Abstract

The suitability of various plastics for use as model materials in the photoelastic method of stress analysis is briefly reviewed. The photoelastic properties of a series of optically sensitive plastics are examined. It is shown that the wide range of properties possessed by these materials makes them suitable for the photoelastic solution of various problems.

Abstract

1. A study has been made of the process of two-stage hydrocracking of a heavy distillate raw material, obtaining oils and fuel products. 2. It has been shown that by two-stage hydrocracking of a heavy vacuum distillate it is possible to obtain 60% of oil products (including 38% of high-specification oil) and 40% fuel products (including about 30% winter diesel fuel).

Abstract

The effect of network density and the concentration of the crosslinking agent (ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) on the elastic and photoelastic properties of crosslinked styrene, chlorostyrene, and vinyltoluene polymers is investigated. It is shown that the networks of these polymers are not ideal. Gaussian and non-Gaussian network theories do not give a quantitative description of the piezo-optic properties of the actual copolymers synthesized.

Abstract

It is shown that high-grade oils can be obtained from a paraffinaceous petroleum feedstock by hydrocracking at a pressure of 50 atm, which facilitates plant operation and cuts the cost of the process.

1. Of the four types of nonmetallic inclusions, the plastic (unsaturated) silicates lead to the lowest impact resistance and the silicon oxides to the highest. 2. The type of nonmetallic inclusions has a greater effect on the resistance of transverse samples — at room temperature for medium stresses and at negative temperature for low stresses.

Abstract

The photoelastic properties of chlorostyrene-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate copolymers have been investigated. Thanks to the high segmental polarizability anisotropy of chlorostyrene and the possibility of regulating the crosslink density in the crosslinked polymer, these materials possess high optical sensitivity combined with a broad range of moduli of elasticity at the "freezing" temperature.
