Abstract

An essay is presented on the skin disease called pemphigus. The author notes that the use of the terms para-pemphigus and pemphigoid should be ceased, and says that the description made by various sponsors of pemphigoid do not provide common traits and characteristics to validate cases. The author provides that three varieties of pemphigoid, such as foliaceus, vegetans, and vulgaris. The author adds that the said disease is not curable and the use of steroids is frequently life saving.

Abstract

The article presents different cases of skin diseases. It informs that two identical twins and presented with an almost identical eruption which appeared five months ago, first in one child, the other being affected 2 days afterwards. The rash first affected the lower abdomen and later the lower part of the legs and dorsal aspect of both feet. The lesions consisted of well-defined small papules which at their onset were slightly irritable. They were treated by their family doctor for scabies, without any benefit. In another case a man aged 31 presented in July 1966 with a one year history of swelling and stiffness of his hands and increasing pigmentation of his back, associated with itching.

The article presents the two major assumptions that lie behind the policies adopted by both America and Russia in the nuclear arms race. These assumptions are that a particular political and economic system is so superior to, and so radically different from, another, that the most stupendous sacrifices are justified in its defense and that the survival of a particular way of life is more important than is the survival of the human race. It is emphasized that it is only by generating on both sides feelings of fanaticism, which outweigh all thought for the future, that political leaders have been endowed with such incredible powers.
