5. How do digital media strengthen the role of social networks in promoting farmers' adoption of climate change mitigation measures?

Purpose: This paper investigates the ways digital media applications in rural areas have transformed the influence of social networks (SN) on farmers' adoption of various climate change mitigation measures (CCMM), and explores the key mechanisms behind this transformation. Design/methodology/approach: The study analyzes data from 1,002 farmers' surveys. First, a logit model is used to measure the impact of SN on the adoption of different types of CCMM. Then, the interaction term between digital media usage (DMU) and SN is introduced to analyze the moderating effect of digital media on the impact of SN. Finally, a conditional process model is used to explore the mediating mechanism of agricultural socialization services (ASS) and the validity of information acquisition (VIA). Findings: The results reveal that: (1) SN significantly promotes the adoption of CCMM and the marginal effect of this impact varies with different kinds of technologies. (2) DMU reinforces the effectiveness of SN in promoting farmers' adoption of CCMM. (3) The key mechanisms of the process in (2) are the ASS and the VIA. Originality/value: This study shows that in the context of DMU, SN's promotion effect on farmers' adoption of CCMM is strengthened. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The emergence of internet-based business models has given rise to online higher education institutions (OHEIs) that offer their undergraduate and graduate degree programs exclusively online with minimal physical presence. Research on OHEIs discusses the need for external legitimacy and resource acquisition, often ignoring the role of quality among these institutions. Hence, this study aims to investigate the role of digital quality of education on OHEIs' survival. Design/methodology/approach: Guided by four different inter-disciplinary theories, a conceptual framework is offered based on a comprehensive literature review. Findings: The role of digital quality of education in improving the survival and strategic competitiveness of institutions in the US online higher education industry is highlighted. Research limitations/implications: This conceptual paper highlights how the digital quality of education becomes increasingly important over the life cycle of OHEIs. Practical implications: The proposed framework suggests that despite the competition provided by traditional and well-entrenched players, OHEIs can improve their survival and competitiveness if they invest strategically in the digital quality of education. Originality/value: This study offers an overarching conceptual framework developed through an integration of multiple theoretical perspectives and grounded in the US online higher education industry. 7. Pilgrim's progress? A field ethnography of multimodal recording, curating and sharing of the Camino de Santiago experience.

Purpose: Religious and secular pilgrimages present rich opportunities for investigating information activities in an original and intriguing context. While the Information Science community has previously shown interest in digital expressions of religion and spirituality, discussion on pilgrimage is at a nascent stage. The purpose of this study is to conduct an in situ investigation of how pilgrims record, curate, and share their experiences. Design/methodology/approach: A field ethnography was conducted while walking with, observing and interviewing pilgrims along the Camino de Santiago, a popular European pilgrimage and UNESCO World Heritage route. Data collected from 25 semi-structured interviews and participant observations were thematically analysed within a theoretical framework combining Stebbins' contemplation and Nature Challenge Activity in serious leisure and Hektor's model of information behaviour. Findings: This study expands the interpretation of pilgrimage by introducing new insights into pilgrims, different types of mobilities, spaces and objects, and social interactions. By using field ethnography and close-up observations of praxis, pilgrimage is analysed as a socio-technical process and discussed literature within and beyond Information Science. The work presents new understandings of the interplay between spirituality, embodied information practices, physical and online social interactions, analogue and digital media before, during and after these journeys and legacy aspirations. Originality/value: The study is original in its combination of theoretical models and their ethnographic in situ application. It contributes to a more in-depth, in-the-field understanding of how pilgrims document their experiences via a rich palette of old and new media, the dynamics of using digital technologies during such physical and inner journeys and pilgrims' sharing practices. Implications for serious leisure and information practices are discussed, from theoretical to practical challenges and opportunities offered by pilgrimage experiences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

8. The "here and now" effect: JoMO, FoMO and the well-being of social media users.

Purpose: The rapid growth of social media has changed how people interact and connect with one another while also giving rise to new social-media associated psychological experiences, such as the well-known fear of missing out (FoMO) and the somewhat new phenomena, the joy of missing out (JoMO). This study aims to develop a new scale for measuring JoMO and explore its independent nature and relationships with well-being, social comparison and demographic variables. Design/methodology/approach: A sample of 230 participants filled out an online survey, including questions about demographic details, well-being, social media engagement, social comparison, FoMO and a new JoMO scale. The data was analyzed using exploratory factor analysis, hierarchical regression and structural equation modeling. Findings: The study confirmed the validity and reliability of the new JoMO scale in three sub-categories: active JoMO, passive JoMO and coping with disconnection. Younger individuals and those who were single, with weaker psychological well-being, higher engagement in social media and greater social comparison inclinations tended to experience higher levels of FoMO. Conversely, older individuals, women and those who enjoyed stronger psychological well-being and reduced social media engagement demonstrated higher levels of JoMO. The findings also suggest a complex relationship between FoMO and JoMO. Practical implications: The creation of an innovative JoMO measurement tool could transform both scholarly research and practical approaches to digital media interactions. This tool offers a deeper understanding of the intricate links between JoMO and factors such as social comparison and FoMO, paving the way for targeted interventions. By utilizing this, experts can foster healthier online behaviors and better psychological health through increased JoMO consciousness, reduced social media engagement and social comparisons, and FoMO management. Therefore, this fresh instrument assists in clarifying and improving how individuals engage with digital technology. Originality/value: This research validates the JoMO scale, enhancing our understanding of JoMO and its potential effects on well-being, as well as its associations with other variables. In addition, this research provides valuable insights for future studies on social media use and JoMO, and for developing effective strategies for managing healthier online experiences. Purpose: As e-commerce has expanded rapidly, online shopping platforms have become widespread in India and throughout the world. Product return, which has a negative effect on the E-Commerce Industry's economic and ecological sustainability, is one of the E-Commerce Industry's greatest challenges in light of the substantial increase in online transactions. The authors have analyzed the purchasing patterns of the customers to better comprehend their product purchase and return patterns. Design/methodology/approach: The authors utilized digital transformation techniques-based recency, frequency and monetary models to better understand and segment potential customers in order to address personalized strategies to increase sales, and the authors performed seller clustering using k-means and hierarchical clustering to determine why some sellers have the most sales and what products they offer that entice customers to purchase. Findings: The authors discovered, through the application of digital transformation models to customer segmentation, that over 61.15% of consumers are likely to purchase, loyal customers and utilize firm service, whereas approximately 35% of customers have either stopped purchasing or have relatively low spending. To retain these consumer segments, special consideration and an enticing offer are required. As the authors dug deeper into the seller clustering, we discovered that the maximum number of clusters is six, while certain clusters indicate that prompt delivery of the goods plays a crucial role in customer feedback and high sales volume. Originality/value: This is one of the rare study that develops a seller segmentation strategy by utilizing digital transformation-based methods in order to achieve seller group division. 10. Digital media recording and broadcasting classroom using Internet intelligent image positioning and opinion monitoring in communication.

- Abstract
Purpose: The digital media recording and broadcasting classroom using Internet real-time intelligent image positioning and opinion monitoring in communication teaching is researched and analyzed. Design/methodology/approach: First, spatial grid positioning and monitoring and image intelligent recognition technologies were used to extract and analyze teaching images by mastering Internet of Things (IoT) technology and establishing an intelligent image positioning and opinion monitoring digital media recording and broadcasting system framework. Next, a positioning node algorithm was utilized to measure the image distance, and then a moving node location model under the IoT was established. In addition, a radial basis function (RBF) neural network was used to realize the signal transmission function. The experimental data of the adopted RBF based on the optimization of the adaptive cuckoo search (ACS-RBF) neural network, particle swarm algorithm neural network, and method of least squares optimization were compared and analyzed. In addition, a more efficient RBF neural network was adopted. Finally, the digital media recording and broadcasting classroom scheme of real-time intelligent image positioning and opinion monitoring was designed. In addition, the application environment of digital media actual teacher teaching was detected, and recording and broadcasting pictures were analyzed and researched. Findings: The actual value, predicted value, and the number of predicted samples of the ACS-RBF model were all better than those of the two other neural networks. According to the analysis and comparison of the sampling optimization Monte Carlo localization (SOMCL), Monte Carlo, and genetic algorithm optimization-based Monte Carlo positioning algorithms, the SOMCL algorithm showed better robustness, and its positioning efficiency was superior to that of the two other algorithms. In addition, the SOMCL algorithm greatly reduced the positioning and monitoring energy consumption. Engaging with digital heritage requires understanding not only to comprehend what is simulated but also the reasons leading to its creation and curation, and how to ensure both the digital media and the significance of the cultural heritage it portrays are passed on effectively, meaningfully, and appropriately. The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization defines 'digital heritage' to comprise of computer-based materials of enduring value some of which require active preservation strategies to maintain them for years to come. With the proliferation of digital technologies and digital media, computer games have increasingly been seen as not only depicters of cultural heritage and platforms for virtual heritage scholarship and dissemination but also as digital cultural artefacts worthy of preservation. In this chapter, we examine how games (both digital and non-digital) can communicate cultural heritage in a galleries, libraries, archives, and museums [GLAM] setting. We also consider how they can and have been used to explore, communicate, and preserve heritage and, in particular, Indigenous heritage. Despite their apparently transient and ephemeral nature, especially compared to conventional media such as books, we argue computer games can be incorporated into active preservation approaches to digital heritage. Indeed, they may be of value to cultural heritage that needs to be not only viewed but also viscerally experienced or otherwise performed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
