The article focuses on the efforts of physicists to investigate superconductivity and discover materials that possess such property. Efforts to build the superconducting electromagnet started with Heike Kamerlingh Onnes, who discovered superconductivity in 1911. In 1954, B. T. Matthias, T. H. Geballe, Seymour Geller, and Ernest Corenzwit examined the synthesis of niobium-tin, the compound with the highest known temperature of transition from ordinary conductivity to superconductivity.
