This paper reports the success of the Davis-Leinhardt graph theoretical model in predicting structural trends in a data bank of 742 sociograms from diverse small groups. The model has an over-all success rate of 70%, but two key predictions are not supported. An alternative model is then tested. Its prediction that the sums of pair relations tend toward cluster-ability is supported in 77% of the tests, and its prediction that differences of pair relations tend toward a transitive tournament is supported in 90% of the tests. The article presents a comparison of interaction patterns of North American and Colombian face-to-face groups. For the present study, groups in Colombia were obtained from a subdivision of 54 lower grade school teachers from the state El Valle, Colombia. Forty-two subjects were males. Groups were assembled on the basis of chance, in order to avoid the presence of informal cliques. Observations were made after participants had attended a minimum of six discussions in plenary session and six in smaller group sessions. The supervisor, a secondary school director hardly known by the subjects, was the same in all six groups. In three groups the supervisor gave close supervision; in the other three he participated only in the discussion and had no explicit leader task. Discussions lasted one hour. Observations were made and immediately scored by the author, since other observers and recording apparatus were not available at the time. Reliability, therefore, could not be ascertained. The discussion theme centered about interpersonal relations within the group, in work, and in life situations.

Terminology was cited as a key issue, as "underdeveloped" has been replaced by "developing," and "aid," the author suggests is inappropriate as it implies a one-sided receptive engagement rather than an active relationship of solidarity.

The article focuses on an article "The Possibility of Predicting Reactions to International Events," by Arthur I. Gladstone that was published in the "Journal of Social Issues." A rough scheme for conceptualizing interaction between nations is presented, in order to suggest what factors need to be studied to understand how the relations between two nations develop toward or away from a state of war. A study bearing on one factor in this scheme--attitudes--is then reported. It was found that attitudes on certain general issues in international relations tend to be positively correlated with attitudes on corresponding issues in interpersonal relations.
