The Chinese government is making vigorous efforts to control agricultural pollution. The promotion of an ecological planting–breeding mix pattern is one of them. Farmers' mode of production will affect their subjective well-being. Thus, this paper aims to analyze the impact of adopting the ecological planting–breeding mix pattern on farmers' subjective well-being based on 895 pieces of survey data from the provinces of Hubei, Hunan, and Jiangxi in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Using the endogenous switching regression model, we find that the adoption of the ecological planting–breeding mix pattern has a significant positive effect on farmers' subjective well-being. Based on this counterfactual hypothesis, if the farmers who actually adopted the ecological planting–breeding mix pattern did not adopt it, their subjective well-being would decrease from 4.006 to 3.669. Further examination indicates that self-worth identification, income increase, and neighborhood communication could be potential mechanisms. Additionally, the effect of the ecological planting–breeding mix pattern on subjective well-being is stronger in the group with low financial support. The technical support provided by the government does not have a significant regulatory effect on the adoption of the ecological planting–breeding mix pattern on subjective well-being. Our results suggest that farmers' ecological production behavior can affect their subjective well-being. Addressing the excessive input and inefficient use of agrochemicals are crucial for global food security, environmental protection, and human health. This paper offers a new idea from the perspective of outsourcing agricultural production. The impact of outsourcing on the frequency and intensity of agrochemical inputs were theoretically analyzed and empirically tested using a field survey of 1211 farmers in Heilongjiang, Henan, and Hunan, the major food-producing areas in China. A Logit regression framework was used to analyze the effect, a conditional mixture process (CMP) method was used to address potential endogeneity concerns, and a mediation effect model was used to dissect the mechanism. The results show that the effect of outsourcing on both input frequency and input intensity of agrochemicals was positive at the 1% significance level. The positive effect conclusion still holds even after addressing the potential endogeneity concerns, and in the sub-sample estimates for maize, wheat, and rice. We conclude that outsourcing can improve the utilization efficiency of agrochemicals by increasing the frequency of agrochemical inputs, but fail to solve the excessive agrochemical inputs and even leads to a further increase in the intensity of agrochemical inputs. Moreover, the mechanism for an increase in agrochemical input intensity due to outsourcing was explored, and it is more likely to be caused by inhibiting farmers' investment in soil improvement measures. The Ziyuan-1 (ZY-1) 02E launched on December 26, 2021 is equipped with a thermal infrared sensor (IRS), which has a ground resolution of better than 16m and a width priority of 115km, balancing the advantages of high resolution and large wide observation. The geometric performance of image data is the premise of remote sensing application, and the difficulty in evaluating the geometric performance of thermal infrared image data lies in the extraction of well-distributed, reliable and accurate GCPs. To extract GCP from high-precision reference images, it is necessary to overcome the feature differences between images caused by different spectral responses. This paper adopts a phase correlation matching method based on frequency domain to realize the fine registration of the data obtained by the emission thermal spectral band with the data from the reflectance spectral band, which can not only solve the GCP extraction of conventional thermal infrared images collected during the day, but also obtain satisfactory GCP data from thermal infrared data acquired at night. In order to test the GCP method proposed in this paper, three typical areas are selected as the experimental areas, including Yiyang City in Hunan, Nagqu City in Xizang and Hami City in Xinjiang, and the internal geometric accuracy and absolute geolocation accuracy of the thermal infrared data spanning one year are evaluated and analyzed by using the reference data composed of the DOM with an accuracy of 2m and the DEM with an accuracy of 10m. The research results indicate that the internal geometric accuracy of ZY-1 02E IRS satellite image data is better than 1.0 pixels, and the performance is satisfactory. However, its absolute geolocation accuracy needs to be continuously improved, especially there are systematic errors in the ascending data at night that require further research. To control heavy metal pollution effectively, prevention of heavy metal accumulations in agricultural soils should be the priority rather than remediation of heavy metal contamination. In this research, papers which contained input and output fluxes of Cd, As, Cr, Hg, and Pb in topsoil (the plough layer) of agricultural lands in Hunan, Zhejiang, the Yangtze River Delta, Hainan, and China as a whole were explored. Fluxes of heavy metal species were recalculated, and future trends of pollution were predicted. Also, cases regarding the application of technologies to control the input and output of heavy metals were analyzed. Results indicated that atmospheric decomposition was the dominant input source of heavy metals in all study sites except Hainan. The relative contributions of fertilizers, irrigation water, and straw returning fluctuated greatly among different sites. Cd pollution in all sites was the most serious, followed by Cr and Pb. In Hunan, Cd has already exceeded the maximum limit value and needs to be controlled urgently. The input of heavy metals from irrigation water, fertilizers, and straw returning could be controlled by proposing more policies to manage their quality and application amounts. The amount of heavy metals absorbed by plants could be increased by cultivating crops with hyperaccumulators and high-biomass plants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study focuses on the streets and spatial networks of the historic urban area in Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province, China, by mainly investigating the evolution of their geometric and topological characteristics. It draws on the theories and methods of urban morphology and space syntax, combines the digital historical maps at different times, and uses methods such as historical map spatial interpretation, geographic information system (GIS), sDNA tools, and urban morphological parameter analysis to explore and sort out the evolutionary process of the street and alley network in Changsha from the early modern period to the present. The paper constructs a parameter system for analyzing the street and alley network of historic urban areas from a geometric and topological perspective. It introduces the indicators of road density, road orientation, intersection density, and approaches such as closeness, betweenness, and intelligibility in space syntax into the parameter analysis framework of street and alley network morphology and spatial characteristics evolution. By comparing the changes in various parameters at different spatial scales, the process of the spatial order evolution of the street and alley network in the historic urban area is analyzed, and the evolutionary rules of the various periods' morphological characteristics are extracted. Drought is a disaster that seriously constrains economic development and endangers human life. This paper explores the potential of Global Navigation Satellite System Reflectometry (GNSS-R) for drought monitoring, using Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System (CYGNSS) data to monitor drought in Jiangxi and Hunan Provinces, China, in 2022. This study applies the Random Undersampling Boosting (RUSBoost) algorithm to detect waterbodies and linear regression to retrieve soil moisture (SM). Result shows that drought in September was heaviest, with the area of Poyang Lake in Jiangxi and Dongting Lake in Hunan decreasing by 70.2% and 76.9%, respectively, compared to that in June. The variation in retrieved SM shows that the Poyang Lake Plain and Jitai Basin in Jiangxi and the Dongting Lake, Yuanjiang River, and Xiangjiang River basins in Hunan suffered from the most serious drought. The variation in retrievals shows high consistency with various reference datasets, including Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) SM data and vegetation condition index (VCI). This study explores the impact of farm households' social capital characteristics and local government policies on the selection of farmland transfer contracts in China's rural industrial revitalization context. Utilizing field research data from 1,979 households in ethnic areas of Hunan Province, this paper constructs an econometric model to assess how farm households' social capital and local governments' involvement in rural industrial revitalization influence farmland transfer contract selections. The findings indicate that, lacking government program support, farmers' social capital significantly affects contract type and duration, but not the rent. Specifically, farmers possessing extensive social capital prefer verbal and short-term contracts (coefficients of 0.525 and 0.643, significant at the 5% level), whereas their influence on rent (coefficient of 2.418, significant at the 5% level) manifests under government program support. These results challenge the conventional theory of farmland transfer contracts and offer substantial empirical support for the development of local government policies in rural industrial revitalization, underlining the critical role of government guidance and social capital in enhancing farmland transfer. Traditional Chinese buildings serve as a carrier for the inheritance of traditional culture and national characteristics. In the context of rural revitalization, achieving the 3D reconstruction of traditional village buildings is a crucial technical approach to promoting rural planning, improving living environments, and establishing digital villages. However, traditional algorithms primarily target urban buildings, exhibiting limited adaptability and less ideal feature extraction performance for traditional residential buildings. As a result, guaranteeing the accuracy and reliability of 3D models for different types of traditional buildings remains challenging. In this paper, taking Jingping Village in Western Hunan as an example, we propose a method that combines multiple algorithms based on the slope segmentation of the roof to extract feature lines. Firstly, the VDVI and CSF algorithms are used to extract the building and roof point clouds based on the MVS point cloud. Secondly, according to roof features, village buildings are classified, and a 3D roof point cloud is projected into 2D regular grid data. Finally, the roof slope is segmented via slope direction, and internal and external feature lines are obtained after refinement through Canny edge detection and Hough straight line detection. The results indicate that the CSF algorithm can effectively extract the roofs of I-shaped, L-shaped, and U-shaped traditional buildings. The accuracy of roof surface segmentation based on slope exceeds 99.6%, which is significantly better than the RANSAC algorithm and the region segmentation algorithm. This method is capable of efficiently extracting the characteristic lines of roofs in low-rise buildings within traditional villages. Accurately determining the timing and mechanism of metallogenesis of ore deposits is essential for developing a robust genetic model for their exploration. In this paper, we analyze the formation conditions of cassiterite in five major deposits of southern Hunan Province, one of the most important tungsten-tin (W-Sn) provinces in South China, using a combination of cathodoluminescence imaging, in situ U-Pb geochronology, and trace-element concentration data. In situ cassiterite U-Pb geochronology constrains the main period of Sn mineralization to between 155.4 and 142.0 Ma, demonstrating a temporal and genetic relationship to silicic intrusive magmatism in the same area. Three stages of magmatic activity and metallogenic evolution are recognized: (1) Early Paleozoic and Triassic: the initial enrichment stage of tungsten and tin; (2) Jurassic: the metasomatic mineralization stage; and (3) Cretaceous: the magmatic-hydrothermal superposition stage. The cassiterite in these deposits takes four forms, i.e., quartz vein-type, greisen-skarn-type, greisen-type, and granite-type, representing a progression characterized by the increasing content and decreasing range of variation of high field strength elements (HFSEs), and reflecting a general increase in the degree of evolution of the associated granites. Rare earth element (REE) concentrations suggest that precipitation of cassiterite was insensitive to the redox state of the fluid and that precipitation of cassiterite in the southern Hunan Sn deposits did not require a high-fO2 environment. Rapeseed is an essential oil crop in China. Hubei, Hunan and Jiangxi provinces in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River are the main planting areas, which account for more than 42% of the total planted area of rapeseed in China. The area has more than 3467 ha of winter fallow field, with massive potential for utilization. The total mechanization rate of rapeseed tillage, seeding and harvesting in the 3 provinces is higher than national average. Still, the uneven development, insufficient utilization of idle fields in winter, low levels of mechanization and intelligence, are technical bottlenecks for improving whole mechanization. This paper analyzes the basic situation and existing problems of the rapeseed industry in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, combing tillage, seeding, harvesting key aspects of mechanization and intelligent technology, and gives the technical routes of the whole process of rapeseed production that could be promoted. Meanwhile, a comparative analysis of the technical characteristics and difficulties in promoting the application of the "tillage, seeding and harvesting" aspects of rapeseed production was carried out. Development trend of rapeseed production technology mode is semi-mechanized, mechanized to intelligent in the winter fallow fields. The technical development paths of each link are discribed as "anti-blocking, anti-sticky, anti-tangle, and high-speed, efficient, low consumption" mechanized tillage. Integrated tillage and seeding technology to complete multiple working procedures simultaneously. High efficiency, low consumption and low loss of rapeseed mechanized harvesting technology should be combined with harvesting and two-stage harvesting synergistic development. The mechanization technology of feeding, vegetable and fertilizer and the critical technology of intelligent rapeseed production should also be developed and applied simultaneously. The soft interlayer and rock structure play a significant role in controlling the deformation of the bedding slope, and it is necessary to consider the phenomenon of the sudden change of local response in these key parts under rainfall conditions, and then to clarify the mechanism of rainfall infiltration and damage mechanism of such slopes. In this paper, a large red-layered flat-dipping bedding landslide was selected as the research object, and numerical calculations based on the Van Genuchten model for saturated–unsaturated flow were performed in order to investigate the hydrological response and distribution patterns of water within the slope during rainfall. Moreover, stability analysis was performed based on the seepage field results and secondary development of FLAC3D, and the landslide evolution process was simulated and reproduced using the constitutive model of double-variables and the strength reduction method (SRM). The results showed that the effects of heavy rainfall on the water distribution and stability of the highway slope are significant, while the effects on the natural slope are not significant. There are three phases of the slope destabilization: flexure and uplift state, deformation exacerbation state and shear failure state. The slope destabilization mechanism is a typical "sliding-bending-shearing" type. The results of the study can provide a theoretical basis for the study of the seepage, stability analysis and destabilization mechanism of bedding slopes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To test the relationships of stochastic dominance, this paper firstly proposes two new consistent K-S-type statistics based on a quantile rule. Then, we consider their asymptotic properties. We introduce the bootstrap method to calculate the p-values of our proposed tests and use the Monte Carlo method to compare the power of our proposed test with the DD test and the BD test. The simulations showed that our test performed better than these two tests. Finally, we applied our proposed tests to compare the visibility of four provinces in China and compared the effects with the DD test and BD test. The empirical results showed that the conclusions of our proposed method are more-consistent with the dominance relationships of the four provinces. For a given significance level, the results of our proposed test demonstrate that the visibility of Jiangxi province is the best. China has an exceptional diversity in Begonia, holding the second largest number of described species in this genus at the national level. Many new taxa need to be explored and described. This paper reports two new species, Begonia ruchengensis (B. sect. Reichenheimia) and B. auritalata (B. sect. Platycentrum), from Hunan province and Guizhou province, respectively. Besides the detailed morphology description, color illustrations, and line drawings, the diagnoses of these two species distinguished from their allied taxa are provided. The green and sustainable development of fisheries is a crucial way to safeguard the environment, guarantee food security, and promote social and economic development. In the rapidly evolving era of digitalization, how to fully leverage the advantages of digitalization to motivate fishery sustainable development has become a worthy research question. Based on combing the development stage and characteristics of Chinese fishery digitalization, this paper selects six fishery digitalization factors from the perspective of configuration based on the technology-organization-environment (TOE) theoretical framework, and uses the panel fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) method to explore the configurational path of how digitalization empowered the sustainable development of fisheries in China from 2011 to 2021. This paper found that: (1) Fishery digitalization can significantly enhance the level of fishery sustainable development, but individual elements of fishery digitalization are not necessary conditions for realizing a high degree of fishery sustainable development. However, strengthening digitalization talent support plays a more universal role. (2) Four types of fishery digital ecology can generate a high level of fishery sustainable development, demonstrating the multiple paths and complex mechanisms of fishery digitalization empowering fishery sustainable development. (3) In underdeveloped areas such as Jilin, Hunan, and Qinghai, the empowering effect of digitalization on the sustainable development of fisheries is relatively limited. The research findings open the "black box" of how digitalization empowers the sustainable development of fisheries, providing theoretical reference for various types of provinces to utilize digitalization to drive the sustainable development of fisheries. Introduction: The behavior of forest fire is a complex phenomenon, and accurate simulation of forest fire is conducive to emergency response management after ignition. In order to further understand the characteristics of forest fire spread and the applicability of WRF-Fire in China, which is a coupled fire-atmospheric wildfire model, this study simulated a high-intensity forest fire event that occurred on October 17, 2022 in Xintian County, southern Hunan Province. Methods: Based on the fire-atmosphere coupled WRF-Fire model, we used high-resolution geographic information, meteorological observation and fuel classification data to analyze the forest fire behavior. At the same time, the simulation results are compared with the fire burned area observed by satellite remote sensing forest fire monitoring data. Results: The study found that, the simulated wind speed, direction and temperature trends are similar to the observation results, but the simulated wind speed is overestimated, the dominant wind direction is N, and the temperature is slightly underestimated. The simulated wind field is close to the actual wind field, and the simulation results can show the spatial and temporal variation characteristics of the local wind field under complex terrain while obtaining the high-resolution wind field. The simulated fire burned area is generally overestimated, spreading to the north and southwest compared with the observed fires, but it can also capture the overall shape and spread trend of the fire well. In order to evaluate the impact of emergencies on the resilience of highway transportation, a resilience network hierarchical model of the highway transportation system was constructed by analyzing the formation and emergence process of safety resilience in the highway transportation system. Four layers of networks were divided, including highway network, transport network, traffic network, and emergency network. Combined with the network hierarchical model, a resilience evaluation index system was designed, and an assessment method for highway transportation systems based on the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process(FAHP) was proposed. Finally, a case study of a public health emergency in a region of Hunan was carried out. The results show that the proposed method for evaluating the safety resilience of highway transportation systems can better reflect the overall resilience under public health emergencies, which is consistent with the quantitative analysis results through the system resilience curve. It helps to accurately evaluate the safety resilience of the system. At the same time, this method has the advantages of flexibility and simplicity in solving unstructured decision-making problems of the system, which helps to improve the safety production management and safety resilience level of highway transportation systems. In the future, the scope of research scenarios and regions can be expanded, and further analysis of the evolution of safety resilience and the ability of resilience development in different stages under external disturbances can be conducted in order to further explore and optimize the resilience of the system. Satellite remote sensing has become an important means of forest fire monitoring because it has the advantages of wide coverage, few ground constraints and high dynamics. When utilizing satellites for forest fire hotspot monitoring, two types of ground hotspots, agricultural and other fire hotspots can be ruled out through ground object features. False forest fire hotspots within forested areas must be excluded for a more accurate distinction between forest fires and non-forest fires. This study utilizes spatio-temporal data along with time-series classification to excavate false forest fire hotspots exhibiting temporal characteristics within forested areas and construct a dataset of such false forest fire hotspots, thereby achieving a more realistic forest fire dataset. Taking Hunan Province as the research object, this study takes the satellite ground hotspots in the forests of Hunan Province as the suspected forest fire hotspot dataset and excludes the satellite ground hotspots in the forests such as fixed heat sources, periodic heat sources and recurring heat sources which are excavated. The validity of these methods and results was then analyzed. False forest fire hotspots, from satellite ground hotspots extracted from 2019 to 2023 Himawari-8/9 satellite images, closely resemble the official release of actual forest fires data and the accuracy rate in the actual forest fire monitoring is 95.12%. Climate change is heavily altering plant distributions, posing significant challenges to conventional agricultural practices and ecological balance. Meanwhile, mixed species planting emerges as a potent strategy to enhance agricultural resilience, counteract climate change, preserve ecological balance, and provide a solution to economic instability. The MaxEnt model was used to predict the suitable area of Citrus reticulata under five climate scenarios and to explore affecting environmental factors. Litchi chinensis, Punica granatum, and Lycium chinense were selected as mixed species to analyze the spatial distribution and centroid migration trend of potentially suitable areas. The research results show the following: (1) The primary environmental factors impacting C. reticulata distribution are annual precipitation (1000–4000 mm), precipitation of driest quarter over 100 mm, and mean temperature of coldest quarter (12–28 °C). Crucially, the mixed species exhibited similar environmental sensitivities, indicating mutual mixing suitability. (2) Currently, the C. reticulata suitable area is of 240.21 × 104 km2, primarily in South, East, Central, and Southwest China, with potential for expansion to 265.41 × 104 km2 under the 2090s SSP1-2.6 scenario. (3) The geometric center of the moderately-to-highly suitable areas for C. reticulata is located in Hunan Province. Future scenarios show the C. reticulata's centroid migrating northwest, with distances of less than 110 km. Mixed planting trends toward higher latitudes, fluctuating from 6 km to 210 km. (4) Mixed planting area planning: C. reticulata and L. chinensis are suitable for mixed planting in South China. C. reticulata and P. granatum, C. reticulata and L. chinense are suitable for mixed planting in most areas of Central, East, Southwest, and South China. This research presents a new perspective on using mixed design principles for ecological adaptation and the sustainable mixed planting of C. reticulata, in response to China's changing climate. Landslide susceptibility denotes the likelihood of a disaster event under specific conditions. The assessment of landslide susceptibility has transitioned from qualitative to quantitative methods. With the integration of information technology in geological hazard analysis, a range of quantitative models for assessing landslide susceptibility has emerged and is now widely used. To compare and evaluate the accuracy of these models, this study focuses on Xupu County in Hunan Province, applying several models, including the CF model, FR model, CF-LR coupled model, FR-LR coupled model, SVM model, and RF model, to assess regional landslide susceptibility. ROC curves are used to evaluate the reliability of the model's predictions. The evaluation results reveal that the CF model (AUC = 0.756), FR model (AUC = 0.764), CF-LR model (AUC = 0.776), FR-LR model (AUC = 0.781), SVM model (AUC = 0.814), and RF model (AUC = 0.912) all have AUC values within the range of 0.7–0.9, indicating that the overall accuracy of the models is good and can provide a reference for landslide susceptibility zoning in the study area. Among these, the Random Forest model demonstrates the best accuracy for landslide susceptibility zoning in the study area. By extracting the extremely high susceptibility zones from the landslide susceptibility zonings obtained by six models, a comparative analysis of model adaptability was conducted. To describe the fetal death rate of birth defects (including a broad range of specific defects) and to explore the relationship between fetal deaths from birth defects and a broad range of demographic characteristics. Data was derived from the birth defects surveillance system in Hunan Province, China, 2016–2020. Fetal death refers to the intrauterine death of a fetus at any time during the pregnancy, including medical termination of pregnancy. Fetal death rate is the number of fetal deaths per 100 births (including live births and fetal deaths) in a specified group (unit: %). The fetal death rate of birth defects with 95% confidence intervals (CI) was calculated by the log-binomial method. Crude odds ratios (ORs) were calculated to examine the relationship between each demographic characteristic and fetal deaths from birth defects. This study included 847,755 births, and 23,420 birth defects were identified. A total of 11,955 fetal deaths from birth defects were identified, with a fetal death rate of 51.05% (95% CI 50.13–51.96). 15.78% (1887 cases) of fetal deaths from birth defects were at a gestational age of < 20 weeks, 59.05% (7059 cases) were at a gestational age of 20–27 weeks, and 25.17% (3009 cases) were at a gestational age of ≥ 28 weeks. Fetal death rate of birth defects was higher in females than in males (OR = 1.25, 95% CI 1.18–1.32), in rural than in urban areas (OR = 1.43, 95% CI 1.36–1.50), in maternal age 20–24 years (OR = 1.35, 95% CI 1.25–1.47), and ≥ 35 years (OR = 1.19, 95% CI 1.11–1.29) compared to maternal age of 25–29 years, in diagnosed by chromosomal analysis than ultrasound (OR = 6.24, 95% CI 5.15–7.55), and lower in multiple births than in singletons (OR = 0.41, 95% CI 0.36–0.47). The fetal death rate of birth defects increased with the number of previous pregnancies (χ2trend = 49.28, P < 0.01), and decreased with the number of previous deliveries (χ2trend = 4318.91, P < 0.01). Many fetal deaths were associated with birth defects. We found several demographic characteristics associated with fetal deaths from birth defects, which may be related to the severity of the birth defects, economic and medical conditions, and parental attitudes toward birth defects. [Display omitted] • Hongqiling Sn-W polymetallic deposit is a product of granitic magmatism in Late Jurassic. • The elemental composition of primary cassiterite is controlled by the compositions of ore-forming fluid and the rate of crystallization. Hongqiling deposit is one of the most typical hydrothermal vein type Sn-W polymetallic deposits in the Dongpo ore field, southern Hunan. It is an ideal object to study the Sn-W mineralization in the Nanling metallogenic belt and even in the whole South China Block, and to reveal the regional metallogenetic regularity. Based on the detailed investigation of the deposit geology, this paper discusses the mineralization age and processes of the Hongqiling hydrothermal vein type Sn-W polymetallic deposit by LA-MC-ICP-MS in-situ U-Pb dating and trace element geochemistry of cassiterite from the quartz vein type Sn-W ore body. Cathodoluminescence (CL) imaging shows that cassiterite in Hongqiling deposit can be divided into two generations. primary cassiterite (Cst-I) and altered cassiterite (Cst-II). The LA-MC-ICP-MS in-situ U-Pb age of the two groups of Cst-I samples are 158.9 ± 0.7 Ma and 158.4 ± 0.8 Ma, respectively, which are well consistent with the mineralization ages of most Sn-W deposits in the Nanling metallogenic belt, and are also consistent with the ages of middle to late Jurassic magmatic activity represented by the Qianlishan intrusion. This indicates that the Hongqiling deposit, like many Sn-W deposits in the Nanling metallogenic belt, is genetically related to the regional Middle to Late Jurassic granitic magmatic activities. LA-ICP-MS trace element analysis shows that trace elements such as Na and Cs are mainly distributed in fluid inclusions in cassiterite, while the major elements such as Mg, Al, and Si are mainly distributed in the mineral inclusions, and other elements such as W, U, Zr, Hf and Ti are mainly distributed in the cassiterite by isomorphic substitution. The high Fe and W contents in both primary and altered cassiterite indicate that the ore-forming fluid of Hongqiling deposit is mainly derived from granitic magma. The fluctuating variation of Fe, V, Sc, Ti, Zr, Hf, Nb and Ta in the primary cassiterite with the crystalline bands indicates that there are two large-scale pulses of magmatic hydrothermal fluid during the mineralization process, while the altered cassiterite is relatively depleted of Ti, Sc, Zr and U elements, and enriched in Pb which may represent the compositional characteristics of the late-stage fluid. In summary, the Hongqiling hydrothermal vein type Sn-W polymetallic deposit was formed by the pulsating exsolution of magmatic hydrothermal fluid of late Jurassic granitic magmatism. Traditional machine learning algorithms face challenges in assessing flood susceptibility reliably due to their low robustness and the inherent 'black-box' nature. This paper utilizes five hyperparameter optimization algoirthms (HPO), namely grid search (GS), random search (RS), gauss process (GP), tree-structured parzen estimator (TPE) and simulated annealing (SA), to tune the traditional random forest's (RF) hyperparameters to improve the robustness of flood hazard mapping (FHM) models at Ningxiang City Hunan Province, China. Additionally, SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) method were used to interpret the decision-mechanisms of these flood hazard models. This study considers 19 pluvial flood influencing factors and 2064 flood locations to create a geospatial database. The performance of each hybrid model was evaluated by area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) and several validation methods. The results demonstrate that the developed hybrid models demonstrated good performance, with RF-TPE achieving the highest AUC (0.9660), followed by RF-GP (0.9648), RF-SA (0.9624), RF-GS (0.9612), RF-RS (0.9600), and RF (0.9539). The RF-TPE model exhibits superior robustness than other models, and the FHM constructed using it is more reliable. HPO is an effective approach to improve the predictive accuracy and robustness of FHM models. When considering limited computational resources, Bayesian optimization (TPE) should be prioritized for optimizing FHM models, followed by metaheuristic algorithms and model-free algorithms. Moreover, the study revealed that distance from river, peak rainfall intensity, continuous rainfall, antecedent effective rainfall, and terrain relief, are the most significant for pluvial FHM modeling in this region. This article examines the development of primary English education from teachers' and students' perspectives; this is done by investigating environment, curriculum and teacher and students' information. The study was carried out with 42 primary English teachers and 404 primary students from 90 urban and rural primary schools in 13 regions in the Hunan Province, China, the participants engaged in the questionnaire tasks to investigate the present status and problems with primary English education in the Hunan Province. Based on the assessment indicators through CIPP model, combining educational theory and sustainable development theory, the present study develops a primary school English education evaluation model and conducts a practical investigation of primary school English education in the Hunan Province, based on the established model. The findings indicate that the quality of teachers has improved, teaching methods and teaching equipment have become diversified, and student interests and English proficiencies have increased. However, there are still deficiencies in the implementation of Primary English Education in the Hunan Province. For instance, certain schools improperly implement national policies, resulting in imbalanced education. Additionally, educational inequality persists due to disparities in family economic status and importance. Moreover, regional, ideological, and management factors contribute to uneven allocation of educational resources. Furthermore, significant disparities exist between urban and rural areas in terms of teacher qualifications, teaching quality, and school operating hours. The article proposes enhancing awareness of sustainable development, strengthening supervision, and seeking educational and policy support to facilitate the sustainable development of primary English education. Objective: To understand the prevalence rate of obstructive pulmonary dysfunction in workers exposed to silica dust and analyze its risk factors, so as to provide reference for the formulation of diagnostic criteria for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease caused by occupational dust. Methods: Data collection and structured questionnaire were used to collect the data of 2064 workers exposed to silica dust who underwent health examination in Hunan Occupational Disease Prevention and Control Hospital and Yuanling Second People's Hospital from January 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022. The prevalence rate of obstructive pulmonary ventilation dysfunction was analyzed and the risk factors were analyzed. Results: The prevalence rate of obstructive pulmonary ventilation dysfunction (FEV1/FVC < 70%) was 2.3% in 2064 silica dust exposed workers. The prevalence of restrictive pulmonary ventilation dysfunction (FVC/Pre < 80%) was 8.1%. The prevalence of obstructive pulmonary ventilation dysfunction in the high level exposure group was higher than that in the low level exposure group, 8.2 vs0.9% (P < 0.05). The rate of obstructive pulmonary ventilation dysfunction in female group was higher than that in male group (5.3% vs. 1.7%, p = 0.00). Workers with obstructive pulmonary dysfunction were older and worked longer than workers without obstructive pulmonary dysfunction, but there was no statistical difference. Multivariate regression analysis showed that high exposure level was a risk factor for obstructive pulmonary ventilation dysfunction in silica dust exposed workers (P < 0.05). Females were the risk factors for obstructive pulmonary ventilation dysfunction (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Silica dust exposure can cause obstructive pulmonary ventilation dysfunction and lead to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. High level of exposure is a risk factor for obstructive pulmonary ventilation dysfunction. Women exposed to dust are more prone to obstructive pulmonary ventilation dysfunction than men. The Sensitivity to Punishment and Sensitivity to Reward Questionnaire (SPSRQ) is a self-report tool widely used to assess individuals' level of reinforcement sensitivity. Drug addiction is strongly associated with reinforcement sensitivity, but there is a lack of measurement tools to assess reinforcement sensitivity in drug users, necessitating the revision and application of the SPSRQ among drug users. This study recruited 819 drug users (mean age = 34.74; 56.41% female) from five compulsory rehabilitation centers in Hunan Province, China. The applicability of the SPSRQ among person with substance use disorder was assessed by conducting reliability analyses and validity analyses, with retesting performed by 127 individuals after 6 weeks. Exploratory factor analysis for the SPSRQ showed a stable two-factor structure in person with substance use disorder. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated acceptable goodness of fit indexes for the two-factor structure. The SPSRQ also demonstrated good reliability and convergent and discriminant validity evidence. The two-factor structure of the SPSRQ also demonstrated measurement invariance across gender. Further comparative analysis found that the degree of reward sensitivity was higher for males than for females. Generally, the SPSRQ has shown evidence of good reliability and validity in Chinese drug-dependent populations, and it is suitable for research and application with Chinese person with substance use disorder. Water and fertilizer are crucial in rice growth, with irrigation and fertilizer management exhibiting synergies. In a two-year field study conducted in Yiyang City, Hunan Province, we examined the impact of three irrigation strategies—wet-shallow irrigation (W1), flooding irrigation (W2), and the "thin, shallow, wet, dry irrigation" method (W3)—in combination with distinct fertilizer treatments (labeled F1, F2, F3, and F4, with nitrogen application rates of 0, 180, 225, and 270 kg ha−1, respectively) on rice yield generation and water–fertilizer utilization patterns. The study employed Hybrid Rice Xin Xiang Liang you 1751 (XXLY1751) and Yue Liang you Mei Xiang Xin Zhan (YLYMXXZ) as representative rice cultivars. Key findings from the research include water, fertilizer, variety, and year treatments, which all significantly influenced the yield components of rice. Compared to W2, W1 in 2022 reduced the amount of irrigation water by 35.2%, resulting in a 42.0~42.8% increase in irrigation water productivity and a 25.7~25.9% increase in total water productivity. In 2023, similar improvements were seen. Specifically, compared with other treatments, the W1F3 treatment increased nitrogen uptake and harvest index by 1.4–7.7% and 5.9–7.7%, respectively. Phosphorus and potassium uptake also improved. The W1 treatment enhanced the uptake, accumulation, and translocation of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium nutrients throughout the rice growth cycle, increasing nutrient levels in the grains. When paired with the F3 fertilization approach, W1 treatment boosted yields and improved nutrient use efficiency. Consequently, combining W1 and F3 treatment emerged as this study's optimal water–fertilizer management approach. Fever and diarrhea are key causes of malnutrition, growth and development disorders, and death among children. At present, most studies on the associated factors of fever and diarrhea in children are concentrated in African and South Asian countries, but relevant research in China is very limited. This study was aimed to analyze the two-week prevalence of fever, diarrhea, and coexisting fever and diarrhea among children aged 6–23 months in rural areas of Hunan Province and to explore the associated factors. The survey data of the Nutrition Improvement Program for Children in Poor Areas (NIPCPA) from 2016 to 2023 was used here. NIPCPA is a cross-sectional survey completed annually in Hunan to collect children's nutrition and health indicators. The two-week prevalence rates of fever, diarrhea, and coexisting fever and diarrhea among children aged 6–23 months were 12.2% (2066/16,985), 9.6% (1634/16,985), and 3.2% (542/16,985), respectively. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed the risks of fever, diarrhea, and coexisting fever and diarrhea were higher among younger children. The high educational level of caregivers, effective consumption of Yingyangbao (a complementary food supplement containing iron, zinc, calcium, vitamins A, D, B1, B2, B12, folic acid, and other micronutrients), and complementary feeding meeting minimum dietary diversity and meeting minimum acceptable diet were protective factors against fever in children, with adjusted odds ratios (aORs) of 0.87 (95%CI: 0.78–0.98), 0.78 (0.69–0.87), 0.73 (0.65–0.82), and 0.74 (0.66–0.84), respectively. Effective consumption of Yingyangbao, and complementary feeding meeting the minimum dietary diversity and meeting minimum acceptable diet were protective factors against diarrhea in children, with aORs of 0.72 (95%CI: 0.63–0.83), 0.79 (0.70–0.91), and 0.80 (0.70–0.92), respectively. Effective consumption of Yingyangbao, and complementary feeding meeting the minimum dietary diversity and meeting minimum acceptable diet were protective factors against coexisting fever and diarrhea among children, with aORs of 0.53 (95%CI: 0.43–0.66), 0.71 (0.58–0.89), and 0.70 (0.56–0.88), respectively. Fever, diarrhea, and the coexisting fever and diarrhea affect one in eight, one in ten, and one in thirty children respectively in rural areas of Hunan. Effective interventions should be actively taken, such as improving the education level of caregivers, enhancing their scientific feeding skills for children, and promoting children's compliance with Yingyangbao consumption, to further reduce the prevalence of fever and diarrhea in children. Objective: To explore the association between demographic characteristics and perinatal deaths attributable to congenital heart defects (CHDs). Methods: Data were obtained from the Birth Defects Surveillance System of Hunan Province, China, 2016–2020. The surveillance population included fetuses and infants from 28 weeks of gestation to 7 days after birth whose mothers delivered in the surveillance hospitals. Surveillance data included demographic characteristics such as sex, residence, maternal age, and other key information, and were used to calculate the prevalence of CHDs and perinatal mortality rates (PMR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Multivariable logistic regression analysis (method: Forward, Wald, α = 0.05) and adjusted odds ratios (ORs) were used to identify factors associated with perinatal deaths attributable to CHDs. Results: This study included 847755 fetuses, and 4161 CHDs were identified, with a prevalence of 0.49% (95%CI: 0.48–0.51). A total of 976 perinatal deaths attributable to CHDs were identified, including 16 (1.64%) early neonatal deaths and 960 (98.36%) stillbirths, with a PMR of 23.46% (95%CI: 21.98–24.93). In stepwise logistic regression analysis, perinatal deaths attributable to CHDs were more common in rural areas than urban areas (OR = 2.21, 95%CI: 1.76–2.78), more common in maternal age <20 years (OR = 2.40, 95%CI: 1.05–5.47), 20–24 years (OR = 2.13, 95%CI: 1.46–3.11) than maternal age of 25–29 years, more common in 2 (OR = 1.60, 95%CI: 1.18–2.18) or 3 (OR = 1.43, 95%CI: 1.01–2.02) or 4 (OR = 1.84, 95%CI: 1.21–2.78) or > = 5 (OR = 2.02, 95%CI: 1.28–3.18) previous pregnancies than the first pregnancy, and more common in CHDs diagnosed in > = 37 gestional weeks (OR = 77.37, 95%CI: 41.37–144.67) or 33–36 gestional weeks (OR = 305.63, 95%CI: 172.61–541.15) or < = 32 gestional weeks (OR = 395.69, 95%CI: 233.23–671.33) than diagnosed in postnatal period (within 7 days), and less common in multiple births than singletons (OR = 0.48, 95%CI: 0.28–0.80). Conclusions: Perinatal deaths were common in CHDs in Hunan in 2016–2020. Introduction: Adolescence is considered a stress-sensitive developmental period, and the escalating and sustained pressure during this phase poses a significant threat to the mental and physical well-being of adolescents. Therefore, enhancing positive emotions in adolescents is crucial. This study aims to investigate the impact of physical activity on the emotional intelligence, interpersonal forgiveness, and positive emotions of adolescents. Methods: Using a cluster sampling method, data were collected from 500 adolescents in four schools across the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Hunan Province, China. A total of 428 valid questionnaires were collected and analyzed. The study employed AMOS v.23 to construct a structural equation model to validate the hypotheses. Results: The results indicate that physical activity significantly influences the emotional intelligence, interpersonal forgiveness, and positive emotions of adolescents. Furthermore, emotional intelligence and interpersonal forgiveness mediate the relationship between physical activity and positive emotions. Discussion: Based on these findings, collaborative efforts from government agencies, schools, and families are essential to provide robust support for adolescents' participation in physical activity, encouraging more adolescents to actively engage in sports. Objective: To explore the risk factors for maternal near-miss (MNM) using the WHO near-miss approach. Methods: Data were obtained from the Maternal Near-Miss Surveillance System in Hunan Province, China, 2012–2022. Multivariate logistic regression analysis (method: Forward, Wald, α = 0.05) and adjusted odds ratios (aORs) were used to identify risk factors for MNM. Results: Our study included 780,359 women with 731,185 live births, a total of 2461 (0.32%) MNMs, 777,846 (99.68%) non-MNMs, and 52 (0.006%) maternal deaths were identified. The MNM ratio was 3.37‰ (95%CI: 3.23–3.50). Coagulation/hematological dysfunction was the most common cause of MNM (75.66%). Results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed risk factors for MNM: maternal age > = 30 years old (aOR > 1, P < 0.05), unmarried women (aOR = 2.21, 95%CI: 1.71–2.85), number of pregnancies > = 2 (aOR > 1, P < 0.05), nulliparity (aOR = 1.51, 95%CI: 1.32–1.72) or parity > = 3 (aOR = 1.95, 95%CI: 1.50–2.55), prenatal examinations < 5 times (aOR = 1.13, 95%CI: 1.01–1.27), and number of cesarean sections was 1 (aOR = 1.83, 95%CI: 1.64–2.04) or > = 2 (aOR = 2.48, 95%CI: 1.99–3.09). Conclusion: The MNM ratio was relatively low in Hunan Province. Advanced maternal age, unmarried status, a high number of pregnancies, nulliparity or high parity, a low number of prenatal examinations, and cesarean sections were risk factors for MNM. This study is based on a sample of 30 Sinitic languages spoken in the Hunan Province. Its first objective is to explore the types of dative markers, comparing the form of the dative with allative, passive, benefactive, and differential object markers in these languages. Five patterns are identified: (I) DAT = ALL (II) DAT = GIVE = OM ≠ PASS; (III) DAT = GIVE = OM = PASS; (VI) DAT = GIVE = PASS ≠ OM; (V) DAT = BEN. Then, we reveal three main possible grammaticalization pathways that motivate the five synchronic patterns: (a) Allative > Dative; (b) (TAKE >) GIVE > Dative; (c) Benefactive > Dative. It concerns two distinct developments for the second pathway. Ancient masonry pagodas hold significant scientific, historical, and cultural importance. However, due to the complexity of masonry materials, structures, and boundary conditions, establishing finite element static and dynamic models for ancient masonry pagodas is highly challenging. This study aimed to explore the dynamic characteristics and finite element numerical simulation methods of ancient masonry pagodas in Yongzhou, Hunan province. It focused on the Huilong Pagoda in Yongzhou, where in situ test experiments under natural excitation are conducted. The SSI and NExT-ERA methods were employed to determine the ancient pagoda's natural frequencies, vibration patterns, and damping ratios, and to validate the NExT-ERA method. The macroscopic numerical model of the Huilong Pagoda was calibrated using measured results. Subsequently, the NExT-ERA identification results were compared and analyzed with the numerical simulation results of the dynamic characteristics. The results indicate that the first three orders of natural frequencies for the ancient pagoda in the east–west direction are 1.937 Hz, 6.802 Hz, and 21.361 Hz, respectively. Similarly, the first three orders of natural frequencies in the north–south direction are 1.935 Hz, 7.439 Hz, and 21.398 Hz. The results obtained from both methods revealed that the overall structural damping ratio ranges from 0.21% to 2.89%. The numerical model was analyzed using ANSYS, and the first three orders of natural frequencies obtained were highly consistent with the measured values, exhibiting a maximum relative error of 8.54%. The Guangdong historical trail comprises two ancient trails, known as Yile (宜乐) and Xijing (西京); can be found within the borders of Lechang (乐昌); and is an integral part of the northern section of the Guangdong historical trail, connecting Hunan and Guangdong. Along these routes, there are various types of ancestral halls. The objectives of this study include analyzing various levels of information about ancestral hall architecture, determining their respective importance through AHP hierarchical analysis, classifying architectural features via cluster analysis using SPSS, and exploring the geographical distribution trajectories of ancestral halls along the ancient paths using GIS technology. Ultimately, this study seeks to shed light on the influence of different cultures brought by the ancient road on the distribution of architectural types and identify three distinct types of ancestral halls. Current source apportionment models have successfully identified emission sources and quantified their contributions. However, when being utilized for heavy metal source apportion in soil, their accuracy needs to be improved, regarding migration patterns. Therefore, this work intended to improve the pre-existing principal component analysis and multiple linear regression with distance (PCA-MLRD) model to effectively locate pollution pathways (traffic emissions, irrigation water, atmospheric depositions, etc.) and achieve a more precise quantification. The dataset of soil heavy metals was collected from a typical area in the Chang-Zhu-Tan region, Hunan, China in 2021. The identification of the contribution of soil parent material was accomplished through enrichment factors and crustal reference elements. Meanwhile, the anthropogenic emission was identified with principal component analysis and GeoDetector. GeoDetector was used to accurately point to the pollution source from a spatial differentiation perspective. Subsequently, the pollution pathways linked to the identified sources were determined. Non-metal manufacturing factories were found to be significant anthropogenic sources of local soil contamination, mainly through rivers and atmospheric deposition. Furthermore, the influence of irrigation water on heavy metals showed a more pronounced effect within a distance of 1000 m, became weaker after that, and then gradually disappeared. Traditional landslide susceptibility assessment methods often rely on single models, which can be biased and less accurate. In this article, we introduce a two-tiered strategy to enhance landslide susceptibility predictions. Initially, we employ an ensemble stacking technique that combines the strengths of three machine learning classifiers. This combination leverages the support vector classifier (SVC) as the key meta-classifier to optimize and refine predictions. Subsequently, we integrate the extreme gradient boosting (XGB), random forest (RF) and gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT) models with SVC to create hybrid approaches. In this study, we evaluate and compare the effectiveness of six machine learning algorithms for predicting landslide susceptibility in Anhua County, Hunan Province, China. The results demonstrated that the stacking ensemble model outperforms traditional models. The XBGþSVC model achieves the highest AUC value (0.9468), which is followed by the GBDTþSVC (0.9316), RFþSVC (0.9162), XGB (0.9393), GBDT (0.9009), and RF (0.8693). Introduction: Numerous studies within the school and academic contexts have underscored the profound impact of psychometric variables such as academic self-efficacy, self-esteem, and loneliness on academic achievement among children. Although physical activities and dance practices are known to bolster academic self-efficacy and enhance academic outcomes, the effect of Artistic Sports Activities on these psychological determinants among left-behind children (LBC) in rural schools remains underexplored. Method: This study was conducted from September 2020 to January 2022 among 405 LBCs aged 9 to 13 from six randomly selected primary schools in Hunan Province, China. Schools were chosen in collaboration with the Hunan Women and Children's Federation, ensuring informed consent through stakeholder informational sessions. The study employed rigorous sampling and data analysis methods, including the Shapiro--Wilk test for normal distribution and Cronbach's alpha for reliability, alongside Pearson correlation, independent and paired t-tests, and multiple linear regression analyses to investigate the effects of Artistic Sports Activities on psychometric variables and academic performance among LBCs. Data collection involved standardized questionnaires assessing academic self-efficacy, self-esteem, and loneliness before and after intervention. Results: Findings indicate that Artistic Sports Activities significantly improved academic self-efficacy and self-esteem and reduced loneliness, leading to enhanced academic performance. Notably, loneliness was identified as mediating the relationship between academic self-efficacy and self-esteem among LBCs. Discussion: The findings highlight the critical role of integrating Artistic Sports Activities in educational frameworks to bolster psychological and academic outcomes for LBCs. Background and Objective. Oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) is a progressive and irreversible disorder of collagen metabolism, resulting in mucosal fibrosis, oral functional changes, and even malignant transformation. This study investigated the relationship between human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-DQB1 alleles and the susceptibility to OSF in a Hunan Han population, providing a new basis for clinical prevention and treatment of OSF. Methods. 44 OSF patients and 44 healthy volunteers were included in this study. To detect the expression frequency of HLA-DQB1 alleles in the two groups and analyze significant allelic subtypes and their relative risk, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) sequence-specific primers were used. Subsequently, based on the identification of differential genes, we compare the gene expression levels of OSF patients and healthy volunteers expressing differential genes by real-time quantitative PCR. Results. The expression frequency of the HLA-DQB1 ∗ 05 : 02 allele in the OSF group (36.4%) was significantly higher than in the controls (13.6%), and exposure to the HLA-DQB1 ∗ 05 : 02 allele was strongly related to OSF (OR (95% CI) = 3.619 (1.257,10.421), Wald χ2 = 5.681, P = 0.017). However, there were no significant differences in the allele expression frequencies of DQB1 ∗ 02 : 01, DQB1 ∗ 03 : 03, DQB1 ∗ 05 : 01, DQB1 ∗ 05 : 03, DQB1 ∗ 06 : 02, DQB1 ∗ 06 : 03, and DQB1 ∗ 06 : 04 in the OSF group compared with the controls (all P > 0.05). Furthermore, the relative expression level of the HLA-DQB1 ∗ 05 : 02 allele in the OSF group (3.98 ± 3.50) was significantly higher than in controls (0.70 ± 0.41). Conclusions. There are differences in the HLA-DQB1 allele polymorphisms between the healthy population and patients with oral submucosal fibrosis. Preliminarily, it is suggested that the HLA-DQB1 ∗ 05 : 02 allele, which has a strong correlation with OSF and great differential expression between patients with OSF and controls, might be a susceptibility gene for OSF in Hunan. China's rural reform is reliant on farmers' cooperatives as a key organization vehicle. It plays an important role in promoting rural revitalization. Such as, realizing the organic connection between small farmers and agricultural modernization. This study used the nearest neighbor index and kernel density estimation to analyze the spatial distribution and structural characteristics of farmer cooperatives in Hunan Province. It revealed the spatial differentiation law of cooperatives. Also using geographical detectors to figure out the main factors that affect the spatial distribution. The results show that: ① Hunan Farmers Cooperatives show significant spatial agglomeration. The overall spatial distribution shows the spatial characteristics of "one core, one circle, and multiple points". And the spatial distribution pattern of "large agglomeration, finger-shaped radiation distribution". Among them, the distribution of provincial demonstration cooperatives is relatively balanced. ② Cooperatives in six types of industries, such as planting, forestry, and feeding, showed agglomeration distribution. Different industrial cooperatives spread out in different ways, such as in an anti-"L" shape, a dual-core shape, or a one-center area. ③ The 24 influence factors selected from the five dimensions of the natural environment, social economic basis, production basis, output capacity, and facility basis have high, general, and weak influence on cooperatives' spatial distribution. The development and distribution of cooperatives mainly depend on resource endowment, social and economic development level, and market dependence. This study aimed to investigate the changes in proteins and volatile flavor compounds that occur in bacon during low-temperature smoking (LTS) and identify potential correlations between these changes. To achieve this, a combination of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and proteomics was employed. A total of 42 volatile flavor compounds were identified in the bacon samples, and, during LTS, 11 key volatile flavor compounds with variable importance were found at a projection value of >1, including 2′,4′-dihydroxyacetophenone, 4-methyl-2H-furan-5-one, Nonanal, etc. In total, 2017 proteins were quantified at different stages of LTS; correlation coefficients and KEGG analyses identified 27 down-regulated flavor-related proteins. Of these, seven were involved in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, metabolic pathways, or amino acid metabolism, and they may be associated with the process of flavor formation. Furthermore, correlation coefficient analysis indicated that certain chemical parameters, such as the contents of free amino acids, carbonyl compounds, and TCA cycle components, were closely and positively correlated with the formation of key volatile flavor compounds. Combined with bioinformatic analysis, the results of this study provide insights into the proteins present in bacon at various stages of LTS. This study demonstrates the changes in proteins and the formation of volatile flavor compounds in bacon during LTS, along with their potential correlations, providing a theoretical basis for the development of green processing methods for Hunan bacon. Sinojackia Hu. comprises five to eight Chinese endemic species with high ornamental and medicinal value. However, the generic limits, interspecific relationships and evolutionary history of the genus remain unresolved. In this study, we newly sequenced three plastomes of S. oblongicarpa and compared them with those of the other congeneric species to explore the taxonomic delimitation of the species and the evolutionary history of the genus. The plastome structure of Sinojackia species was extremely conserved in terms of number of genes, sequence length, and GC content. The codon usage patterns revealed that natural selection may be the main factor shaping codon usage bias. Our phylogenetic tree shows that Sinojackia is monophyletic and can be divided into two clades. Sinojackia oblongicarpa as a distinct species is supported for it is distantly related to S. sarcocarpa. The evolutionary analysis of morphological features indicates that the woody mesocarp is an ancestral feature. Sinojackia originated in central Southeast China during the early Miocene. In this period, it experienced elevated diversification and migrated from central Southeast China to the Hunan Province and the Sichuan Province with the development of the Asian monsoon and East Asian flora. Glacial–interglacial interactions with the monsoon climate may provide favorable expansion conditions for Sinojackia on a small scale. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study explores the complexities of mission-state and church-state relations from a micro-level perspective, asking how the missionaries, teachers, and pupils at the Lutheran Middle School in Hunan Province negotiated conflicting claims on church membership and national citizenship. However, Hunan is not a microcosm of modern China. When dealing with nationalism in a Hunanese context, it is sometimes more accurate to speak of Hunanese nationalism rather than Chinese nationalism. This micro-level case study sheds light on the general trends of changing mission-state and church-state encounters, but it also emphasizes unexpected expressions of local Christianity in a context that has not so far been given much scholarly attention. The situation of rocky desertification in the southwestern part of China is very serious and has been included as one of three major ecological problems. In this study, using Landsat images as the data sources, we estimated the fractional vegetation coverage (FVC) in the Mengdong River Basin in the Hunan Province over the past 40 years, analyzed its spatio-temporal variation characteristics, and explored the driving mechanism (climate and anthropogenic) using the Mann–Kendall, Hurst index, and partial correlation methods. Specifically, the impact of ecological engineering on the recovery of vegetation cover in rocky desertification areas was analyzed and discussed in this study. The results demonstrate the following: (1) The changes in FVC in the study area before and after the rocky desertification management ecological project differed significantly, with a very small change in the rate of change in the mean value of FVC between 1987 and 1999 (<0.1%), while the FVC had a significant linear growth trend between 2000 and 2022 (>0.9%). (2) The Hurst index of FVC ranged from −0.233 to 2.476, with an average value of 0.864. The area with an H value greater than 0.75 accounted for 80.12%, indicating that the future trend in the vast majority of regions will develop in accordance with the current change trend. (3) The average partial correlation coefficients between FVC and precipitation and between FVC and temperature were −0.02 and 0.27, respectively, showing that FVC is more sensitive to temperature than precipitation. The combination of climate change and human activities is the main cause of FVC change. The contributions of climate change (precipitation and temperature) and human activities to FVC variation are about 30% and 70%, respectively. Ecological restoration projects have a significant positive effect on the recovery of vegetation in rocky desertification areas. The results of this study are intended to provide a scientific basis for analyzing the characteristics of vegetation restoration in existing rocky desertification areas and ecological management in future rocky desertification areas. Selenium (Se) is a micronutrient that has attracted significant attention, because the threshold for human health is low. During soil surveys in China, large areas of low-Se soil were found, and this condition may increase the probability of people suffering from Se deficiency. A multi-purpose regional geochemical survey conducted in the Lou Shao basin of Hunan Province found abundant Se-rich soils in Lianyuan City. However, as the primary grain-producing area in Hunan Province, the key factors affecting the spatial distribution of soil Se in the cultivated land of Lianyuan City remain to be elucidated. Therefore, based on the data of 5516 topsoil samples (0–20 cm) of cultivated land in Lianyuan City, we used geostatistics, correlation analysis, and a Geodetector to explore the effects of geological conditions (strata), soil types, soil properties, and topography on the distribution of Se in soil. The results showed that (1) in comparison to cultivated land in the Chinese mainland, Japan, Belgium, and Sweden, the cultivated land in Lianyuan City exhibits higher Se contents, with Se-sufficient and Se-rich areas accounting for 9.74% and 88.96% of the total area, respectively; (2) the distribution of high-Se soil was consistent with that in the Longtan Formation, Dalong Formation, and Daye Formation; (3) organic matter (OM) showed a positive correlation with Se, while both the elevation and slope were negatively correlated with Se; (4) stratum had the most significant effect on the spatial variation in soil Se, followed by OM. Lianyuan City is a typical Se-rich area, and the high level of Se in soil reduces the risk of local residents suffering with diseases caused by Se deficiency. The synergistic effect of stratum and OM is the key factor influencing Se enrichment in soils. Moreover, low-lying flat areas are more conducive to the accumulation of Se. This study will help farmers to identify suitable Se-rich cultivation areas in order to increase the Se content in crops, thereby providing a valuable basis for improvements in human health and the optimization of agricultural strategies. Efficient carbon emission reduction technologies in buildings are necessary for achieving the "Dual carbon" goal in China. In this study, a comprehensive evaluation model is proposed to assess the effect of carbon emission reduction based on the analytic hierarchy process–entropy weight–coefficient of variation model which takes newly built residential buildings in Zhuzhou City as the research object. The results show that the preferred materials for the roof and exterior walls of the building's envelope structure were flame-retardant extruded polystyrene boards, and porous shale bricks were preferred as the main materials for the exterior walls. In addition, the rooftop solar photovoltaic system and energy-saving air conditioning technology were suitable in terms of being renewable and were better utilized. In the end, carbon emissions were significantly reduced when using the building decarbonization technologies. This study provides a new reference for choosing materials and technologies for the design of residential buildings in Hunan Province and even other regions with hot summers and cold winters. Background: Toxoplasma gondii and Neospora caninum are closely related protozoan parasites that are considered important causes of abortion in livestock, causing huge economic losses. Hunan Province ranks 12th in the production of beef and mutton in China. However, limited data are available on the seroprevalence, risk factors and molecular characterization of T. gondii and N. caninum in beef cattle and goats in Hunan province, China. Methods: Sera of 985 beef cattle and 1147 goats were examined for the presence of specific antibodies against T. gondii using indirect hemagglutination test (IHAT) and anti-N. caninum IgG using competitive-inhibition enzyme-linked immunoassay assay (cELISA). Statistical analysis of possible risk factors was performed using PASW Statistics. Muscle samples of 160 beef cattle and 160 goats were examined for the presence of T. gondii DNA (B1 gene) and N. caninum DNA (Nc-5 gene) by nested PCR. The B1 gene-positive samples were genotyped at 10 genetic markers using the multilocus nested PCR-RFLP (Mn-PCR-RFLP). Results: Specific IgG against T. gondii were detected in 8.3% (82/985) and 13.3% (153/1147) and against N. caninum in 2.1% (21/985) and 2.0% (23/1147) of the beef cattle and goats, respectively. Based on statistical analysis, the presence of cats, semi-intensive management mode and gender were identified as significant risk factors for T. gondii infection in beef cattle. Age was a significant risk factor for T. gondii infection in goats (P < 0.05), and age > 3 years was a significant risk factor for N. caninum infection in beef cattle (P < 0.05). PCR positivity for T. gondii was observed in three beef samples (1.9%; 3/160) and seven chevon samples (4.4%; 7/160). Genotyping of PCR positive samples identified one to be ToxoDB#10. The N. caninum DNA was observed in one beef sample (0.6%; 1/160) but was negative in all chevon samples. Conclusions: To our knowledge, this is the first large-scale serological and molecular investigation of T. gondii and N. caninum and assessment of related risk factors in beef cattle and goats in Hunan Province, China. Background: Food safety has always been a major concern for people, and frequent food safety incidents pose a serious threat to people's health and safety. To identify high-risk patterns in the field of food safety and assist regulatory authorities in scientifically managing food safety risks, this study aims to evaluate food safety risks from multiple dimensions and provide a scientific basis for formulating targeted food safety management measures. Methods: The risk matrix method, along with the Borda method, is used to evaluate food safety risks. Based on the constructed food safety incident database, the risk matrix method is applied for static risk assessment from seven aspects: food categories, years, provinces, incident entities, causes, pollution sources, and links, and for dynamic risk assessment in different provinces. Results: The top five food categories in risk ranking are meat and meat products, fruits and vegetables, grain and grain products, other category, and aquatic products. Food safety risks show an increasing trend year by year, with the years 2006, 2012-2015 and 2019 having higher risk rankings. The top three provinces in risk ranking are Hunan, Guangdong, and Shaanxi. The top four entities in risk ranking are restaurants, enterprises, households, and canteens. The top four causes in risk ranking are human intention, human error, mismanagement, and production and social environment. The top four pollution sources in risk ranking include chemical pollution, other pollution, biological pollution, and food additives. The top three links in risk ranking include production and processing link, catering link, and agricultural production link. Across provinces, food safety risks in the years 2012-2015 are generally higher compared to other years, with the highest number of high-risk provinces in 2014. Implication: The findings of this study have significant implications for food safety management in China. By implementing food safety risk prevention and control countermeasures proposed, China can strengthen its food safety management framework, reduce the incidence of food safety incidents, and safeguard the health and well-being of its population. Straw burning is a significant source of atmospheric pollutants, releasing particulate matter and trace gases. Capturing the characteristics of straw burning and understanding its influencing factors are important prerequisites for regulating straw burning. Based on the fire points detected by the Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) in Hunan province, China, from 2010 to 2020, this study analyzed the spatiotemporal variations of straw burning and employed Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) models to investigate the underlying forces driving straw burning. The results show that the spatiotemporal characteristics of straw burning in Hunan Province can be categorized into two distinct periods: 2010 to 2014 and 2015 to 2020. The period from 2010 to 2014 witnessed a rapid increase, while the period from 2015 to 2020 experienced fluctuating decreases. The shift is closely linked to the implementation of the straw burning ban policy in 2015. Spatially, the areas with a high number of fire points are primarily located in the southern regions, especially in the border regions between Chenzhou, Yongzhou, Hengyang, and Shaoyang cities. A significant change was found in the impact of economic development and human activity factors on straw burning before and after 2015. These factors include crop yield, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and road network development. From the implementation of the straw burning ban policy, increases in GDP and settlement density will have a dampening effect on straw burning in a region. Straw burning locations may shift towards regions with relatively slow economic development. The results could serve as a foundation for decision-making to address the issue of straw burning. Objective: To explore risk factors for birth defects (including a broad range of specific defects). Methods: Data were derived from the Population-based Birth Defects Surveillance System in Hunan Province, China, 2014–2020. The surveillance population included all live births, stillbirths, infant deaths, and legal termination of pregnancy between 28 weeks gestation and 42 days postpartum. The prevalence of birth defects (number of birth defects per 1000 infants) and its 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated. Multivariate logistic regression analysis (method: Forward, Wald, α = 0.05) and adjusted odds ratios (ORs) were used to identify risk factors for birth defects. We used the presence or absence of birth defects (or specific defects) as the dependent variable, and eight variables (sex, residence, number of births, paternal age, maternal age, number of pregnancies, parity, and maternal household registration) were entered as independent variables in multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: Our study included 143,118 infants, and 2984 birth defects were identified, with a prevalence of 20.85% (95%CI: 20.10–21.60). Multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that seven variables (except for parity) were associated with birth defects (or specific defects). There were five factors associated with the overall birth defects. The risk factors included males (OR = 1.49, 95%CI: 1.39–1.61), multiple births (OR = 1.44, 95%CI: 1.18–1.76), paternal age < 20 (OR = 2.20, 95%CI: 1.19–4.09) or 20–24 (OR = 1.66, 95%CI: 1.42–1.94), maternal age 30–34 (OR = 1.16, 95%CI: 1.04–1.29) or > = 35 (OR = 1.56, 95%CI: 1.33–1.81), and maternal non-local household registration (OR = 2.96, 95%CI: 2.39–3.67). Some factors were associated with the specific defects. Males were risk factors for congenital metabolic disorders (OR = 3.86, 95%CI: 3.15–4.72), congenital limb defects (OR = 1.34, 95%CI: 1.14–1.58), and congenital kidney and urinary defects (OR = 2.35, 95%CI: 1.65–3.34). Rural areas were risk factors for congenital metabolic disorders (OR = 1.21, 95%CI: 1.01–1.44). Multiple births were risk factors for congenital heart defects (OR = 2.09, 95%CI: 1.55–2.82), congenital kidney and urinary defects (OR = 2.14, 95%CI: 1.05–4.37), and cleft lip and/or palate (OR = 2.85, 95%CI: 1.32–6.15). Paternal age < 20 was the risk factor for congenital limb defects (OR = 3.27, 95%CI: 1.10–9.71), 20–24 was the risk factor for congenital heart defects (OR = 1.64, 95%CI: 1.24–2.17), congenital metabolic disorders (OR = 1.56, 95%CI: 1.11–2.21), congenital limb defects (OR = 1.61, 95%CI: 1.14–2.29), and congenital ear defects (OR = 2.13, 95%CI: 1.17–3.89). Maternal age < 20 was the risk factor for cleft lip and/or palate (OR = 3.14, 95%CI: 1.24–7.95), 30–34 was the risk factor for congenital limb defects (OR = 1.37, 95%CI: 1.09–1.73), >=35 was the risk factor for congenital heart defects (OR = 1.51, 95%CI: 1.14–1.99), congenital limb defects (OR = 1.98, 95%CI: 1.41–2.78), and congenital ear defects (OR = 1.82, 95%CI: 1.06–3.10). Number of pregnancies = 2 was the risk factor for congenital nervous system defects (OR = 2.27, 95%CI: 1.19–4.32), >=4 was the risk factor for chromosomal abnormalities (OR = 2.03, 95%CI: 1.06–3.88) and congenital nervous system defects (OR = 3.03, 95%CI: 1.23–7.47). Maternal non-local household registration was the risk factor for congenital heart defects (OR = 3.57, 95%CI: 2.54–5.03), congenital metabolic disorders (OR = 1.89, 95%CI: 1.06–3.37), congenital limb defects (OR = 2.94, 95%CI: 1.86–4.66), and congenital ear defects (OR = 3.26, 95%CI: 1.60–6.65). Conclusion: In summary, several risk factors were associated with birth defects (including a broad range of specific defects). One risk factor may be associated with several defects, and one defect may be associated with several risk factors. Future studies should examine the mechanisms. Our findings have significant public health implications as some factors are modifiable or avoidable, such as promoting childbirths at the appropriate age, improving the medical and socio-economic conditions of non-local household registration residents, and devoting more resources to some specific defects in high-risk groups, which may help reducing birth defects in China. Purpose: This study aimed to explore the predictors of medical staff's Knowledge, Attitudes and Behavior of dysphagia assessment, to provide reference suggestions for constructing the training program and improving the rate of dysphagia assessment. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study. A total of 353 nurses and doctors from four provinces (Guangdong, Hunan, Guangxi, and Shaanxi) who were selected by convenience sampling and invited to complete the questionnaire through WeChat, DingTalk, and Tencent instant messenger from May 23 to 31, 2022. A self-reported questionnaire was used to assess participants' Knowledge, Attitude and Behavior regarding dysphagia assessment. Participants' sociodemographic, training, and nursing experience were measured using the general information sheet and analyzed as potential predictors of medical staff's Knowledge, Attitudes and Behavior of dysphagia assessment. A multiple linear regression model was used to identify the predictors. Results: The mean scores for Knowledge, Attitudes and Behavior of dysphagia assessments were (15.3±2.7), (35.9±4.9) and (41.4±14.4) respectively. Knowledge and Behavior of medical staff were medium, and attitude was positive. Multiple linear regression results indicated that experience in nursing patients with dysphagia, related training for dysphagia, working years in the field of dysphagia related diseases, specialized training (geriatric, swallowing and rehabilitation) and department (Neurology, Rehabilitation, Geriatrics) were significant predictors of Behavior, accounting for 31.5% of the variance. Working years in the field of dysphagia related diseases, department (Neurology, Rehabilitation, Geriatrics) and title were significant predictors of medical staff's knowledge, accounting for 7.8% of variance. Education, experience in nursing patients with dysphagia, department (Neurology, Rehabilitation, Geriatrics) and related training for dysphagia were significant predictors of medical staff's attitude, accounting for 12.9% of variance. Conclusions: The study findings implied that nursing experience, training, and work for patients with swallowing disorders could have positive effects on the Knowledge, Attitudes and Behavior of medical staff regarding dysphagia assessment. Hospital administrators should provide relevant resources, such as videos of dysphagia assessment, training centers for the assessment of dysphagia, and swallowing specialist nurses.
