This paper reviews the process of adapting the Carbon Literacy for Museums Toolkit to develop a course specifically for the archive sector, Carbon Literacy for Archives, Records and Special Collections. This toolkit was launched to the sector in spring 2024. It discusses why carbon literacy (CL) is important, covering the benefits, co-benefits and what CL is. It examines the impact of carbon literacy training (CLT) on greenhouse gas emission and energy use reduction, and why CLT is so effective in generating the transformational behavioural change that is needed to create a sustainable future.Este artículo revisa el proceso de adaptación del kit de herramientas Carbon Literacy for Museums para desarrollar un curso específico para el sector de archivos, Carbon Literacy for Archives, Records and Special Collections. While UN reports indicate increasingly dire consequences of climate change, the political will to initiate rapid decarbonization is lacking, as nations fail to meet targets set by international agreements. Given these developments, this paper investigates the role of climate dread and fatalism in the discourse about climate science. We examine the treatment of fatalism in major theories of the policy process, noting that climate policy represents a relatively novel situation—in which a problem once deemed solvable is being redefined as an issue outside the realm of human control. Using automated content analysis, we examine how journalists and interest groups framed reports issued by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) from 2013 to 2022. We find limited changes in the tone and content of news stories and environmental groups' statements, and we suggest that these findings reflect under‐reaction of the political system to new information. This paper aims to analyze the relationship between agricultural methane and nitrous oxide emissions as a function of per capita gross domestic product (GDP) and its quadratic term in 26 Latin American and Caribbean countries (1990-2019). It also considers the stock of foreign investment to test the polluting paradise hypothesis, agricultural land (AL), and, additionally, methane for nitrous function. The study comprised unit root and cointegration tests. Coefficients were estimated by using fully modified least squares (FMOLS), correlated common effects (CCE), and augmented mean group (AMG). Results by FMOLS show statistical evidence of an environmental Kuznets curve in the set of countries for methane and support the polluting paradise hypothesis. However, results from CCE and AMG show the opposite. For nitrous oxide, FMOLS confirms a U-shaped curve. The above supports a joint environmental policy for both gases, where AL is a key element. Sea level rise and sea state variability, resulting from climate change and global warming, are critical research areas. However, current techniques for observing and monitoring these phenomena have limitations in terms of spatial and temporal resolution, particularly in dynamic coastal zones. GNSS Reflectometry (GNSS-R) is an emerging bistatic radar-based technique that utilizes the GNSS direct (transmitter-receiver) and reflected (transmitter-reflection point-receiver) signals to extract properties of the reflecting surface. This study explores the potential of airborne GNSS-R as a means to monitor sea state in coastal areas by using the Doppler spread and reflectivity as observables. The paper aims to derive a sea state factor from the reflected signal power and the Doppler shift distribution to analyze its correlation with wind speed and significant wave height data obtained from the ERA5 model. The experiment involved four flights conducted along the coast between Calais and Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, in July 2019. A GNSS software receiver processes the direct and reflected signals, tracking and re-tracking the reflected signals with the aid of a specular reflection model. The resulting in-phase and quadrature components are analyzed in the spectral domain every minute to estimate the power, the surface reflectivity, and the relative Doppler shift. The findings reveal that the sea state factor and Doppler spreading are sensitive to sea state conditions, correlated with the ERA5 parameters, and influenced by the elevation angle of GNSS satellites. At low elevations (E<10°), the sea state factor demonstrates an inverse relationship (anti-correlation) with the wind speed and significant wave height, while the Doppler distribution shows a correlation with these parameters. Both correlations decrease with increasing elevation angle. This research underscores the potential of airborne GNSS-R for monitoring sea state variability in coastal areas enhancing our understanding of the relationships between GNSS-R measurements and sea state parameters. Este trabajo aborda la incertidumbre, foco central del actual debate epistemológico, en una triple concreción sociológica. En primer lugar, concreción temática: la incertidumbre en el ámbito del cambio climático (CC, en adelante). En segundo lugar, se fija en actores concretos: expertos en ese ámbito. Y tercero: concreta una observación empírica, con entrevistas a expertos españoles en CC. Se asume una perspectiva emic, atenta al habla de los expertos sobre sentido, localización y gestión de la incertidumbre climática. Como recoge la sucesión de los distintos informes del IPCC, la incertidumbre ha sido y es asunto central de reflexión en el estudio del CC. Dado que son los expertos los que la definen, clasifican, miden y comunican al resto de la ciudadanía, su estudio debe pasar necesariamente por la indagación de su peculiar relación con la heterogénea comunidad de los expertos. Tras dar cuenta de la relevancia dada a la incertidumbre en los informes del IPCC, se propone una reconstrucción selectiva del debate sobre la experticia y la incertidumbre, presentando algunos resultados de las indagaciones sobre el tema en España, para centrar después la atención en el análisis de las evidencias aportadas por una investigación cualitativa, concluyendo con los principales resultados alcanzados. Uncertainty is one of the central issues in the current epistemological debate. This paper proposes to approach it within the framework of a triple sociological concretion. First, a thematic concretion: uncertainty in the field of climate change. Second, it focuses on specific actors: experts in the field of climate change. And third, it is based on an empirical sociological observation of qualitative interviews with a significant sample of Spanish climate change experts. Thus, an emic perspective is adopted, paying attention to what the experts say about the meaning, location, and management of uncertainty. Uncertainty has been and continues to be a central topic of reflection in the study of climate change, as shown by the succession of different IPCC reports. Since it is the experts who define, classify, measure, and communicate the uncertainty of climate change to the rest of the citizens, its study must necessarily include the observation of the peculiar relationship with the heterogeneous community of experts. This work aims to make a contribution in this respect. After an account of the importance given to uncertainty in the IPCC reports, it proposes a selective reconstruction of the debate on expertise and uncertainty, presenting some of the results of research on the subject in Spain, to then focus attention on the analysis of the evidence provided by recent qualitative research, and to end with some conclusions that identify the main results obtained.
