The research groups in computer vision, graphics, and machine learning have dedicated a substantial amount of attention to the areas of 3D object reconstruction, augmentation, and registration. Deep learning is the predominant method used in artificial intelligence for addressing computer vision challenges. However, deep learning on three-dimensional data presents distinct obstacles and is now in its nascent phase. There have been significant advancements in deep learning specifically for three-dimensional data, offering a range of ways to address these issues. This study offers a comprehensive examination of the latest advancements in deep learning methodologies. We examine many benchmark models for the tasks of 3D object registration, augmentation, and reconstruction. We thoroughly analyse their architectures, advantages, and constraints. In summary, this report provides a comprehensive overview of recent advancements in three-dimensional deep learning and highlights unresolved research areas that will need to be addressed in the future. This paper provides a bibliometric analysis of current research trends in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), focusing on key topics such as deep learning, machine learning, and security in AI. Through the lens of bibliometric analysis, we explore publications published from 2020 to 2024, using primary data from the Clarivate Analytics Web of Science Core Collection. The analysis includes the distribution of studies by year, the number of studies and citation rankings in journals, and the identification of leading countries, institutions, and authors in the field of AI research. Additionally, we investigate the distribution of studies by Web of Science categories, authors, affiliations, publication years, countries/regions, publishers, research areas, and citations per year. Key findings indicate a continued growth of interest in topics such as deep learning, machine learning, and security in AI over the past few years. We also identify leading countries and institutions active in researching this area. Awareness of data security is essential for the responsible application of AI technologies. Robust security frameworks are important to mitigate risks associated with AI integration into critical infrastructure such as healthcare and finance. Ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of data managed by AI systems is not only a technical challenge but also a societal necessity, demanding interdisciplinary collaboration and policy development. This analysis provides a deeper understanding of the current state of research in the field of AI and identifies key areas for further research and innovation. Brain stroke, or a cerebrovascular accident, is a devastating medical condition that disrupts the blood supply to the brain, depriving it of oxygen and nutrients. Each year, according to the World Health Organization, 15 million people worldwide experience a stroke. This results in approximately 5 million deaths and another 5 million individuals suffering permanent disabilities. The complex interplay of various risk factors highlights the urgent need for sophisticated analytical methods to more accurately predict stroke risks and manage their outcomes. Machine learning and deep learning technologies offer promising solutions by analyzing extensive datasets including patient demographics, health records, and lifestyle choices to uncover patterns and predictors not easily discernible by humans. These technologies enable advanced data processing, analysis, and fusion techniques for a comprehensive health assessment. We conducted a comprehensive review of 25 review papers published between 2020 and 2024 on machine learning and deep learning applications in brain stroke diagnosis, focusing on classification, segmentation, and object detection. Furthermore, all these reviews explore the performance evaluation and validation of advanced sensor systems in these areas, enhancing predictive health monitoring and personalized care recommendations. Moreover, we also provide a collection of the most relevant datasets used in brain stroke analysis. The selection of the papers was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines. Furthermore, this review critically examines each domain, identifies current challenges, and proposes future research directions, emphasizing the potential of AI methods in transforming health monitoring and patient care. The paper "Using Absorption Models for Insulin and Carbohydrates and Deep Leaning to Improve Glucose Level Predictions" (Sensors 2021, 21, 5273) proposes a novel approach to predicting blood glucose levels for people with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). By building exponential models from raw carbohydrate and insulin data to simulate the absorption in the body, the authors reported a reduction in their model's root-mean-square error (RMSE) from 15.5 mg/dL (raw) to 9.2 mg/dL (exponential) when predicting blood glucose levels one hour into the future. In this comment, we demonstrate that the experimental techniques used in that paper are flawed, which invalidates its results and conclusions. Specifically, after reviewing the authors' code, we found that the model validation scheme was malformed, namely, the training and test data from the same time intervals were mixed. This means that the reported RMSE numbers in the referenced paper did not accurately measure the predictive capabilities of the approaches that were presented. We repaired the measurement technique by appropriately isolating the training and test data, and we discovered that their models actually performed dramatically worse than was reported in the paper. In fact, the models presented in the that paper do not appear to perform any better than a naive model that predicts future glucose levels to be the same as the current ones. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the rapid growth in urban construction in Malaysia, road breakage has challenged traditional manual inspection methods. In order to quickly and accurately detect the extent of road breakage, it is crucial to apply automated road crack detection techniques. Researchers have long studied image-based road crack detection techniques, especially the deep learning methods that have emerged in recent years, leading to breakthrough developments in the field. However, many issues remain in road crack detection methods using deep learning techniques. The field lacks state-of-the-art systematic reviews that can scientifically and effectively analyze existing works, document research trends, summarize outstanding research results, and identify remaining shortcomings. To conduct a systematic review of the relevant literature, a bibliometric analysis and a critical analysis of the papers published in the field were performed. VOSviewer and CiteSpace text mining tools were used to analyze and visualize the bibliometric analysis of some parameters derived from the articles. Due to budget and sensor technology constraints, a single sensor cannot simultaneously provide observational images with both a high spatial and temporal resolution. To solve the above problem, the spatiotemporal fusion (STF) method was proposed and proved to be an indispensable tool for monitoring land surface dynamics. There are relatively few systematic reviews of the STF method. Bibliometrics is a valuable method for analyzing the scientific literature, but it has not yet been applied to the comprehensive analysis of the STF method. Therefore, in this paper, we use bibliometrics and scientific mapping to analyze the 2967 citation data from the Web of Science from 1991 to 2023 in a metrological manner, covering the themes of STF, data fusion, multi-temporal analysis, and spatial analysis. The results of the literature analysis reveal that the number of articles displays a slow to rapid increase during the study period, but decreases significantly in 2023. Research institutions in China (1059 papers) and the United States (432 papers) are the top two contributors in the field. The keywords "Sentinel", "deep learning" (DL), and "LSTM" (Long Short-Term Memory) appeared most frequently in the past three years. In the future, remote sensing spatiotemporal fusion research can address more of the limitations of heterogeneous landscapes and climatic conditions to improve fused images' accuracy. Academic researchers publish their work in various formats, such as papers, patents, and research reports, on different academic sites. When searching for a particular researcher's work, it can be challenging to pinpoint the right individual, especially when there are multiple researchers with the same name. In order to handle this issue, we propose a name disambiguation scheme for researchers with the same name based on heterogeneous academic sites. The proposed scheme collects and integrates research results from these varied academic sites, focusing on attributes crucial for disambiguation. It then employs clustering techniques to identify individuals who share the same name. Additionally, we implement the proposed rule-based algorithm name disambiguation method and the existing deep learning-based identification method. This approach allows for the selection of the most accurate disambiguation scheme, taking into account the metadata available in the academic sites, using a multi-classifier approach. We consider various researchers' achievements and metadata of articles registered in various academic search sites. The proposed scheme showed an exceptionally high F1-measure value of 0.99. In this paper, we propose a multi-classifier that executes the most appropriate disambiguation scheme depending on the inputted metadata. Because of the difficulty in fault detection for and diagnosing the adjustment hydraulic servomotor, this paper uses feature extraction technology to extract the time domain and frequency domain features of the pressure signal of the adjustment hydraulic servomotor and splice the features of multiple pressure signals through the Multi-source Information Fusion (MSIF) method. The comprehensive expression of device status information is obtained. After that, this paper proposes a fault detection Algorithm GA-SVDD-neg, which uses Genetic Algorithm (GA) to optimize Support Vector Data Description with negative examples (SVDD-neg). Through joint optimization with the Mutual Information (MI) feature selection algorithm, the features that are most sensitive to the state deterioration of the adjustment hydraulic servomotor are selected. Experiments show that the MI algorithm has a better performance than other feature dimensionality reduction algorithms in the field of the abnormal detection of adjustment hydraulic servomotors, and the GA-SVDD-neg algorithm has a stronger robustness and generality than other anomaly detection algorithms. In addition, to make full use of the advantages of deep learning in automatic feature extraction and classification, this paper realizes the fault diagnosis of the adjustment hydraulic servomotor based on 1D Convolutional Neural Network (1DCNN). The experimental results show that this algorithm has the same superior performance as the traditional algorithm in feature extraction and can accurately diagnose the known faults of the adjustment hydraulic servomotor. This research is of great significance for the intelligent transformation of adjustment hydraulic servomotors and can also provide a reference for the fault warning and diagnosis of the Electro-Hydraulic (EH) system of the same type of steam turbine. The fire heat release rate (HRR) is a crucial parameter for describing the combustion process and its thermal effects. In recent years, some studies have employed fire scene images and deep learning algorithms to predict real-time fire HRR, which has led to the advancement of HRR prediction in terms of both lightweightness and real-time monitoring. Nevertheless, the development of an early-stage monitoring system for fires and the ability to predict future HRR based on current moment data represents a crucial foundation for evaluating the scale of indoor fires and enhancing the capacity to prevent and control such incidents. This paper proposes a deep learning model based on continuous fire scene images (containing both flame and smoke features) and their time-series information to predict the future transient fire HRR. The model (Att-BiLSTM) comprises three bi-directional long- and short-term memory (Bi-LSTM) layers and one attention layer. The model employs a bidirectional feature extraction approach, followed by the introduction of an attention mechanism to highlight the image features that have a critical impact on the prediction results. In this paper, a large-scale dataset is constructed by collecting 27,231 fire scene images with instantaneous HRR annotations from 40 different fire trials from the NIST database. The experimental results demonstrate that Att-BiLSTM is capable of effectively utilizing fire scene image features and temporal information to accurately predict future transient HRR, including those in high-brightness fire environments and complex fire source situations. Target detection algorithms can greatly improve the efficiency of tomato leaf disease detection and play an important technical role in intelligent tomato cultivation. However, there are some challenges in the detection process, such as the diversity of complex backgrounds and the loss of leaf symmetry due to leaf shadowing, and existing disease detection methods have some disadvantages in terms of deteriorating generalization ability and insufficient accuracy. Aiming at the above issues, a target detection model for tomato leaf disease based on deep learning with a global attention mechanism, TDGA, is proposed in this paper. The main idea of TDGA includes three aspects. Firstly, TDGA adds a global attention mechanism (GAM) after up-sampling and down-sampling, as well as in the SPPF module, to improve the feature extraction ability of the target object, effectively reducing the interference of invalid targets. Secondly, TDGA uses a switchable atrous convolution (SAConv) in the C3 module to improve the model's ability to detect. Thirdly, TDGA adopts the efficient IoU loss (EIoU) instead of complete IoU loss (CIoU) to solve the ambiguous definition of aspect ratio and sample imbalance. In addition, the influences of different environmental factors such as single leaf, multiple leaves, and shadows on the performance of tomato disease detection are extensively experimented with and analyzed in this paper, which also verified the robustness of TDGA. The experimental results show that the average accuracy of TDGA reaches 91.40%, which is 2.93% higher than that of the original YOLOv5 network, which is higher than YOLOv5, YOLOv7, YOLOHC, YOLOv8, SSD, Faster R-CNN, RetinaNet and other target detection networks, so that TDGA can be utilized for the detection of tomato leaf disease more efficiently and accurately, even in complex environments. Most of the deep-learning algorithms on stock price volatility prediction in the existing literature use data such as same-frequency market indicators or technical indicators, and less consider mixed-frequency data, such as macro-data. Compared with the traditional model that only inputs the same-frequency data such as technical indicators and market indicators, this study proposes an improved deep-learning model based on mixed-frequency big data. This paper first introduces the reserve restricted mixed-frequency data sampling (RR-MIDAS) model to deal with the mixed-frequency data and, secondly, extracts the temporal and spatial features of volatility series by using the parallel model of CNN-LSTM and LSTM, and finally utilizes the Optuna framework for hyper-parameter optimization to achieve volatility prediction. For the deep-learning model with mixed-frequency data, its RMSE, MAE, MSLE, MAPE, SMAPE, and QLIKE are reduced by 18.25%, 14.91%, 30.00%, 12.85%, 13.74%, and 23.42%, respectively. The growing adoption of electric propulsion systems in Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASSs) necessitates advancements in shipboard electronics for safe, efficient, and reliable operation. These advancements are crucial for tasks such as real-time sensor data processing, control algorithms for autonomous navigation, and robust decision-making capabilities. This study investigates research trends in MASSs, using bibliographic analysis to identify policy and future research directions in this evolving field. We analyze 3363 MASS-related articles from the Web of Science database, employing co-occurrence word analysis and latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) topic modeling. The findings reveal a rapidly growing field dominated by image recognition research. Keywords such as "datum", "image", and "detection" suggest a focus on collecting and analyzing marine data, particularly with deep learning for synthetic aperture radar imagery. LDA confirms this, with "image analysis and classification research" as the leading topic. The study also identifies national and organizational leaders in MASS research. However, research on Arctic routes lags behind that on other areas. This work provides valuable insights for policymakers and researchers, promoting a deeper understanding of MASSs and informing future policy and research agendas regarding the integration of electric propulsion systems within the maritime industry. In high-voltage transmission lines, the tension tower needs to withstand the tension load of the overhead power line for a long time, which is prone to damage, and it is an important part of the inspection in the circuit inspection. In the modern circuit inspection process, operation and maintenance personnel mostly use unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to photograph various parts of the tension tower, obtain inspection images, and manually classify and name the massive inspection images, which is low in accuracy and efficiency. Based on the above problems, this paper collects a large number of real-life UAV inspection images of various parts of a tension tower, and proposes the Stower-13 inspection image dataset, which is used to train the classification model to achieve automatic classification and naming of inspection images. Based on this dataset, this paper also proposes an improved MobileViT model, in which the Scale-Correlated Pyramid Convolution Block Attention Block (SCPCbam) module is introduced, which adds the Convolution Block Attention Module (CBAM) to the four branches of the original Scale-Correlated Pyramid Convolution (SCPC) module, so as to strengthen the ability of image multi-scale information extraction and improve the classification accuracy. This paper discusses a number of experiments on the model, and the experimental results show that the dataset proposed in this paper helps the model to understand the feature information. At the same time, the improved MobileViT model has a strong ability to extract image spatial feature information, the classification accuracy is higher than that of other models of the same type, so it is able to cope with a wide range of problems that arise in the course of practice, and it meets the practical needs of automatically naming transmission line inspection images. The visual signal object detection technology of deep learning, as a high-precision perception technology, can be adopted in various image analysis applications, and it has important application prospects in the utilization and protection of marine biological resources. While the marine environment is generally far from cities where the rich computing power in cities cannot be utilized, deploying models on mobile edge devices is an efficient solution. However, because of computing resource limitations on edge devices, the workload of performing deep learning-based computationally intensive object detection on mobile edge devices is often insufficient in meeting high-precision and low-latency requirements. To address the problem of insufficient computing resources, this paper proposes a lightweight process based on a neural structure search and knowledge distillation using deep learning YOLOv8 as the baseline model. Firstly, the neural structure search algorithm was used to compress the YOLOv8 model and reduce its computational complexity. Secondly, a new knowledge distillation architecture was designed, which distills the detection head output layer and NECK feature layer to compensate for the accuracy loss caused by model reduction. When compared to YOLOv8n, the computational complexity of the lightweight model optimized in this study (in terms of floating point operations (FLOPs)) was 7.4 Gflops, which indicated a reduction of 1.3 Gflops. The multiply–accumulate operations (MACs) stood at 2.72 G, thereby illustrating a decrease of 32%; this saw an increase in the AP50, AP75, and mAP by 2.0%, 3.0%, and 1.9%, respectively. The concept of sustainable water use serves as an indicator of environmental, economic, and social pressure on freshwater resources globally; however, the social element of sustainability is not well researched within water-consumption studies. The objective of this paper is to consider the current state of the literature on social sustainability indicators for water use in agriculture, as well as to describe the social (people) element of sustainability and establish water use as an element of society. By combining viewpoints, systematic literature reviews address research topics with a strength that no single work can have. From 314 papers published between 2013 and 2023, 42 papers were eligible for the review. This work employed a mixed-methods approach that included a systematic review following the (PRISMA) framework, scientific mapping through VOSviewer software (version 1.6.19), thematic reviews, and a review of the grey literature retrieved from artificial intelligence and deep learning technologies. The findings indicate that social sustainability indicators are based on environmental indicators. There are no set standards for what to consider as a social indicator of water use or for how these indictors can be measured. Life-cycle assessment and water-footprint assessment frameworks have shown progress with indicators that capture the social value of water such as productivity-reducing externalities, equity, and jobs per cubic metre of water. On a global scale, food safety and security aspects entail consideration throughout the farm-to-fork continuum, considering food's supply chain. Generally, the agrifood system is a multiplex network of interconnected features and processes, with a hard predictive rate, where maintaining the food's safety is an indispensable element and is part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It has led the scientific community to develop advanced applied analytical methods, such as machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques applied for assessing foodborne diseases. The main objective of this paper is to contribute to the development of the consensus version of ongoing research about the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in the domain of food-crop safety from an analytical point of view. Writing a comprehensive review for a more specific topic can also be challenging, especially when searching within the literature. To our knowledge, this review is the first to address this issue. This work consisted of conducting a unique and exhaustive study of the literature, using our TriScope Keywords-based Synthesis methodology. All available literature related to our topic was investigated according to our criteria of inclusion and exclusion. The final count of data papers was subject to deep reading and analysis to extract the necessary information to answer our research questions. Although many studies have been conducted, limited attention has been paid to outlining the applications of AI tools combined with analytical strategies for crop-based food safety specifically. This paper addresses the challenges in forecasting electrical energy in the current era of renewable energy integration. It reviews advanced adaptive forecasting methodologies while also analyzing the evolution of research in this field through bibliometric analysis. The review highlights the key contributions and limitations of current models with an emphasis on the challenges of traditional methods. The analysis reveals that Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks, optimization techniques, and deep learning have the potential to model the dynamic nature of energy consumption, but they also have higher computational demands and data requirements. This paper aims to structure and semantically describe the information within the industrial chain by constructing an Industry Chain Knowledge Graph (ICKG), enabling more efficient and intelligent information management and analysis. In more detail, this paper constructs a multi-domain industrial chain dataset and proposes a method that combines the top-down establishment of a semantic expression framework with the bottom-up establishment of a data layer to build an ICKG. In the data layer, a deep learning algorithm based on BERT-BiLSTM-CRF is used to extract industry chain entities from relevant literature and reports. The results indicate that the model can effectively identify industry chain entities. These entities and relationships populate a Neo4j graph database, creating a large-scale ICKG for visual display and aiding cross-domain applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recommender systems are a key technology for many applications, such as e-commerce, streaming media, and social media. Traditional recommender systems rely on collaborative filtering or content-based filtering to make recommendations. However, these approaches have limitations, such as the cold start and the data sparsity problem. This survey paper presents an in-depth analysis of the paradigm shift from conventional recommender systems to generative pre-trained-transformers-(GPT)-based chatbots. We highlight recent developments that leverage the power of GPT to create interactive and personalized conversational agents. By exploring natural language processing (NLP) and deep learning techniques, we investigate how GPT models can better understand user preferences and provide context-aware recommendations. The paper further evaluates the advantages and limitations of GPT-based recommender systems, comparing their performance with traditional methods. Since plant diseases occurring during the growth process are a significant factor leading to the decline in both yield and quality, the classification and detection of plant leaf diseases, followed by timely prevention and control measures, are crucial for safeguarding plant productivity and quality. As the traditional convolutional neural network structure cannot effectively recognize similar plant leaf diseases, in order to more accurately identify the diseases on plant leaves, this paper proposes an effective plant disease image recognition method aECA-ResNet34. This method is based on ResNet34, and in the first and the last layers of this network, respectively, we add this paper's improved aECAnet with the symmetric structure. aECA-ResNet34 is compared with different plant disease classification models on the peanut dataset constructed in this paper and the open-source PlantVillage dataset. The experimental results show that the aECA-ResNet34 model proposed in this paper has higher accuracy, better performance, and better robustness. Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) is a widely used technology for pipeline detection due to its fast detection speed and high resolution. However, the presence of complex underground media often results in strong ground clutter interference in the collected B-scan echoes, significantly impacting detection performance. To address this issue, this paper proposes an improved clutter suppression network based on a cycle-consistency generative adversarial network (CycleGAN). By employing the concept of style transfer, the network aims to convert clutter images into clutter-free images. This paper introduces multiple residual blocks into the generator and discriminator, respectively, to improve the feature expression ability of the deep learning model. Additionally, the discriminator incorporates the squeeze and excitation (SE) module, a channel attention mechanism, to further enhance the model's ability to extract features from clutter-free images. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed network in clutter suppression, both simulation and measurement data are utilized to compare and analyze its performance against traditional clutter suppression methods and deep learning-based methods, respectively. Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) has become increasingly important in safeguarding organizations against cyber threats. However, managing, storing, analyzing, and sharing vast and sensitive threat intelligence data is a challenge. Blockchain technology, with its robust and tamper-resistant properties, offers a promising solution to address these challenges. This systematic literature review explores the recent advancements and emerging trends at the intersection of CTI and blockchain technology. We reviewed research papers published during the last 5 years to investigate the various proposals, methodologies, models, and implementations related to the distributed ledger technology and how this technology can be used to collect, store, analyze, and share CTI in a secured and controlled manner, as well as how this combination can further support additional dimensions such as quality assurance, reputation, and trust. Our findings highlight the focus of the CTI and blockchain convergence on the dissemination phase in the CTI lifecycle, reflecting a substantial emphasis on optimizing the efficacy of communication and sharing mechanisms, based on an equitable emphasis on both permissioned, private blockchains and permissionless, public blockchains, addressing the diverse requirements and preferences within the CTI community. The analysis reveals a focus towards the tactical and technical dimensions of CTI, compared to the operational and strategic CTI levels, indicating an emphasis on more technical-oriented utilization within the domain of blockchain technology. The technological landscape supporting CTI and blockchain integration emerges as multifaceted, featuring pivotal roles played by smart contracts, machine learning, federated learning, consensus algorithms, IPFS, deep learning, and encryption. The cacao pod borer (CPB) (Conopomorpha cramerella) is an invasive insect that causes significant economic loss for cacao farmers. One of the most efficient ways to reduce CPB damage is to continuously monitor its presence. Currently, most automated technologies for continuous insect pest monitoring rely on an internet connection and a power source. However, most cacao plantations are remotely located and have limited access to internet and power sources; therefore, a simpler and readily available tool is necessary to enable continuous monitoring. This research proposes a mobile application developed for rapid and on-site counting of CPBs on sticky paper traps. A CPB counting algorithm was developed and optimized to enable on-device computations despite memory constraints and limited capacity of low-end mobile phones. The proposed algorithm has an F1-score of 0.88, with no significant difference from expert counts (R2 = 0.97, p-value = 0.55, α = 0.05). The mobile application can be used to provide the required information for pest control methods on-demand and is also accessible for low-income farms. Pedigree charts remain essential in oncological genetic counseling for identifying individuals with an increased risk of developing hereditary tumors. However, this valuable data source often remains confined to paper files, going unused. We propose a computer-aided detection/diagnosis system, based on machine learning and deep learning techniques, capable of the following: (1) assisting genetic oncologists in digitizing paper-based pedigree charts, and in generating new digital ones, and (2) automatically predicting the genetic predisposition risk directly from these digital pedigree charts. To the best of our knowledge, there are no similar studies in the current literature, and consequently, no utilization of software based on artificial intelligence on pedigree charts has been made public yet. High-quality agricultural multi-view stereo reconstruction technology is the key to precision and informatization in agriculture. Multi-view stereo reconstruction methods are an important part of 3D vision technology. In the multi-view stereo 3D reconstruction method based on deep learning, the effect of feature extraction directly affects the accuracy of reconstruction. Aiming at the actual problems in orchard fruit tree reconstruction, this paper designs an improved multi-view stereo structure based on the combination of remote sensing and artificial intelligence to realize the accurate reconstruction of jujube tree trunks. Firstly, an automatic key frame extraction method is proposed for the DSST target tracking algorithm to quickly recognize and extract high-quality data. Secondly, a composite U-Net feature extraction network is designed to enhance the reconstruction accuracy, while the DRE-Net feature extraction enhancement network improved by the parallel self-attention mechanism enhances the reconstruction completeness. Comparison tests show different levels of improvement on the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) dataset compared to other deep learning-based methods. In the context of academic expert finding, this paper investigates and compares the performance of information retrieval (IR) and machine learning (ML) methods, including deep learning, to approach the problem of identifying academic figures who are experts in different domains when a potential user requests their expertise. IR-based methods construct multifaceted textual profiles for each expert by clustering information from their scientific publications. Several methods fully tailored for this problem are presented in this paper. In contrast, ML-based methods treat expert finding as a classification task, training automatic text classifiers using publications authored by experts. By comparing these approaches, we contribute to a deeper understanding of academic-expert-finding techniques and their applicability in knowledge discovery. These methods are tested with two large datasets from the biomedical field: PMSC-UGR and CORD-19. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based object detection methods are widely used in traffic detection due to their high flexibility and extensive coverage. In recent years, with the increasing complexity of the urban road environment, UAV object detection algorithms based on deep learning have gradually become a research hotspot. The occurrence of maize diseases is frequent but challenging to manage. Traditional identification methods have low accuracy and complex model structures with numerous parameters, making them difficult to implement on mobile devices. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a corn leaf disease recognition model SNMPF based on convolutional neural network ShuffleNetV2. In the down-sampling module of the ShuffleNet model, the max pooling layer replaces the deep convolutional layer to perform down-sampling. This improvement helps to extract key features from images, reduce the overfitting of the model, and improve the model's generalization ability. In addition, to enhance the model's ability to express features in complex backgrounds, the Sim AM attention mechanism was introduced. This mechanism enables the model to adaptively adjust focus and pay more attention to local discriminative features. The results on a maize disease image dataset demonstrate that the SNMPF model achieves a recognition accuracy of 98.40%, representing a 4.1 percentage point improvement over the original model, while its size is only 1.56 MB. Compared with existing convolutional neural network models such as EfficientNet, MobileViT, EfficientNetV2, RegNet, and DenseNet, this model offers higher accuracy and a more compact size. As a result, it can automatically detect and classify maize leaf diseases under natural field conditions, boasting high-precision recognition capabilities. This paper aims to use deep learning algorithms to identify and study the stability of breakwater armor blocks. It introduces a posture identification model for fender blocks using a Mask Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (R-CNN), which has been enhanced by considering factors affecting breakwater fender blocks. Furthermore, a wave prediction model for breakwaters is developed by integrating Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERTs) with Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM). The performance of these models is evaluated. The results show that the accuracy of the Mask R-CNN and its comparison algorithms initially increases and then decreases with higher Intersection Over Union (IOU) thresholds, peaking at 95.16% accuracy at an IOU threshold of 0.5. The BERT-BiLSTM wave prediction model maintains a loss value around 0.01 and an accuracy of approximately 90.00%. These results suggest that the proposed models offer more accurate stability assessments of breakwater armor blocks. Fruit fly species classification is a fine-grained task as there is a small gap between species. In order to effectively identify and improve the recognition of fruit flies, a fine-grained image-recognition method based on a multi-channel self-attention mechanism was studied and a network framework for fine-grained image recognition based on deep learning was designed in this paper. In this framework, long-term and short-term memory networks are used to extract the underlying features in fruit fly fine-grained images. By inputting the underlying features in the multi-channel self-attention mechanism module, the global and local attention feature maps can be obtained.The weighted attention feature map can also be obtained by multiplying the weight of each channel and the attention feature map. The fine-grained image features of fruit flies were obtained by summing the weighted attention feature map. A softmax classifier was used to process the features and complete the recognition of the fruit fly fine-grained images. Two fine-grained image datasets of fruit flies were applied as experimental objects. Dataset 1 and Dataset 2 contain 11,778 images and 20,580 images from 46 different categories of fruit flies, respectively. The Kappa coefficient was used as the evaluation index to identify fruit fly images with different targets using the method proposed herein. The experimental results showed that, as the number of attention channels increased, the Kappa coefficient gradually increased, suggesting an improvement in the accuracy of fine-grained image recognition. The fine-grained image features extracted by introducing a multi-channel self-attention mechanism exhibited more distinct boundaries with a small amount of overlap, demonstrating strong feature extraction capabilities. When dealing with fine-grained images with either simple or complex backgrounds, the method proposed in this paper has good performance and generalization ability. Deep learning-based 3D target detection methods need to solve the problem of insufficient 3D target detection accuracy. In this paper, the KM3D network is selected as the benchmark network after the experimental comparison of current mainstream algorithms, and the IAE-KM3D network algorithm based on the KM3D network is proposed. First, the Resnet V2 network is introduced, and the residual module is redesigned to improve the training capability of the new residual module with higher generalization. IBN NET is then introduced to carefully integrate instance normalization and batch normalization as building blocks to improve the model's detection accuracy in hue- and brightness-changing scenarios without increasing time loss. Then, a parameter-free attention mechanism, Simam, is introduced to improve the detection accuracy of the model. After that, the elliptical Gaussian kernel is introduced to improve the algorithm's ability to detect 3D targets. Finally, a new key point loss function is proposed to improve the algorithm's ability to train. Experiments using the KITTI dataset conclude that the IAE-KM3D network model significantly improves detection accuracy and outperforms the KM3D algorithm regarding detection performance compared to the original KM3D network. The improvements for AP2D, AP3D, and APBEV are 5%, 12.5%, and 8.3%, respectively, and only a tiny amount of time loss and network parameters are added. Scene text detection is an important research field in computer vision, playing a crucial role in various application scenarios. However, existing scene text detection methods often fail to achieve satisfactory results when faced with text instances of different sizes, shapes, and complex backgrounds. To address the challenge of detecting diverse texts in natural scenes, this paper proposes a multi-scale natural scene text detection method based on attention feature extraction and cascaded feature fusion. This method combines global and local attention through an improved attention feature fusion module (DSAF) to capture text features of different scales, enhancing the network's perception of text regions and improving its feature extraction capabilities. Simultaneously, an improved cascaded feature fusion module (PFFM) is used to fully integrate the extracted feature maps, expanding the receptive field of features and enriching the expressive ability of the feature maps. Finally, to address the cascaded feature maps, a lightweight subspace attention module (SAM) is introduced to partition the concatenated feature maps into several sub-space feature maps, facilitating spatial information interaction among features of different scales. Due to the characteristics of different forms and small bird droppings-related defects in photovoltaic modules, problems of missing detection, wrong detection, and low detection accuracy often exist in the bird droppings covering the detection of photovoltaic modules. In this paper, a defect identification method based on the improved Coordinate Attention—You Only Look Once (CA-YOLOv5) network is proposed. Firstly, a layer of the Coordinate Attention module is added between the Backbone and Neck network, which takes into account channel and location information to enhance the feature extraction ability of the network model. Secondly, the small target detection layer is added to fuse different feature information from shallow networks and deep networks so as to improve the multi-scale feature detection ability of the network structure and effectively improve the detection effect of small targets. Finally, the experimental results show that, compared with the original algorithm, the proposed improved algorithm based on YOLOv5s has a mean average precision (mAP) value of 92%, an increase of 5.2%, and the model volume is also reduced in different degrees compared with other mainstream algorithms, achieving a good balance between detection accuracy and model volume. Currently, weed control robots that can accurately identify weeds and carry out removal work are gradually replacing traditional chemical weed control techniques. However, the computational and storage resources of the core processing equipment of weeding robots are limited. Aiming at the current problems of high computation and the high number of model parameters in weeding robots, this paper proposes a lightweight weed target detection model based on the improved YOLOv8 (You Only Look Once Version 8), called RVDR-YOLOv8 (Reversible Column Dilation-wise Residual). First, the backbone network is reconstructed based on RevCol (Reversible Column Networks). The unique reversible columnar structure of the new backbone network not only reduces the computational volume but also improves the model generalisation ability. Second, the C2fDWR module is designed using Dilation-wise Residual and integrated with the reconstructed backbone network, which improves the adaptive ability of the new backbone network RVDR and enhances the model's recognition accuracy for occluded targets. Again, GSConv is introduced at the neck end instead of traditional convolution to reduce the complexity of computation and network structure while ensuring the model recognition accuracy. Finally, InnerMPDIoU is designed by combining MPDIoU with InnerIoU to improve the prediction accuracy of the model. The experimental results show that the computational complexity of the new model is reduced by 35.8%, the number of parameters is reduced by 35.4% and the model size is reduced by 30.2%, while the mAP50 and mAP50-95 values are improved by 1.7% and 1.1%, respectively, compared to YOLOv8. The overall performance of the new model is improved compared to models such as Faster R-CNN, SSD and RetinaNet. The new model proposed in this paper can achieve the accurate identification of weeds in farmland under the condition of limited hardware resources, which provides theoretical and technical support for the effective control of weeds in farmland. Current low-light image enhancement techniques prioritize increasing image luminance but fail to address issues including loss of intricate distortion of colors and image details. In order to address these issues that has been overlooked by all parties, this paper suggests a multi-module optimization network for enhancing low-light images by integrating deep learning with Retinex theory. First, we create a decomposition network to separate the lighting components and reflections from the low-light image. We incorporated an enhanced global spatial attention (GSA) module into the decomposition network to boost its flexibility and adaptability. This module enhances the extraction of comprehensive information from the image and safeguards against information loss. To increase the illumination component's luminosity, we subsequently constructed an enhancement network. The Multiscale Guidance Block (MSGB) has been integrated into the improvement network, together with multilayer extended convolution to expand the sensing field and enhance the network's capability for feature extraction. In the process of fabric production, various types of defects affect the quality of a fabric. However, due to the wide variety of fabric defects, the complexity of fabric textures, and the concealment of small target defects, current fabric defect detection algorithms suffer from issues such as having a slow detection speed, low detection accuracy, and a low recognition rate of small target defects. Therefore, developing an efficient and accurate fabric defect detection system has become an urgent problem that needs to be addressed in the textile industry. Addressing the aforementioned issues, this paper proposes an improved YOLOv8n-LAW algorithm based on the YOLOv8n algorithm. First, LSKNet attention mechanisms are added to both ends of the C2f module in the backbone network to provide a broader context area, enhancing the algorithm's feature extraction capability. Next, the PAN-FPN structure of the backbone network is replaced by the AFPN structure, so that the different levels of features of the defects are closer to the semantic information in the progressive fusion. Finally, the CIoU loss is replaced with the WIoU v3 loss, allowing the model to dynamically adjust gradient gains based on the features of fabric defects, effectively focusing on distinguishing between defective and non-defective regions. The experimental results show that the improved YOLOv8n-LAW algorithm achieved an accuracy of 97.4% and a detection speed of 46 frames per second, while effectively increasing the recognition rate of small target defects. Sign language is an essential means of communication for individuals with hearing disabilities. However, there is a significant shortage of sign language interpreters in some languages, especially in Saudi Arabia. This shortage results in a large proportion of the hearing-impaired population being deprived of services, especially in public places. This paper aims to address this gap in accessibility by leveraging technology to develop systems capable of recognizing Arabic Sign Language (ArSL) using deep learning techniques. In this paper, we propose a hybrid model to capture the spatio-temporal aspects of sign language (i.e., letters and words). The hybrid model consists of a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) classifier to extract spatial features from sign language data and a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) classifier to extract spatial and temporal characteristics to handle sequential data (i.e., hand movements). To demonstrate the feasibility of our proposed hybrid model, we created a dataset of 20 different words, resulting in 4000 images for ArSL: 10 static gesture words and 500 videos for 10 dynamic gesture words. Our proposed hybrid model demonstrates promising performance, with the CNN and LSTM classifiers achieving accuracy rates of 94.40% and 82.70%, respectively. These results indicate that our approach can significantly enhance communication accessibility for the hearing-impaired community in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, an improved meter recognition model based on YOLOv7 is proposed in this paper. Partial convolution (PConv) is introduced into YOLOv7 to create a lighter network. Different PConv introduction locations on the base module have been used in order to find the optimal approach for reducing the parameters and floating point of operations (FLOPs). Meanwhile, the dynamic head (DyHead) module is utilized to enhance the attention mechanism for the YOLOv7 model. It can improve the detection accuracy of striped objects. As a result, this paper achieves mAP 50 v a l of 97.87% and mAP 50 : 90 v a l of 62.4% with only 5.37 M parameters. The improved model's inference speed can reach 108 frames per second (FPS). With the continuous development of automotive intelligence, vehicle occupant detection technology has received increasing attention. Despite various types of research in this field, a simple, reliable, and highly private detection method is lacking. This paper proposes a method for vehicle occupant detection using millimeter-wave radar. Specifically, the paper outlines the system design for vehicle occupant detection using millimeter-wave radar. By collecting the raw signals of FMCW radar and applying Range-FFT and DoA estimation algorithms, a range–azimuth heatmap was generated, visually depicting the current status of people inside the vehicle. Furthermore, utilizing the collected range–azimuth heatmap of passengers, this paper integrates the Faster R-CNN deep learning networks with radar signal processing to identify passenger information. Finally, to test the performance of the detection method proposed in this article, an experimental verification was conducted in a car and the results were compared with those of traditional machine learning algorithms. Fast and accurate counting and positioning of flowers is the foundation of automated flower cultivation production. However, it remains a challenge to complete the counting and positioning of high-density flowers against a complex background. Therefore, this paper proposes a lightweight flower counting and positioning model, Light-FC-YOLO, based on YOLOv8s. By integrating lightweight convolution, the model is more portable and deployable. At the same time, a new efficient detection head, Efficient head, and the integration of the LSKA large kernel attention mechanism are proposed to enhance the model's feature detail extraction capability and change the weight ratio of the shallow edge and key point information in the network. Finally, the SIoU loss function with target angle deviation calculation is introduced to improve the model's detection accuracy and target positioning ability. Experimental results show that Light-FC-YOLO, with a model size reduction of 27.2% and a parameter reduction of 39.0%, has a Mean Average Precision (mAP) and recall that are 0.8% and 1.4% higher than YOLOv8s, respectively. In the counting comparison experiment, the coefficient of determination (R2) and Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) of Light-FC-YOLO reached 0.9577 and 8.69, respectively, both superior to lightweight models such as YOLOv8s. The lightweight flower detection method proposed in this paper can efficiently complete flower positioning and counting tasks, providing technical support and reference solutions for automated flower production management. Traditional DeepLabV3+ image semantic segmentation methods face challenges in pitaya orchard environments characterized by multiple interference factors, complex image backgrounds, high computational complexity, and extensive memory consumption. This paper introduces an improved visual navigation path recognition method for pitaya orchards. Initially, DeepLabV3+ utilizes a lightweight MobileNetV2 as its primary feature extraction backbone, which is augmented with a Pyramid Split Attention (PSA) module placed after the Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (ASPP) module. This improvement enhances the spatial feature representation of feature maps, thereby sharpening the segmentation boundaries. Additionally, an Efficient Channel Attention Network (ECANet) mechanism is integrated with the lower-level features of MobileNetV2 to reduce computational complexity and refine the clarity of target boundaries. The paper also designs a navigation path extraction algorithm, which fits the road mask regions segmented by the model to achieve precise navigation path recognition. Experimental findings show that the enhanced DeepLabV3+ model achieved a Mean Intersection over Union (MIoU) and average pixel accuracy of 95.79% and 97.81%, respectively. These figures represent increases of 0.59 and 0.41 percentage points when contrasted with the original model. Furthermore, the model's memory consumption is reduced by 85.64%, 84.70%, and 85.06% when contrasted with the Pyramid Scene Parsing Network (PSPNet), U-Net, and Fully Convolutional Network (FCN) models, respectively. This reduction makes the proposed model more efficient while maintaining high segmentation accuracy, thus supporting enhanced operational efficiency in practical applications. The test results for navigation path recognition accuracy reveal that the angle error between the navigation centerline extracted using the least squares method and the manually fitted centerline is less than 5°. Additionally, the average deviation between the road centerlines extracted under three different lighting conditions and the actual road centerline is only 2.66 pixels, with an average image recognition time of 0.10 s.
