Objective To develop the optimal US scanning protocol for the diagnosis of calcium pyrophosphate crystal deposition (CPPD) disease. Methods In this cross-sectional study, consecutive patients with a crystal-proven diagnosis of CPPD disease, and age-, sex-matched disease controls with a negative synovial fluid analysis were prospectively enrolled in two Italian Institutions. Four rheumatologists, blinded to patients' clinical details, performed US examinations using a standardized scanning protocol including 20 joints (shoulders, elbows, wrists, metacarpophalangeal joints from second to fifth fingers, hips, knees, ankles). CPPD was identified as presence/absence, according to the OMERACT definitions. Reduced US scanning protocols were developed by selecting the most informative joints to be imaged by US using the LASSO technique. Patients were randomly divided into training and validation sets. Their diagnostic accuracy was tested comparing the area under the receiver operating characteristic curves. Results The number of participants enrolled was 204: 102 with CPPD disease and 102 disease controls [age, mean (s. d.): 71.3 (12.0) vs 71.1 (13.5) years; female: 62.8% vs 57.8%]. The median number of joints with US evidence of CPPD was 5 [interquartile range (IQR): 4–7] and 0 (IQR: 0–1) in patients with CPPD disease and controls, respectively (P  < 0.01). The detection of CPPD in ≥2 joints using a reduced scanning protocol (bilateral assessment of knees, wrists and hips) showed a sensitivity of 96.7% (95% CI: 82.8, 99.9) and a specificity of 100 (95% CI: 88.8, 100.0) for the diagnosis of CPPD disease and had good feasibility [mean (s. d.): 12.5 (5.3) min]. The present study aimed to explore the perceptions of spirituality and spiritual care among nurses who work in three different countries with different cultures as well as the factors influencing their perception. This is a cross-sectional multicultural study conducted with a total of 1090 nurses from Türkiye, Albania, and Italy. Data were collected through the "Individual Information Form" and the "Spirituality and Spiritual Care Rating Scale". Nurses' mean score on the Spirituality and Spiritual Care Rating Scale was above average. It was also found that country, marital status, religious belief, Islamic religion, training for spiritual care, and using spiritual practices to cope with difficulties or illnesses influenced nurses' perception of spirituality and spiritual care. It was concluded that nurses from the three countries associated spirituality and spiritual care with religion and that some personal characteristics influenced their perceptions of spiritual care. Instagram is the social network with the largest number of adolescent users in Italy; it is also the social network with the largest number of suicide‐related posts. Suicide is the third leading cause of death in Italy in the 15–19 age group. This study aims to describe Italian posts on Instagram related to suicide and to investigate whether there are differences in the number of likes, comments, and hashtags in relation to the characteristics of the posts. We searched for Italian‐language Instagram posts by typing '#suicidio', an Italian translation of the English word 'suicide', and found 303 posts between January and May 2022. Most of the posts were written by ordinary people, while only a small percentage of posts were written by professionals; moreover, the content was predominantly biographical and pro‐suicide, and most posts had no reference to adolescence. Posts with a neutral approach received the most likes, while posts with a negative or positive approach to suicide or that contained references to psychiatric disorders had the most hashtags. These results provide insight regarding guidelines that can be implemented for suicide online prevention and encourage psychologists to enhance online prevention and support using the online community inherent to the Instagram social network. Glenohumeral internal rotation deficit (GIRD) may affect overhead athletes and contribute to shoulder injury. To assess data on passive shoulder range of motion (ROM) in young elite swimmers and to determine the prevalence of anatomical and pure GIRD (aGIRD and pGIRD, respectively) in a large sample size of asymptomatic elite swimmers with a new classification method. Cross-sectional study. Research laboratory. A total of 752 asymptomatic elite swimmers were recruited by voluntary participation (391 males and 361 females; mean age, 15.88 ± 2.31 years). Passive glenohumeral rotational ROM was measured bilaterally to investigate the prevalence of aGIRD and pGIRD. Evaluations were performed with athletes at rest before any training or competition. Glenohumeral internal rotation deficit and associated aGIRD and pGIRD in elite youth swimmers by identifying a standard classification procedure. Glenohumeral internal rotation deficits were found in 136 participants (18.1%). Anatomical GIRD was present in 28 cases (3.7%), whereas pGIRD was observed in 108 cases (14.4%). No significant differences were found regarding GIRD between sex, age, age group, years of training, breathing side, and distance. Swimmers with pGIRD showed significantly less dominant internal rotation, total ROM, and external rotation gain (P <.01) than swimmers with aGIRD; conversely, swimmers with aGIRD showed significantly less nondominant internal rotation, external rotation, and total ROM than swimmers with pGIRD (P <.01). Glenohumeral internal rotation deficit is a relatively common condition in asymptomatic elite youth swimmers; as to not overestimate this condition, aGIRD and pGIRD have to be distinguished. Problematic mobile phone use (PMPU) may be the biggest non-drug addiction of the twenty-first century. This requires that sound – and possibly brief – measurement instruments are available, especially for adolescents, who are particularly at risk of PMPU. One of the most widely used short instruments to assess PMPU is the brief version of the Mobile Phone Problem Use Scale (MPPUS-10). However, its dimensional structure is unclear, and the growth of PMPU among youth requires deeply testing the MPPUS-10 psychometric functioning with adolescents. The goal of this study was to investigate the psychometric proprieties of the MPPUS-10 in Italian adolescents, by particularly focusing on dimensionality, and analysing reliability and validity. Participants were 678 adolescents attending high school. Through exploratory factor analyses, the bidimensionality of the MPPUS-10 was supported, and it was corroborated by a multi-group cross-validation analysis. The internal consistency of the scale was good. As regards validity, the MPPUS-10 total and subscale scores resulted to be significantly correlated with time spent on the mobile phone and craving for mobile phone, self-esteem, and with symptoms of problem gaming and Internet addiction. Prosodic aspects of cross-linguistic contact are under-researched, especially past contact that has subsequently ceased. In this paper, we investigate declarative and polar question tunes of contemporary Cretan Greek, a regional variety of Greek whose speakers were in contact with Venetian speakers during the four and half centuries of Venetian rule on the island, from 1204 to 1669. The F0 contours of the Cretan tunes and alignment of peaks and troughs of interest with the nuclear vowel are compared to the corresponding tunes in Venetian dialect and Venetian Italian and to those in Athenian (Standard) Greek, which are used as control. The data (1610 declarative utterances and 698 polar questions) were drawn from natural speech corpora based on pragmatic criteria: broad focus for declaratives, broad focus, and information-seeking interpretation for polar questions. The pitch contour shapes of the tunes are modeled using polynomial basis functions, and the F0 alignment points are determined analytically. The results show the robustness of contact effects almost three and a half centuries after regular contact ceased and indicate that the shapes of the F0 contours of Cretan and Venetian declarative and polar question tunes are similar. In addition, Cretan alignment patterns are similar to Venetian and significantly different from Athenian. Background: This multicentre case–control study aimed to identify risk factors associated with non-operative treatment failure for patients with CT scan Hinchey Ib-IIb and WSES Ib-IIa diverticular abscesses. Methods: This study included a cohort of adult patients experiencing their first episode of CT-diagnosed diverticular abscess, all of whom underwent initial non-operative treatment comprising either antibiotics alone or in combination with percutaneous drainage. The cohort was stratified based on the outcome of non-operative treatment, specifically identifying those who required emergency surgical intervention as cases of treatment failure. Multivariable logistic regression analysis to identify independent risk factors associated with the failure of non-operative treatment was employed. Results: Failure of conservative treatment occurred for 116 patients (27.04%). CT scan Hinchey classification IIb (aOR 2.54, 95%CI 1.61;4.01, P < 0.01), tobacco smoking (aOR 2.01, 95%CI 1.24;3.25, P < 0.01), and presence of air bubbles inside the abscess (aOR 1.59, 95%CI 1.00;2.52, P = 0.04) were independent predictors of failure. In the subgroup of patients with abscesses > 5 cm, percutaneous drainage was not associated with the risk of failure or success of the non-operative treatment (aOR 2.78, 95%CI − 0.66;3.70, P = 0.23). Conclusions: Non-operative treatment is generally effective for diverticular abscesses. Tobacco smoking's role as an independent risk factor for treatment failure underscores the need for targeted behavioural interventions in diverticular disease management. IIb Hinchey diverticulitis patients, particularly young smokers, require vigilant monitoring due to increased risks of treatment failure and septic progression. Homogeneous waiting group (HWG) criteria are central to the patient referral process, guiding primary care physicians and hospitalists in directing patient care to specialists. This cross-sectional observational study, conducted in South Tyrol, Italy, in 2023, aimed to assess the implementation and impact of HWG criteria on healthcare from the perspective of general practitioners and hospital physicians. A questionnaire was developed to gain knowledge about referral practices as perceived by general practitioners and specialists. The survey included 313 participants (82 general practitioners and 231 hospital physicians) and was designed to capture a range of factors influencing the application of HWG criteria, including communication and collaboration practices. The results showed moderate levels of familiarity with HWG criteria and opinions about the need for criteria refinement among hospitalists, indicating that further education and refinement of these criteria are warranted. Both general practitioners and hospital physicians expressed dissatisfaction with the current specialist referral system, highlighting the significant gaps in effective communication and collaboration. The survey also demonstrated the influence of patient demands and waiting times on referral practices, and the need for streamlined and accessible specialist care. This study highlights the need for improvement and adaptation of HWG criteria to better meet the needs of healthcare providers and patients in South Tyrol. By addressing the identified gaps in communication, collaboration, and education related to the HWG system, the efficiency, effectiveness, and patient-centeredness of the referral process can be improved, ultimately leading to better health outcomes. Introduction: Despite high prevalence of hypertension, few studies have analysed the adverse effects (AEs) of antihypertensive medications, especially in older patients. Aim: To investigate the prevalence and associated factors of antihypertensive-related AEs, focusing on the influence of age on treatment tolerability. Methods: We retrospectively investigated antihypertensive-related AEs in patients evaluated at the Hypertension Clinic of Careggi Hospital, Florence, Italy, between January 2017 and July 2020. Multivariable regression models were generated to analyse variables associated with AEs in the overall sample and in participants ≥75 years. Results: Among 622 subjects (mean age 64.8 years, 51.4% female), the most frequently reported AEs were calcium-channel blockers (CCB)-related ankle swelling (26.8%) and ACEi-induced cough (15.1%). Ankle swelling was more common in older patients (35.7% vs 22.3%, p = 0.001; odds ratio [OR] 1.94, 95%CI 1.289-2.912) and was independently associated with Body Mass Index (BMI, adjOR 1.073) and angiotensin-receptor antagonists (adjOR 1.864). The association with BMI was confirmed in older patients (adjOR 1.134). ACEi-induced cough showed similar prevalence in younger and older patients (13.9% vs 15.6%, p = 0.634), being independently associated with female sex (adjOR 2.118), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD, adjOR 2.488) and SNRI therapy (adjOR 8.114). The association with GERD was confirmed in older patients (adjOR 3.238). Conclusions: CCB-related ankle swelling and ACEi-induced cough represent the most common antihypertensive-related AEs, also at old age. Older patients showed a two-fold increased risk of ankle swelling, that was also independently associated with BMI. Background: Physical activity is an important predictor of quality of life in older adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Unfortunately, most T2D adults adopt a sedentary lifestyle. The randomized, controlled TRIPL-A trial aims to verify the effect of a personalized, discontinuous exercise program on a sedentary lifestyle of T2D older adults. Methods: A total of 305 T2D patients (mean age ± SD: 68.8 ± 3.3 years) were divided into a control arm receiving only behavioral counseling and an intervention arm of an 18-month supervised discontinuous exercise program (ERS). The primary outcomes were the changes in sitting time (ST) and metabolic equivalent (MET) values, both evaluated by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire short form. A repeated measures ANOVA with Bonferroni correction for multiple comparisons was used to compare study outcomes. Results: The ST and MET differed significantly during the study compared to the control group (p = 0.028 and p = 0.004, respectively). In the intervention group, a decrease from baseline in ST at 6 months (p = 0.01) and an increase in MET values at 6 months (p = 0.01) up to 12 months (p < 0.01) were found. No significant differences were found for the other variables. Conclusions: Beneficial lifestyle changes were found within the first year of intervention. Introduction: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) may act as a driver or propagator of systemic inflammation. In turn, cytokine release can modify thromboelastographic (TEG) tests which are commonly used for anticoagulation monitoring. In this context, antithrombin (AT) supplementation might further modify TEG. Methods: This is a pre-specified sub-study of the “Randomized Controlled Trial of Antithrombin Supplementation During Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation” study (investigator-initiated, randomized, single-blind, two-arm trial) conducted in two Italian ECMO referral ICUs. Adult patients requiring vv-ECMO for respiratory failure and undergoing unfractioned heparin (UFH) administration were enrolled and randomized whether to receive AT supplementation. Plasma samples for cytokine assay (IL-8, IL-10, IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α and Pro-ADM) and heparinase TEG were collected from every patient before ECMO start, 24 h and 72 h after ECMO start, before ECMO removal, and 7 days after ECMO removal or upon ICU discharge whichever happened first. AT concentration, coagulation and clinical data were collected before ECMO start and at pre-fixed time points. Results: Thirty-nine patients were enrolled (21 treatments, 18 controls). TEG-R had a weak-to-moderate positive correlation with IL-8, IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-α and a moderate positive correlation with Pro-ADM. TEG-ANG showed a weak negative correlation with IL-8, IL-6 and TNF-α, while TEG-MA negatively correlated with IL-8, TNF-α and Pro-ADM. AT supplementation seemed to modify the association between TEG-MA and IL-8, IL-10 and Pro-ADM; conversely, AT did not affect the relationship among TEG-R or TEG-ANG and the studied cytokines. Conclusions: High concentrations of systemic cytokines correlated with longer reaction times and decreased angle and amplitude at TEG, suggesting that an increase in inflammation is related with hypocoagulability as revealed by thromboelastography. Simple Summary: Allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) represents the only potentially curative treatment for high-risk acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), but up to 50% of patients relapse after allo-SCT. The salvage therapy after disease recurrence is not standardized, and the outcome remains unfavorable. Therefore, there is a growing interest in determining the most effective approach to manage the post-transplant phase with the goal of promptly detecting disease recurrence or preventing it. In this context, we conducted a retrospective study to assess the overall survival (OS) of patients with relapsed AML or MDS after allo-SCT with the aim of acquiring useful information for identifying the best prospective therapeutic strategy. The OS was evaluated according to the type of therapy, whether it included donor lymphocyte infusion (DLI), the timing of administration, and whether it occurred during an overt hematological relapse or in a preemptive setting. Background: Disease relapse after allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) is the main challenge for curing acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). We investigated the overall survival (OS) after allo-SCT relapse according to different therapeutic approaches. Methods: We analyzed 134 patients who relapsed after allo-SCT performed between 2015 and 2021 at Saint-Antoine University Hospital, Paris and Spedali Civili di Brescia, Brescia. Of these, 103 (77%) were treated, comprising 69/103 (67%) who received therapy in overt relapse and 34/103 (33%) who were treated in a pre-emptive manner when molecular/cytogenetics recurrence or mixed chimerism occurred. The treatment was donor lymphocyte infusion (DLI)-based for 40/103 (39%) patients. Results: The 1-, 2-, and 5-year OS of patients treated with DLI (n = 40) was 67%, 34%, and 34%, respectively, for those treated preventively (n = 20) and 43%, 20%, and 20%, respectively, for those treated in overt relapse (n = 20) (p < 0.01). The 1-, 2-, and 5-year OS of patients treated without DLI (n = 63) was 54%, 40%, and 26%, respectively, for those treated preventively (n = 14) and 17%, 5%, and 0%, respectively, for those treated in overt relapse (n = 49) (p < 0.01). One of career counseling goals is to understand how to promote the well-being of people facing the unforeseen challenges of the changing world of work. The study investigates the relationship between psychological flexibility, career adaptability and well-being. 498 adult participants reply to Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II, Career Adapt-Abilities Scale, Satisfaction with life scale, and Flourishing Scale. Results show that career adaptability mediates the relationship between psychological flexibility and life satisfaction as well as between psychological flexibility and flourishing, suggesting that career adaptability could be considered a personal resource that enhances the effects of psychological flexibility on hedonic and eudemonic well-being, fostering the ability to adapt to changes in self and situation. There are no Italian studies on the self-production of marijuana. Finding out about the various aspects of small-scale marijuana cultivation from the point of view of the growers. Semi-structured questionnaire administered to a convenience sample. One-third had cultivated their plants indoors in their own or friends' homes, the remainder had cultivated outdoors. The interviewees cultivated to obtain a better quality product, out of love for the marijuana plant, to save money, to alleviate health problems, for ethical reasons, to combat the narcomafia. One in three had sold marijuana to make a profit, to improve sociality, or out of solidarity. Customers were found through friends or word of mouth. Economic factors (quality, commercial value, quantity, costs, production times) were the main considerations for the definition of the selling price. The COVID-19 medical emergency has ended worldwide, yet the psychological impact of these years of unprecedented changes on students' lives still needs to be deepened. Methods: This study aims to assess and compare COVID-19-related stressors (relationships and academic life; isolation; and fear of contagion) and psychophysical symptoms reported by 637 university students at three times, i.e., April 2020 (n = 197), April 2021 (n = 200), and April 2022 (n = 240). The impact of COVID-19-related stressors on psychophysical symptoms within each time was also tested. Results: In April 2022, perceived isolation and fear of contagion decreased from the peak registered in April 2021, but stress related to relationships and academic life remained high. An ongoing increase in psychophysical symptoms was found. More than 50% of students reported clinical levels of sleep disorders, depression, psychoticism, and interpersonal sensitivity. In April 2022, students still perceiving stress related to relationships and academic life and isolation were at risk for anxiety, somatization, and sleep disorders. Students still perceiving stress related to fear of contagion were also at risk for depression, obsessive–compulsive symptoms, and psychoticism. Conclusion: The findings emphasized the long-lasting effects of COVID-19-related stress on students' psychophysical health. Background: Nocturnal infant crying is often empirically treated with acid suppressants. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and characteristics of gastroesophageal reflux (GER) in infants with unexplained persistent crying. Methods: We enrolled all infants (0–12 months) referred for suspected GER disease who underwent esophageal impedance–pH monitoring (MII-pH) for unexplained persistent crying not improved by parental reassurance, dietary modification or alginate. Gastrointestinal malformation/surgery, neurological impairment and infections were exclusion criteria. Demographic and anthropometric parameters, GER symptoms and questionnaires (I-GERQ-R) and MII-pH data were recorded and analyzed. Normal MII-pH was defined when acid exposure was <3%, symptom index was <50% and symptom association probability was <95%. Acid exposure >5% and >10% was also considered. Statistical analysis was performed using Chi-Square and univariate and multivariable regression analysis. Results: We included 50 infants (median age 3.5 months) who fulfilled the study criteria: 30 (60%) had normal MII-pH. I-GERQ-R score was abnormal in 33 (66%) infants, and 21/33 (64%) had normal MII-pH (p = 0.47). In the 26 (52%) infants with nocturnal crying, MII-pH was normal in 16 (54%) (p = 0.82). Associated regurgitation (>3 or >10 episodes/die) did not predict abnormal MII-pH (p = 0.74, p = 0.82, respectively). Univariate and multivariable regression analysis did not identify any clinical variable significantly associated with abnormal MII-pH. Background: Severe asthma can cause poor health status, poor health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and an impaired functioning at work. However, to date, limited data are available on the impact of the biological therapies on such outcomes. Therefore, aim of the present study was to prospectively assess the clinical, quality of life and work functionality issues in severe asthma patients both at baseline and after 6 months of biological therapies and determine which individual, pathological and occupational factors can influence such parameters. Methods: Fifty-two patients were enrolled between December 2022 and June 2023. Patients' personal, clinical, functional and occupational features were assessed. The Short Form Health Survey (SF-12), the Work Productivity and Activity Impairment (WPAI) questionnaire and the Work Ability Index (WAI) were employed to assess HRQoL, the employee's productivity and perception of work ability, respectively. Results: Among the enrolled patients, 30 (57.70%) were employed. Biological therapy induced a significant improvement in clinical and functional parameters, e.g., FEV1% (72 ± 12 vs.87 ± 13%; 72 ± 14 vs. 86 ± 14%), FVC% (92 ± 11 vs. 101 ± 11%; 90 ± 13 vs. 98 ± 14%) and FEV1/FVC (62 ± 11 vs. 71 ± 8%; 64 ± 9 vs. 70 ± 8%) in workers and non-workers, respectively (P < 0.001). Comparably, the perception of life quality significantly improved, as physical and mental health scores, in the overall cohort, increased from 40.7 ± 10.3 and 48.5 ± 8.5 to 46.8 ± 8.6 and 51.6 ± 6.4, respectively (P < 0.001). The work ability perception significantly improved from a moderate to a good one (34 ± 6 vs. 40 ± 6, P = 0.001). A significant reduction in the absenteeism (19 ± 15 vs. 3 ± 11%; P < 0.001) and presenteeism rate (53 ± 24 vs. 29 ± 26%; P < 0.001), and an improvement in daily (40 ± 27.5% vs. 28.9 ± 24.7%, P < 0.001, in the overall population) and work activities (57 ± 25 vs. 29 ± 27%, P < 0.001) was determined. Gender, age, symptoms control and pulmonary functionality were correlated with the physical and mental health perception, daily activity impairment and work ability. Conclusions: Our study pointed out that biological therapies improved clinical, general life and occupational outcomes in patients with severe asthma. The correlation between clinical aspects and psychological and occupational issues suggest the relevance for a multidisciplinary management of the disease for an effective participation of patients in the world of work. Lateralization is a key aspect of brain architecture and handedness is its primary manifestation. The Edinburgh Handedness Inventory (EHI) and the laterality quotient (LQ) assess the direction and consistency of handedness and require translation and cross-cultural adaptation to guarantee construct validity. We developed a standardized Italian EHI version. The developed Italian version was tested on 202 Italian subjects, classified into three hand types based on their LQs: right, mixed, and left. The frequency of left-handedness in Italians and other populations was compared to previous data. LQs from the twenty- and the ten-item original inventories were also compared. We conducted a factorial analysis. Mcdonald's Omega tested internal consistency. The prevalence of left-handedness was 6.4%, consistent with prior findings in Italian samples and other EHI translations. Age was the only socio-demographic variable that significantly affected the LQ. The internal consistency of the Italian EHI was excellent. Handedness is a feature of several cognitive functions and some neuropsychological diseases; it is influenced by socio-demographic and cultural factors and the instrument used to assess it. To provide a consistent and comparable evaluation of the construct, we recommend using this validated Italian translation of the EHI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to evaluate audiological characteristics and parents' opinions on hearing device use in children with unilateral sensorineural hearing loss (USNHL) who attended a tertiary-level audiologic center. The medical charts of 70 children aged 6 to 12 years with USNHL were reviewed. In 51.4% of cases, the children were diagnosed with USNHL after the age of 2 years. The main causes of USNHL were congenital cytomegalovirus infection (21.4%) and unilateral cochlear nerve hypoplasia (12.9%). The percentage of patients wearing a hearing device was 45.7% (32/70); of these, 28 (87.5%) wore a conventional hearing aid, 2 (6.3%) a CROS device, and 2 (6.3%) a cochlear implant. Regarding the choice to use a hearing device, no significant differences were found between the subcategories of hearing loss degree (p = 0.55) and audiometric configuration (p = 0.54). Most parents of children with mild-to-severe USNHL observed improved attention (90.9%), and reduced fatigue and restlessness (86.4%) using the hearing aid. These children performed significantly better on all audiological tests (speech perception in quiet and in noise conditions, and sound localization) while wearing the hearing aid (p < 0.001). The present study investigates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the management of Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer (NMSC) in the head and neck region. Conducted at the University Hospital "Le Scotte" in Siena, Italy, the research includes 111 patients treated from 2018 to 2021. The study aims to understand how pandemic-related healthcare changes affected NMSC treatment, focusing on differences in diagnosis and management before and during the pandemic. Methods involved retrospective analysis of patient demographics, clinical characteristics, lesion details, and treatment modalities, using Jamovi software (version 1.6) for statistical analysis. Results revealed the scalp as the most common NMSC site, with Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) being the predominant histotype. A significant rise in Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) cases and a reduction in surgery duration were noted during the pandemic. The shift to local anesthesia was more pronounced, reflecting the necessity to adapt to healthcare limitations. Despite the disruptions caused by the pandemic, there was no significant drop in NMSC cases, which is attributed to the noticeable nature of head and neck lesions. In conclusion, this study highlights that the COVID-19 pandemic significantly influenced surgical practices in NMSC management, emphasizing the need for effective healthcare strategies that balance quality patient care with public health safety measures.
