Aims: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the preparedness of Iranian nurses for potential pandemics. Background: Nurses play a critical role in managing pandemics. They require adequate training, proper equipment, and organizational support to be well-prepared. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in Ardabil, Iran, from July to September 2023, involving 233 nurses from five hospitals. The number of nurses required for each hospital was calculated based on the proportion of nurses in each hospital. Data was collected through a paper-based form that included information about the participants' demographic characteristics and their level of pandemic preparedness in health services. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics to determine the demographic characteristics and levels of pandemic preparedness. Pearson's test was also conducted to establish a relationship between different dimensions of pandemic preparedness. Results: Most participants relied on clinical measures and supported using human resources and environmental methods to curb the transmission of a pandemic. They felt assured in their ability to explain the preventive measures against the pandemic. However, fewer respondents had access to healthcare improvement programs, and only a few worked remotely from home. Conclusions: According to our study, 90.1% of nurses believe hand washing is the most effective way to prevent spreading infections. Additionally, healthcare professionals can use various tools to respond to the pandemic, including screening for COVID-19 at work, health and wellness programs, telecommuting, COVID-19 Safe programs, social media, and posters. Nurses need continuous education in hand hygiene, health programs, remote work options, and pandemic-safe programs to control infections, reduce risks, and optimize patient care during the pandemic. Background: Dengue fever (DF) is one of the most prevalent arboviral infections worldwide. In Iran, the dengue-positive serological cases as well as the presence of the dengue vector Aedes aegypti have raised health concerns, highlighting the need to enhance the dengue surveillance system. This study aims to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of healthcare professionals (HCPs) regarding dengue fever in a large and high-risk region of southeastern Iran. Methods: A total of 492 HCPs were recruited using a multi-stage sampling method from May 2022 to July 2023. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. Data analysis was done using independent t-tests, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), one-factor and multi-factor general linear models, and simple and multiple regression models. Results: About two-thirds (71%) of the participants did not receive any training on DF. A small percentage of participants were familiar with ovitrap (32.6%) and only 21.7% knew that destroying larval breeding sites could not eliminate the dengue vector. The knowledge of disease symptoms among HCPs was found to be lower in border areas compared to non-border areas (P = 0.018). However, the practice situation in HCPs working in border areas was better than in non-borders (P = 0.003). According to the multiple regression model, the most influential factors associated with knowledge, attitude, and practice were the type of healthcare facility and passing the DF training course. Additionally, education level, work experience, and gender were identified as other factors associated with it, respectively. Significant correlations were found between knowledge and practice (P < 0.001), indicating that higher knowledge led to better practice. Similarly, a positive attitude was significantly linked to better practice (P < 0.001). Conclusion: Regular, targeted, and continuous training courses are necessary to improve the knowledge level of HCPs, particularly those with lower education levels working in low-level health centers. Utilizing comprehensive dengue KAP studies to evaluate the status and impact of health education programs and identify gaps between knowledge and practice should be a research priority. Background: The prevalence of cancer is increasing, which significantly impacts the health and various aspects of the lives of cancer-post-treated adolescents. Adolescents with cancer have many negative consequences, including increased vulnerability. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the perceived vulnerability of cancer-post-treated adolescents using a deep examination of experiences and perceptions of participants. Methods: This study was conducted on 18 participants, who were selected based on purposive sampling in 2023 using a qualitative method through a content analysis approach in Iran. A face-to-face and semi-structured individual interview was used to collect data. Inclusion criteria were children aged 11–19 years, with no history of diseases except cancer, at least one year passed since their last treatment and were aware of their disease. Inclusion criteria for other participants were Parents of childhood cancer survivors whose child is under 19 years old. Health care providers that had at least one year of experience working with and caring for pediatric cancer survivors. The research objective, participation principle, and interview recording were explained to the participants before the interview started. The criteria of credibility, dependability, confirmability and transferability were included to support the trustworthiness of data. The data was analyzed using the conventional qualitative content analysis method and MAXQDA10 software was used for data management. Results: The participants included 12 cancer-post-treated adolescents, two parents, two nurses, one doctor, and one cancer charity representative. The data analysis identified three categories: "Confusion in early adolescence", "Psychological turmoil of disease", and "Physical burden of the disease". Finally, the latent content was formulated in to a "Perceived vulnerability" overarching theme. Conclusion: Identifying the patient's perceptions and beliefs is one of the current health problems to improve the quality of life and facilitate the optimal transition from adolescence to adulthood and adult care. Health professionals have an opportunity to address factors that increase survivors' sense of vulnerability to health problems by correcting knowledge gaps. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The labor supply of nurses, as one of the main healthcare workers, is an important issue in health human resources planning in all health systems. Finding the factors affecting it, could help policymakers to solve the shortage of nursing work supply. The present study aimed to investigating the quantity and factors affecting the nurses' labor supply in Iran. Method: In this cross-sectional study, a sample of 598 nurses working in public hospitals of Shiraz (Iran) were selected via proportionate stratified random sampling method. The required data was collected using a structured questionnaire which asked working hours and other related factors. To analyze the data, descriptive statistics, univariate analysis and multivariate linear regression were performed using STATA 15. The multivariate labor supply model was estimated separately for married and single nurses. Results: The average weekly working hours of nurses was 54.65 h in all medical centers and 50.28 h in the main hospital. The regression results showed that the labor supply of nurses with work experience (β = − 0.368, P = 0.014), satisfaction with work shift arrangement (β = − 2.473, P = 0.001), income between 60-89 million rial (β = − 14.046, P = 0.002), income between 90-119 million rial(β = − 12.073, P = 0.012), and working in the emergency department (β = − 5.043, P = 0.017) had negative and significant relationship; But there was a positive and significant relationship with satisfaction of the work environment (β = 1.86, P = 0.011), workload at work (β = 1.951, P = 0.023) and employment status (contractual employees) (β = 4.704, P = 0.004). Conclusion: The labor supply function of nurses is affected by demographic, economic and non-economic factors. The most contributing factors were related to non-economic variables. It seems that the non-financial cost and benefits related to the job as well as internal factors have more important role on the nurses' labor supply. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Healthcare providers, particularly nurses, play a critical role in mitigating the impact of disasters on victims and the healthcare system. However, nurses face unique challenges in disasters that may not experience in their daily practice, which can make it harder for them to deal with disasters efficiently. This study aimed to investigate the challenges faced by nurses for disaster response. Methods: A qualitative content analysis approach was used in this study. Purposeful sampling was used to select 24 nurses working in the emergency departments of hospitals in Kerman, southeastern Iran. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using MAXQDA10. The conventional content analysis method proposed by Graneheim and Lundman was used to analyze the data. Results: The analysis of the findings resulted in one major category, insufficient ability of nurses to respond to disasters, and five subcategories: diverse nursing conditions during disasters, inappropriate interactive platform during disasters, the presence of obstacles to teamwork, lack of platform for nurses to acquire adequate disaster risk management competence, and moral tension in complex disaster situations. Conclusions: Determining the challenges that nurses face during disasters is essential for improving disaster response efforts, promoting disaster preparedness, ensuring appropriate care for patients, and reducing emotional fatigue among nurses. Finally, nursing leaders, healthcare policymakers and governments should use these findings to better support the nursing workforce in disasters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
