Therefore, the prediction of outbreaks is essential for epidemiological diseases. It may be either frequent or sudden infections in society. The unexpected raise in the application of prediction models in recent years is outstanding. A study on these epidemiological prediction models and their usage from the year 2018 onwards is highlighted in this article. Although the precise molecular mechanisms responsible for neuronal death and motor dysfunction in late-onset Parkinson's disease (PD) are unknown, evidence suggests that mitochondrial dysfunction and neuroinflammation occur early, leading to a collective increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and oxidative stress. However, the lack of methods for tracking oxidative stress in the living brain has precluded its use as a potential biomarker. The goal of the current study is to address this need through the evaluation of the first superoxide (O2•−)-sensitive radioactive tracer, [18F]ROStrace, in a model of late-onset PD. To achieve this goal, MitoPark mice with a dopaminergic (DA) neuron-specific deletion of transcription factor A mitochondrial (Tfam) were imaged with [18F]ROStrace from the prodromal phase to the end-stage of PD-like disease. Our data demonstrate [18F]ROStrace was sensitive to increased oxidative stress during the early stages of PD-like pathology in MitoPark mice, which persisted throughout the disease course. Similarly to PD patients, MitoPark males had the most severe parkinsonian symptoms and metabolic impairment. [18F]ROStrace retention was also highest in MitoPark males, suggesting oxidative stress as a potential mechanism underlying the male sex bias of PD. Furthermore, [18F]ROStrace may provide a method to identify patients at risk of Parkinson's before irreparable neurodegeneration occurs and enhance clinical trial design by identifying patients most likely to benefit from antioxidant therapies. The Fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith), is a highly destructive lepidopteran pest known for its extensive feeding on maize (Zea mays L.) and other crops, resulting in a substantial reduction in crop yields. Understanding the metabolic response of maize to FAW infestation is essential for effective pest management and crop protection. Metabolomics, a powerful analytical tool, provides insights into the dynamic changes in maize's metabolic profile in response to FAW infestation. This review synthesizes recent advancements in metabolomics research focused on elucidating maize's metabolic responses to FAW and other lepidopteran pests. It discusses the methodologies used in metabolomics studies and highlights significant findings related to the identification of specific metabolites involved in FAW defense mechanisms. Additionally, it explores the roles of various metabolites, including phytohormones, secondary metabolites, and signaling molecules, in mediating plant–FAW interactions. The review also examines potential applications of metabolomics data in developing innovative strategies for integrated pest management and breeding maize cultivars resistant to FAW by identifying key metabolites and associated metabolic pathways involved in plant–FAW interactions. To ensure global food security and maximize the potential of using metabolomics in enhancing maize resistance to FAW infestation, further research integrating metabolomics with other omics techniques and field studies is necessary. Floods are highly destructive natural disasters. Climate change and urbanization greatly impact their severity and frequency. Understanding flood causes in urban areas is essential due to significant economic and social impacts. Hydrological data and satellite imagery are critical for assessing and managing flood effects. This study uses satellite images, climate anomalies, reservoir data, and cyclonic activity to examine the 2015 and 2023 floods in Chennai, Kanchipuram, and Thiruvallur districts, Tamil Nadu. Synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) satellite data were used to delineate flood extents, and this information was integrated with reservoir data to understand the hydrological dynamics of floods. The classification and regression tree (CART) model delineates flood zones in Chennai, Kanchipuram, and Thiruvallur during the flood years. The study region is highly susceptible to climatic events such as monsoons and cyclones, leading to recurrent flooding. The region's reservoirs discharged floodwaters exceeding 35,000 cubic meters per second in 2015 and 15,000 cubic meters per second in 2023. Further, the study examines the roles of the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), which reached its peak values of 0.33 and 3.96 (positive IOD), and El Niño in causing floods here. The complex network of waterways and large reservoirs poses challenges for flood management. Dental resin composites are widely used in clinical settings but often face longevity issues due to the development and accumulation of microcracks, which eventually lead to larger cracks and restoration failure. The incorporation of microcapsules into these resins has been explored to introduce self-healing capability, potentially extending the lifespan of the restorations. This study aims to enhance the performance of self-healing dental resins by optimizing the microcapsules–resin matrix physicochemical interactions. Poly(urea–formaldehyde) (PUF) microcapsules were reinforced with melamine and subsequently subjected to surface functionalization with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) and (3-mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysilane (MPTMS). Additionally, microcapsules were functionalized with a bilayer approach, incorporating tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) with either APTES or MPTMS. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) confirmed an increased Si:C ratio from 0.006 to 0.165. The functionalization process did not adversely affect the structure of the microcapsules or their healing agent volume. Compared to PUF controls, the functionalized microcapsules demonstrated enhanced healing efficiency, with TEOS/MPTMS-functionalized microcapsules showing the highest performance, showing a toughness recovery of up to 35%. This work introduces a novel approach to functionalization of microcapsules by employing advanced silanizing agents such as APTES and MPTMS, and pioneering bilayer functionalization protocols through their combination with TEOS. Researchers are currently exploring the anticipated sixth-generation (6G) wireless communication network, poised to deliver minimal latency, reduced power consumption, extensive coverage, high-level security, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability. Quality of Service (QoS) improvements can be attained through effective resource management facilitated by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques. This paper proposes two models for enhancing QoS through efficient and sustainable resource allocation and optimization of base stations. The first model, a Hybrid Quantum Deep Learning approach, incorporates Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). CNNs handle resource allocation, network reconfiguration, and slice aggregation tasks, while RNNs are employed for functions like load balancing and error detection. The second model introduces a novel neural network named the Base Station Optimizer net. This network includes various parameters as input and output information about the condition of the base station within the network. Node coverage, number of users, node count and user locations, operating frequency, etc., are different parametric inputs considered for evaluation, providing a binary decision (ON or SLEEP) for each base station. A dynamic allocation strategy aims for network lifetime maximization, ensuring sustainable operations and power consumption are minimized across the network by 2 dB. The QoS performance of the Hybrid Quantum Deep Learning model is evaluated for many devices based on slice characteristics and congestion scenarios to attain an impressive overall accuracy of 98%. Purpose of review: This review investigates the oral microbiome's composition, functions, influencing factors, connections to oral and systemic diseases, and personalized oral care strategies. Recent findings: The oral microbiome is a complex ecosystem consisting of bacteria, fungi, archaea, and viruses that contribute to oral health. Various factors, such as diet, smoking, alcohol consumption, lifestyle choices, and medical conditions, can affect the balance of the oral microbiome and lead to dysbiosis, which can result in oral health issues like dental caries, gingivitis, periodontitis, oral candidiasis, and halitosis. Importantly, our review explores novel associations between the oral microbiome and systemic diseases including gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, endocrinal, and neurological conditions, autoimmune diseases, and cancer. We comprehensively review the efficacy of interventions like dental probiotics, xylitol, oral rinses, fluoride, essential oils, oil pulling, and peptides in promoting oral health by modulating the oral microbiome. Summary: This review emphasizes the critical functions of the oral microbiota in dental and overall health, providing insights into the effects of microbial imbalances on various diseases. It underlines the significant connection between the oral microbiota and general health. Due to a rise in industrial pollutants in modern life, the climate and energy crisis have grown more widespread. One of the best ways to deal with dye degradation, hydrogen production, and carbon dioxide reduction issues is the photocatalytic technique. Among various methods, catalytic technology has demonstrated tremendous promise in recent years as a cheap, sustainable, and environmentally benign technology. The expeditious establishment of carbon-based metal nanoparticles as catalysts in the disciplines of materials and chemical engineering for catalytic applications triggered by visible light is largely attributed to their advancement. There have been many wonderful catalysts created, but there are still many obstacles to overcome, which include the cost of catalysts being reduced and their effectiveness being increased. Carbon-based materials exhibit a unique combination of characteristics that make them ideal catalysts for various reaction types. These characteristics include an exceptional electrical conductivity, well-defined structures at the nanoscale, inherent water repellency, and the ability to tailor surface properties for specific applications. This versatility allows them to be effective in diverse catalytic processes, encompassing organic transformations and photocatalysis. The emergence of carbon-based nanostructured materials, including fullerenes, carbon dots, carbon nanotubes, graphitic carbon nitride, and graphene, presents a promising alternative to conventional catalysts. This review focuses on the diverse functionalities of these materials within the realm of catalysis materials for degradation, hydrogen production, and carbon dioxide reduction. Additionally, it explores the potential for their commercialization, delving into the underlying mechanisms and key factors that influence their performance. Nuclear lamins, a type V intermediate filament, are crucial components of the nuclear envelope's inner layer, maintaining nuclear integrity and mediating interactions between the nucleus and cytoplasm. Research on human iPSC-derived cells and animal models has demonstrated the importance of lamins in cardiac and skeletal muscle development and function. Mutations in lamins result in laminopathies, a group of diseases including muscular dystrophies, Hutchison–Gilford progeria syndrome, and cardiomyopathies with conduction defects. These conditions have been linked to disrupted autophagy, mTOR, Nrf2-Keap, and proteostasis signaling pathways, indicating complex interactions between the nucleus and cytoplasm. Despite progress in understanding these pathways, many questions remain about the mechanisms driving lamin-induced pathologies, leading to limited therapeutic options. This review examines the current literature on dysregulated pathways in cardiac and skeletal muscle laminopathies and explores potential therapeutic strategies for these conditions. In this paper, we describe the supervised dynamic correlated topic model (sDCTM) for classifying categorical time series. This model extends the correlated topic model used for analyzing textual documents to a supervised framework that features dynamic modeling of latent topics. sDCTM treats each time series as a document and each categorical value in the time series as a word in the document. We assume that the observed time series is generated by an underlying latent stochastic process. We develop a state-space framework to model the dynamic evolution of the latent process, i.e., the hidden thematic structure of the time series. Our model provides a Bayesian supervised learning (classification) framework using a variational Kalman filter EM algorithm. The E-step and M-step, respectively, approximate the posterior distribution of the latent variables and estimate the model parameters. The fitted model is then used for the classification of new time series and for information retrieval that is useful for practitioners. We assess our method using simulated data. As an illustration to real data, we apply our method to promoter sequence identification data to classify E. coli DNA sub-sequences by uncovering hidden patterns or motifs that can serve as markers for promoter presence. This research examines the significance of restoring efficient water management systems in India's semiarid environment, with special emphasis on the role of traditional irrigation structures, such as tanks, in collecting and storing limited water resources. Assessing the benefits of any restoration program, especially when socioeconomic and environmental benefits are involved, is challenging. In the context of tank rehabilitation, a cost-benefit analysis will be conducted regarding economic and ecological returns in the post-desiltation phase. Since the restoration process requires a significant investment, assessing the project's viability during the planning stage is better. The present study proposes a novel method to indirectly analyse the cost-benefit of the tank restoration process by correlating run-off and storage capacity of tanks before the planning phase. The Ambuliyar sub-basin, which covers an area of 930 square kilometres in Tamil Nadu, India, comprising 181 tanks (water bodies) of varying sizes and shapes, was taken for this study. This study employed the Soil Conservation Service Curve Number (SCS-CN) method, incorporating factors such as soil type, land cover, land use practices, and advanced remote sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) tools to simulate surface run-off. Run-off volume and tank capacity were compared for all seasons at the micro-watershed level. The results demonstrated that the run-off volume in each micro-watershed significantly exceeded the tank capacity across all seasons. Even during the summer, the run-off volumes in the micro-watershed were considerably higher than the tank capacity. The findings suggest tank restoration can effectively store run-off and significantly fulfil agricultural and other essential needs throughout the year, thereby improving the local rural economy. Cargo encapsulation through emulsion-based methods has been pondered over the years. Although several microemulsification techniques have been employed for the microcapsule's synthesis, there are still no clear guidelines regarding the suitability of one technique over the others or the impacts on the morphological and physicochemical stability of the final particles. Therefore, in this systematic study, we investigated the influence of synthesis parameters on the fabrication of emulsion-based microcapsules concerning morphological and physicochemical properties. Using poly(urea-formaldehyde) (PUF) microcapsules as a model system, and after determining the optimal core/shell ratio, we tested three different microemulsification techniques (magnetic stirring, ultrasonication, and mechanical stirring) and two different cargo types (100% TEGDMA (Triethylene glycol dimethacrylate) and 80% TEGDMA + 20% DMAM (N,N-Dimethylacrylamide)). The resulting microcapsules were characterized via optical and scanning electron microscopies, followed by size distribution analysis. The encapsulation efficiency was obtained through the extraction method, and the percentage reaction yield was calculated. Physicochemical properties were assessed by incubating the microcapsules under different osmotic pressures for 1 day and 1, 2, or 4 weeks. The data were analyzed statistically with one-way ANOVA and Tukey's tests (α = 0.05). Overall, the mechanical stirring resulted in the most homogeneous and stable microcapsules, with an increased reaction yield from 100% to 50% in comparison with ultrasonication and magnetic methods, respectively. The average microcapsule diameter ranged from 5 to 450 µm, with the smallest ones in the ultrasonication and the largest ones in the magnetic stirring groups. The water affinities of the encapsulated cargo influenced the microcapsule formation and stability, with the incorporation of DMAM leading to more homogeneous and stable microcapsules. Environmental osmotic pressure led to cargo loss or the selective swelling of the shells. In summary, this systematic investigation provides insights and highlights commonly overlooked factors that can influence microcapsule fabrication and guide the choice based on a diligent analysis of therapeutic niche requirements. The increased use of chemicals in rice farming poses significant issues regarding the emergence of pesticide/fungicide resistance and environmental sustainability concerns. This study was aimed at the genetic improvement of blast, bacterial leaf blight (BB) and gall midge resistance in a popular rice variety CO 51 which already harbours a blast resistance gene Pi54. Efforts were made to pyramid an additional blast resistance gene Pi9 along with two BB resistance genes (xa13 and Xa21) and two gall midge resistance genes (Gm1 and Gm4) into an elite rice variety CO 51 to enhance the resistance level to biotic stresses. The superior lines were selected using functional markers conferring resistance to blast (NBS4 and Pi54MAS linked to Pi9 and Pi54 genes, respectively) and BB [(xa13Prom (xa13) and pTA248 (Xa21)] and SSR markers linked to Gm1 (RM1328) and Gm4 (RM22550) for phenotypic screening and agronomic evaluation. The genotyping and phenotyping of F6 and BC2F6 progenies of CO 51 X 562-4, for agronomic traits and resistance to BB and blast, identified ten superior progenies in F6 and five superior progenies in BC2F6. The breeding lines harbouring both xa13+Xa21 exhibited high levels of resistance to BB (score ≤ 1 cm) and Pi9+Pi54 exhibited strong resistance to blast (score ≤ 2). The effect of SO (shrimp oil) at various levels (5, 10, and 15%) on the stability of mayonnaise was investigated. Droplet size (d32 and d43), polydispersity index, and microstructure results showed an upsurge in droplet sizes with augmenting level of SO in mayonnaise (5 to 15%) (p < 0.05). SO imparted a bright orange color to the mayonnaise as evidenced by increased a* and b* values with lower L* values (p < 0.05). Moreover, the impact of a fish myofibrillar protein (FMP) substitution for egg yolk (0, 25, 50, 75%) in mayonnaise containing SO (5% and 10%) was also studied. Increasing the level of FMP substitution in SO-added mayonnaise showed a dilution effect and reduced a* and b* values (p < 0.05). In addition, excessive FMP substitution up to 75% drastically increased centrifugal and thermal creaming indices, indicating lowered stability (p < 0.05). Nevertheless, with the augmenting FMP substitutions, the viscosity, texture, and rheological properties in mayonnaise became lower (p < 0.05). However, there were no differences in overall acceptability scores between 5% SO-added mayonnaise with 25% FMP substitution (SO5:FMP25) and 5% SO-added mayonnaise without FMP substitution (SO5:FMP0) (p > 0.05). A confocal laser scanning microscopic (CLSM) study revealed a smaller droplet and less aggregation in the SO5:FMP0 sample, compared to SO5:FMP25. The incorporation of SO and FMP substitution yielded the resulting mayonnaise, which met the requirements of a healthy food since SO is rich in PUFA and the replacement of egg yolk by FMP can contribute several health benefits. Gene therapy holds promise as a life-changing option for individuals with genetic variants that give rise to disease. FDA-approved gene therapies for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy, β-Thalassemia, hemophilia A/B, retinal dystrophy, and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy have generated buzz around the ability to change the course of genetic syndromes. However, this excitement risks over-expansion into areas of genetic disease that may not fit the current state of gene therapy. While in situ (targeted to an area) and ex vivo (removal of cells, delivery, and administration of cells) approaches show promise, they have a limited target ability. Broader in vivo gene therapy trials have shown various continued challenges, including immune response, use of immune suppressants correlating to secondary infections, unknown outcomes of overexpression, and challenges in driving tissue-specific corrections. Viral delivery systems can be associated with adverse outcomes such as hepatotoxicity and lethality if uncontrolled. In some cases, these risks are far outweighed by the potentially lethal syndromes for which these systems are being developed. Therefore, it is critical to evaluate the field of genetic diseases to perform cost–benefit analyses for gene therapy. In this work, we present the current state while setting forth tools and resources to guide informed directions to avoid foreseeable issues in gene therapy that could prevent the field from continued success. Simple Summary: Current means of bladder cancer diagnosis are invasive or lack sensitivity. Dysbiosis of the urinary microbiome has been implicated in the development of bladder cancer, though its potential as a diagnostic tool is unknown. This study attempts to characterize bladder cancer-specific dysbiosis of the urinary microbiome to explore its diagnostic potential. Numerous species were observed to be differentially abundant between the urine samples of patients with bladder cancer and healthy individuals. Specific immune modulations were observed with respect to these species, as was the enrichment of select pathways known to be implicated in the progression of bladder cancer. The study suggests that the urinary microbiome may reflect dysregulations of the tumor microenvironment. Further investigation may reveal the potential of the identified species as urinary biomarkers of this disease. In this way, the urinary microbiome may allow for the noninvasive and earlier detection of bladder cancer, regardless of stage or subtype. There are a total of 82,290 new cases and 16,710 deaths estimated for bladder cancer in the United States in 2023. Currently, urine cytology tests are widely used for bladder cancer diagnosis, though they suffer from variable sensitivity, ranging from 45 to 97%. More recently, the microbiome has become increasingly recognized for its role in human diseases, including cancers. This study attempts to characterize urinary microbiome bladder cancer-specific dysbiosis to explore its diagnostic potential. RNA-sequencing data of urine samples from patients with bladder cancer (n = 18) and matched controls (n = 12) were mapped to bacterial sequences to yield species-level abundance approximations. Urine samples were analyzed at both the population and species level to reveal dysbiosis associated with bladder cancer. A panel of 35 differentially abundant species was discovered, which may be useful as urinary biomarkers for this disease. We further assessed whether these species were of similar significance in a validation dataset (n = 81), revealing that the genera Escherichia, Acinetobacter, and Enterobacter were consistently differentially abundant. We discovered distinct patterns of microbial-associated immune modulation in these samples. Several immune pathways were found to be significantly enriched with respect to the abundance of these species, including antigen processing and presentation, cytosolic DNA sensing, and leukocyte transendothelial migration. Differential cytokine activity was similarly observed, suggesting the urinary microbiome's correlation to immune modulation. The adherens junction and WNT signaling pathways, both implicated in the development and progression of bladder cancer, were also enriched with these species. Our findings indicate that the urinary microbiome may reflect both microbial and immune dysregulations of the tumor microenvironment in bladder cancer. Given the potential biomarker species identified, the urinary microbiome may provide a non-invasive, more sensitive, and more specific diagnostic tool, allowing for the earlier diagnosis of patients with bladder cancer. With the advent of the "Internet of Things" (IoT), insurers are increasingly leveraging remote sensor technology in the development of novel insurance products and risk management programs. For example, Hartford Steam Boiler's (HSB) IoT freeze loss program uses IoT temperature sensors to monitor indoor temperatures in locations at high risk of water-pipe burst (freeze loss) with the goal of reducing insurances losses via real-time monitoring of the temperature data streams. In the event these monitoring systems detect a potentially risky temperature environment, an alert is sent to the end-insured (business manager, tenant, maintenance staff, etc.), prompting them to take remedial action by raising temperatures. In the event that an alert is sent and freeze loss occurs, the firm is not liable for any damages incurred by the event. For the program to be effective, there must be a reliable method of verifying if customers took appropriate corrective action after receiving an alert. Due to the program's scale, direct follow up via text or phone calls is not possible for every alert event. In addition, direct feedback from customers is not necessarily reliable. In this paper, we propose the use of a non-linear, auto-regressive time series model, coupled with the time series intervention analysis method known as causal impact, to directly evaluate whether or not a customer took action directly from IoT temperature streams. Our method offers several distinct advantages over other methods as it is (a) readily scalable with continued program growth, (b) entirely automated, and (c) inherently less biased than human labelers or direct customer response. Low-density foreign objects (LDFOs) in foods pose significant safety risks to consumers. Existing detection methods, such as metal and X-ray detectors, have limitations in identifying low-density and nonmetallic contaminants. To address these challenges, our research group constructed and optimized a continuous-wave sub-terahertz (THz) imaging system for the real-time, on-site detection of LDFOs in infant snacks. The system was optimized by adjusting the attenuation value from 0 to 9 dB and image processing parameters [White (W), Black (B), and Gamma (G)] from 0 to 100. Its detectability was evaluated across eight LDFOs underneath snacks with scanning at 30 cm/s. The optimal settings for puffed snacks and freeze-dried chips were found to be 3 dB attenuation with W, B, and G values of 100, 50, and 80, respectively, while others required 0 dB attenuation with W, B, and G set to 100, 0, and 100, respectively. Additionally, the moisture content of infant snacks was measured using a modified AOAC-based drying method at 105 °C, ensuring the removal of all free moisture. Using these optimized settings, the system successfully detected a housefly and a cockroach underneath puffed snacks and freeze-dried chips. It also detected LDFOs as small as 3 mm in size in a single layer of snacks, including polyurethane, polyvinyl chloride, ethylene–propylene–diene–monomer, and silicone, while in two layers of infant snacks, they were detected up to 7.5 mm. The application of nanotechnology in agriculture has increased rapidly. However, the fate and effects of various nanoparticles on the soil, plants, and humans are not fully understood. Reports indicate that nanoparticles exhibit positive and negative impacts on biota due to their size, surface property, concentration within the system, and species or cell type under test. In plants, nanoparticles are translocated either by apoplast or symplast pathway or both. Also, it is not clear whether the nanoparticles entering the plant system remain as nanoparticles or are biotransformed into ionic forms or other organic compounds. Controversial results on the toxicity effects of nanomaterials on the plant system are available. In general, the nanomaterial toxicity was exerted by producing reactive oxygen species, leading to damage or denaturation of various biomolecules. The intensity of cyto- and geno-toxicity depends on the physical and chemical properties of nanoparticles. Based on the literature survey, it is observed that the effects of nanoparticles on the growth, photosynthesis, and primary and secondary metabolism of plants are both positive and negative; the response of these processes to the nanoparticle was associated with the type of nanoparticle, the concentration within the tissue, crop species, and stage of growth. Future studies should focus on addressing the key knowledge gaps in understanding the responses of plants to nanoparticles at all levels through global transcriptome, proteome, and metabolome assays and evaluating nanoparticles under field conditions at realistic exposure concentrations to determine the level of entry of nanoparticles into the food chain and assess the impact of nanoparticles on the ecosystem. Somatic embryogenesis (SE) provides alternative methodologies for the propagation of grapevine (Vitis spp.) cultivars, conservation of their germplasm resources, and crop improvement. In this review, the current state of knowledge regarding grapevine SE as applied to these technologies is presented, with a focus on the benefits, challenges, and limitations of this method. The paper provides a comprehensive overview of the different steps involved in the grapevine SE process, including callus induction, maintenance of embryogenic cultures, and the production of plantlets. Additionally, the review explores the development of high-health plant material through SE; the molecular and biochemical mechanisms underlying SE, including the regulation of gene expression, hormone signaling pathways, and metabolic pathways; as well as its use in crop improvement programs. The review concludes by highlighting the future directions for grapevine SE research, including the development of new and improved protocols, the integration of SE with other plant tissue culture techniques, and the application of SE for the production of elite grapevine cultivars, for the conservation of endangered grapevine species as well as for cultivars with unique traits that are valuable for breeding programs. Background/Objectives: Multiple independent variables were analyzed to determine total nutritional intake (caloric and protein), while reviewing vasoactive inotrope scores (VISs). Methods: Retrospective data were collected for nutritional intake (N = 64), daily VISs, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) complications, delays in nutritional intake (>48 h), reason for delay, and interruptions in nutrition support. Results: VISs and ECMO characteristics analyzed by box–whisker plots demonstrated that ECMO complications prior to 24 h, cardiac arrest 24 h prior to ECMO, pediatric ECMO patients, venoarterial ECMO type, having a cardiac ECMO indication, and ECMO centrifugal pump had higher VISs. A regression analysis revealed that venovenous ECMO patients and the centrifugal pump type had higher caloric and protein intake; subsequently, for each increase in VIS, caloric intake decreased by −0.54. Sixteen patients did not receive nutritional support while on ECMO (9/16; 56% cardiac); 12/48 (25%) had a delay, with the cardiac patients nearing statistical significance. Conclusion: Venovenous ECMO (non-cardiac) correlated with higher nutritional intake. The enteral administration of nutrition had a lower VIS on average compared to the other three groupings, namely enteral vs. parenteral; enteral vs. both enteral and parenteral; enteral vs. no nutrition. Background: Aseptic nonunion of femoral shafts after intramedullary nailing (IMN) can be a challenging condition that may lead to long-term disability and the need for multiple surgical procedures. This study compared the clinical and radiological outcomes between exchange nailing and augmentative plating with bone grafting. Methods: In this multicenter, prospective, single-blind, randomized controlled trial, patients with aseptic nonunion of the femoral shaft after IMN were randomly assigned to receive exchange nailing or augmentative plating. The primary outcomes measured were the time to bone union and union rate 12 months after revision surgery. The secondary outcomes included operative time, blood loss, hospitalization duration, pain level using the visual analog scale (VAS), knee range of motion (ROM), and complication rates. Results: The augmentative plating group had a significantly shorter mean time to union (5.39 ± 1.29 months) compared with the exchange nailing group (7.38 ± 1.97 months; p < 0.001). The union rates at 12 months were 100% in the augmentative plating group and 89.65% in the exchange nail group. Augmentative plating resulted in a shorter operation time (99.46 ± 11.08 min vs. 106.45 ± 12.22 min; p = 0.025) and reduced blood loss (514.79 ± 45.87 mL vs. 547.72 ± 54.35 mL; p = 0.016). Significant pain reduction was observed in the augmentative plating group, with preoperative VAS scores decreasing from 6.04 ± 2.28 to 2.64 ± 1.50, compared with a decrease from 5.66 ± 2.21 to 3.66 ± 2.19 in the exchange nailing group (p = 0.047). Knee ROM improved significantly in the augmentative plating group (p = 0.0176). The complication rate was lower in the augmentative plating group (3.57%) than in the exchange nail group (17.24%). Conclusions: Augmentative plating with autologous bone grafting is superior to exchange nailing for treating aseptic nonunion of femoral shafts. It is associated with faster healing, higher union rates, better clinical and functional outcomes, and fewer complications. Cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) are cell surface glycoproteins mediating interactions of cells with other cells and the extracellular matrix. By mediating the adhesion and modulating activity of other plasma membrane proteins, CAMs are involved in regulating a multitude of cellular processes, including growth, proliferation, migration, and survival of cells. In this review, we present evidence showing that various CAMs interact with the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), a receptor tyrosine kinase inducing pro-proliferative and anti-apoptotic intracellular signaling in response to binding to several soluble ligands, including the epidermal growth factor. We discuss that CAMs are involved in regulating EGFR signaling by either potentiating or inhibiting the soluble ligand-dependent activation of EGFR. In addition, CAMs induce soluble ligand-independent forms of EGFR activity and regulate the levels of EGFR and its ligand-induced degradation. The CAM-dependent modulation of EGFR activity plays a key role in regulating the growth, proliferation, and survival of cells. Simple Summary: The majority of breast cancers express estrogen receptors (ER) and are treated with antiestrogens. However, many patients relapse and do not respond to further treatment. Therefore, an understanding of which molecules/pathways are affected in breast cancer is important. The Akt/mTOR (mechanistic target of rapamycin) pathway is often altered in breast cancers and is an important target for cancer therapy. The ribosomal S6 kinase 2 (S6K2) acts downstream of mTOR and has been associated with ER-positive breast cancers, but little is known about how S6K2 functions in these cancers. The aim of our present study was to identify potential downstream effectors of S6K2. We identified p21/CDKN1A as a novel downstream target of S6K2 in ER-positive breast cancer cells and showed that S6K2 acts via Akt and JNK signaling pathways to regulate p21 and an upregulation of p21 contributes to chemoresistance. Thus, targeting components of the S6K2/p21 signaling pathway could reverse chemoresistance. The objective of this study was to use an unbiased transcriptome profiling to uncover how S6K2 promotes breast cancer cell survival. Methods: RNA-Seq analysis was performed to identify novel S6K2 targets. Cells were transfected with siRNAs or plasmids containing genes of interest. Western blot analyses were performed to quantify total and phosphorylated proteins. Apoptosis was monitored by treating cells with different concentrations of doxorubicin. Results: Silencing of S6K2, but not S6K1, decreased p21 in MCF-7 and T47D breast cancer cells. Knockdown of Akt1 but not Akt2 decreased p21 in MCF-7 cells whereas both Akt1 and Akt2 knockdown attenuated p21 in T47D cells. While Akt1 overexpression enhanced p21 and partially reversed the effect of S6K2 deficiency on p21 downregulation in MCF-7 cells, it had little effect in T47D cells. S6K2 knockdown increased JUN mRNA and knockdown of cJun enhanced p21. Low concentrations of doxorubicin increased, and high concentrations decreased p21 levels in T47D cells. Silencing of S6K2 or p21 sensitized T47D cells to doxorubicin via c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK)-mediated downregulation of Mcl-1. In this study, hydrodynamic cavitation technology was utilized to prepare conjugates of soy protein isolate (SPI) with polyphenols, including resveratrol (RA) and polydatin (PD) from the stilbene category, as well as arctiin (AC) and magnolol (MN) from the lignan category. To investigate the effects of hydrodynamic cavitation treatment on the interactions between SPI and these polyphenols, the polyphenol binding capacity with SPI was measured and the changes in the exposed sulfhydryl and free amino contents were analyzed. Various methods, including ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and circular dichroism spectroscopy, were also used to characterize the structural properties of the SPI–polyphenol conjugates. The results showed that compared to untreated SPI, SPI treated with hydrodynamic cavitation exposed more active groups, facilitating a greater binding capacity with the polyphenols. After the hydrodynamic cavitation treatment, the ultraviolet–visible absorption of the SPI–polyphenol conjugates increased while the fluorescence intensity decreased. Additionally, the content of exposed sulfhydryl and free amino groups declined, and changes in the secondary structure were observed, characterized by an increase in the α-helix and random coil content accompanied by a decrease in the β-sheet and β-turn content. Furthermore, the SPI–polyphenol conjugates treated with hydrodynamic cavitation demonstrated improved emulsifying characteristics and antioxidant activity. This study explored the effects of spinach flour (SF) enrichment on pasta, focusing on chemical, nutritional and sensory properties, cooking performance, and microbiological stability. SF was added at 12.5% (PSP12) and 25% (PSP25). The enriched pasta had a lower pH than the control (CP), due to spinach-derived organic acids, with PSP25 showing the highest fiber content. Enrichment increased B vitamins and minerals, especially calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium. PSP25 had a shorter cooking time, higher water absorption, and greater cooking loss. Enriched pasta showed lower starch hydrolysis index and predicted glycemic index, suggesting potential benefits for managing postprandial blood sugar levels. SF significantly altered the free amino acid (FAA) profile, with PSP25 showing the highest concentration of total FAAs. Antioxidant assays demonstrated that spinach-enriched pasta retained higher levels of phenols and flavonoids, after cooking also, compared to CP. Sensory analysis indicated that while PSP12 had higher overall acceptability, PSP25 exhibited stronger herbaceous flavors, which could affect consumer preference. Microbiologically, all samples were stable for 110 days. The findings suggest that SF enrichment enhances the nutritional value, antioxidant potential, and sensory qualities of pasta, with potential for commercial applications, although consumer acceptance could be influenced by its non-traditional taste and texture. Extensive evidence indicates that the compromise of airway epithelial barrier function is closely linked to the development of various diseases, posing a significant concern for global mortality and morbidity. Flavonoids, natural bioactive compounds, renowned for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, have been used for centuries to prevent and treat numerous ailments. Lately, a growing body of evidence suggests that flavonoids can enhance the integrity of the airway epithelial barrier. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of selected flavonoids representing different subclasses, such as kaempferol (flavonol), luteolin (flavone), and naringenin (flavanone), on transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER), ionic currents, cells migration, and proliferation of a human bronchial epithelial cell line (16HBE14σ). To investigate the effect of selected flavonoids, MTT assay, trypan blue staining, and wound healing were assessed. Additionally, transepithelial resistance and Ussing chamber measurements were applied to investigate the impact of the flavonoids on the electrical properties of the epithelial barrier. This study showed that kaempferol, luteolin, and naringenin at micromolar concentrations were not cytotoxic to 16HBE14σ cells. Indeed, in MTT tests, a statistically significant change in cell metabolic activity for luteolin and naringenin was observed. However, our experiments showed that naringenin did not affect the proliferation of 16HBE14σ cells, while the effect of kaempferol and luteolin was inhibitory. Moreover, transepithelial electrical resistance measurements have shown that all of the flavonoids used in this study improved the epithelial integrity with the slightest effect of kaempferol and the significant impact of naringenin and luteolin. Finally, our observations suggest that luteolin increases the Cl- transport through cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) channel. Our findings reveal that flavonoids representing different subclasses exert distinct effects in the employed cellular model despite their similar chemical structures. In summary, our study sheds new light on the diverse effects of selected flavonoids on airway epithelial barrier function, underscoring the importance of further exploration into their potential therapeutic applications in respiratory health. Intracanal medicaments are an important adjunct to the effective disinfection of the root canal system. However, conventional intracanal medicaments do not provide adequate protection against Enterococcus faecalis, which is the organism of interest in many cases of root canal failures. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of biosynthesized calcium oxide nanoparticles (CaO NPs) on the antibacterial activity, pH, microleakage and cytotoxicity of intracanal medicaments. CaO NPs were biosynthesized by the direct thermal decomposition of eggshells (EGS) and the reduction of calcium nitrate with papaya leaf extract (PLE). These nanoparticles were mixed with a proprietary calcium hydroxide powder in 10% and 25% (w/w) concentrations and blended in analytical-grade coconut oil to formulate the experimental medicaments. These were then evaluated for antibacterial activity, pH, microleakage and cytotoxicity at 1 day, 7 days and 15 days. A proprietary calcium hydroxide paste formulation (MX) was used as the control. Means and standard deviations were calculated and analyzed using repeated-measures ANOVA for pH and three-way ANOVA for the antibacterial effect, microleakage and cytotoxicity, followed by LSD post hoc analysis. Significant antibacterial activity was noted against Enterococcus faecalis at all times, with zones of inhibition (ZOI) up to 19.60 ± 2.30 mm. pH levels up to 13.13 ± 0.35 were observed for the experimental groups. Microleakage remained comparable to the control, while cytotoxicity was not observed in any of the groups at any time. Intracanal medicaments formulated with 10% and 25% (w/w) of biosynthesized CaO NPs could be promising candidates for the disinfection of the root canal system compared to conventional counterparts. Hepatocellular carcinoma is characterized by high recurrence rates and poor prognosis. Cancer stem cells contribute to tumor heterogeneity, treatment resistance, and recurrence. This study aims to identify key genes associated with stemness and immune cell infiltration in HCC. We analyzed RNA sequencing data from The Cancer Genome Atlas to calculate mRNA expression-based stemness index in HCC. A weighted gene co-expression network analysis was performed to identify stemness-related gene modules. A single-sample gene set enrichment analysis was used to evaluate immune cell infiltration. Key genes were validated using RT-qPCR. The mRNAsi was significantly higher in HCC tissues compared to adjacent normal tissues and correlated with poor overall survival. WGCNA and subsequent analyses identified 10 key genes, including minichromosome maintenance complex component 2, cell division cycle 6, forkhead box M1, NIMA-related kinase 2, Holliday junction recognition protein, DNA topoisomerase II alpha, denticleless E3 ubiquitin protein ligase homolog, maternal embryonic leucine zipper kinase, protein regulator of cytokinesis 1, and kinesin family member C1, associated with stemness and low immune cell infiltration. These genes were significantly upregulated in HCC tissues. A functional enrichment analysis revealed their involvement in cell cycle regulation. This study identified 10 key genes related to stemness and immune cell infiltration in HCC. These genes, primarily involved in cell cycle regulation, may serve as potential targets for developing more effective treatments to reduce HCC recurrence and improve patient outcomes. In order to satisfy the large-scale access of visible light communication (VLC) users, as well as the demand for user request rate, the resource allocation problem of visible light communication with drone-assisted non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technique is investigated. An efficient scheme for joint optimization of power allocation and access point (AP) location is proposed. According to the state of user channel information, a user pairing strategy with uniform channel gain difference for any number of users is designed, and an objective function of maximizing the average user data rate with constraints is constructed. For this non-convex NP-hard problem, the optimization problem with constraints is transformed into an optimization problem without constraints by introducing the idea of a penalty function and then solved by the Harris Hawk Optimization (HHO) algorithm based on the nonlinear energy convergence factor, and ultimately, the optimal user power allocation factor, as well as the location of the AP, are found. The simulation results show that the scheme in this paper can improve the average user data rate better compared to other classical schemes. The system performance of the HHO algorithm is improved by about 20.31% compared to the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. Viral spillover represents the transmission of pathogen viruses from one species to another that can give rise to an outbreak. It is a critical concept that has gained increasing attention, particularly after the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. However, the term is often used inaccurately to describe events that do not meet the true definition of spillover. This review aims to clarify the proper use of the term and provides a detailed analysis of the mechanisms driving zoonotic spillover, with a focus on the genetic and environmental factors that enable viruses to adapt to new hosts. Key topics include viral genetic variability in reservoir species, biological barriers to cross-species transmission, and the factors that influence viral adaptation and spread in novel hosts. The review also examines the role of evolutionary processes such as mutation and epistasis, alongside ecological conditions that facilitate the emergence of new pathogens. Adeno-Associated Viruses (AAVs, genus Dependoparvovirus) are the leading gene therapy vector. Until recently, efforts to enhance their capacity for gene delivery had focused on their capsids. However, efforts are increasingly shifting towards improving the viral replication protein, Rep78. We discovered that Rep78 and its shorter isoform Rep52 contain a strictly C-terminal sequence motif, DDx3EQ, conserved in most dependoparvoviruses. The motif is highly negatively charged and devoid of prolines. Its wide conservation suggests that it is required for the life cycle of dependoparvoviruses. Despite its short length, the motif's strictly C-terminal position has the potential to endow it with a high recognition specificity. A candidate target of the DDx3EQ motif might be the DNA-binding interface of the origin-binding domain of Rep78, which is highly positively charged. The host transcription factor p53 is a critical tumor suppressor in HPV-induced carcinogenesis, regulating target genes involved in cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. However, the p53 targets have not been thoroughly analyzed in HPV-infected cells. In this study, p53 signaling in HPV16 and HPV18 cells was activated by depleting the viral oncoprotein E6. Subsequently, p53-regulated genes were identified by comparing them with genes altered in p53-silenced cells. True p53 targets were defined as genes with at least one overlapping p53 binding site and ChIP peak near their locus. Our analysis revealed that while some p53 targets were common to both the HPV16 and HPV18 cells, the majority of the targets differed between these two types, potentially contributing to the varying prevalence of HPV16 and HPV18 in cervical cancer. Additionally, we identified SCN2A as a novel p53 target involved in p53-induced cell cycle arrest in HPV-related carcinogenesis. Theranostic Nuclear Medicine is based on the idea of combining the same molecule (or drug) with different radioisotopes for both diagnosis and treatment, a concept that emerged in the early 1940s with the use of radioactive iodine for thyroid diseases. Theranostic Nuclear Medicine has since expanded to diseases of higher incidence, such as prostate cancer, with several imaging methods used to assess the extent of the disease and the corresponding radiopharmaceuticals used for treatment. For example, by detecting osteoblastic metastases by bone scintigraphy, corresponding radiopharmaceuticals with therapeutic properties can be administered to eliminate or reduce pain associated with metastases and/or determine overall survival gain. The purpose of this review is to discuss the role of Theranostic Nuclear Medicine in prostate cancer, addressing the main diagnostic imaging studies with their corresponding treatments in the Theranostic model. This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of using geopolymer paste (GP) as an adhesive agent for (i) anchoring steel bars in concrete substrates, (ii) repairing concrete, and (iii) repairing limestone and granite masonry blocks commonly found in historic buildings. In this investigation, seven cement-free GP mixes were developed with different combinations of binder materials (slag, silica fume, and metakaolin). The mechanical properties, adhesive performance, and production cost of the developed GP mixes were compared to those of a commercially epoxy adhesive mortar (EAM). The results obtained from this study indicated that the use of GPs enhanced the bonding between steel bars and concrete substrates, achieving bonding strengths that were 19.7% to 49.2% higher than those of control specimens with steel bars directly installed during casting. In concrete repairs, the GPs were able to restore about 60.6% to 87.9% of the original capacity of the control beams. Furthermore, GPs exhibited a promising performance in repairing limestone and granite masonry blocks, highlighting their potential suitability for masonry structures. The best adhesive performance was observed when a ternary binder material system consisting of 70% slag, 20% metakaolin and 10% silica fume was used. This combination, compared to the investigated EAM, showed comparable adhesive properties at a significantly low cost, indicating the viability of GPs as a cost-effective, eco-friendly adhesive agent. Wheat stripe rust is a fungal disease severely affecting wheat production. Breeding resistant cultivars is the most cost-effective and efficient way to control wheat stripe rust. YrZH84 is an all-stage resistance gene with good resistance to stripe rust. In this study, YrZH84 was introgressed from germplasm Lantian36 (LT36) into the two southwestern Chinese elite wheat cultivars Mianmai367 (MM367, carrying Yr10, Yr26), and Chuanmai104 (CM104, carrying Yr26), using marker-assisted selection. F1 seeds of the two cross-combinations were planted and self-crossed to develop the advanced generations in the field. A total of 397 introgression lines (ILs) were obtained in F6 and genotyped using molecular markers Xcfa2040, Xbarc32 (linked to YrZH84), Yr10 (linked to Yr10), We173, and Xbarc181 (linked to Yr26). The 397 ILs were also evaluated for resistance to stripe rust and agronomic traits, including plant height, number of tillers, spike length, thousand-grain weight, and spikelet number. Finally, 61 lines with appreciative agronomic traits and disease resistance were selected. Among these lines, 31 lines had stripe rust resistance gene YrZH84. These selected lines are expected to become new wheat varieties for their high resistance to stripe rust and excellent agronomic traits that will make important contributions to the control of stripe rust and wheat production. The unique properties of graphene have attracted the interest of researchers from various fields, and the discovery of graphene has sparked a revolution in materials science, specifically in the field of two-dimensional materials. However, graphene synthesis's costly and complex process significantly impairs researchers' endeavors to explore its properties and structure experimentally. Molecular dynamics simulation is a well-established and useful tool for investigating graphene's atomic structure and dynamic behavior at the nanoscale without requiring expensive and complex experiments. The accuracy of the molecular dynamics simulation depends on the potential functions. This work assesses the performance of various potential functions available for graphene in mechanical properties prediction. The following two cases are considered: pristine graphene and pre-cracked graphene. The most popular fifteen potentials have been assessed. Our results suggest that diverse potentials are suitable for various applications. REBO and Tersoff potentials are the best for simulating monolayer pristine graphene, and the MEAM and the AIREBO-m potentials are recommended for those with crack defects because of their respective utilization of the electron density and inclusion of the long-range interaction. A series of Sr1−xDyxTi1−yNbyO3−δ (0.05 ≤ x, y ≤ 0.10) samples were fabricated using cold compaction, followed by sintering in a (95% N2 + 5% H2) reducing atmosphere. We studied the crystal structure and optical properties of Sr1−xDyxTi1−yNbyO3−δ using X-ray diffraction (XRD) with Rietveld refinement, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and ultraviolet−visible−near-infrared (UV−VIS−NIR) spectroscopy. The sintered Sr1−xDyxTi1−yNbyO3−δ had a tetragonal structure (I4/mcm space group). In the sintered samples, Ti ions existed as a mixture of Ti3+ and Ti4+, and Nb ions existed as a mixture of Nb4+ and Nb5+. The band-gap energies decreased with increasing Dy/Nb concentrations. The incorporation of Ti and Nb ions, the formation of both Ti3+ and Nb4+ ions, and the reduction in band-gap energies are likely highly effective for increasing the electron concentration and the corresponding electrical conductivity. Background: Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) is the leading genetic risk factor for late-onset Alzheimer's disease (AD), which is the leading cause of dementia worldwide. Most people have two ApoE-ε3 (ApoE3) alleles, while ApoE-ε2 (ApoE2) is protective from AD, and ApoE-ε4 (ApoE4) confers AD risk. How these alleles modulate AD risk is not clearly defined, and ApoE's role in lipid metabolism is also not fully known. Lipid droplets increase in AD. However, how ApoE contributes to lipid accumulation in the brain remains unknown. Methods: Here, we use Drosophila to study the effects of ApoE alleles on lipid accumulation in the brain and muscle in a cell-autonomous and non-cell-autonomous manner. Results: We report that pan-neuronal expression of each ApoE allele induces lipid accumulation specifically in the brain, but not in the muscle. However, this was not the case when expressed with muscle-specific drivers. ApoE2- and ApoE3-induced lipid accumulation is dependent on the expression of Dgat2, a key regulator of triacylglycerol production, while ApoE4 still induces lipid accumulation even with knock-down of Dgat2. Additionally, we find that implementation of time-restricted feeding (TRF), a dietary intervention in which food access only occurs in the active period (day), prevents ApoE-induced lipid accumulation in the brain of flies and modulates lipid metabolism genes. Conclusions: Altogether, our results demonstrate that ApoE induces lipid accumulation in the brain, that ApoE4 is unique in causing lipid accumulation independent of Dgat2, and that TRF prevents ApoE-induced lipid accumulation. These results support the idea that lipid metabolism is critical in AD, and that TRF could be a promising therapeutic approach to prevent ApoE-associated dysfunction in lipid metabolism. In software engineering, pattern papers serve the purpose of providing a description of a generalized, reusable solution to recurring design problems, based on practical experience and established best practices. This paper presents an architectural pattern for a Secure Auditable Registry service based on Message-Oriented Middleware to be used in large-scale IoT systems that must provide auditing capabilities to external entities. To prepare the pattern, the direct experience in applying the pattern solution in an industry-funded R&D project has been a key aspect because it has allowed us to gain a deep understanding of the problem and the solution, and it has contributed to the correctness and real-world applicability of the pattern as described. To further improve the quality of the paper, we have followed the commonly accepted practices in pattern development (including peer reviews) to ensure that the core aspects of the solution are correctly represented and that the description allows it to be applicable to similar problems in other domains, such as healthcare, autonomous devices, banking, food tracing or manufacturing to name a few. The work done in applying this pattern confirms that it solves a recurring problem for IoT systems, but also that it can be adopted in other domains, providing an effective solution in order to achieve enhancement of the auditability capabilities of the target systems. This pattern will be part of a pattern language (i.e., a family of related patterns) that we are developing for transitioning from legacy systems to IoT with an emphasis on security. Ethnobotanical studies on foraging are essential for documenting neglected or previously unknown wild food plants, which may be crucial for promoting the diversification of food sources and contributing to food security and sovereignty. The Pashtuns of the Marwat tribe in NW Pakistan are renowned for their traditional customs and food systems. Studying the wild food plants (WFPs) and their associated bio-cultural diversity is quintessential for fostering food security and sovereignty in the region. The research presented here investigated the area's wild food plants traditionally gathered and consumed. The field survey was conducted in 2023 with 87 study participants. A total of 41 plant species belonging to 24 botanical families was documented. The findings include food uses for Atriplex tatarica, Amaranthus graecizans, and Beta vulgaris subsp. maritima that have rarely been recorded in Pakistan. Moreover, the use of Citrulus colocynthus fruits in jam and Zygophyllum indicum leaves and stems in beverages are novel contributions to the gastronomy of NW Pakistan. The comparison with other food ethnobotanical studies conducted in North Pakistan suggests some similarities between the Lakki Marwat traditional WFPs and those from other semi-arid areas in North Pakistan, both Pashtun and non-Pashtun. While the findings underline the significant role of WFPs in local cuisine, we observed that this local knowledge is also threatened: the rapid spread of fast and industrialized food, modernization, and cultural dilution has led to an alarming reduction in these practices among the younger generations. Therefore, suitable measures to safeguard traditional plants, food knowledge, practices, and the associated culture are urgently needed. The urgency of this situation cannot be overstated, and it is crucial that we act now. A growing body of biomedical literature suggests a bidirectional regulatory relationship between cardiac calcium (Ca2+)-regulating proteins and reactive oxygen species (ROS) that is integral to the pathogenesis of various cardiac disorders via oxidative stress (OS) signaling. To address the challenge of finding hidden connections within the growing volume of biomedical research, we developed a data science pipeline for efficient data extraction, transformation, and loading. Employing the CaseOLAP (Context-Aware Semantic Analytic Processing) algorithm, our pipeline quantifies interactions between 128 human cardiomyocyte Ca2+-regulating proteins and eight cardiovascular disease (CVD) categories. Our machine-learning analysis of CaseOLAP scores reveals that the molecular interfaces of Ca2+-regulating proteins uniquely associate with cardiac arrhythmias and diseases of the cardiac conduction system, distinguishing them from other CVDs. Additionally, a knowledge graph analysis identified 59 of the 128 Ca2+-regulating proteins as involved in OS-related cardiac diseases, with cardiomyopathy emerging as the predominant category. By leveraging a link prediction algorithm, our research illuminates the interactions between Ca2+-regulating proteins, OS, and CVDs. The insights gained from our study provide a deeper understanding of the molecular interplay between cardiac ROS and Ca2+-regulating proteins in the context of CVDs. Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is a multifarious syndrome, accounting for over half of heart failure (HF) patients receiving clinical treatment. The prevalence of HFpEF is rapidly increasing in the coming decades as the global population ages. It is becoming clearer that HFpEF has a lot of different causes, which makes it challenging to find effective treatments. Currently, there are no proven treatments for people with deteriorating HF or HFpEF. Although the pathophysiologic foundations of HFpEF are complex, excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and increased oxidative stress caused by mitochondrial dysfunction seem to play a critical role in the pathogenesis of HFpEF. Emerging evidence from animal models and human myocardial tissues from failed hearts shows that mitochondrial aberrations cause a marked increase in mitochondrial ROS (mtROS) production and oxidative stress. Furthermore, studies have reported that common HF medications like beta blockers, angiotensin receptor blockers, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists indirectly reduce the production of mtROS. Despite the harmful effects of ROS on cardiac remodeling, maintaining mitochondrial homeostasis and cardiac functions requires small amounts of ROS. In this review, we will provide an overview and discussion of the recent findings on mtROS production, its threshold for imbalance, and the subsequent dysfunction that leads to related cardiac and systemic phenotypes in the context of HFpEF. We will also focus on newly discovered cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying ROS dysregulation, current therapeutic options, and future perspectives for treating HFpEF by targeting mtROS and the associated signal molecules. Genetic transformation is a valuable tool for the development of plant varieties with desirable traits that are present in the species germplasm with low genetic variability, i.e., resistance to pests and diseases and nutritional improvements. Although transgenic and edited crops have been successfully obtained for many plant species, it remains difficult for common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris), due to their recalcitrance to in vitro regeneration. This review discusses various methods employed, such as Agrobacterium-mediated transformation, biolistic (particle bombardment), and hairy root systems, noting their respective efficiencies and limitations. While there has been progress, including the development of the first transgenic common bean cultivar approved for commercialization (Embrapa 5.1), the article emphasizes the need for improved protocols and techniques for more efficient genetic transformation. It also touches upon the potential of gene editing technologies like CRISPR/Cas9 in overcoming existing challenges and facilitating the development of resilient bean varieties. Background and Objectives: Recent years have been marked by a search for new relationships between malocclusions and the morphological features of the cranial base and upper cervical spine. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between skeletal orthodontic malocclusions and the morphological features of sella turcica bridging (STB) and ponticulus posticus (PP). Materials and Methods: The study sample consisted of 300 randomly selected pre-orthodontic treatment patients aged 7–40 years. Cephalometric analysis was performed twice by two researchers. The patients were divided into three groups according to the type of skeletal malocclusion. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 29.0 software. Results: The prevalence of incomplete PP was 40%, and the prevalence of complete PP was 11.33% and was significantly more common in males (56.7%). STB had a prevalence of 52.67% (15.67% complete, 37.0% partial), with a significantly higher prevalence in females (60.1%, p < 0.001). PP and STB were more common in Class II patients, followed by Class I and Class III. However, only PP showed a statistically significant difference (p = 0.042). According to logistic regression, men were twice as likely to have an open groove of PP (p = 0.015), while females had higher odds of partial and complete STB (p < 0.05). Class II malocclusion increases the odds of type 2 and type 4 PP as well as partial STB. However, it was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Conclusions: The morphological features of sella turcica bridging and ponticulus posticus were related to sex and the orthodontic skeletal pattern. Ponticulus posticus was more prevalent in males, while sella turcica bridging was more prevalent in females; both conditions were more common in patients with a Class II skeletal pattern. Hydrogels play a crucial role due to their high-water content and 3D structure, which make them ideal for various applications in biomedicine, sensing, and beyond. They can be prepared from a variety of biomaterials, polymers, and their combinations, allowing for versatility in properties and applications. Hydrogels include natural types derived from collagen, gelatin, alginate, and hyaluronic acid, as well as synthetic types based on polyethylene glycol (PEG), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), and polyacrylamide (PAAm). Each type possesses distinct properties, such as mechanical strength, biodegradability, and biocompatibility, which can be tailored for applications such as wound healing, contact lenses, 3D bioprinting, and tissue engineering. The high-water content of hydrogels mimics natural tissue environments, promoting cell growth and allowing nutrient and waste exchange, which supports the development of functional tissues. They serve as scaffolds in tissue engineering applications, including wound healing, cartilage and bone regeneration, vascular tissue engineering, and organ-on-a-chip systems. Additionally, hydrogels can encapsulate and deliver therapeutic agents, such as growth factors or drugs, to specific target sites in the body. Hydrogels can be prepared through three primary methods: physical crosslinking, which relies on non-covalent interactions such as physical entanglements or hydrogen bonding; chemical crosslinking, which forms covalent bonds between polymer chains to create a stable structure; and irradiation-based crosslinking, where UV irradiation induces rapid hydrogel formation. The choice of crosslinking method depends on the desired properties and applications of the hydrogel. By providing a biomimetic environment, hydrogels facilitate cell growth and differentiation, support tissue formation, and aid in the regeneration of damaged or diseased tissues while delivering therapeutic agents. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are bioactive macromolecules that exhibit antibacterial, antiviral, and immunomodulatory functions. They come from a wide range of sources and are found in all forms of life, from bacteria to plants, vertebrates, and invertebrates, and play an important role in controlling the spread of pathogens, promoting wound healing and treating tumors. Consequently, AMPs have emerged as promising alternatives to next-generation antibiotics. With advancements in systems biology and synthetic biology technologies, it has become possible to synthesize AMPs artificially. We can better understand their functional activities for further modification and development by investigating the mechanism of action underlying their antimicrobial properties. This review focuses on the structural aspects of AMPs while highlighting their significance for biological activity. Furthermore, it elucidates the membrane targeting mechanism and intracellular targets of these peptides while summarizing molecular modification approaches aimed at enhancing their antibacterial efficacy. In Portugal, grapevine leaves are generally treated as agro-industrial waste, despite being rich in bioactive compounds that offer benefits to human health. This study compiles the most relevant and current data on the phytochemical composition and bioactive properties of grape leaves from both red and white varieties cultivated in the country. These by-products are abundant in flavonoid and non-flavonoid phenolic compounds, such as flavonols, derivatives of hydroxycinnamic acids, carotenoid pigments, and chlorophylls, as well as fatty acids, which have scientifically proven antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, cardio-, neuro- and hepatoprotective properties, among others. The combination of these beneficial properties, along with the low toxicity of their compounds, makes grapevine leaves a by-product with great potential for use in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. Abnormal crowd behavior recognition is one of the research hotspots in computer vision. Its goal is to use computer vision technology and abnormal behavior detection models to accurately perceive, predict, and intervene in potential abnormal behaviors of the crowd and monitor the status of the crowd system in public places in real time, to effectively prevent and deal with public security risks and ensure public life safety and social order. To this end, focusing on the abnormal crowd behavior recognition technology in the computer vision system, a systematic review study of its theory and cutting-edge technology is conducted. First, the crowd level and abnormal behaviors in public places are defined, and the challenges faced by abnormal crowd behavior recognition are expounded. Then, from the dimensions based on traditional methods and based on deep learning, the mainstream technologies of abnormal behavior recognition are discussed, and the design ideas, advantages, and limitations of various methods are analyzed. Next, the mainstream software tools are introduced to provide a comprehensive reference for the technical framework. Secondly, typical abnormal behavior datasets at home and abroad are sorted out, and the characteristics of these datasets are compared in detail from multiple perspectives such as scale, characteristics, and uses, and the performance indicators of different algorithms on the datasets are compared and analyzed. Aspiration pneumonia exacerbates swallowing and respiratory muscle atrophy. It induces respiratory muscle atrophy through three steps: proinflammatory cytokine production, caspase-3 and calpain, and then ubiquitin–proteasome activations. In addition, autophagy induces swallowing muscle atrophy. Nrf2 is the central detoxifying and antioxidant gene whose function in aspiration pneumonia is unclear. We explored the role of Nrf2 in aspiration pneumonia by examining swallowing and respiratory muscle mass and function using wild-type and Nrf2-knockout mice. Pepsin and lipopolysaccharide aspiration challenges caused aspiration pneumonia. The swallowing (digastric muscles) and respiratory (diaphragm) muscles were isolated. Quantitative RT-PCR and Western blotting were used to assess their proteolysis cascade. Pathological and videofluoroscopic examinations evaluated atrophy and swallowing function, respectively. Nrf2-knockouts showed exacerbated aspiration pneumonia compared with wild-types. Nrf2-knockouts exhibited more persistent and intense proinflammatory cytokine elevation than wild-types. In both mice, the challenge activated calpains and caspase-3 in the diaphragm but not in the digastric muscles. The digastric muscles showed extended autophagy activation in Nrf2-knockouts compared to wild-types. The diaphragms exhibited autophagy activation only in Nrf2-knockouts. Nrf2-knockouts showed worsened muscle atrophies and swallowing function compared with wild-types. Thus, activation of Nrf2 may alleviate inflammation, muscle atrophy, and function in aspiration pneumonia, a major health problem for the aging population, and may become a therapeutic target.
