In recent years, distributed optimization problem have a wide range of applications in various fields. This paper considers the prescribed-time distributed optimization problem with/without constraints. Firstly, we assume the state of each agent is constrained, and the prescribed-time distributed optimization algorithm with constraints is designed on the basis of gradient projection algorithm and consensus algorithm. Secondly, the constrained distributed optimization problem is transformed into the unconstrained distributed optimization problem, and according to the gradient descent algorithm and consensus algorithm, we also propose the prescribed-time distributed optimization algorithm without constraints. By designing the appropriate objective functions, we prove the multi-agent system can converge to the optimal solution within any prescribed-time, and the convergence time is fully independent of the initial conditions and system parameters. Two key challenges in optimal control include efficiently solving high-dimensional problems and handling optimal control problems with state-dependent running costs. In this paper, we consider a class of optimal control problems whose running costs consist of a quadratic on the control variable and a convex, non-negative, piecewise affine function on the state variable. We provide the analytical solution for this class of optimal control problems as well as a Hopf-type representation formula for the corresponding Hamilton-Jacobi partial differential equations. Finally, we propose efficient numerical algorithms based on our Hopf-type representation formula, convex optimization algorithms, and min-plus techniques. We present several high-dimensional numerical examples, which demonstrate that our algorithms overcome the curse of dimensionality. We also describe a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) implementation of our numerical solver whose latency scales linearly in the spatial dimension and that achieves approximately a 40 times speedup compared to a parallelized central processing unit (CPU) implementation. Thus, our numerical results demonstrate the promising performance boosts that FPGAs are able to achieve over CPUs. Access points (APs) are used to define coordinates in an indoor positioning system with Wi-Fi. These systems utilize existing infrastructure and Wi-Fi APs to find out the exact location of a device based on its RSSI and MAC address. The accuracy of these devices usually depends on the number of APs located nearby and the environment in which they are deployed. Therefore, the ideal selection of these points increases the discernibility of the localization technique. The rapid development of metaheuristic algorithms in recent years has demonstrated their effectiveness in resolving challenging optimization issues. The primary research goal is to investigate how to enhance indoor localization accuracy with metaheuristic algorithms and to assess the efficacy of positioning using these methods. In this paper, we propose a novel optimization algorithm called the Improved Pathfinder Algorithm (IPFA) using metaheuristic hybridization, where our contribution is twofold. The IPFA's superiority in optimization is used to choose the important APs. Subsequently, to maintain the generality of the localization performance, we created a feature-based classification model for the chosen AP subsets. Two prominent benchmark datasets, UJIIndoorLoc and JUIndoorLoc, were used to test the proposed framework. The proposed Indoor Localization framework attained an accuracy of 98.26% with a mean absolute error (MAE) of approximately 0.79 m. Metaheuristic intelligent optimization algorithms are effective methods for solving high-dimensional nonlinear complex optimization problems. The slime mould algorithm is a novel intelligent optimization algorithm proposed in 2020. However, the basic slime mould algorithm still has some shortcomings, such as slow convergence rate, easy to fall into local extremum, and unbalanced exploration and development capability. To further improve and expand the optimization ability and application scope of the slime mould algorithm, and enhance its performance in solving large-scale complex optimization problems, this paper proposes a slime mould algorithm (PPMSMA) based on Gaussian perturbation and phased position update, positive variation, and multi-strategy greedy selection. Firstly, Gaussian perturbation and phased position update mechanism are introduced to avoid the difficulty of the algorithm to jump out of the local extrema and also to speed up the convergence of the algorithm. Then, a positive variation strategy based on the sine cosine mechanism is introduced to move the variation of the population towards a better direction. Finally, a multi-strategy greedy selection mechanism is introduced, which effectively improves the search ability of the algorithm. The analysis and research on the optimization ability and performance of metaheuristic algorithms mainly include two aspects: theoretical analysis and experimental testing. Theoretical analysis has always been a relatively weak link in the research of metaheuristic algorithms, and there is currently no clear and effective method formed. For experimental testing, although there are more methods, they often lack systematization and adequacy. In this paper, a more complete, fine-grained and systematic approach to theoretical and experimental analysis is proposed. In the theoretical analysis part, the time complexity and spatial complexity of the PPMSMA algorithm are analytically proved to be the same as the basic slime mould algorithm, and the probability measure method is used to prove that PPMSMA algorithm can converge to the global optimal solution. In the simulation experiment section, the PPMSMA algorithm is compared with multiple sets of 10 representative comparison algorithms on the CEC2017 complex test function set suite for optimization accuracy analysis, Friedman comprehensive ranking analysis, average optimization rate analysis of PPMSMA relative to other algorithms, convergence curve analysis, and Wilcoxon rank-sum test analysis. To further examine the scalability of the improved algorithm in solving large-scale optimization problems, PPMSMA is compared with the above 10 comparative algorithms under 1000 dimensional conditions in the large-scale global optimization test set CEC2010, and the solution stability of each algorithm is analyzed through violin plots. The results show that the PPMSMA algorithm has significantly improved convergence performance, optimization accuracy, and solution stability in both high-dimensional and large-scale complex problems, and has significant advantages compared to multiple sets of 10 representative comparative algorithms. Finally, PPMSMA and 10 other comparative algorithms are used to solve engineering design optimization problems with different complexities. Achieving precision in the prediction of buildings' dynamic heat load is crucial for the advancement of smart heating systems. This research highlights the urgent need to enhance the accuracy of models predicting dynamic heat load. Through literature review, distinguished machine learning and regression algorithms were chosen to formulate prediction models. These models employ a data time-step adaptive strategy, a physics-guided loss function, and fundamental principles of heat transfer. Optimization algorithms of a mathematical nature were utilized to fine-tune the parameters and the framework of long short-term memory (LSTM) and multi-layer perceptron (MLP) models. An analytical comparison was undertaken between physics-guided models and those not guided by physics. Principal conclusions are: 1) Pelican optimization algorithm (POA)-LSTM model emerges as superior in heat load prediction accuracy of an office building, with percentage errors for actual and simulated datasets ranging from −6.7 % to 5.8 % and −5.2 %–4.5 %, respectively, and the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) standing at 2.3 % and 1.3 %. 2) The linear regression model exhibits the lowest precision, with a MAPE of 17.5 % and 4.0 % for the 7-day prediction results in the actual and simulated datasets, respectively. The electric power distribution system (PDS) and the water distribution system (WDS) are coupled with each other through electricity-driven water facilities (EdWFs), such as pumps, water desalination plants, and wastewater treatment facilities. However, they are generally owned and operated by different utilities, and there does not exist an operator that possesses full information of both systems. As a result, centralized methods are not applicable for coordinating the operation of the two systems. This paper proposes a decentralized framework where the PDS and WDS operators solve their own operation problems, respectively, by sharing only limited information. Nevertheless, the boundary variables (i.e., the variables shared between two systems) are discontinuous due to their dependence on the on/off nature of EdWFs. Unfortunately, mature decentralized/distributed optimization algorithms like the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) cannot guarantee convergence and optimality for a case like this. Therefore, this paper develops a novel algorithm that can guarantee convergence and optimality for the decentralized optimization of PDS and WDS based on a recently developed algorithm called the SD-GS-AL method. The SD-GS-AL method is a combination of the simplicial decomposition (SD), gauss–seidel (GS), and augmented Lagrangian (AL) methods, which can guarantee convergence and optimality for mixed-integer programs (MIPs) with continuous boundary variables. Nonetheless, the original SD-GS-AL algorithm does not work for the PDS-WDS coordination problem where the boundary variables are discontinuous. This paper modifies and improves the original SD-GS-AL algorithm by introducing update rules to discontinuous boundary variables (called the Auxiliary Variables Update step). The proposed mixed-integer boundary compatible (MIBC) SD-GS-AL algorithm has the following benefits: (1) it is capable of handling cases whose boundary variables are discontinuous with convergence and optimality guaranteed for mild assumptions, and (2) it only requires limited information exchange between PDS and WDS operators, which will help preserve the privacy of the two utilities and reduce the investment in building additional communication channels. Simulations on two coupled PDS and WDS test cases (Case 1: IEEE-13 node PDS and 11-node WDS, and Case 2: IEEE-37 node PDS and 36-node WDS) show that the proposed MIBC algorithm converges to the optimal solutions while the original SD-GS-AL does not converge for both test cases. Many-objective optimization problems (MaOPs) are challenging tasks involving optimizing many conflicting objectives simultaneously. Decomposition-based many-objective evolutionary algorithms have effectively maintained a balance between convergence and diversity in recent years. However, these algorithms face challenges in accurately approximating the complex geometric structure of irregular Pareto fronts (PFs). In this paper, an information entropy-driven evolutionary algorithm based on reinforcement learning (RL-RVEA) for many-objective optimization with irregular Pareto fronts is proposed. The proposed algorithm leverages reinforcement learning to guide the evolution process by interacting with the environment to learn the shape and features of PF, which adaptively adjusts the distribution of reference vectors to cover the PFs structure effectively. Moreover, an information entropy-driven adaptive scalarization approach is designed in this paper to reflect the diversity of nondominated solutions, which facilitates the algorithm to balance multiple competing objectives adaptively and select solutions efficiently while maintaining individual diversity. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, the RL-RVEA compared with seven state-of-the-art algorithms on the DTLZ, MaF, and WFG test suites and four real-world MaOPs. Surrogate-assisted multi-objective optimization algorithms have attracted widespread attention due to their outstanding performance in computationally expensive real-world problems. However, there is relatively little research about multi-objective optimization with complex and expensive constraints. Hence, a data-driven co-evolutionary exploration (DDCEE) algorithm is presented in this paper for the above-mentioned problems, where Radial Basis Functions are utilized to train dynamically updated surrogate models for each objective and constraint. Specifically, a data-driven co-evolutionary exploration framework is proposed to fully utilize and mine the potential available information of RBF models, and RBF models are constantly updated to guide co-evolutionary in discovering valuable feasible regions and achieving global optimization. In co-evolutionary exploration, one population focuses on exploring the entire space without considering constraints, while the other population focuses on exploring feasible regions and collaborating by sharing their respective offspring. Reference vectors are introduced in co-evolutionary exploration to divide the objective space into several sub-regions for further selection. Furthermore, an adaptive selection of promising samples strategy is presented to reasonably utilize the information of solutions with good convergence and enhance the convergence and diversity of the Pareto front. Cloud computing has emerged as a cornerstone technology for modern computational paradigms due to its scalability and flexibility. One critical aspect of cloud computing is efficient task scheduling, which directly impacts system performance and resource utilization. In this paper, we propose an enhanced optimization algorithm tailored for task scheduling in cloud environments. Building upon the foundation of the Jaya algorithm and Synergistic Swarm Optimization (SSO), our approach integrates a Levy flight mechanism to enhance exploration-exploitation trade-offs and improve convergence speed. The Jaya algorithm's ability to exploit the current best solutions is complemented by the SSO's collaborative search strategy, resulting in a synergistic optimization framework. Moreover, the incorporation of Levy flights injects stochasticity into the search process, enabling the algorithm to escape local optima and navigate complex solution spaces more effectively. We evaluate the proposed algorithm against state-of-the-art approaches using benchmark task scheduling problems in cloud environments. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of our method in terms of solution quality, convergence speed, and scalability. Ship pipe route design (SPRD) is a difficult and time-consuming job due to the complexity of the routing space and the large number of pipes. This paper introduces a hybrid optimization algorithm called SQNSGA-II based on the proposed Square strategy and NSGA-II to efficiently solve SPRD problems in complex situations. The details of the hybrid algorithm are introduced, including the principle of the Square strategy, genetic operators and pipe repair operators et al. Additionally, a new method called Intercept Search strategy is proposed for optimizing branch pipe design in complex scenarios. With the increasing complexity of the electromagnetic environment, the traditional communication anti-jamming technology has been difficult to effectively resist various high-dynamic intelligent jamming threats. However, this paper addresses the emerging threat issues posed by high-dynamic intelligent jamming and proposes an intelligent anti-jamming communication algorithm based on proximal policy optimization (PPO). First, the communication immunity problem under high-dynamic jamming is modeled as a multi-parameter markov decision process (MDP). Then, the optimal joint anti-jamming strategy for the system's channel, time slot, transmission rate, and transmit power is obtained by solving with the proximal policy optimization algorithm. This approach enhances the convergence speed of the algorithm and reduces the time required to reach an optimal strategy. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm effectively adjusts multiple communication parameters simultaneously, exhibiting superior statistical average packet receive ratio and convergence speed compared to existing anti-jamming communication methods based on Q-learning and DQN, and has remarkable anti-jamming performance. This paper introduces an improved differential evolution algorithm based on cooperative multi-population (CMp-DE for short), which combines diverse population collaboration mechanisms and catalytic factors into an improved differential evolution framework. By harnessing various population collaboration mechanisms, the algorithm enhances the diversity of individuals within populations during initial iterations and reduces it during later iterations, thereby harmonizing the algorithm's exploratory and exploitative capabilities. Furthermore, a novel mutation operator is proposed that divides the iterative process into exploration and exploitation phases, thereby augmenting the algorithm's global exploration prowess. Lastly, a catalytic operator is introduced to generate new individuals near post-crossover individuals based on a specified rule, which enhances the algorithm's ability to escape local optima and increasing stability. The proposed CMp-DE is benchmarked against the CEC2017 benchmark test functions and compared against 13 algorithms, including five differential evolution algorithms and their variants, as well as eight state-of-the-art metaheuristic optimization algorithms. This evaluation assesses the CMp-DE's solution accuracy, convergence, stability, and scalability. Finally, the applicability of CMp-DE is validated by addressing six practical optimization problems. The experimental results show that CMp-DE surpasses other algorithms in terms of both convergence accuracy and robustness. Moreover, integrating a catalytic operator with other optimization algorithms notably boosts performance in convergence accuracy and stability. Reinforcement Learning (RL) has gained significant popularity in recent years for its ability to solve complex control problems. However, most existing RL algorithms are designed to train policies for each environment in isolation, limiting their applicability to real-world scenarios with many related environments. Recently, many multitask optimization algorithms have been proposed and successfully applied to a wide range of optimization problems. However, existing studies mainly focus on solving multiple continuous function benchmarks and overlook the potential of tailoring towards RL. In this paper, we propose a simple multitask optimization algorithm called Multitask Augmented Random Search (MARS) that trains multiple RL agents together and exploits the performance surplus from highly correlated tasks. MARS is a modification of the simple random search Augmented Random Search (ARS) algorithm, which has been shown to outperform complicated methods in solving continuous control MuJoCo environments such as Soft Actor-Critic (SAC), Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO), and Trusted Region Policy Optimization (TRPO). In this paper, a multi-operator differential evolution algorithm (MODE) is proposed to solve the Optimal Power Flow problem, called MODE-OPF. The MODE-OPF utilizes the strengths of more than one differential evolution operator in a single algorithmic framework. Additionally, an adaptive method is proposed to update the number of solutions evolved by each DE operator based on both the diversity of the population and the quality of solutions. This adaptive method has the ability to maintain diversity at the early stages of the optimization process and boost convergence at the later ones. The performance of the proposed MODE-OPF is tested by solving OPF problems for both small and large IEEE bus systems (i.e., IEEE-30 and IEEE-118) while considering intermittent solar and wind power generation. To prove the suitability of this proposed algorithm, its performance has been compared against several state-of-the-art optimization algorithms, where MODE-OPF outperforms other algorithms in all experimental results thereby improving a network's performance with lower cost. This paper introduces a novel surrogate-assisted multi-objective nutcracker optimization algorithm. This algorithm is built upon the recently proposed nutcracker optimization algorithm, drawing inspiration from the behaviours observed in Clark's nutcrackers. The algorithm is developed based on two distinct behaviours exhibited by these birds. To comprehensively evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, a dual-pronged approach is adopted. On the one hand, a set of artificial test problems is employed to scrutinize the algorithm's capabilities, while on the other hand, a set of real-world problems is considered to assess its practical efficacy. The results of the proposed algorithm are evaluated in comparison to existing baseline algorithms and state-of-the-art algorithms, using well-recognized performance metrics, both qualitatively and quantitatively. This paper proposes a hybrid bio-inspired search and optimization algorithm that combines the strengths of the PB3C (Parallel Big Bang Big Crunch) and 3PGA (3 Parent Genetic Algorithm) algorithms. The hybrid algorithm employs a single population-based evolutionary search coupled with multi-population parallel processing techniques to address optimization problems. The proposed algorithm is implemented in MATLAB software. We evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm on the CEC2021 standard test bench suite. The performance of the proposed approach is compared with that of the other nine algorithms. The comparative analysis shows that the proposed hybrid PB3C and 3PGA algorithms performed better than the other nine optimization algorithms. Furthermore, this chapter proposes an HPB3C-3PGA-based approach to evolve the near-optimal architecture of CNN. The proposed plant image classification approach is implemented in Python and compared with 12 other approaches. The proposed approach achieved an accuracy of 98.96% on the Mendeley dataset and 98.97% on the CVIP100 dataset. The proposed approach outperforms all other approaches for the plant leaf classification problem. This paper introduces a novel meta-heuristic optimization algorithm named Clustering Wavelet Opposition-based Marine Predators Algorithm (CWOMPA) to address some limitations present in the well-established Marine Predators Algorithm (MPA). CWOMPA incorporates three key strategies: a fuzzy clustering approach for escaping local optima, using wavelet basis function-based impact coefficient adjustment for elites to prevent premature convergence, and finally an adaptive opposition-based learning strategy for maintaining population diversity. Compared with some recent meta-heuristic algorithms, extensive evaluations conducted affirm that CWOMPA achieves the best Friedman rank, 4.30 and 1.95 respectively, on 23 benchmark functions and the CEC 2017 benchmark set. Not only does CWOMPA demonstrate significant effectiveness on six constrained problems from the CEC 2020 real-world benchmarks, but also when applied to 14 medical datasets, it gains superior Friedman ranks in terms of selected features, classification accuracy, F-Score, and objective function value, 2.5, 2.25, 2.96, 2.93 respectively, outperforming other common methods. Finally, CWOMPA exhibits the highest classification accuracy across all datasets and the best F-Score performance in nine datasets compared to traditional feature selection algorithms. The obtained results reveal that CWOMPA is a powerful and versatile optimization algorithm with significant potential in various real-world applications, including feature selection for medical datasets. Combinatorial optimization problems (COPs) play an important role in both industrial production and theoretical research. As a classical class of optimization algorithms, evolutionary algorithms have shown good performance in COPs. However, as the size of the problem increases, it becomes difficult for evolutionary algorithms to produce satisfactory solutions within the specified time. In recent years, neural network algorithms have been applied to solve COPs and have shown superior effects. Inspired by this, this paper proposes a new algorithm based on graph structure for solving COPs. Through relaxation, COPs are transformed into their corresponding continuous optimization problems. The output state of our algorithm is converted to a discrete solution by approximation method. Compared with previous algorithms, our algorithm can not only solve COPs with general form such as binary quadratic programming (BQP), but also solve COPs with special form, which greatly expands the application scope of neural network algorithms. In addition, our algorithm can be embedded into other problem frameworks such as solving multi-objective combinatorial optimization problem (MOCOP) through scalarization method. A new penalty function is added to the objective function, which enables our algorithm to overcome the inconsistency between the optimal solution of the original problem and the corresponding continuous problem, so that our algorithm can perform well on various problems. Several numerical simulations are used to illustrate the effectiveness of our algorithm in solving COPs. The smooth execution of tasks in the cloud manufacturing (CMfg) process can be significantly affected by various real-world uncertainties, resulting in inefficiencies or even failures of the composite manufacturing service (CMS). Nevertheless, current research primarily concentrates on post-exception emergency handling methods, heavily dependent on the planned CMS and real-time status of manufacturing resources, often leading to suboptimal temporary adjustments or even the inability to find a viable solution. Hence, there is an urgent necessity to enhance the robustness of the planned CMS during the service composition and optimal selection (SCOS) phase. In pursuit of this goal, the paper initially presents an adaptive robust service composition and optimization selection (ARSCOS) model. This model dynamically determines whether to await exception resolution or invoke an alternative service, considering the circumstances when a service exception arises and employing task delay time to characterize the robustness of a specific CMS. Subsequently, an enhanced multi-objective artificial hummingbird algorithm (EMOAHA) is devised for this model. Finally, the efficacy of EMOAHA is demonstrated by applying it to nine different scales of civilian unmanned aerial vehicle manufacturing SCOS problems and 17 benchmark functions. In this paper, a novel population robustness-based switching response framework (PR-SRF) is proposed to develop effective dynamic multi-objective optimization algorithm (DMOA), which integrates different response strategies to comprehensively cope with the dynamic behaviors. In particular, the population robustness is described by the quantification of how severely the environmental changes affect current population, which is timely graded as three levels of weak, strong, and normal to enable the adaptive switch of three different responses of diversity-enhancement, diversity-maintenance, and the knowledge-transfer, respectively. In this way, associations between the adopted responses and the changing environments are successfully established, thereby facilitating more intelligent decision when handling the dynamic behaviors. According to the benchmark evaluation results, the proposed PR-SRF-DMOA yields better comprehensive performance than several other DMOAs with popular response strategies, and it also outperforms another three DMOAs with hybrid responses, which demonstrates the great competitiveness of our algorithm. In addition, ablation study proves that the proposed PR-SRF can sufficiently exploit the merits of different responses, which effectively alleviates the negative knowledge transfer in extremely fluctuating environments, thereby providing valuable references for the development of evolutionary transfer optimization (ETO) algorithms. Today, image segmentation methods are widely used for various applications, including object detection. Multilevel Thresholding Image Segmentation (MTIS) methods are among the efficient methods for image segmentation. In MTIS methods, it is very important to find the thresholds that gives the best performance for the MTIS and better separate and detect the objects on the image from the image background. Meta-Heuristic (MH) algorithms are among the strategies that can achieve good results in obtaining optimal thresholds to solve this problem. In this paper, we use the combination of Arithmetic Optimization Algorithm (AOA) and Harris Hawks Optimizer (HHO) to improve AOA in exploitation phase, and achieve an optimal threshold vector for MTIS. Therefore, our new hybrid AOA-HHO algorithm solves the MTIS problem with better quality than both AOA and HHO algorithms and some other MH algorithms, and can obtain better thresholds that increase the performance of the MTIS system than AOA and HHO. AOA is powerful in the exploration, and HHO in exploitation phase is powerful. Therefore, AOA-HHO uses the features of both algorithms to search the entire search space locally and globally to find the best find the solution, the high power of the AOA exploration phase, and the high power of the HHO exploitation phase. Also, we use a mathematical equation as the fitness function, that is obtained by using image features. A series of experiments were performed using seven different threshold levels on the test images. Experiments show that AOA-HHO method is better than the compared algorithms and even HHO and AOA in terms of image segmentation accuracy, fitness function value, Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), Structural Similarity Index Measure (SSIM), and execution time. Artificial rabbits optimization (ARO) is a swarm intelligence-based algorithm inspired by the survival strategies of rabbits. Although ARO has a good convergence rate, it is prone to get stuck in the local optima and converge prematurely. To overcome this, the present paper redesigns the exploration operator of the ARO algorithm with the roulette fitness-distance balance (RFDB) and dynamic fitness-distance balance (d FDB) strategies. In this context, three different versions of the fitness-distance balance-based artificial rabbits optimization (FDBARO) algorithm are developed. The performance of the original ARO and FDBARO versions (FDBARO-1, FDBARO-2, and FDBARO-3) are evaluated on CEC 2017 and CEC 2020 benchmark functions. The obtained results are analyzed with the Wilcoxon and Friedman statistical tests. Statistical and convergence analysis results showed that the FDBARO-3 algorithm designed with the d FDB selection method can explore the search space more successfully compared to other algorithms. This version was named the dynamic FDBARO (d FDBARO) algorithm. Moreover, the practicability of the proposed d FDBARO is highlighted by the solution of the optimal power flow (OPF) problem formulated with renewable energy sources (RESs) and flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) devices considering fixed and uncertain load demands. Stochastic optimization (SO) algorithms based on the Powerball function, namely powered stochastic optimization (PoweredSO) algorithms, have been confirmed, effectively, and demonstrated great potential in the context of large-scale optimization and machine learning tasks. Nevertheless, the issue of how to determine the learning rate for PoweredSO is a challenge and still unsolved problem. In this paper, we propose a class of adaptive PoweredSO approaches that are efficient, scalable and robust. It takes advantage of the hypergradient descent (HD) technique to automatically acquire an online learning rate for PoweredSO-like methods. In the first part, we study the behavior of the canonical PoweredSO algorithm, the Powerball stochastic gradient descent (pbSGD) method, with HD. The existing PoweredSO algorithms also suffer from the high variance because they take the similar algorithmic framework to SO algorithms, arising from sampling tactics. Therefore, the second portion develops an adaptive powered variance-reduced optimization method via utilizing both variance-reduced technique and HD. Moreover, we present the convergence analysis of the proposed algorithms and explore their iteration complexity on non-convex cases. Many real-world problems can be abstracted as multimodal global optimization, which is one of the main challenges for optimization algorithms due to its complexity. The fireworks algorithm (FWA) is a swarm intelligence optimization algorithm that has been widely studied and applied by virtue of the synergistic property among fireworks. Current FWA variants have poor exploitation capability to handle some locally complex multimodal functions, which greatly limits the application of the FWA to practical problems. To solve the above problems, in this paper, we propose the multi-guiding spark fireworks algorithm (MGFWA) to solve multimodal functions by enhancing FWA exploitation capabilities. Three different strategies which are boosted guiding vector, multi-guiding sparks, and population-based random mapping are designed to boost the guiding vector, enrich the guiding spark diversity, and fix the mapping function, separately. The validity and parameter setting of MGFWA are theoretically analyzed. Experimentally, the results on the CEC2013 and CEC2017 single objective optimization benchmarks illustrate the remarkable performance of the MGFWA compared to other typical optimization algorithms and FWA variants. Moreover, the ablation study shows each of the three parts plays an important role in the algorithm and the efficiency experiment shows the MGFWA can improve the efficiency of guiding sparks by 10%. In this paper, a trust region optimization algorithm integrated with a co-kriging surrogate-model is newly formulated to optimize compact ultrathin wideband metamaterial absorbers with high absorption. The reported algorithm is linked with the full vectorial finite element method to simulate and optimize the studied absorbers. In order to show the power of the suggested algorithm, the geometrical parameters of a previous metamaterial absorber (MA) with L-shaped resonators are optimized to achieve high absorption (over 90 %) over a frequency band from 13.8 GHz to 24.5 GHz covering most of KU and K bands. Then, a novel design of L-shaped MA with triangular resonators is optimized, analyzed and fabricated with high absorption (above 90 %) through a large frequency band from 11.9 GHz to 22 GHz covering the entire KU-band and most of the K-band. The reported design is also robust against the variations of the incident angle (above 80 % up to 50 °) for both transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) polarized modes. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Chinese hospitals are increasing their efforts to control the number of patients to decrease cross-infection risks. In this paper, we investigate the flexible physician scheduling problem for emergency departments (EDs), considering the constraint of the maximum number of emergency patients in one time period. We model the ED service system as a time-varying queue with returns and formulate the physician scheduling problem as a mixed-integer programming model. To solve the scheduling problem effectively, we design a learning-based two-stage optimization algorithm. In the first stage, we solve the physician staffing problem, in which two effective acceleration strategies based on machine learning models are developed. In the second stage, we propose a branch-and-price algorithm to determine the physician scheduling plan. Numerical experiments based on real-life data show that the proposed two-stage algorithm can effectively solve our flexible physician scheduling problem, and the scheduling plan obtained by the proposed two-stage algorithm can significantly improve the physician schedule without involving more physicians. In this study, a novel meta-heuristic search (MHS) algorithm for constrained global optimization problems is proposed. Since many algorithms aim to achieve well-balanced exploitation–exploration stages with often unsatisfactory results, in the approach introduced in this paper, Attraction–Repulsion Optimization Algorithm (AROA), the balance associated with attraction–repulsion phenomena that occur in nature is mimicked. AROA introduces a search strategy in which a candidate solution is moved in the search space depending on the quality of solutions in its neighborhood, as well as the best candidate. The candidates are managed by local search operators based on modified Brownian motion, trigonometric functions, randomly selected solutions, and a form of memory. Consequently, AROA exhibits a satisfactory exploitation–exploration balance exhibited by highly competitive performance. The introduced algorithm is experimentally compared with the state-of-the-art meta-heuristics on the CEC 2014, 2017, and 2020 test suites. Decomposition-based multiobjective evolutionary algorithms are widely utilized for solving multiobjective optimization problems (MOPs). These algorithms have a higher degree of diversity due to a uniform distribution of the reference vectors in the objective space. However, these algorithms may struggle to select a suitable candidate set for solving many-objective optimization problems (MaOPs) with irregular Pareto fronts (PFs). To solve this problem, a solution potential-based adaptation reference vector evolutionary algorithm (SPARVEA) is proposed in this paper. In the algorithm, a concept called solution potential is presented to assess whether the direction of convergence of the solution to the ideal solution has potential. The solution potential is obtained with an evaluation function to calculate the potentials of the corresponding solutions. A solution potential-based adaptation strategy is then designed for adapting the reference vector to better guide the direction of convergence of the solution when solving MaOPs with irregular PFs. A modified angle penalty distance (mAPD) is adjusted to improve the convergence rate of the solution set in many-objective optimization problems. The proposed algorithm SPARVEA is compared with state-of-the-art many-objective evolutionary algorithms on four test sets with irregular PFs and four practical problems. Experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of SPARVEA on many-objective optimization problems. The collaborative optimization dispatching of multiple energy flows plays a crucial role in achieving the economic and efficient low-carbon operation of integrated energy systems (IESs). However, the dispatching problem for IESs is characterized by high dimensionality, non-linearity, and complex coupling. Furthermore, the integration of renewable energy sources and flexible loads has transformed the IES into a complex dynamic system with significant uncertainty. Traditional intelligent optimization algorithms exhibit poor adaptability and lengthy solution computation time when tackling such problems. In contrast, deep reinforcement learning (DRL), as an interactive trial-and-error learning method, has shown improved decision-making capabilities. In view of this, a data-driven soft actor-critic (SAC) deep reinforcement learning-based approach is proposed in this paper for interval optimal dispatch of IESs considering multiple uncertainties. First, the basic principle of SAC reinforcement learning is introduced in detail, and the basic framework of reinforcement learning for interval optimal scheduling of IESs is constructed. Then, the environment model of agent interaction is constructed, and the action and state space of DRL, as well as the reward mechanism and neural network structure, are designed. Finally, a typical IES case is experimentally analyzed and compared with three popular DRL algorithms and five state-of-the-art intelligent optimization algorithms. Moving sensor nodes can mitigate the coverage problem of random deployment in wireless sensor networks. However, the movement of nodes affects the lifetime and integrity of the network. Therefore, both energy saving and efficient coverage are crucial factors. In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient coverage optimization technique with the help of the multi-Strategy grey wolf optimization (MSGWO) algorithm. This method can reduce energy consumption and improve coverage area by mixing higher-order multinomial sensing models and a sort-driven hybrid opposition-based learning. In addition, node movement and boundary strategies are proposed to help nodes jump out of obstacles when facing obstacle-aware deployments. The MSGWO is validated and compared on several classical test functions, and the results show that the MSGWO performs well. The MSGWO algorithm is applied to optimize the WSN coverage on different obstacle scenarios, the experimental results show that the algorithm helps to increase the network coverage from 84 % to 97.86 %, extends the network lifecycle by 50 %, reduces the cost of node deployment, and the network has good connectivity and scalability.
