Pain is a subjective concept which is ever-present in the medical field. Health professionals are confronted with a variety of pain types and sources, as well as the challenge of managing a patient with acute or chronic suffering. An even bigger challenge is presented in the pediatric population, which often cannot quantify pain in a numerical scale like adults. Infants and small children especially show their discomfort through behavioral and physiological indicators, leaving the health provider with the task of rating the pain. Depending on the pathophysiology of it, pain can be classified as neuropathic or nociceptive, with the first being defined by an irregular signal processing in the nervous system and the second appearing in cases of direct tissue damage or prolonged contact with a certain stimulant. The approach is generally either pharmacological or non-pharmacological and it can vary from using NSAIDs, local anesthetics, opiates to physical and psychological routes. Unfortunately, some pathologies involve either intense or chronic pain that cannot be managed with traditional methods. Recent studies have involved nanoparticles with special characteristics such as small dimension and large surface area that can facilitate carrying treatments to tissues and even offer intrinsic analgesic properties. Pediatrics has benefited significantly from the application of nanotechnology, which has enabled the development of novel strategies for drug delivery, disease diagnosis, and tissue engineering. Background: Physical activity during early development is closely related to health. Differences in physical activity between young children with autism spectrum disorder and those with typical development are unclear. The purpose of this study was to compare the physical activity levels in children with autism spectrum disorder and typically developing children from the same area, including their sedentary physical activity, light physical activity, moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, and number of days in which the moderate-tovigorous physical activity guideline recommendation of 60 min per day was met. Methods: A total of 77 participants aged 3-6 years were included: 41 children with autism spectrum disorder (mean age = 61.41 ± 10.69 months) and 36 children with typical development (mean age = 60.36 ± 10.16 months). The physical activity of the children was measured using an ActiGraph GT3x accelerometer. Results: There were no significant differences in daily sedentary physical activity (439.70 ± 54.98 vs. 450.42 ± 53.67) or moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (46.62 ± 18.93 vs. 47.47 ± 18.26) between the two groups. The average daily moderate-to-vigorous physical activity of the two groups did not reach 60 min, and they had similar proportions of participants who reached 60 min a given number of times (24.4% vs. 25%). Daily light physical activity was significantly higher in the autism spectrum disorder group (263.96 ± 43.17 vs. 242.32 ± 37.91, p < 0.05). The moderate-to-vigorous physical activity of both groups was similar and lower than the recommended minimum physical activity. Conclusion: Targeted interventions should be considered in early intervention programs for children with autism spectrum disorder to increase their moderate-to-vigorous physical activity. Objective: To assess the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the Selective Control Assessment of the Lower Extremity (SCALE) in children with spastic cerebral palsy (CP). Methods: Forty-five children with spastic CP (mean age 7.29 years, SD 2.87 years, rang 4-16 years) were recruited. Internal consistency was measured using Cronbach's α, while test--retest and inter-rater reliability were evaluated using intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC). Construct validity was established through correlation and confirmatory factor analyses. Discriminative validity was assessed by comparing SCALE scores across varying GMFCS levels. Results: The Chinese version of SCALE demonstrates high internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.91) and good reliability with ICCs exceeding 0.76 for test--retest and inter-rater assessments. It shows significant correlations with GMFCS (r = -0.76, p < 0.001) and Fugl-Meyer scales (r = 0.79, p < 0.001), confirming its validity. Confirmatory factor analysis supports a well-fitting model (χ²/df = 1.58, RMSEA = 0.08, SRMR <0.001, GFI = 0.98, AGFI = 0.90, CFI = 0.99, TLI = 0.98), with the latent variable's AVE at 0.59 and CR at 0.88. Discriminative validity is evident in significant differences across GMFCS levels (p < 0.001), notably between levels I and II, I and III, and I and IV (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The Chinese version of SCALE shows good reliability and validity for assessing lower limb selective movement control in children with spastic cerebral palsy in China. Background: DS-5670 is a messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccine platform targeting the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the spike protein derived from severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). Booster vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) with monovalent DS-5670a (incorporating mRNA encoding the RBD from the original SARS-CoV-2 strain) or bivalent DS-5670a/b (original and omicron BA.4-5 RBD antigens) is effective and safe in adults. Data from a phase 2/3 active-controlled, noninferiority, pediatric study evaluating a third booster dose of DS-5670a/b are reported here. Methods: Children aged 5-11 years who had completed the two-dose primary vaccination series with monovalent BNT162b2 (original strain) at least 3 months prior to enrolment were randomly assigned to receive DS-5670a/b (20 µg of mRNA) or bivalent BNT1 62b2 (original/omicron BA.4-5; 10 µg of mRNA) on Day 1. The primary efficacy endpoint was blood neutralization geometric mean titer (GMT) against SARS-CoV-2 (omicron variant BA.5.2.1) and immune response rate (≥ 4-fold increase in post-vaccination circulating anti-SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing activity) on Day 29. Results: Among evaluable participants (DS-5670a/b, n = 74; bivalent BNT162b2, n = 75), the adjusted GMT ratio of DS-5670a/b to bivalent BNT162b2 on Day 29 was 1.636 (95% CI, 1.221, 2.190). Immune response rates were ≥ 89% with both study vaccines; adjusted difference 2.6% (95% CI, -7.8, 13.8). The prespecified non-inferiority margins were exceeded, and the study met the primary endpoint. DS-5670a/b also demonstrated broad neutralization activity across recent omicron sublineages and no cases of COVID-19 between Days 8-29 post-administration were reported. There were no novel safety concerns in the pediatric population at data cut-off. Conclusions: Bivalent DS-5670a/b was non-inferior to bivalent BNT162b2 in terms of immunogenicity, and had a manageable safety profile, when administered as a heterologous booster in children aged 5-11 years. Objectives: To summarize the clinical characteristics, outcomes and identify risk factors of Acinetobacter baumannii (AB) meningitis in children. Methods: This was a single-center, retrospective study. Children hospitalized between January 2016 and December 2021 who were diagnosed with AB meningitis were included. The clinical characteristics and outcomes were reviewed. Risk factors were determined using univariate analyses (chi-square and Mann-Whitney U tests). Results: Seventeen patients were included; 15 cases were secondary to neurosurgery, and two were neonates with primary bacterial meningitis. Common symptoms included fever, convulsions and nervous system abnormalities. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) tests typically showed increased white blood cell counts dominated by neutrophils, reduced glucose levels and elevated protein levels. Ten patients were successfully treated (successful treatment [ST] group); seven had failed treatment (failed treatment [FT] group). Univariate analyses revealed that mechanical ventilation, routine white cell counts in the peripheral blood, procalcitonin, protein in the CSF, septic shock and carbapenem-resistant AB (CRAB) differed significantly between the groups. Conclusion: AB meningitis in children has a high mortality rate. FT was associated with mechanical ventilation, septic shock, CRAB, lower peripheral leukocyte counts, higher protein levels in the CSF and procalcitonin. Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is a complex multisystem genetic disorder that requires long-term, age-specific monitoring and multidisciplinary care. NF1 symptom burden can significantly affect the quality of life and impose a substantial economic burden on patients and their families. The approval and widespread availability of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MEK) inhibitors such as selumetinib for NF1-related plexiform neurofibromas have revolutionized the standard of care for patients with NF1, however their effective utilization hinges on early recognition of NF1. We present a consensus manuscript describing the challenges observed in the Arabian Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for diagnosing andmanaging NF1. Experts from the GCC also present recommendations for the early recognition and management of NF1 and its complications. A referral pathway that can play a crucial role in helping primary healthcare providers refer their patients to experts is also proposed. Increasing the availability and accessibility of genetic testing at an affordable cost and optimizing personalized NF1 care are essential for NF1 management. Developing regional guidelines for NF1 management and establishing NF1 centers of excellence may facilitate better care and outcomes for patients with NF1 in the GCC region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Prior research has shown that physical activity (PA) is a crucial element for preserving and enhancing health, particularly among children and adolescents, and consistent engagement in PA offers numerous advantages for sustaining typical physical and mental well-being. Purpose: Hence, the primary objective of this study was to examine the relationship between sport participation, muscle-strengthening exercise (MSE), and active commuting (AC) in the co-occurrence of depression and anxiety in Chinese children and adolescents. Method: This cross-sectional investigation occurred in various cities across the southeastern region of China between March 2021 and October 2021. A convenient sampling method was utilized. We invited children and adolescents to participate in the questionnaire survey. A total of 1,996 participants completed the questionnaires with the endorsement of their parents or guardians under the supervision of schoolteachers and headmasters. Girls comprised 47.5% of the participants, and the average age of participants was 14.8 ± 2.0 years. We conducted a logistic regression analysis, including 95% confidence intervals, to explore the association between sports participation, MSE, AC, and the cooccurrence of depression and anxiety. Results: No significant association was observed between weekday active commuting for travelling to and from school and MSE and the comorbidity of depression and anxiety in children and adolescents. A negative association was only detected for those who engaged in muscle-strengthening exercises 4 days a week (OR = 0.540, 95% CI = 0.345-0.845) compared to those who did not partake in such exercises. Conclusion: The present study has provided evidence of the connection between sports participation and the co-occurrence of depression and anxiety among Chinese children and adolescents. Sports participation is more likely to help adolescents relieve anxiety and depression than AC, MSE. In forthcoming research, it is imperative to delve deeper into strategies that enhance the impact of sports on the mental well-being of children and young individuals. Monitoring the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 in children and adolescents can provide valuable information for effective SARS-CoV-2 surveillance, and thus guide vaccination strategies. In this study, we quantified antibodies against the spike S1 domains of several SARS-CoV-2 variants (wild-type, Alpha, Delta, and Omicron variants) as well as endemic human coronaviruses (HCoVs) in 1,309 children and adolescents screened between December 2020 and March 2023. Their antibody binding profiles were compared with those of 22 pre-pandemic samples from children and adolescents using an in-house Luminex®-based Corona Array (CA). The primary objectives of this study were to (i) monitor SARS-CoV-2-specific antibodies in children and adolescents, (ii) evaluate whether the S1-specific antibody response can identify the infecting variant of concern (VoC), (iii) estimate the prevalence of silent infections, and (iv) test whether vaccination or infection with SARS-CoV-2 induce HCoV cross-reactive antibodies. Both SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccination induced a robust antibody response against the S1 domain of WT and VoCs in children and adolescents. Antibodies specific for the S1 domain were able to distinguish between SARS-CoV-2 VoCs in infected children. The serologically identified VoC was typically the predominant VoC at the time of infection. Furthermore, our highly sensitive CA identified more silent SARS-CoV-2 infections than a commercial ELISA (12.1% vs. 6.3%, respectively), and provided insights into the infecting VoC. Seroconversion to endemic HCoVs occurred in early childhood, and vaccination or infection with SARS-CoV-2 did not induce HCoV S1 cross-reactive antibodies. In conclusion, the antibody response to the S1 domain of the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 is highly specific, providing information about the infecting VoC and revealing clinically silent infections. Background: This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to evaluate the effects of cognitively engaging Physical Activity (PA) interventions on Executive Function (EF) in children and adolescents. It examines how different intervention modalities, durations, frequencies, and session lengths influence these effects. Methods: We followed the PRISMA guidelines and searched PubMed, SPORTDiscus, Embase, and Web of Science for relevant studies. Studies were included if they were Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) focusing on PA with cognitive elements targeting EF in healthy children and adolescents. Data were extracted and effect sizes computed using Standardized Mean Differences (SMDs). Results: From an initial 1,635 articles, 23 studies with 2,857 participants were included. The overall effect of cognitively engaging PA on EF was significant (SMD = 0.32, 95% CI 0.14-0.51), with notable improvements in inhibitory control (SMD = 0.35) and working memory (SMD = 0.34). High heterogeneity was observed (I2 = 91.1%). Moderator analyses revealed that interventions lasting more than 6 weeks, with sessions over 20 min and conducted more than twice a week, were particularly effective. Conclusion: Cognitively engaging PA interventions positively impact EF in children and adolescents, particularly in inhibitory control. Effective interventions are characterized by longer duration, higher frequency, and extended session lengths. These findings underscore the importance of integrating cognitive challenges within PA programs to enhance EF, warranting future research and practical applications in educational and developmental settings. Introduction: Paediatric forearm fractures are a prevalent reason for medical consultation, often requiring diagnostic X-rays that present a risk due to ionising radiation, especially concerning given the sensitivity of children's tissues. This paper explores the efficacy of ultrasound imaging, particularly through the development of the SonoBox system, as a safer, non-ionising alternative. With emerging evidence supporting ultrasound as a viable method for fracture assessment, innovations like SonoBox will become increasingly important. Materials and methods: In our project, we want to advance ultrasound-based, contact-free, and automated cross-sectional imaging for diagnosing paediatric forearm fractures. To this end, we are building a technical platform that navigates a commercially available ultrasound probe around the extremity within a water-filled tank, utilising intelligent robot control and image processing methods to generate a comprehensive ultrasound tomogram. Safety and hygiene considerations, gender and diversity relevance, and the potential reduction of radiation exposure and examination pain are pivotal aspects of this endeavour. Results: Preliminary experiments have demonstrated the feasibility of rapidly generating ultrasound tomographies in a water bath, overcoming challenges such as water turbulence during probe movement. The SonoBox prototype has shown promising results in transmitting position data for ultrasound imaging, indicating potential for autonomous, accurate, and potentially painless fracture diagnosis. The project outlines further goals, including the construction of prototypes, validation through patient studies, and development of a hygiene concept for clinical application. Conclusion: The SonoBox project represents a significant step forward in paediatric fracture diagnostics, offering a safer, more comfortable alternative to traditional X-ray imaging. By automating the imaging process and removing the need for direct contact, SonoBox has the potential to improve clinical efficiency, reduce patient discomfort, and broaden the scope of ultrasound applications. Prior research highlighted the effect of home environment on the language development of young children. Recent research has mainly discussed the moderating effect of personality traits like temperament. Nevertheless, the precise mechanism about the relationship between home environments to children's language development remains incompletely understood. This study explored how home environment impacts the language development of 2-year-old toddlers and the role of temperament and executive function in this relationship. We used the Chinese Child Adaptive Behavior Scale, the Temperament Scale for 1-3 years old of toddlers and the Home Environment Scale for Infants' and Toddlers' families to assess children's language development, temperament, and home environment. Simultaneously, the research used the Stroop-like day-night task and themultiple location search task to evaluate children's executive function. A total of 117 2-year-old children as well as their parents were involved in the study. The results revealed that home environment significantly predicts children's language ability with executive function as a mediating role. Temperament dimensions including extraversion, independence, reactivity, and social inhibition play a moderating role between home environment and executive function. The findings contributed to the improved implementation of home education tailored to children with diffent temperament traits, offering effective support for the cognitive and language development of young children. Background: Incidence rates of autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and gender dysphoria (GD) are rising not only in the general population, but particularly among children, adolescents, and young adults with eating disorders (EDs). While ED rates have risen during the COVID pandemic, trends in co-occurring autism, ADHD, and GD have yet to be investigated in detail or at scale by way of large electronic medical record data. Objectives: To investigate trends in rates of co-occurring autism, ADHD, and GD among children, adolescents, and young adults with EDs in years prior to and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: We utilized a de-identified multinational electronic health records database (TriNetX) with 48,558 individuals aged 5-26 diagnosed with eating disorders (EDs) at least twice between 2017 and 2022. The primary predictor variable differentiated between the years of each person's index (first) ED diagnosis (2017-2019 vs. 2020-2022). The primary outcome variable was the rate of new co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses of autism, ADHD, and GD in the year following each patient's first ED diagnosis. We applied propensity scorematched multivariable logistic regressions to compare primary outcomes between 2017-2019 and 2020-2022. Results: Our analysis included 17,445 individuals diagnosed with EDs in 2017-2019 (8% autism, 13.5% ADHD, 1.9% GD) and 31,113 diagnosed with EDs in 2020-2022 (8% autism, 14.6% ADHD, 3.2% GD). After 1:1 propensity score matching, 17,202 individuals from the 2017-2019 cohort were matched to peers mirroring the 2020-2022 cohort. Those diagnosed in 2020-2022 showed a 19% (aOR[95% CI]=1.19[1.07-1.33]), 25% (aOR=1.25[1.04-1.49]), and 36% (aOR=1.36[1.07-1.74]) increase in odds for autism, ADHD, and GD diagnoses, respectively, within the 365 days after the index EDs diagnosis, compared to the 2017-2019 cohort. Discussion: Rates of autism, ADHD, and GD are significantly higher in individuals with ED in the post-pandemic 2020-2022 cohort in comparison to the prepandemic 2017-2019 cohort, even after controlling for baseline levels of cooccurring psychiatric diagnoses. Such findings reveal a critical gap in our current understanding of the totality of ways in which COVID-19 may have impacted the onset and clinical course of EDs, autism, ADHD, and GD among children, adolescents, and young adults. Hypertensive crises in pediatric patients are rare conditions. However, determining their precise prevalence is more challenging than in adults due to the heterogeneity in the definition itself. These crises frequently occur without a prior diagnosis of hypertension and may indicate an underlying cause of secondary hypertension, including pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma (PPGL). The mechanisms of hypertensive crises in the pediatric population with PPGL are directly related to different types of catecholamine excess. Noradrenergic tumors typically present with sustained hypertension due to their predominant action on a1-adrenoceptors in the vasculature. Conversely, adrenergic tumors, through epinephrine binding to b2-adrenoceptors in addition to stimulation of a1- and a2-adrenoceptors, more frequently cause paroxysmal hypertension. Furthermore, the biochemical phenotype also reflects the tumor localization and the presence of a genetic mutation. Recent evidence suggests that more than 80% of PPGL in pediatric cases have a hereditary background. PPGL susceptibility mutations are categorized into three clusters; mutations in cluster 1 are more frequently associated with a noradrenergic phenotype, whereas those in cluster 2 are associated with an adrenergic phenotype. Consequently, the treatment of hypertensive crises in pediatric patients with PPGL, reflecting the underlying pathophysiology, requires first-line therapy with alpha-blockers, potentially in combination with beta-blockers only in the case of tachyarrhythmia after adequate alpha-blockade. The route of administration for treatment depends on the context, such as intraoperative or pre-surgical settings, and whether it presents as a hypertensive emergency (elevated blood pressure with acute target organ damage), where intravenous administration of antihypertensive drugs is mandatory. Conversely, in cases of hypertensive urgency, if children can tolerate oral therapy, intravenous administration may initially be avoided. However, managing these cases is complex and requires careful consideration of the selection and timing of therapy administration, particularly in pediatric patients. Aim: To study Swedish pediatric oncologists’ practical and emotional experiences of referring, including and/or treating children in early-phase clinical trials. Methods: A nationwide study was conducted using a mixed-method approach. Structured interviews based on a study-specific questionnaire and participants’ personal reflections were utilized. Survey responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while participants’ comments were analyzed using thematic analysis. All interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim. Results: In total, 29 physicians with 4 to 32 years of experience in pediatric oncology participated, with 19 (66%) having > 10 years of experience. Three themes appeared: 1) Optimization-based approach focused on finding the most suitable treatment and care for every child with a refractory/relapsed cancer eligible for an early-phase clinical trial; 2) Team-based approach aimed at establishing local and national consensus in decision-making for treatment options, including early-phase clinical trials and palliative care; 3) Family-based approach in which the physicians provided families with actionable information, listened to their desires, and endeavored to maintain hope in challenging circumstances. Several participants (40% with ≤ 10 years of experience and 58% with > 10 years of experience) viewed the early-phase clinical trial as a potential “chance of cure”. A majority (80%) of physicians with ≤ 10 years of experience, reported that they often or always felt personally and emotionally affected by communication regarding early-phase clinical trials. Delivering difficult news in cases of uncertain prognosis was identified as the major challenge. None of the study participants felt adequately prepared in terms of sufficient knowledge and experience regarding early-phase clinical trials. The physicians expressed a need for guidance and training in communication to address these challenges Conclusions: Working with early-phase clinical trials highlight a field where physicians cannot solely rely on their expertise or past experiences, and where they are likely to be deeply emotionally involved. Background: Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) is a significant cause of community-acquired pneumonia with high macrolide resistance rates. Various COVID-19 pandemic restrictions have impacted the prevalence of MP. Objective: To assess the changes in the pattern of MP infections among children before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A total of 36685 enrolled patients, aged 0-18 years, diagnosed with pneumonia and admitted to Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from January 2019 to December 2023, were retrospectively reviewed in this study. The epidemiological characteristics of pediatric MP infection were analyzed. Results: Among 36685 patients, 7610 (20.74%) tested positive for MP. The highest positive rate was observed among children aged over 6 years (55.06%). There was no gender disparity in MP infection across the three phases of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hospital stays were longest for children during the COVID-19 pandemic (P <0.001). MP infection was most prevalent in the summer (29.64%). The lowest positive rate was observed during the pandemic, with the highest rate found after easing the measures across all age groups (P <0.001). There was a surge in the positive rate of MP in the third year after the COVID-19 pandemic. Regression analyses demonstrated a shift in the age range susceptible to MP infection, with children aged 3.8 to 13.5 years post-pandemic compared to the pre-pandemic range of 5.3 to 15.5 years old. Additionally, the average macrolide resistance rate was 79.84%. We observed a higher resistance rate during the pandemic than in the pre- and post-pandemic phases (P <0.001). Conclusion: The restrictive measures implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic have influenced the spread of MP to some extent and altered demographic and clinical characteristics, such as age, age group, season, length of stay, and macrolide resistance. Background: Parental psychosis (bipolar disorder and schizophrenia) are major risk factors for mental health problems in offspring. Although interventions that focus on parenting and the family environment have shown effectiveness in mitigating this risk, no systematic review has examined the impact of simply treating adult bipolar disorder or schizophrenia on their dependent children’s outcomes. Aims: To systematically review the effects (in randomized controlled trials) of adult-based interventions for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, on offspring mental health and wellbeing. Method: Eligibility criteria included randomized controlled trials that examined the treatment of adults with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia that also included child mental health and wellbeing outcomes. PubMed, Scopus, PsycINFO, and Psych Articles databases were searched. Results: 168,317 studies were reviewed; however, zero studies that met the inclusion criteria could be found. Conclusions: The existing research aimed at treating adult bipolar disorder and schizophrenia has so far overlooked the potential advantages that these treatments could provide for their offspring. This is a missed opportunity to understand the mechanisms of intergenerational transmission. Children's reading engagement is associated with the quality of their reading experiences and outcomes; however, research to date has only examined children's reading engagement within the context of traditional print books or digital texts. Augmented Reality represents a hybrid reading experience, where traditional paper books are augmented with digital features (e.g., animations, sounds, comprehension questions). This is the first study to examine children's perspectives and experiences of AR books, within the context of reading engagement. In total, 38 demographically diverse children (aged 8-10, 21 male, 17 English as an Additional Language, 14 ethnicities, nine with teacherreported reading difficulties) from the UK participated. After reading an AR book, children participated in interviews about their reading engagement. Deductive (themes) and inductive (subthemes) approaches to thematic analysis were used, examining children's AR reading experiences within the context of their behavioral, cognitive, affective and social engagement. The majority of children found AR books easy to use, and provided examples of how AR books supported their behavioral engagement (e.g., desire to read more/extend reading practices), altered their cognitive engagement (e.g., reading strategies, visual representation/use of imagination, comprehension monitoring), influenced their affective engagement: (e.g., diverse positive feelings), and social engagement (e.g., prompted interaction and discussion), providing examples suggesting similarities and differences with traditional print books. This paper provides novel in-depth insights into children's perspectives and experiences of AR books, and provides a foundation for researchers, educators, and AR book designers interested in better supporting children's reading experiences and outcomes with AR books. Background: The purpose of the current study was to assess the differences between children with developmental language disorder (DLD) and typically developing (TD) children in their performance of executive functions from working memory, inhibitory control, and cognitive flexibility. Methods: We performed a systematical search of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and Web of Science for case control studies (published in English between January 1, 1950, and October 11, 2023) comparing the differences in the performance of executive functions between DLD and TD children. Results: Forty eligible studies were included in the present study (N  =  3,168 participants). In comparison with TD children, DLD children exhibited significantly poorer performances in all six verbal working memory tasks (backward digit recall task, SMD-1.4321, 95% CI-2.2692 to-0.5950; listening recall task, SMD-1.4469, 95% CI-1.7737 to-1.1202; counting recall task, SMD-0.9192, 95% CI-1.4089 to-0.4295; digit recall task, SMD-1.2321, 95% CI-1.4397 to-1.0244; word list recall task, SMD-1.1375, 95% CI-1.5579 to-0.7171; non-word recall task, SMD-1.5355, 95% CI-1.8122 to-1.2589). However, regarding inhibitory control and cognitive flexibility, the differences between DLD and TD children depended on specific circumstances. In subgroup analyses of all verbal working memory tasks, DLD children presented notably lower performance than TD children in both the monolingual English and monolingual non-English groups, and in both the preschooler and school-aged groups. Introduction: French is traditionally described as a language favoring syntactic means to mark focus, yet recent research shows that prosody is also used. We examine how French-speaking children use prosody to realize narrow focus and contrastive focus in the absence of syntactic means, compared to adults. Method: We elicited SVO sentences using a virtual robot-mediated picture-matching task from monolingual French-speaking adults (N = 11), 4-to 5-year-olds (N = 12), and 7-to 8-year-olds (N = 15). These sentences were produced with narrow focus on either the subject or the object and contrastive focus on the object. Results: Linear mixed-effects logistic regression modeling on duration, mean intensity, mean pitch, and pitch range of the subject and object nouns showed that the 4-to 5-year-olds did not use any of these prosodic cues for focus marking but the 7-to 8-year-olds distinguished narrow focus from non-focus through an increase in duration, mean intensity and to a lesser degree, mean pitch in the object nouns, largely similar to the adults, and tended to use mean pitch for this purpose in the subject nouns, different from the adults, who used duration. Discussion: Our study corroborates previous findings that French-speaking 4-to 5-year-olds do not use prosody for focus. Further, it provides new evidence that 7- to 8-year-olds use prosody to mark narrow focus on the object in a more adult-like manner than narrow focus on the subject, arguably caused by a more dominant role of syntactic means in the subject position in French. Background: With the widespread use of computed tomography (CT), the detection rate of pulmonary nodules in children has gradually increased. Due to the lack of epidemiological evidence and clinical guideline on pulmonary nodule treatment in children, we aimed to provide a reference for the clinical diagnosis and management of pediatirc pulmonary nodules. Methods: This retrospective study collected consecutive cases from April 2012 to July 2021 in the Shanghai Children's Medical Center. The sample included children with pulmonary nodules on chest CT scans and met the inclusion criteria. All patients were categorized into tumor and non-tumor groups by pre-CT clinical diagnosis. Nodule characteristics between groups were analyzed. To establish a clinical assessment model for the benign versus malignant pulmonary nodules, patients who have been followed-up for three months were detected and a decision tree model for nodule malignancy prediction was constructed and validated. Results: The sample comprised 1341 patients with an average age of 7.2 ± 4.6 years. More than half of them (51.7%) were diagnosed with malignancies before CT scan. 48.3% were diagnosed with non-tumor diseases or healthy. Compared to nontumor group, children with tumor weremore likely to havemultiple nodules in both lungs, with larger size and often be accompanied by osteolytic or mass lesions. Based on the decision tree model, patients' history of malignancies, nodules dia meter size=5mm, and specific nodule distribution (multiple in both lungs, multiple in the right lung or solitary in the upper or middle right lobe) were important potential predictors for malignity. In the validation set, sensitivity, specificity and AUC were 0.855, 0.833 and 0.828 (95%CI: 0.712-0.909), respectively. Conclusion: This study conducted a clinical assessment model to differentiate benignity and malignancy of pediatric pulmonary nodules. Objectives: Our study aimed to evaluate patients after suicide attempts treated at the Department of Trauma Surgery for Children in the peripandemic period, assessment of potential risk factors, and the school's participation as the unit responsible for the prevention of suicidal behavior. Materials and methods: Retrospective review of the medical database at equal time intervals of 24 months to identify patients treated before and after the COVID-19 was done. Thorough analysis including injury mechanism, medical procedures, history of previous mental disorders or suicidal behavior was performed. Furthermore, results were compared with the Polish police suicide statistics. Results: Based on our retrospective review we found 4 patients treated in our department before the pandemic and 10 patients treated after COVID-19 outbreak. The group before SARS-Cov-2 era consisted of three girls and one boy with a mean age of 14.97 (12.7-17.6). The group treated in the pandemic crisis consisted of 8 boys and 2 girls, the mean age was 15.49 (10.8-17.2). In the pre-COVID-19 group, 2 out of 4 patients had received psychiatric treatment before, but none had attempted suicide before. In the COVID-19 group, 6 out of 10 patients had previously received psychiatric treatment, moreover 3 of them attempted suicide before. Based on our analysis, the number of individuals who displayed suicidal attempts has raised. Between 2018 and 2021 the largest number of suicides concerned the 13-18 y.o. group, both for the Silesian Voivodeship (H = 9.374; p = 0.0092) and for the whole country (H = 10.203; p = 0.0061). Conclusion: (1) Results of our study indicate that the pandemic may have caused a wide range of negative mental health consequences for young individuals; (2) Suicide attempts in children are often related with high energy trauma; (3) Teachers and school psychologists, as well as medical health providers, should be aware of rising suicide rates among adolescents. Introduction: Chronotype refers to individual preference in circadian cycles and is associated with psychiatric problems. It is mainly classified into early (those who prefer to be active in the morning and sleep and wake up early) and late (those who prefer to be active in the evening and sleep and wake up late) chronotypes. Although previous research has demonstrated associations between chronotype and cognitive function and brain structure in adults, little is known regarding these associations in children. Here, we aimed to investigate the relationship between chronotype and cognitive function in children. Moreover, based on the significant association between chronotype and specific cognitive functions, we extracted regions-of-interest (ROI) and examined the association between chronotype and ROI volumes. Methods: Data from 4,493 children (mean age of 143.06 months) from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study were obtained, wherein chronotype (mid-sleep time on free days corrected for sleep debt on school days) was assessed by the Munich Chronotype Questionnaire. Subsequently, the associations between chronotype, cognitive function, and ROI volumes were evaluated using linear mixed-effects models. Results: Behaviorally, chronotype was negatively associated with vocabulary knowledge, reading skills, and episodic memory performance. Based on these associations, the ROI analysis focused on language-related and episodic memory- related areas revealed a negative association between chronotype and left precentral gyrus and right posterior cingulate cortex volumes. Furthermore, the precentral gyrus volume was positively associated with vocabulary knowledge and reading skills, while the posterior cingulate cortex volume was positively associated with episodic memory performance. Discussion: These results suggest that children with late chronotype have lower language comprehension and episodic memory and smaller brain volumes in the left precentral gyrus and right posterior cingulate cortex associated with these cognitive functions. We collected respiratory specimens from 128 pediatric patients diagnosed with pneumonia in Beijing in late 2023. Mycoplasma pneumoniae was detected in 77.3% (99/128) patients, with 36.4% (4/11), 82.9% (34/41), 80.3% (61/76) in children aged less than 3years, 3-6years, over 7years, respectively. Mycoplasma pneumoniae (M. pneumoniae) was characterized using P1 gene typing, MLVA typing and sequencing of domain V of the 23S rRNA gene. P1 gene type 1 (P1-1; 76.1%, 54/71) and MLVA type 4-5-7-2 (73.7%, 73/99) were predominant. MLVA identified a new genotype: 3-4-6-2. Macrolide resistance-associated mutations were detected in 100% of samples, with A2063G accounting for 99% and A2064G for 1%. The positive rate of M. pneumoniae was higher compared to previous reports, especially in children less than 3years, suggesting a M. pneumoniae epidemic showing a younger age trend occurred in late 2023 in Beijing, China. Higher proportions of macrolide-resistant M. pneumoniae, P1-1 and 4-5-7-2 genotype M. pneumoniae indicated increased macrolide resistance rate and genotyping shift phenomenon, which might be attributable to this epidemic. Additionally, complete clinical information from 73 M. pneumoniae pneumonia inpatients were analyzed. The incidence of severe M. pneumoniae pneumonia was 56.2% (41/73). Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia patients exhibited longer duration of fever, with a median value of 10.0days (IQR, 8.0-13.0), and higher incidence of complications (74.0%, 54/73). However, in this cohort, we found that the severity of M. pneumoniae pneumonia, co-infection, or complications were not associated with M. pneumoniae P1 gene or MLVA types. Background: Levetiracetam (LEV), an antiepileptic drug, has been effective in adult migraine prevention but lacks extensive research in children. This study evaluates LEV's efficacy and safety for pediatric migraine prophylaxis. Methods: We reviewed randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and non-RCTs in major databases through 8 January 2024, focusing on four efficacy endpoints and adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Data synthesis involved pooled relative risks or odds ratios for dichotomous outcomes and mean differences for continuous outcomes, using fixed- or random-effects models as appropriate. Results: Eight studies with 190 participants showed that after taking LEV, the mean headache frequency decreased 5.19 per month (MD: -5.19, 95% CI: -7.11 to -3.27, p < 0.00001) and improved headache-free rates to 28% (95% CI: 0.17-0.41). More than 83% experienced a >50% reduction in monthly headache frequency. The migraine disability score decreased by 33.51 points (MD: -33.51, 95% CI: -38.46 to -28.55, p < 0.00001). ADR incidence did not significantly differ between LEV and control groups (RR: 1.06, 95% CI: 0.39 to 2.85, p = 0.91), with an overall ADR rate of 18% (95% CI: 0.13-0.24). The most common ADR was irritability (12%), leading to treatment discontinuation in 13% of cases (95% CI: 0.05-0.30). Conclusion: LEV has shown good efficacy in preventing pediatric migraines. Introduction: The immunological characteristics that could protect children with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from severe or fatal illnesses have not been fully understood yet. Methods: Here, we performed single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis on peripheral blood samples of 15 children (8 with COVID-19) and compared them to 18 adults (13 with COVID-19). Results: The child-adult integrated single cell data indicated that children with the disease presented a restrained response to type I interferon in most of the major immune cell types, along with suppression of upstream interferon regulatory factor and toll-like receptor expression in monocytes, which was confirmed by in vitro interferon stimulation assays. Unlike adult patients, children with COVID-19 showed lower frequencies of activated proinflammatory CD14+ monocytes, possibly explaining the rareness of cytokine storm in them. Notably, natural killer (NK) cells in pediatric patients displayed potent cytotoxicity with a rich expression of cytotoxic molecules and upregulated cytotoxic pathways, whereas the cellular senescence, along with the Notch signaling pathway, was significantly downregulated in NK cells, all suggesting more robust cytotoxicity in NK cells of children than adult patients that was further confirmed by CD107a degranulation assays. Lastly, a modest adaptive immune response was evident with more naïve T cells but less activated and proliferated T cells while less naïve B cells but more activated B cells in children over adult patients. Conclusion: Conclusively, this preliminary study revealed distinct cell frequency and activation status of major immune cell types, particularly more robust NK cell cytotoxicity in PBMC that might help protect children from severe COVID-19. The past decade has seen the global reemergence and rapid spread of enterovirus D68 (EV-D68), a respiratory pathogen that causes severe respiratory illness and paralysis in children. EV-D68 was first isolated in 1962 from children with pneumonia. Sporadic cases and small outbreaks have been reported since then with a major respiratory disease outbreak in 2014 associated with an increased number of children diagnosed with polio-like paralysis. From 2014-2018, major outbreaks were reported every other year in a biennial pattern with > 90% of the cases occurring in children under the age of 16. With the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 and the subsequent COVID-19 pandemic, there was a significant decrease in the prevalence EV-D68 cases along with other respiratory diseases. However, since the relaxation of pandemic social distancing protocols and masking mandates the number of EV-D68 cases have begun to rise againculminating in another outbreak in 2022. Here we review the virology, pathogenesis, and the immune response to EV-D68, and discuss the epidemiology of EV-D68 infections and the divergence of contemporary strains from historical strains. Purpose: The study aimed to investigate the correlation between the change of sex hormone levels and ocular surface parameters in girls with idiopathic central precocious puberty(ICPP). Methods: Eighteen girls with ICPP and 18 age-matched normal girls participated in this study, all of the participants had undergone physical measurements, laboratory tests, imaging examination and ocular surface assessments. Results: The Objective Scatter Index (OSI) in the ICPP group was significantly higher than in the control group (P = 0.031), girls with ICPP showed slightly lower MNITBUT compared to the normal control group, although this difference was not statistically significant. Bivariate analysis revealed a positive association between estradiol and OSI (r=0.383, P=0.021), Additionally, in the study population, both Luteinizing hormone (LH) and Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) were negatively correlated with Mean noninvasive tear breakup time (MNITBUT) (r=-0.359, P=0.031)(r=-0.357, P=0.032). Conclusion: In comparison with the normal control group, alterations in the OSI were observed in girls with ICPP. This alteration may be associated with an elevation in estrogen levels. Although there was a slight non-significant decrease in NITBUT in ICPP girls, the negative correlation between LH and FSH with MNITBUT suggests new perspective for further investigation. Introduction: Although pets provide several social-emotional benefits for children, the risk of zoonosis must be considered among immunocompromised individuals. Methods: A prospective study was conducted in a tertiary hospital including immunocompromised patients younger than 20 years owning dogs and/or cats. Colonization and/or infection was evaluated by stool studies, bacterial swabs, blood polymerase chain reaction and serological studies in both patients and their pets, to evaluate potential zoonotic transmission occurrence. Results: We included 74 patients and their 92 pets (63 dogs, 29 cats). Up to 44.6% of the patients and 31.5% of the pets had at least 1 positive result. Up to 18.4% of pets' fecal samples were positive (bacteria, parasites or hepatitis E virus). No helminths were observed despite the high frequency of incorrect intestinal deworming practices. Among children, gastrointestinal microorganisms were found in 37.3% (primarily Clostridium difficile). Colonization by Staphylococcus pseudintermedius was common among pets (8.0%) but not among children (0.0%). No shared colonization between owners and pets was observed, except in one case (Blastocystis in both patient and pet feces). Among patients, serologies were positive for Strongyloides stercoralis (14.8%), Toxocara canis (3.2%), Bartonella henselae (19.1%) and hepatitis E (5.6%). Serology was positive for Rickettsia spp. (22.6%) and Babesia spp. (6.5%) in dogs and for Leishmania spp. (14.3%) and Toxoplasma spp. (14.3%) in cats. Conclusion: Exposure to zoonotic agents was detected in both patients and pets; however, shared colonization events were almost nonexistent. Introduction: Off-season upsurge of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection with changed characteristics and heightened clinical severity during the postCOVID-19 era are raising serious concerns. This study aimed to develop and validate a nomogram for predicting the risk of severe acute lower respiratory tract infection (SALRTI) in children hospitalized for RSV infection during the postCOVID-19 era using machine learning techniques. Methods: A multicenter retrospective study was performed in nine tertiary hospitals in Yunnan, China, enrolling children hospitalized for RSV infection at seven of the nine participating hospitals during January–December 2023 into the development dataset. Thirty-nine variables covering demographic, clinical, and laboratory characteristics were collected. Primary screening and dimension reduction of data were performed using Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression, followed by identification of independent risk factors for RSV-associated SALRTI using Logistic regression, thus finally establishing a predictive nomogram model. Performance of the nomogram was internally evaluated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA) based on the development dataset. External validation of our model was conducted using same methods based on two independent RSV cohorts comprising pediatric RSV inpatients from another two participating hospitals between January– March 2024. Results: The development dataset included 1102 patients, 239 (21.7%) of whom developed SALRTI; while the external validation dataset included 249 patients (142 in Lincang subset and 107 in Dali subset), 58 (23.3%) of whom were diagnosed as SALRTI. Nine variables, including age, preterm birth, underlying condition, seizures, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), interleukin-6 (IL-6), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), D-dimer, and co-infection, were eventually confirmed as the independent risk factors of RSV-associated SALRTI. A predictive nomogram was established via integrating these nine predictors. In both internal and external validations, ROC curves indicated that the nomogram had satisfactory discrimination ability, calibration curves demonstrated good agreement between the nomogram-predicted and observed probabilities of outcome, and DCA showed that the nomogram possessed favorable clinical application potential. Conclusion: A novel nomogram combining several common clinical and inflammatory indicators was successfully developed to predict RSV-associated SALRTI. Introduction: SARS-CoV-2 infection is hypothesized to be more severe in immunocompromised patients; however, clinical outcomes in children with inborn errors of immunity (IEI) during the Omicron pandemic in China have not been reported. Methods: This cohort study retrospectively reviewed 71 SARS-CoV-2-infected children with IEI using nationwide data from the National Center for Children's Health of China. COVID-19 was diagnosed by a positive rapid antigen or nucleic acid test result. Results: Among 71 SARS-CoV-2-infected children with IEI, male preponderance (male: female ratio of ~1.8:1), a median age of 8 years (IQR 3-11), and a predominance of antibody deficiency (19/71, 26.8%) were detected. Most of the patients got infected through household transmission, while a small proportion of them did so during hospital visits. The mean time periods were 3.3 days (n=44) for incubation, 8.4 days for symptoms (n=69), and 8.8 days for viral shedding (n=37). The time to viral shedding was proportional to the symptomatic period (R² = 0.1243, p=0.0323) and prolonged in children with X-linked agammaglobulinemia. The most common symptoms of COVID-19 were fever, and some children showed only aggravation of the underlying disease. 15% of IEI children progress to pneumonia, 85% require medication, 17% are admitted to hospital, and 4.1% are classified as critical. Previously application of anti-infective medications was associated with an increased risk of hospitalization after COVID-19 infection. Of the 71 children with IEI, all recovered from COVID-19. Conclusion: Overall, Omicron variant did not cause significant life-threatening infections among children with IEI in China, and most of them had a good clinical outcome. Objective: We compared peripheral blood (PBL) chemokine ligand/receptor profiles in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) or obesity (OB) (both involving inflammation and vascular complications) to identify their associations with cardiometabolic risk factors. Materials and methods: PBL samples from children and adolescents (12-18 years) included: healthy controls (n=29), patients with T1D (n=31) and OB subjects (n=34). Frequency of mononuclear cell populations and chemokine receptor expression (CCR2, CCR4, CXCR3, CXCR4) were determined by flow cytometry. Chemokine levels of CCL2, CCL5, CXCL10 and CXCL11 were measured by bead-based assay and CXCL12 by ELISA. Data were correlated with cardiovascular, metabolic and inflammatory parameters. Results: The proportion of CD14+ monocytes was higher in T1D, whereas the proportion of CD19+ B lymphocytes was higher and CD3+ T lymphocytes was lower in OB. The level of CCL2 was higher in T1D (241.0 (IQR 189.6-295.3) pg/mL in T1D vs 191.5 (IQR 158.0-254.7) pg/mL in control, p=0.033), CXCL11 was lower in OB (6.6 (IQR 4.9-7.7) pg/mL in OB vs 8.2 (IQR 6.9-11.3) pg/mL in control, p=0.018) and CXCL12 was lower in both diseases (2.0 (IQR 1.8-2.5) ng/mL in T1D, 2.1 (IQR 1.9-2.4) ng/mL in OB vs 2.4 (IQR 2.2-2.5) ng/mL in control, p=0.016). Numerous significant associations were found for chemokine ligand/receptor profiles and clinical data. Among these, we are suggesting the most important indicators of cardiometabolic risk in T1D: positive associations of CCR2+ monocytes with blood pressure and CCL12 levels with urine albuminto-creatinine ratio (ACR), inverse association of CXCR3+ B lymphocytes with AST but positive with triglycerides; and OB: positive associations of CXCL12 levels with triglycerides and AST/ALT, inverse association of CCR4+ and CXCR3+ monocytes with ACR. Both diseases share positive associations for CCR4+ T lymphocytes and blood pressure, inverse associations of CXCR4+ subsets with ACR and CXCR3+ T lymphocytes with lipid profile. Conclusion: Significantly changed chemokine ligand/receptor profiles were found in both T1D and OB even at a young age. Although different associations with cardiometabolic risk factors indicate disease-specific changes, overlapping pattern was found for the associations between CCR4+ T lymphocytes and vascular inflammation, CXCR4+ subsets and albuminuria as well as CXCR3+ T lymphocytes and dyslipidemia. Biliary atresia (BA) is a progressive fibroinflammatory disease affecting both the extrahepatic and intrahepatic bile ducts, potentially leading to chronic cholestasis and biliary cirrhosis. Despite its prevalence, the exact mechanisms behind BA development remain incompletely understood. Recent research suggests that the gut microbiota and its metabolites may play significant roles in BA development. This paper offers a comprehensive review of the changing characteristics of gut microbiota and their metabolites at different stages of BA in children. It discusses their influence on the host's inflammatory response, immune system, and bile acid metabolism. Objective: To clarify the impact of intravenous infusion of gamma globulin (IVIg) on antinuclear antibodies (ANAs) in children. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the data of children with nonspecific autoantibody-related diseases whose antinuclear antibody (ANA) and autoantibody profiles were detected in our hospital from January to March 2022. A total of 108 patients with a clear history of IVIg infusion within 28 days composed the IVIg group, and 1201 patients without a history of IVIg infusion composed the non-IVIg group. Results: All patients in the IVIg group had either positive ANAs or positive autoantibodies. Anti-SSA, anti-Ro52 and anti-AMA Mi2 were the top three autoantibodies in the IVIg group. The proportions of patients who were positive for either of these three autoantibodies in the IVIg group were significantly greater than those in the non-IVIg group (all P<0.5). Spearman correlation analysis revealed that the signal intensities of anti-SSA and anti-Ro52 were negatively correlated with the number of days of ANA detection after IVIg infusion (P<0.05). Multiple logistic analyses revealed that a greater total dosage of IVIg, greater IVIg per kilogram of body weight, and fewer ANA detection days after IVIg infusion were independent risk factors for positive anti-SSA and anti-Ro52 results. Conclusions: It is recommended that if rheumatic diseases are suspected, ANA detection should be carried out beforeIVIg infusion. Background: Since the outbreak of COVID-19, China has implemented a series of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs), effectively containing the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) as well as various respiratory pathogens. With the continuous relaxation of restrictions, China has entered a new phase of the post-pandemic era. However, the epidemiological differences of Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) between the two phases in Ningbo and even in China remain unclear. Methods: Data of children aged 0-14 years who visited the Ningbo Medical Center LiHuiLi Hospital due to acute respiratory tract infections from January 2020 to December 2023 were collected. PCR was used to detect 13 respiratory pathogens and the macrolide-resistance of Mycoplasma pneumoniae. Results: Among 10,206 children, 2,360 were infected with MP (23.12%). Among the total, the MP positive rate during the NPI phase (6.35%) was significantly lower than that during the non-NPI phase (34.28%), while the macrolide resistance rate increased from 62.5% (NPI phase) to 81.1% (non-NPI phase). The rate of MP co-infection increased from 11.2% (NPI phase) to 30.3% (non-NPI phase). MP infection exhibited obvious seasonality, with the highest prevalence in autumn (30.0%) followed by summer (23.6%). There were differences in MP positivity rates among different age groups, with the highest among school-age children at 39.5%. During the NPI phase, all age groups were less susceptible to MP, while during the non-NPI phase, the susceptible age for MP was 4-12 years, with 8 years being the most susceptible. The susceptible age for MP co-infection was 0-6 years. MP exhibited antagonistic effects against numerous pathogens. Compared to MP single infection, the proportion of pneumonia was higher in MP co-infection cases. Conclusion: The removal of NPIs significantly impacted the spread of MP, altering population characteristics including age, seasonality, macrolide resistance, and MP co-infection rates. Background: Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetic progressive neuromuscular disease. Nusinersen is the first disease modifying drug approved to treat patients with SMA. Our study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of nusinersen treatment on motor function in children with SMA. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the data of 52 genetically confirmed SMA patients from November 2020 to September 2023. Motor function was assessed based on standardized scales from baseline to 14 months of follow-up. Results: Of patients in this study, the majority had SMA type 2 (40/52, 76.9%), 5 (9.6%) and 7 (13.5%) patients had SMA types 1 and 3, respectively. The median disease duration was 11 months (range 0-52), and the median age at initiation of treatment was 44.5 months (range 5-192). Motor function of all the patients with SMA improved from baseline to 14 months of follow-up. Mean increases of 4.6-point (p = 0.173), 4.7-point (p = 0.021) and 2.7-point (p = 0.013) were observed from baseline to 14 months of follow-up for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Infant Test of Neuromuscular Disorders scores, the Hammersmith Functional Motor Scale Expanded (HFMSE) and the Revised Upper Limb Module (RULM), respectively. Increased disease duration and age of treatment initiation were negatively correlated with the changes in HFMSE scores (r = -0.567, p = 0.043; r = -0.771 and p = 0.002, respectively). Similar results were observed for the RULM scores (r = -0.714, p = 0.014; r = -0.638 and p = 0.035, respectively). Conclusion: Our study suggested that 14 months of treatment with nusinersen was effective and improved the motor function of children with SMA types 1, 2, or 3. Background: SIOP-CNS-GCT-II European trial was opened for the treatment of patients of any age with central nervous system germ cell tumour (CNS-GCT). Four courses of pre-irradiation chemotherapy were delivered. The influence of patient age on chemotherapy related acute toxicity (CRAT) was assessed. Methods: CRAT was analysed according to age-groups: children (aged ≤11 years), adolescents (aged 12-17 years), adults (aged ≥18 years) and to chemotherapy type: CarboPEI (alternating etoposide-carboplatin/etoposide- ifosfamide) for non-metastatic germinoma; PEI (cisplatin-etoposide- ifosfamide) for standard-risk non-germinomatous GCT (NGGCT); PEI and high-dose PEI (HD-PEI), for high-risk or poorly responsive NGGCTs. Results: 296 patients were assessable for CRAT: 105 children, 121 adolescents, 70 adults (max age: 41 years). Median cumulative doses/m² of chemotherapy were similar among age-groups. The proportion of germinoma over NGGCT (and accordingly use of CarboPEI chemotherapy) was higher in the adult groups (79%) versus the other two groups (62%). Delay in chemotherapy ≥7 days was noticed in 27%, 38%, and 19% of children, adolescents, and adults, respectively. Grade ≥3 haematological and non-haematological adverse events (AEs) were observed in 94%/31%, 97%/36%, and 77%/21% of children, adolescents, and adults, respectively. No toxic death was reported. Grade ≥3 AEs and delayed chemotherapies were significantly rarer in adults when compared with adolescents, even when adjusted on chemotherapy type: odds ratio: 0.1 [95% CI 0.02-0.4], and 0.2 [95%CI 0.1-0.4] in the group treated with CarboPEI. Conclusion: Adult patients can be treated safely with a chemotherapy intensive protocol, with even less toxicity than that observed in adolescents. Introduction: Creativity is a fundamental competence that manifests itself in various domains of knowledge, including verbal creativity. The main aim of this study was to identify indicators of verbal creativity for the assessment of three writing tasks. Methods: Sixteen multidisciplinary and international creativity experts participated in a two-stage Delphi panel. The administered questionnaire asked about the measurement or non-measurement of eight indicators of verbal creative thinking in three tasks: problem posing, creative idea generation, and idea improvement. Originality is the most important indicator of creativity. The indicators identified in the first task were fluency, flexibility, originality, elaboration, and sensitivity to problems. The second task measures flexibility, originality, elaboration, opacity, and dynamic integration. In the third task, fluency, flexibility, originality, elaboration, dynamic integration, and refinement of ideas are considered. Results: The results of this study are key to progress in the field of measuring verbal creative thinking. Introduction: The transition of experience from unconscious to conscious, the emergent process, is a crucial topic in consciousness studies. Three frameworks exist to explain the process: (1) consciousness arises in an all-or-none manner; (2) consciousness arises gradually; (3) consciousness arises either all at once or gradually, depending on the level of stimulus processing (low- vs. high-level). However, the development of emergent processes of consciousness remains unclear. This study examines the development of emergent processes of consciousness based on the level of stimulus processing framework. Methods: Ninety-nine children (5-12 year-olds) and adults participated in two online discrimination tasks. These tasks involved color discrimination as lower-level processing and number magnitude discrimination as higher-level processing, as well as backward masking with stimulus onset asynchronies (SOAs) varying from 16.7 to 266.7 ms. We measured objective discrimination accuracy and used a 4-scale Perceptual Awareness Scale (PAS) to assess subjective awareness. We fit the data to a four-parameter nonlinear function to estimate the center of the slope (threshold) and the range of the slope (gradualness, the measure of emergent process of consciousness) of the model. Results: The results showed the threshold of objective discrimination was significantly higher in 5-6 year-olds than in 7-12 year-olds, but not of subjective awareness. The emergent process of objective discrimination in the number task was more gradual than in the color task. Discussion: The findings suggest that the thresholds of subjective awareness in 5-6 year-olds and objective discrimination in 7-9 year-olds are similar to those in adults. Moreover, the emergent processes of subjective awareness and objective discrimination in 5-6 year-olds are also similar to those in adults. Infective endocarditis is a rare disease in children. The etiology is mainly bacterial. However, viral infective endocarditis, possibly related to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has also been reported. The pathophysiological principle of the connection between the two entities seems to be attributed to the transient immune deficiency of the body during the infection. Additionally, SARS-CoV-2 is reported in the literature as a direct cardiopathic virus. Therefore, the new coronavirus seems to have the ability to affect both the intact cardiac tissue and the previously damaged one both during the acute episode and at a distance from it. Consequently, we propose to review the main pathophysiological aspects of pediatric cardiac damage caused by SARS-CoV-2. The ultimate goal is to deepen existing knowledge, broaden the horizon of understanding and analysis regarding the systemic damage induced by viral infections, and strengthen an information base from which to start a meta-analysis. Next, we performed a non-systematized screening of the specialized literature with reference to cases of endocarditis in the pediatric population, reported in the period 2020-2023. From the total of articles found, we chose to include in the review a number of 6 case reports, including a number of 7 patients (5 children and 2 adolescents). Analysis of reports suggests that SARS-CoV-2 infection could play a role in the development of endocarditis, either directly through active infection or indirectly through a post-infectious immune response. Also, pre-existing conditions and complex medical history predispose to an increased risk of developing a severe, complicated form of endocarditis. Also, the lack of data on the vaccination history and the failure to categorize the infection depending on the type of antibodies (IgM or IgG) in some studies represent a major bias in the reports. Introduction: Recently, the rise of antibiotic resistance has prompted a reconsideration of tetracyclines. However, existing studies are inadequate in assessing the pediatric safety of this class of antibiotics. To address the gap, our study aims to comprehensively assess the safety of tetracyclines in children. Methods: Adverse event (AE) reports from January 2005 to September 2023 were obtained from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database, and reporting odds ratio (ROR) was performed to identify potential risk signals in children under 18 years old who were administered any of the three tetracyclines: doxycycline, minocycline, and tigecycline. Results: A total of 1903 AE cases were included in our study: 782 for doxycycline, 981 for minocycline, and 140 for tigecycline. Doxycycline and tigecycline were predominantly associated with “general disorders and administration site conditions” and “gastrointestinal disorders,” while minocycline was more frequently linked to “skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders” and “gastrointestinal disorders.” Psychiatric risks predominantly included depression, suicidal ideation, and suicide attempt. In the category of skin and subcutaneous tissues, 30.88% of the minocycline-induced drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) cases resulted in death, alongside a high occurrence of co-occurring AEs such as multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM), and autoimmune thyroiditis. As for the endocrine system, both doxycycline and minocycline were found to potentially increase the risk of thyroid dysfunction. For children under the age of 8, doxycycline was associated with tooth discoloration (N = 7, ROR = 20.11%, 95% CI: 9.48–42.67), although it remained unclear whether the discoloration was permanent. Conclusion: Our findings indicated that for pediatric patients, the majority of results were in line with the prescribing information and previous studies, and minocycline tended to cause more frequent and severe AEs than doxycyclineHowever, it is noteworthy that exceptions were found for psychiatric disorders and thyroid dysfunction associated with doxycycline, which are not mentioned in its FDA prescribing information. Background: Children undergoing allo-HCT are at high risk of EBV-related complications. The objective of the study was to analyze the impact of prophylactic post-transplant rituximab on EBV infection and EBV-PTLD in children after allo-HCT, to determine the risk factors for the development of EBV infection and EBV-PTLD and to determine their outcomes. Additionally, the impact of EBV-driven complications on transplant outcomes was analyzed. Methods: Single center retrospective analysis of EBV-related complications in pediatric population undergoing allo-HCT, based on strategy of prophylaxis with rituximab. Overall 276 consecutive children, including 122 on prophylaxis, were analyzed for EBV-driven complications and transplant outcomes. Results: Prophylaxis with rituximab resulted in significant reduction of EBV infection (from 35.1% to 20.5%; HR=2.7; p<0.0001), and EBV-PTLD (from 13.0% to 3.3%; HR=0.23; p=0.0045). A trend for improved survival was also observed (HR=0.66; p=0.068), while non-relapse mortality was comparable in both cohorts. The peak value of viral load was a risk factor in the development of EBV-PTLD: 10-fold higher peak viral load in comparison to the baseline 104 copies/mL, caused a 3-fold (HR=3.36; p<0.001) increase in the risk of EBV-PTLD. Rituximab treatment was effective as a preemptive therapy in 91.1%, and in 70.9% in EBV-PTLD. Patients who developed PTLD had dismal 5-year overall survival (29% vs 60%; p<0.001), and an increased risk of relapse (72% vs 35%; p=0.024). Conclusions: Rituximab for prophylaxis of EBV infection and EBV-PTLD was highly effective in pediatric population. Introduction: Due to an inhibited tryptophan resorption, patients with fructose malabsorption are expected to experience decreased serotonin synthesis. A deficiency of serotonin may cause internalizing mental disorders like depression and anxiety, and a fructose-oriented eating behavior may affect these symptoms. Methods: The parents of 24 children and adolescents with a currently diagnosed fructose malabsorption aged 4;00–13;02  years (M  =  8.10, SD  =  2.05), the parents of 12 patients with a currently confirmed combination of fructose and lactose malabsorption aged 4;00–12;11  years (M  =  8.07, SD  =  2.11) and the parents of a comparative sample of 19 healthy participants aged 5;00 to 17;07  years (M  =  9.06, SD  =  3.04) were interviewed. The interviews were conducted using a screening questionnaire of the German “Diagnostic System of Mental Disorders in children and adolescents based on the ICD-10 and DSM-5 DISYPS-III” and a self-developed questionnaire on eating, leisure and sleeping behavior. Results: On standardized scales parents of children with fructose malabsorption reported higher levels of Depression compared to symptoms of Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD) and Oppositional Defiant and Conduct Disorders (ODD/CD). Compared to healthy controls, for patients with fructose malabsorption, higher symptom levels of Depression and Anxiety were reported. With regard to eating behavior, within the group with a combination of fructose and lactose malabsorption, a strong positive association between an increased fruit sugar consumption and higher levels of Anxiety and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders/Tics were found. Background: Follicular helper T cells (Tfh) are pivotal in B cell responses. Activation of the purinergic receptor P2X7 on Tfh cells regulates their activity. We investigated the ATP-P2X7R axis in circulating Tfh (cTfh) cells during Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) infection. Methods: We analyzed two cohorts: children with RSV infection (moderate, n=30; severe, n=21) and healthy children (n=23). We utilized ELISA to quantify the levels of PreF RSV protein-specific IgG antibodies, IL-21 cytokine, and soluble P2X7R (sP2X7R) in both plasma and nasopharyngeal aspirates (NPA). Additionally, luminometry was employed to determine ATP levels in plasma, NPA and supernatant culture. The frequency of cTfh cells, P2X7R expression, and plasmablasts were assessed by flow cytometry. To evaluate apoptosis, proliferation, and IL-21 production by cTfh cells, we cultured PBMCs in the presence of Bz-ATP and/or P2X7R antagonist (KN-62) and a flow cytometry analysis was performed. Results: In children with severe RSV disease, we observed diminished titers of neutralizing anti-PreF IgG antibodies. Additionally, severe infections, compared to moderate cases, were associated with fewer cTfh cells and reduced plasma levels of IL-21. Our investigation revealed dysregulation in the ATP-P2X7R pathway during RSV infection. This was characterized by elevated ATP levels in both plasma and NPA samples, increased expression of P2X7R on cTfh cells, lower levels of sP2X7R, and heightened ATP release from PBMCs upon stimulation, particularly evident in severe cases. Importantly, ATP exposure decreased cTfh proliferative response and IL-21 production, while promoting their apoptosis. The P2X7R antagonist KN-62 mitigated these effects. Furthermore, disease severity positively correlated with ATP levels in plasma and NPA samples and inversely correlated with cTfh frequency. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that activation of the ATP-P2X7R pathway during RSV infection may contribute to limiting the cTfh cell compartment by promoting cell death and dysfunction, ultimately leading to increased disease severity. Introduction: Limited data are available regarding SARS-CoV-2 serological response dynamics in pediatric patients with COVID-19, contributing to gaps in our understanding of the immune response in this population. This study aimed to investigate SARS-CoV-2 IgG seropositivity in patients diagnosed with COVID-19 during hospitalization and 2-4 weeks after discharge. Methods: A cohort of patients, consisting of 31 individuals with confirmed acute COVID-19 infection and 27 diagnosed with Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C), was enrolled in the study. Follow-up clinic appointments were scheduled for 2-4 weeks post-discharge. During admission and follow-up, blood samples were collected from each patient for laboratory analysis. Anti-nucleoprotein SARS-CoV-2 IgG levels were determined using the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method. Results: In this study, a cohort of 58 patients was examined. At admission, 52% (n = 14) of MIS-C patients and 10% (n = 3) of acute COVID-19 patients had positive SARS-CoV-2 IgG test. Only 48 cases were referred to the hospital, and follow-up data was available for 20 cases with MIS-C and 28 cases with acute COVID-19. All patients (n = 15) who initially tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 IgG at admission remained positive serology during follow-up (100%). Among the 33 patients who initially tested negative, 12 (37.5%) showed a positive serology result during follow-up, while 21 (62.5%) remained negative. Within this subgroup, 11 cases (44%) were diagnosed with acute COVID-19, and one patient (12.5%) presented with MIS-C. Fourteen cases with acute COVID-19 infection (56%) and seven cases with MIS-C (87.5%) consistently showed negative serology results throughout the study. During follow-up, the median lymphocyte count demonstrated a significant difference, with 0.96 x 109 cells per L (IQR: 0.75-3.0 x 109 cells per L) in the SARS-CoV-2 IgG-negative group and 2.9 x 109 cells per L (IQR = 1.33-7.22 x 109 cells per L) in the SARS-CoV-2 IgG-positive group (p-value = 0.03). Patients who demonstrated seropositivity during the follow-up were associated with a notably severe disease (p-value = 0.028). Conclusion: Our study highlights the dynamic nature of SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibody responses in pediatric patients with COVID-19 infection. We observed a notable increase in seropositivity rates during follow-up. Furthermore, patients who were seropositive at follow-up demonstrated a severe disease course and lower lymphocyte counts compared to those with persistently negative serology. Background: Pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory illness mainly caused by Bordetella pertussis (BP). Bordetella parapertussis (BPP) can induce symptoms compatible with pertussis, but has been underdiagnosed and underreported. The current pertussis vaccines offer low protection against BPP. Herein, we aim to reveal the epidemiology and genomic evolution of BPP in Shanghai, China. Methods: Children diagnosed with BPP infection from January 2017 to December 2022 in Shanghai, China were enrolled. We performed antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST), multiple locus variable-number tandem repeat analysis (MLVA), and whole genome sequencing (WGS) analysis. A total of 260 international BPP genomes were chosen for comparison to investigate the genomic diversity and phylogenetic characteristics of Chinese strains within a global context. Results: Sixty patients were diagnosed with BPP infection by culture, with the positive ratio of 3.5‰ (60/17337) for BPP in nasopharyngeal swap samples. The average age of patients was 4.5 ± 0.3 years. BPPs contained four MLVA types including MT6 (65.0%), MT4 (26.7%), untype-1 (6.7%) and MT5 (1.7%), and none of strains showed resistance to macrolides. All strains carried virulence genotype of ptxP37/ptxA13/ptxB3/ptxC3/ptxD3/ptxE3/fim2-2/fim3-10. MT4 and MT5 strains carried prn54, whereas MT6 and untype-1 BPPs expressed prn101. We identified two outbreaks after 2020 caused by MT4 and MT6 strains, each corresponding to distinct WGS-based phylogenetic lineages. The MT4-lineage is estimated to have originated around 1991 and has since spread globally, being introduced to China between 2005 and 2010. In contrast, the MT6-lineage was exclusively identified in China and is inferred to have originated around 2002. Conclusion: We revealed the genomic diversity of BPPs circulating in Shanghai, China, and reported the outbreaks of MT6 and MT4 BPPs after 2020. Introduction:Over the years, the conceptual approach to pediatric rehabilitation has reevaluated the parent's role in the therapeutic process, considering parental involvement as a necessary condition for the effectiveness of the intervention. In the field of pediatric intervention, the therapeutic use of robots represents a growing clinical interest, but the feasibility and applicability of these robotic interventions, including those involving parents, remain unclear. This systematic review aims to investigate parental involvement in robot-mediated interventions (RMI) for children and adolescents in the current literature. Our main goal is to analyze and summarize all existing studies to discuss and draw future research directions and implications for clinical practice. Method: After collecting results from 1,106 studies, the studies selected were analyzed using thematic analysis. The literature review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines by searching databases such as PubMed and Web of Science until 07 February 2023. Studies that met the following inclusion criteria were included: (1) the use of a robot as a therapeutic-rehabilitation tool and (2) the presence/involvement of parents/caregivers in child-robot therapeutic sessions. Results: A total of 10 articles were included. The extracted data included study design, participant characteristics, type of robot used, outcome measures, aim, and type of intervention. The results reveal that parental involvement in RMI could be feasible and useful in improving intervention efficacy, particularly in improving the child's social-communicative abilities and the caregiver's educational skills. Objective: To determine how cognitive domains mediate the link between fitness components, their global score (GFS), and adolescents' academic achievement (ACA) across various school subjects. Methods: In this study, 1,296 adolescents aged 10-14 participated. GFS was computed by three fitness components (strength, muscular, and cardiorespiratory fitness) through the ALPHA-fitness test battery. ACA was determined by five school subjects (Language, English, Mathematics, Science, and History) and two academic scores (a) "Academic Average" (five subjects) and (b) "Academic-PISA" (Language, Mathematics, and Science). A principal component analysis was performed to establish four factors (working memory [WM], cognitive flexibility [CF], inhibitory control [IC], and fluid reasoning [FR]). A parallel mediation approach was implemented with 5,000 bootstrapped samples controlled for sex, maturity, central obesity, having breakfast before cognitive tasks, schools, and school vulnerability. Total, direct, indirect effects, and mediation percentages were estimated. Results: Overall, the finding showed a full parallel mediation effect for Language (92.5%) and English (53.9%), while a partial mediation for Mathematics (43.0%), Science (43.8%), History (45.9%), "Academic Average" (50.6%), and "Academic-PISA" (51.5%). In particular, WM, IC, and FR mediated all school subjects except mathematics, where IC was not significant. CF has not mediated any relationship between GF and academic performance. Conclusion: This study underscores the pivotal role of cognitive domains, specifically WM, IC, and FR, in mediating the link between physical fitness and academic performance in adolescents. Obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome is a respiratory sleep disorder that affects 1-5% of children. It occurs equally in males and females, with higher incidence in school age and adolescence. OSAS may be caused by several factors, but in children, adenotonsillar hypertrophy, obesity, and maxillo-mandibular deficits are the most common. In general, there is a reduction in the diameter of the airway with reduced airflow. This condition worsens during sleep due to the muscular hypotonia, resulting in apnoeas or hypoventilation. While snoring is the primary symptom, OSAS-related manifestations have a wide spectrum. Some of these symptoms relate to the nocturnal phase, including disturbed sleep, frequent changes of position, apnoeas and oral respiration. Other symptoms concern the daytime hours, such as drowsiness, irritability, inattention, difficulties with learning and memorisation, and poor school performance, especially in patient suffering from overlapping syndromes (e.g., Down syndrome). In some cases, the child's general growth may also be affected. Early diagnosis of this condition is crucial in limiting associated symptoms that can significantly impact a paediatric patient's quality of life, with the potential for the condition to persist into adulthood. Diagnosis involves evaluating several aspects, beginning with a comprehensive anamnesis that includes specific questionnaires, followed by an objective examination. This is followed by instrumental diagnosis, for which polysomnography is considered the gold standard, assessing several parameters, including the apnoea-hypopnoea index (AHI) and oxygen saturation. However, it is not the sole tool for assessing the characteristics of this condition. Other possibilities, such as night-time video recording, nocturnal oximetry, can be chosen when polysomnography is not available and even tested at home, even though with a lower diagnostic accuracy. The treatment of OSAS varies depending on the cause. In children, the most frequent therapies are adenotonsillectomy or orthodontic therapies, specifically maxillary expansion. Background: Primary central nervous system germ cell tumors (GCT) are rare neoplasms in pediatrics. Treatment depends on the histological subtype and extent of the disease. Overall survival (OS) is above 90% for germinomas and 70%-80% for nongerminomatous GCT (NGGCT) in high-income countries (HIC) while data are usually lacking for patients in Low-Middle Income country (LMIC). Objective: This study aims to describe the experience of treating patients with CNS GCT in four of eight countries, members of the Asociacio'n de Hemato-Oncologı'a Pedia'trica de Centro Ame'rica (AHOPCA), and determine their 5-year OS. Design/methods: We conducted a retrospective chart review of patients treated for CNS GCT. Epidemiological and clinical characteristics, histology, treatment modalities, and outcomes were analyzed. Results: From 2001 to 2021, 48 patients were included: 22 from Guatemala, 18 from Nicaragua, three from the Dominican Republic, and five from El Salvador. Thirty-one (64.6%) were boys; the median age at diagnosis was 10.2 years (range: 1 to 17 years). Presenting symptoms were headaches (n = 24, 50%), visual disturbances (n = 17, 35.4%), vomiting (n = 12, 25%), nausea (n = 8, 16.7%), and diabetes insipidus (n = 7, 14.6%). Two patients with NGGCT presented with precocious puberty. Biopsy or tumor resection was performed in 38 cases (79.2%): 23 (88.4%) germinomas, 11 (78.6%) NGGCT, and four (50%) CNS GCT. Eight patientswere diagnosed and treated based on CSF tumor marker elevation; four germinomas (BHCG 11.32-29.41 mUI/mL) and four NGGCT (BHCG 84.43-201.97 mUI/mL or positive AFP > 10 UI/mL). Tumor locations included suprasellar (n = 17, 35.4%), pineal (n = 13, 27.1%), thalamus/basal ganglia (n = 5, 10.4%), other (n = 12, 25%), and one bifocal. Four (8.3%) had metastatic disease, and six had positive CSF; staging data were incomplete in 25 patients (52%). Patients were treated with varied chemotherapy and radiotherapy modalities. Nine patients had incomplete data regarding treatment. Five-yearOSwas 65% (68% for germinoma, 50.6% for NGGCT, and 85.7% for unclassified GCT). Conclusions: Germinoma was the most common histology, and there was a male predominance. More than half of patients had incomplete staging data and treatment was variable across the region. Objective: School age is a critical period for the development of individual gender equality consciousness. The purpose of this study was to explore the potential classes of school-age children's gender equality consciousness, influencing factors and their differences in gender role, thus providing targeted guidance for the formulation and implementation of gender equality education strategies. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 1846 school-age children using the demographic information questionnaire, gender equality consciousness questionnaire and Bem Sex Role Inventory. A latent class analysis was performed to explore gender equality consciousness latent classes. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was conducted to examine the predictors of class membership, and chi-square test was used to compare the gender role of each latent class. Results: The average age of the included 1846 participants was 10.10 ± 1.82 years old. The proportion of boy, grade 6 and living in urban area, respectively, were 50.8, 25.3, and 60.2%. The only children was 16.3% and left-behind children was 22.5%. 60.5% of all children thought their parents had a good relationship. The core family structure in all participants was 54.1%. Mothers were the caregivers of most children (63.6%). The same-sex friends more than 3 was 73.5%, while opposite-sex friends ranged from 0 to 1 was 41.7%. Three latent classes were identified and labeled "high gender equality consciousness" class (20.6%), "moderate gender equality consciousness" class (42.3%) and "low high gender equality consciousness" class (37.1%). Factors affecting the different types of school-age children's gender equality consciousness include gender, grade, caregiver, place of residence, whether they are left-behind children and parental relationship. Rural and left-behind children are more likely to enter the "low gender equality consciousness" group. Children in the "low gender equality consciousness" group had a lower proportion of androgynous gender role. Conclusion: Rural children and left-behind children are the priority groups for gender equality education. Gender role is the important predictors and intervention targets of children's gender equality consciousness.
