Monomeric horse cytochrome C is a weak erratic immunogen in rabbits which can be converted to a consistent immunogen by light dinitrophenylation. Antibody responses to the dinitrophenyl group are more vigorous than to the cytochrome C but the responses are parallel, the strongest responses to both the carrier and the hapten occurring in the same animals.

A two-level fractional factorial design of experiment is introduced to investigate the effects of several variables on four responses with 16 tests for punching operation. The analysis indicates that the taper on punch bottom is not only the most significant factor affecting punch force but also interacts with another factor, the radius on die mouth. The die radius was found to be the dominating factor affecting the other three responses, i.e., the burr height, the amount of dishing, and the fracture angle. The increase of die radius will reduce burr height but increase dishing and fracture angle.

This paper presents simulation techniques to further study the tool temperature distribution curve previously reported. The simulation setup employed a miniature oxyacetylene torch incorporated with a pulse control mechanism. The experimental simulation yielded similar temperature distribution curves to those obtained in the cutting experiments. The temperature distribution curve obtained by digital computer simulation shows a good agreement with that obtained in the cutting experiments. An analysis of the effect of the removed material near the tool tip was made using the numerical method. The result indicates that the material removed up to a tool tip thickness of 0.085 in., which was used in the previous paper, does not show significant effect on the temperature responses.

1. The development, localization and heterogeneity of acid phosphatase and a Zn2+-activated acid phosphatase in cellular fractions of developing chick liver were studied. 2. Acid phosphatase is distributed abundantly in the particulate and soluble fractions. The soluble fraction is rich in Zn2+-activated acid phosphatase, which attains its peak activity at about 15 days of incubation. 3. The particulate acid phosphatase activity is inhibited by fluoride but not by sodium l(+)-tartrate or cysteine. On the other hand, the soluble Zn2+-activated acid phosphatase activity is inhibited by sodium l(+)-tartrate and cysteine but not by fluoride. 4. The pH optimum of these two enzymes is similar at about 5·6. 5. The soluble Zn2+-activated acid phosphatase activity appears to be thermally stabilized by the treatment with Triton X-100 or bovine serum albumin.
