abnormal behavior and potential intrusions through binary and multivariate classifications. Compared with other papers, we not only use a Transformer model, but we also consider the model's performance in the multi-class classification. Although the accuracy of the Transformer model used in the binary classification is lower than that of DNN and CNN + LSTM hybrid models, it achieves better results in the multi-class classification. The accuracy of binary classification of our model is 0.74% higher than that of papers that also use Transformer on TON-IOT. In the multi-class classification, our best-performing model combination is Transformer, which reaches 99.40% accuracy. Fractals are ubiquitous in the natural world, and their connection with phase transitions has been widely observed. This study investigates mechanisms of fractal formation from the perspective of phase transitions. A novel set of probability calculation methods is introduced to establish a direct link between fractals and phase transitions. Notably, in the Ising model, a specific category of boundary lattice points undergoes a phase transition when the associated weight reaches ∼0.4. The identified correlation between phase transitions and fractals suggests the emergence of fractal structures at this critical weight. Lane line images have the essential attribute of large-scale variation and complex scene information, and the similarity between adjacent lane lines is high, which can easily cause classification errors. And remote lane lines are difficult to recognize due to visual angle changes in width. To address this issue, this paper proposes an effective lane detection framework, which is a hybrid feature fusion network that enhances multiple spatial features and distinguishes key features throughout the entire lane line segment. It enhances and fuses lane line features at multiscale to enhance the feature representation of lane line images, especially at the far end. Firstly, in order to enhance the correlation of multiscale lane features, a multi-head self attention is used to construct a multi-space attention enhancement module for feature enhancement in multispace. Secondly, a spatial separable convolutional branch is designed for the jumping layer structure connecting multiscale lane line features. While retaining feature information of different scales, important lane areas in multiscale feature information are emphasized through the allocation of spatial attention weights. Finally, considering that lane lines are elongated areas in the image, and the background information in the image is much more abundant than lane line information, the flexibility of traditional pooling operations in capturing widely existing anisotropic contexts in actual environments is limited. Therefore, before embedding feature output branches, strip pooling is introduced to refine the representation of lane line information and optimize model performance. The experimental results show that the accuracy on the TuSimple dataset reaches 96.84%, and the F1 score on the CULane dataset reaches 75.9%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
